The Bronx Community Foundation - Logo 1 copy

The Bronx Community Foundation is proud to partner with The Bronx Tourism Council, supporting our collective vision to see The Bronx become a global destination and showcase the vibrancy of our great borough and spirit of Bronxites.

Every year, over 6,000 riders participate in The Tour de Bronx, riding through the best of our borough, highlighting Bronx greenways, residential neighborhoods, historical districts, waterfronts, and many tourist attractions.

Tour de Bronx is FREE to everyone. And this year our goal is to engage every Bronxite, and people far and wide, to help raise money for Bronx-based nonprofits and health-focused initiatives.

Through a suggested donation of $20.23, help us make an impact in the lives of all Bronxites so that together we can celebrate and enhance all that we love about our borough—its people, its places, and its heart.

Tour de Bronx, New York state’s biggest free cycling event, returns for 29th annual bike ride

The Tour de Bronx is back for its 29th annual ride.

The ride, New York state’s biggest free cycling event, is taking place this Sunday, Oct. 22, and is open to bikers of all levels, although registration is required. The annual tour hopes to promote bicycling and encourage exploration of the Bronx’s parks and historic neighborhoods.

This year’s iteration will consist of three routes, including a new 10-mile route and bring back the 40-mile route for more experienced bikers. Last year, only a 25-mile ride was available. The three rides will start at 161 Street and Grand Concourse and finish at the New York Botanical Garden, with a rest stop available for all riders at the Castle Hill YMCA.

Additional rest stops are available for 40-mile riders at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Roberto Clemente State Park and Orchard Beach. There is also a new rest stop only for 25-mile riders at Pelham Bay Park.

The entire route goes through the Mott Haven district, along the East River, and through Pelham Bay Park — the city’s largest park.

The event is organized by Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson in conjunction with the Bronx Tourism Council and Transportation Alternatives. At a kickoff event on Tuesday, Gibson noted that the event aims to showcase healthier modes of transportation, while also highlighting the borough.

“With an emphasis on encouraging alternative modes of transportation and fitness, Tour de Bronx has each year been successful in attracting both new and skilled cyclists to explore our parks, cultural institutions, greenways, and everything else that makes our borough a beautiful place to live, work and visit,” Gibson said.

The Bronx ranks last out of 62 New York state counties in terms of health outcomes, according to the 2022 County Health Rankings National Findings Report, which includes neighborhoods in the southern portion of the borough known to be food deserts — areas where residents have limited access to quality nutrition, rely heavily on processed foods and are often oversaturated with bodegas in place of supermarkets.

For Marcos Crespo, senior vice president of community affairs at Montefiore Medical Center, the event plays an important role in encouraging better healthy habits. Montefiore Medical Center has been sponsoring the Tour de Bronx for almost two decades.

“As an institution committed to health and wellness beyond the walls of our hospitals and healthcare facilities, we are grateful for the opportunity to promote this annual event,” Crespo said.

Bike rentals are available through Unlimited Biking and can be picked up at the start line, and include free helmets. Ride-share bikes are also allowed at the Tour de Bronx, but must be docked before the tour’s final destination.

The event was founded in 1994 and has historically drawn thousands of riders. Last year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, organizers had to cap registration at 1,000 participants. Still, the group ride was at a pandemic peak, with the previous two years offering scaled-down, virtual self-guided rides where cyclists could team up with others to conquer one of three routes on their own.

This year, there is no limit on registration and organizers expect upwards of 4,000 bikers.

The 28th annual Tour De Bronx is back Oct. 23, capped at 1K participants

All bikers will receive a free t-shirt as part of the event, and there will be live musical performances after the bike ride.

Registration for this year’s ride ends on Oct. 21 and can be found here. Check in begins at 9 a.m. and the race starts at 11 a.m.

The 21st Annual Tour de Bronx Registration is Now Open

tour de bronx registration

The largest  free  cycling event in New York State to take place on Sunday, October 25th.

