This Disney Park Is One of the Most Beautiful in the World — How to Visit

Here’s our magical guide to visiting Disneyland Paris.

Getting there, disneyland paris day trip itinerary.

Since 1992, Disneyland Paris (then called Euro Disney) has welcomed more than 250 million guests to its magical theme parks and hotels. Made up of two parks (Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park), seven hotels, and a dining and shopping district called Disney Village, the theme park resort has grown into a full-blown vacation destination, and it’s only getting better. Fresh off its 30th-anniversary celebration, the opening of Avengers Campus, and the reimagining of Disneyland Hotel, Disneyland Paris recently announced big plans to completely transform Walt Disney Studios Park into Disney Adventure World.

I’ve visited 10 of the 12 Disney theme parks around the world, and Disneyland Park in Paris is the most beautiful iteration of the classic castle park I’ve visited, with gorgeously crafted immersive worlds surrounding a stunning pink castle inspired by French chateaux. I went back to Disneyland Paris last month to see everything new and exciting (and re-ride everything I loved the first time) to curate a new guide featuring the best of the resort. With unique interpretations of classic Disney attractions and a few memorable rides you can’t find anywhere else, the resort is a worthwhile day trip from Paris or a multi-day getaway. From can’t-miss rides to the best restaurants and places to stay, here’s everything you need to know about visiting Disneyland Paris.

Elizabeth Rhodes/Travel + Leisure

When it comes to high and low seasons, Disneyland Paris is similar to its U.S. counterparts: Crowds are largest during school breaks and public holidays. The summer months, long weekends, and the winter holiday season are all among the busiest times to visit Disneyland Paris, and mid-January through mid-March and mid-April through mid-May are typically less busy times to visit. This summer will undoubtedly be extra busy for Disneyland Paris as tourists worldwide flock to the French capital for the Olympics. To avoid the heaviest crowds throughout the year, plan to visit Tuesday through Thursday (and avoid weekends).

Thanks to the lineup of festive annual events, a fall trip to Disneyland Paris is always a good idea. Each year, Disneyland Paris hosts Halloween and Christmas events with seasonal decorations and eats; this year, Disney Halloween Festival will take place from Oct. 1 to Nov. 3, and Disney Enchanted Christmas will last from Nov. 9 to Jan. 6.

It’s worth noting that American tourists are likely used to the warm weather found year-round at the domestic parks in California and Florida, but Paris experiences all four seasons. Be sure to check the forecast and pack appropriately — it was very chilly when I visited in February one year, and we had to buy Mickey beanies to stay warm.

Disneyland Paris sells dated and undated tickets, with several variations depending on how many days you visit and which parks you want to visit. You can buy dated tickets for one to four days for both parks (or a single-day, single-park dated ticket). You can also purchase a single-day undated ticket to one or both parks, but these are typically more expensive. Disney uses dynamic ticket pricing, so you can check out the ticket calendar to see when you could visit to save a few bucks on admission. (Hint: cheaper days mean lower crowd levels.) For 2024, the cheapest one-park, one-day ticket currently ranges from $73 to $148.

Annual Passes

Disneyland Paris also offers three tiers of annual passes: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Bronze is 289 euros and allows holders to visit 170 days a year. The Silver Pass is 499 euros and allows guests to access the parks 300 out of 365 days each year. Silver pass holders can also enjoy 10 percent discounts at shops and restaurants. The Gold Pass is 699 euros, allows entry every day of the year, offers a 15 percent discount at shops and restaurants, and includes Extra Magic Time and an annual PhotoPass.

Disney Premier Access

Want to skip the line for the most popular attractions? Disney Premier Access works similarly to the old FastPass or newer Genie+ at the U.S. parks in that it allows you to skip the main standby line, but there are some nuances you’ll want to know before you purchase. Yes, purchase — this is an additional cost, just like Genie+ Lightning Lanes in the U.S. You can buy Disney Premier Access One for individual attractions to gain a time slot for the Premier Access queue on the day you visit via the Disneyland Paris app. Or you can splurge on the Disney Premier Access Ultimate, an all-day pass that allows you to skip the line once for every participating attraction. You can buy the Ultimate pass the day of or in advance.

I tested Disney Premier Access Ultimate during my recent trip, and I could ride everything I wanted during my two-day trip, even while fighting jet lag. Of course, if you’re a single rider, you can also take advantage of the dedicated single-rider queues, but even those had long waits for some of the top rides, like Crush’s Coaster.

Disneyland Park

Is this the most beautiful Disney theme park in the world? It just might be, with its dazzling pink castle inspired by Mont St. Michel and intricately themed lands that feature fantastic versions of classic Disney rides . Disneyland Park is France’s “castle park,” a term used in the theme park community to describe the Disney parks centered around the main princess castle with a hub-and-spoke layout featuring lands like Adventureland and Fantasyland (think Disneyland Park in California and Magic Kingdom in Florida ). Disneyland Paris has five main lands — Discoveryland (similar to Tomorrowland), Fantasyland, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Main Street, U.S.A. Don’t miss the nightly Disney Electrical Sky Parade featuring drones, projections, and fountains for a fun new take on the beloved parade.

You can find classic attractions like It’s a Small World, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Peter Pan’s Flight, and Autopia at Disneyland Park. Still, I recommend prioritizing the one-of-a-kind rides you can’t find in the U.S. parks and the unique versions of attractions you’re already familiar with if you’re short on time. I loved Phantom Manor, a spookier version of the Haunted Mansions in Florida and California. I also enjoyed the European park’s take on Pirates of the Caribbean and Big Thunder Mountain. Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain is a thrilling, Star Wars -themed take on the classic indoor coaster. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril is an intense outdoor roller coaster unique to this park (though Tokyo DisneySea has a similar ride).

Take the time to tour Sleeping Beauty Castle (the views from the terrace are beautiful, as is the stained-glass depiction of the fairy tale) and the Dragon’s Lair (home to an impressive audio-animatronic dragon).

Best Restaurants

Many table and quick-service restaurants are located around the park, from French meals with princesses at Auberge de Cendrillon to Tex Mex at Casa de Coco. I enjoyed my meal at Walt’s, an American restaurant themed to Walt Disney’s life, with dishes inspired by his favorite foods, like his famous chili. Get a table by the window to enjoy great people-watching on Main Street, U.S.A. Find Mickey-shaped pizza at Pizzeria Bella Notte, or try the French version of a Dole Whip at Cafe de la Brousse. If you plan to eat at a table-service restaurant that accepts reservations, make reservations as soon as possible to ensure you can dine when you want.

Walt Disney Studios Park

Walt Disney Studios Park will be transformed entirely into Disney Adventure World — construction kicked off in April. This new version of the park will see significant changes, including the addition of World of Frozen, but Walt Disney Studios Park is still open amid the transformation. That said, because so much is changing at this park, we’re just going to hit the highlights for visitors who plan to visit soon before the park is complete.

Walt Disney Studios Park is home to some of Disneyland Paris’s top attractions, including rides you won’t find anywhere else. At Avengers Campus, you can sling webs at Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure (which also exists at Disney California Adventure Park) or go on a high-speed mission on the unique Avengers Assemble: Flight Force featuring Iron Man and Captain Marvel. (Fun fact: this ride used to be Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so expect a thrilling launch start and multiple inversions.) Finding Nemo -themed Crush’s Coaster is a super-popular spinning coaster mostly indoors; it’s worth purchasing Premier Access if you visit during a busy time. The original Ratatouille: The Adventure can be found in this park, along with Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and some smaller attractions perfect for kids in the Pixar area of the park. This park also features several shows, including The Disney Junior Dream Factory, Stitch Live!, Mickey and the Magician, and Frozen: A Musical Invitation.

Bistrot Chez Rémy is hands-down the best restaurant in Walt Disney Studios Park. Shrink down to the size of a rat at this “Ratatouille”-themed restaurant serving up dishes like steak and roast cod with sides of ratatouille, of course. There are also several food trucks throughout the park and some superhero-themed eateries at Avengers Campus.

Disney Village is Disneyland Paris’s version of Downtown Disney with several shopping and dining outlets, including American favorites like Five Guys and Earl of Sandwich and sit-down restaurants. Stop by the Disney Store to grab some souvenirs before heading out.

Disneyland Paris has seven themed hotels (listed here from most luxurious to most affordable): Disneyland Hotel, Disney Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel, Disney Newport Bay Club, Disney Sequoia Lodge, Disney Hotel Cheyenne, Disney Hotel Santa Fe, Disney Davy Crockett Ranch. All except Disney Davy Crockett Ranch offer free shuttles or are within walking distance of the parks. Many hotels have U.S.-inspired themes, like nautical New England at Disney Newport Bay Club and Old West at Disney Hotel Cheyenne. I stayed at the recently reimagined Disneyland Hotel ; it’s one of the best Disney hotels in the world, located right at the entrance of Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Hotel

The pink Disneyland Hotel feels like a castle in its own right, with a lobby that looks like a royal library and a host of amenities that guarantee a magical vacation. Walking through the lobby, I’d spot Disney princesses waving to guests — and little princes and princesses who just had makeovers at the Royal Collection Boutique waving back.

The hotel also has a free Royal Kids Club, a pool, a fitness center, a spa by Clarins, a bar, and two character dining restaurants, Royal Banquet and La Table de Lumière. I had the chance to visit both restaurants during my stay and loved my experience at both; if I had to choose a favorite, I’d pick La Table de Lumiere for the adorable character interactions. I’m always blown away by how the characters can communicate in many languages at the international Disney parks, and these interactions with the princes and princesses were so fun and memorable.

Overall, I had a wonderful stay at Disneyland Hotel. The recently renovated rooms had upscale decor inspired by iconic Disney fairy tales (mine had a Snow White theme) and thoughtful details that provided a five-star experience. Plus, it took me just a few minutes to walk from my room to the park entrance — an incredible perk you won’t find at many Disney hotels.

Getting to Disneyland Paris from the city is surprisingly easy. Take the RER A (an express train line) to the Marne-la-Vallée/Chessy/Parcs Disneyland stop just a few minutes from the park gates. You can also take the Disneyland Paris Express shuttle bus, but I highly recommend taking the RER. You can also take a TGV train to this stop from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport; I did this on my recent trip, and it took about 10 minutes to take the train from the airport stop to Disneyland Paris (though it was very crowded on the weekend).

Although the resort has lovely hotels that are well worth a stay for travelers who want to explore the parks for more than a day, many visitors come to Disneyland Paris for a day trip from the capital. I recommend planning to arrive at the theme parks before opening so you can rope drop any of your top-priority attractions. Get a two-park pass, and consider paying for Premier Access (for one or all attractions) to make the most of one day. I’d recommend starting at Walt Disney Studios Park to ride Crush’s Coaster, Tower of Terror, the Avenger’s Campus attractions, and Ratatouille: The Adventure. Schedule a sit-down meal at Bistrot Chez Remy or Walt’s for lunch, then spend the rest of the day in Disneyland Park and watch the Disney Electrical Sky Parade before you leave.

As you plan to visit the most beautiful and happy place in France, there are a few things you should know to make your visit even more enjoyable, especially if you’re visiting Disneyland Paris for the first time

As a Disney-obsessed person, I’ve picked up a number of Disneyland Paris tips over the times I’ve visited that I am sure you’ll find helpful, even when it’s not your first visit.

