TripAdvisor is a US-based travel and restaurant website that hosts hotel, restaurant, and other travel accommodation and travel-related listings. Users of TripAdvisor can leave reviews on all listings, and the owners of those listings can respond and interact with customers. From time to time, you may find yourself wanting to contact TripAdvisor related to a customer service issue or other inquiry, in which case it’s important to choose the right contact method to ensure your question gets through to the right department. Owners of listings on TripAdvisor will also need to report issues occasionally to ensure that their listings stay reliable and uncompromised by things like fraud.

Contacting Different Departments of TripAdvisor

Step 1 Fill out the general support form for general inquiries.

  • If your inquiry is related to a listing you own, then selecting the “My Business” option will redirect you to the management center where you can send your inquiry.

Tip : Find lots of general TripAdvisor information and answers to customer service questions in the help center here: https://www.tripadvisorsupport.com/hc/en-us .

Step 2 Make your changes from the Management Center.

  • Before you fill out the form or call, check if you can find the answer to your question in the FAQs here: https://www.tripadvisorsupport.com/hc/en-us/sections/200154907-Vacation-Rentals .

Step 4 If your question is related to a Viator booking.

  • If you are an owner and would like to sign up for Viator, use the following link https://supplier.viator.com/sign-up-info

Step 5 Use the media kit form to contact TripAdvisor about advertising or display sales.

  • This applies mostly to travel professionals. For example, if you work for a travel agency or hospitality business of some kind and would like to pay for things like banner ads on TripAdvisor.

Step 6 Email the correct press contact email if you are a member of the media.

  • For North America, the email is: [email protected]. For the UK, Ireland, and the EMEA region it is: [email protected]. For Singapore and Asia Pacific it is: [email protected].
  • EMEA stands for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • You can find recent press releases about TripAdvisor here: https://tripadvisor.mediaroom.com/us-press-releases .

Reporting Issues about a Review

Step 1 Report reviews that violate guidelines, are suspicious, or are mis-posted.

  • Keep in mind that the review will only be removed if it is posted to the wrong property, if it violates TripAdvisor’s review guidelines, or if it is deemed suspicious. You can read the review guidelines here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Trust-lvBd3L1aU38Y-Review_posting_guidelines.html .
  • Here is a link to the management center: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Owners .

Tip : If you simply received a bad review on your business, but it does not meet any of the above standards to be removed, then the best thing you can do is respond to it. A response from management to a bad review shows that you care about the customer’s experience and want to improve it.

Step 2 Report optimization fraud to help TripAdvisor keep reviews legitimate.

  • Optimization fraud, also known as organized boosting, is when companies contact TripAdvisor listings owners and fraudulently offer to help manipulate their listings’ positions in exchange for pay.
  • Organized boosting is against TripAdvisor’s policies, unethical, and can even be illegal. If you are contacted by a company claiming they can help optimize your listing, then report them immediately to TripAdvisor.
  • Keep in mind that no company claiming to have an official relationship with TripAdvisor that allows them to manipulate listings is telling the truth.
  • You can find more info on optimization fraud here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/TripAdvisorInsights/w626 .

Step 3 Prevent blackmail reviews by reporting threats immediately.

  • A blackmail review threat is when someone contacts the owner of a business and threatens to leave a bad review if they are not provided with something like a refund or upgrade, or some other request is not met.
  • Although these are often just empty threats, it’s important to report them immediately to put them on the official record. TripAdvisor takes blackmail very seriously and will do everything possible to stop these types of reviews from appearing on the site.
  • If a blackmail review has already been posted on your listing, then follow the process for reporting suspicious reviews and provide all the proof you have that a specific review is the result of a blackmail threat.
  • You can read more about reporting blackmail threats and blackmail reviews here: https://www.tripadvisor.com/business/insights/hotels/resources/report-blackmail-threat

The 4 Most Important Things New Travel Advisors Should Know About Customer Service

The 4 Most Important Things New Travel Advisors Should Know About Customer Service

Photo: Shutterstock.com

Customer service is at the heart of being a travel advisor. It’s why most travelers choose advisors over online booking engines or low-cost wholesalers.

But what does great customer service mean when you’re a travel advisor? Is it simply being nice and saying please and thank you? Is it giving the customer exactly what they’ve asked for because the “customer is always right”?

Travel Market Report spoke to a number of long-time advisors to find out what they think people who are new to the biz should know about customer service.

(This is the second in a five-part series in which travel advisors who have been in business for at least 10 years share the wisdom they’ve learned over the course of their careers. In the first installment, we spoke to advisors about the things they wish they’d known when they were first starting out . Next week, we discuss supplier relations.)

1. Honesty goes a long way. “Be honest with your clients,” said Penny Rushing of Florida-based Four Points Travel, an Avoya Travel agency.

