BATTERY POWER : Please note that while roadsurfer RVs come with solar panels, the batteries are not equipped to last for prolonged periods without connecting to shore power.
TRAVELING IN WINTER : Please note that all our motorhomes in Canada undergo “hibernation” during the winter months (from November to March). This involves emptying or filling all boilers and pipes with antifreeze, including the camper’s water tanks. Consequently, water usage in the vehicles, such as from the fresh water tap, shower, or toilet, is unavailable during this period. To prevent vehicle damage, kindly ensure the water tank remains empty throughout your journey. Regrettably, any damage resulting from failure to comply will incur charges.

Driving rules in Canada
While driving a motorhome rental in Canada is much the same as driving in the US, there are a few things to keep in mind.
- Canada has vast distances between cities and towns, so planning your route and keeping an eye on the gas gauge is essential.
- The speed limits in Canada are in kilometers per hour, not miles. They also vary based on the province you’re in and the type of road you’re on. It’s important to observe the posted speed signs and adjust your speed according to road and weather conditions. Keep in mind that most speed limits vary between 20 mph and 70 mph (50-100 km/h), depending whether you’re in town or on the highway.
- While honking your horn might be the norm in the US, it’s not widely done in Canada. Honking is generally reserved for emergencies or to warn other drivers about potential hazards on the road.
- During the winter months, road conditions can be hazardous due to snow and ice, particularly in mountainous areas. It’s advisable to check the weather report and road conditions before setting out on your journey, and always carry a roadside emergency kit during winter.
One of the best things about camper van rental in Canada is the ability to camp just about anywhere. Here are a few key points to keep in mind before pulling up for the night.
- Wild camping: There’s a nationwide ban on wild camping in cities, national parks and provincial parks. In saying that, it is tolerated in some provinces. Our advice is always to check the local wild camping regulations in your area before setting up camp.
- Park regulations: It’s essential to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of the national/provincial parks and campsites where you wish to stay. Some areas may have restrictions on RV size or prohibited areas for overnight stays. Therefore, it’s worth doing some research before you set out.
- Booking in advance: During peak season, camping spots can fill up quickly. It’s always a good idea to book your spot well in advance to avoid disappointment. Some of the more popular parks and campgrounds even offer online reservation facilities.
- Wildlife: Canada is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including bears, moose and coyotes. While it’s exciting to see these animals in their natural habitat, it’s crucial to maintain a safe distance and store food securely to avoid attracting them to your campsite.
- Leave no trace: Lastly, remember the ‘leave no trace’ principles. This means leaving your campground as you found it, disposing of waste properly and respecting the natural environment. This approach ensures that the beauty of Canada’s great outdoors can be enjoyed by generations to come.
Travel requirements for traveling to Canada
Booking an RV rental in Canada and traveling from the US is incredibly easy. As long as you have a valid passport, you can enter the country. However, there are a few travel requirements to keep in mind.
- eTA: If you are traveling by air, you’ll need an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). This is a simple online process that takes just a few minutes and costs $7 CAD. It’s crucial to apply for this before your trip as you may be denied boarding without it. If you’re crossing the border by land or sea, you won’t need an eTA.
- Vehicle insurance: It’s essential to have valid vehicle insurance when using the local roads and highways. When it comes to camper van rental in Canada, your company will usually provide basic insurance coverage, but it’s worth checking with them beforehand. You can also purchase additional coverage if needed.
- Driving license: If you have a valid US driving license, you can use it to drive in Canada. Please keep this with your van’s auto insurance and the vehicle registration at all times.
Popular events & festivals in Canada
If you want to make the most of your experience with an RV rental in Canada, why not plan your trip around some of Canada’s famous events and festivals?
- Quebec Winter Carnival (February): If you’re brave enough to face Canada’s cold winters, then be sure to check out this winter carnival in Quebec City, filled with snow sculptures, ice canoe races and a very cool parade (literally).
- Pacific Rim Whale Festival (March): Over 20,000 gray whales migrate along the west coast of Vancouver Island each spring. This festival honors their journey with art shows, gala dinners and whale-spotting excursions.
