Un día antes de su tour a las 8:30 p.m. Recojo de su hotel de La Paz (centro de la ciudad) 9:00 p.m. salida del Bus La Paz – Uyuni: Arribo 5:00 a.m. nuestro operador local le recogerá de la estación de buses de Uyuni, dará la información detalla del tour y desayuno (por su cuenta).

Nuestra aventura al Salar de Uyuni inicia 10:30 a.m. visitando el cementerio de trenes donde apreciaremos un museo histórico al aire libre de las locomotoras que muchos años atrás dieron vida al pueblo de Uyuni, que está a un kilómetro de la misma.

Visitaremos a salar de Uyuni, desde la salida del pueblo el paisaje no deja de sorprender en todo el trayecto hasta llegar a Colchani, donde la población trabaja la sal y durante la visita nos mostrará el micro-fábrica de refinación salitre, apreciaremos montículos y bloques de sal. Así también visitaremos el mercado donde se vende artesanías elaboradas con sal.

El almuerzo es en la isla del Pescado, un maravilloso lugar en medio de un mar blanco de cactus altos, algunos con más de 100 años de vida. Luego de la comida tendremos tiempo para explorar la isla y tomar fotos a 360 grados, asombrosas desde la parte superior.

Luego en la tarde el recorrido continúa por el salar hasta llegar a la aislada zona de Atulcha, que también es como una gran isla donde se encuentra un pequeño y famoso hotel construido con bloques de sal, también hay muebles de sal.

Tarde Libre en Uyuni: 08:00 p.m.: presentación en la estación de buses.

SALAR DE UYUNI:

El salar de Uyuni es el mayor desierto de sal del mundo con una superficie de 12 000 km², está situada a 3 650 m.s.n.m. al suroeste de Bolivia, en la provincia de Daniel Campos, departamento de Potosí y es parte de la región altiplánica de la cordillera de Los Andes.

La belleza y la soledad en un terreno agreste e inhóspito nunca tuvieron mejor representación que en el salar de Uyuni, rodeado de montañas y volcanes sobre 5 000 m.s.n.m. el paisaje es indescriptible. La sal tiene una profundidad de 10 centímetros hasta 8 metros; asimismo se calcula que contiene unos 10 billones de toneladas de minerales. Aquí también está una de las reservas más grandes de litio en el mundo.

ITINERARY DRY SEASON (MID APRIL TO NOVEMBER)

La paz – sajama national park.

This adventure of a lifetime begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation in La Paz. Climb aboard our 4WD vehicle for a scenic drive toward Sajama National Park across the vast Altiplano (high plateau) for approximately 5 hours on a paved road (time may vary according to driving/traffic conditions). Arrive in Bolivia’s first national park at the foot of impressive Mt. Sajama (6.542m) for lunch. Spend the rest of the day exploring the beauty of Bolivia’s first-ever protected area. Highlights include the highest Queñua forest in the world (dwarf, endemic tree species), natural hot springs, an otherworldly geyser field, an Andean lagoon, native wildlife and the opportunity to enjoy some moderate hiking with the striking views of Mt. Sajama and other snow-capped mountains along the Bolivia-Chile border.

Enjoy homemade dinner in the accommodation of your choice at the end of our first day.

SAJAMA NP TO SALAR DE UYUNI VIA SALAR DE COIPASA

Leaving Sajama National Park, drive south through dirt roads abundant with herds of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas across the vast Altiplano (high plains) along the Bolivia-Chile border en route to Salar de Uyuni. It's a long travel day, but full of surprises along the way. See rugged and snow-capped mountain ranges and stop at traditional villages as well as picturesque archaeological sites before enjoying lunch around noon. Continuing our drive through the Altiplano , get your first taste of beautiful flamingo-filled lagoons and then traverse the country’s second largest (and lesser-known) salt flats: Salar de Coipasa before reaching your accommodation in a small village located on the northernmost tip of Salar de Uyuni at the end of the day.

UYUNI SALT FLATS – FULL DAY

Today, take in the wonders of Salar de Uyuni - the world’s largest salt flats - for an entire day. If wanted, start the day by witnessing a striking sunrise in the Salar *. A full day is then spent exploring as much of the ~10.000 km2 of salt as it is possible. Highlights include Isla Incahuasi – a rocky outcrop covered in ancient coral rock and giant cacti – which provides us with an excellent base for a moderate hike and jaw-dropping views of the endless white. In addition, visit the northern part of the Salar (dry season only) which most people miss. Also, stop by Playa Blanca, a picturesque former salt lodge. Aided by our staff, take your time to get creative with your camera (may want to bring your props along) to take advantage of the depth illusion created by the endless horizon which results in amazing photography (see examples). End the day with a pleasant surprise at sunset (included) weather-permitting.