Ready to have a fantastic time on your visit? Here are my best tips for visiting Disneyland Paris.

Before You Go, Here’s How To Plan Your Visit To Disneyland Paris: Practical Quick Tips

  • Before going to Disneyland Paris, make sure that you have already bought this 1 day Disney entry ticket to avoid wasting time in lines or this multi-day entrance ticket if you plan on visiting for more than one day. Ps. Do not buy the tickets on the day of your visit as they tend to be much more expensive.
  • Take advantage of the extra magic time by staying at one of the Disneyland Paris Hotels. You can stay at Relais Spa Chessy Val d’Europe if you’re on a budget, Disney’s Newport Bay Club for a luxury mid-range stay (this is actually where I stayed when I visited Disney), or Disney’s Hotel New York® – The Art of Marvel for a luxurious stay. All these hotels offer a free shuttle to Disneyland Paris and are 10 minutes away from the park on foot.

Best Disneyland Paris Tips for an Amazing Trip

Here are the best tips on Disneyland Paris that will help you enjoy your visit to the max.

It's a small world is one of the fun attractions in Disneyland Paris.

1. Understand the Different types of Tickets for Disneyland Paris

First on my list of Disneyland Paris tips for first timers is to examine the different types of entry tickets.

You should know that there are various types of tickets, and understanding them and what each offers will ensure that you purchase one that is right for you. To give you an idea, below are all the options available to you.

Disneyland Paris 1-Day Ticket: This entry ticket allows you to visit Disneyland Paris for one day. When buying the ticket, you can choose whether you want to spend that one day in one park or both. Yes, Disneyland has 2 parks — Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios. >>> Click here to purchase your Disneyland Paris 1-day ticket <<<

Disneyland Paris Multi-Day Entrance Ticket: Unlike the one above, this entry ticket allows you to visit both parks for either 2, 3, or 4 days depending on how long your visit will last. Please note that these should be consecutive days from the day your trip begins. >>> Click here to purchase your Disneyland Paris multi-day ticket <<<

Disneyland Paris 1-Day Flexible Ticket: This ticket is perfect if you want to be flexible. As the name suggests, you don’t have to have a fixed date for your visit, unlike the above tickets. The ticket is valid for 1 year from the date of purchase so you can visit any time you feel like and you can have access to either 1 or 2 parks for 1 day. >>> Click here to purchase your Disneyland Paris 1-day flexible ticket <<<

Which ticket should you purchase? This entirely depends on what you want, how many days you want to visit, and if you want to visit just one park or both. So, choose one that suits your personal needs.

2. Book Your Disney Tickets Online in Advance

After knowing the exact type of ticket you need, you should book it in advance!

This might sound like a no-brainer but you’ll be surprised by how many people spend hours in queues just to buy tickets.

By buying your entry tickets online, you not only save time you would have wasted in queues but they’re also sometimes cheaper.

As an example, if you buy tickets on the day of your visit (even if you buy them online), they’ll be almost double the price you’d have bought them for, say 1 month earlier. You can purchase your Disneyland Paris ticket from here!

Walt Disney Studios

3. Visit both Parks

As mentioned above, Disneyland Paris has 2 parks. Disneyland Park which is all about magic and fairytales and Walt Disney Studios Park which highlights the biggest movies from Disney, Marvel, and Pixar.

While visiting both is a little more expensive than visiting one, I recommend visiting both to get a glimpse of both sides.

Before, Walt Disney Studios Park didn’t have a lot of attractions but new attractions have been added recently to make it worth your while.

However, if time and budget dictate visiting only one, then you should visit Disneyland Park and leave out Walt Disney Studios.

4. Download the Official Disneyland Paris Mobile App

As Disney says “Your mobile is your Magic Wand”, so before you visit Disneyland, make sure that you download the free Disneyland Paris app .

This app does much more than just show waiting times for attractions. You can make reservations at restaurants, see the times for parades, and get personalized recommendations for rides to go to throughout the day.

The app will also be your handy guide by showing you walking times from one attraction to another, and if you need to purchase Disney Premier Access (more on this later in the article) or order food, you can do all that at the tap of the button.

Main street, USA - Disneyland Paris

5. Expect long lines

Being a magical place as it is, you can expect long lines! Over 12 million people visit Disneyland Paris annually, meaning that over 30k people visit every day.

Of course, this depends more or less on the time of the year, but this amount of people calls for patience.

For popular rides in Disneyland Paris like Big Thunder Mountain, Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, Star Tours, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, etc., you can expect waiting times of up to 1 hour.

If that happens, the only thing you can do is to be patient since you can’t visit Disney and not do those rides.

6. Take Advantage of the lunch hours to ride on popular rides

One of my best tips for Disneyland Paris is to go to popular rides during lunch hours. Between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, the number of people at rides will reduce as they go to have lunch.

Instead of adding to the crowds at restaurants, do the opposite and go to popular attractions and you might just reduce the wait time in half.

Taking advantage of the lunch hours to ride on popular rides is one of the best tips for Disneyland Paris.

7. Avoid visiting on the Weekend And school holidays

While still on tips for Disneyland Paris to help you avoid the crowds, another useful one is to visit during the week and not at the weekend.

This is because many people who work Monday to Friday usually take weekend trips from Paris and other nearby cities to Disneyland. This is the same for other school and bank holidays.

If you choose to visit during the week, you may want to avoid Wednesday too as most kids in France don’t go to school on Wednesday.

8. Get to the park as early as possible

Disneyland Paris will always be crowded but one tip to help you beat the crowds is to arrive as early as possible.

If you’re sleeping at one of the Disney hotels, then this shouldn’t be an issue as you’ll have the magical pass, but if you’re not a resident, arriving early is the best way to guarantee you ride on popular attractions as early as possible.

Currently, both parks open at 9:30 AM, so make sure you’re already there by at least 8:30 AM or 9 AM to be the first in the security queue.

Disneyland Paris hotel

9. Take Advantage of the Extra Magic Hours

One of the best Disney Paris tips is to take advantage of the Extra magic hours by sleeping in a Disney hotel .

While the parks open at 9:30 AM for everyone, those who stay in Disneyland Paris hotels get a magic pass that allows them to enjoy the park before the crowds arrive. Depending on the time of the year, this can be either 30 minutes or 1 hour earlier.

With the magic pass, you can easily ride the popular attractions that are usually crowded before the crowds arrive.

In the same way, magic pass holders also get to enjoy extra magic time at the end of the day. As the park closes to everyone else, people with magic cards can stay for an additional 30 minutes to enjoy a little extra magic without the crowds.

To get a magic pass, you’ll need to stay at a Disneyland Paris hotel. My 3 most recommended Disneyland Paris hotels include;

  • Relais Spa Chessy Val d’Europe: This is great for budget travelers. You can check rates and availability here .
  • Disney’s Newport Bay Club: This is for mid-range budget travelers. This is actually where I stayed on my last visit. You can check rates and availability here .
  •   Disney’s Hotel New York® – The Art of Marvel: For a luxurious stay, you can’t go wrong with this hotel. You can check rates and availability here .

Taking advantage of the Extra Magic Hours is one of the best Disneyland Paris tips.

10. Make reservations at restaurants in advance

If you plan to have lunch/dinner at one of the best Disneyland Paris restaurants , especially at the table-service and all-you-can-eat buffet restaurants, then you’ll need to make reservations in advance to be guaranteed a spot.

Most of these popular restaurants book up pretty fast that sometimes you’ll need to book 2 months in advance before your visit.

You can easily make a reservation through the Disneyland Paris official app or even make adjustments to it.

11. Consider bringing Your own Food/Snacks

As you’d imagine, restaurants at Disneyland Paris are quite pricey! If you don’t want to spend on food or you just can’t justify the price tag attached to it, consider carrying your own.

The best thing is that Disney allows this so you won’t be in any trouble.

tips for visiting Disneyland Paris

12. consider doing character dining

While still talking about food, you may want to consider character dining. If you don’t know what this is, character dining is a unique experience where different Disney Characters visit you at your dining table to have fun with you.

This is specifically fun if you’re visiting with kids as they’ll appreciate being up close and personal with their favorite Disney characters.

Character Dining is at specific restaurants so you’ll need to check the official website to see which restaurants and characters are on for the day.

13. Leave your Disney costumes at Home

One of the Paris Disneyland tips many first-time visitors don’t know is that dressing up in costumes for adults is not allowed. Children below the age of 14 years are however allowed to dress up in costumes.

This helps reduce confusion, especially with kids who may find it hard to distinguish who the real Disney cast member is and who is just playing dress-up.

However, if you have a t-shirt, cap, or bunny ears featuring Disney characters, you can wear them.

Finding out the character meet & greet schedule At your hotel is one of the best tips on Disneyland Paris.

14. Find out the character meet & greet schedule At your hotel

One of the perks of staying at a Disneyland Paris hotel is getting up close and personal with Disney characters at hotels.

These hotels usually hold meet and greets at different times so if you want to be part of it, confirm with your hotel to make sure you don’t miss it. I mean it’s also part of the magic of Disney.

15. Take advantage of Disney Premier Access

Why waste hours in queues when you can just ride your favorite attraction with no lines?

Since Disneyland Paris phased out the old FastPass system, it has since introduced Disney Premier Access which allows fast entry to rides without using the general long queues.

How does the Disney Premier Access exactly work?

There are 2 types of Disney Premier Access — Disney Premier Access Ultimate and Disney Premier Access One with the former offering more perks and of course, more expensive.

 Big Thunder Mountain

With Disney Premier Access One , you get fast-track entry to only one attraction in the park and you’d need to book a time slot beforehand. When that time comes, you just walk straight to the fast lane. You can only purchase it through the app and only on the day of your visit.

On the other hand, Disney Premier Access Ultimate allows you to ride each available attraction once and you can just go the fast lane any time you want without booking a time slot. It is also purchasable through the Disney app though you can do it either in advance or on the day of your visit.

One thing you should note, however, is that you cannot use the Disney Premier Access on every ride but a few and usually the most popular ones.

Some of the eligible attractions include; Crush’s Coaster, Big Thunder Mountain, Ratatouille: The Adventure, Star Wars Hyper Space Mountain, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and more.

Buzz lightyear- Disneyland Paris

16. Skip the Lines By Opting for Single Rider Queues

Another one of the Disneyland Paris tips and tricks to help you save some time in a rather crowded park is to take advantage of the single-rider queues.

If you’re not familiar with it, it comes as a result of a group of people (single party in Disney language) leaving one free seat.

For example, if a ride has 4 seats and the boarding group has 3 members, the cast members will add the 4th person from the single riders queue.

This service is a great way to ride your favorite attractions fast given that you don’t mind not riding with your family or friends.

There are several attractions with single rider queues, so if you want to take advantage of it, just join the short queue with the sign single riders.

17. Make a checklist of the Rides You Don’t Want to Miss

Disney can be incredibly overwhelming especially if you don’t know where to start. It has various rides and it’s normal to want to ride them immediately but that just doesn’t happen.

In fact, chances are high that you’ll not ride all the attractions in the park! However, to make sure that you stay organized and do not forget any rides, I recommend creating a checklist.

This can be as easy as using a notepad on your phone with all the attractions you want to visit and removing any that you visit.

me and the Christmas tree at Disneyland Paris

18. Visit Disneyland Paris at least once during the seasonal Celebrations

Disneyland Paris is incredible all year round but it takes its magic to the next level during seasonal celebrations, so if you can, be sure to visit during one.

