A modified Lancia delta integrale and a modified Lancia stratos went around this track I'm sure. I can't remember the times so this comment is entirely superfluous. Just thought I'd mention it.

Did they say how much time diff a wet track makes? In Top Gear it was 4 seconds but I don't think this track is as corner-intensive

Is it a standing or a flying start?
Standing start.
Is the track really only 1.2 miles long? That implies an average speed of <55mph.

The Grand Tour
The topic of this page has a wiki of its own: The Grand Tour Wiki .
The Grand Tour is a motoring show on Amazon Prime featuring ex- Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond , and James May . The show's executive producer, Andy Wilman , also moved from Top Gear to work on the new show, alongside many other members of the cast and crew including directors Richard Porter, Brian Klein and Phil Churchward.
The Grand Tour was officially announced on the 30th of July, 2015 as "Untitled Car Show", after months of speculation, by the online streaming service Amazon Prime. The Name "The Grand Tour" wasn't announced till May 2016. An official trailer for the series was released fifteen months later, on the 7th of October 2016.
It was revealed that the trio had signed on for thirty-six episodes over three series of the show, although thirty-eight would eventually air during this contract, including two double-part specials. The first episode of the show premiered on the 18th of November, 2016. The show's second series premiered on the 8th of December, 2017. The show's third series premiered on the 18th January 2019. On the 15th of December, 2018, the show was officially renewed for a fourth series which premiered on the 13th of December, 2019 and a fifth and final series that premiered on the 16th of September, 2022.
As part of the show's renewal, it was revealed that the show would no longer film any studio segments, bringing an end to the studio-centric style of show that Clarkson, Hammond, and May had been working on together for seventeen years. The show's fourth season, the first to be produced under this new arrangement, began airing in 2019.
On November 30th, 2023, the series announced of it's finale that aired on the 13th of September, 2024. And then Clarkson, Hammond and May would depart upon it's conclusion The Grand Tour sometime in 2024 and focused of their personal projects and leave automotive TV completely. This statement ruled out a return to Top Gear, after the BBC went off-aired as being 'foresable future'. [1] However, The Grand Tour may continue with newer presenters. [2]

The show's first episode sees the presenters kick off with a festival in the California desert
The show officially began filming its first series on the 7th of October, 2015 when Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond published pictures from their first shoot in Portugal. The first set of studio segments for the show were filmed in July, 2016 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The show has since filmed in the US, the Netherlands, England, Finland, Germany, Scotland, and the United Arab Emirates.
Announcement [ ]
Amazon announced that they had signed Clarkson, Hammond, and May for 36 episodes of a new show on the 30th of July, 2015. The show was left untitled for many months with promotional videos being released focusing on the presenters' struggle to come up with a name. However, on the 12th of May, 2016, the name was finally revealed to be 'The Grand Tour', reflecting the worldwide nature of the show. More details about the show were also revealed, most notably that the show's format would closely mimic that of Top Gear , featuring studio segments that were to be recorded in a tent that changes locations in almost every episode.
Incidents [ ]
In filming for series 2 , Richard Hammond was involved in two separate accidents. The first occurred in Mozambique, where Hammond was knocked unconscious after falling off a motorcycle. The second more serious incident occurred in Switzerland while filming the series 2 premiere. Hammond crashed a Rimac Concept car while competing in a hill-climb event. The car subsequently caught fire and was completely destroyed. Hammond, meanwhile, was hospitalised with a fractured knee. The accident, coupled with Clarkson's pneumonia diagnosis, delayed the second series premiere from October to December.
In filming for series 4, the crew were forced to evacuate in Vietnam after monsoonal rains flooded the boats of the production crew. In filming for series 5 , May was involved in a deadly crash in Norway in his Mitsubishi Evo.

