A Lavish Haven of Luxury: The Granite Luxury Hotel Exceeds Expectations

The Granite Luxury Hotel, located in Georgetown Penang, is the ideal destination for romantic escapes, family holidays, and business meetings.

I had the pleasure of staying at The Granite Luxury Hotel for two nights, and I must say that my experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I stepped foot into the hotel lobby, I knew I was in for an unforgettable stay.

The staff at The Granite Luxury Hotel is undoubtedly one of their greatest assets. Upon arrival, I was greeted with warm smiles and personalized service that made me feel like a valued guest. Bryan at the front desk assisted me with the check-in process and showed me to my room. He was very informative and helped me with bookings throughout my stay for various activities and eateries.

I checked into their Luxury Room, which had tasteful décor, plush bedding, and a comfortable ambience. The amenities provided were top-notch, including a welcome gift, a coffee machine, and a luxurious bathroom with premium toiletries. The room offered big windows which allowed for a great view of the city and a partial sea view.  The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep after a long day of exploring the city.

At turndown, the housekeeping set up a romantic bubble bath which included a bottle of sparkling juice, chocolates, and bath salts. They also dimmed the lights to create a romantic atmosphere.

The Mirage Pool Deck was the highlight of the hotel for me, it’s a stunning pool overlooking Georgetown and the pool area lights up at night.

The hotel has entered the Malaysia Book of Records for having the Highest Acrylic Bottom Swimming Pool. You can look down through the glass bottom of the pool and see all the way down to the street. It’s definitely a challenge for those afraid of heights. The pool is a great place to just chill and enjoy the views. Be sure to visit the pool deck around sunset time to get beautiful views with sunset hues.

The hotel’s fitness center was well-equipped with state-of-the-art machines, providing an excellent space for those who want to maintain their workout routine during their stay.

The location of the hotel was ideal, situated in the heart of the city and within close proximity to popular attractions, shopping malls and restaurants. This made it convenient for me to explore the city’s offerings and experience the local culture.

The hotel has another notable award, that was judged by the Malaysia Book of Records as the Tallest Automated Hotel Car Park.

Their Attic 23 Rooftop Bar is well-known in Penang, offering a spectacular 360° panoramic view of the city.

For dinner, the hotel arranged a special dining experience at a traditional Nyonya house which is over a hundred years old. It is a hidden gem that only accommodates a select number of patrons each night. Little Kitchen Nyonya is run by Baba Jay and his wife who are Peranakans. They are descendants of early Chinese migrants who settled in Penang, Malacca, and various other nearby areas.

Baba Jay took us on a historical food journey giving us insight into his family’s history as well as how the Nyonya cuisine came about.

There were multiple small dishes being served, each with their own unique story. The dinner also allows guests to partake in the preparation of certain dishes if they so wish.

After dinner, we were given a tour of his house and met his family. This allowed us a glimpse into their culture. I would definitely recommend this if ever you are in Penang.

The hotel offers various different suite rooms, noticeably their ‘safari suite’ which is a themed room that offers fun and exciting toys for kids to enjoy. The room has two queen beds but together, to fit the whole family. There is a ball pit in the room as well as a tunnel around the room which kids will love.

There are also business suites which can double as ideal venues for small meetings, seminars, workshops, and job interviews. The hotel has also converted some rooms into co-working spaces which can be rented out per day. Professionals can enjoy high-speed Wi-Fi, access to the hotel gym, as well as a shared kitchenette with snacks.

The Granite Luxury Hotel also offers an event space that would be great for birthday parties, weddings, and events. It has a glass chapel with scenic views of Georgetown. There is an in-house event organizer that can cater to all your needs and requirements for your special event.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel if you ever find yourself in Penang, it offers something for everyone, and is a top-tier luxury hotel experience.

FAMILY TRIP”

I would 100% recommended the stay in Granite Luxury Hotel Penang. We booked for suite room; Serene Suite. Room: It is absolutely clean, spacious and well manned. Toilet: There are 2 toilets in our room and both toilets are very cleaned. The toilet in room are well equipped with nice scent shampoo/body foam & soap. Living room with sofa bed; very comfy. Pantry: Well equipped with good branded coffee & tea. Cleaned utensils/cups/glasses. Most importantly the staff on ground are absolutely super friendly, very accommodating and very knowledgeable. Even though there is no breakfast catered in the hotel, you need not to worry as there are varieties of eateries located nearby the hotel. 1st Avenue Mall & Komtar are located opposite of the hotel across the streets. Hotel provided chartered free shuttle service alloted in 3 different timings; 8.30am/9.30am/10.30am (if I'm not mistaken) they will bring us to several allocated places, Transfer Road/Chowrasta/Armenian to name a few. The shuttle service bus can allocated estimated 17 pax per trip. You will need to book in advance with the ground staff. The swimming pool and gym provided for hotel guests. Good view from the swimming pool. Security wise is good. As you need to tap your card to your room as well access to the swimming pool. Transportation while in Penang, it is easier by grab and the price is at a good rate. I do recommend the stay at The Granite Luxury Hotel. Thank you to all staff at The Granite Luxury Hotel Penang! Satisfied but not satisfied”

