ocated in South Tangerang, Banten, Pasar Modern Bintaro (Bintaro Modern Market) is a neatly organized traditional farmers' market-style shopping complex and culinary center that offers a wide range of traditional Indonesian foods from different regions. 

Conveniently situated near the residential areas of Bintaro, the market is a popular shopping hub and can get extremely crowded on the weekends. 

How to get there 

As it is located just outside Jakarta, one of the most convenient ways to reach Pasar Modern Bintaro is by train. The closest train station is Jurangmangu Station. 

From there, the journey takes another 30 minutes on foot, or alternatively app-based ride hailing transport can be used to travel the remaining 2 kilometers to the market. 

What to wear

As a farmers' market, albeit with a modern layout, it is best to wear casual clothing, such as jeans, t-shirt and comfortable shoes.  

What to buy

The market is a well-organized complex that houses a wide range of items for the household, as well as basic daily needs. 

Fresh produce, meat, poultry and seafood are available in abundance in the market hall, making it a convenient one-stop shop for groceries. Cured foods can also be easily found, such as different types of salted fish, squid and shrimp, with prices starting at Rp 10,000 (less than US$1) per 100 grams. 

Numerous market stalls also sell condiments and other necessary ingredients for cooking, such as spices, butter, soy sauces and chilies.

There is also Toko-Organik.com, which sells organic foods at a stall inside the market hall, as well as a store outside the hall. In addition to organic fruits and vegetables, there are also health foods, such as imported almond meal and roasted almonds, which cost Rp 100,000 (US$20.7) for 300 grams.

Aside from foods, there are also shops and stalls that sell a wide range of homeware and household necessities, such as cookware, cleaning tools, as well as house decor, wallpaper and curtains. 

Clothing, including Muslim clothing, is also available, with prices ranging from Rp 150,000 to Rp 500,000 for skirts, shirts and dresses. For kids, there are also toy stores offering a wide range of items, including dolls, car toys and balloons. 

For special purchases, the market hall is also home to several jewelry stores, selling an array of accessories made of gold, silver and precious stones.

What to eat 

In addition to being a convenient grocery-shopping destination, the market also hosts a plethora of food vendors, with light snacks, coffee and a wide range of meals readily available. 

One of the most popular establishments is Pastellia, which welcomes guests entering by the north door of the market. Its most popular dish is  siomay , a generously sized fish dumpling that can be served with peanut sauce.

For something sweet, head on over to try Ibu Tati's  kue lumpur , a soft and custard-like bite of cake that comes in five different flavors, namely coconut, jackfruit, pumpkin, yam and pandan. Each cake costs Rp 4,000. Additionally Ibu Tati also offers other traditional sweets such as  dadar gulung  (rolled coconut crepes) and  klepon  (sweet rice balls stuffed with palm sugar). 

Several coffee shops can also be found in the market complex, such as Mata Kopi, which sells its signature  es kopi susu pasar  (market iced milk coffee) for Rp 20,000. 

To satiate your hunger, you can find restaurants selling a wide variety of Indonesian cuisine from the country’s many different regions. Among them is Pecel Pincuk Ibu Ida, located near the south entrance.

Pecel  is a local dish from East Java that consists of veggies drenched in a sweet and spicy peanut sauce with a side of  peyek  (deep-fried savory Javanese cracker with peanuts). Diners can also choose to add side dishes, such as fried chicken,  perkedel kentang  (fried potato patties) and quail eggs skewers. 

Uniquely, the dish is served on a bed of banana leaves on a bamboo  pincuk  (dome-shaped bamboo plate). A basic dish of  pecel  starts at Rp 14,000, with side dishes starting from 3,500. Guests can also take home a generous bowl of  pecel  sauce for Rp 60,000, which can be kept for about two months when stored in the refrigerator. 

For a different choice, there is also Waroeng Garang Asem, which serves the Central Javanese dish  garang asem  (sour and spicy soup) with either chicken or beef. Other delicacies include  gongso  (spicy stir-fry style) tripe or tongue. 