This is the last series of the Grand Tour and the subsequently last series done by Clarkson, Hammond and May.
Segments [ ]
Conversation street [ ].
A still from episode 1's Conversation Street
In this segment, usually around 10 to 20 minutes into the show and lasting 5 to 10 minutes, the presenters often discuss the motoring news/topics and the recent events. The segment is always introduced by Richard Hammond and is accompanied by a 10 second title which features black silhouettes of the presenters against a white background. The title screen varies from episode-to-episode; for example, the title screens have, in the past, featured Clarkson in high-heels, Hammond with a bird on his arm, and the presenters with sombreros.
Celebrity Segments [ ]
For each series a new celebrity segment would be introduced however, they proved to not last long. Series 1 featured Celebrity Brain Crash , which was replaced in series 2 with Celebrity Face Off .
Celebrity Brain Crash (Season 1) [ ]
In this segment, usually around 30 to 40 minutes into the show and lasting from one to five minutes. The presenters introduce a celebrity to arrive into the tent for an interview. The celebrity always begins outside of the tent and mostly were 'killed' before they enter the tent. Guests on Celebrity Brain Crash have included Simon Pegg , Jeremy Renner, Charlize Theron, and Armie Hammer. The segment always ends with James asking, "So, does that mean he/she/they isn't/aren't coming on then?" then Richard implies.
Celebrity Face Off (Season 2) [ ]
In series 2, Celebrity Face Off was introduced. In the segment, two celebrities had their similarities. It is interviewed by Clarkson before competing against each other in a timed lap around a circuit located near the studio tent to determine whosever had their fastest lap. Participants use a Jaguar F-Type to complete their laps. The guests include Dominic Cooper, David Hasselhoff, Hugh Bonneville, Kiefer Sutherland, Paris Hilton, and more. Most said celebrities lapped with the automatic gearbox with other also use the flappy-paddles.
The Eboladrome [ ]
The Grand Tour's test track, which is the venue for most car reviews and the track around which lap times are completed, is nicknamed the Eboladrome , for it's resemblance to the Ebola virus. The track is located in Wroughton, at an used British Royal Air Force base. [1] The track is not used for the show's Celebrity Face Off segment.
The track features prominent landmarks, such as Old Lady's House (which has an unexploded WW-II bomb right next to it), the Isn't Straight , Substation , Your Name Here , and Field of Sheep .
Lap Times [ ]
After reviews have finished, The Grand Tour team put their cars around the Eboladrome, their official test track, to see which can achieve the fastest lap time. In series 1, each lap time was completed by The American, a fictionalised version of retired NASCAR driver Mike Skinner (dubbed as the American ). In series 2, however, Skinner was replaced by British racing driver Abbie Eaton .
Locations [ ]
The following is a list of locations in which The Grand Tour has filmed for Series 1 :
- Southern California, USA
- Johannesburg, South Africa
- Nashville, USA
- Stuttgart, Germany
- Rotterdam, Netherlands
- Lapland, Finland
- Loch Ness, Scotland
- Whitby, England
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
From Series 2 to Series 3 , only one location was used:
- The Cotswolds, United Kingdom
Following the conclusion of the third series, the shows will no longer feature a studio in any capacity, instead taking place entirely on filming location.
Format Change (Series 4 - 5) [ ]
From the fourth series until it's final series, the show's well established format was majorly overhauled. The format, of studio segments interlinking pre-produced films, had been a staple of The Grand Tour's first three series and of Clarkson, Hammond, and May's work on the first twenty two seasons of the revived Top Gear .
Thee are the major changes, includes:
Studio Links [ ]
For the duration of Clarkson, Hammond, and May's tenure on the revived Top Gear and The Grand Tour, a studio had been used as a way to link between various pre-produced films. From The Grand Tour's fourth season, this studio link was completely eliminated.
Standalone Segments [ ]
As a consequence of the abolition of the studio links, the trio's regular standalone segments were removed. This included the power laps around both Top Gear's original test track in Dunsfold and The Grand Tour's eboladrome , and the various celebrity-related segments, including Top Gear's Star in a Reasonably Priced Car and The Grand Tour's Celebrity Brain Crash and Celebrity Face Off. Altogether we're dropped.
Special Episodes [ ]
The removal of both the studio links and the standalone segments were a consequence of the larger transition of the show away from smaller films contained within individual episodes towards larger-scale episode-long films, more commonly referred to as specials .
The weekly episode had been officially scraped in-favour of the specials usually by one or two episodes per year, these said specials now aired at random at various times in the said year.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May’s Grand Tour Tenure Is Coming to an End
By Nico DeMattia
Posted on Nov 30, 2023 10:41 AM EST
The old Top Gear trio of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May will be hitting your screen as the hosts of The Grand Tour for the final time in 2024. The two final episodes have now been filmed, taking place in Mauritania and Zimbabwe, where the trio we’ve grown to love will close a chapter that’s been three decades in the making.
“We’re done. I have reviewed cars on TV since 1989. That’s 34 years. And after next year, I won’t be doing that any more,” Clarkson told The Times .
Since The Grand Tour launched in 2016, after Clarkson was fired from Top Gear for punching a producer, it’s gone through several changes. First, it was essentially a Top Gear recreation, with celebrity interviews and an in-studio live show. Then they tightened it up by ditching the celebrity stuff. Eventually, they ditched the live show altogether and just made feature-length specials. And while none of The Grand Tour’s iterations managed to capture the magic of Top Gear at its best , it was still one of the most watched shows on Amazon Prime . Millions of people tuned in to watch the automotive equivalent of the Three Stooges (and I mean that as a grand compliment).
All three hosts have their own projects to pursue outside of The Grand Tour anyway. Clarkson has his farm show and May has a travel show, both of which are also on Amazon Prime , while Hammond still does a lot of work for DriveTribe , while also presenting other TV programs. So they’ll still be around, even though The Grand Tour won’t be.
This news also comes just a couple of weeks after the BBC decided to indefinitely shut down Top Gear . After host Freddie Flintoff’s accident during filming and the subsequent settlement, the BBC decided against renewing the show. Clarkson doesn’t blame the most recent trio of Top Gear hosts for not wanting to return, either, specifically Flintoff.
“Richard Hammond was always keen to get back to work [following a crash], whereas Freddie isn’t,” Clarkson told The Sun . “I don’t blame him. I know what happened on that awful day and it was horrific.”
Clarkson even said that anyone who wants to take over in Flintoff’s spot would come across as “heartless.”
In a matter of weeks, the world learned that the two most entertaining car shows on TV are shutting down. We all knew this day was coming soon, as the original Top Gear gang are all either in their sixties or getting quite close, but it’s still a little sad to see them go. Sure, their most recent work pales in comparison to the shows from their prime but, like most millennial car nerds, Clarkson, Hammond, and May made an indelible impression on me and the way I look at cars, and I’m sure I’m not alone on that one. Thanks for the memories, chaps.

