The small park stretches along the 600 metres high Rift Valley Escarpment and is dominated by the alkaline Lake Manyara. It is here where thousands of flamingos seem to colour the shallow waters pink. Many water birds gather at the lake and more than 400 bird species are found in the park. The diverse vegetation provides a habitat for many animals such as monkeys in the forest, giraffes and antelopes on the grasslands and elephants around the acacia trees. If you are very lucky you might also see the Manyara lions, lounging in the trees. In the late afternoon you will leave the Lake Manyara National Park and head to the Kirurumu Manyara Lodge, where you will spend the night.

After breakfast you will drive towards the fertile crater highlands where the Iraqw people grow wheat, corn and coffee. You will pass the Ngorongoro Crater before you reach the plains of the Serengeti National Park around midday. The Serengeti is the largest park in Tanzania and has a diversity of habitats and landscapes including short grass plains, savannah, thick bush, swamps, mountains and lakes. Bizarre rock formations called Kopjes dot the grassy landscape where predators are often seen. Depending on the season you will witness the migration of thousands of animals which this park is famous for. During the short rainy season in November and December the herds move from the hills in the north to the plains in the south. During the longer rainy season from April to June they return up north. This circle of life is completely dependent on the yearly rainfalls and the locations of the herds may vary from year to year, but your guide will know where to find the animals and where to see them best. Dawn is a good time to watch wildlife and so you will be up early to join an early morning game drive. You will return to the camp for breakfast before heading out for another game drive in the park. Here in the Seronera region you will often see wildebeests and zebras in close proximity of lions and other predators such as leopards and cheetahs. After a picnic lunch you will continue your journey towards the Ngorongoro Crater. Once you have reached the crater rim you will enjoy fantastic views of this 600 metres deep collapsed volcano. You will stay at the Ang’ata Ngorongoro Camp, situated on the crater rim.

Day 4 | Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

Distance approx. 190 km; driving time approx. 3-4 hours

Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast you will drive down the steep and narrow road that takes you into the crater. The slopes are forested but soon the landscape changes to savannah. Here the wildlife is just breath-taking and with a little luck you can observe the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard – in just a few hours. You should also see warthogs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos and some of the more than 500 bird species of the area. After a morning dedicated to game viewing and a picnic lunch, you will leave the crater in the early afternoon to drive back to Arusha, where you will arrive in the early evening.

4 Day Tanzania Safari Expedition

A 4 day tanzania safari.

Day1 Arusha–Serengeti National Park

This safari starts in Arusha but can be tailor-made to start anywhere in Tanzania including Zanzibar.

Pick up from Arusha International Airport and we start your safari by heading to the Serengeti National park. We reach the Nabi Gate in the afternoon, and head to the Northern part of the Serengeti National park on the way you get to experience your first game drive and we as we head towards the Lobo ,  Kogatende  and  Bologonja  areas.  Arrive there as the sun is setting.

Later get to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Full day Serengeti National Park

After an early breakfast, you depart for a full day game drive within Serengeti area and even at Mara River where you may be fortunate to see the river crossing of the migration of herds which includes Wildebeest, zebras & gazelle, predators like lion, leopard, cheetahs, hyenas, jackals & countless birds of prey will be seen accompanied the Great Migration. The migration is best seen at certain times of the year. Later get to the camp for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Serengeti -Ngorongoro

After an early  breakfast you get to do a game drive in Serengeti & later drive toward the Ngorongoro crater via the Nabi gate.  If you so wish you will have the option of visiting a Maasai Village or Olduvai gorge (at Extra cost) before heading to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater – Arusha

After an early breakfast you will decent 600 meters down to the crater floor for a safari game drive. Ngorongoro Crater referred by many as the 8th wonder of the world & the Eden of Africa is home to a larger number of animal species. There is a possibility of seeing the Big five in this one day of game drive in the crater, packed lunch will be served at the crater floor. Later afternoon you will drive back to Arusha for a drop off at Arusha airport.