LAGOONS, DESERTS & WILDLIFE IN EDUARDO AVAROA RESERVE

Resuming our expedition today, we head south of the Salar headed for the remote Eduardo Avaroa Reserve (often considered an extension of the Atacama Desert). Enjoy dramatic views all day long. Stop at several Andean lagoons where the unique wildlife and sweeping views will leave you in awe. Later, traverse the Siloli Desert , located within the boundaries of Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve . Stop at the quirky Arbol de Piedra * (Stone Tree) and other rock formations along the way. The day's grand finale is watching hundreds of pink flamingos at Laguna Colorada * before we retreat into our lodge for the night.

HOT SPRINGS, LAGUNA VERDE – UYUNI (OR SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA)

Our once-in-a-lifetime overland tour comes to an end today. Continuing our drive through Eduardo Avaroa Reserve , we reach the trip’s highest point: Sol de Mañana (Rising Sun, 4.900m) an otherworldly, steaming geyser field. Later, enjoy a soothing soak in the natural hot springs and admire Volcan Licancabur overlooking Laguna Verde (Green Lagoon) before starting to make our way to the city of Uyuni (or optionally at this point, transfer over the border to continue to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile, 1.5 hrs. away - not included but can be arranged through us).

Our tour ends upon arrival in Uyuni from where you can return to La Paz by bus, train or plane (not included, can be arranged through us) or continue your travels independently.

ITINERARY RAINY SEASON (DECEMBER TO MID APRIL)

Sajama np to uyuni.

Leaving Sajama National Park on our second day, we'll drive to an idyllic lagoon with stunning views of Mt. Sajama located just out of the park. It is a long travel day from here, but done on a comfortable, paved highway en route to Uyuni. We make several stops along the way for fresh air and fascinating views of the Altiplano (the highlands). Continue the journey and arrive in the town of Colchani (Plus package) or Uyuni (Standard) at the end of the day. Enjoy an evening of leisure and a well-deserved rest in order to be ready for the amazing day to come tomorrow.

Today’s major highlight is the magnificent Salar de Uyuni. We depart mid-morning, headed for the village of Colchani which is the gateway to the salt flats. Here, you may stroll through a colorful market for a while.

This time of year the Salar is likely to be surface-flooded, so driving in the salt flats is very limited to the outer rim. It will not be possible to get to Isla Incahuasi nor any other island located deeper in the flats. However, our chances of witnessing the surreal “ mirror ” effect are a lot higher. We will provide you with rubber boots and weather permitting, view the sky reflected on the surface creating a unique mirage spanning hundreds of kilometers. We take our time for pictures, enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime lunch and wait for sunset in the evening which – if weather permits – will be one of the most unforgettable experiences of your life with a myriad of colors reflected on this gigantic, natural mirror. Arrive back in the town of Uyuni (Standard) or Colchani (Plus) for a well-deserved rest.

• The itinerary may suffer changes without previous notice due to factors outside our direct control such as weather and/or road conditions. • The entire region is a remote area that lacks the usual comforts of the modern world. You should not expect high standards of accommodation (e.g. WiFi, cable TV, etc.), hot water is available most of the time (according to the respective package) and electricity is available most of the time with occassional outages due to inclement weather.
• Food is handled hygienically and it is our priority that you are satisfied with the limited resources available in this region. Vegetarians are welcome, but should not expect special menus as we do what we can to serve appropriate portions of vegetables and fruit in the vegetarian menu.
• During the rainy season (December to March/April) some parts of the salt flats may be inaccessible, such as Incahuasi Island and time on the actual salt flats is limited. Most of the regular itinerary is followed as normal.
• If you want to start or end this tour in the town of San Pedro de Atacama, this is completely possible. It will only require an additional fee for the transfer between Hito Cajon and San Pedro (or vice versa).
• The following are dates/events in which this tour is available as a SHARED/GROUP departure
• The price published in the date/event is what you would pay if the minimum number of people is reached
• If you are interested in joining any date/event that suits you, please RSVP/register/sign up for it (no payment is required). Ideally, you should join a date/event that already has registered people for better chances of reaching the minimum number. However, don't worry if you are the first one(s), it will potentially encourage others to join your preferred date
