A Personal Butler, Champagne and Caviar on Demand—This Is Extreme Luxury at Sea

Passengers on silversea’s newly launched ‘silver ray’ cruise ship will receive over-the-top pampering..

Sailing on the all-inclusive, luxury, 728-passenger Silver Ray from Silversea Cruises , on a four-night preview cruise from Lisbon to Cadiz, Spain and back, I experienced what opulence at sea really means, thanks in part to my dedicated butler, Rose. After learning some of my personal preferences, she pampered me with a caviar spread and poured iced champagne every evening at 5 p.m. One night, she even added a surprise lemongrass balm, turning the large glass shower in my suite into an aromatherapy retreat.

On the fourth day of the cruise, a 100-minute massage featuring four separate techniques in the ship’s Roman-themed Otium Spa (for an added cost of $400) had me feeling like I could conquer the world (I was relaxed and invigorated at the same time). Later that night, I ended up dancing around the spacious pool deck and partying like it was 1999, just like the Prince song that was played by a live band skilled in Eighties hits. It was the ultimate combination of intense relaxation followed by a healthy dose of letting loose.

Silver Ray , which officially launched on June 15, is an identical twin sister ship to Silver Nova , which made Afar’s list of world’s best cruise ships for features that include ample outdoor space and a gorgeous pool, positioned off to one side so that views of the sea and the ports you visit are uninterrupted. It conjures the spectacular pool overlooking the sea at the Four Seasons Hotel San Domenico Palace in Sicily, where the second season of the hit TV series the White Lotus was filmed . And sun worshipers will further delight in the Marquee, an open-air, pergola-covered dining area that is another “wow” feature of the new Silver Ray .

Even when inside, the focus is on bringing the outside in. The ship’s name reflects the light-filled design principle for this ultraluxe vessel, a reference to a ray of light, of which there are plenty thanks to the more than 13,123 square feet of glass, including glass elevators, incorporated into the ship design.

All onboard stay in roomy suites each with their own balcony, marbled bathroom, and butler service. The most over-the-top are the 1,324-square-foot Otium Suites complete with a wraparound balcony featuring a private whirlpool.

Go ahead, ask your butler for champagne and caviar room service delivery. Why not?

Star level drinking and dining

Beyond the beautiful design, high-touch service, and luxurious accommodations, the star of the show on the Silver Ray is S.A.L.T. (sea and land taste), a locally-focused food, drink, and culinary storytelling program that was created for Silversea four years ago and keeps getting better.

On a S.A.L.T. excursion from Lisbon, I found myself sipping award-winning wine and slurping oysters with Baron Nicholas von Bruemmer, whose Latvian grandfather founded Casal Sta. Maria in Sintra, the westernmost vineyard in Europe. Later, I learned to make Portuguese cream tarts in the S.A.L.T. Lab, a space set up with cooking stations.

I sipped Spanish gin at the S.A.L.T. Bar before dinner in the S.A.L.T. Kitchen, one of two main restaurants, where a special menu was focused on the culinary traditions of Cadiz, which was right outside the window. A S.A.L.T lecture in the main lounge impressively featured young Lisbon chef João Sá of the one Michelin-starred Sála . His enthusiasm for local product was endearing, and he shared a tasting of alheira explaining that the bready poultry sausage dates to 15th-century Portuguese Jews fleeing the Inquisition.

Sá also presented a tasty sardine dish with peppers during an exquisite 11-course pan-Mediterranean S.A.L.T. Chef’s Table dinner, prepared by the S.A.L.T. Lab culinary team for just 18 guests (priced at $180 per person).

Among the many engaging aspects of Silversea’s innovate S.A.L.T. culinary program is the opportunity to take cooking classes onboard in the S.A.L.T. Lab (pictured).

Elsewhere, the ship’s Italian restaurant, La Terrazza, is inaugurating a daily menu that focuses on contemporary Italian cuisine, while French specialty restaurant La Dame has the new option of a $160 tasting menu by French chef Jean-Luc Rabanel, famously known for his plant-focused, organic restaurant and cuisine at Le Greenstronome in Arles and for his former two-Michelin star restaurant L’Atelier in Arles.

There were also the lattes served at the centrally located Arts Café, which came with people watching in the ship’s version of town square, and champagne at The Shelter, a “hidden” champagne bar (it’s down on Deck 3) showcasing Silverseas’ new partnership with family operated Duval-Leroy, producer of fine champagne for six generations.

Food and pampering, hallmarks of the Silversea luxury experience, were delivered with aplomb on the fleet’s newest ship.

Luxury with a lesser footprint

Like its sister ship, Silver Ray is built for the future, with a hull designed to reduce friction with water to save fuel and a large-scale hybrid power source, involving a combination of liquified natural gas (LNG), marine oil, and batteries. Hydrogen fuel cells will eventually supplement the setup.

The godmother of Silver Ray , Dr. María Josefina Olascoaga, is a professor of ocean science at the University of Miami and co-runs a program with Silversea’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Group, that equips ships with oceanographic instruments to check the ocean’s vital signs. “I hope this ship will inspire its guests to connect meaningfully with the ocean,” Olascoaga said at the ship’s christening ceremony in Lisbon.

To book: Silver Ray is now cruising the Mediterranean and Greek Isles before heading to South America for the winter season (an 8-night sailing from Athens in October starts at $6,800 per person).

From Vineyard to Voyage: This Champagne Will Upgrade Your Next Luxury Cruise

Silversea's new partnership with champagne duval-leroy is a toast to the finer things in life..

silversea cruises kinder

Luxury cruise line Silversea has partnered with a prestigious champagne house to upgrade its onboard wine experience—and it isn’t your typical corporate-owned champagne brand, either.

Champagne Duval-Leroy , an independent, family-owned producer with a long history dating back to the mid-19th century, has been chosen as Silversea’s exclusive champagne provider.

Charles Duval-Leroy , marketing director at Champagne Duval-Leroy, says the initial groundwork for the partnership started six years ago, thanks to a partnership between the winery and Relais & Châteaux, which, at the time, was also a partner of Silversea. More conversations took place over the years, but the deal was formalized in 2023.

“They chose Champagne Duval-Leroy because we are a family business,” Duval-Leroy tells Observer. “It’s small, very precious. They could have chosen a more famous champagne maker, but they wanted to show something different. They chose us because we are also a small luxury brand.”

silversea cruises kinder

Champagne Duval-Leroy made its official debut with Silversea in Lisbon, Portugal during the recent inaugural voyage of the new Silver Ray , which will be sailing along the Iberian Peninsula this summer. A house champagne has always been offered on a complimentary basis aboard each of Silversea’s ships (except for the Silver Origin , on which fine sparkling wine is served) as part of the company’s all-inclusive offerings at sea. Higher-end bottles such as Krug, Louis Roederer, Bollinger, Laurent-Perrier and Dom Pérignon are available to purchase by the glass or bottle.

The house prides its commitment to sustainable practices and meticulous production methods, resulting in organic and vegan wines as no animal proteins are used in the fermentation process.

And given Champagne Duval-Leroy’s long history dating back to 1859 (essentially through the marriage of two local families—the son of the Duval family and the daughter of the Leroy family), it has earned the unofficial designation of “ Champagnes de Créateurs ,” a title awarded within the local industry for creativity in the variety of wines a house produces. Among Champagne Duval-Leroy’s creative achievements include a first-of-its-kind certified organic champagne; a single-vineyard Blanc de Blancs (made from an unusually large single plot at three hectares, grown exclusively with chardonnay); and a Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, 100 percent chardonnay champagne with fruit coming exclusively from Grand Cru, the official designation in France for the highest quality vineyards.

silversea cruises kinder

The winery and vineyards are in the heart of France’s Champagne region , near the town of Vertus, comprising more than two hundred hectares of vines, planted mainly with chardonnay on plots classified as Grand Cru or Premier Cru (a designation that varies a bit by region, but in Champagne refers to specific villages considered to produce grapes of exceptional quality).

The Brut Réserve, for instance, is matured on its lees for 30 to 36 months, and it comprises approximately 60 percent pinot noir, 30 percent pinot meunier and 10 percent chardonnay grapes. Just a tad floral with aromas of almond and toast on the nose, the Brut Réserve has flavors of citrus and fruit, such as apple and pear.

Producing a variety of champagnes that champion the French tradition while looking to the future, Champagne Duval-Leroy takes a boutique approach to production, limiting the size of its production to ensure the highest quality of its labels. The house produces approximately 1.5 million to 2 million bottles per year, on average.

For Champagne Duval-Leroy, now a sixth-generation family business, the Silversea partnership aligns with the house’s ongoing strategy to share its wines with a more discerning audience through a portfolio of travel and hospitality partners around the world. Duval-Leroy already collaborates with five-star hoteliers such as Rosewood Hotels, and it can be found on the in-flight wine lists in first and business class on several airlines, including Delta Air Lines, Air France and British Airways. But Silversea is Champagne Duval-Leroy’s first partner in the cruise industry.

silversea cruises kinder

According to Charles Duval-Leroy, who runs the company alongside his mother and two brothers , it’s about shared values, adding his family was impressed by Silversea’s focus on creating a unique and luxurious experience, with a focus on exceptional wine programs.