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast at the Hotel, your Tanzania safaris adventure begins, leaving early to the Tarangire National park around 8:30 am. This is the third largest park in Tanzania and it is characterized by the amazingly large herds of elephants that can be encountered in this park.

The Baobab trees are one of the other highlights of the Tarangire River that flows all year round and is the lifeblood of the park. Many animals; predators and the preys alike gather around the river where you can do excellent game viewing. Dinner & Overnight is at campsite/ Tented camp lodge

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will start your Tanzania safaris head towards the Serengeti National Park, via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, we descend into the heart of wild Africa – the Serengeti National Park – with its endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see.

We head to the Central Park area, known as the Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the Park, featuring the Seronera River, which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. Day 3: Serengeti National Park  to Ngorongoro Crater

After a relaxing morning and an early lunch, you will have an early morning game drive in Serengeti National park for your Tanzania safaris top destination where you can spot the Big5 if you are lucky enough. Later back to the campsite for a branch and hot lunch, Our driver and cook will load everything on the top of our safari jeep after then continue with the game drive while looking to be out of Serengeti to proceed to Ngorongoro.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater back to Arusha

Day 02: Enjoy Full day in Serengeti

You enjoy two gamedrives today, one in the morning at 6.15am, before breakfast and the other in the late afternoon after lunch. As your safari is private your gamedrive timings are flexible, useful if you are travelling with children, or are on a honeymoon. You may also choose to have a full day gamedrive [ one for the whole day] with a packed picnic lunch at no extra cost. You may want to add a Maasai Village visit or a Hot air Balloon ride into your safari [ Optional activities at additional cost - please enquire with us ] . Return to your lodge by evening. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Lodge.

Day 03: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

After a relaxed breakfast & check-out, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation area, with a shorten game drive en-route. Arrive at your overnight lodge in time for lunch. Ngorongoro Serena lodge is a luxurious camouflaged safari haven set high on the largest caldera in the world and cushioned in the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Tanzania. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 04: Half Day Game drive at Ngorongoro Crater - Return to Arusha:

After an early breakfast, your Driver collects your lunch boxes after which you proceed with a descent into the stunning Ngorongoro Crater for a full day safari game drive. After midday, stop at a scenic spot in the crater next to the hippo pool for your picnic lunch, at this point you will be able to stretch your feet and visit the washrooms. The Ngorongoro Crater is recognized as a UNESCO protected World Heritage and forms part of an international biosphere reserve. After lunch, ascend the crater and onward departure for Arusha. Arrive Arusha by early afternoon [ typically by 4.30pm] . Drop off at your hotel, or free onward transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Day 1: Tarangire National Park

After early breakfast, you will depart for a full day of game drive in Tarangire National Park . This park has the largest concentration of elephants, often seen bathing in the Tarangire river, lots of giraffes, monkeys, impalas, and many birds. It is also one of the best places to see lions, leopards, and lions. In the late afternoon, you will continue to Eileen’s trees inn for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, depart with picnic lunch and drive to Ngorongoro Crater for a full day of game drive. The crater has a good number of lions and cheetahs, and it is another good place to see the rare black rhino. In the late afternoon continue Serengeti national park for dinner and overnight at Serengeti Mbugani camp.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will have morning and afternoon game drives in central Serengeti National Park with early departure looking for active predators. Serengeti is the park with the largest concentration of big mammals in the world and it is where you will see most of your exciting wildlife. The sightings in the central Serengeti will include pride of lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, giraffes, hippos, impalas, dik-dik, monkeys, baboons, gazelles, warthogs, and many more. All meals and overnight will be at Serengeti Mbugani Camp .

Day 4: Serengeti National Park/Arusha

After breakfast you will have a morning game drive in Serengeti national park, then return back to Arusha for your departure.

Day 1 - arusha city to tarangire national park.

Your safari adventure begins today! You will be picked up by our professional driver guide from your hotel in Arusha and you will get a safari briefing then start driving to Tarangire National Park. The park is well-known for its large elephant herds and abundance of ancient baobab trees (the largest trees on the continent).