Yes, it will be a bit more crowded than usual but in my opinion, this is one of the things you should experience at least once.

The seasonal celebrations you can look out for include;

Chrsitmas at Disneyland Paris

Disney Enchanted Christmas : Starting from mid-November to early January, Disney becomes Santa’s most beautiful village. From stunning Christmas decor, Christmas trees that shimmer in beautiful lights, and Christmas-themed parades to Christmas musical shows, Christmas in Paris is not complete without experiencing the fairytale of Christmas at Disney. You can read my post on how to visit Disneyland Paris at Christmas !

Disney Halloween Festival: If you’re more into Halloween, then Halloween at Disney is one that you won’t forget. Usually from the beginning of October to the beginning of November, Disney puts on a display of chilling decorations that even non-Halloween lovers will fall in love with. You’ll also be able to attend the best Halloween parties at Disneyland Paris.

Pinocchio at Disney

19. Plan to Visit Disneyland Paris for 2 days if Possible

I know most people treat it as a day trip from Paris which is totally doable, but if you can visit for 2 days, which means spending 1 night at one of the Disney hotels or at the campsites close to Disneyland Paris if you prefer camping, then do it.

With 2 days, you can dedicate one full day to either park which gives you a higher chance of enjoying a wide array of attractions.

If you choose to visit for 2 days, this is the Disneyland Paris entry ticket you’ll need .

20. You can get to Disneyland Paris from both CDG Airport And Orly Airport

Looking for tips for going to Disneyland Paris? Here is another one you might find useful.

One of the most frequently asked questions about visiting Disneyland Paris is which airport one should fly to.

The simple answer is any that makes sense for you depending on where you’re flying from. Both CDG and Orly airports have a direct Magical shuttle that takes you from the airport to the park.

Taking the Magical shuttle is the easiest way to get from these airports but if you intend to use trains, then CDG might make more sense.

To use the magical shuttle, you’ll have to book your spot in advance which you can book from here .

You can also check out other ways to get from CDG to Disneyland Paris . If you’re coming from Paris directly, then you can check out my article on how to get to Disneyland Paris from Paris .

21. Avoid Driving to Disneyland Paris if You Can

While still on the Disneyland Paris travel tips, one thing you should avoid is driving a car.

At first thought, this might seem like the easiest and most comfortable way to go to Disney, especially if you plan on extending your France road trip but it would be a mistake.

First of all, finding a parking spot can be a nightmare, and that coupled with the high parking fee makes it unworthy.

To give you an idea, parking a motorbike costs around €25, a car costs €30, and campervans cost €30. Of course, if you’re a guest at a Disney hotel, then parking will be free.

22. Wear Comfortable Walking Shoes

One of the best Disneyland Paris tips I can give you is to wear comfortable shoes. You’ll walk A LOT for the entire time you’ll be in Disney, so it’s paramount that you wear comfortable shoes.

This will be the wrong time to bring new shoes if you don’t know how walkable or comfortable they are.

Instead of boots, opt for sneakers, or running shoes, but definitely no heeled shoes.

Me at its a small world - disney

23. Carry a Reusable Travel water bottle

One of the things to pack for Disneyland Paris is a reusable travel water bottle. Just like Paris itself, Disneyland has several drinkable water fountains all around the park to get free water.

Besides saving money on water, you also reduce plastic wastage which is a win-win situation in my book. This is my favorite travel water bottle that you can buy if you don’t have one already.

Final Thoughts on The Best Tips for Disney Paris

Disneyland Paris is no doubt one of the most enchanting places in France, but it can be a bit overwhelming if you don’t know what to expect.

But with these true and tried Disneyland Paris insider tips, you’ll be able to plan your trip well, right from when you start planning your trip to when you reach the park.

NEVER TRAVEL TO PARIS WITHOUT TRAVEL INSURANCE One of the biggest mistakes you’ll ever make when planning a trip to Paris is to forego Travel Insurance ! You might think that it’s expensive, but when you think of how much it will save you when you lose your valuables or even get sick, then you’ll know that it’s NOT that expensive! Unfortunately, things can and do go wrong when you travel. World Nomads offers coverage for more than 150 activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation, and more. If you’re considering travel insurance for your trip, check out World Nomads .

2024 Disneyland Paris Planning Guide

euro disneyland paris trip

Our Disneyland Paris vacation planning guide for 2024 covers info & tips for visiting the theme parks in France, plus hotel reviews, restaurant recommendations, ride ratings, and theme park itineraries. It’s current info and advice, with regular revisions based on what’s new & next at DLP and Walt Disney Studios Park. ( Updated December 27, 2023 .)

Disneyland Paris will enter a time of transition in 2024. The 30th Anniversary is over and planned expansion for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, World of Frozen: The Kingdom of Arendelle, has been delayed until 20225. In the meantime, Christmas is being celebrated until January 7, 2024.

The very next day, Disneyland Paris will gradually begin introducing a series of exciting experiences that will add color to cloudy winter days: Disney Symphony of Colours. This seasonal event includes a new nighttime drone sequence, a new daytime show, and brand-new decorations!

To be sure, Disney Symphony of Colours looks like a nice little off-season offering. In particular, the Disney Electrical Sky Parade–a nighttime drone parade in the sky–looks fantastic! This new nighttime show will combine synchronised drones, video projections, lights and fountains across Sleeping Beauty Castle.

However, this seasonal event won’t be nearly on par with the Disneyland Paris 30th Anniversary. Nor should it be–that was a milestone celebration, and this is a wintertime event. Beyond Disney Symphony of Colours, it’s unknown what Disneyland Paris will do in 2024. Halloween and Christmas celebrations are a given, but those won’t begin until September.

In between, there’s the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. That will be a  huge  deal for the city, and as the biggest tourist destination in Europe, the games are likely to draw huge crowds to Disneyland Paris. It’s our expectation that the parks will do something to celebrate–and help absorb the crowds–we just don’t know what.

As mentioned above, the new Frozen land in Walt Disney Studios Park (WDSP) was supposed to be done in time for the Olympics. Instead, it looks like WDSP will be a vertiable construction zone, with the front of the park torn up and construction ongoing on the lake, new areas and attractions.

euro disneyland paris trip

The good news is that Disneyland Paris continues to make progress in expanding and adding new things. The park has brought back “Disney Stars on Parade” and “Disney Illuminations,” and has been rolling out more new entertainment, including “Together: A Pixar Musical Adventure” and more.

The only modification still in place (for now) is that an online reservation system is in use to manage attendance. Guests who purchase dated tickets to Disneyland Paris or Walt Disney Studios Park do not need to register and reserve a date. Likewise, guests with hotel + ticket packages that include park admittance will receive admission for the duration of their stay and do not need to use the new online reservation system.

There’s also been an overhaul of the Annual Pass program, which essentially amounts to a nearly 50% price increase coupled with a reduction of benefits. Suffice to say, diehard fans have been upset, with a petition gaining traction along with threats to protest. But that probably isn’t relevant to the overwhelming majority of people reading this Disneyland Paris planning guide.

euro disneyland paris trip

Whether you are considering a day at Disneyland Paris–the most popular tourist destination in Europe–as part of a non-Disney trip to France, or are a huge Disney fan planning an international trip for Disneyland Paris, this guide has you covered. We will detail everything from hotels to dining, and answer the important question of when is a good time to visit Disneyland Paris?

First, a bit of a primer about Disneyland Paris. Located in Marne-la-Vallée, which is actually a suburb of Paris, Disneyland Paris is about 45 minutes from the city center by train–and significantly closer to Charles de Gaulle Airport. The entire resort consists of 7 official Disney-themed hotels, several partner hotels, the Disney Village entertainment and shopping district, and the two parks: Parc Disneyland and the Walt Disney Studios Park.

The resort as a whole of Disneyland Paris is larger than Disneyland Resort and smaller than Walt Disney World. While we’d never recommend visiting France and only seeing Disneyland Paris, it is a bona fide vacation destination in itself if you wanted to make it one. Moreover, Parc Disneyland is an absolutely amazing theme park, much like the original Disneyland, albeit with far fewer rides. It does have a treasure trove of beautiful details, seasonal entertainment, and much more.

In fact, in our Best & Worst Disney Theme Parks in the World post, Parc Disneyland ranks #4, ahead of popular parks like Disney California Adventure and Epcot. It mostly scores so high because of its beauty. Before I get ahead of myself gushing over Disneyland Paris’ beauty, let’s cover the question of when you should visit Disneyland Paris…

When to Visit Disneyland Paris?

euro disneyland paris trip

If you have your choice of dates and seasons for visiting Disneyland Paris, our strong recommendation would be to visit Disneyland Paris during spring, fall, or winter, particularly during shoulder seasons outside of France’s peak tourist seasons. In particular, we love Christmas at Disneyland Paris (see this Info & Tips post) , which is a great time to visit so long as you avoid Christmas week through New Year’s Eve.

We typically recommend avoiding the months of June through August, both because of crowds and recent heat waves that have swept over Europe the last couple summers. The only downside to not visiting during the summer is missing the Lion King Jungle Festival, which draws rave reviews. However, nothing is worth the poor weather and crowds.

Speaking of which, we find the weather to be best in Paris in April and May, and late September through November. These are the most temperate times of the year, and even though it can snow in the winter, it’s usually not too cold in mid-November. (Mid-to late December might be pushing your luck, though.)

Christmas is an excellent time to visit Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park for a flurry of additional seasonal entertainment, and for the beautiful decorations all around the park. Plus, you cannot beat the feel of the City of Paris during the holiday months.

euro disneyland paris trip

If you’re thinking more long-term, there’s also the question of whether to visit in 2024 or to wait. Disneyland Paris has huge long-term plans that as part of a $2.5 billion revitalization to the Walt Disney Studios Park (see concept art above) .

This redevelopment of Walt Disney Studios Park will roll out in phases leading up to the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics through 2025 or 2026. The first component was Avengers Campus, which is now open. The Kingdom of Arendelle is up next after that, and is likely to open in Summer 2025.

Another land should be coming after World of Frozen/Arendelle. It’s unclear whether that’s still the plan, though. Previously, a version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge was slated to be built as part of the Walt Disney Studios Park expansion, but it seems like that plan was abandoned after Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge underperformed in the United States.

euro disneyland paris trip

For everything else on the horizon at Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park, consult our Guide to What’s New & Next in 2024 at Disneyland Paris . That covers all of the projects slated for the parks and hotels, when you can expect new attractions to debut, resort closures, and refurbishments.

Now that we know nothing is opening in time for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, we’d recommend visiting Disneyland Paris in the first half of 2024 in order to beat the Olympics crowds. Typically, the host cities of Olympics see bumps in tourism thanks to the marketing value of the games.

It’s not as if Paris needs Olympics coverage to put it on the map, but we’d still expect elevated visitor numbers to France in the second half of 2024 and 2025. Disneyland Paris will likely benefit from that, and see higher crowds as a result.

Of course, there’s a lot to France beyond Disneyland Paris and you should also plan your travel dates around when it’s best to visit other spots on your itinerary. The city of Paris is our second-favorite city in the world, and we highly recommend spending at least several days there.

As for traveling to the rest of France and within Europe, we highly recommend it! We offer extensive travel tips in our Ultimate Guide to Paris, France over on TravelCaffeine.com , our non-Disney travel blog. That’s a good place to start planning the other days of your vacation.

