Bruce Springsteen Launches US Tour Leg: Set List, Video

The Boss is back from Europe. After spending a few weeks performing across the Atlantic Ocean, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band kicked off another leg of North American shows on Thursday night in Pittsburgh.

"Pittsburgh! We finally got here!" Springsteen said from the stage at one point (via Triblive.com ), referencing the fact that the concert had been rescheduled from 2023 due to the singer's then ongoing health issues. Springsteen then resumed touring in June of this year.

You can view a complete set list, plus videos from the show, below.

Springsteen announced the dates for his 2023 European tour in May, explaining on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio that after nearly five years off the road it was time for him to get the band back together. “It’s kind of mind boggling to be honest with you… IT doesn’t feel that long, but,  you know, we stayed busy over that time, but still it’s, I’m really, I’ve got the Jones to play live very badly at this point,” Springsteen said of getting back at it with the band for the first time since they recorded 2020’s  Letter to You  album. “So, I’m deeply looking forward to getting out there in front of our fans.”

The group is gearing up to hit the road for the first time since the conclusion of their 14-month global River Tour, which kicked off in 2016. According to a release announcing the new dates, since the 2023 European dates were announced in May more than 1.2 million tickets have already been sold. After the end of the European run — scheduled for April-July 2023 — the band will begin a second as-yet-unannounced string of North American shows in August; tour dates in the UK are also slated for next year, with the details to be announced soon.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band Announce 2023 North American Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Bruce Springsteen has announced the dates for his long-awaited 2023 North American tour with the E Street Band. It kicks off on Feb. 1 in Tampa, Florida, and wraps up on April 14 in Newark, New Jersey. Ticket sales begin July 20.

Springsteen last played a concert with the E Street Band when their River tour wrapped up on Feb. 25, 2017, at Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. But they haven’t played in North America since September 2016, and their sole live performance of any sort in the past five years took place in 2020 when they did two songs on Saturday Night Live to promote Letter To You . This has been their longest period of time off from the road since Springsteen reunited with the band in 1999 following an 11-year hiatus where he toured both solo and with another backing group.

They were originally slated to hit the road in 2020 to support Letter To You , and dates were later penciled in for 2022, but the pandemic forced them to ultimately delay the tour until 2023. “I’m just aching to play,” Springsteen told SiriusXM’s E Street Radio earlier this year. “Not just play but to travel and see our fans in all those distant cities.”

In that same interview, he said the tour would be a mixture of classics and selections from his newer albums. “it will have a significant amount of some recent material, and then, of course, we’ll play a lot of the music that fans have become familiar with and love to hear,” he said. “It should be a balance… the show should feel contemporary, and it should also make you feel at home at the same time.”

That doesn’t mean he’ll attempt to play many songs from Western Stars . “I’d like to keep it a rock show,” he said. “Once you’re out in an arena or stadium, people have come to see a rock ‘n’ roll show… But you never know, something may squeak in there from that record. It’s not impossible. That one, I’m gonna have to wait and see.”

The tour heads to the U.K. and Europe for a run of stadium shows that run from April 28 through July 25. It then heads back to America for a late summer/early fall stadium run, though those dates have yet to be announced.

Bruce Springsteen, born September 23, 1949, is an American rock singer and songwriter. Hailing proudly from the Jersey Shore, he is known for his literate and poetic lyrics, working-class sentiments, and marathon live shows.

Springsteen is lauded as one of the best songwriters of all time. His lyrics deal with working-class struggles, values, and desires. The verses in Springsteen's songs often tell stories about people who have fallen on hard times. Known for his political and social activism, his song lyrics repeatedly address those issues within the context of the everyday struggles of the common man.

Springsteen is considered an originator of heartland rock, a subgenre of rock music associated with the working class in the Rust Belt and Midwestern US. Other prominent heartland rock musicians include Tom Petty and Bob Segar.

Springsteen grew up in Freehold, New Jersey, with his parents and two younger sisters, Virginia and Pamela. His father held numerous working-class jobs during his lifetime and struggled with mental health issues that became more severe as he aged. Springsteen was a loner throughout his childhood and adolescence, preferring to play his guitar over socializing with his classmates and peers. His family eventually moved to California when Springsteen was 19 years old, but he chose to remain in New Jersey.

After watching an Elvis Presley performance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1956, a 13-year-old Springsteen felt inspired to take up music, and his mother bought him his first guitar. Springsteen began to play publicly at trailer parks and local venues like Elks Lodges. In his early 20s he performed in a string of bands, including the Beatles-influenced Castiles, the hard rock bands Earth and Cream, and the big band Dr. Zoom & the Sonic Boom. He later created the Bruce Springsteen Band, which was the first group to feature legendary saxophonist Clarence Clemons.

Springsteen signed to Columbia Records in 1972 and released two albums in 1973: Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle. The albums were both recorded with his backing band, featuring Danny Federici, Vini Lopez, David Sancious, Garry Tallent, and Clemon. The two albums were met with critical acclaim, but neither was a financial success. Lopez and Sancious soon departed, making way for drummer Max Weinberg and pianist Roy Bittan. The revised line-up, now dubbed The E Street Band, made its debut on Springsteen’s breakthrough album Born to Run in 1975.

Following years of financial and contractual legal disputes with producers, Springsteen didn’t release any material until 1978 with the album Darkness of the Edge of Town. Despite a fresh wave of heartland rock musicians and a new trend toward the punk/new wave scene, the album performed well in the charts and earned good reviews.

