Earlier this year, Tina gave a stirring call to action for artists during her powerful speech at the 2023 Shure Rolling Stone Australia Awards .

In front of a crowd of hundreds of artists, media, and industry professionals, Tina Arena was honoured with the first-ever Rolling Stone Icon Award.

“We’re not here to relay political messaging, but to inspire political messages. We’re here to point fingers at what’s not right, and inspire people to do something about it. Never give in, never surrender. We’re here to break rules, not obey them, break balls, and take names,” Tina said in her powerful speech at the ceremony.

“SIMPLY THE BEST” – Daily Telegraph

“An absolute joy” – The Australian

“A rock music spectacular” – Limelight

★★★★★ “Breathtakingly exciting” – ArtsHub

“A tour de force” – Australian Financial Review

"It's really important to me to have the chance to share my full story. This musical is not about my stardom. It is about the journey I took to get there. Each night I want audiences to take away from the theatre that you can turn poison into medicine." - Tina Turner

What to Watch For

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race.

One of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Tina Turner has won 12 Grammy Awards and her live shows have been seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history.

TINA - The Tina Turner Musical first premiered in London at the Aldwych Theatre in April 2018 and opened on Broadway in November 2019. The Australian premiere opened in May 2023 at the iconic Theatre Royal Sydney.

The Queen of Rock n’ Roll provided her stamp of approval. That is to say, Turner was on hand for the musical’s creative evolution and gave the go-ahead for each character’s depiction and even their moves. In fact, Turner herself taught her original onstage counterpart, Adrienne Warren , how to do her signature move, the Pony.

While it would be nearly impossible to include the entire Tina Turner songbook into a single musical (that would be one long show), don’t expect any skimping. There are a massive 21 songs in TINA - The Tina Turner Musical — and yes, they’re the ones you want to hear and maybe even a few you weren’t expecting. Just like Turner herself, this musical is full of surprises.

Did you know that Tina Turner is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for selling more concert tickets than any solo performer in history? She has sold more than 200 million albums and singles worldwide to date, which makes her one of the biggest selling female artists in music history.

The American-born singer and actress chose to give up her American citizenship in 2013 after becoming a citizen of Switzerland.

Audiences should know that they’re in the most-competent jukebox hands with English talented director and producer Phyllida Lloyd , best known for directing one of the most universally beloved jukebox shows of all time, Mamma Mia! and film The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep .

TINA - The Tina Turner Musical marks the first foray into libretto for award-winning book writer Katori Hall who made history as the first Black woman to win the Olivier Award for Best New Play in 2010 for The Mountaintop.

Arts & entertainment, design & style, travel & leisure, search concrete playground, 'tina — the tina turner musical' is touring its simply-the-best stage tribute around australia.

When the onstage ode's Australian-premiere season at Theatre Royal Sydney wraps up, it's taking its show — 'Nutbush City Limits' included — on the road.

'Tina — The Tina Turner Musical' Is Touring Its Simply-the-Best Stage Tribute Around Australia

They call it Tina — The Tina Turner Musical , oh Tina — The Tina Turner Musical — and, while it finally arrived in Australia in May , it now has more dates around the nation. After premiering in London back in 2018, this stage ode to the music icon that's had Aussies dancing to 'Nutbush City Limits' for decades will tour Down Under, following up its current first local stint in Sydney with seasons in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne.

No, it isn't taking to the stage in a church house, gin house, school house or outhouse — or on highway number 19, either. But Tina — The Tina Turner Musical will obviously have Crown Theatre, Festival Theatre, Queensland Performing Arts Centre and Princess Theatre enjoying Turner's greatest hits in one massive show. The list of musical numbers includes 'Nutbush City Limits', naturally, as well as everything from 'River Deep, Mountain High' and 'Proud Mary' through to 'Private Dancer' and 'What's Love Got to Do with It?'.

Tina — The Tina Turner Musical has made its trip Down Under courtesy of TEG DAINTY, Stage Entertainment and Tali Pelman, in association with Tina Turner herself before her passing in May this year. Announcing the show's stint on our shores back in 2022, the singer said that "Australia has always shared abundant love with me, going back to my early concerts in the late 70s through the uplifting partnership with the National Rugby League. It is very special for me that we will be reunited."