We’ve visited multiple locations in Europe, including Normandy, the Loire Valley, and Côte d’Azur regions of France. Outside of France, we’ve traveled to Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

While we love Disney–and Disneyland Paris–many of these other real-world locations have been the highlights of our trips. Europe is full of amazing places that leave an indelible mark on a person. There’s so much beyond the parks at Disneyland Paris, and truly something for everyone. From history to modern culture to shady red light districts (because we’re so sure Disney fans are into that sort of thing! 😉 ), there’s truly something for everyone.

If this has you tempted to travel to Europe to see Disneyland Paris and other lasting cultural experiences, or if you were already planning a visit and want more info and tips, let’s start planning! (All links open in new tabs, so feel free to click away and head down the rabbit hole!)

How Many Days?

euro disneyland paris trip

Based upon the foregoing, when planning a trip to Disneyland Paris, you should not just plan a quick trip to see Disneyland Resort Paris, but should also plan on visiting at least Paris and another European city or two. On our first trip, we flew into Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris, then spent equal amounts of time in Disneyland Paris and Paris, before taking the Eurostar to London and then flying out of London’s Heathrow airport.

When it comes to Europe as a whole, you should visit for as many days as you can. The reality of things is that vacation time is finite, and travel is costly, so most people probably are looking at maybe a week or so on the vacation. My strong advice would be to try and stretch the trip to at least 10 days even if that requires saving money and vacation time a bit longer.

How much time you’ll want to spend on each leg of your trip is largely a personal question. If you aren’t a Disney fan and are just going for the sake of your kids or because it’s on your list of highlights near Paris, my recommendation would probably be to just go for 1 day, spending it entirely at Parc Disneyland, experiencing some of the best attractions, and enjoying the ambiance.

euro disneyland paris trip

If you are a Disney fan, I’d recommend 3 days at Disneyland Paris. There’s a lot to explore in Parc Disneyland, and the park is incredibly detailed, so planning on allocating 2 or 2.5 days for that park is advisable. On our trips to France, we’ve done as few days as 2 and as many as 5. Two felt like too few, and 5 was too many.

Most people can accomplish the Walt Disney Studios park in half a day or a day. There is an assortment of enjoyable attractions there, but the park is mostly ugly. I wouldn’t downright encourage anyone to skip this park, but it’s not going to be the highlight of anyone’s trip. It’s getting better, and should be a park worthy of the “Disney” name by 2024.

The best part of Walt Disney Studios Park is the La Place de Rémy mini-land, which is like a “Streets of Paris” area based upon Ratatouille. If your interest is piqued in this area, check out my Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy Review and Bistrot Chez Rémy Review . Avengers Campus is also a nice addition, although the industrial style is more of the same at WDSP. Ultimately, if you only have one day to experience Disneyland Paris, skip the Studios and just do the Disneyland park.

euro disneyland paris trip

In addition to time for exploring Parc Disneyland and the Walt Disney Studios Park, you will want to set aside a bit of time to explore the hotels and Disney Village, too. The hotels are pretty cool, whereas Disney Village is a mostly dated, sad take on Downtown Disney. The highlights of Disney Village are Earl of Sandwich and Five Guys, which are great late night meals after the parks close.

Depending upon your level of interest and stamina, seeing these areas can probably be accomplished after the parks close, depending upon what time the parks close. During my visits, even on busier days, the latest the parks closed was 10 pm; many nights the parks closed as early as 7 pm.

Most Parisians eat late dinners, so hotel restaurants are frequently open until 11 pm or 12 am (with the bars and lounges open even later), giving us ample time to enjoy the hotels after our days at the park were complete. During the summer months, the parks may be open until 11 pm or midnight, so you may have to find another time to visit the hotels and Disney Village.

Vacation Packages

euro disneyland paris trip

Once you’ve determined how many days to visit Disneyland Paris, you need to decide whether a vacation package is for you. These work a lot like vacation packages at other Disney Parks in that they can contain a hotel, park tickets, and meal plan, or just a hotel stay.

Many of the best discounts for Disneyland Paris bundle these components together. In fact, to save money on a hotel, you almost always have to purchase park tickets from Disneyland Paris (unless you have an Annual Pass). Sometimes, the discount will be for a percentage off the room, sometimes it will include free a Half Board or Full Board Meal Package (more on this below), sometimes it’ll include free park tickets, and sometimes it will include free nights.

For example, Disneyland Paris promotions often include 30% off a room plus free Half Board dining and buy 2 nights get 2 nights free at a hotel. (Both promos include park tickets.) Alternatively, there are hotel discounts available for Annual Passholders of up to 40% off. All of these discounts are pretty representative of what’s generally offered.

euro disneyland paris trip

What further complicates matters is that different versions of the Disneyland Paris website (e.g. the United Kingdom version, Belgium, Germany, etc.) offer different prices for the same promotion. I recently priced out a December trip, and it was ~$120 more expensive on the U.S. site than the U.K. site. Since you can book via any of these sites, regardless of where you live, it’s best to comparison shop among the different versions of the site, and book where it’s cheapest.

This can all be pretty challenging if you’re a newbie, particularly given the language barriers and default currencies on the various Disneyland Paris sites. However, it’s worth it because you’ll save the most money this way. Aside from the comparison shopping to get the best price, planning a Disneyland Paris vacation is easy as compared to a Walt Disney World vacation.

Getting There

euro disneyland paris trip

I’m going to make the assumption that anyone reading this is flying to Europe from overseas, not a European driving to Disneyland Paris for a day trip (if you’re driving and looking for advice…try Google Maps, I guess?). From Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris there are three main options: TGV, RER, or VEA shuttle.

The TGV is the best of these options, and it drops you off right outside Disneyland Paris’ gates. The process is very simple; head to Terminal 2 and purchase a ticket for the TGV at a kiosk in the airport with a destination of “Marne La Vallee Ches.”

This train takes 10 minutes to get from CDG to Disneyland Paris (it’s literally the first stop). The caveats here are that this train is substantially more expensive (one-way ticket prices vary, but are typically $15-30) and there can be over an hour gap between trains. Moreover, we do not recommend buying a ticket for this in advance due to flight delays, customs, etc.

euro disneyland paris trip

The Magical Shuttle is the second-best option, but it stops at a number of hotels (think Disney’s Magical Express). However, it’s convenient and pretty easy. Prices for this vary, but it’s generally the most expensive option. You can book tickets here .

The RER is the final option. This can be time consuming, as you have to go from CDG airport to central Paris and switch lines to head back to Marne-la-Vallee. Both CDG and MLV are outside Paris, so doing this essentially means you have to backtrack. It’d be like taking a flight from Chicago to Detroit with a layover in St. Louis. However, if you’re buying a RER pass or your hotel is on the RER line, this may be your best option. It’s relatively straightforward, it just takes about an hour to accomplish.

If you’re coming from somewhere other than CDG airport, consider the Eurostar train, which also drops you off right outside Disneyland Paris’ gates. We traveled the Eurostar (aka the “Chunnel”) and it was an excellent experience. This is a great way to get to Disneyland Paris if you’re primarily visiting another major city in Europe. What’s especially nice is that a Eurostar station is right in MLV. My assumption is that this was built as part of Disney’s agreement to bring a park to Paris…because there’s no other reason why little ‘ole Marne-la-Vallee would have a Eurostar station.

All of this seems complicated and intimidating at first (at least it did to us), but it’s really simple once you understand the basics.

Where to Stay

euro disneyland paris trip

Disneyland Paris has seven official resorts, with a variety of nearby “off-site” hotels. We have a Disneyland Paris Hotel Comparison post that compares and contrasts the hotels, offering our recommendations on where to stay. We’ll cover some of the same ground below, but if you’re debating which hotel to book, that’s really the post to read.

We’ve stayed in the recently renovated Sequoia Lodge ( click here to read our Sequoia Lodge Review ) and Hotel New York ( click here to read our Hotel New York Review ). We’ve also stayed at Newport Bay Club ( click here to read our Newport Bay Club Review ) and several off-site hotels.

Other hotels include Disneyland Hotel (the flagship Victorian-themed hotel), Hotel Cheyenne (themed to be the ‘streets’ of a Western town), and Hotel Santa Fe (designed with a cold, Southwestern pueblo style). If you were schooled by Count von Count, you probably noticed that I only mention six of the seven resorts. The last, Davy Crockett Ranch, is a campground located a bit further away that I did not visit.

euro disneyland paris trip

Assuming you don’t have a car for your visit to France, you’ll have a few ways to get to and from Disneyland Paris: your feet, taxi, RER train, or shuttle. The 6 on-site hotels can each by accessed by walking (or shuttle). Disneyland Hotel is about a one minute walk from the turnstiles, Hotel New York is ~10 minute walk, Sequoia Lodge is ~12 minute walk, Newport Bay Club is ~15 minute walk, with Hotels Cheyenne and Santa Fe a tad above the 15 minute mark.

In terms of pricing, Hotel Cheyenne and Santa Fe are on the low end of the scale, with ascending prices for Sequoia Lodge, Newport Bay Club, Hotel New York, and finally, Disneyland Hotel. Nightly rates range from ~$100/night for Hotel Santa Fe to over $1,000/night for Disneyland Hotel. Average rates for each hotels are all over the place depending upon what kind of discount you can score.

These price fluctuations can make booking a Disneyland Paris hotel a bit frustrating. Generally speaking, we far prefer staying on-site rather than off-site. However, we are not paying over $400/night for Newport Bay Club or Sequoia Lodge. Conversely, ~$150/night makes those resorts a no-brainer (we’d even be willing to pay around $200/night).

euro disneyland paris trip

Hotel New York has reopened after a multi-year closure for a top to bottom redo during which time it was converted to “Disney’s Hotel New York — The Art of Marvel.”

This new-look resort celebrates 80 years of Marvel storytelling in a typical New York setting, with a contemporary Art Deco style. Disney’s Hotel New York — The Art of Marvel is inspired by a New York art gallery, paying tribute to the city that is home to many iconic Marvel characters and the artists who created them.

euro disneyland paris trip

The next resort to receive a multi-year reimagining is the flagship Disneyland Hotel. This iconic property overlooking Parc Disneyland is currently closed for an ambitious transformation at Disneyland Paris, reopening in Winter 2024 with a royal theme inspired by Disney princesses.

In addition to the room reimagining, the layout of the hotel’s public spaces and equipment in the rooms will also be enhanced. Guests will benefit from a larger pool area, an expanded spa, and updated restaurants & lounges. The totality of which is aimed at earning Disneyland Hotel a five-star rating.

This complete refurbishment is the next step in an ambitious renovation plan for all Disneyland Paris hotels spanning years and more than 5,700 rooms. The ambitious transformation plan demonstrates Disneyland Paris’s ongoing commitment to continually invest in the guest experience and improving the resort. See Reimagined Disneyland Hotel in Paris Opening Date, Concept Art, Room & Restaurant Details  for more info!

Off-Site Lodging

euro disneyland paris trip

We’ve stayed at several off-site hotels in Val d’Europe, which is the first stop from Disneyland Resort Paris on the RER A line. Combining the time it takes to walk from Disneyland Paris to the RER station (3 minutes), the time it took on the train (5-15 minutes, depending upon the train schedule), and the time it took to walk from the station in Val d’Europe to our hotel (3 minutes), you have about a 25 minute commute, at worst. Several of these hotels are also within walking distance of Disneyland Paris (25-35 minute walks, depending upon the hotel).

