Anthony evans opens up about the making of "revive".

No.1 Billboard charting Gospel artist Anthony Evans, announces the release of his highly anticipated full-length studio album, "REVIVE." Available now, the 10-track project is a mix of inspiring new original songs and soul-soothing worship songs that are a direct reflection of Evans' painstaking return to a strong, enduring faith after a long season of personal loss, heartache, and doubt.

"Those painful feelings, sense of despair and questioning, like 'Where are you God?' are real, but I have the truth of God's Word, and ultimately chose to believe and continue to move forward," says Evans. "Healing comes from making the decision to move in the direction of His truth and the faith you choose to have, even if our situation dictates otherwise."

Adds Evans, "In spite of my feelings at the time, I made a conscious choice to begin taking steps towards my spiritual, mental, and emotional health. When I started to do that, the work I did was magnified by His grace. It's like what happens when you sing into a microphone. You put forth effort, and it's amplified. That is what God did when I took time to push past feelings of despair and invest in my faith. He amplified my effort.

Two years in the making, "REVIVE" is co-written with Nick Pothoven and co-produced by Grammy Award winning Max Stark (Kirk Franklin, Tori Kelly, Marvin Sapp) and Darrel Walls (Travis Greene, PJ Morton). The album follows on the heels of Evans' 2020 "Altared" - a project that marked his second consecutive #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album chart. While setting his personal music aside for a season to focus on his mental, spiritual, and personal health, Anthony Evans has spent the past couple of years producing vocals along with a number or large tours and live events. Founder of Sherman James Productions, Anthony's skills have also led him to not only producing his own projects but also working alongside some of music's most popular icons. Evans latest projects have included, Grammy winning, multi-platinum artist DJ Khaled- and a long line of legendary figures who have sought out his array of behind-the-scenes talents, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, 2 Chainz, Tyler The Creator, Kirk Franklin, and Tori Kelly.

This year, hosted in multiple cities, Evans will be promoting "REVIVE" in part on the 2024 version of "Fervent," the touring event that he produces along with his sister, NY Times bestselling author and actress Priscilla Shirer. "Fervent" has produced over 40 sold-out events over the past few years. Evans will also be bringing back "Kingdom Legacy Live," an event inspired by the words of his mother, "All of you...together," which features his father, Dr. Tony Evans, and siblings, Chrystal Evans Hurst, Priscilla Evans, and Jonathan Evans. The first "Kingdom Legacy Live" program in 2023 had over 6,000 attendees.

Anthony Evans Releases New Music Video For ‘828’ From Upcoming Album

LOS ANGELES (Jan. 12, 2024) Anthony Evans , No.1 Billboard charting Gospel artist, producer, performer, author, and vocal contractor/arranger for some of music’s most popular icons, announces the upcoming release of his full-length studio album “ REVIVE .” The highly anticipated project will drop globally on Feb. 23 and is available today for preorder with five instant grat tracks alongside the music video premiere for “ 828. ”

“REVIVE” follows on the heels of Evans’ 2020 album “ Altared ” – a project that marked his second consecutive #1 on the Billboard Gospel Album chart. Featuring a mix of inspiring new original songs and soul-soothing worship songs he drew on to survive this time of immense trials, Evan’s heartfelt new album, true to its title and powerfully reflects his painstaking return to a strong, enduring faith after a long season of loss, heartache, and doubt.

While setting his personal music aside for a season to focus on his mental, spiritual, and personal health, Evans has spent the past couple of years producing artist vocals for live events. He has worked on projects for Grammy winning, multi-platinum artist DJ Khaled – the latest in a long line of legendary figures who have sought out his array of behind-the-scenes talents, including Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, 2 Chainz, Tyler The Creator, Kirk Franklin and Tori Kelly .

This year, Evans will be promoting “REVIVE” in part on the 2024 version of “Fervent,” the touring event that he and his sister, NY Times bestselling author and actress Priscilla Shirer , host in multiple cities. He and his company, Sherman James Productions, have produced 40 sold-out events over the past few years. Also, in 2024, Evans will be bringing back “Kingdom Legacy Live,” an event inspired by the words of his mother, “All of you…together,” which features his father, Dr. Tony Evans , and siblings, Chrystal Evans Hurst, Priscilla Evans , and Jonathan Evan s. The first “Kingdom Legacy Live” program in 2023 had over 6,000 attendees.

The Michigan Panthers lead the way with seven selections. St. Louis and Birmingham are tied for second with five selections apiece. Michigan and the Arlington Renegades are the only teams that have at least one player honored on offense, defense and special teams.