"The joy, passion and message of resilience in my musical is so important now as ever. Thank you from the bottom my heart for welcoming me with open arms once again," Turner continued.

The singer didn't mention her appearance in Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome , but she is indeed part of the beloved Mad Max franchise , too.

In Australia, The Lion King , We Will Rock You , Beautiful: The Carole King Musical , Ragtime and Moulin Rouge! The Musical star Ruva Ngwenya plays Tina, with In the Heights , Fame: The Musical and fellow Moulin Rouge! The Musical alumni Tim Omaji as Ike Turner.

Penned by Tony Award-nominee and Pulitzer Prize-winner Katori Hall, plus Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, and directed by fellow Tony-nominee Phyllida Lloyd, Tina — The Tina Turner Musical  clearly has quite the story to tell. The show steps through Turner's life and fame, including growing up in Nutbush, Tennessee, the hard work that led to her career, all of those aforementioned hits, her 12 Grammy Awards, her volatile time with Ike and her huge solo success. If you're a fan, Turner herself summed it up — yes, it's simply the best.

"I first heard about the possibility of a stage musical portraying Tina's life eight years ago and I immediately reached out to Tali Pelman at Stage Entertainment. At that point there was no script and no book; however, I was hooked on the idea of it," said TEG DAINTY CEO Paul Dainty about Tina — The Tina Turner Musical.

"We have been on that journey ever since, and here we are today announcing the Australian tour! Australians love this theatrical masterpiece which tells the story of Tina's life, of empowerment and success, and is ultimately the best music industry comeback story of all time."

Tina Arena Announces 2023 Australian ‘Love Saves’ Tour Dates

By Jules LeFevre

Australian music stalwart Tina Arena has announced a string of tour dates in support of her upcoming album Love Saves, which will hit shelves on Friday, 14th July. Suitably, the tour is billed as the ‘Love Saves World’ tour, and will begin with a show as part of the Night At The Barracks series in Sydney on Saturday, 7th October.

The singer will then follow it up with shows in Perth, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, and finally in Adelaide on Saturday, 21st October. See the full rundown of dates and ticketing details below.

Tina Arena: ‘House’

Love Saves will be Arena’s first new album of original songs in eight years, and will be her seventh wholly English-language album in her career. We’ve heard a couple of tracks from the record already: ‘House’, which received an official video just yesterday, and also ‘Dancing On Thin Ice’ – which was actually released in French as a teaser for the English version.

Arena, who’s equally as popular in her adopted home of France, has released three French-language albums across her career, the last being in 2018 with Quand tout Recommence .

“Like many of us, I retreated inwards during the pandemic. I found solace in music,” Arena shared in a press release. “I processed my feelings the only way I know how – through my art. From rock bottom, I ran the gauntlet of human emotion. I faced my own demons, emerging the other side transformed, triumphant, renewed and at peace. Remember, be brave, be vulnerable and love saves.”

Tickets On Sale Now for Brisbane Season of ‘Tina – The Tina Turner Musical’

' src=

The electrifying musical sensation, ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’, will roll into Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in July, with tickets on sale from today.

The Australian premiere season of the smash hit musical has been setting Theatre Royal Sydney ablaze with its explosive performances, receiving standing ovations and rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. QPAC is part of a recently announced national tour, with seasons also scheduled in Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne in 2024.

Produced by Paul Dainty AO/TEG DAINTY in special collaboration with Stage Entertainment, Tali Pelman and the late Tina Turner, the musical reveals a comeback story like no other, of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race to become the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ is a celebration of resilience and an inspiration of triumph over adversity.

Since its highly anticipated premiere at Theatre Royal Sydney, ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ has captured the hearts of audiences with its powerful storytelling, incredible performances, and iconic music. Featuring 23 hit songs including, ‘Simply The Best’, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, ‘Nutbush City Limits’ and ‘Proud Mary’, this smash hit musical has received 37 prestigious award nominations including BEST MUSICAL (Tony Awards) and BEST NEW MUSICAL (Olivier Awards).