The end of the road has come for Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May as they say goodbye to The Grand Tour in emotional scenes.
In the final episode, titled One for the Road, the trio head to Zimbabwe in three cars they have always wanted to own. In a Lancia Montecarlo, a Ford Capri 3-litre, and a Triumph Stag, the boys visit their favourite location from 20 years of travelling the world.
As they bid farewell to their lives on The Grand Tour, a montage of flashbacks and present day clips are thrown into the final minutes of the two-hour episode.
"What a way to end The Grand Tour. What a place," Clarkson says as he drives down a sandy path.
In the final moments of One for the Road, which may prove to be an emotional viewing for those who have followed the presenting trio over the years, they each drive alongside one another as they reach Kubu Island.
More like this
A particular poignant moment, flashbacks are shown from the first time the men all visited the island before it jumps back to the present day, as they recreate old scenes.
Executive producer Andy Wilman said Kubu Island was "their favourite place in all the 18 years that we've been doing the specials", so they "knew the last minutes of the film needed to be there".
As they stood atop one of the boulders on the island, it was a wrap!
"That's it," Hammond says before they all shake hands and say goodbye to the production crew.
The trio then drive down out of Kubu Island and veer off into their separate ways, marking an end to The Grand Tour.
Speaking of filming the ending, Hammond noted that it wasn't just emotional for the three of them but for the entire group of people who worked behind the scenes.
"We've worked together for decades and we've been through good times and bad," he said. "We've seen each other in jungles covered in leeches, exhausted and grumpy in tents and boiling heat, elated in the most beautiful cities in the world. We're a great big dysfunctional family, so there were a lot of tears."