From the open roof of the vehicle, you will experience the seasonal swamps, savanna, and Tarangire River which is full of wildlife ranging from a large variety of birds to giraffes, impalas, zebras, lions, leopards, elands, warthogs and elephants. Later, you will drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day - 2 Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you proceed via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area traversing the Malanja Depression towards Serengeti one of the most famous wildlife conservation areas in the world. First, you will make a brief stop at the Naabi Hill Gate where you can go for a short walk at the Naabi Hill Kopjes (huge granite boulders) where you can stretch your legs as your guide sorts out the paperwork. After lunch, at the picnic site at the gate, you continue on game drives all afternoon at the vast Serengeti National Park, named after the ancient Masai word ‘Siringet’, which translates to ‘endless plains’. Truly the plains are endless indeed. Overnight at Serengeti Heritage Tented Camp  but if you opt for a Camping safari you sleep at Seronera Campsite

Day 3 - Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation area.

Early morning game drives at Serengeti and visit the hippo pools and Seronera Visitor’s Center if you wish. After a hearty breakfast in the bush camp, you will then proceed with your game drives in the Serengeti backtracking towards Naabi Hill Gate again until early afternoon time to cross over back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area where you reach your lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Overnight will be back at the nice mid-range lodge in Ang’ata or Rhino Lodge or if you opt for a Camping safari you will overnight at Simba Campsite

Day 4 -  Ngorongoro Crater back to Arusha 

After an early breakfast, You will descend over 600 meters into the crater to view wildlife. Supported by a year round water supply and fodder, the Ngorongoro conservation Area supports avast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo, and giant African elephants.

Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is it's dense population of predators, which include lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the ever-elusive leopard, which sometimes requires a trained eye to spot. We will visit Lake Magadi, a large but shallow alkaline lake in the southwestern corner, which is one of the main features of the crater.

A large number of flamingos, hippos and other water birds can usually be seen here. Late afternoon transfer to Arusha For dinner and Overnight or airport drop off to Zanzibar . ( Accommodation can be included upon request at extra cost )

"Consider the following options when planning your safari in Tanzania. To avoid moving lodge or campsite every day, I suggest spending all three nights in one location or splitting them across two locations. In the Northern safari circuit, you can easily fit two parks in a 4-day tour, such as a visit to the famous Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater. Additionally, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks are close to Arusha National Park and can be combined with a visit to the Ngorongoro Crater in a 4-day safari.

It's also possible to visit Lake Manyara, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater in a 4-day safari, but be aware that it involves covering quite a bit of distance. Visiting all four of the Northern circuit parks in 4 days is just about possible, but not recommended.

Alternatively, a 4-day safari can be arranged to visit southern Tanzania. Either Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) or Ruaha National Park can be visited on its own as a stand-alone fly-in safari from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar. Another option is to drive to Nyerere and visit Mikumi National Park en route."

The group arrives at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO). Participants are met by a representative of Altezza Travel and transferred to a hotel in Arusha.

Note: The hotel cost only includes breakfast. Check-in starts at 2:00 PM.

In the morning after breakfast (around 7:30 AM) your safari guide will arrive at the hotel and inform the receptionist that he is waiting for you. After meeting up with your driver you will travel to Tarangire National Park, and by 10:00 AM you will already be on your first safari!

In this park you have the chance to see lots of wild Tanzanian animals (lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, etc.), but above all else it is famous for its astonishing number of elephants, who typically tend to stay close to their drinking source, the Tarangire River.

You should be aware that this is wild nature, so the guide cannot make any guarantees on the presence of specific wild animals, but you can be sure he will do his best to find everything you're looking for! The Altezza team has its own radio channel that the drivers use to communicate to other guides and collaborate on searches for rare species.

At lunch time you will be provided a meal, after which the safari will continue. In the evening you will be transferred to the hotel.

This is your first day on safari, so we ask that you please pay special attention to the national parks visitor rules and our company recommendations.