“I don’t know the vision of cruise lines very well. But I know the vision of Silversea. I know it’s a very American company with a European vision for the wine program,” Duval-Leroy says. “We have the same vision of luxury and pleasure.”

Silversea, known for its ultra-luxury amenities and more intimate vessels compared to some of the mega-ships under the umbrella of parent company Royal Caribbean, sees Champagne Duval-Leroy as a perfect match.

“Silversea has ‘partnered’ with very few brands, and in every case, image is paramount,” Lawrence d'Almeida , wine program manager for Silversea, tells Observer. “The process itself is varied but, of course, always based on luxury brand image synergy.”

For Silversea, this means curating a wine program that reflects their brand of ultra-luxury travel. Champagne Duval-Leroy’s focus on handcrafted, small-batch production aligns with Silversea’s desire to offer guests trips that are highly curated and unique. And this isn’t just about offering another champagne option to the wine list, either. Silversea has plans to weave Champagne Duval-Leroy into its cruise experiences worldwide. To start, guests can expect complimentary glasses of Duval-Leroy’s Brut Réserve throughout their stays as the house champagne of choice on voyages across the Silversea fleet of 12 all-suite, ultra-luxe ships.

silversea cruises kinder

“Silversea needed to find a new partnership for a variety of reasons, mostly due to availability as the fleet has been growing fast—about 200,000 bottles of complimentary champagne are consumed every year, and few champagne producers can spare those numbers to begin with—and pricing, of course,” D’Almeida says. “Credit for the bidding process should go to Silversea’s purchasing department, who did the footwork to come up with candidate champagnes.”

At this point, D’Almeida stepped in to eliminate, based purely on quality, he explains, noting that he has known of Duval-Leroy for years, but just as one among the many champagne houses. More recently, D’Almeida encountered Duval-Leroy champagnes in what he describes as more “privileged settings,” such as airline business classes and luxury hotels.

“I always favored Duval-Leroy, but the final decision was collegial, as a champagne brand partnership partakes of image and marketing as much as intrinsic quality,” D’Almeida says. “Of the two finalists, Duval-Leroy won out.”

Silversea is planning special champagne dinners, meal pairings and tastings featuring Duval-Leroy champagnes, offering guests a deeper appreciation for the brand’s nuances. For those seeking an upgrade, the Duval-Leroy Rosé Prestige Premier Cru will be offered to guests in upper suites upon embarkation. And the Duval-Leroy Femme de Champagne 2002 (which has a suggested retail price on land just over $300 per bottle ) will also be available on Silversea’s Connoisseur’s list of exceptional wines at onboard restaurants, for an additional fee.

“We love this kind of programming,” says Duval-Leroy. “Not only complimentary champagne, but also educational seminars and videos and more programming together that will really share the champagne.”

Silversea is a leader in the luxury, small-ship cruising market. These cruises typically appeal to the high-end traveler looking for personalized service, upscale dining and accommodations, access to smaller ports and a top-notch vacation experience.

If you're in the market for a high-end cruise vacation, here's everything you need to know about Silversea.

About Silversea

You won't find waterslides, kids clubs or roller coasters on a Silversea cruise.

Instead, expect an elevated experience designed for those looking for a relaxing yet entertaining sailing. Here are a few key features of Silversea cruises:

Accommodations

Every one of Silversea's cabins has an ocean view, and they're all designated as suites with a high space-to-guest ratio. For guests' needs throughout the cruise, butler service is available in every room.

Some suites are more luxurious — smaller suites only have windows overlooking the ocean, while classic veranda suites and many others come with a balcony.

Some room categories, such as the ultra-luxurious Otium Suite, are exclusive to Silversea's newest ship, Silver Nova. Others are found across the fleet, although accommodations on board each vessel may differ slightly.

All-inclusive sailings

Many cruise lines charge their passengers a base fare for the trip, allowing them to choose various add-ons — such as beverages, specialty restaurants, internet access and port excursions — for an additional cost.

Silversea does away with this. It advertises an all-inclusive cruise package, which includes everything from shore excursions and alcoholic drinks to butler service and gratuities.

Primary U.S. ports

Silversea ships span the globe, but travelers that don't want to venture too far from home will find many cruises departing from Fort Lauderdale and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Trips also depart from New York City for destinations in Canada.

Those wishing to depart from the West Coast can set sail from San Francisco or Los Angeles. Ships from these ports travel to the Caribbean, Alaska, Canada and other far-flung destinations.

Where does Silversea sail?

Silversea's destination map is extensive, with over 900 ports on all seven continents. Sailings are at least six days long, but trips can last several weeks to a month or more.

For those with the time and the money, Silversea offers World Cruises that travel from continent to continent in a global adventure that can take as many as 140 days.

How much does a Silversea cruise cost?

Silversea sailings are no discount venture, but the all-inclusive nature of each cruise adds value.

Meals, drinks, entertainment and onboard special events are all part of the price. The rates vary based on demand, destination and time of year.

There are two types of prices: "door-to-door," which includes airport transfers and airfare, or "port-to-port," which is the cruise fare without any transportation to or from the port.

Rates can vary from as low as $2,800 for a seven-day trip from Colombia to Florida to $94,700 for a 125-day expedition cruise from Chile to Norway.

Silversea also offers special fares for single travelers on select excursions, which provides a discount instead of paying the full cost of a double-occupancy cabin.

What is the best Silversea ship?

There are 13 ships in the Silversea fleet — with more scheduled for delivery in the coming years — ranging in size from 51 to 364 cabins. The best ship, however, will depend on the type of sailing you want.

The smallest ships are typically expedition ships that sail itineraries like the Galapagos or Antarctica. For example, the 100-passenger Silver Origin was Silversea's first purpose-built destination ship, built explicitly for cruising in the Galapagos. It is also the most environmentally-friendly ship built by Silversea.

Another small ship is the Silver Explorer, with a capacity for 144 guests and a strengthened hull to sail in Antarctica and the Arctic safely.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have larger ships such as Silver Spirit, which was renovated in 2018. With space for 608 passengers, it spends much of its time sailing around Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Ocean.

Ships like Silver Spirit look more like cruise ships, with amenities that include larger pools, lounges and plentiful dining options. Expedition ships are smaller by nature and therefore have fewer onboard facilities.

The best Silversea ship depends on the type of traveler you are, the destinations you want to visit, and the amenities you desire.

What is the newest Silversea ship?

Silver Nova is Silversea's newest ship, with plans to set sail later this summer. It will also be the largest ship in the Silversea fleet, with space for 728 passengers. Coming in 2024 is a second ship of the same size, the Silver Ray.

These ships feature a new asymmetrical design that gives their interiors a more spacious feel. Additionally, they'll have the largest pools in the Silversea fleet, and every suite will have a balcony.

What's included in a Silversea cruise

As mentioned above, Silversea advertises its cruises as all-inclusive, and compared to many cruise lines , this is pretty accurate. Here's what's included with all Silversea cruises:

24-hour butler service.

Complimentary beverages, including alcohol, around the ship and in minibars.

Gourmet meals, including room service and specialty restaurants.

Gratuities.

Select shore excursions.

Wi-Fi access.

Onboard lectures and entertainment.

Passengers who opt for the door-to-door all-inclusive option will also receive the following:

Private transfers to and from their home airport.

Airfare to and from the port city, including international flights.

Transfers between the ship and the airport.

Overnight hotel stays in the port city on arrival or before returning home, if needed.

A few items are not included in the fare and will incur an additional cost:

Silversea loyalty program: Venetian Society

Unlike other cruise loyalty programs, Silversea's program — the Venetian Society — does not award points. It doesn't have elite status tiers, either. Instead, members earn "days" based on the length of each sailing. The more days they accrue, the more benefits they can receive.

Here's what Venetian Society members can expect to receive based on the number of days accrued:

All members . By joining the program and completing your first sailing, you're eligible for 5% savings on certain upcoming sailings. This can represent great value on expensive cruises, meaning signing up makes sense even if you only plan to sail occasionally.

100+ days . 5% savings on all future door-to-door sailings.

250+ days . 10% savings on all future door-to-door sailings.

350 days . Once you reach this level, you are eligible for one complimentary seven-day sailing.

500 days . Reaching this milestone means enjoying a complimentary 14-day trip.

500+ days . After this landmark, members will receive one complimentary seven-day trip for each additional 150 days they sail.

How to redeem Silversea days

The best part about the Venetian Society is that the benefits are cumulative. It's not similar to a points program where once you redeem points, your balance gets lower until you earn more. With Venetian Society, you can take advantage of that perk once you hit the next milestone while enjoying previous bonuses.

For example, once you hit 350 days, you are eligible for a complimentary seven-day voyage. But, you can also take 10% off any door-to-door cruises — a perk you receive after reaching 250 days — you book after that.

Yes. Like most of its onboard amenities, Silversea cruises include basic Wi-Fi free of charge. Those in upper suites will receive free premium Wi-Fi speeds, and other guests can pay for a faster speed package. The prices vary by sailing and ship.