- Calgary Stampede (July): Known as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, this annual rodeo event in Calgary is a must-visit for any cowboy or cowgirl at heart.
- Vancouver Folk Music Festival (July): Held every summer in Vancouver, British Columbia, this festival showcases some of the best folk music talent from around the world. So pack your guitar and join in on the fun!
Beautiful places to visit in Canada
It’s practically impossible to list all of Canada’s stunning destinations, but here are a few must-see places to add to your itinerary if you’re coming from the US.
- Banff National Park: Located in Alberta, this park is home to some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes in the world. With soaring mountains, crystal-clear lakes and an abundance of wildlife, you’ll feel like you’ve entered a postcard.
- Vancouver Island: Just a short ferry trip from Vancouver, this island is filled with charming seaside towns, picturesque beaches and rugged wilderness. Don’t miss out on the chance to spot whales, bears and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
- Mount Revelstoke National Park: This park in British Columbia is famous for its vibrant wildflower meadows, making it a must-visit destination during the summer months.
- Yoho National Park: Located in the Canadian Rockies, this park is home to some of the most stunning waterfalls and breathtaking hiking trails in Canada. Be sure to check out Takakkaw Falls, one of the country’s highest waterfalls.
- Prince Edward Island: This charming island on the east coast of Canada is famous for its red sand beaches, fresh seafood and Anne of Green Gables. It’s an idyllic spot for a peaceful escape from city life.
When to visit Canada
Given that Canada is the second largest country in the world and spans six time zones, the weather during each season can vary dramatically. Here’s what to expect during all four seasons.
- Spring (March to May): is a beautiful time to visit Canada, with mild temperatures and blooming flowers. However, some areas may still have snow, so it’s best to check weather reports before planning any outdoor activities.
- Summer (June to August): is the most popular time to visit Canada for its warm weather and longer daylight hours. It’s also when most festivals and events take place.
- Autumn (September to November): brings cooler temperatures and stunning fall foliage, making it an excellent time for hiking and scenic drives.
- Winter (December to February): can be harsh in some parts of Canada, but it’s also the perfect time for winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. Be sure to pack warm clothes if you plan on visiting during this season.

3. Escape Campervans - Best budget campervan rentals in Canada
- Pick up/drop off location/s - Calgary & Vancouver
- Price range - $$-$$$
- Best suited for - small groups and families
Although Cruise Canada is the largest RV rental company in North America (along with Cruise America), Escape Campervans is the biggest campervan rental company.
They solely focus on small campervans and don’t rent out RVs which is great if you’re looking for a smaller vehicle.
Escape Campervans is one of the highest-rated rental companies in the country, and is known for its incredible customer support and experience.
They’re a great choice if you’re looking for RV rentals in Calgary or Vancouver, as each rental comes with 24/7 roadside assistance and one-way trip options.
Four additional drivers are also covered for FREE with Escape Campervans, and not many rental companies offer this!
Escape Campervans usually have five types of campervans available to hire, but only one of these is available in Canada.
The Big Sur sleeps up to five people and comes with plenty of storage space , so you’ll easily be able to fit all your belongings in this small camper.
It also comes with an optional rooftop sleeper and plenty of amenities.
4. CanaDream - One of the BEST RV rental companies in Canada

If you’re looking for one-way RV rentals in Canada, then CanaDream is a great option!

Not only that, but CanaDream offers 24/7 roadside assistance and an app with trip planning tools so you can make the most of your time in Canada.
Each rental also includes a membership to the CanaDream Club which gives you exclusive discounts off RV parks and attractions up and down the country.
This rental company offers an early bird discount too so book your vehicle in advance if you can!
There are 10 different RVs available to hire with CanaDream, which range from 2 to 6 berths.
Each vehicle is custom built and is designed with space in mind, so there’s plenty of room for small families and groups to travel together.
Generally every vehicle will come with a furnace, toilet, and shower, but the larger the RV - the more campervan accessories you’ll get.