The whole town of Val d’Europe is relatively new, having been master-planned in conjunction with Disney. It has a Celebration/suburbia vibe to it, but with traditional French stylization. While it doesn’t have the same historical allure of the quaint villages in France, it has its own modern charm and is not too cookie cutter. All of this is to say that the hotels of Val d’Europe are probably solid options if you don’t want to pay the insane prices of Disneyland Paris hotels.

Generally, these hotels in Val d’Europe can be booked for $75-150/night, which makes them (typically) cheaper than Disneyland Paris on-site hotels. You can also walk from some of the hotels to Disneyland Paris (Hipark Serris is the hotel closest to the parks, for what it’s worth), which is much more convenient than taking the RER, we think.

Another option, particularly if you’re spending time elsewhere in France, is Airbnb…

euro disneyland paris trip

We have a post that discusses our Tips for Using Airbnb in case you’re unfamiliar with the service. We’ve used it several times in Europe, including a couple of times in Paris. It’s an inexpensive alternative to a hotel, and nice because it also allows you to live like a local, whether that means doing some laundry halfway through your trip or just going to the market to get fresh produce (and cheese…AND WINE!) to prepare you own meals.

Other than that, the biggest upside is price. You can find sometimes find deals on hotels in Val d’Europe, but deals on nice accommodations are less common in Paris (proper) or other cities. The value proposition of renting your own apartment or flat is significantly greater than booking a hotel.

We’ve had some really great Airbnb experiences all around the world, and wouldn’t hesitate to use it again near Disneyland Paris, or anywhere in Europe, for that matter.

Off-Site v. On-Site?

euro disneyland paris trip

For us, the Disney on-site hotel experience isn’t just about the room. All things considered, the Disney hotels we’ve stayed in at Disneyland Paris are nicer overall than the off-site hotels. Aside from price, the one upside to the Val d’Europe hotels is getting more spacious suites and multi-room villas.

Beyond being immersed in the Disney bubble, there are some perks to staying on-site at Disneyland Paris. The big ones are being within walking distance of the parks, Extra Magic Hours, taking advantage of the Full or Half Board Meal Plans, and exclusive character meets.

By far, the biggest of these is the Extra Magic Hour perk. Guests staying in the Disney-owned hotels are able to enter the parks 2 hours before the general public to experience select attractions every morning. The first hour of Extra Magic Hours is generally pretty dead–it’s easy to get totally empty photos of Main Street, and you can experience attractions like Peter Pan’s Flight with minimal waits.

If you do decide to stay on-site, my unscientific recommendations for hotels would be: Hotel Cheyenne (value), Sequoia Lodge (moderate), or Disneyland Hotel (deluxe). Hotel Cheyenne had a fun feel to it and no pretenses of being artfully designed, likely making it a hotel kids would enjoy. Sequoia Lodge has theming is reminiscent of a National Park lodge, except with Frank Lloyd Wright inspiration oddly found throughout the architecture.

euro disneyland paris trip

If you’re thinking about booking a Disneyland Paris vacation package, you should know about the various Meal Plans the on-site hotels offer. These are sometimes bundled into packages for “free” or available as an add-on.

This is somewhat like the Disney Dining Plan at Walt Disney World, except it uses pre-paid physical vouchers. Disneyland Paris offers Full and Half Board Meal Plans: the Half Board plan includes 1 meal voucher for lunch or dinner, plus a breakfast voucher. The Full Board plan includes 2 meal vouches for lunch and dinner, plus a breakfast voucher.

There are four different tiers to each of these Meal Plans available, escalating in price and what’s included. At the lowest end of the spectrum is the Hotel plan, which includes breakfast and dinner at your hotel only. Standard gives you a choice of 5+ buffet restaurants. Plus provides access to 15+ buffet and table service restaurants. Premium is available at almost every table service restaurant in Disneyland Paris, including character meals.

euro disneyland paris trip

The bottom line with these Meal Plans is that they can be a really good value if you do a little research and book expensive restaurants. For example, even though the Premium Plan is $100+ per person, per night, doing daily meals at places like California Grill and Auberge de Cendrillon could amount to a daily value of over $150. Same goes for the lower tiers.

On the other hand, if you choose an expensive plan and end up doing mostly counter service meals, there’s the potential for losing a lot of money each day on the Disneyland Paris Meal Plans.

Our ultimate take is that the Meal Plans are a good option if dining is an important part of your trip and you plan to do your research ahead of time to determine where to eat (and make reservations ~60 days in advance). If dining isn’t so important or you don’t intend upon doing the research, skip the Disneyland Paris Meals. There’s one big reason for this…

euro disneyland paris trip

The reason is that a lot of the food at Disneyland Paris is not very good. Given that this is France , you’d expect Disneyland Paris to have some stellar dining options. Unfortunately, expectations here don’t comport with reality. Restaurants at Disneyland Paris are not that good and are not that “French.”

The good news is that dining has been improving in the last few years, and we’ve had some good meals at Walt’s – An American Restaurant and Captain Jack’s. Nevertheless, we are still cautious about Disneyland Paris dining, as we’ve had hit or miss success in the ast.

We’ve since tried out many other restaurants at Disneyland Paris, some good, some really bad. The general trend is towards improvement, which is definitely reassuring. For reviews of individual restaurants, read our Disneyland Paris Restaurant Reviews . We also have a Guide to Drinking at Disneyland Paris for those who want to go out after the parks close!

disneyland-paris-bars-lounges-015

If you want to avoid disappointment, we’d recommend approaching dining at Disneyland Paris from the perspective of experiencing restaurants with cool themes. Our Top 10 Themed Restaurants at Disneyland Paris post should help with this.

This is how we have approached dining there, and it has worked pretty well. The two restaurants at which we ate the first time, Walt’s and Captain Jack’s, were beautiful, and worth the experience, even considering the food. Walt’s has a similar feel to Club 33 at Disneyland, and Captain Jack’s overlooks the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, much like Blue Bayou at Disneyland.

euro disneyland paris trip

Counter Service meals are generally okay. It’s about what you’d expect from average counter service restaurants at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. In general, the options are not adventurous, but rather, are stereotypical theme park foods. Lots of pizza, burgers, salads, and fried foods.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, as portion sizes are large and prices are not out of line (by normal Disney standards). In addition, the design of many of these restaurants is truly impressive. Toad Hall features more detail than all of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride at Disneyland, and serves some pretty good fish & chips, too.

In terms of portions, the only portion size that will be smaller in Disneyland Paris is soda. There are no free refills in any restaurant (this is typical of Europe) and soda sizes in general are much smaller. So, if you’re a Coke addict, a trip to Disneyland Paris might prove costly!

Although not as good as what you’ll find in the city of Paris, Disneyland Paris snacks are solid. We highly recommend the Cable Car Bake Shop on Main Street. Not just for its sweets, but also because it’s a beautifully designed, intimate location.

euro disneyland paris trip

One thing to mention so that you don’t get too excited while planning specific places to eat is that Disneyland Paris often closes some of its restaurants depending upon crowds. This has been a huge issue in the last few years, and judging by the calendars published thus far, it will remain a huge problem throughout the rest of this year.

This can be very frustrating for planning purposes, and playing the “ what’s open today? ” game while in the park is equally frustrating, as the signs up indicating which restaurants are open differ from spot to spot. You often don’t know what is open until you walk up to a particular restaurant.

To make matters worse, even the limited slate of restaurants that is open often closes before 5 pm. This means that lines for dinner at the 2-3 restaurants that are open into the evening hours are ridiculously long. We’ve heard frequent reports of guests waiting 45 minutes for a (terrible) burger at Cafe Hyperion. Don’t make that mistake.

euro disneyland paris trip

One of the easiest ways to avoid this issue is to pack snacks and eat dinner in Disney Village. There are several good options there that are all open late, including Earl of Sandwich, McDonald’s, and Five Guys. All of these restaurants are comparable to their U.S. counterparts.

Earl of Sandwich is our favorite pick; it serves most of the same sandwiches as the Earl of Sandwich locations in the United States and is reasonably priced. It’s definitely disappointing to be in one of the world’s greatest food cities and eat at U.S. chains after the park closes, but unfortunately, that’s the sad reality of dining at Disneyland Paris.

Our over-arching recommendation for those with finite travel budgets would be to save your money for dining in the city of Paris and eat on the cheap in Disneyland Paris. You may want to give at least one table service meal a try before adopting this strategy, though.

euro disneyland paris trip

We’ve found that most people visit Disneyland Paris for 2 days, and if that’s your plan, our 1-Day Disneyland Paris Park Itinerary and 1-Day Walt Disney Studios Park Itinerary provide step-by-step touring plans for “perfect” days in each of the parks. If you have 3 days or more, simply explore at a leisurely pace in those additional days.

Additionally, we have tips for buying Disneyland Paris tickets in our Disneyland Paris Ticket Tips & Info post, which covers where to find discount park tickets, and the pros & cons of getting an Annual Pass versus buying single day tickets (it’s a closer call than you might think!). Remember that if you’re staying on-site at a Disneyland Paris hotel, there’s a good chance your package will include park tickets.

Then there’s the attractions. Chances are you’ve visited a Disney theme park some time in your life, and you have an idea of what attractions are worth experiencing. The biggest differences in Disneyland Paris are park design, layout, and level of detail. Many of the attractions are very similar in general nature to their US counterparts.

euro disneyland paris trip

If you’re interested in developing a strategy for attractions or figuring out which to do and which to skip, check out our Disneyland Paris Attractions Guide and our Walt Disney Studios Park Attractions Guide . These guides have ratings for every attraction in Parc Disneyland and WDSP, and our recommendations for doing them.

In general, Disneyland Paris excels because it offers a lot to explore and excellent execution on theme. A die-hard Disney fan will notice differences in many attractions from the US versions, making every attraction a worthwhile experience. A casual guest will probably find that many attractions are “exactly the same” as their US counterparts.

Regardless of where you fall in that spectrum, you will enjoy the details and design if you slow down to enjoy them. That’s what we strongly recommend doing, and that’s how we believe Disneyland Paris is best enjoyed. Spend some time in the shops on Main Street, wander through the restaurants, and look for clues about the backstory.

What About Maintenance?

euro disneyland paris trip

If you’ve done any research into Disneyland Paris, you might’ve already read horror stories about the park’s upkeep. Historically, it has been so bad that we’re dedicating an entire section in this guide to the topic. Thankfully, this is not nearly as big of a problem as it once was. By and large, maintenance at Disneyland Paris is now close to on par with the U.S. Disney Parks.

A dramatic refresh to the entire resort called “Project Sparkle” has revitalized several popular attractions and entire lands. This is finished in the parks and is now continuing with the hotels.

Thankfully, Disneyland Paris has already turned a corner in terms of maintenance and refreshing the park. Now, we are seeing all of the hard work and refurbishments pay off, and Disneyland Paris is sparkling as a result. Let’s just hope it stays that way!

What to Pack

euro disneyland paris trip

The items on our Unique Disney Packing List will be helpful in any of the Disney theme parks. Specific to Paris, one thing you will need is a voltage converter. We highly recommend this BESTEK Portable Travel Converter with multiple outlets. You can find cheaper ones, but they will be larger, heavier, and take up valuable real estate in your suitcase.

