What to Do, See, Eat, and Shop For in Lisbon, Portugal

The #verytandc guide to making the most of the European hotspot.

A rooftop view of Lisbon

Head for the open parks and green space of Belem

Just west of Lisbon in Belem, you'll quickly get a good sense of the city's seafaring history. Walk along the boardwalk, visit Belem Tower, pass Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a monument to the 15th-century Portuguese explorers and look at the inevitable line—or join it—at Pastel del Belem , which some say makes the best custard tart, a national treasure in Portugal. Belem is a particularly good place to visit on a Sunday when many other attractions are closed. In Belem you'll find an open air flea market, selling a bit of everything. Look for handmade cork pouches, which can be used as a cosmetics case or a wallet, and make the perfect gift. Enjoy a glass of wine and bite to eat at Darwin's Cafe, a modern and airy eatery on the water that has an expansive terrace, vino that starts under five euros, and inventive dishes like Tagliatelline with scallops, smoked tofu, radicchio and basil pesto.

Spend an afternoon in Cascais

It's seaside town about half an hour from the city center, depending on traffic. Even in the off season, you'll be able to experience the sheer raw beauty of the Portuguese coast. Go have lunch at the elegant, upscale Furnas do Guincho , just outside of Cascais. If the restaurant were closer to the water, you'd be eating in the ocean. Sip wine, eat cheese, and watch the waves wash up against the rocky coastline. In the summer, dine al fresco. Then take a walk along Guincho Beach and take the path all the way into town. Stop along the way at Boca do Inferno, otherwise known as Hell's Mouth, a dramatic look out point known for its crashing seawater.

And if you want to spend the night in Cascais and explore nearby Sintra with its fairy-tale Pena Palace, Martinhal Chiado is a great base. A 68-room family friendly hotel with sleek design, 12 villas, three pools, and a Children's Clubhouse with over 7,700 square feet of play space.

Listen to some Fado

This is, admittedly, something more visitors than locals attend, but the music, a longing, kind of lyrical ballad, is so moving, not to mention romantic, that it's well-worth spending the evening listening to these emotional voices accompanied by the Portuguese guitar. At Club de Fado , located in the Alfama area of Lisbon, you'll find memorable music and cuisine. Two standout dishes are the Vegetables Pataniscas, a type of Portuguese fritter made out of vegetable batter and their homemade chocolate cake is unparalleled.

Indulge yourself with a Seven Hills of Lisbon Massage

Head to the Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon's spa and take in the sights . Lisbon is known for its seven hills and steep, winding landscape. No doubt, you'll feel it in your legs. The treatment focusses on just that area. And you know it's good because the treatment is popular among locals.

Have dinner at Restaurante Sinal Vermelho

Located in Bairro Alto, the restaurant hits the trifecta of what so many come to Lisbon for: well-priced seafood and wine, world-class bread, and authentic Portuguese food. Restaurant Sinal Vermelho is just that combination. Their grilled branzino in herbs and lemon is nearly perfect (and less than 20 euros) and the lamb stew special is tender and juicy.

Shop for Portuguese beauty products

Prepare to be addicted once you enter the Benamor store flagship store, located on Rua Augusta, Lisbon's main shopping thoroughfare. These sumptuous lotions and creams leave the rest in the dust. Founded in 1925 in Lisbon, the creams and lotions are still handmade with all natural products—argan oil, shea butter, and coconut oil, to name a few-are all sourced from Portugal. The aromas, like zesty lemon and organic rose buds, are intoxicating. Do not leave Portugal without at least one container of the brand's Alatoine Supreme Body Butter .

Take home some of the sea

It's rare to find a food that stays good for five years--but Portuguese sardines fall into that category. Find a wide—and beautifully packaged selection of canned fish at Comur at one of their three colorful, vibrant stores in Lisbon. This is not only holy temple to sardines, but to all kinds of seafood, including salmon, seam bream, octopus, and mussels, all of which are preserved solely in olive oil.

This chic boutique hotel is located in the heart of Lisbon in a restored 16th century palace. Poised to become one of Lisbon's must-stay properties, The One Palacio da Anuciada has a rooftop top pool, spa, a wine bar, and a buzzy gastronomic restaurant, Condes de Ericeira Restaurant, focussing on Portuguese market cuisine.