• During the safari it is strictly prohibited to exit the vehicle, except for in specially designated areas. Violations of this rule may be accompanied by large fines for the company, including the revocation of its license.
• Off road driving is also prohibited, as such behavior may cause irreparable damage to the fragile balance of the natural ecosystem.
• During the safari you are allowed to smoke, but be extremely careful about how you extinguish and dispose of cigarette butts, as they are a frequent cause of fires in the savanna.
• In addition, we sincerely request that you not put your feet on the safari car's seats, nor sit on the back of them, because this type of behavior quickly makes the cars unusable.

On this day it is best to leave the hotel as early as possible so you can see the variety of animals that are only active during the morning hours; breakfast will be packed in lunchboxes specifically for this purpose. At 6:30 AM you will set off for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and after about an hour you will already be inside the crater.

Ngorongoro is one of the most famous and interesting of Tanzania's national parks because here you can find the greatest number of different animal species per square kilometer. You will have the chance to see buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippopotamus and feline species such as caracals and servals. The luckiest travelers might even see a rhinoceros, an animal whose numbers are rapidly declining.

By lunch time you will arrive at the lake side, where you will be offered lunchboxes, after which the safari will continue, ending in a few hours with a transfer to Serengeti National Park.

On your travels you will also visit a memorial dedicated to two West German researchers, Bernhard and Michael Grzimek. It is them we have to thank for Northern Tanzania National Parks having survived till our times in its current natural state. In the evening you will be transferred to a hotel in the center of the Serengeti valley.

After breakfast you will start the safari by being transferred to the central part of the Serengeti (also called Seronera). Here your driver will try to find the animals you're the most interested in. Closer to lunch time you will visit the Serengeti Visitor Centre, where you will be offered a lunchbox and provided with lots of interesting information not only about the animals’ populations, but also about the history of the National Park. Also, in this area you will be able to see hyraxes, which are the elephant's closest relatives.

It is difficult to describe in detail all the animals of the Serengeti valley, for they number in the thousands: elephants, buffalo, ostriches, giraffes, jackals, hyenas, lions, antelopes, leopards and cheetahs—just keep your eyes peeled and enjoy the nature around you.

In the evening you will be transferred to a hotel, where you will have dinner and be able to rest.

After breakfast in the morning you will safari in the eastern and southern parts of the park. The greater part of these areas is a savanna with wide open spaces, which provides a likely opportunity to see cheetah hunting antelopes.

By early afternoon you will finish the safari and return to the hotel in Arusha.

Rest in the hotel and transfer to the airport.

ARRIVAL DAY

You'll need to organise their own flights to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From JRO we will arrange a private transfer to your hotel in Arusha. That night or early the next morning you will meet your local Kandoo representative and have a full briefing.

You will be met by your private guide and vehicle and driven to Tarangire National Park, arriving with plenty of time for an afternoon game-drive. The Tarangire River runs through the park attracting a huge number of elephants, buffalo, giraffe and antelope, particularly in the dry season between June and October. It is not uncommon to see large herds of elephants roaming through Tarangire's savannah grasses or taking shade under the odd looking "upside down trees" (baobab) that are dotted around the park. The park also boasts over 550 different bird species, the most diverse in Africa, including the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the World!

After breakfast, you will take a picnic lunch with you as you continue to the Serengeti, a drive of around 4 ½ hours through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Meaning "endless plains" in the Maasai language, it is Tanzania's oldest game reserve and is world-famous for the role it plays in the annual Great Migration, when an estimated two million herbivores - mostly wildebeest and zebra - migrate from the Serengeti to Kenya's Maasai Mara Game Reserve. In the afternoon you will leave the Serengeti to return to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

NGORONGORO CRATER

After an early breakfast, you will drive to the fascinating wildlife arena of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is over 260 km2 (100 miles2) and was formed when a massive volcano exploded and collapsed on itself 2-3 million years ago. It is now the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world and often referred to as "Africa's Eden". Home to more than 25,000 large mammals, it is not unusual to see all of the "Big Five" (buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard) in a single day. Driving through the Ngorongoro Highlands, you will arrive at the crater rim and then descend down 610m (2000ft) onto its floor to start your safari extravaganza. Following your game drive you will transfer to your hotel in Arusha, or onwards to Kilimanjaro airport.

