Bannerghatta National Park Safari: A Day Amongst Nature’s Best
Let me take you on a virtual journey of my recent visit to Bannerghatta National Park. Now, if you’re someone who loves to dive into nature’s embrace every once in a while, this place will resonate with your soul. Trust me, it’s not just another safari, it’s a story.
I’ve been to numerous national parks, but Bannerghatta holds a special place in my heart. Here’s why.
As I approached the park, the subtle chirping of the birds intertwined with the fresh scent of the woods. It felt like I had entered a vast emerald painting.
Immediately, I felt a wave of nostalgia – it reminded me of those childhood trips with my parents where the journey was as mesmerizing as the destination.
Bannerghatta National Park Safari Experience
The safari at Bannerghatta National Park is a highlight , offering an unforgettable encounter with nature. This experience exceeded my expectations, providing a rare opportunity to witness wildlife in its natural habitat.
What sets this safari apart is the thoughtful design of the vehicles. They are crafted to be non-intrusive, ensuring we observe wildlife without disruption. This respect for the park’s inhabitants is further exemplified by the efforts to minimize noise and pollution from the vehicles, reflecting the park’s commitment to conservation.
The sight of a Bengal tiger in its natural glory was the pinnacle of the safari. Seeing such majestic creatures up close, far from their portrayal on television, was mesmerizing.
But the safari is more than just a chance to see big cats. It’s an immersive educational experience that highlights the intricate balance of nature. Observing the diverse habitats and the interdependence of species was like watching a silent, harmonious ballet of the wild.
Additionally, the Butterfly Park at Bannerghatta is a must-visit. This vibrant oasis, brimming with colorful butterflies, is enchanting. It reminded me of the sheer joy of childhood, chasing butterflies, a feeling that this park magnifies a hundredfold.

At Bannerghatta Zoo, I was fortunate to encounter a remarkable array of wildlife, including species I had never seen before. The Himalayan black bear, Indian wolf, striped hyena, and Hamadryas baboon were just a few of the zoo’s many fascinating residents.
What’s more, Bannerghatta Zoo is home to exotic animals from around the globe, including giraffes, zebras, and the rare white tiger. These international species add a unique dimension to the zoo, making it a global showcase of wildlife diversity.

The Bannerghatta Nature Camp is a surprise. Just on the outskirts of a bustling city like Bangalore with its flyovers and late nights and chaotic traffic lies 25,000 acres of carefully preserved jungle. For children and the child in you, it’s an amazing storybook destination brought to life. Bannerghatta has been used as a rehabilitation facility for tigers and lions rescued from circuses. The biggest of its kind, this facility has opened opportunities for India’s first Lion and Tiger Safari. With enclosures that recreate their natural habitat, seeing a giant cat up close, with just the safety of the jeep separating you and the beast, resonates to a very deep part of you.
Bannerghatta National Park is where you should head out when you’ve had enough of the city and would like to get up close with the wild. It has to be seen to be believed. Just about 25 km away from Bangalore and with a treasure trove of wildlife including bears, wild elephants, deer, porcupines, bonnet macaques and a vibrant mix of bird species: it awakens you to the fact that there’s more to life than the usual rat race.
To know that nature can live in its own pace, so close to the grind, is humbling and makes us rethink our callous lifestyles. It reminds us to be a little kinder and instills in children a love for the outdoors. A popular corporate destination, the Bannerghatta Wildlife Nature Camp has all the facilities for off-sites, meetings and seminars. The conference hall can accommodate 30 people.
After you’ve met the animals in their enclosures, you can take a guided nature trek to the herbivore area of the park. One of the Asia’s largest butterfly park is also within the Bannerghatta National Park precincts. After a good trek, there’s nothing like really good food. The Gol Ghar, in typical JLR style serves up a wonderful spread of both non-vegetarian and vegetarian delights. Though local cuisine is a speciality, Continental and Chinese food can be served upon request.
Bannerghatta shares the same climate with Bangalore; only that the green cover that the trees afford makes it more pleasant. Mid-June, July and August, the monsoons turn the trees into lush green canopies while March, April and May are the driest months. With temperatures ranging from 15°C to 28°C.

Can you please confirm if there is elephant ride or not?
Nice article. But please clarify my doubts: You have written safari rate is Rs.260 for adults; Is it for one person or for a group? If it is for a group, please also tell me for a group with how many people they charge this much.
260 is per person for bus safari and zoo entry. Awesome Safari. Totally worth it.

Safari at Bannerghatta will cost you more
BENGALURU: After a gap of two years, the Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) management hiked safari rates, but did not change park entry rates. The revised rates will come into effect from January 1.
The decision was taken by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK) and committee members at a meeting on Thursday. The proposal to hike safari rates was also proposed by Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC), BBP’s safari partners.
While rates have been hiked by Rs 30 for non-AC bus safari, and by Rs 50 for AC bus safari, there is change for the six, seven and eight-seater safari jeep, Innova and AC Xylo for weekdays. However, prices have been increased by Rs 300 for weekends.
Vanashree Vipin Singh, Executive Director, BBP, said rates for family jeep safari package -- including a visit to the zoo, safari ride, butterfly park and camera charges -- have not been hiked for weekdays. “We have done this because we want to encourage people to visit BBP on weekdays. The rush is very high on weekends and sometimes, it is beyond capacity. People take leave on weekdays for family holidays. So why not spare a day for a visit to the zoo,” she said.
She explained that safari rates have been revised because of Rs 40 rise in fuel charges, Rs 40 rise in meat cost, 10 per cent increase in wages to staffers, maintenance charge hike and rise in consumer price index. BBP is self-sustaining, and its expenditure is met from ticket revenue. The ticket for zoo visitors continues to be Rs 100 for adults and Rs 80 for children.