Yes, everything is included in the “port-to-port” fare. Adding airfare and ground transfers is part of the “door-to-door” offering.

Drinks are included in the all-inclusive fare, so no additional drink package is offered.

No, but some destinations may have their requirements. For example, there may be some destinations or embarkation points where unvaccinated travelers must provide a negative covid test, and vaccinated travelers would have to show proof of receiving the vaccine. All requirements and protocols are subject to change.

Silver nova, silver origin, silver endeavour, silver moon, silver dawn, silver muse, silver spirit, silver whisper, silver shadow, silver wind, silver cloud, silver galapagos, review of silversea cruises.

Silversea (silversea.com, 1994-founded) Is an ultra-premium travel brand and Monaco-based cruise company. With its first ship ( Silver Cloud ), Silversea pioneered as an all-inclusive passenger shipping company on May 30th (1994) when Silver Cloud was christened in Monte Carlo (Monaco) . Currently, Silversea's schedule list 900+ destinations (ports and islands) all over the world. By 2024, the brand's fleet capacity (11x vessels) will increase 56% in comparison to 2020 (pre-COVID).

Company history and changes

Until 2018, Silversea's owners were the Lefebvre family ( Rome City, Italy ) and V-Ships (fka Vlasov Group) of Monaco. Its business model was ultra-luxury cruising with smaller-sized all-suite ships.

In June-July 2018, RCG-Royal Caribbean Group acquired 2/3 of the company. On June 14, 2018, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (RCCL) and Manfredi Lefebvre D'Ovidio (Silversea's majority stock owner) announced an agreement for RCCL to acquire 66,7% equity stake in Silversea or purchase price ~USD 1 billion. At the time, the company was valued at approx USD 2 billion. RCCL financed the deal (through debt) in October. In addition to the cash money, the Lefebvre family received around 472,000 RCL shares. Silversea kept the company's management team led by Roberto Martinoli (President and CEO between 2016-2022).

In January 2023-March 2024, Silversea's President and CEO was Barbara Muckermann (promoted from CCO/Chief Commercial Officer) while Roberto Martinoli was appointed Senior Advisor to RCG's President and CEO. In April 2024, Barbara Muckermann was succeeded by Bert Hernandez (with RCG since 2004).

In May 2023 was appointed Mark Conroy as a Senior Advisor to Silversea's Global Sales department led by Massimo Brancaleoni (Senior VP), while Joe Leon was promoted to Managing Director for the Americas. Until 2023, Mark Conroy served as Silversea's Managing Director for the Americas. In the past, Mark Conroy held senior positions at Dimond Cruises (ship Radisson Diamond/1992-built, IMO 9008407) and RSSC-Regent Seven Seas Cruises and has also served as Renaissance Cruises's President and Royal Viking Line's VP of Sales.

In May 2024 was appointed Martin Froggatt as VP of Global Tour Operations. Previously employed by Abercrombie & Kent, he reports directly to Silversea's President.

Silversea Cruises logo - CruiseMapper

On August 1, 2018, after receiving regulators' final approval, the acquisition deal was officially closed. RCCL owns 66,7%, while Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio owns 33,3% stake and remains the company's Executive Chairman. Following the acquisition was announced the "Project Invictus" - a multi-year fleetwide project for drydock refurbishments and product enhancements. The project's first enhancements started with Silver Muse (August 19, 2018) with upgraded champagne and caviar offerings. Next were scheduled for upgrades Silver Whisper and Silver Wind ((December 2018). All liners in the fleet will be updated taking inspiration from the flagship Silver Muse . In July 2020, RCCL-Royal Caribbean Group purchased Silversea's remaining shares from Heritage Cruise Holding Ltd. The purchase was in the form of 5,2 million RCL shares (~2,5% of Royal Caribbean's total common stock).

Celebrating the company's 25th Anniversary in 2019, Silversea ships accumulated 47800+ cruising days and served passengers with 9,4+ million cruise days.

Since the beginning, the company's all-inclusive fares included port charges, travel insurance, gratuities (none were allowed), one or more shore events (excursions) per cruise itinerary and beverages (selected wines at lunch and dinner). Most (around 80%) of the brand's clients were expected to come from North America, so the line established its marketing office in Fort Lauderdale FL .

The Fleet's first vessel ( Silver Cloud ) entered service in April 1994, followed by sistership Silver Wind in January 1995. In September 2000 was launched Silver Shadow . Silver Whisper debuted in January 2001.

In 2008, Silversea entered the luxury expedition travel market by purchasing the ship Prince Albert II (Society Expeditions-owned) and upgrading it to the industry's highest standards.

  • The reconstructed vessel ( Silver Explorer ) was inaugurated in June 2008 for exotic itineraries (Arctic, Antarctica, Western Africa safari cruisetours) and Zodiac boat expeditions for wildlife viewing.
  • In January 2021, Silversea announced that the 33-years-old Silver Explorer is sold and in September 2023 leaves the fleet. The ship will be operated by Exploris (Paris France-based new cruise brand) starting operations in December (2023).

On June 18, 2012, was announced that Silversea had acquired Canodros SA - Ecuadorian luxury tour company operating cruises in Galapagos Islands . The deal included former Renaissance ship Galapagos Explorer II (renamed in 2013 to Silver Galapagos ). The 100-passenger ship was deployed year-round in the Galapagos Islands (through 2020 when was sold). The 3rd expedition ship "Silver Discoverer" joined "Silversea Expeditions" fleet in March 2014 for itineraries in Micronesia, Melanesia, Polynesia, Russian Far East, Australia New Zealand. The chartered vessel has a glass-bottom tour boat, Zodiacs (large motorized boats used for landings), snorkeling and dive program (with complimentary equipment). In May 2019, Silver Discoverer was sold to CroisiEurope , joining the fleet in 2020-Q1 under the name La Belle des Oceans .

In 2017, Silversea started selling bonds to the public to finance the company's business. The plan was to raise USD 550 million (up from the originally-planned USD 275M). Senior secured notes (due in 2025) paid interest at 7,25% rate.

In June 2017 was announced the company's partnership with Peninsula Hotels ( Hong Kong -based hotel chain). Silversea's new "cruise and hotel" program debuted on Silver Muse (during World Cruise 2019). Both brands collaborate only on Asian itineraries. During these voyages, Peninsula Hotels provides chefs and specialists to interact with passengers and arrange exclusive onboard events in select Asian port cities.

In August 2018 was launched the travel blog Discover (discover.silversea.com). There are posted itinerary-themed mini-documentaries and behind-the-scenes videos themed on the world's most unique cultures and lifestyles, rare geographical phenomena, unusual landscapes, wildlife, topics on glaciology-botany-ornithology-marine biology, useful travel skills, expert photography tips, as well as specially produced for Silversea photos and videos and original stories by company's Expedition Experts.

In May 2019, CroisiEurope (one of Europe's largest river cruise companies ) announced the acquisition of Silver Discoverer (1989-built). Joining CroisiEurope's fleet in 2020-Q1, the ship will be renamed La Belle des Oceans . The French company currently owns one sea-going vessel - the 2007-built La Belle de l'Adriatique .

In late-July 2019, Silversea announced a partnership deal with the French company Lalique (1888-founded in Paris France). The brand specializes in the production of lead glass/crystal (including vases and perfume bottles) and luxury crystal art. For Silversea, Lalique will produce decorative glass artworks (hand-crafted crystal panels) for fleet's La Dame restaurants (capacity ~40 seats each). The Lalique artworks are positioned at the restaurant's entrance and also along the walls. The crystal panels incorporate 2 main aquatic-themed designs - Masque de Femme (a nymph surrounded by marine creatures) and Coutard (a spray of water droplets).

In 2019 (August 10 through September 5), Silver Explorer completed the company's first " Northwest Passage Cruise " from Alaska ( Nome AK ) to Europe ( Tromso Norway ). The 26-day voyage included ~9260 km of sea navigation and visiting 27 ports and destinations on 2 continents and in 3 countries. During the passage through the Canadian Arctic, the cruise ship was escorted by a CCG icebreaker . On the ship were 15 expedition team crew (including historians, geologists, botanists, marine biologists, ornithologists, professional photographers) presenting ~50 itinerary-themed onboard lectures.

In mid-June 2022 was announced that the 2021-built Crystal Endeavor was acquired by Silversea (via RCG). The megayacht was scheduled to enter drydock for refurbishing and rebranding, to be renamed (Silver Endeavour) and added to Silversea's Antarctica 2022-2023 program. On June 8th, Silversea trademarked the ship names "Silver Endeavor" and "Silver Endeavour". Crystal Endeavor's purchase was confirmed by RCG on July 18th.

In March 2024, the Door-to-Door (all-inclusive pricing) was expanded with two more options:

  • "Door-to-Door All-Inclusive Fare" - encompasses private land transfers (home-airport-hoe, international flights/Business Class upgrades at reduced rates, land tours/shore excursions)
  • (new) "Port-to-Port All-Inclusive Fare" (includes shore excursions) targets tourists who prefer to independently plan their pre- and post-cruise travel arrangements.
  • (new) "Essential Fare" is a cruise-only fare (inclusive of all onboard amenities and services except land tours) allowing tourists to independently arrange their flights, land transfers and shore excursions.

