We felt the travel time to Berlin was too long for such a short stay. Some travellers we spoke to stayed in Berlin several days before they boarded the ship in Copenhagen.

• Enjoy a walking tour of Warnemünde and then a short train ride into the Hanseatic city of Rostock.

We chose a smaller group tour, “Hanseatic Treasures: Full Day Experience of Warnemünde and Rostock”, offered through SBP Tours. Our tour included a delicious German meal of our choosing and a German beer. The local tour guide was very knowledgeable and provided a good experience. We met our guide just outside the cruise ship terminal gates. It was an informative walking tour of Warnemünde and Rostock. We travelled like a local using the train and tram.

The walking tour of Warnemünde started by heading down to the beach promenade, down cobbled streets past 15th-16th century restored historic gabled houses, a visit to the fishing market and the Old Stream Boulevard. We then headed off to experience Rostock.

Warnemünde Church

Step inside the Warnemünde Church. The church is built of brick in a neo-Gothic style. The building dates from 1866. It is a Lutheran church and because it is situated in a coastal area it has unique votive ships hanging inside. Find out more about the church and view more photos.

Edvard Munch House

Warnminner Ümgang

Stop at the “Warnminner Ümgang“ (2004), a bronze cast fountain. Designed by Wolfgang Friedrich, the fountain shows a traditional Warnemünde procession of the town’s mayor.

Magical Hag Stones

Look for Magical Hag stones outside several homes in Warnemünde and Rostock.

The strings of magical rocks are hung, according to ancient myths, to protect against evil, ward off or cure disease and bring good luck.

Adder stones, also called fairy rocks, are found in North Germany on the shores of Baltic and North Sea. The stones have several holes naturally carved by water.

In Germany they are called Hühnergötter which means chicken gods. In Britain they are called hag stones, witch stones, snake eggs or serpent eggs.

Boats dock at Warnemunde Cruise Center and Rostock General Cargo Terminal. Warnemunde Cruise Center is well located in the center of Warnemunde town. Rostock General Cargo Terminal is located across the Warnow river, 20 minutes drive from the city.

What you'll do

Our  Shorexc  guide will meet you at the  Port of Warnemünde  where we board an air-conditioned coach to take a  guided tour of Rostock .

Rostock , is the largest city in the north German state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and is located on the Warnow river; the quarter of Warnemünde 12 kilometres (7 miles) north of the city centre is directly located at the coast of the Baltic Sea.

Rostock is home to one of the oldest universities in the world, the University of Rostock founded in 1419. 

One of the most picturesque places in Rostock is the  Neuer Markt  (New Market Square), with the  Town Hall  - that was originally built in the 13th century in Brick Gothic style, but extensively transformed in the 18th century, with the addition of a Baroque façade and a banqueting hall.

St. Mary's Church - Marienkirche , on Ziegenmarkt, is an imposing Brick Gothic church. Built in the 13th century, it was enlarged and modified at the end of the 14th century into the present cross-shaped basilica. The huge tower was not completed until the end of the 18th century. Inside there is an astronomical clock built in 1472 by Hans Düringer.

The architecture of the city highlight the historical facades of houses with different periods like Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.

We will also have the chance to appreciate the  resort of Warnemünde , with wide sandy beaches and boardwalks, the fish market with small picturesque fishermen's houses, romantic restaurants and sailing boats.

We will then  return to the Port of Warnemünde  so you can re-join your ship for onward passage to your next port of call.
