weLcome to the 2024–25 concert season

Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 2024-25 concert season celebrates two decades since Frederick P. Rose Hall—our home, The House of Swing —opened to the public.

“Over those 20 years, thousands of musicians, playing all the different styles, have performed under the Jazz at Lincoln Center banner,” our Managing and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis says. “On any given evening, we can use all the facilities to present a festival. The entire season is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Frederick P. Rose Hall.”

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis kicks off the commemorative year with Hot Jazz & Swing , a concert featuring jazz classics from the 1920s and 30s, with music direction by saxophonist, composer, and award-winning scholar Loren Schoenberg .

Over the course of the season, the JLCO will perform eight concerts that span the history of jazz, decade by decade, from the 1920s until the present, covering bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, contemporary jazz, and more.

Our hall’s 20th anniversary weekend in October features Panamanian singer, composer, actor, activist, and politician Rubén Blades in Rose Theater with venerable Brazilian vocal/instrumental groups Boca Livre and Editus Ensemble , as well as Grammy Award and Tony Award winner Bryan Carter in The Appel Room for his world premiere of “Rustin in Renaissance.”

This season also features virtuoso tenor saxophonist-composer Joshua Redman , bandleader and bassist Christian McBride , clarinetist-saxophonist-composer Paquito D’Rivera celebrating 70+ years in music, five-time Grammy Award-winning singer and NEA Jazz Master Dianne Reeves , charismatic singer René Marie paying homage to Harry Belafonte, pianist Monty Alexander , clarinet virtuoso Anat Cohen , and more.

“This season, we celebrate the masters, whose music, philosophy, and spirit of mentorship continue to influence everything we do as an organization.” Marsalis concludes. “And we create opportunities for you to enjoy the next stellar generation of musicians.”

“Plush and thrilling! Illuminated with new stars.” — The New York Times , January 27, 2019 More Press

The most beloved musical of all time,  Lerner & Loewe’s MY FAIR LADY  is back on Broadway in a lavish new production from  Lincoln Center Theater , the theater that brought you the Tony-winning revivals of  South Pacific  and  The King and I .

Directed by Tony winner  Bartlett Sher , the stellar cast - led by  Laura Benanti, Harry Hadden-Paton, Alexander Gemignani, Rosemary Harris, Allan Corduner, Christian Dante White, Linda Mugleston and Clarke Thorell  - tells the story of Eliza Doolittle, a young Cockney flower seller, and Henry Higgins, a linguistics professor who is determined to transform her into his idea of a “proper lady.” But who is really being transformed?

The classic score features “I Could Have Danced All Night,” “The Rain in Spain,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” and “On the Street Where You Live.” The original 1956 production won six Tony Awards including Best Musical, and was hailed by  The New York Times  as “one of the best musicals of the century."

In the hands of Harry Hadden-Paton, the production’s Henry Higgins, the character became, for me, extremely touching.

Lincoln Center to Offer New Choose What You Pay Tickets & Free Shows

Lincoln center for the performing arts announced upcoming free performances, plus a new "choose what you pay" ticketing model for this spring., by linda gaudino • published february 3, 2022 • updated on february 3, 2022 at 4:11 pm.

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts looks to make a big splash this spring with free performances while introducing a new "choose what you pay" model for ticketing, similar to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The spring season begins on Feb. 27 and runs until June 15. Public performances return to the community space, David Rubenstein Atrium, this March, while the American Songbook starts mid-April.

All events at the David Rubenstein Atrium are free, first-come, first-serve.

"Our spring consists of more than 70 events from February through June with civic activations like community blood drives, and artistry from across disciplines and from every corner of NYC. We're also excited to reopen the David Rubenstein Atrium, which has been largely closed since the pandemic began," said Leah Johnson, Lincoln Center's EVP/Chief of Communications, Marketing and Advocacy Officer, to NBC New York.

Programs offered like the Passport to the Arts and Lincoln Center Moments are also at no charge to guests with advanced sign-up.

The American Songbook series will be held in the Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse and welcome international artists with a range of styles, such as pop, musical theater, classical, rock and jazz.

For these performances, Lincoln Center is exploring a new model where audiences can decide what price is right for individuals. The goal is to make shows more inclusive for the community.

The Cast of A Little Night Music in Concert on Sondheim's Horny Musical and a Score Fit For an Opera Star

On June 27, the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical A Little Night Music will be presented in concert at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall , its ravishing, romantic score having been lavished with new orchestrations for a 53-piece orchestra by original orchestrator and longtime Sondheim collaborator Jonathan Tunick. The sound of the orchestra—the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, conducted by Tunick himself—will be nearly double that of the original production, which featured only 27 musicians.

