Die Toten Hosen are a punk band hailing from Düsseldorf, Germany who formed in 1982. Since their debut they have released 12 albums and become arguably the biggest punk band in Europe, selling out arenas and headlining festivals all over their native continent.

Coming together at the Ratinger Hof, a Düsseldorf bar notorious for being one of the premier hang-outs for punks all over the city, Die Toten Hosen formed as a six piece and in true punk rock style, played their first show barely a month after they formed in 1982. So new were they that when they were introduced on stage the compere got their name wrong. However, the band weren’t to be deterred and soon got enough of a cult following around their local punk scene that they could record and self-release their first single “Wir Sind Bereit” (We Are Ready). Although they lost their guitarist Walter November in 1983, the rest of the year was very kind to them, as thanks to the success of their single Eisgekühlter Bommerlunder (ice-cold Bommerlunder schnapps) on German radio, they signed to EMI Records in the summer of the same year and released their debut album “Opel-Gang” soon afterwards.

For the remainder of the decade, the band were one of the most outspoken and controversial names in German rock music. Never afraid to puncture the egos of their paymasters whether it was EMI or Virgin Records, who they signed to in 1984, or take a stand for what they believed in as a band. By 1989, the band were big enough to sell out the cavernous, 16,500 capacity Westfallenhallen in Dortmund and the album that they released afterwards, 1990’s “Kreuzzug ins Glück” (Crusade to happiness) would go on to sell over 150’000 in its first week of release. Ever since then, the band have managed to do the impossible in the world of punk rock, which is to have a lengthy, succesful career in mainstream rock without ever capitulating to anyone else’s idea of what they should be as a band. They remain punk rock heroes to this very day, releasing the most vital material of their career over thirty years after forming. For that, Die Toten Hosen come highly recommended.

Die Toten Hosen (translation to The Dead Pants) have been around and going strong for over 30 years now, and a lot of aspiring punk acts could learn a lot from the band. It’s crazy to think that the Germans met in a bar in Dusseldorf, and have come this far. Although they’ve seen a couple of alterations in the line up over the years, the band are still as strong as ever, and are creating music to the same standard that they were 30 years ago, if not better!

The band have released a staggering 15 albums, so going to see them live in concert, I really didn’t know how they were going to select their set list. It turned out that rather than focusing on a particular time period, they gave a fantastic performance of a selection of tracks from over the years. They opened with Bayern (Bavaria in English), and those guitar chords immediately had everyone completely invested in their performance. It’s great to hear musicians who are skilled at their instrument as well as the vocals, and you really get that from these guys.

They played songs from all across their back catalogue, and even had a couple of unreleased tracks for us, which was insanely exciting, and made everyone feel really privileged to be there. They’ve not lost their touch over the years at all, and they should really keep on performing, they’re still so talented.

Die Toten Hosen or Dead Beats to the none German speakers are a Dusseldorf punk band with over thirty years of experience on the circuit and entertaining international audiences. Their commercial successes may be limited to their homeland yet the cult status of this band has stretched across Europe and hundreds snap up tickets when they come to town to see this energetic and impassioned quintet perform in person.

There is very little present onstage tonight and some people are unsure if the roadies have been delayed with their setup yet on schedule the lights dim and the band appear to large cheers. They take to the instruments and begin to thrash out the introduction of 'Bonnie & Clyde' and it becomes instantly obvious why there are no stage decorations or production techniques as the group simply do not need them. They put the music at the forefront to be judged solely on its strengths and it stands up to scrutiny with complete ease. The energy, musicianship and connection with their audience are all top quality and set the bar for other bands coming through the ranks. Rock am Ring, das heißt Bass, Beats und Dezibel auf dem Nürburgring. Um 13:45 Uhr macht Querbeat auf der Utopia Stage den Auftakt bei Rock am Ring 2024.

Noch sind die Zeltplätze von Rock am Ring sehr feucht bis nass. Zu sehr hat es in den vergangenen Wochen in der Eifel geregnet. Aber der Matsch hält die Rockfans nicht ab, zu campen und fröhliche Stimmung zu verbreiten.

Anreise der RaR-Fans verläuft ruhig laut Polizei

Rund um den Nürburgring hat die Anreise zum Festival bereits am Mittwoch begonnen. Zu Rock am Ring am Wochenende werden zehntausende Fans erwartet. Bislang verläuft laut Polizei die Anreise der Fans ruhig und ohne größere Behinderungen.

Großer Ansturm der Fans für Freitag erwartet

Den ganz großen Ansturm erwartet die Polizei am Nürburgring aber erst am Freitag. Denn dann spielen ab mittags die ersten Bands. Außerdem kommen dann zu den Besuchern, die das ganze Wochenende da sind, auch noch die Rockfans mit Tagestickets dazu.

Rock am Ring startet mit seinem Bühnenprogramm am Freitag und geht am Sonntagabend zu Ende. Im vergangenen Jahr haben rund 70.000 Menschen das Musikfestival besucht. Das waren etwa 20.000 Besucherinnen und Besucher weniger als noch im Jahr zuvor, also 2022. Es spielen Bands wie Die Ärzte, Green Day, Billy Talent und Kraftklub.