Springsteen’s career took off in the 80s. He released the two-LP The River in 1980, featuring the hits “Hungry Heart” and “Fade Away,” the experimental Nebraska in 1982, and the hugely-popular and internationally-acclaimed Born in the U.S.A. in 1984. All performed well, and Born in the U.S.A. sold over 15 million copies and earned the songwriter his first of 20 Grammy Awards.

At the same time, Springsteen and the band staged a long series of impressive and energetic live shows. Springsteen released a five-LP CD box set titled Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band Live/1975-85, which became certified platinum 13 times.

With a swelling fan base, consistent critical acclaim, and considerable commercial success, it seemed Springsteen could do no wrong. The singer continued this trend with the release of Tunnel of Love in 1987, then simultaneously released Human Touch and Lucky Town in 1992. The latter two were recorded with a new back up after Springsteen dissolved the E Street Band in 1989.

Following the release of a Greatest Hits album in early 1995 and another low-key folk album in the same vein as Nebraska titled The Ghost of Tom Joad, Springsteen released a whopping four-CD box set of unreleased material that highlighted the songwriter’s prolific talents. The E Street Band returned for a performance upon Springsteen’s induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which was followed by a world tour and the album Live in New York City.

Springsteen subsequently released the albums The Rising in 2001, a reflection on the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the folk-styled Devils & Dust in 2005, the rock-inspired Magic in 2007 Working on a Dream in 2009; a box-set rerelease of Darkness on the Edge of Town in 2010, Wrecking Ball in 2012, and High Hopes in 2014.

Springsteen released a compilation album titled Chapter and Verse in September 2016 that contained previously-unheard material dating back to the mid-1960s. Following the album's release, Springsteen embarked on The River 2016 Tour. The tour became the highest-grossing global tour of 2016, pulling in nearly US $3 million worldwide. Springsteen penned an autobiography in 2016 as well. The book, titled Born to Run, climbed to the top of the New York Times Best Sellers List.

In late 2018, a live album Springsteen on Broadway was released. The album reached number 11 on the US Billboard chart.

In 2020, Springsteen released the singles "Letter to You" and "Ghosts," leading up to the release of his 20th studio album, Letter to You.

On December 14, 2021, Springsteen gave a surprise performance at the John Henry's Friends benefit concert for autistic children.

Following the release of the singles "Turn Back the Hands of Time," "Do I Love You (Indeed I Do)," "Don't Play That Song," and "Nightshift," Springsteen's most recent studio album was announced in September 2022 and was released that November. Only the Strong Survive featured multiple covers of classic soul songs from the ’60s and ’70s.

After 40 years of cultivating a reputation as a relentless, high-energy performer, Springsteen is still touring regularly. He's headlined nearly 20 tours over the course of his musical career, and is known for his marathon performances. One of his shows at Citizens Bank Park lasted an astonishing 4 hours and 4 minutes.

The singer and musician has maintained remarkable popularity over his prolific career, selling over 64 million albums in the US, 120 million albums worldwide. He has earned 20 Grammy awards, two Golden Globes, and is an inducted member of both the Rock & Roll and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. President Barack Obama awarded Springsteen the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.

In May 2022, Springsteen announced a 2023 international tour with the E Street Band, the first since 2017. The tour will continue across the US through 2023 before heading to Europe. To keep up with Bruce Springsteen tour dates and venues, check out his official website.

Live reviews

True to his ‘everyman’ image, Springsteen is obviously the master of ceremonies no matter who is on stage with him, but he manages to do so without grandstanding. Steven Van Zandt (who will always be Silvio Dante to me) and Nils Lofgren were always at the mic with him. Jake Clemons was allowed to shine on sax in tribute to his late uncle as well. Max Weinberg was always projecting from the big screens that hung above, all while holding things down from the back of the stage. Even when the crowd was yelling “Bruuuuuuce” as he came down the platform into the audience for some crowd surfing during “Hungry Heart”, there was no doubt that the whole thing was a group effort – a true family affair. The audience was the tenth member of the E Street Band as well. When Springsteen’s fingers weren’t on his guitar or snapping and waving around, he used them to slap and shake every outreached hand available to him. “Denver, I got a crush on you!” “I’ve got one question, where are the marijuana gummy bears!” “Let me hear all you mountain girls out there!” I’m sure every audience receives the same treatment, but when he’s in your city, it truly is the only city that matters.

At one point the crowd was tricked into supporting young love; the kind “without consequence or responsibility”. “It doesn’t exist! What are you applauding for?!” he joked, before reassuring the young couples in the crowd with “It’s not the real thing, but it’s a good place to start.” It was just another one of those simple, but profound truths Springsteen is famous for. The production value of the show was simple as well. The open stage allowed the audience to see the band from every angle. The trio of screens were situated up high and were there to augment the view for those in the 300 sections. No pyrotechnics or technological enhancements are need at a Bruce Springsteen show; it really is all about the music. That’s why I couldn’t help but wish the setting had been some place like Red Rocks instead of Pepsi Center. There is something just so real and human and natural about what he does, so it’s kind of sad that it had to take place in a corporate arena. But no matter the venue, we all continued the journey through the second half of The River without pause.

Bruce never disappoints! The usual 31/2 show was 4 hours last night. An apparently Christmas in jersey this year is in August because Santa Claus is coming to town.

Tenth avenue freeze out had Bruce walk/run to ( for the 2nd time in the night) to a platform in the middle of the floor, while the giant screens had a great tribute to band members who left us too soon.