In June 2024, RCG launched the Loyalty Status Match program allowing loyalty members from each brand (RCI’s Crown & Anchor Society, Celebrity’s Captain’s Club, and Silversea’s Venetian Society) to attain reciprocal tier status across all brands.

In the late-2000s, Silversea started a fleet-expansion program adding tonnage through newbuilds.

Silversea new ship (aerial) Dawn and Moon

In December 2009, the company launched the 540-passenger Silver Spirit . In 2017 was launched the 596-passenger Silver Muse (building cost EUR 105 million / USD 125M) - Silver Spirit modified design.

On September 11, 2017, was signed a EUR 310 million (USD 370M) shipbuilding contract with Fincantieri for 3 new cruise ships - including Silver Moon , with scheduled delivery in 2020. Currently, Silversea has a fleet of 9 operational vessels, with a planned expansion up to 12 units. The last two newbuilds are the Silver Nova (2023) and Silver Ray (2024).

Silversea new ship (EVOLUTION class) Nova and Ray

When the Silversea-Fincantieri deal for Silver Moon was signed (September 2017), the Italian shipbuilder had a total of 78x cruise vessels (built in the period 1990-2017, of which 55x between 2002-2017) plus other 31x currently being designed or constructed.

On May 14, 2018. was signed the Silversea-Fincantieri order for Silver Dawn (November 2021).

In October 2018, RCG announced shipbuilding agreements for all 3 new boats for Silversea. The MoU (with Meyer Werft Germany) included 3 new (EVOLUTION Class) ships with first delivery in 2022. The 3rd contract was signed with Shipyard De Hoop (Holland) for building Silver Origin . The new ship serves Silversea Expeditions' Galapagos Islands cruisetour program previously served by Silver Galapagos . Silver Origin entered service in May 2021 (originally planned for March 2020). In December 2020, RCG sold Silver Galapagos to an undisclosed buyer.

Ship refurbishments

In August 2016, Silversea announced the company's plans to invest USD 170 million in a fleetwide drydock refurbishment project. Ship upgrades started in 2016 with 3 ships.

  • Silver Whisper had refreshed suites (dark emperor marble floors in cabin bathrooms, sun deck (new loungers, newly tiled pool). The Restaurant and La Terrazza are with new furniture and flooring (hardwood parquet/carpet). Two new satellite antennas provide faster Internet. On-demand movies and interactive TVs were added in all cabins.
  • Silver Wind received the same upgrades as Silver Whisper - all cabins, restaurants, ship technology. The pool deck has all new teak decking.
  • Silver Cloud was refitted into a polar expedition ship.

Silversea's travel experience

As a travel brand, Silversea provides an upscale, yet casual onboard atmosphere, bigger-than-average public spaces, 5-star service by professionally trained staff.

Extraordinary dining experiences are available on all Silversea ships, with wine poured generously at meals. The all-inclusive policy covers all gratuities and unlimited beverages - beer, wine, liquor, and soft drinks, except premium brands.

There are lecturers on all voyages, offering insights into the cultures of the destinations visited. Sometimes Silversea provides a bridge instructor or a golf pro for lessons at the practice nets on each ship. However, partly as a function of relatively low passenger capacity, few educational opportunities are available. Each of Silversea Cruises ships has a well-stocked library, a fitness center, and a Steiner-managed spa.

Meals in the main dining room are served open seating, with lunch available between 12:00 and 1:30 p.m., and dinner at any time between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Alternative dinner is available at 7 p.m. in La Terrazza, free of charge (reservations are required) and in the upscale Le Champagne between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Le Champagne applies a $200/$30 charge, which depends on the chosen dining option ($200 is for a multi-course degustation menu with wine pairings).

IMPORTANT: As there are no organized kids programs, Silversea ships are inappropriate for families with young kids.

Silversea passengers are generally, as on most small luxury ships, somewhat older than those found on bigger, mainstream vessels. In terms of nationality, about 50% are North Americans, with the other 50% coming from all over the world (mainly the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia). Many travelers are retirees with the resources and leisure to make Silversea their line of choice.

Perhaps because they provide the space for more facilities (cigar bar, wine bar, computer center, expanded spa, not to mention larger and better-equipped show lounge), Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow attract a younger clientele. Still, Silversea is not the cruise line for the 20- and 30-something travelers.

For season 2016-2017, Silversea Expeditions partnered with Technogym for selected Wellness-themed cruises. By this partnership, on all Silversea expedition vessels were offered fitness and wellness-themed onboard events and complimentary amenities and services, including spa treatments, classes (Yoga, Pilates, fitness), enrichment lectures, healthy cooking demos gym sessions (with personal trainers and Technogym equipment).

Since January 2019, Silversea upgraded fleetwide company's in-cabin TV programming by adding 2 new channels - National Geographic (NatGeo / science-travel documentaries) and Sport 24 (live sports events).

Since March 30, 2022, Silversea offers to all customers as standard (ticket price-inclusive) private executive transfers.

  • The offer is part of the July 2021-signed partnership between Silversea and Blacklane GmbH (Berlin-based global chauffeur service provider / via mobile app-website-phone).
  • The partnership deal was signed by Roberto Martinoli (Silversea's CEO) and Jens Wohltorf (Blacklane's CEO).
  • All passengers are provided complimentary with the option of being collected (by a private chauffeured vehicle) from their homes and transferred to their local airport (located up to 50 mi / 80 km away) or directly to the cruise ship. The same service is also offered on return journeys.
  • Silversea's private chauffeur transfers are available in 200+ cities in 50+ countries.

(NEW) Otium wellness program

In October 2021 Silversea announced the brand's wellness program "Otium", with planned inauguration in 2022 on the newbuild Silver Dawn . The program is inspired by the patricians' lifestyle in Ancient Rome, providing customized leisure time experiences.

  • Otium Sleeping (Italy-manufactured premium Egyptian cotton linens, custom-made mattresses and pillows)
  • Otium Bathing (walk-in showers, bathtubs, plush bathrobes, bath salts and candles, personalized playlists/your-choice music, in-cabin dining /caviar canapes, chocolate truffles, champagne)
  • Otium Balcony (cashmere blankets, gourmet bites and appetizers, cocktails and hot beverages, misting system, sun creams) - on the cabins' balconies
  • Otium Comfort Food (24-hour premium dining options, movie nights with gourmet popcorn, pre-dinner drinks)
  • Otium Spa (enhanced spa treatments and massages menu, services by wellness experts, in-spa dining/wine-champagne and gourmet snacks)

Otium is an abstract term meaning temporary "leisure time" during which a person can enjoy food, games, resting, contemplation, intellectual discussions.

Cruise ship W-Fi and Internet

Since April 2018, all Silversea ships offer free and unlimited Wi-Fi access - regardless of cabin category. Previously (between January 2016 - April 2018) Silversea customers received 1 hour of complimentary Wi-Fi per day.

By the new policy, Silversea provides each standard suite passenger with free and unlimited Internet access. Booking larger suites (Silver to Owner grades) offers free and unlimited internet for up to 2 mobile devices pp (simultaneously). Unlimited premium internet package upgrades are also offered.

In August 2022, the shipowner RCG-Royal Caribbean Group signed a deal with SpaceX/Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (2002-founded by Elon Musk) for using Starlink's satellites to provide faster and low-latency Internet connections across the global fleet (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, and Silversea ships). Fleetwide Starlink installations were scheduled to be completed in 2023-Q1.

Antarctica Bridge bookings were opened on December 10, 2019, with fares from USD 17,500 per person (with double occupancy).

The 1240 km long flight is over Drake Passage and on a Silversea-chartered plane adapted to land on King George Island. An in-flight entertainment program includes information briefings on the Zodiacs (cruise ship's high-speed boats used for landings) and IAATO (International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators). After the first flight follows 5 full Antarctica cruising days.

Airport-hotel transfers and luggage services are complimentary if the international flights are booked through Silversea.

(Coronavirus crisis) passenger shipping pause 2020-2021

Due to the COVID pandemic, RCG suspended its entire fleet's passenger shipping operations (RCI-Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Silversea, Azamara) worldwide by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 13, 2020, through June 2021.

Silversea Galapagos 2021 program restarted on June 19 (Silver Origin).

Silversea Alaska 2021 program restarted on July 29 ((Silver Muse).

Changing the FCC to a monetary refund (100%) must be done by December 31, 2020.

Silversea's Cancellation Policy was extended to allow penalty-free cancellations up to 48 hours prior departure (all itineraries departing up until December 1, 2020, and receive an FCC.

With a fleet of 9 vessels, the company is also the dominant player on the Mediterranean luxury cruising market, especially during summer months. The second biggest by passenger capacity line is Crystal Cruises (Los Angeles USA-based). The third biggest luxury line is RSSC-Regent Seven Seas , followed closely by Seabourn .