Unlike in other industries, the client isn’t always right when it comes to travel. People think they know what they want, but without all the background knowledge that advisors have, they’re often wrong.

“To me, respect is king and that means always being honest with your clients, even if it means telling them no,” said Justin Smith, president of The Evolved Traveler, an Ensemble Travel member agency.

It’s much better to say no and explain why you can’t do something. Or why it’s not the right choice but something else is, Smith added. Acting in their best interest helps build trust – and loyalty – and they’ll come to rely on you for the right suggestions.

“Saying yes just to appease them doesn’t benefit anyone,” he said.

2. Listen. Carefully. “In most cases, the customer wants to be heard,” said Ann Sadie Osten, president of Sadie’s Global Travel Ltd., a TRAVELSAVERS member agency. “Listen carefully and don’t interrupt them. Allow them to talk, vent, express frustrations, and then and only after they have finished talking, repeat what you understand them to be saying, and then offer the proper response – whether it be an apology, a thank you for sharing their feedback, etc. I value feedback – whether negative or positive – and thank my clients for sharing as it allows us to learn, grow and be more informed of the needs of our clients.”

John R. Schmitt, Jr., president of Frankenmuth Travel, also a TRAVELSAVERS member agency, echoed Osten.

“When it comes to customer service, above everything else, it is vital that advisors learn the skill of listening and understanding client needs,” he said.

Travel advisors nowadays are just that, “advisors,” not agents. Your job is to do more than be the middle man. But to give the best advice, you need to understand who your client is and what they want. Don’t stop at questions about how much money they want to spend or what destination they want to visit. Ask them why they want to go there or what they’re hoping to experience. It might turn out you have a better suggestion for what they really want.

3. Be available. Both Rushing and David Locke, co-owner of Seize the Seas, also an Avoya Travel member agency, told TMR that being available to your clients at all times is key to good customer service.

“Answer your phone. Respond promptly,” Rushing said.

Locke went even further. “We are ‘always’ available to our clients. We do not work ‘24/7’ but we read our emails and texts and visual voicemails no matter what time of day or night (it may be an emergency), or no matter where in the world we are.”

In a highly competitive market, Locke said, if you aren’t responsive, clients will find someone else on the Internet who is.

4. Set the bar high and never let it down. “From the start go over and above with the way you treat the guest,” said Richard Stieff, owner of a Boynton Beach Cruise Planners franchise. “Set a high bar so they realize nowhere else will they be given the ‘white glove’ service you will provide.”

Once you’ve set the bar, you have to make sure you keep it up. As mentioned above, that means always being available, listening to what your clients want, and having the best advice.

What a Travel Advisor Really Does and Why You Need One

A good travel advisor can be the key to a memorable trip, handling logistics, access, and on-the-ground support. here’s how to find and use the best of the best..

  • Copy Link copied

The best advisors have connections that an open doors for travelers: to exclusive hotels, to popular restaurants, and to special VIP experiences.

Planning trips these days can feel like a full-time job: flights to book, an itinerary to perfect, the best restaurants and hotel suites to reserve. Luckily, it literally is a full-time job for many knowledgeable people—and they’ll do all the planning and booking for you.

There are thousands of travel advisors across the world who specialize in virtually every destination and type of trip. And they’re more in demand than ever as people seek authentic, meaningful, and conscientious experiences in a world of overtourism, air travel hassles, and climate concerns.

But what value can travel advisors add in this interconnected age, when you can text almost any person or company around the world in an instant, and endless startups are replacing personal interaction with AI-formulated answers? They can add a lot.

More than just logistics

These days, the phrase “travel advisor” most commonly refers to what used to be called a travel agent—a generalist based in the country you live in, who can arrange an itinerary almost anywhere via the local providers they know around the globe. But it’s also worth broadening the way you think about a trip planner to include destination experts—the in-country providers themselves—who create and run trips only in that region and who often work with travelers directly. No matter which kind of travel planner you work with, there are benefits to be had—and they’re not limited to booking flights and hotels. They can usher you into a VIP world of exclusive reservations, singular experiences, and special amenities.

“The best ones know the destination incredibly well and have connections to be able to pull strings to make things happen that you might think are impossible,” says travel journalist and industry expert Wendy Perrin, who maintains a “Wow List” of the best-reviewed planners and matches travelers to the ideal people for their needs.

Her site, WendyPerrin.com , is full of detailed reviews from travelers who have used the experts on her list. Take Jeannie Mullen, who’s on the board of directors of a professional theater company in her hometown of Highlands, North Carolina. Perrin connected her with Jan Sortland of Norwegian Adventures , a destination expert who arranged for Mullen to meet his actress sister-in-law for coffee, followed by a backstage tour of Oslo’s National Theatre. Then he packed in storytelling with a reindeer herder and four nights of northern lights viewing.