4 lucky fans had a dream come true when Bruce allowed them on stage to sing/dance. The funniest being a sign that said 'who wants to dance with this old bald guy' to which Bruce said, 'I do!' And he danced with him to dancing in the dark... Class act in my opinion.

Now I know he can't play everything, however, no thunder road, glory days or trapped left this fan a little disappointed.

Bruce closed out the show with 'shout' as only Bruce does with a great firework display.

My advice? If you ever have a chance to go to a Bruce show--GO! His shows and set list are different every time and it's one of the best shows you will ever see!! Ive never actually counted but last night was probably somewhere between my 30-40th show and I may just go back next Tuesday. Hope to see you all there!

You can say "there's nothing like seeing this band in concert" about almost any band if you like them enough, but Bruce Springsteen is on a completely different level.

This isn't just a musician. This is The Boss. This is Bruce Springsteen. A Springsteen concert is a unique experience every time. He's not afraid to go deep into his repertoire of songs, but he's also not scared to bust out the big hits when he feels like it. Whether it's 'Thundercrack' or 'I'm on Fire', he tears through every song like a man with true purpose.

It's clear, from the very beginning until the end, that this is a true musician, a true artist. Especially for someone who has been consistently performing for decade after decade, it's a rare and beautiful thing to see someone who still cares about what they do, even when it's a song that he has been performing for more than three decades. There's a reason why he will be remembered for a long, long time.

If you get a chance to see him the way I have, the way that millions have, please do not pass the chance up. If you never see Bruce perform live, you are doing yourself a great disservice.

Very very disappointing, we feel a bit cheated.

Stadium (standing) full of way too drunk people who constantly banged into you and barged in front of you spilling and throwing beer as they went. Folk standing have a full on conversation about Eastenders (honestly!) and shouting and bawling over the top of the "music". Impossible to see The Boss on the stage and struggled to see the big screens (due to said drunks pushing in and standing right in front of you and then point blank refusing to move, some getting stroppy when politely asked to move aside, one woman had her water completely knocked out of her hand beside us by a drunk girl who when reprimanded let loose a tirade of abuse to poor woman - who incidentally had got a shock as the girl came flying from nowhere)

The sound was terrible! The sound seemed to bounce off the stands and caused a really bad echo, which was actually painful to listen to! I struggled to make out which song he was singing quite a few times. Never ever going to Hampden again for a gig, been twice and both were bad. Waste of our hard earned money :( Only plus was the sun shone!

Every concert I have been to to see Bruce has been amazing - Wembley, Milton Keynes, 2 nights running at the Arsenal Stadium (the highlight!), Cardiff, Hyde Park and Coventry. I have been a fan of his since 1980 when I was studying in Freiburg, Germany and met a group of American students doing a Junior Year Abroad - one in particular was a fan and played Bruce to me - I was hooked.

My first concert was at Wembley, "Born in the USA", but the lyrics of earlier albums were the ones that had already seized my heart, especially 4th July, Asbury Park (Sandy). I have experienced so many emotions and especially great happiness listening to his music. It has been impossible to find anyone who can match him live, although I have been to many concerts by other great artists. There is no-one so incredible live as THE BOSS!

chris-wells-25’s profile image

Magnificent! There are very few artists who can play non stop for over three hours and leave you wishing it hadn't finished. I'd go again tomorrow.

He played lots of songs I know, most of his greats, but could have done another hour with some top songs he left out (Born in the USA, I'm on fire, Brilliant Disguise, etc). His voice is as good as it ever was (unlike Rod, Elton, Macca and others of similar age)

Audience interaction was fantastic. One guy came in a Santa suit. Bruce spotted him, got him up on stage and changed the set to do Santa Claus is coming to town, which just rocked the stadium. Lots of other examples throughout the night. A great gig from a great showman, true legend. Seen him twice, about 30 years apart, much better now than he was then.

OMG——HAVE LOVED BRUCE FOREVER!!! The River was my 1 st concert; I think The Rising was next, Devils and Dust, his acoustic tour etc etc. I think It’s been about 6 or 7. NEVER ENOUGH!!! I live in Wisconsin, read that one of our senators—Jon Erpenbach took a second job to follow Bruce’s concerts around. Don’t I wish!! Remember the old master card ads?? Here’s my version concerning Bruce: Tickets—75 dollars, Parking—20 dollars, Feeling like a teenager again for 3 hours: PRICELESS!!!

I first saw Bruce in 1976 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. Next, was at the Hanger in Hazlet, NJ where he just popped in and ended up jamming with Gary US Bonds. Next, saw him in San Diego at Jack Murphy Stadium. Then, he followed me (lol) to Italy where I saw him in Torino. Then he followed me to Iowa (lol) where my husband & I took our daughter to see him in Des Moines. Her first concert. I am waiting to see him again soon, where I will hold a sign saying, I AM A JERSEY GIRL!

Bruce springsteen’s tour starts feb. 1. how much are last-minute tickets.

Singer Bruce Springsteen rocks out on stage with his guitar in hand.

After over six months of waiting, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are finally taking off on their long-awaited 2023 tour.

And while it may have seemed like it would cost a couple semesters’ worth of college tuition to see the Boss live on his first tour since 2016’s “The River Tour” when tickets went on sale last July, we’re happy to report that last-minute ticket prices to see one of the all-time great live bands have cooled off .