  • Silversea's "flight and cruise" package deals (by the line's Silver Sky program) are inclusive of the luxury cruise fare, discount round-trip airfare (Economy Class) and airport-pier-airport transfers.

Beyond the Numbers: Silversea’s Three Oceans World Cruise 2027

  • Silver Dawn
  • World cruise 2027
  • Three Oceans World Cruise 2027

Numbers tell a fascinating story about Silversea’s recently announced World Cruise 2027 :  149 days, 80 destinations, 50 UNESCO World Heritage sites, 35 countries, five continents. For sure, the statistics are breathtaking on their own, but add a range of programs and special events, and the stage is set for nearly five months of immersive experiences and adventures that enrich and elevate guests’ journey on The Three Oceans World Cruise 2027 on Silversea.

The journey will call in more destinations than any voyage in Silversea’s history, says Bert Hernandez, president, Silversea. Traveling on the 596-passenger Silver Dawn, guests will “discover the very best experiences in ultra-luxury cruise travel,” Hernandez adds.

Indeed, Silver Dawn features Silversea’s popular S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) program, which connects menus and shore adventures with the regions in which guests are traveling. On this journey, guests can indulge in 350 dishes that reflect the tastes of their locale. Of course, S.A.L.T. Bar also will be part of that regional focus, offering 50 cocktails that impart a sense of place. Those who want to deepen their knowledge further can absorb a wealth of knowledge on 25 S.A.L.T. shore excursions, from 50 S.A.L.T. lectures and in 50 S.A.L.T. Lab classes.

The Dawn also features s the OTIUM spa, which celebrates indulgence and wellness.

Gaining a world view in new ways

Departing Jan. 8, 2027, from Los Angeles, guests will find those experiences in such destinations as Hawaii, French Polynesia, American Samoa, Melanesia and New Caledonia before Silver Dawn heads to Brisbane, Australia, and circles northward to Asian ports, some new, and some familiar. Then it turns south, eventually tracing a path around the southernmost piece of the African continent. Next? Silver Dawn heads up Africa’s western coast, reaching the Iberian Peninsula before heading for the U.K. and Ireland and on to Scandinavia, where the journey ends June 7 in Copenhagen.

What’s new for 2027’s Three Oceans World Cruise?

Travelers can try to spot the Big 5 in South Africa, cruise the Norwegian fjords, which offer a trifecta of landscapes, brilliantly green peaks and thundering waterfalls; swim above the Great Barrier Reef, revered for its beauty and the habitats it provides; rest and rejuvenate in Bora Bora’s famed overwater bungalows, where the tides will lull you to sleep World Cruise 2027 also offers the luxury of exploring destinations in extraordinary ways. Among them:

A S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) Culinary Experience in Sri Lanka: This country has absorbed the best of the cuisines and cultures that have been woven into its rich fabric. A S.A.L.T experience not only allows you to sample the result of the culinary triumph but also allows you to participate in its creation with interactive demonstrations that unlock the secrets of a feast that you will want to replicate.

Livingstone’s Legacy: David Livingstone, a Scottish explorer and missionary, led the way in opening Africa to the rest of the world. Thwarted by unrest in China, where he hoped to live and work, he chose Africa, arriving in March 1841 in South Africa and making discovery after discovery for the next 15 years. In 1855, he traveled to what became known as Victoria Falls. This two-night optional excursion gives guests a ringside seat to a misty spectacle that commands awe and draws respect from all who are enchanted by their power and thunder.

Hawaiian Treasures: You will be introduced to the wonders of the hoku (stars) in Hawaii, which not only put on a dazzling light show for all to see but also will be preceded by a special celebration honoring the Polynesian navigators who developed a way to navigate by the stars. You’ll eat delicious fare from an imu, an inground oven that has allowed, for centuries, the cooking and steaming of such dishes as kalua pig, taro, chicken, fish, sweet potatoes and breadfruit. The flavor of its dishes is unrivaled in its moistness and delicately smoky flavor.

Harmonies of the Emerald Isle: Belfast Cathedral, also known as the Church of St. Anne, is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. It will be the setting for a taste of local cuisine in a special Silversea event that will also include choral music. The first part of this Romanesque building was the nave, which was consecrated in June 1904. The church’s grand arches celebrate distinguished members, and the pillars pay heed to shipbuilding, linen, the arts and womanhood, among other topics.

2027’s Three Oceans World Cruise has three segments

World cruises typically are designed in segments . Each one of the three segments in our 2027 Three Oceans World Cruise is wrapped around a theme of discovery that includes a host of experiences, including visits UNESCO World Heritage sites, averaging one visit every three days of the voyage. Those travelers whose schedules don’t permit them a full world cruise can still experience its essence by just booking a segment or two. More specifics? Read on.

Segment 1: An Ocean of Time: The Pacific Ocean

silversea cruises kinder

The first leg of the voyage takes you from Los Angeles to destinations you think you know, but on Silversea, you’ll find quite a different lens through which you’ll view a trip whose first leg will dock 46 days later in Brisbane, Australia.

In Hawaii, for instance, guests can visit Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that’s home to the one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. Further, guests will learn about the mysterious Polynesian seafarers at an event that delves into the mysteries of how they navigated vast areas of the Pacific. A ho’olaule’a , or celebration, in Honolulu focuses on authentic fare and allows guests to contemplate just how those early Polynesians knew so much about the world.

silversea cruises kinder

The next phase of the trip takes you to Rangiroa, Moorea, and Bora Bora, all in French Polynesia and Samoa on Upolu, the second largest island in Samoa’s chain. Silver Dawn also calls at Lautoka on the island of Viti Levu, Fiji, the largest island in a country that includes more than 840 islands and islets and where temperatures in winter rarely dip below the 60s.

Guests can celebrate Champagne Beach in Vanuatu (“Our Land Forever”), a country that’s been independent since 1980. What will have you bubbling: This is the place you envision when you dream – think crystalline waters and baby-fine sand – of the ideal idyll.

After a stop in Lifou Island, the largest of the Loyalty Islands in the country of New Caledonia, you’ll be heading for Australia and its varied faces and places: Arlie Beach in the Whitsundays region; Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory; and Brisbane, the third largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland, which will give you another taste of the tropics and an opportunity to get to know the Great Barrier Reef, just off its coast.

Segment 2: An Ocean of Life: The Indian Ocean

silversea cruises kinder

The second segment of World Cruise 2027 embraces the magical and the mystical, including a stop in Bali, east of Indonesia’s Java, and Semarang, on the northern coast of Java, a place of temples and statues of Buddha. Contrast that contemplative spot with a stop in Singapore, the city-state on the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and the largest port in Southeast Asia. The title of long-serving Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew’s book, “From Third World to First: The Singapore Story, 1965-2000” chronicles a transformation that remains a marvel.

Nature again takes center stage, this time in Praslin, Seychelles, called the “green pearl of the Indian Ocean.” It’s known for Vallée de Mai Nature Reserve, or Mai Valley National Park, a UNESCO site that overflows with colorful flowers and plants that are unique to this island.

Before 1972, Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon, and Colombo, its capital, has been crisscrossed by maritime visitors throughout the ages, including Arabs, Portuguese, Dutch and British. Today the country is a colorful tapestry of cuisines and cultures.

silversea cruises kinder

At a call in Réunion, South Africa, part of the Mascarene Islands (a French overseas department) in the western Indian Ocean, you’ll hear French spoken widely – it was a French colony until 1946 but today is an overseas département of France.

The adventure continues to escalate on a two-day trip from Durban, South Africa, to Port Elizabeth, now called Gqeberha, as guests are introduced to Victoria Falls, which span the breadth of the Zambezi River at the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The breathtaking spectacle drops about 33,000 cubic feet of water per second. To put that in perspective, if a small bathtub holds 4 cubic feet of water, guests will see the equivalent of 8,250 bathtubs of water plunge over the falls every second.

Segment 3: An Ocean of Discovery: The Atlantic Ocean

silversea cruises kinder

Guests will be introduced to a host of fascinating destinations after Cape Town, including Namibia, whose landscape includes desert, mountains and savannas; Angola,  the largest of the Portuguese-speaking countries and blessed with abundant natural resources, including oil; Ghana, formerly a  British colony once called the Gold Coast for its cache of the precious metal and today, rich with natural beauty; and the Gambia, Africa’s  smallest, non-island country known for its beaches and said to be the place from which Kunta Kinte, from Alex Haley’s “Roots,” originated.

Dakar, the national capital of Senegal on the Cape Verde Peninsula, is a hub for West Africa, and although the government plans to move the capital in the coming years, Dakar will remain a popular tourist destination, thanks to its melange of cultures, and its gorgeous beaches.

The Canary Islands and Morocco will be featured prominently in the next segment of travel. Guests will visit Praia, capital of Cabo Verde, a country made up of islands that are nearly 400 miles off Africa;  Arrecife, the main port of Lanzarote Island in the Canary Islands; and Agadir and Casablanca, Morocco, a place forever imprinted in movie-lovers’ minds. A stop in Lisbon, Portugal’s capital and the westernmost capital city in continental Europe, shows off the country’s ascendance as a favorite destination, thanks to the weather, its beaches, its castles and, of course, its fado music.

silversea cruises kinder

At Belfast, Northern Ireland, Silversea guests can attend a musical performance in the Romanesque Cathedral, where its stained glass windows and needlework (including kneelers) reflect both its style and simplicity.