Getting to Lisbon has never been easier. Starting in June 2020, TAP Air Portugal will have four daily non-stop flights to Portugal and there will be an extra weekly flight to Porto. Look into the airline's popular Portugal Stopover Program , where the idea is stay up to five nights in either Lisbon or Porto and then go onto to one of 75 destinations throughout Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The Stopover Program has a network of more than 150 partners who offer hotel discounts and exclusive and complimentary experiences. And starting in summer 2020, TAP will have new service from Boston to the Azores and from Montreal to Lisbon.

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

THE OTHER DAY, while doing some spring cleaning, I found a hodgepodge of suntan lotion in our junk closet: half-filled bottles, still greasy from last summer’s vacation in Bodrum, Turkey. They were like well-worn postcards from our relaxed and happy days by the shore: Wish you were here! With my son nearing the end of third grade and the spring clouds finally parting in New York City, I’m beginning to think about what to do as a family during these upcoming bright, carefree months. There are travel plans, for sure: a beach vacation in Los Cabos over Memorial Day, an adventure-filled cruise to Alaska, a concert with friends in Las Vegas. Big picture, I want to embrace a few “best practices” from last year’s trip, no matter where we may go. Things…

GET SWEPT AWAY ON THE ENGLISH COAST

A GLOBETROTTER’S GUIDE TO THE LATEST IN TRAVEL TRAVELERS IN SEARCH of England’s classic seaside towns often head to Devon and Cornwall, southwest of London. But the popularity of those counties—particularly since more Brits snapped up second homes there during COVID—means bumper-to-bumper traffic in summer and restaurants booked out weeks in advance. Many are now turning their attention to Suffolk, about two hours northeast of the capital, for its quiet beaches, meandering river walks, and elevated pubs and restaurants. Here’s how I spent a long weekend there recently. FRIDAY For a wild stretch of golden sand framed by crumbling cliffs, rather than the more popular Southwold Beach, I went to Covehithe, on the north coast of Suffolk. When I arrived mid-morning, it was nearly empty, except for a few families building sandcastles. I…

LIVE LIKE ROYALTY IN MENORCA

FOR 15 YEARS, Victor Madera, a Spanish doctor who made his fortune in health care, and his wife, Maria Obdulia Fernández, have been acquiring and renovating historic homes throughout Spain. Their two dozen properties include a 13th-century castle in Extremadura and a 20th-century Modernist villa in Asturias. Three years ago, the couple sat down with their four daughters to decide what to do with these exceptional buildings—and how to maintain them for future generations. That was when the idea for a hospitality brand, Vestige Collection, was born. Inspired by Spain’s Paradores—a group of state-owned hotels founded by King Alfonso XIII in 1928—the family wants to protect the nation’s heritage while also providing a luxurious guest experience. “For my parents, saving and restoring these buildings is a deep passion,” says Claudia, the…

REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM IN MEXICO

DURING MY FOUR DAYS at the new Sha Wellness Clinic, just north of Cancún, Mexico, I had all manner of things done to my body: I got pumped full of intravenous vitamins, had acupuncture (twice), got slathered in a seaweed wrap, underwent an intravascular fat assessment, tried a Pressotherapy session to drain my lymphatic system, and fell asleep while a machine regenerated my cells with a mild electrical current. And I still had time for a mani-pedi. Head-to-toe experiences like these are par for the course at the first sibling property of the Sha Wellness Clinic, which opened in Spain’s Sierra Helada Natural Park in 2008. The brand has cultivated a following thanks to its signature longevity-boosting programs, which range from four to 21 days. Short on time, I chose the four-day…

Nine Beautiful Places to Visit in Portugal (if you’ve done Lisbon and Porto)

17 May, 2021

travel and leisure magazine portugal

Lisbon? Been there. Porto? Done that. As “second cities” step into the traveller’s spotlight, we’re stepping away from the beaten track and enjoying tiles and pasteis de natas in underrated fishing towns, scenic cities and sleepy medieval villages.

travel and leisure magazine portugal

T erracotta Terracotta roofs, pastel-coloured streets and bakeries stacked with pasteis de natas aren’t solely reserved for Lisbon. Nor are those pretty ceramic-tiled walls found only in Porto. After scoffing tins of sardines and downing bottles of port, venture outside of these tourist-trodden hubs to some of Portugal’s overlooked, but no less lovely, towns and cities.