Bronx, NY, October 14, 2015  – Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and The Bronx Tourism Council are encouraging cyclists from all over the region to register for the  21st Annual Tour de Bronx , the largest free cycling event in New York State. The event was established in 1994 by the office of the Bronx Borough President and The Bronx Tourism Council as a means to promote a healthier lifestyle, an alternate mode of transportation and a way to tour the burgeoning neighborhoods, scenic waterfronts and greenways of the borough.

Participants come from all over the country to ride one of two possible routes: The 25-mile ride takes riders through the south, east and mid portion of the borough including the  Mott Haven  district,  Clason Point  along the East River, and  Pelham Bay Park , the largest park in New York boasting nearly 3,000 acres of natural forest; The 40-mile route includes a visit to the historic  Fort Schuyler  on the  Throggs Neck peninsula , the nautical community of  City Island  and the northwest communities such as  Woodlawn  and  Riverdale . Both rides conclude at the iconic  New York Botanical Garden  where riders receive a complimentary souvenir T-shirt and enjoy a live musical performance as they relax from the day’s festivities.

The  New York City Department of Transportation  will fit and distribute free bicycle helmets from 8am to noon (while supplies last) and  Metro North Railroad  will waive their bicycle permit requirements and quantity limits for the day.

“Tour de Bronx is a great event for people of all ages, especially for visitors to our vibrant borough. It gives everyone an opportunity to explore historical sites, see beautiful waterfronts, and ride through our amazing local neighborhoods,” said  Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr . “Once again, we are welcoming riders from across the region and around the globe to see The Bronx as they had never seen it before.”

Throughout the years, the event has grown exponentially. In 2014 the Tour de Bronx saw a record-breaking 7,000+ participants from all over the country as well as a few who come from abroad.

“It’s exciting to watch this event continue to evolve as we see more and more tourists joining New Yorkers to experience The Bronx in a unique way.” Says  Olga Luz Tirado , executive director of The Bronx Tourism Council.

“Montefiore is proud to partner with the Bronx Borough President and The Bronx Tourism Council on the Tour de Bronx,” said  Steven M. Safyer, M.D. , President and CEO of Montefiore Health System. “This annual event sends an important, positive message about our community and being physically and mentally active. It’s a unique, dynamic, and inspirational way to tour our home borough with its rich history.”

The Tour de Bronx is made possible by  Montefiore Medical Center ;  Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center  and  St. Barnabas Health System . Additional support is provided by  Transportation Alternatives ,  The Coca Cola Company, Domino’s Pizza  and  Clif Bar .

A host of community services and discounts will be available for each participant rider who cycles in the Tour de Bronx.

Riders looking to hang out in The Bronx after the tour, can find a fantastic culinary experience with authentic Italian flair on Arthur Avenue, the  real  Little Italy.

Emilia’s Restaurant is offering riders a select complimentary appetizer, while Blue Mediterranean Restaurant will discount 15% off your food order. Mike’s Deli is offering a free glass of homemade wine, Peroni Beer, or homemade iced tea with your purchase of a sandwich or a pasta dish.  You can also take the “Your Experience of The Little Italy in The Bronx” home with you by stopping at DeCicco Brothers Novelties and get three Arthur Avenue Tees for $24.99.

Or come back and join us as the Bronx Opera Company is offering $10 off of  all  tickets for this year’s performances. Riders  must show their bibs  to receive these offers.

The 28th annual Tour De Bronx is back Oct. 23, capped at 1K participants

' src=

On Sunday, Oct. 23, the 28th annual Tour De Bronx is back, giving participants the free opportunity to cycle through the borough’s historic districts, greenways and waterfronts with hundreds of companions.

The event, which was founded in 1994 by the Bronx Borough President’s office and the Bronx Tourism Council, has drawn thousands of riders in past years but will be capped at 1,000 participants this year . Borough President Vanessa Gibson said the limit on riders is part of the process of returning to normalcy as the city emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the group ride is a peek at pre-pandemic days, with the past two years offering scaled-down, virtual self-guided rides where cyclists could team up with others to conquer one of three routes on their own.