Advisors can also unlock such perks as hotel credits for free breakfasts and late checkouts. These benefits “can be valued in hundreds of dollars, depending on the accommodations, without [you] having to play the points and rewards game,” says Josh Bush, the CEO of family-owned travel advisor group Avenue Two Travel . Other advisors may have access to cruise credits and cabin upgrades.

Illustration of a person holding a giant yellow umbrella over a family of travelers with luggage, protecting them from rain

A travel advisor can help prepare and protect travelers in cases of bad weather, sickness, and other emergencies.

When things go awry

Advisors can come in handy during your travels, too. They’ll have an extensive support network on the ground to “prevent the pitfalls that can hex a trip,” Perrin says.

Amina Dearmon, who founded the agency Perspectives Travel , recalls a time some of her clients were leaving the Caribbean country of Dominica. Adverse weather canceled their Friday flight home, and they were told at the airport that the next flight would be on Tuesday. Dearmon used her knowledge and contacts to get them on a flight the following morning and arranged a shuttle back to their villa for an extra night. Fancy doing all that yourself at the end of a holiday?

When Afar’s executive editor, Billie Cohen , landed in Beijing with food poisoning, Mei Zhang of Wild China (a destination expert who’d fashioned a two-week trip for Cohen) was there to help. “Mei was on the phone with my driver as soon as I landed . . . and was ready to take me to the doctor if I needed it,” Cohen says. “It was reassuring to have someone looking out for me, and who spoke the language.”

William Kiburz, vice president of Coronet Travel, was able to go a step further when a client had a health emergency while touring Christmas markets in Europe. Kiburz had secured the traveler a comprehensive insurance policy that allowed him to have surgery in a German hospital—and then Kiburz assisted with claims to cover the medical procedure.

Unexpected perks

Enlisting the right professional can also improve your travels in ways you may not have imagined. Come in with an open mind, and they’ll broaden it further. Perrin often makes a case for new possibilities—Panama instead of Costa Rica, say, or Sri Lanka (which “so many people just don’t even think about”).

Bush agrees: “Advisors can redirect clients to an alternative destination by getting to the ‘why’ and identifying another similarly amazing destination with those attributes and interests. And they can point them to a time of year when it’s great to go but minus all the crowds.”

Indeed, in popular spots, advisors can help avoid the scourge of overtourism. For cruises on Egypt’s Nile River, Jim Berkeley, founder and CEO of Destinations & Adventures International , introduces travelers to small, semi-private dahabiya houseboats, which can dock at ports the big ships can’t access, allowing guests to visit less crowded sites off the typical main route.

Advisors can also do a lot of the groundwork to ensure trips are sustainable—an increasing request from travelers—by vetting suppliers and partners. Advisors at Avenue Two Travel, a certified B Corp, take time to research the activities and in-country companies, appraise them in person, and have “frank conversations,” Bush says. They then present travelers with ways to leave a smaller footprint, give back to the community, and engage in philanthropy. “An advisor takes the worry of sustainability off the client by handling it for them,” he adds.

How to find the right advisor

Don’t blindly Google your way to a good advisor. First, consider consortia. The Virtuoso group is a network of some 20,000 travel advisors and more than 1,800 travel companies; each one must be invited to join and must meet certain criteria regarding business model, philosophy, and culture. Signature Travel Network is another; it’s been around since 1956. The Afar Travel Advisory Council , meanwhile, is a small, select group of 14 experts in experiential travel. Kiburz and Bush are both members. SmartFlyer (whose CEO Michael Holtz is also a member of the Afar Travel Advisory Council) is a travel agency of in-house advisors and more than 250 independent affiliates—Dearmon’s agency, Perspectives Travel, is one of them.

The price of an advisor varies. According to Perrin, the cost is usually applied as a deposit toward the trip or as an additional fee.

But another option is to join a membership-based travel agency such as Indagare. For about $3,000 per year, members receive unlimited customized itinerary planning, a dedicated “trip designer,” and other perks.

A good advisor is well connected, well traveled, and always learning, Bush says. He recommends searching for an advisor based near your home if you’re after an in-person interaction; if you’re not, Perrin suggests a phone or video call at minimum to kick off the planning. “It’s important to find an advisor who you connect with and enjoy working with,” Bush says, noting that successful partnerships can last years or even generations. “The goal is to find one who really gets your travel and communication style.”

Worst Experience from customer service... - Flair Airlines

  • Flair Airlines

“Worst Experience from customer service of ground staff.” Review of Flair Airlines

Awful and terrible attitude from the lady inspecting luggage before check in. Very rude and disrespectful. This airline is so obsessed with luggage and don’t dare if you are traveling with various pieces of luggage (even small purse). I was traumatized by being requested to pay for my small laptop bag. Unbelievable, in Canada!