Been to Lisbon? Discover Portugal’s most underrated destinations

Made up of seven sleepy villages, this laid-back, low-key beach destination is the antithesis to the Algarve. An hour and a half’s drive south of Lisbon, Comporta has a 12km stretch of pristine sand among what are arguably some of the best west-coast beaches. It’s long been a favourite holiday destination among locals, with landscapes of rice fields, pine forests and thatched cottages. The area has a hippy-chic atmosphere and simple charm. Pay a visit to Sal restaurant for divine fresh fish, or splash out on dinner at Quinta da Comporta .

Cascading down the banks of the Mondego River, Coimbra is a scenic city filled with a mishmash of architectural influences: Romanesque monasteries, baroque libraries and Moorish cathedrals sit side-by-side. At its core is Portugal’s oldest and most prestigious university, a huge sugar-cube structure perched on a hill with an imposing 17th-century bell tower that crowns the city. More than just a historical checkpoint famed for its relics, Coimbra has a lively student population that ensures there’s always an electric energy running through its veins – visitors will find it in the streets serenaded by the sounds of fado singers and in bars that line the riverbanks. Look out for the political graffiti scrawled across the walls.

Technically a town but with enchanting landscapes that resemble a page torn from a Hans Christian Andersen storybook, Sintra is worthy of a deliberate detour. Crumbling castles, fairy-tale turrets and champagne-bottle-shaped chimneys peak out from the misty wooded hillside that unfolds into the Atlantic. It’s easy to see how this was once a summer playground for Portuguese royals. Stroll through the flamboyant estates, exotic gardens and whimsical grottos decorated with mythical creatures that once inspired Byron. Though Sintra is popular with day-trippers (it’s just a 40-minute drive or bus ride from Lisbon), lingering a little longer in one of its candy-coloured casas means that you can absorb Sintra’s jaw-slacking beauty at your leisure.

Stay: Tivoli Palácio de Seteais

Monsaraz is a quiet medieval village, scattered on a hill in the back-to-nature Alentejo region. The village looks over the vast Alqueva Lake (one of Europe’s largest) all the way to the Spanish border. Expect whitewashed buildings and cobbled streets, traditional potteries and small textile producers. All roads lead up the hill to Monsaraz Castle. The surrounding land is one of Portugal’s most important agricultural regions, home to vineyards, olive groves, miles of farmland. A low population means low levels of light pollution, and a recent designation as a Dark Sky Reserve. So get out the binoculars come nightfall. For the best beaches, head to Costa Vicentina.

Stay: São Lourenço do Barrocal

Hopeless romantics will feel at home here; in 1282 King Dinis gave Óbidos to a young Queen Isabel of Portugal as a wedding present. It’s her you can thank for the town’s handsome sun-bleached houses buried beneath creeping bougainvillea and the gothic doorways decorated with intricate tiles. Although, Óbidos doesn’t just rest on its good looks. Historic spaces have been remodelled into contemporary bookstores – scout out first editions, design books and coffee-table centrepieces – while cobbled streets lead to artisan chocolate stores serving ginja, the local cherry-flavoured liqueur. Coincide visits with the town’s many festivities: come in July for the open-air theatre at the Medieval Fair , bibliophiles should book in October for the literary festival and November sees the town covered in sugared sculptures for the annual International Chocolate Festival .

Stay: Immerso

Once a meeting point for kings in the Middle Ages, Évora has retained all its glory and grandeur. Arguably more photogenic than Lisbon, its narrow lanes reveal whitewashed houses with yellow trimmings the colour of pasteis de natas and expertly preserved Roman ruins dating back to the first century. Take coffee in the pretty Praça do Giraldo square before heading to Paço de São Miguel for views across the rust-coloured rooftops. After seeing the city’s main sights, hire a car to explore the rural region outside its walls – the area is a hotbed for agriculture and production. You’ll find rolling hills, rows of vineyards and marble quarries glistening in the Alentejo sun.

A quaint little fishing town just west along the coast from Lisbon, Cascais is hardly a well-kept secret. Still, the so-called “charm of the Atlantic Coast” ticks all the boxes: there are sandy beaches and a busy marina, a quaint little Old Town, a bustling local market and nearby hilltop palaces on the way to Sintra. What’s more, the coastal town is only 30 minutes’ drive from Lisbon. Historically, Cascais was the summer retreat of the Portuguese nobility, and many grand waterside villas still stand today. At the beach, look out for Boca do Inferno – or “the mouth of hell” – an impressive natural rock formation through which powerful waves crash. If you have a little more time here, check out museum Casa das Historias Paula Rego.