We stayed here for 7nights , quite a long stay here. We are travelling in 4, brought my dad here to seek medical treatments in Penang. Stayed in a 2bedroom + 2bathroom suite, room is quite spacious, clean, we can always refill our drinking water as theres a dispenser in front of our suites, the kitchenette is complete, there's microwave and all. The second room where me and my husband stayed in, its facing Citadines and there are Cafes n Bars below the complex. It was very loud and noisy, up to 2am in the morning. There were singing, loud niises, yelling and all, while we all really need a rest as daily morning trip to Hospital and FYI we stayed in the 16th floor, but we can hear them all very loud and clear. I made a complaint to the staff in the reception, they welcome my complaint and they informed me that they do have the agreement with the next door cafes n bar to open their business until 12am, but not this loud and noisy. One of the staff, his name is Bryan, he's very helpful, he gave me his personal Whatsapp and told me to report when the noises is exceed 11pm, and so it happens, loud musics until 1am, I sent a video recording the room, let him hear the clear noises and they act very fast, they complained to the cafe/bar and they quite down immediately, thank you for your kind understanding. I believe that this is none of the Hotel's fault but I think there should me some room renovations need to be done towards the windows seal or soundproof the rooms more, because I believe, if we are who stayed on 16th floor can hear that loud, what about the guests in the lower floor. I was offered to switch rooms but we had all our stuffs out so its difficult to move. And the room phone was not working, this is what dissappoints me. But overall, I'm satisfied with this hotel, the service, the price is affordable, nice locations and the staffs are all very welcome and helpful. I hope you can improve in soundproofing the rooms please.

Overall pleasant stay”

The entrance is on the inside. Guest must lead driver to drop them right in front of the hotel door or else you need to walk a few steps towards the door. We were greated with friendly staff. Check in was quick and easy. We were served with refreshing welcome drinks. We got 2 key cards. They offered to deliver your luggage up but we can do it ourselves. You need to tap your card hotel to go up your room. The lift looks new and very clean. Room is spacious. Bathroom is spacious with transparant window but can be changed. TV is big. You can access youtube too. Bed is comfy and view was amazing. We got the front view of Komtar Building. House keeping was responsive to our requests and quick to deliver. For making up room, they had their own schedule. We went back at around 4pm and it was cleaned. No breakfast for us, but they do have breakfast in other building on the 20th floor. Access can be done through the eternity pool area. Drivers might now used to the location of this hotel. Sometimes you need to guide them. Overall pleasant stay and might plan to stay there on the following visit.

Luxury and value at its finest”

I'm in the middle of my stay, and the value you get is incredible. I have a Baroque Suite, which is 55 sqm. The kitchen area has a microwave, refrigerator, glasses and bottled water. It extends into a living area with a big table to do work, and a TV area with a sofa (that folds out into a bed), and the first great view of the city (with two layers of curtains that are very easy to adjust). The bedroom is nice, with great artistic flair, a comfortable bed, another TV, closet (with two bathrobes), and the other great view of the city (with two layers of curtains also). The bathroom is adorned with the same artistic flair as the bedroom, a good toilet, bathroom items (though I would recommend more toilet paper and a bigger bar of soap), and a good shower. The internet is very good and the TV is limited, but has a few good movie channels. The location is excellent, very close to three malls, the overlook tower of Penang, bus station, convenience stores, and restaurants. It is within 1.5 km of a good food court (the food courts in the malls are unimpressive). The quality of service has been top notch, from the receptionist to the doorman. I would enthusiastically recommend the Granite Luxury Hotel Penang, and hope to stay again in the future.

A wonderful week at the Granite”

My family (a group of 13, which included four generations) stayed at the Granite for a week in January 2024. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would recommend the hotel, with a couple of qualifiers. We loved the suites. Our group took up all the suites on the 11th floor except for one. That gave us the ability to keep our doors latched open and have the freedom to move between rooms. That was really nice and we're thankful that the management arranged things that way. We loved the pool and especially the clear floor, which looked down on the street fourteen floors below. There was also a gym, which I only used briefly a few times. The bathrooms were nice and even with the water restrictions in Penang, we were not affected at all. The management was helpful and friendly. We all received a warm welcome and a drink when we arrived. We loved location. It couldn't be more central to the George Town area. The hotel is directly across the road from Komtar and there is a plethora of shopping centres and markets surrounding the hotel. Of special mention is the 1st Avenue shopping centre and the Gama department store. What I didn't like: every other suite our family occupied was fantastic. But ours (1102) seemed like it missed out on any renovations. It certainly didn't share any of the lovely decor touches that other suites had. But the worst thing about our suite was the lack of light (or any outside view at all) in the master bedroom. The view (of Komtar) was in the living room, but our bedroom was pitch black. That said, every other room we saw seemed to be great. The price was good. $750 for a week in a suite for 3 adults. Can't beat that. Recommend? Definitely. But probably not room 1102. :)