In fact, some tickets to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer who brought us “Thunder Road,” “Born In The U.S.A.,” “Spirit In The Night,” “Jungleland,” “Dancing In The Dark,” and so many other classics are only $18 before fees on Vivid Seats.

That may be an outlier, but many seats can be found for much cheaper than the $4000 sticker tags that inspired hundreds of think pieces in summer 2022 about the state of the ticket industry and Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing system.

Great question — we found the lowest prices on upper deck and floor seats for each and every one of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s 33 North American tour dates — although we’re still waiting for his upcoming tour dates that were announced on Feb. 14.

Even better, many ticket prices have dropped since we last reported on Asbury Park’s favorite son in November 2022 , too.

Want to dig a little deeper?

Keep scrolling to find out about the show closest to you.

Bruce Springsteen 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar featuring all dates, venues and links to the cheapest upper deck and floor seats for Bruce Springsteen’s 2023 tour can be found below.

Ticket prices that are cheaper than what we reported in November 2022 are in bold .

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure, and your tickets will be delivered before the event.

Bruce Springsteen setlist

Springsteen, 73, is known for career-spanning three-hour-long sets complete with multiple encores.

However, just what he’ll play live at each show on this tour is a toss-up.

Will the rocker turned Broadway star turned rocker bust out hits from his 1973 classic debut “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.,” 1975’s game-changing “Born To Run,” 1982’s soulful “Nebraska,” the bombastic hit parade “Born In The U.S.A.” or his most recent record 2022’s “Only The Strong Survive?”

We can’t say for sure, but we sifted through the archives and found the ten songs he’s played the most over the years.

Here are our findings — and also our best bets for what he’ll likely play live on this run of shows:

01.) “Born to Run”

02.) “Thunder Road”

03.) “The Promised Land”

04.) “Badlands”

05.) “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out”

06.) “Dancing In The Dark”

07.) “Born In The U.S.A.”

08.) “The Rising”

09.) “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)”

10.) “Hungry Heart”

A complete list of all songs Springsteen has played since he began playing live in 1968 (!) can be found on SetList.FM .

Bruce Springsteen rehearsal

Word on the street is that Springsteen and his E Street Band, which includes Garry Tallent, Roy Bittan, Max Weinberg, Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, Patti Scialfa, Soozie Tyrell, Charles Giordano and Jake Clemons, were allegedly rehearsing at Trenton’s Cure Insurance Arena on Tuesday, Jan. 24 according to the Asbury Park Press .

Allegedly, the practice run was for family and friends, but passersby overheard the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers from outside.

Fans reported that they played “No Surrender” as well as tracks from their most recent records, “Letter to You and “Only the Strong Survive,” in addition to hits from their massive music catalog.

Bruce Springsteen new album “Only The Strong Survive”

Along with the tour, Springsteen and the E Street Band recently released their latest record, “ Only The Strong Survive ,” on Nov. 11, 2022.

The 15-track offering features updated spins on well-known soul classics from legendary labels like Motown and Stax.

“I wanted to make an album where I just sang,” Springsteen said in a statement.

Pitchfork reviewed “Only The Strong Survive” favorably, saying, “Bruce brings heaps of feeling to a new set of some of his favorite, largely obscure soul songs, giving them a confident, faithful, and occasionally synthetic sound.”

An official five-minute music video for the soothing single “Nightshift” can be seen below.

Sea Hear Now 2024 Springsteen concert review: Inside the historic set on N.J. beach

Sea Hear Now Day 1 recap: Noah Kahan brings mammoth N.J. fest into new era

The story of Sea Hear Now 2024 is not a tale of Jersey rock god homecomings, more specifically the deafening spectacle that was Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s first proper Asbury Park concert in 21 years, soaring over the sand and 35,000 fans.

No, it’s a story of patience, progress and power — specifically the power of art to revitalize a shorefront city that suffered more than three decades of crime, poverty and disrepair, and spurred Springsteen’s 2000 dirge “My City of Ruins.”

That song, now a fan favorite, was written for a Christmas benefit concert to assist a town left crumbling after riots in 1970 delivered a devastating blow. But it was local artists who’ve picked up the pieces these last 20 or so years — songwriters and painters and poets who began moving to Asbury Park in the 2000s and slowly reignited its soul. The LGBTQ+ community also embraced the resort-turned-ramshackle town and forged its reputation as a place for love, tolerance and creativity.

Moreover, these people made Asbury Park cool again, and when a place is deemed “cool,” investors come knocking — as do mammoth destination music festivals.

Few will ever understand the city’s fall and rise quite like Springsteen, who has, of course, been a global ambassador for his musical proving ground since his debut album “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.” was released in 1973.

“I feel f---ing old tonight, in a good way,” Springsteen said Sunday night, just before he and his 17-piece band began their encore. “I never thought I’d live to see this sight in my lifetime. The band, we were here on that little street corner when nobody was here, and I didn’t know when I’d see folks in this good town again.”

He went on to thank “all the people that have invested themselves in Asbury Park and brought the city back to life. On the east side, the west side, I want to thank the LGBTQ+ community for all they’ve done for Asbury Park in the last 25 years.”

It was the ultimate full-circle moment, to see the weathered face of Asbury Park, a week before his 75th birthday, so humbled by what had been laid before him, as he performed songs written in, around and about this odd little slice of the Jersey Shore.

