A regal voyage around Scottish islands

The elegant Lord of the Glens, hosting just 54 guests, investigates the inland waters of the Caledonian Canal and hidden Scottish sea lochs. Lord of the Glens is a one-of-a-kind ship with a design inspired by the Royal Family's former floating palace, The Royal Yacht Britannia. A taste of Venice on a foodie cruise

An unforgettable Antartica expedition

A cruise to Antarctica really is nothing short of extraordinary. And to do it right, you need to join an accomplished crew who know how this wonderland works. In 2020, expedition cruise experts Hurtigruten introduced MS Fridtjof Nansen to its fleet and it fast became one of our favourite small vessels to explore Antarctic waters.

Hosting just 500 guests, it's not the smallest ship exploring the region. But in this instance, being a little larger means you get some extra facilities including a choice of restaurants (a definite plus on an 11-night cruise), a large science centre, and a fabulous outdoor swimming pool (which, yes, is heated so you can take a dip in as you gaze across the monochromatic landscape).

A wine-themed sailing on the Douro River

River cruises are ideal for seeing the diversity of a region, and there’s plenty to see hopping from place to place along the Douro River in Portugal. A-ROSA ALVA is a small river boat that promises plenty of variety on an itinerary that starts in the colourful city of Porto before sailing into the wine-growing valleys.

Guests have the chance to disembark and take part in the traditional grape harvest, but that’s not the only reason it’s the perfect cruise for wine lovers. There are also plenty of opportunities to taste the local port wine at the Quinta da Roseda estate near Pinhão and sip from the ship’s selection as you look out at the passing scenery from ALVA’s Panorama Lounge.

A breath-taking tour of Croatia's Dalmatian coast

Croatia's Dalmatian Coast is home to some of the country's most spectacular locations, like the charming city of Spilt, historic Dubrovnik and the sleek island resort of Hvar. Set sail with us on a boutique, Supreme category ship for a voyage that takes you through these wonderful waters.

Highlights of the itinerary include stop offs in Mljet, home to verdant Mljet National Park, the peaceful and picturesque island of Brac, the stylish resort island of Hvar, and the popular city of Dubrovnik, with its stunning Old Town.

A sailing around the stunning Cyclades

Set sail around Greece's Cyclades islands on Star Clipper, a four-masted ship that carries just 166 guests. A reconstruction of a 19th century four-masted Barquentine, Star Clipper has 81 spacious staterooms, all with traditional, elegant decor, and open-air bar hosting live music, two saltwater splash pools, an inviting sun deck with loungers, a peaceful library, and an enticing restaurant.

You'll board Star Clipper in Athens before heading to Kusadasi in Turkey. After that, the ship will call at the islands of Patmos, home to the ancient Monastery of the Apocalypse; Amorgos, with it's rugged landscape and great hiking spots; Spetses, with white-washed villas and an abundance of pretty coves; and the ever-popular island of Mykonos, which is packed with happening bars, boutique shops, sandy beaches, and its traditional windmills.

A scenic route along the Danube River

Enjoy an eight-day sailing along the Danube River, the second-longest river in Europe, with Good Housekeeping in 2024.

Departing in July and October, you'll have the choice of seeing Europe's most picturesque cities in either summer and autumn, but can enjoy the luxury, intimacy and grandeur of S.S Maria Theresa whatever time of year you sail. The luxury summer cruise that’s cheaper than flying

A mini cruise can offer excellent value for money, and can also offer a cost-effective route to popular international events.

British cruise line Cunard launched its first new ship in 14 years earlier this month, having spent around £480m on the build of Queen Anne . The 2,996-passenger vessel, named after the Stuart monarch, will be officially named at a ceremony in Liverpool on 3 June. The ship will be based year-round in Southampton where Cunard is now headquartered.

Like Cunard’s three existing ships, RMS Queen Mary 2 , Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth , Anne is a heritage ship underpinned by luxury and understated elegance – the experience is all about afternoon teas and gala dinners rather than Broadway-style shows and bingo.

Interiors have been designed by David Collins Studio, Richmond International and Sybille de Margerie, who between them have worked on projects that include Harrods, bespoke David Beckham suites at the Londoner Macao hotel, Sandy Lane in Barbados and the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Paris. Creative director Adam D Tihany has been behind restaurants for high-profile chefs such as Daniel Boulud, Heston Blumenthal and Paul Bocuse.