World Cruise 2027 winds up in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital and home to Tivoli, which is called an amusement park but will give  visitors a generous dose of culture, including musicals, ballet and concerts, as well as a generous helping of botanic beauty that makes it wholly and wonderfully different from the U.S. playgrounds and their mousey mascots.

It is 149 days later, not quite half a year! And certainly enough memories for a lifetime.

And wait! There’s more

silversea cruises kinder

A big part of the allure of a Silversea World Cruise are the special events that provide more context to the places you’re visiting. A team of destination experts design and implement these special events.

“ We love off-the-beaten-path locales that allow us to produce experiences our guests won’t find anywhere else,” Kevin McKeon, Silversea’s experiences and events manager, tells me.

World Cruise 2027, for instance, will focus on the Polynesian Seafarers and invite guests to join in on a what McKeon called a “cultural and culinary journey where, as guests dine, we lead through a reading of the stars,” which Polynesians believed spoke a “language” that communicated how to navigate the waters. They used no maps or charts in those long-ago days but memorized the position of stars to ensure successful and safe passage to and through the 62 million square miles of the Pacific Ocean. Ingenuity and innovation opened the way for travelers for generations to come.

silversea cruises kinder

McKeon also is excited about an overland trip to Victoria Falls. “The ability to take our guests deeper into southern Africa,” he says, “and immerse them in nature, the way [Scottish explorer] Stanley Livingstone found it, presents a great opportunity to deliver on our mission of ‘Traveling Deeper in Luxury.’ The experience includes two nights in luxury accommodations, sunset river cruises along the Zambezi River and memorable dining experiences await our World Cruise guests.

Producing such special events is never easy, McKeon acknowledges, but he and Jannie Cloete, the director of Silversea events and experiences, make it look that way, thanks to hard work, countless hours and millions of details woven into the creation of  these once-in-a-lifetime events.

“I often think about my second day on the job at Silversea, meeting Jannie at ‘Opera in the Quarry’ in a limestone quarry outside of Cape Town, South Africa,” McKeon recalls. “The scale, attention to detail and Jannie’s delivery of the event demonstrated to me that Silversea truly is the leader in experiential travel.

“It set me on this course, and  I’ve never looked back.”

5 best Silversea Cruises destinations

Janice Wald Henderson

Ultraluxury line Silversea Cruises offers a jaw-dropping array of worldwide destinations on both classic — as the line calls its traditional cruise ships — and expedition vessels. Initially, Silversea was the only luxury line offering both voyage styles; perhaps its success led the way for others, such as Viking and Seabourn, which have followed.

Between its classic and expedition vessels, Silversea features more than a dozen ships visiting more than 900 destinations across all seven continents. Among classic cruise destinations, Silversea maintains a strong presence in Europe , especially in the Mediterranean . (Company headquarters are in Monaco.) It also sails the British Isles and Northern Europe from spring into late fall, and its Canada and New England leaf-peeping cruises generate much buzz in the autumn months.

Come winter, ships head to the always-sunny Caribbean , as well as summery Australia, New Zealand, South America and Asia.

Silversea caters to travelers looking for extra-long sailings to multiple destinations. The line offers a limited number of "combination cruises," where itineraries combine two or three cruises into one for in-depth regional exploration.

Grand Voyages, its next-longest options, can run from 59 to 131 days. The ultimate in destination-bagging, world cruises are the longest itineraries on offer and run once per year; for example, the 137-day voyage in 2025 departs from Tokyo and visits 59 ports across 30 countries — including Turkey, Italy, Sweden, India, Saudi Arabia and Greenland — before ending in New York. (The 2024 world cruise is already sold out.)

Silversea's expedition vessels seek more-remote locales. Three ships — Silver Cloud, Silver Endeavour ( formerly Crystal Endeavor ) and Silver Wind — extensively explore the Arctic and Antarctica during polar seasons. Silver Origin, custom-built to sail the Galapagos, cruises in the wildlife-rich islands year-round with just 100 passengers. Meanwhile, 144-passenger Silver Explorer spends much of its time in Australia's Kimberley region and also in the South Pacific islands.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

When not sailing polar regions, Silversea's expedition vessels venture literally to every country permitted, from the American West Coast and the Indian Ocean to the South Pacific and South America.

The line's first expedition Grand Voyage in 2024 is a 125-day cruise on Silver Wind, sailing from the South Pole to the North Pole, offering the best of both Antarctica and the Arctic. Along the way, it will call on major highlight cities — Lisbon, London, Buenos Aires and Reykjavik, for example — across several continents.

With Silversea offering most of the world on a silver platter, the challenge becomes choosing a sole destination. Here, we offer five regions where Silversea consistently shines, promising a cruise meeting — if not exceeding — anyone's idea of a dream vacation.

Galapagos Islands

silversea cruises kinder

Silversea is a longtime player in the Galapagos ; now-retired Silver Galapagos began cruising there in 2013. The more polished 100-passenger Silver Origin, Silversea's first destination-specific ship, debuted in 2021 and sails between the islands year-round. All-suite accommodations with ocean-view showers, butlers for all guests, an interactive base camp, Ecuadorian cooking classes and a stargazing platform set this expedition ship apart from the exploratory pack.

Most cruises are seven days long, sailing round-trip from San Cristobal, Ecuador, and visiting Floreana and Santa Cruz among the isles. During the December holidays, 10- and 11-day voyages make onboard celebrating relaxed and easy, and 14-day cruises are ideal for travelers wanting a full two-week experience.

silversea cruises kinder

With two Silversea expedition ships — Silver Cloud and Silver Wind — cruising the Arctic , you can count on plenty of choice in this rugged, bucket list destination. The 254-passenger twin expedition vessels deliver a multitude of itineraries and voyage lengths from late May through early October.

Options include full circumnavigations of Svalbard that last more than a week and Northwest Passage crossings that can stretch more than three weeks. Some nine-day cruises are Greenland exclusive, while some of the longer sailings explore Canadian islands, such as Lower Savage, with opportunities to spot polar bears. These voyages allow passengers to learn about Inuit culture by visiting local attractions like the Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum, with its impressive collection of local and regional Inuit artifacts and artwork.

silversea cruises kinder

Silversea now devotes three posh expedition ships — Silver Cloud, Silver Endeavour and Silver Wind — to Antarctica from late October until late March, making it a major regional player. (Veteran polar vessel Silver Explorer now focuses on the South Pacific, such as Australia's Kimberley.)

Silver Endeavour possesses a PC6 ice-class rating, one of the industry's highest, and advanced exploration technology, including a remotely operated underwater vehicle and a remote gimbal camera system.

Silversea offers two styles of Antarctic voyages . The quickest, dubbed Antarctica Bridge , usually run six days. Passengers skip the potentially rough waters of the Drake Passage by flying directly to King George Island (the largest of all the South Shetland Islands) from Punta Arenas, Chile. From there, it's just two hours by ship to the Antarctic Peninsula for immediate polar gratification. Some nine-day Antarctica Bridge sailings are offered, too; they also bypass the Drake and provide more Antarctic exploration time.

Antarctic cruises sailing the Drake Passage cruise round-trip from Puerto Williams, Chile, and run from 10 to 18 days. These longer, more comprehensive cruises can include three days in the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Island or Elephant Island.

Mediterranean

silversea cruises kinder

Silversea claims the Med as its home base and plies its waters accordingly. The line delivers access to both tiny ports and big hitters so passengers can experience an authentic Mediterranean cruise , either in classic or expedition style.

The fleet's classic ships are magnets for luxe-loving cruisers; the arrival of Silver Ray in 2024 means Silversea will soon have six classic ships and one expedition vessel in the region.

Count on diverse itineraries and cruise lengths, with many voyages spanning 10 or 11 days. Look for more off-the-beaten-path ports, not just marquee cities. Ships might stop in Giardini Naxos, Sicily; Bari, Italy; Casablanca, Morocco (with cool excursions like lunch at Rick's Cafe, from the iconic film); or Collioure on the south coast of France, where you'll have a chance to visit medieval Carcassonne.

When Silversea ships visit glam, big-name ports, they go beyond offering just the typical shore excursions featured on other lines' vessels — perhaps, in part, because many Silversea cruisers have already been to top European cities and are looking for something more.

In Monaco's Monte Carlo, this luxe line provides flightseeing over the Cote d'Azur and explorations of Dolceacqua, Italy, a beautifully preserved medieval town in Liguria at France's border. When a ship visits Livorno, Italy, passengers can go truffle-hunting, sip Super Tuscan wines or embark on a S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste) shore excursion, savoring an Italian barbecue feast with fine wine in the Tuscan hills.

Even Silversea's expedition ships indulge in Med time, although with a smaller footprint. These cruises will unfold differently than on classic ships, with an emphasis on remote towns and villages.