“I wrote this song about 500 yards north, on Loch Arbour beach,” Springsteen quipped earlier in his three-hour, 15-minute set, which closed sprawling Sea Hear Now’s sixth year. The song in question was “Blinded By the Light,” released in 1973 — a theme for the first hour of music, as only two songs performed (2002′s “Lonesome Day” and 1978′s “The Promised Land”) were released or written later than ‘73. This was a welcome deviation from the standard setlist of Springsteen’s ongoing international tour, and a nostalgia bomb intended to melt his most devout fans into puddles of undying fervor.

Such was the reaction to “Thundercrack,” the eight-minute beach party jammer and rarity (appearing on “Tracks”) Springsteen said he wrote in nearby Wanamassa, at a surf shop when he was 20 years old. Similar elation swept the sand for the “Greetings” deep cut “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street” and the all-too-apt “Sandy (4th of July, Asbury Park),” where fans could literally point to locales mentioned in the tune (I may or may not have done so for Madame Marie).

Springsteen, who has ostensibly recovered from the peptic ulcer disease that halted his tour last year and likely affected his preceding MetLife Stadium performances, was in top shape this night, balancing his patented Americana conviction with more playful moments: howling at the moon before “Spirit in the Night,” or telling tales of driving through Freehold in the mid-’80s, stopping at a J.J. Newberry’s five and dime and spotting a black velvet portrait of himself, prefacing the tune “Local Hero.”

The Boss was dressed for the special occasion, donning a vest, dress shirt and tie as he led his small army of musicians, whose collective sound was loud enough to be easily heard from Asbury Park High School, a full mile from the stage. This night seemed designed for pianist Roy Bittan and trumpeter Curt Ramm to shine, as both unleashed terrific solos on “82nd Street,” set the seedy mood for “Meeting Across the River” and Bittan’s extension on “Racing in the Street” elevated the fan favorite. Springsteen’s wife and bandmate Patti Scialfa , who has not been seen much on this tour and was revealed last week (via a new upcoming documentary) to have been diagnosed with blood cancer in 2018, emerged to sing a tender duet of “Tougher than the Rest” with Bruce, sharing a microphone.

The band’s swath of fans stretched a quarter-mile down the beach, belting along to “Badlands,” “Because the Night” and “The Rising” before entering the championship rounds with “Thunder Road” into “Meeting” into the cinematic rock mastery of “Jungleland” — Jake Clemons’ sax solo crested over the ocean, past the onlooking boats and toward the horizon — into the fist-pumping glee of “Born to Run.”

It was a night of triumph and exaltation for the band and fans alike, as the magnitude of Springsteen playing Asbury Park was mutually understood, respected and capitalized on for maximum Jersey-to-the-core impact.

It was a best-case scenario and the best Springsteen show I’ve seen since those record-breaking MetLife shows in 2016.

Not to mention this was his fourth performance in less than 24 hours.

Bruce has been busy: Saturday night, he surprised fans at The Stone Pony , taking the stage with Danny Clinch’s (his photographer and one of the festival’s organizer’s) Tangiers Blues Band, running through a handful of covers including a sizzling rendition of Will Bradley Trio’s “Down the Road Apiece.”

Then, Sunday evening, he hopped on the SHN main stage to jam an epic version of his own “Kitty’s Back” with the Trey Anastasio Band, as an overjoyed Anastasio — who grew up in Princeton — noted how his first concert was, of course, The Boss in 1978.

About 45 minutes later, Springsteen popped up yet again, out on the Park Stage in neighboring Bradley Park, where he made his live debut of “History Books,” his new duet with Jersey alt-rock favorites The Gaslight Anthem , and stuck around to play the band’s older single “American Slang,” which he’d also joined them for at Convention Hall in 2011.

So yes, it would appear this was Springsteen’s weekend, a veritable takeover of a festival that also happened to showcase two-dozen other bands and artists — Noah Kahan, 311, The Black Crowes, Kool and the Gang and Norah Jones all performed as well.

But again, Sea Hear Now was, is and will continue to be about the city in which it is housed, and what is the most demonstrative transformation any New Jersey town has undergone this century. The fact that Asbury Park can support this enormous, multi-day, multi-stage event each year (since 2018) is a culmination of its cultural revolution. It is a bold, booming thing to behold.

Let Springsteen sum it up once more: “There I was, driving down Kingsley, streets were empty, buildings were empty, nobody on Ocean Avenue, nobody anywhere. And then, I fell into a dreamy sleep, and when I woke up, I said ‘where did all these f---ing people come from?’”

Bruce Springsteen and E Street at Sea Hear Now in Asbury Park: 5 songs we want to hear

On the road//2 minute read.

Portrait of Chris Jordan

Greetings from Asbury Park, E Street fans.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will headline the Sunday, Sept. 15, Sea Hear Now show on the North Beach in Asbury Park.

“Hurt Somebody” singer-songwriter Noah Kahan headlines the Saturday, Sept. 14, show. Gaslight Anthem, the Trey Anastasio Band, the Black Crowes, Norah Jones, 311, the Revivalists, Kool & The Gang, the Hives and more will play over the two days on the fest’s three stages on the North Beach and in Bradley Park.

There’s also artwork, some by the performers, and surfing at the fest.

One-day and two-day ticket presales begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7. Prices start at $160 for one-day general admission and offerings include GA+, VIP, platinum and ultimate experience tickets via the festival website at www.seahearnowfestival.com .

Springsteen appeared unannounced at the inaugural Sea Hear Now in 2018 with Social Distortion, but performances with the E Street Band in Asbury Park have been rare. The last one was in 2010 at the Carousel House on boardwalk to record the “Songs from the Promise” video and “Live from the Carousel” EP.

