Concertgoers can expect to hear the band’s signature unparalleled virtuosity and red-hot rock & roll spirit via their classic tunes alongside their most recent material. Their setlists will include massive hits such as “Stray Cat Strut,” “Rock This Town,” “Runaway Boys,” “(She’s) Sexy + 17,” and more.

LEE ROCKER : “With just a string bass, a guitar and a drum, we have always had less instruments and gear, but more rumble, more twang, more shake, and more bang than anyone else. Now’s the right time to bring it back!”

SLIM JIM PHANTOM : “I’m thrilled to be doing shows in 2024 with Stray Cats in the U.S.A.! Playing drums with Brian and Lee in our rockabilly band is the best possible way to spend a summer!”

There are some artists who become the personification of their genre. They represent everything good about that type of music to such an extent that most other acts simply sound derivative. When it comes to rockabilly, it's undoubtedly Stray Cats who define the sound.

Formed in 1979 while the rest of the world was lost in an ocean of synthesisers, Brian Setzer, Lee Rocker and Slim Jim Phantom perfected the rockabilly formula. Over the years they recorded countless classics but, quite simply, if you haven't seen them live you'll never know what truly gifted musicians they are. In a sold out Brixton Academy, the Stray Cats sound as fresh now as they ever did. Setzer's guitar sizzles as he picks out flawless licks and howls to the roof with a passion and rawness that belies his age. The rhythm sections seamlessly slips between the effortless cool 'Stray Cat Strut' and the psychobilly aggression of 'Rumble in Brighton'. (With an obligatory lyric change to 'Rumble in Brixton' on the last chorus) The band blast through old classics like 'Gene & Eddy' and 'Ubangi Stomp' with a swagger and energy reminiscent of glory days of rock n' roll. The slower numbers such as 'Summer Nights' give a chance for Setzer to show off how rich his voice has become with age as 4000 leather jacketed fans sway along.

All this comes before an encore including covers of 'Twenty Flight Rock' and 'That's Alright Mama'. The final number is a wild version of 'Please Don't Touch' where Lee Rocker mounts his double bass like a possessed rock n' roll gargoyle as Setzer leaps across the stage monitors with an enormous grin on his face.

I had the pleasure to see them in '83 at the US Festival in California. It was the '80s Woodstock, they played their 2nd album to 200,000+ before it was released. The 3-day line up was incredible, just google the bands and videos. When the cats started their first song all of the fringes of the crowd went to the stage for the first time making the food vendor area a ghost town. I know, I was the Icce vendor dude... The reviews said that they were the highlight of the event...

Incredible show. Three musicians really showcased their talent instrumentally, vocally, and with lots of energy. I would definitely recommend to any fan of theirs or those who love the rockabilly beat! Well worth the price to herd these cats!

Stray Cats Announce Summer Tour

Stray Cats  have announced dates for a summer tour that starts on July 27 in Woodinville, Washington, and concludes on Aug. 17 in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

More than two dozen shows will keep the trio - singer and guitarist Brian Setzer, bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom - on the road for three weeks this year. The rockabilly band was last on the road in 2019, playing a summer tour that year.

The earlier tour was in support of 40 , the Long Island-formed band's first album in more than 25 years. A live album culled from the tour, Rocked This Town: From LA to London , was released in 2020. Stray Cats released nine albums between 1981 and the 2019 reunion record. They scored three Top 10 singles during the peak run in 1982-83; their debut album in the States, Built for Speed  (compiled from their first two U.K. LPs), spent 15 weeks at No. 2.

"With just a string bass, a guitar and a drum, we have always had less instruments and gear, but more rumble, more twang, more shake and more bang than anyone else," Rocker added. "Now's the right time to bring it back."

Phantom said he was "thrilled to be doing shows in 2024 with Stray Cats in the U.S.A. Playing drums with Brian and Lee in our rockabilly band is the best possible way to spend a summer."

The Stray Cats Announce Summer 2024 Tour

Kevin Johnson

Rockabilly heroes Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom, and Lee Rocker have announced a new Stray Cats summer tour for 2024. The new set of dates mark their first since their 2019 reunion tour following the release of the album 40 .