9 AM: Pastry croissants at Café Tortoni

For me, there's nothing better than flying to Buenos Aires in winter and getting off the plane to a bright blue sky and summery temperatures. First thing in the morning, I'm drawn to the oldest café in the city. At the Café Tortoni, built in 1858 in the style of the French fin de siècle, waiters in white tailcoats serve a typical Argentinian speciality: medialunas with dulce de leche: pastry croissants with sweet caramel cream. Simply delicious! 

11 AM: Watching tango dancers on the Plaza Dorrego 

In Buenos Aires, life takes place on the street. Especially in San Telmo, the oldest neighborhood in the city. Here I like to sit in the sun on Plaza Dorrego and watch the colorful life around me. Or I stroll through the Feria de San Pedro Telmo flea and craft market, which has over 300 stalls. It takes place every Sunday on the Plaza Dorrego and is known for its open-air tango shows.

1 PM: Enjoy empanadas with cheese filling

At lunchtime, I find myself in the market hall of San Telmo, which has existed since the 19th century. I have often struck up conversations with locals at the many food stalls. For example, at the El Hornero stall, where you can try empanadas of every imaginable filling. They taste particularly good with a cheese filling.

3 PM: Stroll through the La Boca district

The La Boca district is a particularly lively area with its brightly colored houses, narrow streets and many street artists. Some of the houses date back to the time when the first Italian immigrants came to Buenos Aires and built their homes out of brightly colored sheet metal. La Boca is also famous because football legend Maradona once trained in the La Bombonera stadium.

5 PM: Café and bar tour in the Palermo district 

Palermo is a young and trendy neighborhood with its many cafés, bars and unusual shops. I once went to a Toten Hosen concert here. The German punk band has had a large fan base in Argentina for over 30 years. I'll never forget the audience shouting along to the Toten Hosen songs in German. Unfortunately, my favourite bar, the Hosen Bar, has now closed.

7 PM:  Dinner at the Lo de Jesús restaurant

Palermo is also home to my absolute favorite restaurant, the Lo de Jesus. You can eat first-class steak there, but vegetarians will also be happy. My favorite dish is the grilled cheese Provolone with creamy spinach called Espinacas a la crema.

9 PM: Drinks in the Milión bar

After dinner, I like to go for a cocktail or mocktail with friends from Buenos Aires to Milión, a restaurant bar in an old Belle Époque-style villa. Supposedly it bears this name because the owner spent a million dollars on its restoration. The investment paid off, and the glamor of the past is still alive.

Julia Buth started working for Lufthansa as a flight attendant in Frankfurt in 2008. Today she works as a purser. As cabin manager, she coordinates the other flight attendants and the service process on board. What she loves about her job is thinking outside the box and meeting all kinds of people from different cultures. She has been to Buenos Aires so often that she has many friends there with whom she regularly meets up for barbecues.

A Texas couple had a frightening moment Saturday when a giraffe at Fossil Rim Wildlife Center plucked their 2-year-old daughter out of the mother’s hands.

Jason Toten was driving a pickup truck through the wildlife tour with his fiancée and children in the bed of the truck when a giraffe walked over, leaned into the back of the truck and grabbed daughter Paisley, as Facebook video from a visitor in another vehicle shows.

“I looked out the back window and I saw the giraffe…and then up she went,” Toten told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram . “My heart stopped. It scared the hell out of me.”

Fortunately, after his fiancée said in a stern voice, “Hey,” the giraffe quickly dropped the toddler back into her mother’s hands.

“I guess it startled the giraffe,” Toten told the Star-Telegram. “She (Paisley) wasn’t even scared. As soon as her mom caught her, she went, ‘Oh.’”

With his daughter safely in the arms of mom, Toten quickly drove off.

He told the Star-Telegram that the incident was an accident, saying the giraffe was trying to grab a bag of food Paisley was holding but missed.

Visitors to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center , located 110 miles southwest of Dallas, are provided with food to feed some of the animals, explaining the behavior of the giraffe.

Giraffe lifts toddler out of a pickup truck at Texas wildlife center

A giraffe feeding experience at a Texas wildlife center turned frightening last week when one of the animals hoisted a toddler from the bed of the pickup truck she was riding in.

Video shared with NBC News by Jason Toten, the toddler's father, shows his daughter, wearing pigtails and a pink shirt, holding her hand out the back of a truck in an attempt to feed a giraffe on their tour.

The giraffe nudges its head into the girl and continues to get closer as she moves further into the bed of the truck. The video then appears to show the animal grabbing the girl and lifting her into the air.

A woman can be heard screaming in the background.

In a statement, Warren Lewis, chief marketing officer for Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, said the center was notified Monday of an "incident involving one of our giraffes" last weekend.

Lewis said that nothing like the incident had happened before at Fossil Rim, but that it is taking "immediate action to make sure it won’t happen again."

That includes a new rule barring visitors from riding through the park in truck beds.

Toten said he and his family are "saddened" to hear that visitors will no longer be allowed to ride in the back of trucks, but that his family will definitely revisit the park. He added that it's a "great place to go," especially for kids who love animals.

"It was an accident and the giraffe didn’t mean to. It was just one of them things that happened," Toten said.

"We're not mad at the giraffe. We’re not mad at the park," he added.