This year’s 25-mile ride will start off at 10 a.m. at East 161st Street and Grand Concourse and finish at the New York Botanical Garden, where participants will be greeted by a free festival and concert. There will also be self-guided virtual 10- and 40-mile tours for those who wish to under- or over-achieve.

man smiles and holds two thumbs up on his bicycle

According to Gibson, the tour welcomes both skilled and unskilled cyclists — she identified herself as the latter and said she will be participating. The event also promotes alternative modes of transportation and healthy living, she said, pointing to health disparities in the Bronx.

“This is all about health and wellness,” she said at a press conference at the Castle Hill YMCA on Thursday announcing this year’s tour. “And we know that as we talk about food equity and food access and food justice, as we talk about quality health care and stable housing, we also have to talk about alternative modes of transportation. They all work hand in hand together when you talk about building healthy neighborhoods, stabilizing our families and really creating the access and opportunity that we truly know is so important.”

Assemblymember Kenny Burgos, a Soundview Progressive, encouraged people to sign up and explore the beauty of the Bronx. A cyclist himself, he pointed out that the popular annual TD Five Boro Bike Tour through NYC barely touches the Bronx, so Tour De Bronx gives riders a better opportunity to see the northernmost borough.

Marcos Crespo, the senior vice president of community affairs at Montefiore (one of the Tour De Bronx sponsors), emphasized that the group ride is part of an effort to improve health outcomes in the Bronx. The Bronx is notorious for ranking last out of the 62 New York counties in the County Health Rankings.

Register for the ride on the event’s Eventbrite page, which can be accessed through the Bronx Tourism Council website .

Celebrating 29 Years of the Tour de Bronx

Two participants in the road race hold up a Montefiore Einstein towel from the road race. The're both dressed in bike helmets.

More than 4,000 registered riders took in panoramic waterfront views, crisp fall foliage and vibrant neighborhood scenes during the 29th annual Tour de Bronx bicycle race, co-sponsored by the Bronx Tourism Council in partnership with the Office of Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson and the Montefiore Einstein Office of Community Affairs.

Participants in the 40-, 25- and 10-mile event took advantage of refreshing “rest stops” serving fruit, water and other healthy hydration options. After a 9 a.m. start from 161st Street and Grand Concourse, the first group of riders crossed the finish line at the New York Botanical Garden at noon, cheered by Montefiore Einstein volunteers as they arrived. Cyclists were treated to restorative yoga classes and Montefiore Einstein-branded gym towels after the race.

Two smiling participants sit on the ground with Montefiore Einstein towel gifts.

The largest free cycling event in the state, the Tour de Bronx is a hallmark of autumn festivities and a source of local pride for the communities we serve. Our partnership in support of the race dates back more than a decade, and many Montefiore Einstein clinicians, staff, faculty and medical students are among the throngs of riders each year.

“The Tour de Bronx is a perfect example of free, fun, family-friendly physical activity that we encourage our community members to engage in. Montefiore Einstein was proud to support the ride again this year, and we congratulate Bronx Borough President Gibson and the Bronx Tourism Council for continuing this long-standing tradition in the Bronx,” said Yianna Justo, Director, Office of Community Affairs.

Congratulations to all who participated—as cyclists, volunteers and enthusiastic cheerleaders—to make the 2023 Tour de Bronx a truly fun-filled and memorable event.

Where to watch movies for free in Moscow this summer

People watching a movie in a Pioner 24-hour open-air cinema in Gorky Park.

People watching a movie in a Pioner 24-hour open-air cinema in Gorky Park.

Temporary cinemas will be popping up across Moscow very soon, starting from July 16. All of the spots are brilliant examples of either constructivist or avant-garde architecture, so expect striking settings. A selection of classic Soviet films will be aired using cinematic equipment from the last century. All the screenings are free although online registration is required beforehand, while there will also be guided tours of the spaces, organized by the “Moscow through the Engineer's Eyes” company.