DO NOT USE. I paid $190 in surprise fees for a flight that originally cost $240. Can’t wait for this airline to go bankrupt.

Worst airline I have ever encountered! On May 26, I made 2 separate reservations for the same flight from Calgary to Abbotsford. My sons sole purpose of this trip, was to try out for a Junior A hockey team. Trying to save money on this trip, we didn't pay for any carry-on bags and paid ONLY for his hockey gear and sticks. It cost more to send a hockey bag to Abbotsford, than it does a person. We ended up paying for his friend to go as well to keep him company. The whole process from start to finish was excruciating. I didn't get email confirmations of either booking and it was very difficult to find out what the reservation codes were. I tried asking the support chat on the website, but none of my questions could even be understood. I called the 1800# but none of the options pertained to my question and they needed to have my reservation code to continue (which is why I was calling!) I only found it because I (luckily) hadn't closed the browser after booking. On May 31st I tried to check in for both flights. I tried MANY times to enter in the surname and the 6 digit alphanumeric number, but neither of the bookings worked. I followed the instructional message on the 1800# to clear the browser and try again. Still didn't work. I tried calling for assistance and using the chat bot for help and neither could help me. After 2hrs and at least 20 attempts I miraculously was able to check in for both flights. Upon arrival in Abbotsford, he found out that his hockey bag and sticks, did not leave Calgary. He missed his entire first ice time for the tryout which was the SOLE PURPOSE OF GOING! I called the 1800# and was on hold for 2hrs and 13min before anyone answered. I submitted a claim as per the employees adice, and was told I would receive an email back starting a conversation about getting his bag to Abbotsford. That call ended at 1352. It is now 22:52 and I have heard NOTHING. My son took an Uber to the airport in Abbotsford to see if it had maybe arrived on the later flight from Calgary, in hopes that he may have been able to make the ice time the next day. I spent over 6hrs (2hrs unpaid @work) trying to talk to someone who could help me. I called Flair as soon as they opened at 7am, hoping to avoid being put on hold. I was still on hold for over an hour. I spoke to someone else who kept saying, "I am really sorry but there is nothing more we can do". I asked to speak to a manager and was told he has a queue of people waiting. Shocking, I know! She told me he would call me back in 30 -60 min. Remember this was at 8am. At 1630, I called again. At this point, my son has missed both ice times and the trip was for nothing. I was on hold again for an hour when I finally spoke to a manager. He said the same thing. Bagged claim department doesn't do any communicating over the phone. It's all through email. He found my claim, said he would personally make sure I get an email communication back as soon as possible. I asked what the ETA on that was and he said, 24-48 HOURS!!! I am in complete shock and I will be putting a claim in for the ENTIRE cost of the trip including hotel, Ubers, flights, etc. I have never been more angry at the lack of service of a company.

I have flown flair 3x now from my retirement home in punta cana dominican republic to our daughters in st thomas Ontario (toronto pearson) my husband 2x. last time he really cheaped out and took another airline with a transfer in atlanta for a short trip just last month. He regrets his choice. for a 4 day trip it took him 36 hours to get there due to delays and missed flight because of them. Anyway. I digress. So I am booked again for two weeks to ontario in August and I HOPE i get the same cabin crew as the last few times. Yes.. the free personal item is small..don't be a cheapskate..if you want more pay for it (and yes it is cheaper than most airlines) just check some luggage. I want to say that I had the best flight attendant on the last 3 flights and I hope she is still there. I have a medical issue and in over 50 flights it has never caused an issue..but a couple of flights ago it did. I made my way to the washroom and asked this lovely flight attendant for a puke bag.. she asked was not one in your seat? nope.. she grabbed me one. She stayed outside the bathroom door. She gave me several more and escorted me back to my seat. She came to me about an hour later and said that someone had moved and there was a whole vacant row..would I like to lie down. I slept the rest of the way to toronto. She has been on 2 more of my flights from punta cana toronto or return and I hope to have her again. She has greeted me warmly each time even though that I have not needed help again. She is awesome and I wish I knew her name . If anyone is on the punta cana to toronto or the toronto to punta cana flights, she always wears a mask and sometimes gloves. Best best best air hostesss ever. She is seriously the main reason I look for flair now, and even though it is a budget carrier..I will pay more for flair than the other budget airlines...because of her.

Flight canceled. Flair system rebooked a flight 10 days later without my permission. Phone can never connect to a real person to solve the issue. I cannot even get a refund of the canceled flight. File a complain on the flair website, I can expect reject or ignore, but the fact is that the complain disappear the second day.