They’ll be performing music from that record as well as hits from their catalog like “Stray Cat Strut,” “Rock This Town,” “Runaway Boys,” and more.

“With just a string bass, a guitar and a drum, we have always had less instruments and gear, but more rumble, more twang, more shake, and more bang than anyone else,” says Rocker. “Now’s the right time to bring it back!”

Brian Setzer adds, “I’ve always said that we all grew up in the same neighborhood, so there’s an instant feeling between us when we play. It allows us to be confident and spontaneous. Man, that’s priceless.”

The tour will kick off on July 27th in Woodinville, Washington and will head down the West Coast before cutting across the States to reach the East Coast. The final date is set for August 17th in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The Stray Cats Detail First LP in 26 Years, Plot World Tour

By Ryan Reed

The Stray Cats announced their first album in 26 years , 40 , and detailed a summer world tour. The long-running rockabilly trio — singer-guitarist Brian Setzer , bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom — previewed the LP with new song “Cat Fight (Over a Dog Like Me),” a trademark blast of searing guitar fills, tremolo bar swoops and hopping double-bass.

“Cat Fight” is available with pre-orders of the record. The band will release the track (along with new songs “When Nothing’s Going Right” and “Rock It Off”) as part of an exclusive, 12-inch picture disc on April 13th, Record Store Day. They will also issue an exclusive colored vinyl edition of the song on May 24th.

The Stray Cats recorded 40 with producer Peter Collins (Rush, Bon Jovi, the Brian Setzer Orchestra) at Nashville, Tennessee’s Blackbird Studios in late 2018, following their first North American shows in a decade.

“You have to understand how unique the Stray Cats are,” Setzer said in a statement. “It’s me playing an old hollow body guitar, Slim Jim playing two or three drums, and Lee Rocker slapping a stand-up acoustic bass. I get to write new songs and then play them with my buddies. Somehow we created a new and exciting sound with this simple idea. And you know what? A lot of people agree!”

Rocker enthused that 40 captures the same vibe as their debut self-titled LP from 1981. “This new album really feels like the first record we did; it’s really natural and comfortable,” he said. “For the recording, we went live –– like doing a gig, we recorded in a real, organic way. We were all in one room standing next to each other recording live, with the amps turned up to 10. It captured the undefinable things that happen when a band is great. It captured the magic that takes place and an undefined spark.”

“We’re very, very focused when we get into the studio,” added Phantom. “it didn’t feel like a long time had passed since we had done this — it felt very natural and familiar. We were all in a row with everyone watching each other, so it felt like a gig in the set-up. We really embraced that a little bit for the album –– it’s like an old way of making records. The modern is meeting the vintage, which has always been our inspiration.”

The band’s summer tour launches June 21st in Vitoria, Spain, with their international leg running through July 20th in Falun, Sweden; their U.S. leg kicks off August 3rd in Atlanta City, New Jersey and wraps August 31st in San Diego, California. Tickets for the American go on sale starting Friday, March 8th at 10 a.m. local time.

Non-profit spays and neuters over 100 stray cats in Portland metro

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - A Portland non-profit is doing its part to cut down on our local stray cat population.

They are known as PDX Cat Trapper and they specialize in rounding up cats to have them spayed and neutered.

FOX 12 tagged along with some volunteers today as they set out cages loaded up with delicious treats like tuna and cat food.

They use these cage traps to catch feral cats all around the metro area.

Once a cat is securely in its cage the group takes them to a clinic to get fixed.

Volunteers said it is important work, not just for population control but for the cats themselves.

“It’s about alleviating the suffering of these cats... the males that just wander for months and months at a time in pursuit of females, getting lost fighting getting infections,” said a volunteer. “And the females who end up having a litter in the spring, in the summer, late summer to fall. and by then they’re worn out.”

PDX Cat Trapper just exceeded its goal of spaying and neutering 100 cats in June.

By the end of June, they expect to have helped about 120 animals.