While Clarkson, Hammond and May all say goodbye to The Grand Tour, this isn't the end of the franchise.
Earlier this month, Hammond confirmed that the series will continue, but with new presenters instead.
"It will be carrying on," Hammond told Metro.co.uk . "The Grand Tour continues. We're stepping away as the hosts, but Prime will be continuing it. So I can’t wait to sit on my own chair and watch somebody else do it. That's amazing."

Everything We Know About The Next Grand Tour Episode: A 2,000KM European Road Trip
The Grand Tour released its latest episode , The Scandi Flick, to hugely positive reviews, and now fans of Jeremy Clarkson , Richard Hammond, and James May are eager to know when the next episode will air and what it will involve.
Three months ago, The Grand Tour team returned from Europe after a long stint of filming. Travelling from Poland to Slovenia, the trio drove 2,000km to bring us what looks to be the best episode so far.
With the latest episode now over and fans revelling in the memories, I thought I’d explore everything we know about the upcoming European special from the cars they drive, to the planes they fly.
Table of Contents
Where and Where Did They Start Filming?
Gdansk, poland.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by Grand Tour Nation (@grandtournation)
Clarkson, Hammond, and May left from Oxford International Airport on June 19th on a private jet. They landed in Gdansk , Poland soon after, where their journey began.
Here, they joined their three cars, a Chevrolet SSR, a Crosley Convertible, and a Mitsuoka Le-Seyde which they took to Długia Street. According to Google Maps, this is completely pedestrianised, but according to local reports, the filming was done under secrecy with not even the local law enforcement knowing about the team and their plans.
This area is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the city leading from the Golden Gate to Długi Targ square. It looks like the trio drove the length of this, as well as around the post-shipyard areas, the port, and Westerplatte.
This is where our assumptions begin. Gdansk is home to where the first gunshots of World War II were shot, and this theme continues to a few of the locations the team travels to later in the week of filming.
Before they left the city, a hot rod based on a 1959 Ford Popular was also spotted. This will become more prevalent later on.
Did The Grand Tour Travel to Ukraine?
It was a couple of days into filming where fans started wondering if The Grand Tour was heading to Ukraine . As we know, Jeremy has been very passionate about supporting the people of Ukraine since the war with Russia started, so at this point it wasn’t such a stretch, especially when Jeremy showed his support of driving armoured vehicles into the country on Twitter.
@JeremyClarkson quick pitch: You and the fellas outfit a few armored recon vehicles and race to #Ukraine #UkraineRussianWar — patrick rickard (@RatrickPickard) March 25, 2022
As we now know, the team didn’t make it to Ukraine. Instead, they traveled South-West.
Zielona Gora – The Grand Tour Visits Vineyards
We followed the trio as they traveled to Zielona Gora, a city in the Lubusz province of the country. It’s known for its endless vineyards so it wouldn’t be a surprise if we see Clarkson, Hammond and May tasting some wine at this point of the episode.
It also has connections to WWII, with it being reported that 30% of the city had been damaged by the Germans.
Richard Hammond Crashes At Tor Poznań Racetrack
Continuing West, the trio were spotted at a racetrack. I did some investigation work and figures out that this was the Tor Poznań racetrack in the city of Poznan. The track almost became part of the F1 calendar in the ’80s thanks to its connection to Polish F1 driver Robert Kubica, but this never came to fruition.
This didn’t stop Clarkson, Hammond and May from driving some open-wheeled race cars around the track. As you heard, Richard Hammond lived up to his antics and crashed into a barrier . He was unhurt but the car sustained a little front-end damage. According to our sources, this was caused by the engine seizing. Hammond was seen next to the wreck in a racing suit with May stood next to him looking a bit disappointed in his fellow presenter.
Judging from a photo of Jeremy with a stop watch hung around his neck, it looks like they were doing timed laps here.
James May Breaks Down
As the trio headed from Poznan to Lower Silesia, Hammond’s bad luck was passed to James May as his Crosley broke down . We don’t know what happened to the car, but it was pushed onto the back of a trailer as May waited for a replacement.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by FAN ACCOUNT-I’M NOT RH (@richard_hammond_tr)
What was that replacement? The hot rod, of course.
The Grand Tour Visits a German Concentration Camp
Next stop: Jeremy posted a photo to his Instagram account of Stalag Luft 3, a German concentration camp in the town of town of Sagan, Lower Silesia. This continues the WWII theme and should act as a sobering moment in the episode. Around this time the team also visited Krakow.
Leaving The Country and Entering Slovakia
After a brief drive through Czechia, the trio was seen driving through Slovakia, the country where there are the most cars produced per capita. Here they visited Patak Motors who showed the presenters their car, the Roadster.