5. Fraserway RV - The largest independently owned RV rental company in Canada
- Pick up/drop off location/s - Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver & Whitehorse
- Best suited for - families and groups of friends

Fraserway is known for their fantastic customer service so you're in good hands if you rent a vehicle through them!
Fraserway has a large selection of RVs and campers, with 11 different vehicles to choose from.
This ranges from truck campers to class A RVs, so there’s something for everyone.
Even better, no matter which rental vehicle you choose you’ll be getting a camper that’s under three years old.
As Fraserway offers such a variety of vehicles, the amenities will differ with each rental. Generally though, your RV will come with solar panels and an awning.
6. Owasco - Great option for large campervans and RVs
- Pick up/drop off location/s - Ontario
Owasco is a great option if you’re planning to rent an RV in Ontario .
Two drivers are included with each rental, as well as basic public liability and collision insurance.
You’ll also get complimentary parking for one vehicle if you’re swapping to an RV, FREE roadside assistance, and free luggage storage.
Not only that, but Owasco offers travel throughout the United States for no extra fee!
The only thing to note is that Owasco specialises in large campervans and RVs, so if you’d prefer to drive something smaller it’s best to look elsewhere.
There’s also a minimum hire period (like with most rental companies), and you may need to purchase additional km packages.
Owasco has 7 different vehicles available to hire, and one large trailer.
They range from large campervans to Class A RVs, so there’s something for everyone - no matter your group size.
The smallest vehicle is the 19-foot van conversion that sleeps up to two people. The largest is the Class A RV, but the C30 motorhome sleeps more people.
7. Four Seasons - A more budget-friendly RV rental run through Fraserway
- Pick up/drop off location/s - Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Toronto & Vancouver
- Best suited for - couples and small groups
Four Seasons is actually a budget-friendly branch of Fraserway and focuses on more economical rentals.
They offer a complimentary shuttle service to and from major airports if you’re flying into Canada which is always handy.
Each rental comes with basic insurance and 100km per night, so that’s something you’ll want to consider.
If you’re planning a huge road trip around Canada, you'll have to purchase extra mileage packages which will incur more costs.
There are also other extras that you can purchase including a bike rack, electric heaters, child booster seats, and GPS navigation systems.
Four Seasons is also a good future option if you're ever in need of Halifax RV rentals !
There are 5 different vehicles available to hire with Four Seasons ranging from a converted camper to a Class C motorhome.
The campervan is still relatively large though, so if you’d prefer a smaller vehicle it’s a good idea to check out the other rental companies in this guide.
However, it’s a great option for couples as it sleeps two people and comes with plenty of amenities.
No matter which vehicle you choose, it will be equipped with a stove, fridge, water heater, and a toilet.
8. Outdoor Travel - Offers an extensive range of large RVs
- Best suited for - families and groups of friends
Outdoor Travel is a great choice if you’re looking to do a long road trip around Canada as they offer long-term rental discounts.
It’s also the perfect option if you’re looking to purchase an RV in the future as you’ll get a discount on a vehicle within a year of your trip.
Although this rental company is only located in Ontario, it’s still worth considering if you’re travelling as a large family or group.
They specialise in large RVs with space and comfort in mind, so you know you’re in for a great trip.
However, this company isn’t suitable for those looking for a small camper or who aren’t confident drivers as the vehicles are pretty big!
Outdoor Travel has 8 different vehicles available to hire ranging from Class A-C motorhomes.
They have 3 Class A motorhomes, 1 Class B, and 4 Class C so there are plenty of choices.
The largest vehicles sleep up to 8 people, whilst the smaller Class B RV sleeps up to 3 people.
No matter which one you choose, your motorhome will come with a queen bed, a fridge, a toilet, and a shower.
9. Karma Campervans - A great choice for budget RV rentals in Canada
- Price range - $
- Best suited for - couples
If you’re looking for budget RV rentals in Vancouver or Calgary, then make sure you check out Karma Campervans .
Depending on the time of year, you can hire a campervan for as little as $64 per night. This is one of the cheapest prices you’ll find in Canada.
