Patong beach, Phuket, back in the 80’s, was a sleepy Thai fishing village. Bangla Road (the strip) was a semi paved, barely two lane piece of road that ran from the beach to the intersection. Beer was around 25 or 30 baht also and Thai fishing boats still anchored by the score very close to the beach at night. There is so many, but for me that's easy. Around the Safari Beach Hotel, like anywhere around Patong or Phuket island in Thailand, there will be little grilled chicken (Kai Yang) street stalls. The chicken is often eaten with sticky rice (Khao Niaow) and sweet chilli sauce. Yum!. Try it for breakfat. Real goooooood 🙂

Can a foreigner purchase properties in Patong, or Phuket island?

The short answer is yes. Generally, the key requirements for buying properties or Real Estate around Patong on Phuket island in Thailand are the following: A) A deposit of 10% to 20% of total price to be paid on the 'Promise of Sale' (before signing the final contract). B) A foreign buyer has two options: either a 30-year leasehold or purchasing the property through a limited company. Patong Apartments can be purchased by foreigners as long as at least 51% of the building is owned by Thais. C) Stamp duty is normally 0.50% of the total price. D) Registration fee between 2% and 2.5% of total Patong property price plus agent fee. It is also important to know that if you are a non-Thai citizen, you may be subject to specific regulations and in certain instances be required to hold a specific permit enabling you to acquire Patong or Phuket, Thailand property. This does not apply to properties situated within special designated areas, such as developments on Phuket, Thailand. Is it OK to drink water from the tap in Safari Beach Hotel, or around Patong on Phuket?

Personally I do NOT drink water from the tap on Phuket, Thailand, but they say you can? I suggest that you buy 6 pack bottled water from any local Patong mini market around the Safari Beach Hotel for drinking. The cheap clear, none branded, bottles, to me, are the best. I do though, as with other expats and locals around Patong, brush my teeth with tap water, and use it for making tea / coffee etc, but only after boiling a few times. If you are unsure when you arrive to the Safari Beach Hotel, stick to the bottled water.

The smoking room is very small and even before you lite up it feels like you have already had 5 cigs 🙂 VAPERS BE AWARE! Vaping (e-cigarettes) is still banded in Thailand 'so say' due to health issues, but in reality for import tax issues. 'On the spot' fines, or threats of jail time by local police. IF you do vape, and do get stopped and fined, ask for a police report. That should be fun? Bottom line is to 'just buy cigs' for your holiday. Saves on the flaff. TIT.

One piece of advice for the next guests: don't buy the same water or the same alcohol in the room's mini-bar. We bought sparkling water in the store and put the empty bottles in the bin in the room. And the lady who cleaned the room saw empty bottles in the basket and immediately added us to the bill from the minibar. We were very surprised when we left the room that we have sparkling water added to the balance daily 2 bottles (and there was nothing missing in the minibar !!!). It's probably just a carelessness of the cleaning lady - we had to pay 129 bath. But I really recommend staying in this hotel for the money. But you have to be prepared for noise at night because it is only 150 meters from the loudest street in Pathong. Street: Bangla there is very loud music at 6am and you can hear it in the hotel room. Plugs and ear plugs are necessary !!! to calm down the noise a little .. Breakfast very varied, you can choose from the menu 12 different breakfast sets - all for the price .

Extraordinary good Hotel”

I have been coming to Phuket for many years and this time I finally found the hotel that offers the best of everything at a good price. Everything that is important is right next door, beach 1min, Central Mall 5 min, clubs and bars / restaurants 2min. Back in the room you can look out over the large palm garden and enjoy its peace and quiet. Everywhere is always clean. The reception is manned by exceptionally trained staff who, in addition to day-to-day business, even independently check in at the airport, if you want to. I am thrilled and will definitely only check in here.

A perfect hotel”

The hotel is really perfect, the whole stuff is really friendly and very honest. The room has everything you need during your stay. Breakfast is really full of many varieties I forget a small bag contain 900 Euro and my passport, the hotel manager called me, informed me that I forget the bag with all valuable things inside, I back to get it. I really recommend this hotel and me personally will stay again there

SAFARI BEACH – Phuket hotel on the beach

When planning a trip to Phuket, who doesn’t want to stay on the beach? We chose the Safari Beach Hotel because it was an affordable, highly rated Phuket hotel on the beach – here is our full review.

During our stay in Phuket, we spent 5 nights at the Safari Beach Hotel located on Patong Beach. It was a pleasant stay and good value for money, with rooms costing just under £50 a night (around 2500B).

Here are the Pros and Cons to our stay at Safari Beach Hotel.

Safari Beach Hotel Pros:

Location  – The hotel is opposite Patong beach as well as being around a 3-minute walk from the lively Bangla Road, an ideal location for a Phuket trip. The short walk was ideal for late nights out and the large selection of restaurants that surrounded the hotel meant we had a lot of meal choices. There are also convenience stores, such as FamilyMart, just a short walk away, ideal for stocking up on water and snacks for the room.

Breakfast  – The Safari Beach Hotel offers breakfast each morning with continental choices such as cereal, toast and bakery products along with a few western and Thai hot items such as noodles and scrambled egg. The breakfast was nice considering it was included in the price but more of a choice would have made it even better.

Decor  – With a Thai-styled restaurant and lobby with wooden theming, the hotel decor is typically Thai and fits well with its tropical surroundings. The pathways to each of the buildings weave through palm trees and greenery – creating a unique, relaxing, tropical atmosphere that contrasts greatly with the bustling rowdy pub area nearby.

Staff  – The staff were incredibly friendly throughout our stay and were very helpful when my husband was unwell one day during our stay. The ladies at the reception were always polite and cheerful, greeting us by name and with a smile each time we returned to the hotel. They also helped us book tours and show tickets at decent prices.

Hotel Facilities  – Nestled in the centre of the resort is a well-maintained pool which was fairly quiet during the majority of our stay. Airport transfers are also available, as is WiFi throughout the hotel and rooms. The hotel also offers free parking, laundry services and tours that can be booked from the front desk – like a  day trip to the James Bond Island  or  a day trip to the nearby islands. 

Safari Beach Hotel Cons:

Restaurant  – The Savoey Restaurant is attached to the hotel and we heard about how popular and liked the restaurant was. In fairness, in comparison to the other restaurants along this beach front, this restaurant does appear to be the nicest looking place, with the hotels authentic Thai feel being used within the restaurant as well. Unfortunately, the quality of the food didn’t match the decor and neither of us particularly enjoyed our food at this restaurant.

Rooms  – The atmosphere and Thai feel of this hotel is lovely but unfortunately the rooms let the hotel down just slightly. Our room had a comfortable bed but were two twin beds pushed together instead of one double bed. The room was spacious with a desk, flat-screen TV and balcony. The bathroom had an OK shower but water pressure wasn’t particularly great and I did miss a bathtub. The room itself also felt just a little bit too dark and could have done with some more light. The room was decent for the area and price but I felt the rooms needed a little bit more TLC to meet the price of the hotel and the high expectations and standard of the rest of the resort.
