Miss Tourism Uganda Contestants Unveiled

Over the weekend at the Kampala Serena Hotel, 32 contestants of Miss Tourism 2023-2024 were unveiled .

Held under the theme  Greening Tourism , the 32 came from various regions such as Buganda, Kigezi, Karamoja, Tooro, Teso, and Ankole.

On August 27, there will be an elimination round at Aara Fish Lounge in Adjumani, while the grand finale will occur on September 9 at the Kampala Serena Hotel.

The voting period will soon begin online. The contestant who garners the most votes will win a five-day vacation in Zanzibar, all expenses covered.

Sandra Nguna Ssesazi, the public relations representative of Miss Tourism Uganda, emphasised that the contestant with the highest online votes will also secure the title of Miss Tourism Popularity and will join the top five finalists.

On their criteria for selecting these pageants, Nguna said they made sure that each contestant is under 27 years old, unmarried, and without children. She said the contestant should also have an educational background of at least the S6 level.

The Miss Tourism crown winner will enjoy a trip to Dubai, while the first runner-up will have the pleasure of a trip to Zanzibar. Additionally, the winner will receive a land title.

Sydney Nabulya Kavuma is the reigning Miss Tourism Uganda 2022-2023.

TESO - Miss tourism teso, a popular beauty pageant focused on promoting culture and tourism in teso sub region is has opened up auditions for the miss tourism teso 2023-24.

The beauty pageant auditions calls for females aged between 18-28years old, with a passion to learn and protect tourism in TESO and Uganda as they will have an opportunity to the face of tourism in the great land of the famous Nyero rock paintings, one of the renowned historical sites in the country known for exhibiting the real truth about the existence of the smartest people that came before the modern-day civilization.

The qualifications for one to take part in this year's auditions include;

You must come from one of the districts in Teso sub-region with one or both parents as natives of TESO/KUMAM heritage. 

Additionally, one must be able to express themselves in English and Ateso/Kumam. 

Must have a minimum A'LEVEL Certificate or equivalent. 

Must be intelligent, eloquent and have poise.

Good Moral conduct is vital.

Must not be married or have any children.

Must not be currently reigning in any beauty pageant or contest.

It should also be noted that application fee is free of charge and deadline for registration is 04th,June,2023 and other detailed information can be accessed from all social media platforms of miss tourism teso like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Miss Tourism Uganda Ends Regional Search

The regional search for Miss Tourism Uganda came to an end over the weekend with beauties from three regions—Bunyoro, West Nile, and Teso—crowned.

All the queens from different regions will now head to the boot camp before the grand finale which will take place on 9th September 2023 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The Miss Tourism Bunyoro event, which took place last Saturday at Hoima Buffalo Hotel saw Boonabaana Babra Hoima District crowned winner.

Lots of entertainment was showcased as Bunyoro-Kitara traditional dance group took to the stage and performed the famous entogoro dance. For the main event to commence, the organizers waited for a full house because by the time the contestants introduced themselves to the crowd, the venue was full to the brim, and this was around midnight.

The contestants exhibited their fashion talents as they made different outfits from different inspirations in regard to tourism. Their outfits were made with materials like banana leaves, mats, newspapers, hides, and skins, among others.

The contestants were each asked different questions by the judges. The questions, which needed logic and general knowledge, got some contestants misfiring while others were on point.

There were also other performances from up-and-coming artists and unlike in other regions, the event in Hoima ended at 4 am.

On the other side of the country, Miss Tourism Teso also took place on the same weekend. The event held Seffron Gardens Soroti City saw Akello Alison Mary crowned the winner and Amuge Agnes Rita and Akiror Felistus came in as first and second runners up respectively.

And West Nile was also well represented as they crowned the talented ladies Abawo Benita Annet was the winner, Lenia Lisa Teresa came in as the first runner and the second runner-up was Ariye Joy.

Miss Tourism 2023-2024: Embracing Green Tourism, contestants unveiled

The unveiling ceremony for the Miss Tourism 2023-2024 contestants, themed ‘Greening Tourism’, captivated audiences on Saturday at Serena Hotel.

With the 10th edition of this prestigious event in focus, the introduction of 32 contenders representing 12 diverse regions marked an exciting chapter in Uganda’s beauty and tourism landscape.

Hailing from regions such as Buganda, Kigezi, Karamoja, Tooro, Teso, Ankole, and more, the contestants were showcased amidst anticipation and enthusiasm.

The journey towards crowning the next Miss Tourism is set to unfold with the elimination night scheduled for August 27 at Aara Fish Lounge in Adjumani, Northern Uganda. The pinnacle of the competition, the grand finale, will grace the renowned Serena Hotel on September 9, 2023.

Nguna Ssesazi Sandra, PR representative of Miss Tourism Uganda, unveiled this year’s 32 beauty pageants, each hailing from a distinct region. She emphasized the upcoming online voting phase, announcing that voters hold the power to grant their favourite contestants the chance to enjoy a 5-day paid vacation in Zanzibar, an enticing incentive to engage in the democratic process.

Sandra elaborated, “The contestant with the highest online votes will earn the coveted title of Miss Tourism Popularity, propelling her to the top 5 finalists of the competition.”

This innovative approach reflects the evolving nature of beauty pageants, blending audience participation with traditional judging criteria.

Highlighting the meticulous selection process, Sandra stated, “Our selection criteria for pageants encompass regions including Bunyoro, Kigezi, Ankole, Karamoja, West Nile, Northern region, and others. We ensure that each contender is below 27 years of age, unmarried, child-free, and possesses at least an education level of senior six.”

As the anticipation builds, this year’s Miss Tourism will be rewarded with a journey to Dubai, setting the stage for an enriching and diverse reign. The first runner-up will also be part of this enchanting trip.

Miss Tourism Uganda is back, bigger and better.

The 2023 edition of the pageant is being touted as the biggest so far, with anticipated higher participation and grander prizes up for grabs.

The final contestants representing all sub-regions of Uganda were on Saturday, August 12 unveiled at the Kampala Sheraton.

Ms. Sandra Nguna, the Miss Tourism Uganda spokeswoman revealed that this year’s contest has been made more exciting with greater prizes in store.

The overall queen, she said, will receive a plot of land and a title, on top of a full paid trip to Dubai, courtesy of Uganda Airlines.

The two runners-up meanwhile, will also get fully paid trips to Mombasa, while Miss Popularity, who is voted for online, will win an all-expenses paid trip to Zanzibar.

This year’s Miss Tourism pageant is focusing on the environment.

As such, Ms Nguna says all contestants will be required to partake in tree planting in their respective regions and other environmental activities.

Online voting is already underway on the Miss Tourism Uganda portal.

In the meantime, the contestants are currently staying at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Center in Entebbe where they will undergo training in different aspects including the environment, finances, insurance, and beauty among others.

Thereafter, there shall be a talent night in Adjumani district where some of the contenders will be eliminated.

The grand finale, where the winners will be announced is slated for September 9, 2023 at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel.

The reigning Miss Tourism Uganda is Ms Sydney Nabulya Kavuma.