Waste systems are very basic in the middle of the African savannah so to try and reduce the amount of plastic waste on our trips we ask that you bring a Nalgene, or equivalent, water bottle with you on safari. We provide a large tank of mineral water so you can refill your water bottle throughout the day as needed to avoid excessive consumption of single use plastic bottles. 

Accommodation

The different National Parks – Tarangire, Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro – may look close on a map, but there is a considerable amount of driving between each location. Approximate driving times are listed below. While this gives you the opportunity to see more of the Tanzania countryside – look out for Maasai villages beside the road, children tending their herds of goats and cattle, and road-side markets – you will not see any game during these transit times.

Tarangire National Park Insights

This park is most famous for the large herds of elephants and massive baobab trees that dot the park, apart from the many animals that roam this incredible wildlife area. The park’s main river is the Tarangire River which cuts across the park, and the banks are always teeming with wildlife. Wildlife action with predators preying on animals is a common sighting along the banks of the river.

Tarangire is approximately 2 hours drive from Arusha town and geographically between Arusha and Ngorongoro Crater. The park is an ideal point to begin your short safari in Tanzania.

Ngorongoro Crater

Ngorongoro Crater is part of the larger vast Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The crater floor where safari game drives are done is a small area that acts like a natural zoo. More than 20,000 animals roam the small area, with the opportunity to spot many animals at very close range. The Big Five can be spotted here even in a one-day safari game drive. The Big 5 includes lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and Rhinos. Ngorongoro is also a great place for birding with more than 500 bird species recorded; both aquatic and non-aquatic birds, resident and migratory.

Serengeti National Park

This is the best park in Africa according to travelers and travel experts. The park has been voted time and again as the best national park and indeed wildlife conservation area in Africa and the world over. The wildebeest migration herds spend most of the time in The Serengeti, from October to July. Serengeti National Park is also a Big Five national park.

This is a lodge safari. Accommodation during the four-day safari tour will be in nice mid-range lodges and tented camps, but you can have your accommodation upgraded by our Tanzania safari experts. You can stay in midrange (comfort), standard luxury or deluxe lodging depending on your budget.

The 4 days Tanzania safari is a drive-in / drive-out safari, starting from Arusha and back, but we can customize it for you into a fly-in / drive-out safari, or drive-in / fly-out at a supplement. Please ask our experts if you need free customization of your itinerary.

4-day tanzania safari itinerary, arusha city to tarangire national park for safari.

On the first day of this itinerary, you will be picked up from your hotel or lodge in the city of Arusha or directly from Arusha Domestic Airport in case you are flying in from Zanzibar. You may request your guide to make a brief stop for last-minute supplies if you wish or change money to local currency. You will take a two hour drive through the Arusha – Dodoma Highway to the Tarangire National Park where you will stop briefly at the gate for registration.

Tarangire National Park is home to many animals including large herds of elephants, lions, buffaloes, leopards, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes, lots of impalas, Grant and Thompson gazelles as well as rare species like the gerenuk and the beisa oryx.

Picnic lunch can be serves in one of the picnic sites within the park or at the picnic site that is located at the park’s gate. You will go on a guided wildlife safari in the Tarangire until later in the afternoon around 16.30 Hrs or 17.00 hrs, then transfer to your lodge within the park or a midrange lodge at Karatu in the Ngorongoro Highlands for dinner. Overnight will be at the Marera Valley Lodge in Karatu or similar lodge. Picnic lunch and dinner is included .

Tarangire / Karatu to Serengeti National Park

The second day of this 4-day Tanzania safari adventure , we are heading to the most famous park in Tanzania and Africa; the Serengeti National Park. Pick up from your lodge after an early morning breakfast and your private guide will take you across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enter Serengeti through Naabi Hill Gate, where you will stop registration. On your way to Serengeti, you will get a chance to make several stops on the way to view animals as you traverse the Ngorongoro Conservation Area which itself is a wildlife area with many animal species.

