Just what we wanted!

We had used Zicasso for a trip to Africa in 2018, and the arrangements they made then were so good that we asked them for recommendations for our recent trip to the Peruvian rain forest and Machu Picchu. They did not disappoint. Our guides were great, the accommodations just what we wanted, and all connections went smoothly. We had an exciting and educational experience, and the price was right!

Will always use Zicasso.

Have used Zicasso now for trips to Spain, Turkey and Greece. Wish I had found them earlier. Easy to use. Great customer service. Have only had great experiences with the agents we get connected with...even the ones I ultimately did NOT choose. And Zicasso follows up to make sure you are getting what you need. Every detail got planned out how I wanted it planned. Super flexible. I like every detail planned and the agents had to remind me to plan some breaks into my day...which my family appreciated! Otherwise we had drivers and guides and tickets and reservations all mapped out well in advance of the trip. The agents helped me get the most out of the time I had with a ton of options and recommendations which they went through in detail. Made several changes until we had exactly what we wanted. And the trip went exactly how it was planned.

Great experience

Tuscany and Amalfi make a fantastic experience

Our trip to Italy was well-planned to give us the experiences we wanted at a pace and sequence that was well-measured and relaxed. In less than 2 weeks, we saw Florence, much of Tuscany, and then the Amalfi coast. The stress of figuring out how to get from place to place and how much time was needed for each step was eliminated. Our advisor helped us to select tours, guides, and hotels that we could not have identified, much less booked, on our own. Having planned many previous trips, including one to Italy, I could see the value of expert advice from someone with firsthand knowledge and an insider understanding of how to make arrangements.

A Perfect Greek Island Vacation - 11 Days

We recently completed an amazing 11 day trip to Greece which included Athens, Milos, Mykonos and Santorini. We elected to use Zicasso to help plan our itinerary since they were local to the Greek Islands and felt they understood our desires and expectations for each location. They customized our itinerary to ensure our activities and/or tours were to our expectations. The hotel selections were perfect as they were in great proximity to key attractions or beaches, for when we had free time. Also, it made it very convenient for dinner. In addition, the hotels selected had outstanding staff and customer service, which added to the experience. As for our activities and tours, all transfers were handled and staff were readily available via text or e-mail, if we had any questions. The tours they recommended were great and our Athens city tour and Santorini wine tour were “private” and just our family which made us feel extra special. Overall, we plan to use Zicasso for any future international travel, as this vacation was perfect!!

Zicasso's travel agent referrals have been outstanding.

We have used Zicasso twice now, once for a month-long trip to Spain last year, and again this spring for a month-long trip to Greece. After reviewing the proposals from the two travel agents Zicasso referred to us for each trip, we picked the once that was closest in their approach to our ideal dream trip. Zicasso: Helping you Find the Best Travel Professional for the Perfect Trip

After months of attempting to plan a 3 week sabbatical to Australia and New Zealand, I was overwhelmed with hundreds of internet searches and recommendations from friends. Recent trip to Morocco

Great way to take the work out of planning!

Two week trip to Buenos Aires & Mendoza planned by Zicasso

Zicasso planned our 2 week trip to Buenos Aires & Mendoza. Everything worked as planned: 3 very good hotels, vineyard tours, and all the transfers with a private car: airports to & from hotels and a final transfer from Santiago Airport to Valparaiso cruise port. The service from Mariana was excellent and she was very patient, knowledgeable and pleasant throughout the planning stage. The package price was very fair.

When it comes to an itinerary, Travel + Leisure readers want more than a string of photo opportunities — and the right tour operator makes all the difference in creating a trip of a lifetime versus one that simply checks off a list of sights. This year, our readers were especially drawn to companies that utilize local expertise and experience to thoughtfully design trips that will entertain as well as inspire.

Every year for our World's Best Awards survey , T+L asks readers to weigh in on travel experiences around the globe — to share their opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. Readers rated tour operators and safari outfitters based on their staff and guides, itineraries and destinations, activities, accommodations, food, and overall value.

The top picks were noted for their deep knowledge of destinations and guides who "go the extra mile." One reader who has been traveling for more than five decades said a trip with Classic Journeys (No. 2) was the "very best" they had experienced. Others noted attention to pandemic safety details, while one who went to Norway was charmed by a "wonderful surprise dinner in Bergen out on the water that was fantastic."