Batak cuisine is also available, with the restaurant Horas offering traditional North Sumatran barbecue pork and  saksang  (a Batak dish made from minced pork stewed in blood, coconut milk and spices). 

• It is recommended to visit early in the morning when all the shops are open and snacks and traditional sweets are still available.

Secretary Mayorkas Announces Extension and Redesignation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status

WASHINGTON —Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas today announced the extension and redesignation of Haiti for Temporary Protected Status for 18 months, from Aug. 4, 2024, to Feb. 3, 2026, due to extraordinary and temporary conditions in Haiti. The corresponding Federal Register Notice provides information about registering for TPS as a new or current beneficiary under Haiti’s extension and redesignation.

After consultation with interagency partners, Secretary Mayorkas determined on June 3, 2024, that an 18-month extension and redesignation of Haiti for TPS is warranted because conditions that support Haiti’s designation are ongoing and that doing so was not contrary to the national interest of the United States. Several regions in Haiti continue to face violence or insecurity, and many have limited access to safety, health care, food, and water. Haiti is particularly prone to flooding and mudslides, and often experiences significant damage due to storms, flooding, and earthquakes. These overlapping humanitarian challenges have resulted in ongoing urgent humanitarian needs.

“We are providing this humanitarian relief to Haitians already present in the United States given the conditions that existed in their home country as of June 3, 2024,” said Secretary Mayorkas. “In doing so, we are realizing the core objective of the TPS law and our obligation to fulfill it.”

The redesignation of Haiti for TPS allows an estimated 309,000 additional Haitian nationals (or individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Haiti) to file initial applications for TPS, if they are otherwise eligible and if they established residence in the United States on or before June 3, 2024, and have continued to reside in the United States since then (“continuous residence”). Eligible individuals who do not have TPS may submit an initial Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status , during the initial registration period that runs from July 1, 2024, through Feb. 3, 2026. Applicants also may apply for TPS-related Employment Authorization Documents and for travel authorization. Applicants can request an EAD by submitting a completed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization , with their Form I-821, or separately later.

Haitians who were not residing in the United States on or before June 3, 2024, are not eligible for such protection, and will face removal to Haiti if they do not establish a legal basis to stay.

The extension of TPS for Haiti allows current beneficiaries to retain TPS through Feb. 3, 2026, if they continue to meet TPS eligibility requirements. Current beneficiaries under TPS for Haiti must re-register in a timely manner during the 60-day re-registration period from July 1, 2024, through Aug. 30, 2024, to ensure they keep their TPS and employment authorization. Re-registration is limited to individuals who previously registered for and were granted TPS under Haiti’s initial designation.

DHS recognizes that not all re-registrants who apply for a new EAD may receive it before their current EAD expires and is automatically extending through Aug. 3, 2025, the validity of certain EADs previously issued under Haiti’s TPS designation. Details will be available on USCIS.gov.

If you have one of these EADs, to get an EAD that is valid after Aug. 3, 2025, you must re-register for TPS and file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization , following the instructions in the Federal Register notice extending and redesignating Haiti for TPS through Feb. 3, 2026. If U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services approves your newly filed Form I-765, USCIS will issue you an EAD valid through Feb. 3, 2026.

USCIS will continue to process pending applications filed under previous TPS designations for Haiti. Individuals with a pending Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status , or a related Form I-765 as of July 1, 2024, do not need to file either application again. If USCIS approves a pending Form I-821 or Form I-765 filed under the previous designation of TPS for Haiti, USCIS will grant the individual TPS through Feb. 3, 2026, and issue an EAD valid through the same date.

The Federal Register Notice explains eligibility criteria, timelines, and procedures necessary for current beneficiaries to re-register and renew EADs, and for new applicants to submit an initial application under the redesignation and apply for an EAD.