It’s a musical setting fit for a bona fide opera star, and this production has one in mezzo-soprano Susan Graham, who made her Met Opera debut in 1991 in Die Zauberflöte ; last season, she performed in the new opera Dead Man Walking .

“I come from a different world,” Graham, who plays glamorous but past-her-prime theater star Desiree Armfeldt, told Broadway.com during a break in rehearsals at the DiMenna Center. “But in some ways the storytelling is operatic. And the music is just so beautiful. Unfortunately, I don't have an enormous amount to sing, but I'm hoping to make the best of what I can.”

“You do get the song,” countered Jason Gotay, who plays Henrik Egerman in the show.

“I do get the song,” Graham agreed.

As Graham admits, she had thought she'd reached a stage in her career when—to borrow a line from that song—she'd stopped opening doors.“It's a miracle for me, at this point in my career, to do something new,” she said. “I'm having such a blast. I'm surrounded by the best of the best. And it's a high bar, but…”

“You’re vaulting it,” said Gotay.

The concert staging, directed by John Doyle, is also a dramatic change of scenery for Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles (Countess Charlotte), who was, until very recently, performing the role of the ragged Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd —a much shadowier musical world. “There’s no hiding in this one,” she said. “I really enjoyed hiding in dark cubbyhole places in Sweeney Todd , behind the wig and behind just the darkness of the story. In this one, it really is about peacocks. Everyone's a peacock.”

“This is some of his most lush, romantic music,” said Gotay. “It is such a contrast to the book, which is so raunchy and so dirty. It’s like the horniest Sondheim show. That juxtaposition is really fun to play with.”

Famously, apart from a few measures, Sondheim composed A Little Night Music in variations of triple time. The cast is finding room to move within Sondheim’s ostensibly constrictive musical corset. “There’s freedom within boundaries, freedom within restriction,” said Jin Ha (Frid).

“For us in musical theater, the chance of singing with a 53-piece orchestra is nil,” said Shuler Hensley (Count Carl Magnus). “It's just extraordinary. It's like you're inhabiting a world of sound that you just can live in. It’s pretty spectacular.”

Appreciators of the work of Jonathan Tunick have had plenty to enjoy recently: revivals of  Sweeney Todd and  Merrily Roll Along , the posthumous Sondheim musical Here We Are and, most recently, the Encores! Titanic and the one-night-only  Follies concert at Carnegie Hall. At the Tonys, he took home the award for reorchestrating Merrily We Roll Along —his first Tony recognizing his work with Sondheim.

“I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say that the orchestra is the star of the show,” Graham said to a chorus of agreement.

“I've been listening to his orchestrations since I started listening to musical theater,” said Kerstin Anderson (Anne Egerman) of rehearsing with Tunick in the room. “It's like whoa! We were listening to the orchestra downstairs, and he was conducting, and I was like, ‘This came out of his head .’ It’s incredible.”

Lincoln Center just launched a new night market for the summer!

The Lincoln Center Night Market will be open Wednesdays through Sundays.

Anna Rahmanan

Just a few days after officials announced that Union Square will debut its first-ever Night Market this July, Lincoln Center has joined in on the fun, revealing its plans for its very own night market as part of its Summer for the City programming .

Lincoln Center Night Market

Aptly called the Lincoln Center Night Market, the "outdoor food emporium," as the destination is referred to in an official press release, is open every night from Wednesdays through Sundays starting at 5pm through 10pm. The market will be in place now through August 10, excluding July 4.

A number of vendors have already been announced, including Harlem Seafood Soul (lobster rolls! Waffle skewers! Mac and cheese bites!), Japanese purveyor Yakitori Totto, Mexican destination Maya's Snack Bar, Haitian restaurant Bunnan and Cocotazo, a Puerto Rican eatery that, according to the release, "feels like a warm hug."

Lincoln Center Night Market

In addition to the already announced food providers, visitors will get to order food from a tent with rotating options that align with each week's programming at the center.

Not part of the new market but still an exciting food-related update: Joe Coffee will be available from Wednesdays through Saturdays at Lincoln Center starting 9am to 5pm, the perfect fuel for the hundreds of other events that will take over Lincoln Center as part of its third annual Summer for the City Festival, which runs through August 10 and includes over 200 free or choose-what-you-pay happenings that span a variety of topics, genres and locations.

You can read through the entire calendar right  here  but standouts include virtual reality experience The Dream Machine, which features five distinct game-like interactive performances; a night of opera and drag with two superstar queens from  RuPaul's Drag Race , Monét X Change and Sapphira Cristál; and a silent disco night as part of India Week with DJ Rajuju Brown.

Browse through all the scheduled events and snag tickets right here .

Been there, done that? Think again, my friend.