Registration will be open soon at mos-kino.ru

Bread factory

Bread factory 9 / Bezik (CC BY-SA)

Following the success of former factories transformed into art spaces (VinZavod, Arma, Trekhgornaya manufacture), Khlebzavod (“bread factory”) No 9 is one newly opened joint that is attracting creative types from all over the city. The movie Time! Forward! will be screened in the building’s boiler room on July 16. It follows workers from the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, one of the largest steel companies in Russia, and is based on a novel by Soviet writer Valentin Kataev.

What’s more, Khlebzavod is a monument to constructivist architecture. Where better to watch such a film?

Novodmitrovskaya St. 1

Roof of the Narkomfin Building

Narkomfin Building / Kirill Zykov/Moskva Agency

The Narkomfin Building was originally designed to house high ranking employees at the Commissariat of Finance. It was built by architects Moisei Ginsburg and Ignaty Milinis. Also a fine example of constructivism, it’s currently in a state of disrepair, locked down, and fairly difficult to get into - which is like a red flag to a bull for more adventurous types.

However, on July 30 the place will be opened up and people will be welcomed onto the roof to watch the film Faith and Truth.

Novinsky Blvrd . 25b1

Khrushchyovka courtyard

Cheremushki district / Alexander Scherbak/TASS

A courtyard located in the 9th experimental block of the Novye Cheremushki district will turn into an outdoor cinema this summer. Cheremushki is the first district where Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchyov decided to build the iconic Khrushchyovka apartment blocks in the 1950s. As a result, thousands of Russians were given their own pads after decades living huddled together in communal apartments known as kommunalka .

Cheremushki is the adapted film-version of Dmitry Shostakovich’s operetta and will be shown here on Aug. 6. The organizers of the multiple screenings - the Moskino cinema chain - say they will revive the Soviet tradition of neighbors meeting in courtyards for a good old tongue wag. There will also be a guided tour of the block.

Address to be confirmed at mos-kino.ru

Pioneers Palace

Pioneers Palace / Legion Media

If you want a slice of the postwar Soviet avant-garde style, head to the Pioneers Palace at Vorobyevy Gory. Pioneers Palaces were youth centers for sport, creativity, and hobbies for Young Pioneers (a communist organization for children) during the Soviet Union. There were dance classes, martial arts, drawing, and many other activities.

To Love a Man , a movie about two young architects building a new town in Siberia, will be shown here on Aug. 22. There will also be a lecture about building experiments in the 20th century.

Kosygina St. 17b2

A secret place

A secret place / Press photo

The last cinema venue remains a secret. On Aug. 27 there will be a screening, but at the moment no one knows where. Information will appear on mos-kino.ru but those who attend all four screenings above will be able to guess the last location.

A talk about architecture and Soviet history also will be hosted here.

The 2024 Tour de France is officially underway for the 111th time, and the competition is starting to heat up. We've compiled everything you need to know about how to watch the Tour de France, including global free streaming options.

The race kicked off this year in Italy, but the riders are now cycling through France, with a third of the competition officially done. The race consists of 21 stages spread across 23 days, with each leg of the competition bringing its own set of challenges. The rider with the shortest combined times will be crowned victor in Nice, France, on July 21.

Slovenian cyclist Tadej Pogacar, who won the Tour de France in 2020 and 2021, currently leads the race. He's on a hot streak following a May first-place victory at the Giro d'Italia (the first of the three annual Grand Tour races). Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard, who won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023 but suffered a major crash earlier this year, is currently ranking third, trailing behind Belgian cyclist Remco Evenepoel.

Below, we've outlined all of the ways you can live stream the Tour de France. We'll keep this page updated with start times for every stage of the tournament.

Short for virtual private networks, VPNs allow people to temporarily change their device's virtual location so that they can access their usual websites from anywhere. Our go-to recommendation is ExpressVPN since it's beginner-friendly and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check out our ExpressVPN review for additional details, and keep reading to learn how to use a VPN.