Expect an expedition team of experts in fields like history to lead many of the outings. Passengers might engage in active pursuits like hikes and Zodiac rides. For example, on a Silver Cloud cruise from Athens to Lisbon, passengers visit Tunisia and Algeria, venturing to seaside ports with 16th-century mosques, old casbahs and Spanish fortresses.

Australia and New Zealand

silversea cruises kinder

Silversea dives deep into South Pacific offerings, with five classic ships and two expedition vessels presenting itineraries to a whopping 150 destinations.

Cruises hovering around two weeks — such as those between Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney or Melbourne in Australia — are plentiful. Many home in on New Zealand's pristine splendors, visiting beckoning ports like Dunedin and Wellington. Ships also stop in Hobart, Tasmania, where more than a dozen excursions await passengers.

Classic itineraries covering more of Australia include a 17-day trip from Singapore to Brisbane on Silver Muse, including ports like Cairns to view the Great Barrier Reef or join a rainforest journey. In Darwin, Australia's capital of the north, head out on the Adelaide River to look for jumping crocodiles.

Silver Muse also sails a fascinating route between Cairns, Australia, and Auckland, visiting the Great Barrier Reef; Noumea, New Caledonia's capital; and remote Mystery Island in Vanuatu. Expect to choose between several excursions from New Zealand's Bay of Islands.

For adventuresome cruisers, Silver Cloud offers multiple expeditions between late May and early September in Australia's unspoiled Kimberley, primarily sailing 10 days between Darwin and Broome. This fascinating western Australia region features horizontal waterfalls (not a typo), saltwater and freshwater crocodiles, and rock art that possibly dates back 40,000 years.

Bottom line

Silversea presents an eye-popping array of both far-flung and close-to-home itineraries for traditional cruising or adventuring in utmost luxury. Expect a significant focus on Arctic and Antarctic itineraries for expedition ships, with Galapagos cruises year-round. Classic ships offer close-to-home fall foliage, Alaska and Caribbean voyages, yet also venture globally, with an emphasis on Europe from spring to fall and Asia, South America, Australia and New Zealand in our winter.

Silver Whisper - Moscow Tour

Cool Cruiser

We are on the Baltic Cruise August 19-26; because of our schedule Silversea is NOT OFFERING the one-day trip to Moscow as it needs to be on Thursday (our only full day in St. Petersburg) and the Kremlin is closed then. However, I contacted the exact tour company (SPB Tours) and arranged for a tour they call Red Moscow 2. It is the exact itinerary except for a Kremlin stop. The cost is less that what Silversea normally charges and if more people sign up the cost goes even lower. I have provided the link to their site....if you sign up please mention my name so we can all take advantage of the lower group rate.

I only recommend a Moscow day tour for those on their second or third Baltic cruise. There is far too much to see in St. Petersburg on one's first cruise and the three days there barely allow you to scratch the surface.

Hows the Serenity

Hows the Serenity

My husband and I lived in St Pete & Siberia for 6 months, the previous poster is quite correct, so much to see there. We also went to Moscow on a visit on our way back to Australia, and comparing the 2, I would rather see the Summer Palace (Hermitage - we were members of the Friends of The Hermitage) and all its offerings, the river cruises etc, the beautiful buildings and churches in and around the city, to my mind would be much more worthwhile than the Moscow visit.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your trip, Russia is certainly different.

Ravenscroft

I returned from my first visit to St Petersburg last month.

I tend to agree with the previous posters. We had 3 full days there and it wasn't enough. There are also plenty of options for evenings there too.

We talked to several fellow guests who did the Moscow trip, by train, and they found it a very long day.

Anyway, if you're intent on taking this trip, have you posted also on the roll call for your cruise?

1,000+ Club

I'm in the same camp,

We spent 3 days in Moscow independently and FWIW the Kremlin is the big attraction for a one day trip, and even then most of the tours seem to skip The Diamond Fund which IMHO was one of the must sees.

Give Moscow the time it deserves and don;t try and see it in a day. or alternatively give SPB what it deserves, the full duration of your cruise stop

Thank you for your comments; can you instruct me on how to make a post on the ships's roll call?

Wealthy travelers are paying $17,000 a week for the most luxurious cabin on Silversea's new ultra-luxury cruise ship — see inside

  • Silversea Cruises ' new Silver Ray embarked on its maiden voyage in mid-June.
  • The ship's most luxurious 1,324-square-foot Otium Suites have amenities like a private hot tub and library.
  • The cabin starts at $17,000 per person in 2024, and it's mostly sold out for the year.

Insider Today

Silversea is one of the highest-end cruise lines on the market. So, as you can imagine, its new ship's most expensive suites are luxurious.

Like, really luxurious. And really expensive.

Silversea's new Silver Ray departed on its maiden voyage in mid-June. As is expected of Royal Caribbean Group's ritziest brand , the cruise line's 12th ship is outfitted with 364 of some of the most sumptuous suites at sea, the smallest of which already have a balcony, marble bathroom, and on-demand caviar.

Not too shabby, right?

silversea cruises kinder

Well, after seeing Silver Ray's most glamorous 1,324-square-foot Otium Suites, you could find yourself scoffing at its other accommodations.

Its balcony alone is larger than the ship's smallest suites. And its cost is more than three times that of the cheapest option.

In 2024, Silver Ray's Otium Suites start at $17,000 per person for a seven-day roundtrip cruise from Venice, Italy.

silversea cruises kinder

It's a steep price compared to the itinerary's least expensive $4,850 per person suite (there's an even cheaper category, but it's sold out for the sailing).

Despite the cost, Silver Ray's two Otium Suites are almost completely booked through 2024.

silversea cruises kinder

Upon entering, you're immediately greeted with the library and dining room — spaces you'd be hard-pressed to find in a typical cruise cabin.

Forgot a book? The reading nook is perfectly stocked for travelers interested in learning about bicycle brand Brompton ("The Brompton" by Will Butler-Adams and Dan Davies) and British microchip maker Arm ("The Everything Blueprint: The Microchip Design that Changed the World" by James Ashton).

Or, grab one of the neatly packaged games, such as tic-tac-toe and dominoes.

The dining table would be perfect for churning out a quick round of backgammon.

silversea cruises kinder

If you enjoy playing with a side of snacks, the fresh fruit bowl might do. Otherwise, you could call your butler for complimentary caviar or foie gras.

If it looks like a long game, brewing one of the bar's espresso pods or teas might be a good idea. Or, help yourself to some liquor, stocked according to the guests' preferences.

The dining table opens onto a living room with sprawling ocean views.

silversea cruises kinder

The couch can convert into a bed to sleep an additional guest. There's certainly ample room for three travelers, after all.

Take note of the chessboard and fresh-cut flowers, small touches that are, again, uncommon in the average suite.

If just one TV isn’t enough, you’re in luck. There’s another one in the bedroom.

silversea cruises kinder

It's also where you'll find the vanity, walk-in closet, and sizable bathroom — decorated with marble, of course.

Silver Ray’s cheapest suites have a dual vanity bathroom with a shower.

silversea cruises kinder

To out-luxe these cheaper accommodations, the Otium Suite comes with both a shower and a bathtub.

No need to worry about full privacy. The toilet is behind another closed door.

All of the ship's suites have balconies. None are as large as Otium's.

silversea cruises kinder

There's no need to hit the pool deck when your 431-square-foot balcony has a private hot tub, lounge chairs, and an outdoor dining table.

To compare, Silver Ray's smallest suites come with a 53-square-foot balcony. Size does matter, after all.

A private hot tub is included in the suite, which starts at $2,430 per person and day.

silversea cruises kinder

Hey, at least the cost includes a $399 spa treatment per person, too. Maybe a luxurious massage would help melt away the stress of the payment.

6 top luxury alaska cruises for 2024 & beyond.

Book a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to The Great Land on one of these top luxury ships.

Top Luxury Alaska Cruises

Cruising to Alaska on a small luxury ship affords a very different experience than sailing through The Great Land on a larger vessel. On a smaller luxury ship, you'll enjoy the expected perks like fewer passengers and more personalized service – but you'll also physically get closer to the boundless wilderness, abundant wildlife, icy blue glaciers and majestic snow-capped mountains that you've waited a lifetime to see.

While the fares to sail on such vessels are quite a bit higher than those of larger cruise providers, the all-inclusive (or mostly all-inclusive) prices typically include all-suite accommodations with balconies, all meals, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi access, gratuities, welcome bottles of sparkling wine, pillow selection, some shore excursions and butler service. Best of all, you won't feel like you're being nickel-and-dimed while on board. As a special touch, the attentive crew members may even learn your name and memorize your preferred pre-dinner cocktail.

Unlike many mainstream lines, most luxury Alaska cruises do not offer pre- and post-cruise tours to extend your adventure. However, you can plan these experiences on your own through third-party providers.