Still in Slovakia, Jeremy gets into the driver’s seat of a Skoda 1100 OHC Spider , which he describes as “absolutely fantastic”, at Piešťany Airport. At the same time, James May was spotted driving the KleinVision AirCar .
The Road To The Finale
The trio continue their travels through Bratislava where they go cycling by the Danube River before continuing to Hungary, and eventually Slovenia.
Slovenia, The Final Destination Of The Grand Tour European Special
Here, Clarkson and Hammond were spotted on Lake Bled without May in the northwest of Slovenia in the Julian Alps. Again, we don’t quite know what they were doing, but they were seen rowing a boat onto the lake before Hammond stood up, rocking the boat.
Despite this being an incredibly popular area for tourists, barely any footage from around the area was taken which is a shame.
Jeremy Clarkson On The Release Date Of The European Special In Interview
Soon after, Clarkson and Hammond were interviewed by Radio 1 Slovenia in what seemed to be the most awkward interview I’ve ever watched , but Jeremy gives a brief outline of the trip.
He describes it as a “2,200 kilometer drive from Gdansk at the top of Poland. All the way down to Krakow, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and then here.” He then admits that it’ll be six months before we see the episode on Amazon Prime.
The Grand Tour Filming Comes To An End
A day later, a video was posted by Jeremy of the team celebrating the two weeks of filming coming to an end. Jeremy, Richard, and James were joined by what looked to be the whole team, as well as producer Andy Wilman playing air guitar.
It looks like lots of fun was had, as well as lots of gin.
Producer Andy Wilman on The Episode
“It’s richer, there’s more to do. Russia is barren, so you can’t find as much nonsense to do,” Wilman said in an interview with Grand Tour Nation and other press.
“An ice lake with a racetrack on it, the skiers, those kinds of things that we did in this film, that wasn’t going to come our way in Russia, so it did give us more content being where we were.
“Submarine base tunnels? With the best will in the world, I can’t imagine the Russians going, ‘Yes, help yourselves’, so it did come good on that front.”
Richard Hammond On the Episode
“I think it worked out even better,” he said in an interview with Grand Tour Nation and other press.
“We sort of revelled in the landscape more. We know that part of the world, we’ve filmed there before, so to connect those places up was great.
“Scandinavia is one of those places we’ve returned to many times over the years, like South Africa, Australia, and bits of Germany. Some places that just ‘get’ us, and always have.”