The village built around boulders. Monsanto is one of the most memorable settlements you’ll come across. It’s close to the Spanish border and worth exploring if only for its fascinating history: Monsanto has been inhabited since Paleolithic times. Romans bathed here, King Afonso Henriques conquered it, and the fabled Knights Templar built the village’s first castle. Climb up to the east side of the castle at dawn and discover the ruins of the Chapel of São João, with half-derelict arches framing the mountains in the distance.

Stay: Casas da Villa

Viana do Castelo

This medieval port is one of the real jewels of the Costa Verde, famous for its 16th-century architecture and as a pilgrim destination for those walking along the Portuguese Way (an alternative to the Camino de Santiago.) All the city’s money came from the sea – first as a gateway for Portugal’s empire, and then through cod fishing – and gaudy Baroque palaces and monasteries are densely packed into the city walls. References to Nossa Senhora da Agonia, the patron saint of fishermen, wash up pretty much everywhere. Hire a bike and venture along coastal paths to get a feel for the area.

Lisbon old town from Miradouro da Graça viewpoint

Why you should visit Lisbon

When it comes to Lisbon it’s “safe to say the secret’s out”, said Condé Nast Traveller . Portugal’s coastal capital welcomes more than 4.5 million visitors each year, many of whom “flock” to the city for its “fado music, historic ruins, winding old town, trams”, and, “not to mention”, those pastéis de nata.

It’s not just the delicious egg custard tarts that visitors are coming here for though. There are seven “cinematic” hillsides which cradle Lisbon’s “postcard-perfect panorama of cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins and white-domed cathedrals”, said Lonely Planet . This is a “captivating scene” that’s been “crafted over centuries”.

Arguably western Europe’s “most underrated” capital city, Lisbon is also one of the continent’s oldest, said Katie Jackson on Travel + Leisure . Now home to many Michelin-starred restaurants and five-star hotels, today the city is “thriving” and really “checks all the boxes”.

Top attractions and things to do

There are enough “world-class” attractions to “keep you busy whether you’re here for the weekend or a longer holiday”, said Amanda Canning in The Times . You could stay in Lisbon for a month and “still find new things to do”.

Historical landmarks

The Lisbon region’s rich history and heritage are displayed in abundance through its architecture, monuments, Unesco World Heritage sites and museums. Must-visit landmarks include Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower – an iconic symbol of Lisbon – and Castelo de São Jorge, which is perched on one of the city’s highest viewpoints. Places for a day trip include the National Palace at Mafra (17 miles from Lisbon) and the breathtaking town of Sintra (18 miles from Lisbon), which is known for its cultural landscape.

‘Fado’ houses

Deep-rooted in Lisbon’s culture is “fado”, part of Unesco’s intangible cultural heritage list and often referred to as the soul of Portuguese music. At the “fado houses” in Bairro Alto and Alfama, you can enjoy this music while tasting traditional Portuguese cuisine and wine. To learn more about it head to the Fado Museum . In the neighbourhood of Mouraria you will find the Fado Vadio, a street art mural created as a tribute to this traditional music.

Alfama is one of Lisbon’s oldest areas

Stunning views from a miradouro

Spread across seven hills, Lisbon is dotted with miradouros (viewpoints) that offer unforgettable vistas. Usually located at the highest points of each hill, the miradouros are a great place to sit back and take in the city below. Views of Alfama’s picturesque rooftops, towers and domes from the Miradouro das Portas do Sol are some of the most memorable in the city. The Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is another popular spot, famed as one of the city’s more romantic viewpoints and perfect for admiring the sun as it sets behind the striking Castelo de São Jorge.

Tagus River

For a different perspective on the city, the Tagus River offers plentiful options for visitors. A riverboat trip is the perfect way to take in the must-see views such as the stunning 25 de Abril bridge and the Cristo Rei monument which towers above the south bank. Romantics can enjoy a sunset cruise while exploring the city by river. Along the banks there are also many great areas to discover, such as the Parque das Nações district with its futuristic architecture, urban art and green spaces.