Not only that, but the vehicles at Karma Campervans are 100% off-grid with solar power, so you’ll have access to power at all times during your trip.
They’ve also got a reasonable mileage allowance, as you can drive up to 200km per night. If you’d prefer more than that, there are extra packages available.
This rental company even offers dog-friendly camper vans so the whole family can come along!
Although Karma Campervans only has one type of campervan available, it has everything you could need.
Their Ford Transit campervan has plenty of amenities including a kitchen galley, a stove, USB outlets, and a foldable table.
Bedding is also included, as well as cooking accessories, folding camping chairs, and a built-in heater.
10. RVezy - offers a wide variety of RVs for every budget
- Price range - $-$$$
Like Outdoorsy, RVezy is an online marketplace that offers privately owned motorhomes and campers.
This way you can support the local people, but still benefit from comprehensive insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance, and on-the-go support.
RVesy offers endless listings, and the website is super easy to use. All you need to do is enter your dates, and search the area you want to pick your rental up from.
You can then filter them by price range, amenities, and size.
If you’re looking to rent a camper in Canada, then RVezy is one of the best options!
No matter your budget or size preference, this platform is guaranteed to have something to your liking.
RVezy offers a HUGE variety of vehicles ranging from small campervans to luxury RVs.
You’ll just need to check which amenities are included with each vehicle as this will differ with every rental.
Canada RV/Motorhome Hire FAQ
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Canada?
When it comes to renting an RV in Canada, there are a couple of factors that will affect the price. This includes the age of the driver, the duration of your trip, and the class of your RV .
Generally though, you’re looking to pay between $70-$140 for a small campervan, and between $150-$250 per day for a large RV.
Car rentals in Canada tend to be much cheaper, but you'll also need to account for accommodation costs.
Do you need a special license to drive an RV in Canada?
In most cases you don’t need a special license to drive an RV, an international license is just fine.
However, if you’re planning to rent an RV that weighs over 26,000 pounds, is a Class A with no airbrake, or carries more than 16 people - extra requirements are needed!
How old do you have to be to rent an RV in Canada?
In Canada, you need to be 21 years of age to rent an RV, and you must have had your driving license for at least a year. You’ll also have to pay a young driver's surcharge.
Some companies will require you to be 25 or over, so it’s best to check the company's terms and conditions before you enquire.
Can you rent an RV in Canada and travel into the United States?
Some RV rental companies in Canada will allow you to explore the country and then travel into the United States.
This will all depend on whether the company has depot locations in America, as well as Canada. Companies that offer this include Cruise Canada and CanaDream, and some RV owners on sites like Outdoorsy will also allow this.
Can you camp anywhere in Canada?
The situation on camping anywhere in Canada is a bit hazy! Generally, the only legal place to park up overnight with an RV is on a campground, but don’t worry there are plenty of them.
Free wild camping is only available for Canadian residents and isn’t really suitable for RVs as some of the spots aren’t vehicle accessible.
Are you ready to explore Canada?
Now that you’ve got a rough idea of the best RV companies to choose from it’s time to start planning your trip!
Whether you’ve only got two weeks in Canada, or you’re road tripping the country for a couple of months - there are endless places to visit.
Some of the most popular spots within Canada include Montreal , Toronto , Vancouver , Niagara Falls , and Whistler.
However, the highlight of this beautiful country is its national parks! So, make sure you head to Banff National Park , Yoho, Jasper , and Algonquin as each of these places has so much to offer!

You will receive a list of rental vehicles that suit your requirements—and can narrow the possibilities down further with a range of filters. Select the features, capacity, and review ratings that fit your needs.
All that you need to know about each RV is right there on the main results page, making it a simple process to compare the listings and pinpoint your perfect ride.
Where to start: Picking up your Canada campervan rental
With more than 6,000 kilometers between the east and west coast and territories stretching north into the Arctic Circle, Canada is huge. So choosing the starting point for your road trip is important. Unless you are planning a lengthy cross-country quest, where you begin will have an impact on where you go and what you see during your time on the road.