Breaking it down by conference, the USFL Conference took the crown with 14 players on the All-UFL team, compared to 12 on the XFL side. The XFL had six players on offense, four on defense and two on special teams. On the USFL side, the conference had five on offense, seven on defense and two on special teams.

Looking back at past all-league teams, there are four players from the XFL last year who made it on the All-UFL team: Butler, Jones-Smith, Panasiuk and Harris. Two players from the All-USFL Team in 2023 were selected this year in Sternberger and Speaks. Chris Odom is the only player from the 2022 All-USFL Team to be selected this year.

There’s no word on when individual awards will be announced. The UFL playoffs start this weekend with the USFL Conference title game between the Michigan Panthers and the Birmingham Stallions taking place on Saturday and the San Antonio Brahmas and St. Louis Battlehawks squaring off Sunday for the XFL Conference title.

Rapsody 'Please Don't Cry'

In her latest album, Please Don't Cry , Rapsody documents her evolution into the next phase of her life.

Rapsody has been in the rap game for over a decade. The North Carolina-born artist is celebrated for her intricate storytelling and skillful wordplay, which have helped her carve out a unique niche. Her music is dominated by themes surrounding respect for hip-hop traditions, empowerment, self-worth, and positivity.

This aesthetic has made Rapsody the poster act of underground rap, lyrical miracle rap, conscious rap, particularly in contrast to the conventional hip-hop artist.

Rapsody has taken a while to feel comfortable in her niche, experiencing fear and discomfort, which she acknowledges in the songs of her latest album, Please Don’t Cry . This fear centers on the vulnerability of showing her imperfections and welcoming grace to liberate her.

“I wanted to shine a light on me,” Rapsody disclosed in our exclusive interview. “So it was all my truth, all my stories. It's just a bunch of honesty. It was therapy. It was me, like through my own permission for myself to allow myself to be human, to give other people permission in the same way.”

The Grammy-nominated emcee spent the past four and a half years documenting her healing journey, elevating her consciousness, developing self-assurance and cultivating deep self-love. The album served as her diary, capturing the many emotions she experienced, which explains the rich, full nature of Please Don’t Cry . It includes 22 tracks and notable features like Phylicia Rashad, Erykah Badu, Lil Wayne, and Hit-Boy.

Her tasteful collaborative choices span multiple genres, featuring an array of artists such as German-American singer Bibi Bourelly, Jamaican reggae artist Keznamdi, Dutch singer Nicole Bus, Alex Isley, Bee-B, DIXSON and Baby Tate.

“When it came to having features at first, I knew I didn't want this feature-heavy, meaning a lot of other voices taking the lead. I knew that I wanted to have a lot of singers on it. I would tell the team if I have a rap feature, it'll only be one, max two. But I wanted singers only because I can't sing, and there was something about soul music that I felt was needed to tell the story because it came from my soul,” said Rapsody.

The soul of Rapsody is one that is strongly anchored in Black pride, an experience she transferred on to the album.

Rapsody - Please Don't Cry Listening Event (NYC)

Opening with the skit “She’s Expecting You,” the album sets a cinematic tone featuring Madison Brim as a receptionist at Phylicia Rashad’s hair salon. Rashad perfectly captures her signature nurturing, matriarchal character, serving as Rapsody’s therapeutic beautician and triggering the rapper's journey of self-discovery.

Described by the Grammy-nominated rapper as the Black "version of Neo talking to the Oracle," Rashad’s role continues until the 22nd track, “Forget Me Not.”

“I felt like I was my own Neo, really trying to find myself and understand and hone my power, but I needed guidance in doing that. That was the purpose of Felicia,” said Rapsody.

Bringing his East Coast storytelling flair, Niko Brim shines on the album with his own "Niko’s Interlude" and a feature on the Lil Wayne song, "Raw."

“I went into every session and would always start the record with no idea if anybody else would be on it,” Rapsody shares in our interview. “It was just like, okay, say what you have to say. Sometimes those stories would be complete with just me, and sometimes those stories needed another frequency, another instrument, somebody else's voice, to really paint the picture and to emotionally touch people in the way that I wanted to.”

A major highlight, not only of the album but also of her career, was working with Lil Wayne, one of her initial rap inspirations.

“When it came to Wayne, he's one of my biggest influences and I have a lot of respect for him. So when I go in and I'm like, yo, I want to do a song about being raw and just us being our most natural selves,” Rapsody recalled.

It appears that Rapsody, whether deliberately or not, targets the stigma in the Black community surrounding mental health, individual expression, and intimacy throughout her album. Her lyrics refute superficial notions of sensuality. In tracks like "D&D" and "3:AM" with Erykah Badu, particularly The Color Purple reference, Rapsody delves into various dimensions of sensuality.