Rua Garrett in Chiado, Lisbon

Bohemian neighbourhoods

Chiado and Bairro Alto represent Lisbon at its “most bohemian and alternative”, said Lisbon.net . Chiado is “frequently compared to Paris’ Montmartre district” and its most famous streets are Rua do Carmo and Rua Garrett. The square and its surrounding streets are “full of famous cafés, theatres, and museums”. The “rather alternative” area of Bairro Alto is “probably the best part of the city to find good fado restaurants”.

A day at the beach

The Lisbon region is famous for its stunning golden beaches, just 20 minutes from the city, with some of its most popular found along the Costa da Caparica and Linha de Cascais. However, for those wanting to soak up the sun without the crowds there are quieter options to be found. The secluded coves along Arrábida’s coast – such as Galapinhos, Galapos, Coelhos and Creiro – offer crystal-clear waters and tranquil surroundings. For real off-the-beaten-track exploration, travellers can head to Sintra to discover Ursa beach.

Arrábida Natural Park

With its deep blue seas, idyllic beaches and vibrant green hills, the Arrábida Natural Park is one of the most beautiful places to visit on a trip to Lisbon. Located 30 minutes south of the city by car, it offers an array of natural gems to discover including hundreds of species of butterfly, birds and mammals. Keen hikers will enjoy its many trails, with the steepest only suitable for the fittest and most adventurous travellers.

Memmo Príncipe Real

Places to stay: best hotels and accommodation

The city has been through a “major boom” in the last ten years, with travellers “shunning more classic European city breaks” in favour of staying somewhere that offers “beauty, culture and fun”, said Condé Nast Traveller . According to the magazine, The Ivens in Bairro Alto is “best for location”, Sublime Lisboa is “best for luxury”, Hotel 1908 is “best for an affordable stay”, and Corinthia Hotel is “best for families”.

Experts at The Telegraph have given 9/10 ratings to more than 30 hotels in Lisbon. Pick of the bunch is Memmo Príncipe Real. Located in the “fashionable” Príncipe Real district, this hotel offers 41 “sleek” rooms, an “elegant” restaurant and “panoramic views” across the capital. “Perfectly located” on the Praҁa dos Restauradores, boutique hotel Altis Avenida “faces the Avenida da Liberdade on one side and the neo-manueline, horseshoe-arched Rossio station on the other”.

Another Memmo hotel, the adult-only Memmo Alfama is “a study in calm”, said Amanda Canning in The Times . Here you can “start and end the day” on the rooftop terrace, with “stonking views” down to the Tagus River. At Palacio Ramalhete, in the neighbourhood of Lapa, “you’ll forget you’re in a city at all”.

Pastéis de nata is a Lisbon classic

Eating and drinking

No visit to Lisbon is complete without sampling a pastéis de nata, the delicious sweet egg custard tarts sold in pastelaria on virtually every street in the city. Since 1837 people have been “lining up” at Pasteis de Belem – a “beloved” Lisbon institution selling baked goods “faster than they can bake them”, said Katie Jackson on Travel + Leisure . There’s “usually a massive line”, but it’s “always worth the wait”.

There’s more to Lisbon’s culinary scene than these sweet treats. The region’s seafood is also not to be missed. Bacalhau (salted codfish) is the king of seafood in the region, grilled sardines are a Lisbon icon, and fried cuttlefish is also popular – all delicious when enjoyed alfresco with a glass of local wine.

Mercado da Ribeira in Lisbon

Those wanting to explore Lisbon’s newest and hippest eateries should head to the waterfront Cais do Sodré district, home to the giant Mercado da Ribeira ( Time Out Market ). Alongside the traditional produce market is a vast selection of food stalls and pop-ups from some of Lisbon’s leading restaurants offering innovative street-food style cuisine. Around the corner is Rua Nova do Carvalho (known as “Pink Street”). Formerly the city’s red light district, it is now a lively nightlife area packed with trendy bars and restaurants.

Riverside bars and restaurants are great places to enjoy Lisbon’s food and drink; the Alcântara district is the place to find the trendy Santo Amaro Docks and the LxFactory , which houses more than 50 shops, restaurants and bars inside a renovated factory building.

In the Michelin Guide , Lisbon has two two-starred restaurants: Alma and Belcanto. If you’re keen to experience contemporary cuisine, Alma offers “a treat for all the senses”, said the Guide. And at Belcanto guests can go on a “journey of gastronomic discovery” in a dining room divided into different spaces. There are also 14 one-star restaurants and seven which have been awarded a Bib Gourmand .