Tour operators that seamlessly navigated the logistics of a trip also came out on top. Quasar Expeditions (No. 9) was noted "for really planning out every detail" so that "all you have to do is show up and have a great time." Meanwhile, of TCS World Travel (No. 10), a guest said: "You never lift a finger and just spend your time actually exploring the destination." They even added that they "learned so much" along the way.

Among the five companies on this year's list that weren't on last year's were two women-only tour operators that cater to travelers of all ages. AdventureWomen (No. 14) has multiday tours designed by women from Bhutan to Yellowstone National Park, while Explorer Chick (No. 15) has everything from day trips — like glassblowing in Baltimore and cave rappelling in St. Louis — to full itineraries in Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. One reader said her Everest Base Camp trip with AdventureWomen was filled with "like-minded women" who "bonded so well," while another said she felt it was a "safe tour group for women."

No matter which tour they chose, readers were most taken by the people they met along the way, as one said of Trek Travel (No. 13): "By the end of the trip, a group of strangers felt like longtime friends." Find out which other companies round out the list of the best tour operators below.

A tour with DuVine goes far beyond just riding a bike — it's a way to really see the character of a destination. Case in point: even those who say they're not necessarily cycling fans have been converted. That's part of what helped the tour operator — which runs trips in Europe, the U.S., Latin America, and Africa — skyrocket from No. 14 last year to this year's top spot. Its "top-notch biking equipment" and "challenging but doable itineraries" didn't hurt either. One reader was especially taken by a guide picking figs off of a local tree in Puglia for an extra energy boost during a tough climb, as well as another guide singing to the group after dinner. As another reader put it simply: "They exceed your expectations."

My husband and I first discovered Zicasso not long after we snagged a couple of flights to Croatia using some of our accumulated miles. At that point, we were looking for suggestions and ideas on where to go and what to do while in the country and we thought contenting with a travel consultant would be of benefit. In our case, I simply said we had flights to Croatia , wanted to visit Dubrovnik and a few other cities, and were interested in including some adventurous activities in our itinerary.

Within two days, I received two replies from travel agents that work with Zicasso, and a third from another source. The first one via Zicasso was simply a return email outlining a "trip" that resembled a mass group tour I had already come across online. The second travel agent called me, but when asked if she had been to Croatia, she said "no." We wanted someone who had been to the country. The third travel specialist was Maja Gudelj from the Select Italy agency, which works with Zicasso. She asked us to give her a bit more information via email so she could learn more about what we really wanted to do while in Croatia before we started making any specific plans.

Maja hooked us on the first phone conversation by saying that a hotel we were looking at in the town of Split was good, but it was also located 25 minutes by car from the walled city area—possibly longer in morning rush-hour traffic. It turns out she just so happened to be from Split and had extensive first-hand knowledge of the area. Coincidentally, she was also visiting her mother while we were there, and ended up coming along on the private tour that she had arranged for us. Going above and beyond the call of duty, she then spent the rest of the day showing us even more of her city.

Adventure Activities Abound

After about three weeks, and a lot of back and forth, we had our trip arranged. It was the special activities that Maja selected that wowed us the most. We had a private 10-course gourmet dinner at Bibich Winery (mentioned in Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" TV program), after it was closed to the public. The meal was cooked by the winery owner's wife and a sommelier told us about each wine he matched with a course, along with plenty of stories about what it is like living in Croatia.

On one of the other days of the trip we embarked on a cave adventure , crawling through a tunnel using only miner's lamps on our helmets to light the way. It was a spelunker's dream, open to just a small number of people each year. Another day we visited monumental historic sites and megaliths, with a private guide who is an author, winemaker, and cosmologist. Afterward, we spent hours over lunch with our guide and his wife, talking about the history of Croatia and what it was like to live in a small village within sight of Bosnia-Herzegovina .

No Fees for Zicasso Travel Specialists

Travelers do not pay a fee to use Zicasso. More than 90 percent of Zicasso's travel consultants do not charge a consulting fee, according to Tan. They make their money off commissions from hotels, car rental agencies, and other activities they book for a client. The only exception might be when a client keeps having to change the arrangements after they have been booked, in which case the travel specialist might ask for a "good faith" non-refundable deposit. In other words, in most cases, the Zicasso service is free, with the travel agencies using their expert knowledge and industry contacts to earn their money. That's good news for travelers, as the agents are working hard to ensure they're getting the service they need.

How Zicasso Came About

CEO Tan said he "started Zicasso to solve my own problem." He was employed at an Internet networking company but loved to travel. Having difficulty finding travel specialists online, he started Zicasso "to do the homework on behalf of clients."