Visiting the Olduvai Gorge an important archeological site is an option and so is a visit to a Masai Boma (village) at an extra cost.

Once you enter the Serengeti you will go on your first safari game drive in search of the animals. Serengeti is famous for the wildebeests herds but the park is home to many other animal species including large prides of lions, leopards, cheetahs, giraffes, topis, zebras, gazelles, impalas, warthogs, rhinos, jackals, elands and the list is endless.

Later in the afternoon, your guide will take you for check-in at your lodge or tented camp within the Serengeti. Overnight at Tukaone Serengeti Camp . All meals included.

Safari in Serengeti National Park – back to Ngorongoro

This 4-days safari in Tanzania is an express tour because it includes only one night at Serengeti. You will wake up for an early morning safari game drive (recommended) if you wish). Your safari guide will try to show you as much wildlife in this sunrise safari, before taking you back to your lodge/camp for breakfast.

You will depart after breakfast with packed lunch and go for one more safari game drive on the way back towards the Naabi Hill Gate where you will exit the Serengeti and head back to Ngorongoro Highlands with game viewing on the way. You will have your picnic lunch at a picnic site at Naabi Hill Gate where you are also allowed to alight from your jeep and even stretch your legs a little bit.

Your guide will drop you off at your lodge within Ngorongoro Conservation Area or at a nice lodge in Karatu near the NCA. Overnight at Marera Valley Lodge or similar midrange lodge.  All meals included.

Safari in Serengeti National Park – transfer back to Arusha

Waking up very early is very recommended on this last day of your safari. The earlier you descend to the Crater floor the better the chances of spotting many animals including the rare ones like black rhinos that live at the Ngorongoro Crater floor. After an early breakfast at your lodge in Ngorongoro or Karat, you will descend to the floor of the ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden’; the Ngorongoro Crater. Descending the 600-meter-high walls of the Ngorongoro is a spectacle in itself, but when you arrive at the Crater’s floor you will be amazed by the abundance of animals that line up close to the tracks. An estimated 20,000 animals live in this small area. You expect to spot gazelles, elands, topis, zebras, warthogs, topis, wildebeests, jackals, caracals, baboons, as well as the big five with a little bit of luck.

Picnic lunch will be taken at the picnic site at the Hippo poolside or Elerai forest where you will also get a chance to use the bathrooms. After lunch and according to your schedule, you will proceed with your afternoon game drives until later when your guide will take you back to Arusha where your 4-day Tanzania lodge safari ends.  Breakfast and Lunch included . All meals included.

There is no direct flight between Tanzania and most countries. Therefore a stopover Cape Town, South Africa may be required before reaching Dar es Salaam, the main Tanzania tourist hub on the east coast. International flights also arrive into Kilimanjaro International Airport for visitors wondering how to get to Tanzania . 

DAR airport is located 18km south of Dar Es Salaam and a Tanzania visa and certain vaccinations may be required to enter the country.

Due to this stopover, flights to Tanzania tend to be more expensive than other destinations offering direct flights to other African safari destinations.

The prices of flights from the U.K. or U.S. can vary according to the dates of the stay and the chosen airline.

Intercontinental flights

Arriving into Tanzania will typically involve taking a connecting flight from Dubai, Amsterdam or Johannesburg in South Africa, adding to the overall cost of a safari, the cost of which will vary depending on time of year and the flight distance.

Local transport

Due to this, private charter flights are commonly used to quickly access isolated private reserves and concessions, sometimes the only way to access them.

Others choose to go on self drive safaris and rent their own cars/4×4’s and use the roads of the national parks. This is a more affordable option and offers visitors the comfort of staying as long as they wish in each location.

Flights from Serengeti to Zanzibar

Seeing Zanzibar from above is a breath-taking experience, with its flawless sandy beaches, turquoise waters and stunning coral, many visitors make the journey here post safari.