Paul Dainty AO, President, and CEO of TEG DAINTY spoke about the musical and its appeal.

“I first heard about the possibility of a stage musical portraying Tina’s life 8 years ago and I immediately reached out to Tali Pelman at Stage Entertainment,” said Dainty.

“At that point, there was no script and no book however I was hooked on the idea of it.  We have been on that journey ever since, and we are thrilled to be taking TINA on an Australian tour! Australians love this theatrical masterpiece which tells the story of Tina’s life, of empowerment and success, and is ultimately the best music industry comeback story of all time.”

Producer, Tali Pelman also echoed similar sentiments.

“I know Australia was very close to Tina’s heart, so we are especially excited our show will be touring,” said Pelman.

“Our musical is about how Tina became not only the music icon we adored but the woman who continues to motivate and inspire us today. Everything about Tina was unique – her heart, her story and of course her voice – and we can’t wait for all of Australia to experience her journey and her triumph through our show.”

Rugby League fans can get a sneak peek of the incredible show before it rolls into Brisbane, as ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ will headline the entertainment at this year’s NRL Telstra Premiership Grand Final, at Sydney’s Accor Stadium on Sunday 1 October. Marking 30 years since Tina Turner’s iconic performance at the 1993 Grand Final and celebrating her unique association with the game, the cast of the smash hit musical is bringing Turner’s music back to Rugby League’s biggest stage. Coincidently the Broncos also played in (and won) the 1993 Grand Final.

Tina The Tina Turner Musical 2

In Australia, the coveted role of Tina Turner is played by Ruva Ngwenya who has been gracing our stages since her early years with her first professional role in 2013 as Shenzi in ‘The Lion King’.  Ruva has performed in a string of successful musicals; ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’, ‘Ragtime’ and ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’, solidifying her as one of musical theatre’s most sought-after performers.

The role of Ike Turner is played by Australian triple threat and multi-platinum-selling performer, Tim Omaji. Tim’s theatre credits include Toulouse-Lautrec, in the original Australian cast of ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’, the standout role of Benny in the critically acclaimed and sold-out season of the Hayes Theatre Company’s production of ‘In The Heights’ and the lead role of Tyrone Jackson in ‘Fame The Musical’.

The ‘TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ cast also includes principals Jochebel Ohene MacCarthy as Tina Turner alternate, Ibinabo Jack playing Tina’s mother Zelma Bullock, Deni Gordon as Tina’s Grandmother Gran Georgeanna (GG) and Nadia Komazec as Ike and Tina’s manager Rhonda Graam. Jayme-Lee Hanekom plays Tina’s sister Alline Bullock and one of the Ikettes, Augie Tchantcho plays Tina’s father Richard Bullock, Rishab Kern as Tina’s first love Raymond Hill, Matthew Prime as record company Marketing Manager Erwin Bach, Mat Verevis as Tina’s Manager Roger Davies, John O’Hara as Record Producer Phil Spector and Lyricist Terry Britten and Blake Erickson as musician Martyn Ware and Carpenter. Ensemble members include Mia Dabkowski-Chandler, Nicholas Eaton, Abu Kebe as Ronnie, Jenni Little as Toni, David Mairs-McKenzie as Craig, Emily Nkomo as an Ikette, Gus Noakes, Kristin Paulse, Ilana Richardson, Tendai Rinomhota, Noel Samuels, Ina Seidou, Rebecca Selley as an Ikette and Tigist Strode as an Ikette.

Written by Tony Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Katori Hall with Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins,’ TINA – The Tina Turner Musical’ is directed by Tony Award nominee Phyllida Lloyd with choreography by Tony Award nominee Anthony van Laast, set and costume designs by Tony Award nominee Mark Thompson, musical supervision, additional music and arrangements by Nicholas Skilbeck, lighting by Tony Award nominee Bruno Poet, sound by Tony Award nominee Nevin Steinberg, projection design by Tony Award nominee Jeff Sugg, orchestrations by Tony Award nominee Ethan Popp and wigs, hair and makeup design by Drama Desk Award winner Campbell Young Associates.