Another thing we recommend, particularly if you plan on traveling internationally beyond France, is purchasing a pocket MiFi unit. For years, we rented these when traveling, until we did a bit of research and discovered they’re fairly cheap to purchase.

I bought this Huawei 4G LTE Mobile Wifi Hotspot and then purchased a cheap (~$40 Orange Holiday) 10 GB SIM card at a Relay store in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport when we landed. If you have an unlocked phone, you can just put the SIM card directly into that, but we prefer the MiFi unit so that we can connect multiple devices. We find this to be a more efficient strategy when traveling internationally.

If you are going to be staying in multiple hotels during your European vacation, we highly recommend packing cubes or compression bags (I prefer the cubes) for organization. You can read more of our “carry-on philosophy” and which types of bags we use here . Seriously, this is really critical if you’re going to spend time on the rails or walking through Europe. So much easier than dragging around a ton of luggage!

When packing, also keep in mind that the climate of Paris is not the same as that of Orlando or Anaheim. Paris has legitimate winters, complete with snow and all. If you’re visiting any time from October through March, you should pack for cooler weather. Our Packing for Disney in Winter Guide is a start, but during the height of winter, you will want really warm clothes for many days.

Other Wisdom

euro disneyland paris trip

It should come as no surprise that Europe does not use the US dollar as a currency. You can order euro from your bank prior to your trip, but withdrawing from an ATM is the better and easier route so long as your bank doesn’t charge exorbitant fees. It didn’t used to be the case, but now this is typically the better option.

Ideally, you’ll have a chipped credit card and will use that for the vast majority of your purchases. Chipped cards make international travel a breeze because they largely eliminate the need to deal in cash (besides from street vendors and other “older” retailers that don’t accept cash). We used chipped credit cards throughout our trip and just carried a bit of cash that we almost never used.

Moving on to another important “issue” for many people: smoking. While Disneyland Paris’ website will lead you to believe that smoking is only allowed in designated areas, the reality is that people smoke in every outdoor area. This is part and parcel of European culture, and something to keep in mind if smoke bothers you.

Free wireless internet is now available throughout Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios Park, the Disney Village, and all resort hotels. This is a relatively new development that roughly coincided with the rollout of the official Disneyland Paris app. There’s also free WiFi at the Disney Village McDonald’s and Earl of Sandwich, and most of the off-site hotels.

euro disneyland paris trip

The toilets at Disneyland Paris are all highly advanced prototype “SMRT-1” devices that feature facial recognition, and will greet you by saying, “How do you do, sir/m’am?” It is customary and appropriate to respond to this by saying, “I’m well, how are you?” It is not considered rude to decline to respond to any of the toilet’s additional conversation.

Just kidding on that last tip…although it is a foreign country, it’s not a foreign universe! If you can navigate the US parks, you’ll be fine in Disneyland Paris!

For the most part, this should cover everything you need for planning for a trip to Disneyland Paris. I update this guide regularly based on changes in Disneyland Paris (and I have a Disneyland Paris Annual Pass burning a hole in my pocket, so I plan on making another return trip soon), so rest assured that the information here is current. With that said, if you have any unresolved questions, please feel free to ask in the comments.

If you need help planning your Disneyland Paris vacation beyond this, we recommend contacting an experienced (no fee), Authorized Disney Vacation Planner , which will also help you find the best deals. We are planning on going to London, Normandy and Paris next May/June. We are Disney fans so I would love to give my kids a break from history and museums for a fun day at Disney. I don’t think I want to commit to more than 1 day since it’s not really why we are in Europe. Should we stay near Disneyland or is a straightforward commute from Paris? Is it doable to do just one day? Is a Park Hopper worth it to see both parks? Or should I just suck it up and try and see if we can afford 2 days?

' src=

What are your thoughts on traveling April of 2025? Our April break next year ends on Easter Sunday. Thank you!

' src=

THANK YOU for all of this insight. We went to DLP in late March 2023 with our 8 year old daughter and this guidance was key.

Staying in Serris in an AirBNB was great and felt almost “on-site”, because the village is so themed. There is a little boulangerie on the Main Street that would not be out of place in the parks.

The 30th Anniversary show with the drones was astonishing – I’ve never heard the sound of that many people gasping in unison.

“Un Monde die S’Illumine”, for parents of an 8 year old who had been in pandemic lockdown since she was 5 – the lyrics “We’re gonna dream a little bigger / Laugh a little harder / Sing a little louder now”, were really cathartic and moving. Like an announcement that the world is coming back.

Tom, the Disneyland Paris Restaurant Reviews link remains broken.

' src=

i have never beem to paris

' src=

Thank you for the detail & all of the links to your other articles!! We are planning a very cold early Feb 2024 visit (due to other plans) and when I try to book a hotel package, it won’t let me change the number of ticket days. I need 4 nights and 3 days b ut it will only give my 4 nights and 5 days of tickets. Any experience or tips with this??

' src=

DL Paris isn’t one of the US parks where we can customize our packages! DL Paris makes you buy one more day of ticket than nights of hotel stay. We bought a 4 day ticket with 3 nights for next month. We really only wanted a 3 day and 3 night package.

' src=

I read somewhere online you can call Disney Land Paris and book hotel and tickets seperately as opposed to a package. Maybe that will work?

Ultimate Tips for Visiting Disneyland Paris on a Budget

Ultimate Tips for Visiting Disneyland Paris on a Budget

Disneyland Paris is a magical place however it is not a cheap place. In this guide we round up our best tips for visiting Disneyland Paris on a Budget so Disney is both the happiest place on earth for you and your wallet by covering tips from best places to book and when to book to how to actually save money in Disneyland Paris Parks.

Table of Contents

1. Check all the Countries Websites

I actually discovered this tip accidentally when I was using a VPN on my computer and was redirected to another country’s website. I was shocked to discover that the prices were cheaper than I was getting shown on the UK website.

Visiting Disneyland Paris on a budget - how to save money at Disneyland Paris

Apparently you can use this system even if you want to book via telephone and just quote the price and the website you saw it on. I however haven’t tried this myself as I always do all of my bookings online.

Be sure to Check Package Deals – just in case

It is rare but very occasionally you can find a package deal that would be cheaper than if you booked all the component parts of your trip separately. I would say 9 times out of 10 the booking everything yourself is much cheaper but it is worth having a quick scan just to check as you may find something surprising.

I can’t stress this enough – the earlier you book the better deal you are going to get. Flights, transport and accommodation will get more expensive the closer you get to your travel date. As someone who booked their last trip to Disney with less than a month’s notice I can tell you this from first hand experience and recommend that you don’t follow our example.

Travel in the Off-Peak Season

Crowds at Disneyland Paris - Travel Off Peak to save money at Disneyland Paris

Wherever I am travelling in the world one of the things I always consider is travelling off peak. Off peaks is often cheaper and less crowded so is a win win. Off peak travel to Disneyland Paris is definitely going to save you money but the queues will also be far less. Its a win win.

If you are can’t travel in the true off peak season be sure to try and avoid the school holidays and the weekends as these will be the most expensive and crowded times.

Top tip : Don’t just think about your countries school holiday dates. France, Spain, UK, Germany etc will all have slightly different. Try and avoid all or as many as you can whenever you travel to Disneyland Paris.

How to Get to Disneyland Paris on a Budget

Depending on where you are coming from will depend on how to get to Disneyland Paris on a budget. If you are in Europe like we are now, driving is likely to be the cheapest option. This is what we did when we were travelling to Disneyland Paris from Amsterdam with our  toddler and  it was way cheaper for us than the train or the plane option.

However if you are travelling to Disneyland Paris from the UK or Ireland then you should definitely be shopping around to find out what is the best way to get to Disneyland Paris on a Budget. If you are travelling to Disneyland Paris from the UK then you should be considering:

  • Flying
  • Car and Ferry Crossing
  • Coach Travel

How to Get to Disneyland Paris on a Budget via Eurostar

Eurostar is definitely worth considering if you are travelling to Disneyland Paris from London or its vicinity. If you are considering taking the Eurostar then my top tip is to get this booked early as you are more likely to get cheaper tickets the earlier you buy. Last minute booking will see a surge in pricing

Another top top for travelling to Disneyland Paris on a budget via Eurostar is to get off the train at Paris Gare du Nord rather than booking directly into Disneyland Paris. Booking into Disneyland Paris is definitely more convenient as it means you won’t have to change however it will definitely add a fair bit onto your fare. Changing at Gare du Nord onto local transport. It will add just over an hour to your journey time but will save a lot more money.

For more Disneyland Paris Hacks including how to get from Gare Du Nord to Disneyland Paris  and how to get from Charles de Gaulle to Disneyland Paris check out these post.

How to Get to Disneyland Paris on a Budget If you are Flying or taking the ferry

Flying versus ferry versus Eurostar for cheapest way to get from Disneyland Paris really depends on when you are travelling, how far out you are booking etc. My tips for finding the cheapest method for all of these is book early and if you see a deal fare price book it.

However be sure to compare all methods before you book. We use Skyscanner to compare flight costs , but be sure to have the ferry prices and Eurostar prices open at the same time so you can work out what is actually the cheapest method.

If you are using any form of public transport or flying be sure to factor in the costs of getting to the station or airport (i.e. public transport or will you need to book a taxi because of very early/late flight times etc).

Consider buying an annual pass

This is another one that may have you raising your eyebrow about but bear with me. The cost of a Disneyland Paris annual passes are actually not as expensive as you would expect.

There are actually four levels of annual pass for Disneyland Paris. The Disneyland annual passes are:

  • Magic Flex
  • Magic Plus
  • Infinity

Discover is the cheapest and Infinity is the most expensive. One of the things to watch out for in annual passes is their validity as although they say annual not all passes are truly annual and have some black dates.

However if you are not travelling on one of the black out dates and are travelling a minimum of 3 but definitely 4 days in the park the annual pass will save you money. The annual pass is definitely value if you are spending 4 days in the park and could be if you are spending 3 days in the park but also plan to spend money on food and gifts in the parks then it could also be a saving.

For more information on planning your trip to Disneyland Paris in general check out this post.

If Not Be Sure to Book Your Tickets Online in Advance

If the annual pass doesn’t work as a cost saving to you be sure to book your tickets online in advance. Booking online in advance will save you time when you arrive on site (the queues for the on the day tickets can be massive) and also can save you a lot of money.

I usually recommend booking directly with Disney however it is also worth checking the prices with the following online retailers as you may find a bargain:

  • Viator Disneyland Paris Tickets
  • Get Your Guide Disneyland Paris Tickets
  • Klook Disneyland Paris Tickets.

Stay off-site

There are lots of benefits to staying on-site at Disneyland Paris. You are in really easy walking distance or have a free shuttle into the park. You also get Early Magic Hours (EMH) which basically lets you into the park before the guests staying off site so you can get a lot of the big ticket items done before they get their big queues (i.e. meeting the Princesses in the Princess Pavilion or get on Buzz Lightyear’s Laser Blast). However staying on site comes with a heftier price tag.

If you are looking to travel to Disneyland Paris on a budget then I would recommend not staying on site but instead looking at the accommodation options in Val D’Europe. This is where we stayed on our last trip and it was very convenient. We were one train stop away from the park and our accommodation was a lot cheaper.