Flights can start from USD $200, flying from Serengeti (SEU) airport to Zanzibar (ZNZ), a distance of approximately 560 miles taking 2 hours and 50 minutes.

Accommodation

The quality of accommodation options available in Tanzania is generally quite high. There are many luxurious lodges available, some of which can only be accessed by plane transfer however, thus adding to the costs.

More budget friendly accommodation options include camping options, of which many parks have at least 1-2 designated areas. Food/Dining

Supermarket food prices are similar to those in Europe however there are fewer restaurants in Tanzania other than those run by lodges and meal prices at these lodges are relatively expensive.

National parks and reserves charge park fees per person including entrance fees for guides, as well as vehicle entry fees.

There are multiple factors that can impact the cost of a safari including activities selected and the different things to do in Tanzania including walking safaris . 

Many visitors will be interested in activities beyond the main safari and wildlife excursions including mountain biking on Ngorongoro or quad biking adventures, all of which add to overall costs. Comparable to Europe, these prices are lower.

Is a cheap Tanzania safari possible?

Safari prices in Tanzania are more expensive in general, especially for accommodation. However, visitors can be smart and take measures to keep their bank balance in check including:

Travel seasons

Visitors looking to avail of a cheap Tanzania safari on a lower budget should travel in the low season which is December to March. This time of year however is also unfortunately a period of hot, muggy weather.

April and May (northern circuit parks still get quite a few visitors unlike the southern and western circuit parks, where many lodges close down). June and July are the best months to see the wildebeest migration.

May is still mid-season and will allow for cooler weather at still reasonable rates.

• Visitors planning an 8 night stay during Peak Season (July – Oct) in a premier camp can expect to pay around $9,000 to $10,000 per person
• Visitors planning an 8 night stay during Off-Peak Season (Sep – Dec) in a moderate camp can expect to pay around $5,500 per person

Affordable lodging options

If budget is the primary concern, and visitors don’t mind camping, then there are some overland camping trips (called mobile safaris) available as well as budget Tanzania safari packages.

Excluding international flights and plane transfers:

• Visitors planning a 6 night safari staying at two different tented camps can expect to pay around $3,600 – $4,300 per person
• Visitors planning a similar 6 night mobile camping safari can expect to pay around $2,200 per person, prices can vary

Affordable Tanzania safari packages tend to be for longer safaris (7+ nights) whilst higher cost safaris are typical of a shorter 3 or 4 night safari.

Serengeti safari approximate costs

The cost of a trip to the Serengeti can start from around US$140 per day for an all-inclusive package, including shuttle service to and from the Delta, accommodation, game viewing and meals.

It's a great camping safari for the four-day camping safaris in Tanzania that visit Tarangire, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro crater, among other places. After breakfast, leave your hotel and drive to Tarangire National Park , where you'll have lunch and go on a game drive in the afternoon.

The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions and large flocks of flamingos, so you'll see a lot of them. Keep going back to your campsite at Panorama campsite for dinner and a good night's sleep.

One of the adventure safaris in the northern circuit includes Tarangire National Park, Manyara National Park, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. We will pick you up from the meeting point and drive you to Tarangire National Park, where you will stay for one night. The next two nights will be outside of Manyara. On the third day, you will descend down the crater and enjoy game viewing before ascending back up.

Is Ngorongoro Crater Worth Visiting

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is worth a look if you're in the area. Even though it's not part of Serengeti National Park, it's still worth a look. People visit the site to see the Ngorongoro Crater, which is the world's sixth-largest volcano caldera that is still intact. The Olduvai Gorge is also there.

Is Arusha Safe For Tourists

Tanzania is mostly safe to visit, but you should be careful in places like Arusha , Stone Town (Zanzibar), and Dar es Salaam, which are popular with tourists.

Mount Kilimanjaro From Arusha

You can see the top of the mountain, but not the whole thing from there. We recommend that you drive about half way to Moshi to get a better view of the mountain.