The stunning 25 de Abril bridge in Lisbon

Transport: how to get to Lisbon

There are direct flights to Lisbon from Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton and Manchester, according to Skyscanner . Lisbon Airport is located just 20 minutes away from the city centre. It has a Metro station and many bus services.

W Algarve: I visited Portugal's laid-back luxury hotel - my honest thoughts

Portugal's first w hotel is just 10 minutes away from the exciting albufeira nightlife.

When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn commission. Read our full commerce guidelines  here .

Sophie Bates

Best known for its scenic coastline and incredible beaches, the Algarve is a popular holiday destination for couples and families – and with the peaceful setting being just a stone's throw away from one of the most up-and-coming party spots in Europe, the coastal city of Albefueria is one to have on your radar.

I stayed at the W Algarve during my trip to Portugal's largest resort town. Situated 40 minutes from Faro airport, the hotel embodies relaxation despite being just a 10-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Albufeira's famous strip and Old Town.

Part of the Marriott International Group, the hotel opened its doors in the summer of 2022, with 134 west-facing rooms and suites overlooking the stunning beach backdrop.

w algarve wet deck

First Impressions of W Algarve

The moment I stepped through the doors at W Algarve, I was captivated by the unique interiors. From the 613 colourful embroidered plates that scale the lobby wall as a nod to traditional Portuguese houses to the mesmerising mosaic floors at the check-in desk, guests are instantly met with the Algarve's rich culture with a fresh, stylish twist.

It's not just the decor that has been given great attention, as the staff's level of service goes above and beyond. The hotel runs by a 'Whatever/ Whenever' motto, where dedicated team members are on hand to help make your stay as carefree as possible, whether that's through recommending local gems or topping up your amenities.

The rooms at W Algarve

w algarve bedroom

The bright bedrooms follow suit with the rest of the hotel, combining modern style with intricate detailing that channels the Algarve. Whether you're staying in a Guest Room, a Suite, or the breathtaking E-WOW Penthouse, each room gives a stylish take on the coastal theme with geometric mirrors, shaped headboards, and blue and green hues.

Hotel balconies can often feel like an afterthought in a hotel, but the space perfectly complements the room as an extension of the relaxing atmosphere that you could spend hours on. Overlooking the pool and the sea, the stunning views can be enjoyed from the stylish sofas while enjoying your morning coffee as you watch the sunrise.

w algarve balcony

The food at W Algarve

The hotel's main restaurant, Market Kitchen, offers food all day, with indoor and outdoor seating for a buffet-style breakfast and a Portuguese International menu for lunch and dinner. Serving seafood, sushi, and meats fresh from the coals, I'd recommend the fresh jumbo prawns followed by the rich blood orange cheesecake for dessert.

w algarve market kitchen

While tucking into your moonlight dinner and the restaurant's extensive cocktail menu, you won't want to miss the Santa Fonte light show. The synchronised water performance spreads across the grounds with music and a colourful display that will leave you speechless.

On the roof terrace, you'll also find the Paper Moon restaurant serving up Italian cuisine, while the W Lounge offers a selection of wine and snacks. Steps away from the relaxing pool area is the SIP @ WET deck, where guests can take in the views while enjoying an vast drinks menu along with fresh salads and healthy food options.

w algarve roof terrace

Where to relax at W Algarve

The two-tier pool area provides ample space for relaxation, offering comfortable sun loungers and decked seating. You don't have to travel far before you're taking in the golden sands and peaceful sound of waves either, as Praia do Evaristo beach is just minutes away, and can be accessed by foot or via a golf buggy driven by the hotel staff.

The Away Spa goes the extra mile to ensure guests leave feeling relaxed. The lounge area offers scenic views of the hotel grounds and the sea to unwind between treatments, with soothing sounds and serene decor to elevate the experience. The extensive list of treatments means you can find the perfect massage to suit your needs, followed by a dip in the pool and jacuzzi to round off your visit.

Final thoughts

Whether you're visiting the Algarve for a relaxing getaway or are looking for a calm escape to balance your lively visits to Albefeuria's buzzing strip, W Algarve offers everything you need to unwind during your stay. The attention to detail at every corner paired with the impeccable level of service makes for an unforgettable experience suitable for solo trips, couples, and group trips.