We stayed at he Ibis Budget on our last stay and it was basic but we only used to sleep and shower in. It was also exceptionally cheap at less than 90 euros a night for our family. If you are looking to save money at Disneyland Paris then I would recommend looking at the Ibis Budget in Val D’Europe as a great money saver.

You can check reviews and pries for the Ibis Budget here!

There are also Airbnbs and apart hotels available should you want to cater yourself. Val D’Europe is next to the train station and literally takes minutes to get to the park nd is a great option for families visiting Disneyland Paris on a budget.

You can look at reviews for hotels in Val D’Europe here.

I also loved staying at Val D’Europe as well because of the amenities nearby. My favourite was the hypermarket Auchan. This was a great place as we could stock up on snacks and drinks which leads me to my next tip.

Take Food into Disneyland Paris

Disney Food - How to Save Money at Disneyland Paris - Visiting Disneyland Paris on a Budget

For some reason when I was looking online there seemed to be a bit of myth that you can’t take food into Disneyland Paris. This is not true. They do not let you take large hampers or coolers into the park with you but you absolutely can take food into the park.

We found the best food to take into Disneyland Paris to be things that don’t spoil and we use Snack Bags to carry food into the park with us. We had peanut butter sandwiches, Ella’s kitchen pouches, cereal bars and of course drinks.

Drinks and especially water in the park is pricey and if you are travelling during summer you will need a lot of it. Be sure to take with you a collapsible water bottle and refill it at the water stations around the park. This will save you a fair few pennies.

If you or your kids don’t like water, take one of those squeeze concentrate squash  with you to add some flavour into the water and problem solved!

If you do decide to eat the park then the most budget places are the self service restaurants. We ate at Colonel Hathi’s restaurant which was fine, nothing exceptional but cost 15 euros for a meal per adult so it definitely does add up. For a complete breakdown of the cheapest ways to eat Disneyland Paris check out this post. And if you are vegan at Disneyland Paris then check out this guide.

Buy Costumes and Theme T Shirts in Advance

Ultimate Disneyland Paris Tips and Tricks for a PERFECT trip - character meetings and parades

The reaction of Ariel in the parade to see her in her costume

Kids love dressing up to meet their favourite characters and I found that you actually get better interaction during the meeting and also during the parades if you are wearing merchandise relating to a certain character. Costumes and even t shirts are expensive on site so be sure to take your Disney costumes and clothes with you.

We found the cheapest place to buy Themed T-Shirts  for your trip to be Primark. They have a contract with Disney so have loads of merchandise that will be perfect whatever time of year your visit Disneyland Paris.

And while Primark was the cheapest I found for actual clothing, the cheapest place I found for actual Costumes for kids was online at Amazon.co.uk.

Also be sure to grab a pair of Mickey or Minnie Mouse Disney Ears  for the entire family. These seem to be the most popular accessory at the park and I guarantee that your kids are going to want them. Buying these online in advance again will be much cheaper and also look great in your Disneyland Paris Photos!

For more tips on what to wear to Disneyland Paris check out this post.

Also if you prioritising character meetings on your Disneyland Paris Bucket list chances are you will be wanting to get the character autographs. Autograph books in the park are quite pricey so be sure to pack you Disney Autograph Book    and take it with you.

Planning a Trip to Disneyland Paris: Tips & Advice

If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland Paris then this is the guide for you. Whether you’re wondering the best time of the year to go, what to wear, or indeed some of the best-kept secrets of the Disneyland Park in France, then we have you covered.

I recently visited Disneyland Paris for the first time as a twenty-something year old with two of my good friends. Despite grey clouds overhead, we had an amazing time and I highly recommend a visit to families, couples, and friend groups alike as a trip to Disney is easily one of the best day trips from Paris.

Purchase your Disneyland Paris tickets in advance with GetYourGuide.

Planning a Trip to Disneyland Paris: Tips & Advice

Disneyland Park

Walt disney studios park, disney village, purchase your tickets in advance, be prepared to wait, wear comfortable walking shoes, use the disneyland paris app, you aren’t allowed to dress up, visit disneyland park second, decide what rides you want to visit, avoid visiting on national holidays, parking is expensive, bring your own food/ snacks, you don’t need to know french, wear a backpack, if you’re visiting in early spring/ late autumn/ winter, can you visit both parks in one day, is there single rider, is there fastpass, what is disneyland paris like in 2023, is it worth visiting disneyland paris if you don’t like rollercoasters, what else is close to disneyland paris, disneyland paris overview.

Disneyland is a huge sprawling site that comprises of a series of different areas that can be found in the Île de France , making it an easy day trip from Paris. It is easily walkable over the course of around half an hour and so this section will breakdown the different parts of the park, as well as what there is to do in each section.

Disneyland Park, or Parc Disneyland as it is so-called in French is the larger of the two theme park areas of Disneyland Paris. This is the oldest part of the park and is where iconic attractions such as the ‘pink castle’ can be found.

The pink castle is, of co urse, the Sleeping Beauty Castle (Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant) and is a must-see while in the park. Under renovation, and therefore covered by scaffolding, for part of 2021, as of mid-November 2021, Sleeping Beauty’s Castle is once more available to see.

main street disneyland paris

Disneyland Park is also gorgeous to visit as it is home to Main Street USA. This is the first place you visit once you enter Disneyland Park and is meant to resemble US towns of the early 20th-century. This part of the park is home to restaurants and boutiques.

The entirety of the Disneyland park is centred around the Sleeping Beauty Castle, with lands to the North, East, South, and West.

Main Street USA is where the Parade takes place. The four themed lands are Fantasyland (mainly rides geared towards young children), Frontierland, Discoveryland (named Tomorrowland in California), and Adventureland.

Disneyland Park

The smaller and newer of the two theme park areas at Disneyland is the Walt Disney Studios Park. This part of the park includes rides related to Walt Disney Studios movies and so it’s here where you’ll find the Toy Stories Rides, Cars rides etc.

Walt Disney Studios Park feels a bit older than the other parts of Disneyland Paris and doesn’t really have the same kind of ‘magical’ feel as the rest of the lands. Of note, there is a Marvel rides section of the park which opened in 2022 and is a new fan favourite.

Walt Disney Studios Park

Outside of the two parks, there is a small shopping area that includes merchandise shops, eateries, and other entertainment venues. This is similar to Disney Springs and Downtown Disney in the USA parks.

If you’re travelling from further away and are in France to see Disneyland as opposed to the city of Paris, then there is a hotel area of the park comprising of six hotels. There are also two newer hotels, though they’re located a little further away from the rest of the Disneyland Park.

Disneyland Paris tips

If it’s your first trip to Disneyland Paris, then there are a number of things to know before visiting. Having recently enjoyed the park for the first time, there were some things that I wish I had known sooner!

If you’re planning a visit to Disneyland, then you should know that my number one travel tip would be to reserve your tickets in advance. This will save you from wasting time waiting in line to purchase tickets. Purchase your Disneyland Paris tickets in advance with GetYourGuide.

If there’s one thing that I had no idea about prior to visiting Disneyland Paris, it’s that you should be prepared for a day of waiting.

Unless you purchase Premier Access (which is on a per ride basis and can easily add up to a small fortune), then you should be prepared to wait between 5 minutes to over 2 hours between rides.

If available and you don’t mind splitting up from your friends and sitting alone on a ride, then Single Rider access to rides can have a much shorter waiting time.

For example, to access the Ratatouille ride it would have taken us 60 minutes as a group. Going as single riders meant that we only had to wait for 25 minutes.

As I just mentioned, you can often be waiting for a long time in order to access certain rides. As such, I would recommend wearing your comfiest trainers and avoid wearing any shoes that might cause discomfort during the day. I also managed to walk over 20,000 steps during my time by simply walking around the site.

One of the most invaluable tips for visiting Disneyland Paris that I received was to download the Disneyland Paris app prior to my visit.

The app gives you a list of all the rides that are currently in operation (rides can often close at short notice throughout the day) and how long the wait times are.

The map available will also show you which rides are currently allowing Single riders (though it unfortunately doesn’t give you the single rider waiting times) and will tell you how long the queue for each ride will take.

disneyland paris toy story dinosaur

Guests over the age of 12 aren’t allowed to wear costumes to visit the park. Luckily, if you’re creative, you can still wear outfits ‘in the vein of’ your favourite characters. This is called ‘Disney Bounding’ and you can read more about it here.

You can also purchase Disney ears at most of the shops throughout the parks (though you might be allowed to take them off for certain rides). People of all ages wear Disney ears.

As well as the classic Minnie ears, there are special releases of Disney ears and I personally love my purple sparkly ones. If you’re looking to purchase a souvenir from your time at Disneyland Paris, I highly suggest making it a pair of ears that you can wear on your next Disney trip, wherever that may be.

If you’re planning on visiting both attraction parks in one day, visit Disneyland Park after visiting Walt Disney Studios Park. Disneyland Park closes much later and has more to see/ do.

If you’re only visiting Disneyland Paris for a day (and especially if you’re planning on visiting both parks over the course of a day) , then you won’t be able to go on all of the rides. This can be disappointing to hear, but of course gives you the excuse to go back to Disneyland Paris in the future!

Get each person in your group to decide which rides they would most like to go on and focus on visiting those ones first so as to ensure that you have time to queue and go on them.

I would also recommend trying to go on the most popular rides (such as Ratatouille and Space Mountain) earlier in the day as these rides tend to have the longest lines.

If you want to visit Disneyland Paris and have the best chance at avoiding long queues to go on each attraction, then I would recommend avoiding French holidays. Since Disneyland Paris is so easy to reach from the UK, then I would also recommend avoiding UK bank holidays too. Avoid weekends too if you can help it!

Parking at Disneyland Paris costs €30 and motorbikes cost €20. As such, if you’re able to visit the park by public transportation, then this is likely a much easier and stress-free option.

The closest train station to Disneyland Paris is Marne-la-Valée-Chessy which is around a two-minute walk away from the entrance to the park. The station is on the RER A and provides a direct connection to central Paris in around 45 minutes.

disneyland paris toy park

I won’t be the first to say that the quality of the food at Disneyland Paris is not the best! There are two options when it comes to eating at DLP. The first is that you can sit in a restaurant (book in advance as space can fill up fast) , though this will set you back at least €30 per person.

The other option is to get food to go from one of the many vans/ stalls/ fast food joints from across the park. However, the vast majority of these options are unhealthy and pricey, with a hot dog costing €10. There is at least one vegetarian option at every restaurant.

One of the most overlooked Disneyland travel tips by first timers is that you can bring your own food and drink into the park (alcohol is not allowed) . While picnics are not looked on fondly, you could still bring snacks and sandwiches into the park with you, which is what we opted to do.

As Disneyland is such an international destination, you don’t need to have any knowledge of French. All signs and attractions throughout both parks are bilingual (the information is available in both French and English) . All staff members also speak good English.

Suggested packing/ what to wear at Disneyland Paris

Whether you want to bring an extra sweater in case of cold or if you’re looking to bring snacks, then be sure to bring a backpack. Bring a backpack that’s small enough to fit in the seat at your feet to go on the rides.

One of the most random facts about Disneyland Paris is that the original idea for the Europe site would be that it would be in a warmer climate to match the sites in the USA. However, Paris ultimately won the bid due to its proximity to so many millions of people.