Here are a few of the possibilities—the most popular pick-up locations for an RV rental in Canada.
An RV rental from Toronto in Ontario will put you amidst the gorgeous Great Lakes. The city itself is bright, busy, and diverse with outstanding museums, galleries, and food. It’s on the shores of Lake Ontario, a quick trip from the spectacular Niagara Falls and the border with the United States. Lake Erie and Lake Huron are also very close by. All are surrounded by charming small towns, national and provincial parks, and beautiful coastal scenery. Capital city Ottawa and the French-speaking urban centers of Montréal and Québec City are within easy reach when you pick up a Toronto motorhome rental.
On the sparkling mountain-backed sounds of Canada’s west coast lies this progressive and outdoorsy city. An RV rental from Vancouver is perfect for nature lovers, offering abundant access to the incredible coastlines of Puget Sound, many gorgeous lakes, the famous Whistler ski resort, and the wilds of Vancouver Island. The stunning Canadian Rockies mountain range is within a day’s drive of the city.
With an RV rental from Montréal , Canada’s French-speaking Québec province awaits. The city itself is sophisticated and charming, infused with both French and Canadian culture, and known for fabulous food. Just three hours’ drive northeast along the St Lawrence River is Québec City, and Montréal is also a great starting point to explore Canada’s far east including lovely, rustic New Brunswick and the scenic maritime province of Nova Scotia.
Located near the edge of Canada’s northern wilds and close to some of the country’s best outdoor recreation spots, this city has a lot to offer travelers. An RV rental from Edmonton will set you up to visit the incredible Jasper National Park which lies just three hours to the west. You could also take your accommodation on wheels to explore the lakes, forests, small towns, and wildlife of northern Alberta.
Essential info for your Canadian RV rental adventure
Driving tips.
Some knowledge of basic road rules and local costumes will set you up for a safe road trip that’s memorable in all the right ways! Our tips for driving a motorhome in Canada are a good place to start—so if you’re driving an RV in the country for the first time or new to Canada’s roads altogether, take a look.
- In Canada, all traffic drives on the right-hand side of the road. This means that drivers (in the vast majority of vehicles) sit on the left side of the vehicle.
- Distances are posted in kilometers, and speeds in kilometers per hour.
- Typically, speed limits are set at 50 kph in urban areas and 80 kph on rural roads. Limits on grade-separated freeways are generally 100 or 110 kph. The highest limit, found in British Columbia on a single highway, is 120 kph.
- Road rules are set by the province or territory, so there is some variation. Do some research on the laws in the area you are visiting.
- Much of Canada is cold and snowy in winter. This can, of course, affect road conditions. You should take extra care when there is ice or snow on the roads and avoid traveling during very adverse weather. Take into account the size and weight of your motorhome when making decisions.
- The blood alcohol concentration limit for driving in Canada is 0.08%.
- Drive carefully in mountainous areas. RVs often travel a little slower than smaller vehicles—if this is the case for you, pull over frequently to allow cars to pass.
- Distances can be deceptive in vast Canada. Always keep your motorhome stocked with food and water, and refuel whenever you get an opportunity to do so.
Perhaps the number one tip we have to make your Canada RV rental adventure go as smoothly as possible is this: listen carefully to any orientation, instructions, or advice you receive from depot staff when you pick up your vehicle. They are the experts in your specific motorhome, so take notes and don’t be afraid to ask any questions that spring to mind.
Canada motorhome road trip ideas
With so many provinces and territories, millions of kilometers of roads and highways, wonderful cities, and an incredible array of landscapes, Canada is a road tripper’s paradise. The difficulty lies in deciding on a route. If you have several weeks or months to explore, you could embark on a cross-country journey and take it all in. If you’re a little more restricted with your time, take a look at our ideas below for some travel planning inspiration.