The performance was the last time Clarence Clemons appeared with the band before his passing.

The Springsteen and E Street Band Sea Hear Now appearance is looking like it’s going to be a very special night. Several of Springsteen’s classic songs are set on the Asbury Park beachfront. Here’s five that might lead to some very magical moments in Little Eden.

‘Spirit in the Night’

All aboard, and that includes Crazy Janey and Hazy Davy. The warmer the better on the nighttime beach for this lightly swinging jazzy classic from “Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.” The song depicts wanderlust at the Jersey Shore and dancing under the moonlight. That should set the scene perfectly on the North Beach.

‘Seaside Bar Song’

Springsteen has said this jump-rock nugget was written after a trip to the Osprey in Manasquan, but certainly Asbury Park has a few seaside bars. The Stone Pony and Wonder Bar are on Ocean Avenue and the Break, Low Dive, the Watermark and Tim McLoone’s Supper Club are on the city’s boardwalk.

‘Thunder Road’

This classic from the “Born to Run” album doesn’t directly reference Asbury Park, but it would be quite a moment to have the 30,000 or so singing along to it on the beach.

‘Born to Run’

The hemi-powered drones screaming down the boulevard in Asbury Park have been replaced by Ubers, and the Palace Amusements is no more. But you, me and Springsteen and the E Street Band are still here and there’s no place left to hide.

‘4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)’

Fireworks won’t be hailin’ over Little Eden in Sept. 15. It’s the music of Springsteen and the E Street Band that’ll be lighting up the night. Fifty years after its release on “The Wild, the Innocent and the E Street Shuffle,” this ode to leaving the “boardwalk life” of Asbury Park will resound with new spirit if performed. Will it be played? Only Springsteen and Madam Marie know for sure.

Country at the Stone Pony

We’ve got the dirt on an upcoming Stone Pony Summer Stage show.

The Randy Houser and Justin Moore co-headlining “Country Round Here Tonight Tour” is including Asbury Park as one of its 12 shows on Sept. 27.

The tour also hits the Met in Philadelphia on Sept. 28. Moore’s latest song is “This Is My Dirt,” a stirring ballad about a farmer refusing to sell his land to a housing developer.

Moore, an Arkansas native, has an interesting connection to the Jersey Shore. His manager, Pete Hartung, grew up in the area and played in several bands here, including Windfield, the Remakes and the Pete Hartung Band.

He’s even shared a stage with Springsteen at Tim McLoone’s Rum Runner in Sea Bright in 1989.

Tickets for Moore and Houser, starting at $50, are on sale via www.stoneponyonline.com .

REO Speedwagon to retire from touring due to 'irreconcilable differences' between Bruce Hall and Kevin Cronin

The band "will cease touring effective" on Jan. 1, 2025.

REO Speedwagon can't fight this announcement any longer: Their touring days are coming to an end.

The veteran rockers announced Monday that they will stop touring next year, due to "irreconcilable differences" between bassist Bruce Hall and lead vocalist Kevin Cronin.

The band — whose current lineup consists of Hall, Cronin, guitarist Dave Amato, touring keyboardist Derek Hilland, and drummer Bryan Hitt — shared the news on social media , citing issues that date back to November, when Hall exited their tour for back surgery and Matt Bissonette took over as touring bassist.

Despite his health issues, the statement said, "Bruce never had any intention of retiring or walking away from the band, fans, and crew he has loved for almost 50 years." Cronin, who has been weathering his own health complications, also "has never had any intention of leaving the band, and the fans and crew mean the world to him, as well."

Joey Foley/Getty

Still, unspecified issues have arisen, leading the band to call off performance dates past 2024. The statement also cited the involvement of founding member Neal Doughty, who retired from touring last year.

"Due to this complex situation, irreconcilable differences arose between Bruce and Kevin," the band said. "So, it is with great sadness that we announce REO Speedwagon will cease touring effective January 1, 2025. Neal, Kevin, and Bruce thank their fans for all their years of loyal support and for giving back to the band such wonderful memories that will remain with each of them forever."

Representatives for REO Speedwagon declined to comment further.

On Hall's own Facebook page , he posted a separate statement saying he was "heartbroken" over the decision to cease touring.

"Please know Neal and I did everything in our power to try and keep the Wagon rolling," he wrote. "You guys have been very vocal and clear in your wishes for me to return to the stage. Trust me… that's all I wanted too. We all deserved a farewell tour."

Hall added, "For the record, I wanted REO Speedwagon to continue to tour with the lineup of Kevin, myself, Dave, Bryan and Derek. Just as it was prior to my necessary, planned and successful back surgery. I love and will miss you all."

Last week, the band canceled tour dates in Chula Vista, Calif., and Phoenix due to Cronin dealing with an undisclosed illness. Cronin has yet to address Tuesday's announcement on social media but penned a Facebook post from his hospital bed three days prior.

"I am on the mend and will be up and rockin' as soon as the good docs here say it's okay. Until then, I am 100% focused on recuperating," he wrote. "Meanwhile, lying here tethered to various beeping machines, makes a guy think. I have had plenty of free time this past week to appreciate the love in the eyes of my wife and kids, as they have gathered around me here every single day. I have so much more life to live, and have re-examined what I want to do with the rest of my time here, and who I want to be surrounded by while I do it."