As such, if you visit Paris in the late autumn/ winter/ early spring, then you should be prepared for all seasons. At these times of the year, the weather can change rapidly and you can easily experience rain and blue skies within the space of a single hour.

As such, I highly recommend wearing layers so that you can dress up against the elements as required. Other essentials include an umbrella (a small one to fit in your backpack), a hat, and gloves.

Frequently asked questions about visiting Disneyland Paris

Yes. It is possible to visit both Walt Disney Studios Park and Disneyland Park in one day. They are right next to one another and so just a few minutes walk apart. Both have their own separate entrances that you’ll have to go through in order to access the parks.

With this being said, if I only had the time/ money to visit one park, then I would choose to visit Disneyland Park.

This is the larger of the two parks and also the more traditional as it has a classic ‘Disney’ feel. You could easily spend an entire day exploring just one park, watching all of the shows, and enjoying all of the smaller rides on offer.

disneyland paris boat ride

Due to ongoing world events, the single rider option for rides at Disneyland Paris was closed. However, as of November 2021, single rider is once again available. When you’re on site, use the app to check whether or not single rider is in operation on the day.

For example, when I visited Disneyland with friends, we didn’t have the option to go into a single rider queue for rides such as Crush’s Coaster in the Walt Disney Studios Park or the Big Thunder Mountain ride in Disneyland Park.

FastPass has been retired and so you can no longer acquire it to reduce your wait times for rides. There is now the option to buy Disney Premier Access. Access can be purchased on a per ride basis and is typically priced from €5- €15 per ride. Find out more information here.

There is currently no mandatory mask wearing in the park, though it remains recommended. As of autumn 2021, parades are once more taking place.

As of April 1st, 2022, character meet and greets are once more happening, meaning that a trip to Disneyland Paris is once more quite similar as to what it was like prior to 2020.

Disneyland Paris parade

Yes! There’s something for everyone when it comes to Disneyland Paris. From relaxing riverboat rides to rollercoasters with loops, and everything in-between. I am personally got a greatly big fan of scary/ intense rollercoasters and still had an amazing time!

Disneyland Paris is a short walk (or train/ bus ride) away from La Vallée Village , the most successful designer outlet in France. La Vallée Village is a shopping outlet that comprises of over 110 stores, including plenty of designer French brands.

As well as ‘accessible’ designers such as Sandro, Maje, Levi’s, and Guess, there are also high-end designers such as Gucci, Balenciaga, Prada, and Burberry. La Vallée Village is part of The Bicester Village Shopping Collection Villages.

Wow! Great article! Very comprehensive and spot on! I’m a big French fan and especially a Disneyland Paris specialist, holding an annual pass for over 6 years!

Do you happen to know if there’s a COVID testing site in the Disney Village or at any of the on-site hotels for travelers who need a negative test to return the their home country?

There was one in the Village but I did a quick Google search and when I went on the testing service website (through the link), it said it had been closed down: https://disneylandparis-news.com/en/how-do-i-get-a-pcr-test-during-your-visit-to-disneyland-paris/

Thank you for this. This will help me and my family to plan our trip hopefully in Paris Disney. Well done

Thank you! 🙂

How To Use The Metro In Paris

A fter countless trips to Paris as the founder of En Route to Rêverie , I can confidently say my preferred method of transportation in the city is my own two feet (I guess that’s the New Yorker in me!) However, for times when I need to travel further distances or the weather is uncooperative, I always turn to the Paris Metro.

How to Use the Metro in Paris

This underground train network provides an affordable and efficient way for locals and visitors to get to any part of the city. For a lot of first time visitors the Paris metro system can be a daunting experience. So today I’m sharing a guide to help you navigate the Paris Metro with ease. Be sure to save this video on Instagram as well to bookmark for your next trip.

Related: Paris First Time Visitors Guide

I find the idea of using public transportation abroad can be overwhelming for a lot of people, especially when it’s in a different language! This post will give you all the basic information you need on what the Paris Metro is, how it works, which Paris Metro pass to purchase, and where to buy metro tickets.

I’ll also share some of my tried and true tips so you can confidently navigate one of Europe’s best subway systems. My En Route to Rêverie clients also get additional insights, advice, and guidance on navigating the Paris metro system as well as my most trusted alternative transportation options.

What Is The Metro in Paris

One of the oldest subway systems in the world, the first Paris Métropolitain (or simply Métro) line was opened in 1900, just in time for the World’s Fair. Today, there are 16 interconnected lines (each with a number) and the subway system transports over 4 million passengers per day! This extensive public transportation system is built under the city of Paris and extends out to nearby suburban areas of the city.

The Paris Metro is a densely packed system (there are over 300 Paris metro stations), meaning stations are not too far apart which is great for getting as close as possible to your destination. I personally find the Paris Metro to be one of the most efficient, reliable and affordable subway systems.

It’s important to note that the RATP (the name for Paris’ public transportation system) includes the metro (underground subway), buses, RER Paris regional trains (sort of a metro-rail hybrid), and trains.

Paris Metro Zones

Paris operates on a “zone” system for public transportation. The city and surrounding areas are divided into 5 transportation fare zones (this is different from the 20 neighborhoods or arrondissements!) It’s important to note that the metro zones really only come into play for travel passes. Or if you want to take something other than the Paris Metro – like RER trains or buses. The Paris Metro subway operates exclusively in zones 1-3, with the overwhelming majority of stations in zone 1.

Zones 1-3 include the majority of major tourist attractions in Paris. Most visitors will never even leave zone 1. Here you’ll find most hotels as well as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Arc de Trimophe.

Zone 4 is where you will find Chateau Versailles and Orly Airport. The Paris Metro underground does not reach these destinations. To get to Versailles, you will have to take the RER train to Versailles-Rive Gauche . To get to Orly Airport you will have to take the RER train to Antony and then the OrlyVal train (the airport’s specific automatic train).

Zone 5 is where you will find Charles de Gaulle Airport and Disneyland Paris. To get to CDG Airport you will need to take the RER train to Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 1 (terminals 1 & 3) or Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2  (terminal 2).

To get to Disneyland Paris you will need to take the RER train to Marne-la-Vallée — Chessy.

Paris   Metro  Passes

With such a sprawling RATP network, there are endless public transportation pass options. Below are the Paris travel passes I would most recommend for visitors. Unfortunately (and probably the only major downside of the Paris metro), unlike in other cities you cannot just tap-to-pay with your credit card. You will need to purchase some type of pass.

Single Tickets

One of the easiest options for riding the Paris Metro is a single ticket, or a t+ ticket. A single ticket costs €2,10 and gives you access to travel to any metro station regardless of zone, including metro transfers, as well as the Montmartre funicular. Historically these have been sold as small paper tickets that you can purchase in a packet of 10 (a carnet) for a slight discount, but these paper tickets are being phased out. However if you do use the paper tickets you will need to physically insert the ticket into the gate, it will be validated, the doors will open, then you need to take the ticket with you.

Navigo Easy Pass

As the paper tickets are phased out, the Navigo Easy Pass is far and away the best option for Paris Visitors. It’s similar to an Oyster card in London or a Washington, DC SmarTrip card. It’s a reusable, refillable plastic metro card (no more losing paper tickets!) that costs €2 to purchase – you can then add a single ticket, or a digital packet of 10 tickets at a discount.

With these passes, you will tap them at the gate to open. You will need to purchase your Navigo Easy Card from a booth with an attendant at a metro station, major train station, or CDG airport. And you can reload your pass with a credit card at any of the purple kiosks you see at metro stations.

You cannot share a Navigo Easy pass between multiple people on the same journey. And you will need to purchase a separate ticket to get to the airport, Versailles, or Disneyland Paris via RER. You can purchase those tickets at the RER station.

Navigo Decouverte Pass

This is a bit of a tricky pass, but you can get a lot of bang for your buck if the conditions are right. Similar to the Easy Pass, the Navigo Decouverte is also a reusable, refillable plastic metro card. The difference is that this card is a week-long, unlimited pass for the Paris Metro, all RER trains, all buses and trams. It includes travel to CDG, Disneyland Paris, and Versailles and costs €30 for the week.

The catch is that regardless of when you purchase a weekly pass, coverage is only valid from Monday morning at 12:01AM to Sunday at 11:59 PM. If you buy the pass after Thursday at midnight you cannot use the pass for that current week. Like the Easy Pass, this pass must also be purchased from a booth with an attendant. It costs €5 and also requires a small passport photo (another tricky aspect) so you will need to either bring one with you or use one of the photo booths in the station. Like I said, this pass is complicated but can be an amazing deal if your travel dates line up and you don’t mind the extra hoops.

Paris Visite Pass

The Paris Visite Pass is a multi day pass marketed specifically to visitors and offers unlimited public transportation on the Paris Metro, RER, and buses for 1, 2, 3, or 5 consecutive days. You must select how many days and which zones you’d like access to (either zones 1-3 or all zones). Depending on how much you anticipate taking public transportation this can be a great deal! They also offer discounted passes for children. These are paper passes that can be purchased at the ticket booth or kiosks in metro and RER stations, train stations, airports, and tourist offices.

Where To Buy  Metro  Tickets In  Paris

Metro tickets and passes can be purchased at:

  • Paris metro stations
  • RER stations
  • Train stations (Gare du Nord, Gare de l’Est, Gare de Lyon, Gare d’Austerlitz, Gare Montparnasse, Gare Saint-Lazare)
  • Airports (CDG and Orly)

Keep in mind that travel passes like the Easy Pass and Decouverte need to be initially purchased at a manned ticket booth inside the stations, but then can be topped up at a kiosk. You can still purchase paper tickets at most automatic ticket kiosks. You can always use a credit card to purchase your ticket(s) or pass.

Paris   Metro  Tips

Hold onto your paper ticket.

You need to be in possession of your paper ticket until you’ve finished your ride and left the Metro station for good. Police are regularly checking passengers’ fares. So be sure you always have your proof of payment at the ready otherwise you may land a fine. I know many travelers who have fallen victim to this often forgotten rule! This is another reason why I suggest purchasing the Navigo Easy Pass.

Kids don’t always travel free

While children under 4 ride free, children 4-10 can ride at a 50% discount. Remember, when traveling with kids they need to have their own Navigo Easy pass or their own paper ticket.

Know the Paris Metro operating hours

The Paris Metro operates from 5:30AM to 1:15AM daily. On Friday and Saturday evenings it operates until 2:15AM. Rush hour for the Paris Metro is usually 8 – 9 AM, and 6 – 7:30 PM.

Keep an eye on your things

As in most major metropolitan cities, use caution and exercise good judgement. Keep your personal belongings zipped up and in front of you, important items like wallets and phones should also be in your bag or front pocket. This should be followed for your entire metro experience – not just on the train itself.

Visit the iconic Art Nouveau metro entrances

It’s always such a treat to visit one of the iconic and historic Art Nouveau metro entrances. At the turn of the century, French architect Hector Guimard was hired to design these aesthetically pleases entrances to the city’s brand new metro system. Today, 86 still remain. Some of my favorites include Palais-Royal–Musée-du-Louvre, Cité, and Saint-Michel–Notre-Dame.

You might need to open the door yourself

On most of the metro cars, you will need to manually open the door to get on and off. Only a couple of lines have automatic doors! My tip is to watch how others do it your first time. It’s very easy!

I hope you find this post helpful for your next trip to Paris!