This new musical based on the life of legendary artist Tina Turner received its world premiere in April 2018 in London’s West End, where it opened to five-star reviews and continues to break box office records at the Aldwych Theatre. In March 2019, the German production opened at Stage Operettenhaus in Hamburg, the Broadway production followed in November 2019 and was nominated for 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical. The Dutch production opened at the Beatrix Theater, Utrecht, in February 2020. A third European production opened in Autumn 2021 at the Teatro Coliseum in Madrid, Spain and the North American Tour commenced in September 2022.  In 2023 alongside the Australian production, the European Production in Stuttgart, Germany opened.

One of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, Tina Turner won 12 Grammy Awards and her live shows were seen by millions, with more concert tickets sold than any other solo performer in music history.  When she was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in October, 2021, Tina Turner became one of only three women in the institution’s history to be inducted twice (she was initially inducted in 1991, alongside Ike Turner).

This electrifying smash-hit musical is not to be missed. Tickets to the QPAC season of TINA – The Tina Turner Musical are on sale now.

Visit QPAC’s website to learn more about the production and to purchase tickets.

Love is more than just an emotion. It is universal language that connects us all. The driving force of life. It cuts across all cultures and religions. Love transcends physical boundaries, borders both real and imaginary. Love is everything. It is the beginning and the end. It transforms. It’s true. I’m living proof.

Love Saves has become my new mantra and fittingly, the name of my 7th all English studio album – my first album of original material in almost 8 years.  Love Saves is more than a new chapter in my career, it marks the beginning of an entirely new book! It represents a re-birth, a renaissance of sorts, a musical journal of my life during the pandemic.

Like many of us, I retreated inwards. I found solace in music. I processed my feelings the only way I know how – through my art. From rock bottom, I ran the gauntlet of human emotion. I faced my own demons, emerging the other side transformed, triumphant, renewed and at peace.

I am grateful for the opportunity to share my musings with you – my loyal audience, fans old and new. If not for you, I couldn’t do what I do. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart! Love Saves is my most personal album to date. It is a window into my soul. It is raw. It is real. It is me. I do hope you enjoy the ride, for it’s been a heartbreakingly beautiful one.

Remember, be brave, be vulnerable and love saves!

Wow. Waited many years to see her. Early songs reminded me of a crazy time in my life. Some songs brought back memories of my life living in France. And her recent songs uplift me as my life right now is the best. She's an amazing singer, songwriter and has a stage presence of world star quality. This concert was amazing. When I got back to the hotel. I said to my boyfriend "I wanna go again now". Please come back soon. Tina your an amazing artist ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

What an absolutely brilliant performer this lady is! I'd waited 20 years to see her live and she didn't disappoint. Her voice is incredible and it was at full throttle throughout. It's the first time I've seen an audience up on their feet during a ballad! The UK needs to pay more attention to an incredible singer songwriter in Tina. Such a confident, versatile performer and a great attitude to life..

My highlight was when she spoke in French to her travelling fans. She said, "You don't need a translation do you? DON'T get your phones out and use Google translator or I'll be pissed off"

She hates phones and she's absolutely right. Go Tina!

Great show; my first time seeing Tina Arena in concert was very much enjoyed. Three costume changes, a great mix of old hits and enjoyable newer songs - Tina knows how to deliver. Personal stories between the songs provided just the right level of personality and charm to help re-connect with older songs or build an attachment to a newer song.

My only two negatives 1) she's swapped up the emotion of her hit song 'Chains' to make it more empowering - which is great in theory and I'm sure she's just adding interest to a song that she's been performing for many years - but it changed the songs impact for me and detracted from my enjoyment of her major 'hit'. 2) she didn't offer us any indication of why she's been so popular in France for the past 20 years. I expected and hoped for a small set (2-4 songs) of her French language songs to showcase what Australia has 'overlooked' due to language barriers. Tina's voice sounds as every bit as good now as it did in her early career. Thoroughly enjoyed the show and would gladly see her again.