This extension and redesignation does not apply for anyone who was not already in the United States on June 3, 2024, and consequences continue to be enforced on those attempting to cross unlawfully or without authorization into the United States. Since the Securing the Border Presidential Proclamation and Interim Final Rule was issued in early June, over 24,000 noncitizens have been removed or returned to more than 20 countries. All irregular migration journeys, especially maritime routes, are extremely dangerous, unforgiving, and often result in loss of life. DHS will continue to enforce U.S. laws and policy throughout the Florida Straits and the Caribbean region, as well as at the southwest border. U.S. policy is to return noncitizens who do not establish a legal basis to remain in the United States.

QuikTrip expands in El Paso with new travel center on East Side

QuikTrip, a leading convenience and gasoline retailer, opened a new travel center in El Paso.

The business opened Thursday, June 27, and is located at 10300 Gateway Blvd. East, off Interstate 10 at Eastlake Boulevard; the travel center offers room at the pumps for 24 cars and six diesel bays for semitrucks with trailers, according to a release from the company.

"We are excited to continue bringing QuikTrip's signature commitment to quality and efficient service to El Paso," said QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager Aisha Jefferson. "Our travel center model will offer a clean and friendly stop for the many travelers driving along Interstate 10 and residents in the area."

This El Paso location is part of QT's broader initiative to serve customers along major highways in West Texas. Earlier this year, QT opened travel centers on Interstate 20 in Monahans and Interstate 40 in Amarillo.

The new location will create around two dozen jobs, with applications accepted online at www.quiktrip.com/store-jobs/ .

The travel center includes full-service QT Kitchens, which offers freshly prepared grab-and-go items and custom-made menu favorites like pretzels, breakfast tacos, BBQ sandwiches and cold-brew coffee.

Perubahan Jadwal Dan Pembatalan

• Perubahan jadwal travel dilakukan maksimal 6 jam sebelum keberangkatan.
• Untuk waktu tuslah atau high season lainnya maksimal pada H-1 keberangkatan.
• Perubahan jadwal travel melebihi batas yang ketentuan, apabila sudah melakukan pembayaran sebelumnya maka akan dipotong biaya sebesar 50%. Untuk high season akan dipotong sebesar 100%.
• Pembatalan sepihak oleh calon penumpang maksimal 6 jam sebelum keberangkatan pada low season. Jika terjadi pada high season atau tuslah sebaiknya pada H-1.
• Pembatalan sepihak oleh calon penumpang akan kena charge biaya 100% dari harga total jika melebihi dari waktu ketentuan.
• Apabila terjadi pembayaran sebelumnya maka akan hangus.
• Pembatalan sepihak oleh calon penumpang saat travel sudah di tempat penjemputan maka ada biaya pembatalan sebesar 100% dari harga total.
• Namun jika terjadi pembayaran sebelumnya maka akan hangus.

Barang Bawaan / Bagasi

• Barang bawaan maksimal yang boleh adalah 1 kardus ukuran kecil / 1 tas ransel ukuran sedang atau koper ukuran sedang.
• Jika barang bawaan calon penumpang melebihi batas maka akan ada biaya tambahan untuk bagasi.
• Jika calon penumpang menolak untuk membayar kelebihan bagasi maka barang tidak akan naik
• Namun jika melakukan pembatalan saat dijemput maka akan kena biaya pembatalan sebesar 100% dari total harga atau pembayaran sebelumnya hangus.
• Dilarang membawa barang bawaan yang berbau tajam, hewan, senjata tajam atau api, dan barang yang dilarang oleh hukum Indonesia.

19 March, 2016   / March 19, 2016, at about 3:43 am local time, a passenger plane "Boeing-737-800" belonging to the airline "flydubai" crashed during a second landing approach at the airport of Rostov-on-Don. All 62 people aboard the plane were killed. Our condolences to the bereaved families and relatives.

History of Rostov-on-Don

Foundation of rostov-on-don.

Long before the foundation of Rostov-on-Don, the first Russian emperor Peter I wanted to build a fortress on the site of the present city to protect the southern borders of the Russian Empire from the raids of the Ottomans and Crimean Tatars. But because of the Treaty of the Pruth, which ended the Russo-Turkish War of 1710-1711, it became impossible as the treaty was a political victory for the Ottoman Empire.