However, in our interview, she insisted that this was unintentional and simply part of her journey of self-discovery.

“I think the most rebellious thing you can do is just to be who you are. Everything that I shared were things that I live and do, right? In doing that and allowing myself to be fearless enough to share those pieces of me, you naturally align with the idea that because I exist, I get to dispel those myths and stereotypes,” Rapsody recalled.

“I've seen conversations where people say or think I don't talk about sex, and I'm like, I've talked about sex, it's just in my way. Let me make it clear for you how you can talk about sex and it still be artistic and still be your version of what that looks like. It still touches people,” Rapsody said. “So, it wasn't as intentional as, ‘I'm going to dispel this myth.’ It's more like, in the music business, not the culture, but the business of music, and especially for women in it, I'm an anomaly. Just me existing is a rebellion in itself. I had to be fearless enough to let people really see me for who I am.”

During her "3:AM" chat with Erykah Badu, Rapsody discusses her upbringing as a Jehovah's Witness, the creation of unconditional love, and considers Badu an ideal role model for this path. She reflects on letting go, her experiences with motherhood and love, and her perspective on time.

Badu shared her insights on the bond between mother and child, highlighting the need to preserve this connection in human relationships.

“I remember my children’s cry being a trigger to me. The slightest thing my back would just go into a spasm. We were connected and have always had that invisible umbilical cord connection,” said Badu.

In a conversation with Sanaa Lathan titled after the Please Don’t Cry song “Stand Tall,” she revealed her battles with anxiety, overcoming hypersexuality, fighting Graves' disease, and using meditation and breathing techniques she learned from Badu.

The two acquaintances discussed their handling of negative social media comments and Rapsody’s habit of veiling herself. Lathan urged the emcee to unveil her true self through this project, applauding her for her multifaceted representation of womanhood.

“The world is really hard right now and you have got to share your art. It is so exceptional. It is so God given that it’s a crime if you don’t share it. I’m so happy that you finally step through that fear and were so vulnerable,” said Lathan.

For the first time, Rapsody embraces a dual identity. As she evolves as an artist, creator, and woman, she alternates between being Rapsody and Marlanna. In our interview, Rapsody disclosed that her rap persona was created to protect Marlanna.

“The monarch of Rapsody was created because it was a way for me to protect Marlana, in a sense. I don't think I completely knew who she was in the beginning. I knew who Rapsody wanted to be. I knew she wanted to be one of the best rappers to ever do it. She wanted to inspire people and make great music and have all these things,” said Rapsody.

She disclosed that she is prepared to transition to using her birth name, Marlanna Evans, in the near future.

“As Marlana goes through life and really gets to know who she is, there were times where I felt like I had outgrown Rapsody. I thought, I'm ready to go by my real name, just Marlana Evans, because they're one and the same now. I don't have to fear anything. I know who I am. I'm ready to walk in that light and allow people to see that fully, not just hide behind music and dope rhymes and metaphors,” said Rapsody.

Now that Rapsody has begun her journey to self-discovery and affirmed her womanhood, Marlanna is set to take the helm. Please Don’t Cry chronicles this journey and marks the onset of a new phase in her life.

Rapsody is scheduled to kick off the Please Don’t Cry North American and European tour this fall, starting with a show in Berlin on September 6th.

Neu-Samara Mennonite Settlement (Samara Oblast, Russia)

Neu-Samara ( Pleshanov ) was a Mennonite settlement in the northern part of the fertile section of Samara , Russia , about 125 miles (210 km) east of the city by the same name. It was founded in 1890 as a daughter settlement of Molotschna and embraced 59,400 acres of land. In 1926 it numbered 3,071 Mennonite and 66 non-Mennonite inhabitants, who lived in twelve villages and five single farms.

The CW has renewed sports drama “ All American ” for a seventh season. The network has also secured broadcast rights for Season 4 of “ The Chosen ” and renewed “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” for Season 11.

A spinoff titled “All American: Homecoming” premiered in 2022, with a third season set to premiere on July 8. The series follows Jordan’s girlfriend Simone (Geffri Maya), who leaves L.A. to attend a historically black college in Atlanta.

After the first three seasons of hit historical drama “The Chosen” made their broadcast debut on the CW in 2023, the network has extended its deal and will air the new fourth season. “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” has been renewed for Season 11. The one-hour competition series sees aspiring magicians try to trick the famous duo, competing for a chance to perform alongside them in Las Vegas. The series is created and executive produced by Penn Jillette, Teller, Peter Adam Golden, Andrew Golder and Lincoln Hiatt in association with 1/17 Productions and DCD Media’s September Films.
