British Tourism & Travel Show 2021 delivers much needed back-to-business buzz

The British Tourism & Travel Show 2021 (BTTS), the first major group travel trade show to return following lockdown, produced a much-needed back to business buzz and a sign that the sector is on the road to recovery.

Taking place at the NEC in Birmingham on 22 and 23 September, the show brought together more than 220 exhibitors representing destinations, visitor attractions, hoteliers and a wide range of tourism suppliers to meet and reconnect with group tour planners and coach operators.

The two-day event was heralded a success by visiting travel trade buyers seeking new opportunities and ideas. Says Tom Cranshaw, head of global product at Vivu Journeys: “It was so great to be meeting suppliers and partners face to face again at the British Tourism & Travel Show. The exhibitors were perfectly matched for me as a UK and Ireland DMC buyer. I picked up some very useful information and formed some great relationships which have already helped in securing new business and opportunities since the show ended. I very much look forward to attending again in 2023!”

Says Martin Laver, managing director of coach tour operator ‘all about Tours’: “After the global issues of the past 18 months, it was great to see BTTS back again. Touching base with many new and old colleagues was worth the visit. We made new contacts for the future and left feeling even more positive about the season ahead!”

Alongside the comprehensive tourism exhibition was a Keynote programme that delivered knowledge-focused content, designed to give visitors actionable insights to take away. Speakers included VisitEngland, the Tourism Alliance, Travlaw, Confederation of Passenger Transport UK, Digital Visitor, lovetovist.com and more.

Commenting on the show, Ross Calladine, head of business support at VisitEngland said: “BTTS 2021 has been important in bringing key industry players together to collaborate and to build back as quickly as possible.”

Kurt Janson, director of the Tourism Alliance, said: “BTTS’s role is vital for the future of the tourism industry. Over the two days it gives a unique chance for people from across the sector to get together, explore opportunities, and to renew and develop relationships”.

Mark Purchase, operations manager with the Confederation of Passenger Transport UK (CPT), says: “It’s really important to have shows like this. BTTS provides the opportunity to speak to a wider audience, and for that audience to see the opportunities that will help them grow their business in the months and years to come.”

Evidencing the value of the show to the industry, Martin Slater from Greatdays Group Travel said: “After facing so many challenges over the last 18 months or so, it’s fair to say we were a little nervous at how one of the largest and most important exhibitions in our diary would go. We were actually amazed at how well attended it was on both days and there was a real buzz of excitement and positivity amongst clients and suppliers, all keen to get back on track and work together to keep this industry going. Our stand was busy throughout each day with firm orders being placed and ideas discussed for future tours from both old and potential new clients. I’m looking forward to booking for 2023.”

Representing one of the many destinations exhibiting at the show, James Wood of Visit Liverpool said: “Liverpool once again had a really productive attendance at British Tourism and Travel Show. We had a steady flow of visitors to our stand over the two days which our ten stand partners appreciated. This has already translated into new business for the city which will further aid our tourism recovery.”

Show organisers Diversified Communications were equally pleased with the show. “We were confident that the industry was ready to reconnect,” says Helen Conway, event director. “From the start there was a real buzz around the hall as people met up, often for the first time in nearly two years. Visitors had travelled from across the UK to attend, a clear indication of the importance of the show to helping the sector build back after what has been, and still is, a really challenging period. The positive energy that permeated the entire two days was clear evidence of the re-emergence of the sector.”

All About Tours opens coffee shop

Nottinghamshire tour operator All About Tours is opening its own travel shop with a twist.

With an official opening by the local mayor planned for 3 April, Coach Café will be a combined travel shop and coffee shop, giving All About Tours’ clients a place to enjoy high-quality coffee and cake at lower-than-high-street prices.

Open to everyone, All About Tours’ Director Martin Laver hopes that the Long Eaton café will also attract members of the public using the nearby amenities, including the bus station, supermarket and pharmacy. By getting more people into the coffee shop, he hopes the All About Tours name will spread to more potential customers.

“The space is bigger than we need just for the travel shop, so it lends itself to a secondary business, and a coffee shop is a viable use of the space,” Mr Laver tells Group Tourism & Travel.

“Customers like to see us face-to-face, which they’re not able to do at the moment. They’ll travel to Long Eaton just to see us when they book their tours.

“And this means they’ll enjoy it even more. We’re aiming for top-quality in the café – we do quality holidays, so we want to make sure the coffee is fresh Italian ground coffee, the cake is really good cake. It’s good value, but good quality.”

All About Tours launched in April 2017 and has gone through steady growth since, reporting strong bookings for the 2018 season.

Lenny Kravitz teases Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum’s wedding plans: ‘They’re in love’

Lenny Kravitz has teased some details about his daughter Zoë Kravitz’s upcoming wedding to Channing Tatum.

The 4-time Grammy winner, 60, casually let it slip when his daughter will tie the knot with the “Magic Mike” actor.

