About Your Sail

• Make your own way to Townsville Yacht club for your evening sunset cruise.
• Take a seat on deck and marvel at the views as you cruise out to sea, gliding along the UNESCO-listed coastline of the Great Barrier Reef.
• Admire the dramatic scenery of Townsville as you head out while the sun sets over the coast.
• Bring your own food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks if you wish.

Meet Big Mama, Ragamuffin 111 & Samurai

Big Mama  is a beautiful (18 m) ketch rigged yacht. Built in Bloomfield, Far North Queensland. Big

Mama is our original vessel of Big Mama Sailing, offering Half Day, Sunset Sails, Full Day and Private Charters.

Big Mama has plenty of deck space to relax in bean bags and a aft area, with plenty of shade and a comfortable upright bench chair. We provide catering

on board Big Mama and bring your beverages is welcome- we do not have a bar on board.

Ragamuffin 111 (14m) is a German Frers sloop design, a racing vessel & our smaller vessel. She is

one of Syd Fisher's famous vessels named Ragamuffin & she was number 3.  

Syd Fisher is described as one of Australia's most successful offshore sailor.

Ragamuffin 111 is a BRING YOUR OWN EVERYTHING option(beverages and nibbles- not catered).

This vessel is not suitable for small children 4 years and under, as well as guests with mobility concerns and poor fitness level or limitations.

Safety is our highest priority. 

Samurai  (18m) is a Sparkman and Stephens design, and a new addition to the Big Mama Sailing. This vessel was built in Perth by Veale Engineering and launched in 1979. We purchased  Samurai October 2023. She was quite neglected & we are proud to have restored this beautiful vessel, giving her a new lease of life on the water. Samurai, boasts of large spacious deckspace and a comfortable open planned interior. Two heads (toilet/showers) and will offer overnight adventures, as well as cater for larger private groups on her private day charters.

Magnetic Island 2 hour sunset sailing on a 60 foot yacht cruising around under a kaleidoscope sky on the Great Barrier Reef. Sit back relax with a glass of bubbles in hand and enjoy an antipasto plate of nibbles as our crew gently sails at sunset around Magnetic Island. Only 14 guests.

Join our crew of 3 sailors for an evening under the setting sun on board our 60 foot Adams Ketch sailing boat to cruise the peaceful waters of the Great Barrier Reef and Magnetic Island on our 2 hour sunset sail.

Cruising around Magnetic Island with only 14 guests our service to you will be highly personalised as we serve you a glass or two of sparkling wine or non-alcoholic beverages and wonderful antipasto platters filled with cuisine from the local farm gates around Tropical North Queensland.

Should you wish we could assist you in taking the helm yourself for a moment and try your hand at being a salty sailor on the high seas. Keeping an eye on the boats sheets above you, move the wheel to capture the winds to push the yacht along the waters of the Great Barrier Reef and around the waters of beautiful Magnetic Island.

We keep our Magnetic Island sunset cruises to minimum numbers to ensure our guests are comfortable and so that we can provide them with our undivided personal attention over our two hour sailing tour. Guests are welcome to bring along some of their own beverages as well.

This sunset cruise tour is pretty relaxed, the perfect way to wind back the day or get you in the mood before a nice dinner in a restaurant. Come along as a couple or as a single and get to know other travellers on our special Magnetic Island sunset sailing tour

• Marine Life on the Great Barrier Reef

During the months of July until late September the waters of the Great Barrier Reef are blessed by the visitation of the giant Humpback Whales who arrive in the tropical waters to mate and calve on the safe coral reef away from predators. At times the younger humpback whales will approach the reef boats and come alongside for a closer look at all the people on board and if they are feeling playful they will breach and do some belly rolls to the delight of our yachts guests. This is a favourite time of the season for us and for our guests