By the decree of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna dated December 15, 1749, the Temernitskaya customs house was founded here, at the mouth of the Temernik River, on the right bank of the Don River in its lower reaches, about 46 kilometers from the mouth of the river, where it flows into the Sea of Azov. In the spring of 1750, a pier, a warehouse, a quarantine, and a garrison barracks were built at the customs.

In 1756, the international “Russian and Constantinople Trading Company” was opened here. Temernitsky port became the only Russian port in the south of the Russian Empire through which trade with the countries of the Black, Aegean and Mediterranean Seas was carried out.

In 1760-1761, the construction of the fortress began to protect the lower reaches of the Don. The garrison of the fortress numbered more than four thousand people. The fortress was originally named after Metropolitan Demetrius of Rostov and Yaroslavl (1652-1709) canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.

More Historical Facts…

Over time, houses for merchants and clergymen, shops, taverns, a prison, and other buildings were built here. The port of Rostov quickly became known in Russia and abroad, attracting more and more Russian and foreign merchants. Foreign goods went from here to the depths of Russia: to Moscow, Smolensk, Kazan, Orenburg, Vyatka, and to numerous fairs.

The fortress had a large garrison, was armed with 238 guns and for half a century was used as a rear base for the Russian troops. The fortress of St. Demetrius of Rostov played a significant role during the Russian-Turkish wars of the second half of the 18th century. During the Russian-Turkish war of 1768-1774, it served as a base for the offensive against Azov.

Rostov-on-Don in the late 18th - 19th centuries

By the end of the 18th century, because of the annexation of the territory of the Crimean Khanate to Russia, the fortress lost its strategic importance, the fortifications were dismantled. In 1779, Catherine II allowed the Crimean Armenians to settle here. They founded the settlement of Nor-Nakhichevan to the east of the fortress. Today, it is the Proletarsky District of Rostov-on-Don.

The name of the fortress and the settlement subsequently changed: the fortress of St. Demetrius, the fortress of Demetrius of Rostov, the Rostov fortress, just Rostov, and finally, to distinguish it from the old Russian town of Rostov the Great located near Yaroslavl, Rostov-on-Don.

In 1811, Rostov received its coat of arms, which depicted a fortress tower, symbolizing the town’s past. After eliminating the danger from the Ottoman Empire and the development of the southern trade routes, Rostov-on-Don found itself in the center of the country’s foreign trade. In 1836, a new Rostov customs house was built, and in 10 years the trade turnover of the Rostov port increased by about 30 times.

By the middle of the 19th century, it became one of the largest export points for grain and iron in the Russian Empire. The rapid growth in freight traffic caused a strong impetus to the development of river shipping and shipbuilding. Rostov was famous for two fairs, some of the biggest in the country. Rostov also had the largest fish market in Russia.

In 1875, with the construction of the Rostov-Vladikavkaz railway, the opening of the first drawbridge over the Don and the first large railway station, Rostov-on-Don turned into one of Russia’s largest railway junctions. In 1887, it was included in the Don Cossack Host Oblast (an administrative-territorial unit populated mostly by Don Cossacks and governed under special conditions), which was the impetus for the further development of industry.

According to the 1897 census, 119,476 people lived in Rostov-on-Don. The following native languages were mentioned: Russian - 94,673, Jewish - 11,183, Ukrainian - 5,612, Polish - 1,444, Armenian - 1,182, German - 1,182, Tatar - 1,172.

Rostov-on-Don in the 20th century and beyond

During the Russian Civil War of 1918-1920, Rostov-on-Don played a prominent role as one of the centers of the anti-Bolshevik White movement. The Soviet period in the history of Rostov-on-Don began on February 11, 1920. In the late 1920s, active construction began in Rostov-on-Don. In 1926, the plant “Rostselmash”, a giant of the Soviet agricultural machine building, was founded.

