The Wild animal territory of Nagarahole National Park also known as Rajiv Gandhi National Park is located at the foothills of Brahmagiri hills between the Mysore plateau and the Nilgiri Mountains.

The Paradise of natural wonders invites you to explore 640 sq kms of undulating terrain to meet the rare and endangered species of animals. The park receives its name from the river Nagarahole, wherein naga means serpent and hole means stream.

The Kabini River separates the park from the well known Bandipur National Park. It is believed that the park had once been the hunting reserve of the Wadiyar dynasty and Mysore Kings.

The Royal Kings had even tried training the elephants for domestic use. It 1999 the park has been declared as the 37th tiger reserve in Project Tiger and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

Nagarahole National Park forms part of the Niligiri Biosphere Reserve and together with Bandipur National Park (875 Sq. kms) and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary (325 Sq. kms) to its South East and Wayanad (350 Sq. kms) to the South-West, is one of the last remaining and best protected habitats for endangered species like the Elephant and the Tiger.

Pick up from Mysore and drive to Nagarahole - Kabini River Lodge. On arrival check in and proceed for buffet lunch. Coffee or Tea will be served at 15.00hrs, at 15.30hrs drive to forest for wildlife safari. Return to lodge at 18.15hrs. Campfire, Dinner & Overnight.

Bangalore – Mysore

At appropriate time you will be picked up from your place of stay in Bangalore or from Bangalore airport and proceed to Mysore. If interested and if time allows, you may visit the interesting ‘Lacquerware Craft Complex’ on Tatekere road on the way. Finally, drive to Mysore- the legendary city of palaces, sandalwood, perfumes and jasmine... and check in at your hotel. Evening enjoy the visit to Brindavan Gardens. 

Post breakfast proceed for a sightseeing tour of Mysore city, which includes your visit to Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills and Mysore Zoo etc. Later you may visit Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation where you may witness the silk weaving process if the same will be going on, during the time of your visit. Mysore – Nagarhole National Park

Morning enjoy a visit to ‘Devraja Flower Market’- a photographer’s delight. Post breakfast, checkout from your hotel and you will be transferred straight to Nagarhole National Park. On arrival, check in at unique Kabini River Lodge. After brief leisure proceed for your first jungle safari in an open jeep into Nagarhole National Park. Morning enjoy Jungle safari through an open 4WD to spot the tiger and other wildlife of Nagarhole. At that time, it covered a few areas of the forest such as Hatgat, Arkeri, and Nalkeriin Kodagu. However, with time, several other reserve forests were added to increase its overall area, and finally, in 1988, when the park was occupying approximately 643.39 square km, it was upgraded into a national park.

Flora at Nagarhole National Park, Mysore

The flora of the Nagarhole National Park is typically rich in nature with mostly rosewood, sandalwood, and teakwood trees being predominant in the southern part of the region. On the other hand, the eastern part of the forest comprises Axle Wood tree, Crocodile Bark tree, and Thorny Wattle tree.

Commonly found species of the dry deciduous forest include the Indian kino tree, axle wood tree, grewia tiliaefolia tree, crocodile bark tree, kadam tree, schleichera trijuga tree, cotton tree, and many more. Other than that, you can also discover a diverse range of bonesets, lantana, tick clover, horse nettles, Indian gooseberry, horse nettles, and kydia calycina species in abundance.

The timings of the Jeep Safari are as follows:

Morning: From 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM Evening: From 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM

2. Coracle Safari : Another exciting ride here is the Coracle Safari that lets you enjoy a thrilling experience along the edges of the river Kabini on a traditional round-shaped boat. During this adventurous journey, you’ll experience many moods of the river along with spotting the land animals as well. The timings of the Coracle Safari are as follows:

Morning: From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM Evening: From 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

3. Boat Safari : For all those who are interested in enjoying the aquatic wildlife at the park, a Boat Safari is a good option to go. It takes place on the river Kabini where you can also witness many other water birds along with the marsh crocodiles. The timings of the Boat Safari are as follows:

Morning: From 6:30 AM to 9:15 AM Evening: From 3:30 PM to 6:15 PM

4. Bus Safari : If you want to increase the chances of wildlife sightseeing at Nagarhole National Park, you can go ahead with Bus Safari. It operates in 2 shifts and can easily accommodate 20-25 people at once. The timings of the Bus Safari are as follows:

Morning: From 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM Evening: From 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Since a limited number of safari vehicles are allowed to enter the park at once, it is recommended to book the safari in advance and reach the gate at least an hour prior to booking.