The Granite Luxury Hotel is formerly M Summit 191 Executive Hotel Suites are located at 191A, Jalan Magazine, George Town, 10300 George Town, Pulau Pinang. The location is ideal as it is just opposite Komtar in Georgetown. This means you can walk to many tourist attractions as well as popular food places.

The Granite Luxury Hotel comes with automated parking system. Since space is limited in George Town area, they use the automated parking system with three bays that can take up to over 100 cars at one time.

It will take a minute or two to park your car or to retrieve your car but it is efficient and convenient. Make sure you offload your things before parking your car.

The lobby is huge and we appreciate the welcome drink as well as the comfortable sofas. We went during Hari Raya and luckily, we manage to check in seamlessly.

For your information there is only one Safari Suite for family at The Granite Luxury Hotel Penang and hence the exclusivity on the pricing.

The Granite Luxury Hotel Penang Family Safari Suite can stay up to four person as it comes with two Queen Size bed.  We checked and they use Slumberland mattress for their bed and that is the reason why we had good sleeps here.

Lets’ talk about the Safari Suite and this suite is huge. You can watch the video for the entire tour as we are going to show the photos below.

They offer welcome gift and it consist of biscuit, local coffee, nutmeg syrup and welcome note. This is a common gesture if you stay in luxury hotels.

The room is like a playroom for kids. There is a huge tunneling system around the suite and there is a huge ball pit at the side of the room.

The tunnel connects to another small kid’s playroom (kitchen). All of these are interconnected but do remember, there are built for kids and hence there is a weight limit for it.

The balls pit are fun and they clear the balls for sanitization for every room usage. This means there will be a set now balls every time new guests check in. This is for hygiene and cleanliness as the Granite Luxury Hotel Penang Family Safari Suite is built for comfort and safety for the kids.

There is a little kitchen with basin and kids tableware. This is something the kids will love. The bathroom on the other hand comes with the basic toiletries.

It comes with a standing shower and no bathtub. This is probably due to the huge size of the room and left no space for the bathtub but remember, there is an infinity pool on the rooftop.

The infinity pool offers the bird’s eye view of Komtar and surrounding area.

The cool thing about this pool is it is the highest cantilevered arcylic bottom swimming pool as recorded by the Malaysia Book of Records.

They also offer fitness center / gym on the top floor, next to the swimming pool. We know it is hard to run around the city with so many motors and cars and that is the reason you might want to consider to use the fitness center / gym on the top floor.

It is not the largest fitness center but it is good enough for your normal cardio routine as well as some weight lifting exercise.

They do not have a dining restaurant but they do collaborate with a nearby café for ala-carte breakfast. The food is good and the coffee is awesome.

Six Flags opens its first luxury hotel, which features daily giraffe feedings at safari-themed park

Giraffe encounters on an elevated walkway. The roar of nearby lions from a private veranda. Early morning game drives with elephants and rhinos. These experiences, typically reserved for safaris across the vast African continent, will soon be found at an amusement park in New Jersey, which also offers access to the world’s tallest roller coaster.

Six Flags Entertainment Corp.  is venturing into luxury hospitality, with a 20-room safari hotel slated to open on June 14. Located just 15 miles from New York City, inside the safari park at Six Flags Great Adventure, the  Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa  will perch guests above Ankole cattle, wildebeests and black bears that roam the property’s 350-acre African-themed expanse.

The company’s first foray into luxury hotels comes amid its planned  $1.88 billion acquisition  by  Cedar Fair LP , which owns 17 theme parks and 11 hotels, including Carowinds outside Charlotte and Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. 

Stays at Savannah Sunset begin at $599 per night during the summer season—with a two-night minimum—which puts it within range of some of Walt Disney World’s most high-end hotels. Here, that will include modern conveniences such as avocado toast and Starbucks chai lattes delivered to your canvas tent for breakfast, as well as tickets to Six Flags’ parks.

That adds to the attractions already bringing thrill-seekers to this corner of New Jersey, where Six Flags operates 510 acres filled with 14 hair-raising roller coasters, the Hurricane Harbor water park and the aforementioned Wild Safari Adventure. At the latter, guests are taken on 45-minute game drives to see 1,200 animals from six continents. While Six Flags does not release data for visitation to its individual parks, research from AECOM tracking attendance at global attractions shows that the New Jersey complex welcomed a record 3.5 million guests in 2019; in 2022, the most recent year for which AECOM data are available, that number was more than 2.1 million. 

