Tram-endous travel

Sustainable travel - public transport.

Birmingham is brilliant for buses and tremendous for trains and trams. There’s a huge network linking everyone to everything. You can easily plan your journey around Birmingham and the West Midlands and buy tickets at TfWM .

Transport for West Midlands has online timetables and fare information, with easy ticket buying and route planning. Alternatively, call 0871 200 22 33 for timetable information (calls from landlines and mobiles cost 12p per minute; your phone company may add its own access charge but it will tell you about this).

More and more local buses have facilities such as low floors for easy access for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Birmingham buses can’t be hailed to be stopped; passengers wishing to board or leave a bus should do so at an official bus stop.

Visit Transport for West Midlands for more bus information

Tram - West Midlands Metro

Birmingham's modern tram system, the West Midlands Metro, is a convenient and efficient way for visitors to explore our amazing city with ease.

The tram lines connect key areas around Birmingham, including the city centre and Jewellery Quarter, and extend out to connect to Wolverhampton. You can hop on by the iconic Library of Birmingham and hop off at Wolverhampton train station!

The trams use a zone-based ticketing system that gives visitors more flexibility in their travel plans. You can buy single journey tickets, or day passes for unlimited travel within specific zones for a day, a week or more.

The tram system not only ensures swift travel but also offers a unique perspective of the city and surrounding areas, allowing visitors to absorb its vibrant atmosphere while seamlessly connecting them to the best Birmingham has to offer.

For more information or to buy your tickets, visit West Midlands Metro .

Park and ride

There are park-and-ride sites across most of the West Midlands transport network. There is parking for cars and bikes. All sites are well-lit, with CCTV and help points, where you can speak to someone by pressing a button.

Most parking at train stations and along the West Midlands Metro line is free - find out more on the TfWM website

Swift Pay As You Go

The cashless way to travel. Simply load credit to your card to buy single, return and day tickets on the bus and tram.

No more hassle finding the exact change, just ask your bus or tram driver for your ticket when you board. With most bus operators accepting Swift Pay As You Go and offering a discount, as well as discounted fares on the West Midlands Metro, if you pay cash on the bus or tram then switch today to start saving.

Compact, easy to use application which allows users find next bus departures at stops quickly and easily. Live predictions are given when available and buses can be tracked in real time. Recently viewed stops are automatically saved for easy reuse and favorite stops can be bookmarked with a single tap. Transit provider schedules can also be browsed.

In YourStop , users can find stops using three distinct methods. There is a detailed stop search facility and a capability to browse all of a transit providers stops on a map. Perhaps most useful though, is the “Locate the Nearest Stops” button which a user sees when they first launch the app. This marks all stop within half a mile of the user on a map. If there are less than 20, the next closest are shown.

A useful feature is a destination drop down box which appears when viewing departures for a stop. This lists all stops in alphabetical order that can be reached from this stop without changing bus or train. When a destination in the drop down list is selected, departures which do not stop at this destination are filtered out. All remaining departures will stop at the destination and the time at the destination shown.

Destination drop down combines well with live ride where you can follow your bus or train on the google trip map after it leaves your stop. The destination stop is clearly marked in a different color and you can easily see where you are in relation to it.

• Quickly find stops near you and display them alongside your location on a google map • When available, real time predictions are displayed and automatically updated • When available, your bus or train location is updated in real time on both a trip diagram and trip google map • Powerful text based stop search facility • All stops in a transit providers network can be browsed on a map • Listings for a stop can be filtered by destination and the destination arrival time displayed • Recently viewed stops are automatically saved and favorite stops can be bookmarked • Live ride facility allows you to see exactly where you are when on a bus or train • Service alerts shown when available • More than 15 cities, hundreds of towns and 50,000 stops supported worldwide. Growing all the time.