Alaska Tour & Travel has pre-cruise packages that include visits to Denali National Park & Preserve and the small, quirky Alaska towns of Homer and Talkeetna. You can also see a different side of Alaska via a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, take a national parks tour that includes Kenai Fjords National Park or head northbound to Fairbanks , one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights (if you visit during aurora season, from late August to late April). In addition, the company can plan a self-drive tour from Anchorage to Seward, which includes a stay at a wilderness lodge, helicopter flightseeing over Knik Glacier and guided tours in the parks.

The following luxury cruise lines will ensure you make the most of your voyage in Alaska – one of the most magical destinations on Earth.

Find your perfect cruise

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises' small luxury ships are designed for adventurers interested in visiting a mix of Alaska's top ports and more rugged, off-the-beaten-track locales. Extended itineraries offer stops in less-visited destinations like the towns of Haines and Wrangell. On board, guests can expect a personalized experience that includes luxurious ocean-view suites with butler service, multiple gourmet dining options, complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and attentive service with one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Base fares for Silversea's 2024 and 2025 Alaska itineraries start at $3,250 per person. If you upgrade to Silversea 's door-to-door fare (which starts at $5,200 per person), you'll receive private chauffeur service from your home to the airport (and back home upon your return) and round-trip flights, with business class upgrades in some destinations.

Silversea also offers immersive pre- and post-cruise land experiences, departing from Seward, Alaska. Highlights include sightseeing flights over Denali National Park & Preserve or into bear country to see Alaska's magnificent grizzly bears. In Vancouver, travelers can take a flightseeing transfer to Victoria to tour the 55-acre Butchart Gardens or board the Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day train ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Silversea's Alaska itineraries extend from May to September, with voyages ranging between seven and 16 days. The line's newest and largest vessel, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , sails its inaugural Alaska season in 2024 along with two smaller ships, Silver Muse (596 guests) and Silver Shadow (392 guests). There are 35 Alaska voyages available in 2024. In 2025, luxury cruisers can hop aboard one of 45 scheduled voyages on either Silver Nova or the 596-guest Silver Moon .

For a seven-day itinerary, consider a sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia. This voyage cruises the Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage and stops in the Alaska towns of Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan. Complimentary excursions in Ketchikan include a tour of Saxman Native Village; a visit to Bonfire Bay Oyster Farm, featuring a sea-to-table oyster tasting; the Alaskan Cultural, Culinary & Lumberjack show; the Alaskan Lodge Adventure & Seafeast and a day as a fisherman aboard the Aleutian Ballard, as seen on Discovery Channel's "The Deadliest Catch." You can also opt for a Selected Shore Excursion (for an additional cost), such as mountain biking or a private fishing trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' elegant Seven Seas Explorer sails the line's Alaska itineraries in 2024 and 2025. The lavish 746-guest ship was coined "The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built" when it debuted in 2016; among its impressive features are the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite and a high-end collection of art displayed throughout the ship, including works by Pablo Picasso.

Alaska voyages with Regent in 2024 and 2025 start at $4,799 per person. Upgraded 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares (starting at $5,499 per person) cover elegant all-balcony suite accommodations; round-trip airfare (business class on international flights); a one-night pre-cruise hotel package; free two- or three-night land programs; free unlimited shore excursions; free unlimited beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic); complimentary specialty dining; and prepaid gratuities. You'll also receive complimentary airport transfers, unlimited Wi-Fi access and valet laundry service.

Every suite style includes a private balcony, roomy closets and upscale finishes. Concierge Suites (and above) add cozy in-room amenities like cashmere blankets, perfect to bundle up in while you take in the scenery. Meanwhile, Penthouse Suites (and higher) include a private butler who can book excursions, make dinner and spa reservations, unpack your luggage, arrange for a private cocktail soiree in your suite and indulge any other special requests.

Between May and September 2024, Regent sails 22 Alaska voyages. There are 16 Alaska sailings scheduled for the same period in 2025. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights. For plenty of scenic cruising days, consider a round-trip itinerary from Vancouver departing May 28, 2025. The cruise includes five relaxing days at sea, where you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Inside Passage (twice), Hubbard Glacier (twice) and Endicott Arm Fjord. Ports of call in Alaska include Wrangell, Juneau , Skagway, Sitka, Seward, Icy Strait (Hoonah) and Ketchikan. You'll also have a full day in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Vancouver.

While in Wrangell, consider the Tongass Botanical Forest Walk excursion. Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the U.S., with towering old-growth trees and unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. While in the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide, look for local wildlife like Sitka black-tailed deer, porcupines and birds of prey. Other complimentary excursions at this stop include a round of golf at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course; a canoe trip through Wrangell harbor and nearby islands, and a heritage tour about Tlingit culture and the history of the town.

Nobu restaurant on a Crystal cruise ship.

Recently relaunched Crystal offers just seven voyages in Alaska aboard Crystal Serenity in July and August 2024. The 740-guest luxury vessel was refurbished in 2023 and features the line's signature top-notch service, elegant interiors and suites, and personal butler service in every room category.

Other perks and amenities include plush bathrobes and Sicily's Ortigia bath products; an impressive passenger-to-crew ratio; prepaid gratuities; complimentary beverages; and outstanding cuisine, including Umi Uma (an exclusive Nobu restaurant at sea, available only on Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony ). Guests can also feast on Italian cuisine at Osteria d'Ovidio; book an exclusive dining experience at The Vintage Room; indulge in Parisian cafe-style fare at The Bistro; opt for American cuisine at Waterside Restaurant or take their pick of several other casual indoor and alfresco options.

Cruisers also have their selection of unique shore experiences curated by Crystal's parent company A&K Travel Group, such as a ride on the world's largest zip line in Hoonah (Icy Strait Point); dog sledding and glacier flightseeing in Skagway; fishing and wilderness dining in Ketchikan and the Wildlife Quest and Fin Island Lodge experience in Sitka, boasting a feast of Alaska king crab and wild salmon.

Crystal offers seven- and eight-night round-trip voyages from Vancouver , as well as one-way cruises from Vancouver or Seward, Alaska. Select itineraries – like the July 30, 2024, voyage from Vancouver to Seward – offer a scenic cruising day in the Seymour Narrows in British Columbia. On this sailing, you'll also enjoy a day at sea cruising Hubbard Glacier, as well as stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Hoonah (Icy Strait), Skagway and Sitka in Alaska. Or, opt for the July 2, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver for three scenic cruising days in the Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and the Seymour Narrows.

The line's Aug. 13, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver features a special guest: Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the executive chairman of A&K Travel Group. As such, the cruise will include an exclusive gala dinner and other unique experiences. Other special voyages welcome marine biologist and National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin, who will share personal stories from his extensive career and expert insights about humpback whale habitats and behaviors.

Viking's destination-focused itineraries are curated for travelers who are interested in history, science, culture and cuisine, as they feature onboard enrichment like lectures by Viking's resident historians. Between May and August 2024, Seabourn Cruise Line will host 20 Alaska voyages aboard the Seabourn Odyssey , before the ship leaves the cruise line in the fall. In 2025, the line offers 27 Alaska sailings on Seabourn Quest. Both yacht-inspired ships accommodate up to 458 guests and feature Seabourn's signature all-inclusive amenities, including luxurious oceanfront suites with verandas; personalized service; complimentary fine wines and premium spirits; complimentary dining; and caviar served throughout the sailing. You'll also have a complimentary W-Fi package and an in-suite minibar stocked with your favorite beverages. Ashore, sign up for exclusive programs like shopping for fresh salmon, halibut and Alaska king crab alongside a Seabourn chef.

Guests booking Seabourn Quest for 2025 will be able to sample the line's new dining concept, Solis. Inspired by destinations in the Mediterranean, the menu features a fresh, modern take on traditional dishes and whimsical cocktails. The restaurant is a collaboration with master chef and culinary partner Anton Egger and senior corporate chef Franck Salein. In addition to dishes like salt-encrusted whole branzino and Tuscan-style steak, guests will also find a wide selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes.

The seven-day Alaska Fjords & Canadian Inside Passage itinerary on May 31, 2024, aboard Seabourn Odyssey, sails from Juneau to Vancouver and includes a day in either Tracy Arm or Endicott Arm, depending on the ice conditions. From there, you can take one of the optional guided excursions: Ventures by Seabourn. These tours are an additional cost but offer opportunities for up-close Zodiac, kayaking or catamaran experiences in the wilderness to see glaciers calving and view local wildlife, such as black bears, mountain goats, seals, wolves and seabirds.

You'll also enjoy many days of scenic cruising on this voyage, and have the opportunity for more optional adventures in Rudyerd Bay (Misty Fjords). The ship makes additional stops in Wrangell, Alaska, and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, before disembarking in Vancouver.

If you want to see stunning Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve, then consider booking the seven-day Alaska Inside Passage & Glacier Bay sailing on May 10, 2024, from Vancouver to Juneau. This itinerary also includes the Seymour Narrows and Snow Pass, cruising Queen Island Sound and the Lynn Canal. There's a stop for Ventures by Seabourn activities like kayaking and Zodiac rides in the Inian Islands. The Alaska ports of call on this voyage are Ketchikan, Sitka, Icy Strait Point and Haines. You'll disembark in Juneau.