Entry Fee and Timings of Nagarhole National Park, Mysore

The entry fee to visit Nagarhole National Park is INR 150 per person for Indians and INR 1500 per person for foreigners. It welcomes its visitors from 6:45 AM to 8:45 AM in the morning and from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the evening on all days of the week. Please note that if you’re carrying a camera along with you, you need to pay INR 200 for it.

Best Time to visit Nagarhole National Park, Mysore

To explore the surroundings of Nagarhole National Park, you don’t need to wait for a specific time to plan your Mysore tour. However, if you want to make the most of your visit, the ideal time would be during the dry summer season i.e., April and May month. At this time, the animals come out of their space to the lake to quench their thirst, so the chances of seeing them closely increases.

Nestled at the foothills of the Nilgiris of the Blue Mountains, Bandipur was once the private hunting ground of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and one of the best-known wildlife sanctuaries in India. The highest density of the world’s Asiatic Elephant population in fact about 5000 wild Elephant’s roams these jungles. Bandipur also has a sizable number of Tigers.

Bandipur National Park Tour with the Kingdom of Mysore

On arriving at Bangalore Airport / Railway Station, meet with our representative and drive to Bandipur National Park. This park is ocated in the middle of the charming surroundings of the towering Western Ghat Mountains on the Mysore-Ooty highway in Karnataka state.

Upon arrival in Bandipur, check in to the wildlife resort. In the evening, enjoy the calm serenity of the forest resort. Dinner and overnight stay at resort.

Bandipur National Park

On this day, we will wake a little early and get ready for our first Jungle experience to spot the wildlife. We will board the safari vehicle to explore the Bandipur National Park. Bandipur is home to Leopard, Asiatic Wild Dogs, Stripped Hyenas, Jackals, Jungle Cats, Leopard Cats, Rusty Spotted Cats, Palm Civet, Small Indian Civets, Otters and four different species of Mongooses (the common stripe necked, brown and ruddy mongooses), Gaur, Sambar, Cheetal, Muntjac, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Four-Horn Antelope, Pangolin, Indian Porcupine, Fruit Bat, Spender Loris, Langur, Bonnet Macaque, Wild Pig, Black Saped Hare; and variety of reptiles such as Rock Python, Cobra, Marsh Crocodile, Monitor Lizard, Rat Snake, Wolf Snake, Common Krait, Runel's Viper Bamboo Pit Viper and Green Keel Back are also found here.

Later, return to the resort for being fresh and enjoy the breakfast.

After lunch, we will again get ready for wildlife exploration & birding within the periphery of the national park. We will be on foot and will be doing a guided walk to explore its amazing wildlife. Later in the evening return to the resort. In the evening enjoy the activities offered by the resort. Dinner and overnight stay at resort.

Bandipur – Mysore

After breakfast, leave for Mysore the ancient capital city of the Wodeyars. Today, Mysore is a vibrant city teeming with tourists and visitors. It is known by the entire world for its exotic sandalwood and rich silks. Its grand and imposing palaces, majestic temples, gardens are worth viewing and tell the story of long-gone era.

On reaching at Mysore, get transfer to the hotel. After being fresh, we will explore the city of Mysore visiting the Mysore Palace, Chamundi Hills, Brindavan Gardens, Mysore Zoo, and the Art Gallery etc.

In the evening, return to hotel for overnight stay.

Mysore – Bangalore

After breakfast, leave for Bangalore, en-route visit the Tipu Fort at Srirangapatnam, famous for the Tipu Sultan's former capital. There is an obelisk in the fort that marks the place where he fell - betrayed by his own men. The fort holds within it a mosque and the Ranganathaswamy Temple. Outside the fort is the Gumbaz, Tipu's tomb with splendid ebony doors inlaid with ivory.

After this, continue drive to Bangalore. Upon reaching, we will transfer to the airport / railway station for onward connection.

Designed by the Reverend Rene Feuge, it was constructed in 1956 in a Neo Gothic style and its architecture was inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The church is dedicated to 3rd century saint Philomena who was the daughter of the monarch of a small state in Greece. Her parents were childless for several years.