While Queen Anne ‘s cruises this year include week-long voyages that nose into Norway’s fjords and fortnight-long itineraries around the western Mediterranean, there are also some remarkably good value mini-cruises, among them a two-night break to Hamburg in Germany.

Coinciding with Fifa’s Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, the cruise departs Southampton on 30 June and arrives in Hamburg two days later – the quarter-finals will take place at the city’s Volksparkstadion on 5 July. The price of £299pp includes sea-view accommodation in a Britannia Club Balcony stateroom, which has a lounge area, complimentary Penhaligon’s toiletries, welcome bottle of sparkling wine, complimentary room service menu, priority embarkation and disembarkation and a dedicated steward.

Also included are meals in the main restaurant, afternoon tea, dance and art classes, deck games, access to the pool, classical concerts and evening entertainment. And of course luggage allowance.

Compare that to a one-way flight from Heathrow to Hamburg on the same departure date: British Airways has one-way fares available for £318pp, excluding checked-in luggage.

Cunard isn’t the only cruise line offering good value mini cruises this summer. MSC has a two-night cruise aboard Virtuosa from Southampton to Cherbourg on 1 June, that arrives on the coast of Normandy just before the 80th anniversary of the D-Day Landings on 6 June .

Costing £169pp, it includes accommodation in an inside cabin, all meals, tips, entertainment and port fees, rising to £209pp in an outside cabin. An equivalent on Brittany Ferries’ Portsmouth-Cherbourg overnight route on 3 June costs £161 for two passengers in a Club cabin without any meals or a car.

Anniversary events will be taking place along the coast from 1 June, starting with a free display of fireworks over the five landing beaches, and an international ceremony on 6 June on Omaha beach. The D-Day Festival runs for the first two weeks of June, with events along the coast until 16 June.

Inside Tom Cruise’s strained relationship with daughter Suri as she ditches his name

As Suri Cruise reached her 18th birthday, rumours have swirled that she is no longer in contact with her famous dad Tom Cruise .

Suri celebrated her big day with her mum, Katie Holmes , spending the afternoon shopping in the New York sunshine.

Tom, 61, was nowhere to be seen and is currently filming for a new project in London with no word on whether he sent any birthday wishes.

Their relationship is said to be so strained that Suri has decided to ditch her last name, going instead by Suri Noelle — her mother’s middle name.

In 2016, a US outlet reported the teenager  has a huge rift with her father and the pair have not been in contact for years.

Tom, who has two more children, hasn’t been pictured with Suri for years but is believed to have been paying child support as per his and Katie’s divorce settlement.

Was Tom Cruise involved in Suri’s childhood?

In April 2006, Katie and Tom revealed to the world they had welcomed a baby girl and five months later they graced the cover of Vanity Fair with Suri in their arms.

They married in a Scientologist church months later and lots of pictures of Tom out and about carrying his newborn cropped up.

‘My whole life I always wanted to be a father,’ he gushed to the publication at the time, having adopted Connor and Isabella with Nicole Kidman previously.

‘I always said to myself that my children would be able to depend on me and I would always be there for them and love them — that I’d never make a promise to my kids that I couldn’t keep.’

Things seemed to be going swimmingly until six years later when the Dawson’s Creek star filed for divorce while Tom was away filming Oblivion.

When was Tom Cruise last seen with Suri?

Around the time of the divorce was the last time Tom was publicly pictured with Suri, taking her to Disney World in 2012.

At the time, a spokesperson for the Top Gun star said: ‘Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children.’

The high profile split was said to be in part due to Katie’s fears around Scientology, after members of the group moved into their home.

Speaking to  the Daily Mail before his death, founder Ron Miscavige said the decision ‘didn’t sit so well with Katie, of course, and it hurt the marriage.’

When the divorce was settled, the Batman Begins star was granted sole custody plus $400,000 (£315,456) per year in child support until Suri turned 18.

It’s reported that Tom has not seen Suri in the 10 years since, with the pair being no contact for the last three years.

A source told Heat magazine: ‘Tom is feeling guilty about missing so much of her life, but insists that he hasn’t completely shut Suri out of his life, and does get updates from time to time.’

Has Katie Holmes said anything about Suri and Tom’s relationship?

Katie has not commented on Tom’s relationship with their daughter but has been incredibly open about how protective she feels over Suri’s privacy.

‘What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,’ she told Glamour last year.

‘I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.’