Cronin continued, "I need to be lifted by those around me, and in return, to lift them. I feel excited at the prospect of creating and playing the best music I have in me, with the best artists, musicians, and people who will have me. And I promise to continue giving my best, and appreciating the gift of music which has allowed me this life."

Formed in Champaign, Ill., in the late 1960s, REO Speedwagon have sold more than 40 million records and are responsible for a string of '70s and '80s hits, including, "Can't Fight this Feeling," "Keep on Loving You," "Time for Me to Fly," and "Take It on the Run."

The band is still scheduled to perform 19 dates through the end of the year. Having recently wrapped their 44-date summer tour with Train , REO Speedwagon are set to resume live performances Sept. 27 in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Their final show will take place in Lexington, Ky., on Nov. 23.

Heavy Metal legends Iron Maiden have announced an ambitious World tour for 2025 and 2026, one which celebrates 50 years since the U.K. band formed. The Run For Your Lives world tour will see the band perform hits off their first nine studio albums from their 1980 debut Iron Maiden to 1992’s Fear of the Dark (the last album vocalist Bruce Dickinson performed on before exiting the band and then later returning in 1999).

So far Iron Maiden has only revealed the U.K. and European dates for their world tour, which will have the band performing across 27 stadiums between May and August of next year. Provided the tour announcement does list both 2025 and 2026, the band will likely announce a North American leg in addition to other continents in the near future.

Members from Iron Maiden have commented on the upcoming tour, with vocalist Bruce Dickinson stating, “Next year is a very special one for IRON MAIDEN and we’re going to be giving our fans a once-in-a-lifetime live experience. This is a tour that’s gonna put a smile on your face and a cheer in your throat. If you’ve seen us before, then get ready to take that experience to a whole new level. If you’ve never seen us before, then what the hell have you been waiting for? Now’s your chance to find out what you’ve been missing! IRON MAIDEN’s definitely gonna get ya!”

The band’s longtime manager Rod Smallwood also commented stating, “50 years of Maiden and I have seen 46 of them! With well over 100 million albums sold and almost 2500 shows in 64 countries and counting, to countless millions of fans, we are all still loving every second and consider every tour a new challenge to bring something different and exciting to our fans. And for this very special one we’re pulling out all the stops!

While Iron Maiden are no strangers to ambitious world tours, this tour announcement may come as a surprise to some fans, specifically those who’ve speculated the band is nearing its ‘farewell tour’ era. A fair number of bands from the same era as Iron Maiden, namely acts KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, and Aerosmith have all embarked on farewell tours and closed the book on their touring careers. After this announcement it’s clear that Iron Maiden isn’t at that stage quite yet, and they still have a fair amount of gas left in the tank to continue delivering their one of a kind live spectacle.

Bruce Springsteen and E Street play magical three-hour show at Sea Hear Now: Review

3 minute read.

Portrait of Chris Jordan

There’s only one Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and only one Asbury Park beach.

When the two meet, it’s something special.

Springsteen and E Street played a magical three hour-plus rock ‘n’ roll concert Sept. 15 to close the Sea Hear Now music, arts and surfing festival on the city’s North Beach. The night evoked memories, mirth and the childhood mysteries of an oceanfront resort town that can hold one’s imagination for decades.

“Greetings Asbury Park,” said Springsteen when he took the stage.

Sea Hear Now: Here's the complete setlist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

“I wrote this a long time ago about 500 yards north of here in Loch Arbour,” said Springsteen of “Blinded by the Light.”

“I wrote this when I was 20 in a surfboard factory in Wanamassa,” said Springsteen of the ultra rare oldie “Thundercrack.”

The pre-1975 material kept coming, including “Does This Bus Stop at 82nd Street?” and “4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy),” which was dedicated to late band member Danny Federici. The Boss amplified the famous line about Madam Marie . Her granddaughters are still telling fortunes in the Temple of Knowledge, which is about 500 yards south on the boardwalk from the stage where Springsteen was singing.

The songs had a new life and vitality to them, thanks largely to arrangements that included the band’s horn and choir sections. Instead of a scratchy folk rock sound, they swung pretty good.

The band was as sharp as ever. Guitarist Nils Lofgren’s solo on “Because the Night” screamed into the Atlantic Ocean like a seagull on mega steroids. Drummer Max Weinberg’s Bo Diddley beat on “She’s the One”  pounded like fireworks over the beach in July.

Springsteen's wife, Patti Scialfa, returned to the fold. She sang a duet with her husband on the moving “Tougher Than the Rest.” It was her first public appearance since announcing that she’s been battling a rare form of blood cancer for the last few years.

Springsteen’s voice was in extra fine form, including a sweet vibrato on “Meeting Across the River,” which was paired with “Jungleland” for a poignant one-two punch.

The night was windy, the seas were choppy, but the festival sound was loud and clear — and the visuals on four screens were great except for a 20-minute period when they when dark. The crowd cheered when they lit up again during "Thundercrack."

The format of the show did not follow the rocking mortality format of the current tour. This was something special for Asbury Park, the town where the E Street Band was formed more than 50 years ago.

It’s made a comeback in the last 25 or so years . In 1999 when the band rehearsed in Convention Hall for its Reunion Tour, the boardwalk was all but abandoned and the downtown was empty. On Sunday, Springsteen sang for 35,000 on the beach.

