Stockholm set for world class equestrian extravaganza – tickets on sale now

Sweden and the city of Stockholm is for the second time one of the attractive stops of the Longines Global Champions Tour and the Global Champions League. Between June 12th -14th the worlds top riders will be competing at the city’s historic Olympic Stadium.

The main competitions are the individual Longines Global Champions Tour and the team competition Global Champions League and once more the worlds best riders and horses will head for the Swedish capital to battle it out. As a complement to the main competitions Stockholm Horse Week will focus on classes for young talents, both horses and riders! There will also be a shopping village and other activities in the area.

One of the news for next years competitions is  the possibilty to buy exclusive Premium tickets for the event where you get to experience the magical atmosphere from the best seats in the stadium. Tickets also includes a fast track entry to the showgrounds and access to a bar in connection to the stands.

The countdown to the Longines Global Champions Tour of Stockholm is on as the 2022 dates are confirmed for 17 - 19 June 2022.   In collaboration with Stockholm Horse Week, the three days of world-class action feature a thrilling festival of equestrian sport with a strong focus on the development of the younger generation. Tickets for the event at Stockholm’s historic Olympic Stadium will go on sale soon. The world’s elite riders and horses will be in Stockholm to compete in the Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL team competitions, which feature U25 riders in teams as the city joins the circuit’s global calendar for the third edition. Longines Global Champions Tour 2021 season champion and Olympic Gold Medallist Peder Fredricson said: “I’m really looking forward to LGCT Stockholm next summer and to once again compete against the world's best riders at the iconic Olympic stadium. The atmosphere and audience are amazing!" This year's LGCT Grand Prix of Stockholm winner Scott Brash explained the incredible atmosphere as: "It was an amazing crowd, especially when the Swedish guys ride they really get behind them and it’s great to feel that bit of atmosphere at the shows, it brings the best out in the competitors." While Edwina Tops-Alexander as part of the winning GCL team Valkensward United at the 2021 Stockholm event smiled: "It feels amazing to ride in Sweden and it is amazing to be at an event with such fantastic spectators and great sport." It will be an equestrian-themed weekend featuring the highest calibre of show jumping as well as an expansive program and shops for all the family to enjoy. Fans will be able to watch local heroes competing in an arena with a strong heritage in equestrian sport dating back over 100 years including the Olympic Games in 1912 and 1956 and the World Equestrian Games in the summer of 1990. Back bigger than ever, make sure to stay tuned for an exciting announcement of the full schedule featuring some new classes for 2022. The event is expected to draw huge crowds and with home and international heroes to cheer for, fans will be able to witness a true battle of the world’s best, with riders and teams competing for the top honours in Sweden and for a place in the GC Prague Playoffs.

HALL OF FAME: Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Stockholm

The Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Stockholm is a tightly fought competition with the best of the best taking to the city’s historic Olympic Stadium to fight for top podium position. The arena has a strong heritage in equestrian sport dating back over 100 years, including the Olympic Games in 1912 and 1956 and the World Equestrian Games in the summer of 1990.

The 2022 title was taken out by Christian Ahlmann aboard the impressive Dominator 2000 Z, who won their second Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of the season after the most legendary jump-off.

Home hero Henrik von Eckermann had to settle for second place in the LGCT Grand Prix of Stockholm powered by Fabege by just 0.11s with King Edward after winning all three other CSI5* classes so far this weekend. However, he doesn’t go home empty-handed as Ahlmann has already qualified for the LGCT Super Grand Prix in Prague handing the prestigious golden ticket to the Swede. Bronze place on the podium was secured by first to go in the spellbinding jump-off Marcus Ehning and his super stallion Stargold.

Speaking after taking the lion's share of the €334,000 prize purse in 2022 Ahlmann smiled: “It was unbelievable, all the people here you can tell are horse people and know the sport, they are behind every rider and it feels great - I am more than happy. Dominator is an absolute superstar. This win is a very big step for the overall championship. We had a great season so far but it is only half-time. I am very pleased with my horses and my whole team who work really really hard and I really hope that everything stays sound and focused and we can make it at the end of the season.”

In 2023, riders are again fighting for a golden ticket to the GC Prague Playoffs, where each individual winner will earn a place in the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix - the ultimate face-off in November where the season’s winning riders will battle for the lion’s share of €1.25 million euros.

28 till 30 juni kommer Longines Global Champions Tour till Stockholm för femte upplagan av den prestigefulla tävlingen. Som enda skandinaviska deltävling i kalendern är LGCT Stockholm alltid ett populärt evenemang för både publik och ryttare. Stockholms Stadion är en historisk arena mitt i staden som byggdes för Olympiska Spelen 1912. Det är en älskad idrottsarena som bjuder på unik atmosfär och en fantastisk inramning till evenemanget. Den anrika arenan har även en stark ridsporthistoria och har bland annat stått värd för Ryttar- VM 1990. This grand horse festival features world-class sports competitions, from daring jumps to precision riding. It’s an equestrian extravaganza  where you can really appreciate the athletic prowess of both riders and their equine partners.