“He’s a really great guy,” the “Fly Away” hitmaker said on “Zoë Ball and Friends” of his future son-in-law. “He was raised well. So, you know, he’s got manners. He’s charming. He’s a soulful human being. And so, he’s become part of the family quite quickly.”

“He fits and they’re in love. We’re going to have a wedding next year,” the rocker added.

But despite being a world-famous musician, it appears as though Lenny won’t be taking to the stage during his daughter’s nuptials.

When asked if he’s planning on performing, the “I Belong to You” hitmaker said, “I don’t think so. [I’ll] just be hanging out.”

Earlier this year, the rocker revealed that he will not be writing a father-of-the-bride speech for Zoë’s wedding.

“It just comes at the moment. I don’t rehearse those things,” he  told “Entertainment Tonight”  at the  2024 Critics Choice Awards  in January, explaining that his words will come “from the heart.”

Lenny  added in an interview with E! News  that he is “looking forward” to the wedding.

“I do love him,” he said Tatum. “We’re good friends. A lot of mutual respect. And my daughter’s happy.”

News that Tatum  had proposed to Zoë  — whose mother is Lisa Bonet — broke in October 2023, two years after the duo  began dating .

The “High Fidelity” star, 35,  debuted her engagement ring  while attending a Halloween party alongside the actor as they dressed up as characters from the 1968 horror flick “Rosemary’s Baby.”

The pair met on the set of the thriller “Pussy Island,” which will mark her directorial debut. The film’s name has since been changed to “Blink Twice.”

Zoë was previously married to actor Karl Glusman from June 2019, however she filed for divorce  in December 2020. The two finalized their split in August 2021.

Tatum, for his part,  was married to actress Jenna Dewan  from July 2009 to November 2019. The exes share a 10-year-old daughter named Everly.

BREAKING NEWS - The full story.

Whilst our plans for 2024 are going very well indeed and we are quite excited about the variety and quality of departures we have had to look at a slight change of direction in regard to just how the business can continue to grow.

Our 1st Newsletter will be posted out to our full database shortly and will then be made available on here a few days later - and this will detail not only the remainder of 2023, but our Holiday Programme through until the end of May 2024. There are also special features on summer departures to The Outer Hebrides, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Jersey by Air & our flagship tour to the Alpine Valleys of Austria, Germany, Switzerland & Liechtenstein too!

We decided earlier this year that we would unfortunately, look to release the Travel & Coffee Shop that we have in Long Eaton, but that decision has now come about a month sooner than planned. Our landlord has a new tenant lined up from 1st August 2023 and doesn't want to lose them after the shop was vacant for over 4 years before we arrived.

Therefore, we opened the doors on the shop for the final time, last Friday.

The Reasoning?

The main factors are the practicality of manning the shop itself, the rising costs of doing so & the under-use of the shop itself from a retail perspective.

With Aidan and I not living near to the shop, travel becomes an issue and when Aidan is away on tour, the difficulty level in keeping the shop open increases.

The rising energy costs over the past 18 months have made the shop by far the most expensive outgoing we have as a business, and these will most likely only raise further.

This brings us to the last reason. Earlier this year we calculated that only 18% of our Travel customers visited the shop for bookings or payments etc. This means that over 80% of our loyal customers do not come to us in Long Eaton.

To let go of the financial and physical restraints at this stage will enable us to take the business back to what made it successful in the beginning - taking it to the people, to the communities. Keep an eye out for regular updates on this website on our new EVENTS page - a facility, along with emails that will be updated and used far more regularly from August onwards.

We will have a set up on Long Eaton market twice a month, along with Loughborough's Thursday market twice monthly too. Visits are planned to Ruddington & Beeston markets amongst many others. We will also be doing targeted marketing around many of the smaller villages and will be looking to become involved in many garden fetes, festivals and similar events in towns & villages near you.

The 'Events' list will be continually updated on this website from mid-August. If you know of any such events near to you, or are part of a club, organisation or complex that would benefit from a FREE presentation - please do get in touch.

Our telephone line will continue to operate Monday-Wednesday 9am-2pm and all calls outside of these hours will be returned the same working day. Our email address also remains the same and for the coming months any mail received will be forwarded to us whilst our new address is set-up.

2024 looks very exciting for ALL ABOUT TOURS and now with what (over the past 3 years) has felt like the handcuffs off, we are free to expand our business and most importantly, the awareness of it to the wider community. As we increase the awareness, we increase the number of passengers on tours AND the number of tours offered (& operated).

We thank wholeheartedly the community of Long Eaton and surrounding area for welcoming us and standing by us. You will not be forgotten, and we will be on the market twice a month to visit - as well as other events in the area. We thank everyone one of our customers who have helped our small family business grow in the 6 years we have been going - half of which has been lost to Covid, but we can fully reassure you, this decision has been made to help the company continue to grow - by reaching out to the many other towns & villages in the East Midlands that are not so aware of what we have to offer.