Vancouver to Calgary: 4-7 days
The highlight of this 1,000-kilometer journey is the Canadian Rockies and gorgeous Banff National Park. Pick up your RV rental in scenic, forward-thinking Vancouver and make your way into the mountains, starting with Kamloops and Revelstoke which are both known as centers for outdoor recreation amidst lakes, rivers, ski fields, and parks. You’ll then enter the Banff region to enjoy some of Canada’s most famous scenery—this trip offers so much to see and do that you could easily spread it over more than a week.
Vancouver Island from Vancouver: 3-5 days
Pick up your motorhome in Vancouver and head across on the vehicular ferry to explore this gorgeous island for a few days—this makes a great addition to a longer road trip starting or ending in Vancouver! Travelers love the quirky, colorful communities, farm-to-table eating opportunities, stunning natural attractions, and outdoor recreation activities.
Toronto to Montréal: 2-4 days
This is a short trip, but it offers myriad opportunities for interesting detours. Pick up your Toronto motorhome rental and head around the lake to see Niagara Falls before getting underway towards Montréal. Pretty Prince Edward Island is a good spot in which to stop, and there are some lovely towns along the rest of the route, too. Don’t miss historic Kingston, and make sure to join a boat tour at Gananoque to see the stunning castles of the Thousand Islands region.
Montréal to Halifax: 4-7 days
Montréal to Vancouver: 14-21 days
If you’ve got the time, we can recommend this epic journey which takes in some of Canada’s most popular destinations: the gorgeous coastlines around Vancouver, the Rockies and Banff National Park, the Canadian prairies of Alberta and Saskatchewan, the Great Lakes, and more. Adjust the route a little to see whatever catches your interest—this will be a road trip to remember.

Camper rental Canada: Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire an rv in canada.
There is a wide range of pricing for motorhome rentals in Canada, as rates depend on the vehicle, the supplier, the pick-up location, and the time of year. You could expect to pay CAD$100 or less per day for a compact motorhome, up to more than CAD$300 per day for a large RV.
To find the rental that fits your budget, submit a search on GoSee with your desired dates and details. From there, it’s simple to adjust the price range filter to narrow down the options to what’s affordable.
How old do I need to be to rent an RV in Canada?
You must be at least 21 years old to rent an RV in Canada. Some suppliers require customers to be at least 25 or may charge a fee for those aged 21-24.
What driving license do I need to rent a motorhome in Canada?
You need a standard license. Foreign licenses can be used in Canada for up to three months, but you should also obtain an International Driving Permit which will include a translation of your license into English and French.
Are taxes included in the rental price?
Yes, taxes are included in the price displayed on the main search results page. When you click into the listing, the cost is itemized to show the daily rates, taxes, booking fee, and any discounts that apply.
Is there a minimum rental period when hiring an RV in Canada?
There is no minimum rental period across the board, but many suppliers do enforce a minimum rental period. You may be able to have the vehicle for a shorter period, but will still be required to pay for the minimum number of days.
Can I sleep anywhere I like in Canada?
No, you cannot camp anywhere you like—but there are plenty of options for legal freedom camping throughout the country when you have a self-contained vehicle. There are many designated free camping sites on public land such as provincial parks, and British Columbia has a network of “recreational sites” where you can often stay for free. Canadian residents can camp for free on Crown land, and non-residents need a non-resident camping permit—which is very affordable.

The opening hours for the depot will be specified in the terms and conditions. When making a search, specify your desired pick-up time so you can see what's available.
What’s included in my RV rental?
Your rental will include the use of the vehicle and the appliances within it. It usually does not include mileage. You can often add accessories like convenience/kitchen kits, camp chairs, child seats, and extra insurances.
When is the best time to hire a motorhome in Canada?
Many consider summer (June-August) and the months close to it to be the best time to embark on an RV rental adventure in Canada. If you want warm weather, that’s definitely true. However, a snowy winter road trip can be spectacular—just take care on the roads ndn make sure there’s a heater included in your rental.
What is the speed limit in Canada?
Typically, speed limits in Canada are set at 50 kph in urban areas and 80 kph on rural roads. On grade-separated freeways, the limit is generally 100 or 110 kph. The highest limit in the country, found in British Columbia, is 120 kph.