The new hotel is a way to leverage the existing safari park for longer and more expensive stays, which in turn would drive spending in the rest of the parks. While the suites are modeled after the camps in, say, Botswana’s Okavango Delta or  Tanzania’s Serengeti , the layouts feature kitchenettes and Keurig coffee machines to cater to American families.

“We needed to really deliver things that were special,” says Edithann Velez Ramey, chief marketing officer at Six Flags.

A Company in Transition

Six Flags’ expansion into hotels comes at a critical time. This year  a survey of 3,491 US-based travelers  by Bloomberg Intelligence showed that more than half planned to visit theme parks for trips of at least three days, the second-most-popular vacation choice, after all-inclusive resorts. 

Courting visitors for multiple days is an advantage that such companies as  Walt Disney Co.  and  Comcast Corp. ’s Universal have long held over Six Flags, which has historically been focused almost exclusively on day guests. The gap has only widened, as Universal Orlando Resort readies a trio of new hotels around the 2025 debut of its Epic Universe theme park, and Disney continues to refurbish and launch new accommodations for its loyal Disney Vacation Club members.

Until now, Six Flags has operated just one hotel:  Great Escape Lodge , with 200 Adirondack-themed rooms surrounding an indoor water park in Queensbury, New York. Rooms start around $340 per night during prime summer weekends. 

The decision to experiment with luxury lodging was spurred by Chief Executive Officer Selim Bassoul, who took the helm in late 2021. It’s his most ambitious move as he shepherds the company ahead of its merger. (The close is expected to take place by the end of June, though some analysts and antitrust experts anticipate regulatory delays.) 

Marketing chief Ramey says the glamping concept was part of a strategy that encourages higher spending. The question Bassoul was asking, she says, is “How do we do things that allow us to elevate the price—and, by extension, revenues and profit?” 

In lieu of competing with Florida’s destination parks by building more attractions, Six Flags is using its proximity to the New York metro area as an advantage. Offering safari-like accommodations without a trip to the airport is unique, but as a one-off hotel, it’s a big idea that speaks to Six Flags’ current performance gaps. According to research by Bloomberg Intelligence, the company’s cash generation dropped in 2023 as per-person park spending decreased to $64 from $66, all while attendance remained lower than expected. Across all its 27 parks nationwide, Six Flags saw 22.2 million visitors last year—still far shy of 2019’s 32.8 million. 

What to Expect From a Six Flags Safari Stay

Savannah Sunset Resort & Spa is loaded with intriguing features and amenities—and also a heavy handful of contradictions. 

Nowhere else in the Northeast can you find rooms outfitted with genuine, handcrafted African wood furniture and vast savannah views. Daily giraffe feedings, made available exclusively to hotel guests, are the kind of thing some people associate with a bucket-list trip to Nairobi. An on-site restaurant, Mahaba Grill, will serve breakfast and dinner. Entrees, such as lobster ravioli or slow-roasted short rib, cost from $25 to $40. An on-site spa offers deep-tissue massages with a wooden African rungu stick. 

Each stay includes park admission, private transportation to the parks and expedited skip-the-line access on roller coasters and waterslides. Guests at Disney’s $300-a-night  Animal Kingdom Lodge , which claims the largest African wine list outside the continent and provides in-room views of animals roaming nearby, have to pay extra for such perks.

But there are significant challenges. Savannah Sunset requires all guests to be age 5 or older—a serious caveat for families with animal-loving preschoolers—and a restriction that’s almost impossible to find anywhere online. 

Six Flags also has to build this new business without the help of its most core demographic: Most of its guests are local and arrive with season passes in hand, which means they don’t need a hotel. 

This location is also the only Six Flag theme park that includes a safari park, so it’s unclear if this strategy can expand. 

And then there’s the issue that Savannah Sunset’s most senior staff have little experience with luxury hotels. In charge is Elizabeth Bransky-Cannata, who most recently served as traveling interim general manager for Holiday Inn Club Vacations locations. 

She’ll need to establish the hotel as a must-visit locale quickly, given its short seasonality. Six Flags Great Adventure is only open daily in summer (meaning, until Labor Day), and the hotel will be open only on select dates in the offseason. That’s a logistical issue that neither Disney nor Universal, which benefit from sunny Florida weather year-round, has to contend with at their resorts. 

Despite those caveats, Six Flags still sees enormous opportunity. 

“It’s one of our biggest, largest properties, so we knew we wanted to invest,” says Ramey. “And we’re thrilled that it’s happening in New Jersey.”