On November 29, 1935, the country’s largest drama theater with an auditorium for 2,200 seats was opened in the city. The theater building was designed in the shape of a giant tractor. On September 13, 1937, Azov-Black Sea Krai was divided into Krasnodar Krai with the center in Krasnodar and Rostov Oblast with the center in Rostov-on-Don. In 1939, Rostov-on-Don was the 4th most populated city in Soviet Russia - 510 thousand people.

During World War II, German troops occupied Rostov-on-Don twice: in the fall of 1941 and in the summer of 1942. On November 20, 1941, the Germans entered the city for the first time. A week later, on November 28, Soviet troops recaptured the city during the Rostov offensive operation. The liberation of Rostov was the first significant victory of the Red Army in the initial period of the war.

Rostov-on-Don remained Soviet until July 1942, when, after the failure of the Red Army offensive near Kharkov, the German command launched an offensive in the Kuban and the Caucasus. On July 24, 1942, the 17th Army of the Wehrmacht entered Rostov-on-Don. On February 14, 1943, after the victory at Stalingrad, during the general retreat of the Wehrmacht in the southern sector of the Eastern Front, Rostov-on-Don was finally liberated from German troops.

The war caused great damage to Rostov-on-Don, about 12 thousand houses were destroyed. On August 9, 1945, a general plan for the restoration of the city was approved. It was included in the list of the 15 largest and oldest Russian cities to be rebuilt in the first place. By the early 1950s, it was almost completely done.

In the 1970s, the reconstruction of Rostselmash and other large enterprises of the city was carried out. As a result of mass housing construction, large residential areas Western and Northern were built. The area of the city’s housing stock more than doubled in three decades. In 1987, Rostov-on-Don became one of the cities of the USSR with a population of over one million.

After the collapse of the USSR, Rostov-on-Don became one of the largest business centers and the 10th most populous city in Russia. In 1999, its 250th anniversary was celebrated, a lot of architectural monuments were restored.

In 2000, Rostov-on-Don became the center of the Southern Federal District (about 11% of the total population of Russia). In 2008, it was awarded the honorary title “City of Military Glory”. In 2018, Rostov-on-Don hosted five matches of the FIFA World Cup.

Rostov-on-Don is located in the southeastern part of the East European Plain. The city is mostly located on the right bank of the Don River, on the left bank there are some industrial enterprises, shopping and entertainment centers. The distance to the Azov Sea is about 46 km, to the Black Sea - 380 km, to Moscow - 1,130 km. Unofficially, Rostov-on-Don is called the “Gateway to the Caucasus” and the “southern capital of Russia”.

The climate in the city is temperate continental. Winters are mild and with little snow; the average January temperature is minus 3.0 degrees Celsius. Summers are hot, long and dry, with a predominance of sunny weather; the average July temperature is plus 23.4 degrees Celsius.

The historical coat of arms of Rostov-on-Don, adopted in 1811, depicts a tower symbolizing a barrier from the raids of neighboring peoples (the Crimean Tatars and Turks) and weapons of these peoples as war trophies. The City Day of Rostov-on-Don is celebrated on the third Sunday of September.

Rostov-on-Don is one of the largest economically developed cities in the south of Russia. The products of “Rostselmash” (agricultural machinery) cover more than 50% of the Russian market, “Don Tobacco” - 12%. “Rostvertol” is the only enterprise on the territory of the Russian Federation that produces helicopters for various purposes, “Yug Rusi” is known as the largest producer and exporter of sunflower oil.

This city is the largest transport hub in the Southern Federal District of Russia. Platov International Airport, commissioned in December 2017 for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is located about 40 km from Rostov-on-Don and offers regular flights to Moscow, St. Petersburg, Astrakhan, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Sochi, Dubai, Istanbul, and a number of other cities. Several federal and regional highways pass through Rostov-on-Don, including the M-4 “Don” highway, which runs along the outskirts of the eastern side of the city.

Too low traffic capacity of streets and lack of good transport interchanges plus a large traffic flow, especially during peak hours, are the main reasons for frequent traffic jams. Also, the problem of parking for personal vehicles is very acute, especially in the old part of the city, in the center. Cars parked near office buildings occupy a large area of the roadway, which also leads to the creation of traffic jams.