“The band was here on that little street corner when nobody was here, and I didn't know when I would see folks in this good town again," Springsteen said, “I just want to take a moment to thank all the people who have invested themselves to bring Asbury Park back to life. On the East Side, on the West Side — I want to thank the LGBTQ plus community for all they did for Asbury Park in the last 25 years. Danny Clinch, I want to thank you for this wonderful event, and most of all I want to thank all of you for being here tonight.

“God bless Asbury Park.”

Before the E Street festival closing set, Springsteen took the same stage with the Trey Anastasio Band for a swinging rendition of his classic “Kitty’s Back.”

“Who’s there way down at the end of beach!” said Springsteen during the song’s break down.

It was one and done with the Anastasio Band.

“We’re going to have to follow Bruce Springsteen on the beach in Asbury Park,” quipped Anastasio, a Princeton native who fronts the band Phish.

Springsteen then headed over to the fest’s Park Stage to join Gaslight Anthem for their set-opening songs “History Books” and “American Slang.”

Springsteen surprise at the Stone Pony

Springsteen performed a surprise half-hour set Sept. 14 at the Stone Pony in Asbury Par k. The Pony show was a Sea Hear Now festival afterparty and the Boss played with the Tangiers Blues Band, featuring Danny Clinch with Robert Randolph and Jake Clemons.

The E Street Band on tour is Max Weinberg, drums; Steven Van Zandt and Nils Lofgren, guitars; Garry Tallent, bass; Roy Bittan and Charles Giordano, keyboards; Jake Clemons, saxophone; Soozie Tyrell, fiddle and vocals; the E Street Band Horns — Curt Ramm and Barry Danielian on trumpet, Eddie Manion on sax, and Ozzie Melendez on trombone; and the E Street Choir — Anthony Almonte, Curtis King, Michelle Moore, Lisa Lowell and Ada Dyer. Almonte also plays percussion.

Springsteen and the members of E Street have played in Asbury Park hundreds of times over the decades, but band performances have been rare in recent years. The last time Springsteen and the E Street Band played together in the city was on Dec. 7, 2010, at the Carousel House on the south end of the boardwalk. The performance, for invited fans and friends, was filmed by Thom Zimny for the “Songs from the Promise” video and recorded for the “Live from the Carousel” EP.

The show was the last time Clarence Clemons played with the band.

In December 2009, Springsteen and the E Street Band performed their 1978 classic “Darkness on the Edge of Town” at the Paramount Theatre, part of the Convention Hall complex on the boardwalk. Zimny filmed the band in the empty theater, and it was released as “Darkness on the Edge of Town: Paramount Theatre, Asbury Park,” part of the “Darkness” 40th anniversary box set.

The Sea Hear Now music, art and surfing festival was founded in 2018 by locals Clinch, who has shot several Springsteen album covers, and promoter Tim Donnelly with Tim Sweetwood of C3 Presents, the team behind multiple big fests, including Lollapalooza.

The Gaslight Anthem, the Trey Anastasio Band, the Black Crowes, Norah Jones, 311, the Revivalists, Kool & The Gang, the Hives and more played over two days on the fest’s three stages on the North Beach and in Bradley Park.

Bruce Willis ’s daughter Tallulah Willis has given an update on her father’s health.

The 30-year-old spoke on the Today Show with hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on Wednesday, September 18, about how The Sixth Sense star is coping with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), which he was diagnosed with last year.

“He’s doing stable, which in this situation is good, and is hard,” she told the talk show hosts. “There’s painful days, but there’s so much love.”

She explained that since the Die Hard actor’s diagnosis, she’s learned to spend her time more wisely and be appreciative of any time she is able to spend with her family, especially her dad.

“It’s really shown me to not take any moment for granted, and I really do think that we’d be best friends,” she said. “I think he’s very proud of me. You have to be in the moment. You have to be present.”

Tallulah Willis has previously spoken out about spreading awareness for her father’s condition, FTD

Tallulah’s interview comes just days after her mother and one of Bruce’s exes, Demi Moore, spoke on The Drew Barrymore Show about how he’s been doing .

“I think he’s doing, you know, given the givens, he is in a stable place,” she told Barrymore. “You know, it’s what I say to my kids is you meet them where they’re at. You don’t hold on to who they were or what you want them to be, but who they are in this moment.

“And from that, there is such beauty and joy and loving and sweetness. When I’m in LA, I go over every week, and I really treasure the time that we all share.”

In March 2022, the actor was diagnosed with aphasia , a language disorder caused by brain damage that can lead to difficulties comprehending, speaking, reading, or writing.

However, one of the actor’s other daughters, Rumer, provided an update last year when she explained her father received a “more specific” diagnosis of frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a “rare and aggressive” form of the disease.

FTD is a wide term used for various brain diseases that mostly affect the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain which are associated with personality, language, and behavior, according to the Mayo Clinic .

Tallulah has previously spoken out about her father’s health before as she said on The Drew Barrymore Show why her family is so open about Bruce’s health. “I think it’s twofold. I think on one hand, it’s who we are as a family,” she said. “But also, it’s really important for us to spread awareness about FTD.”

“If we can take something that we’re struggling with as a family and individually, to help other people, to turn it around, to make something beautiful about it, that’s really special for us.”

Since finding out about her father’s diagnosis, Tallulah has also been diagnosed with autism which she continues to speak out on.

“It was very emotional,” she revealed on the Today Show about being diagnosed at 29 years old. “If I’m being honest, I really hated myself and I thought I was very broken. So to learn that the elements of myself that I thought were maladies or wrong or just too much for this world are actually okay, and they just require a little bit more tools. And it gave me more grace for myself.”
