What people love about niagara falls tours.

5 stars for the sights, scenery, hotels and food. Janet did a great job stepping up as our guide. She prepared us for the day ahead giving us details and times and was sensitive to our needs. Domingo did a great job driving. He can turn that bus on a dime.

Niagara Falls Tour Itinerary from New York

To make the most of the day, we will depart at 4:00 am from the bustling Times Square in New York City towards the border between the United States and Canada.

The travel time until we reach Niagara Falls is approximately 7 to 8 hours, with a stop for rest. During the journey aboard a comfortable bus, we will enjoy the beautiful landscapes of northern North America.

Upon arriving at our destination around 11:00 am, we will be amazed by the sight of Niagara Falls. From various viewpoints, we will contemplate the impressive waterfalls while a guide in Spanish and English shares interesting facts about the world’s most famous waterfalls.

To have an unparalleled perspective of the falls, we will approach one of the selected observation points based on current weather conditions. We might visit the Terrapin Point lookout on Goat Island, which offers a unique view of the Horseshoe Falls , the most breathtaking of the three waterfalls.

If you have chosen the option that includes Maid of the Mist, available only from May to October, you will enjoy a boat ride to the falls. The journey will take place aboard the renowned Maid of the Mist boat. You may get a little wet, but we will provide ponchos so you can fully enjoy the experience.

Please note that the itinerary schedules and dates are approximate, as they depend on weather conditions and whether the Niagara Falls are frozen or not*

From New York City to Niagara Falls: 5 Best Ways to Get There

Written by Lavanya Sunkara Updated May 26, 2022 We may earn a commission from affiliate links ( )

Straddling the border between the United States and Canada, the powerful Niagara Falls is a must-see for anyone visiting New York City. Located 400 miles from the Big Apple, Niagara Falls can be reached in several ways: You can choose to go with an organized tour or travel on your own by way of a car, bus, train, or plane.

Niagara Falls, cascading 167 feet into the Niagara Gorge, consists of three waterfalls: Horseshoe Falls (also known as Canadian Falls), Bridal Veil Falls, and American Falls, all of which are located in Western New York. The latter two and part of the Horseshoe Falls are part of the Niagara Falls State Park, the oldest state park in the state. Although the view from Canada is considered to be better, you can experience the splendor of 3,160 tons of water gushing over the crest every second on both sides of the border from various vantage points.

You may want to give yourself more than a day to enjoy the falls and explore the surrounding region in a leisurely manner, and don't forget to bring your passport or an enhanced driver's license to walk or drive across the border on the Rainbow Bridge.

Here are four of the best ways to get from New York City to Niagara Falls to help you plan an unforgettable trip.

On This Page:

  • From New York City to Niagara Falls on an Organized Tour
  • From New York City to Niagara Falls by Plane
  • From New York City to Niagara Falls by Train
  • From New York City to Niagara Falls by Car
  • From New York City to Niagara Falls by Bus

1. From New York City to Niagara Falls on an Organized Tour

Tour boat under a rainbow at Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Falls

Go on an overnight Niagara Falls and Tannersville Tour to explore the falls from both the American and Canadian sides. This organized, guided tour allows you to get up close to the falls and explore the state park. Start your day at 7am and embark on a bus or van journey from Midtown Manhattan at the Gray Line New York tour company and travel through Upstate New York, Delaware Water Gap, and the Watkins Glen State Park in the Finger Lakes region on your way to Niagara Falls.

The tour involves a Niagara Falls State Park Tour, along with a chance to see the illuminated falls from the Canadian side and an overnight stay at the Ramada by Wyndham with continental breakfast the next morning. The second day involves a Maid of the Mist boat cruise (May through October) into the basin of the Horseshoe Falls to experience its powerful spray and thundering waters.

On your way back, stop in Pennsylvania at one of the largest outlet malls, the Crossings Premium Outlet Mall, for bargain shopping. You may still go on the tour, even if you don't have proper documentation to cross the border, but be prepared to stay at the hotel during the Canadian excursion; you may still enjoy the cruise as it departs from the American side.

Consider doing a same-day organized tour from Manhattan to Niagara Falls, like the Niagara Falls in One Day from New York City tour . It packs a lot into a one-day tour, and you get to see the falls from multiple viewpoints (close enough to feel the mist), have some time on your own in Niagara Falls State Park, and get some time for lunch and souvenir shopping. You can even upgrade to a Maid of the Mist boat ride or Cave of the Winds visit, both must-do tourist experiences.

You'll be picked up early (4am departure time) in Times Square, and then take a luxury motor coach to Niagara Falls. The bus has a restroom and makes a rest stop along the way. You'll then be taken back to the same Times Square pickup location between 11pm and midnight.

2. From New York City to Niagara Falls by Plane

Aerial view of Horseshoe Falls, Niagara Falls

Bypass the hassle of driving by hopping on a quick plane ride from New York to Buffalo to reach Niagara Falls. JetBlue, United, and Delta offer non-stop flights from NYC area airports that last less than an hour.

The Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BUF) is a half-hour drive from the falls. Visitors may also fly directly to Toronto Pearson International (YYZ), and drive about 90 minutes to the Canadian side of the falls. Overall time of reaching Niagara Falls by plane is anywhere from three to four hours each way, making flying the fastest way to reach the falls .

If you fly into Buffalo airport, there are a few options for transportation to the falls. You can take a shuttle van, taxi, or an Uber or Lyft. You can also make the trip from the airport to the falls on a public bus. The cost is only $4, but you will need to take two buses, transferring in downtown Buffalo. The journey will take about two hours.

If you fly into Toronto, you can take a shuttle van or a train. GO Transit is the regional transportation provider and has frequent, inexpensive trains to Niagara Falls. VIA Rail, Canada's national rail carrier, has two direct trains each day.

3. From New York City to Niagara Falls by Train

American Falls, Niagara Falls

Two major Amtrak lines connect the Niagara region to cities on the East Coast of the U.S. and Canada. Those traveling from New York City can get on the Empire Service train to the Niagara Falls International Train Station and Intermodal Transportation Center from Penn Station in Manhattan. The Empire Service train operates daily and has Business Class and Reserved Coach Class. The scenic ride takes about eight hours, with stops along the way in Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.

Alternatively, visitors can take Amtrak's Maple Leaf train, which connects New York City with Toronto, with stops at Albany, Syracuse, and Niagara Falls. The total journey is 12.5 hours. Both trains come with free, basic Wi-Fi and Cafe cars. The Maple Leaf train stops at both Niagara Falls, NY and the Niagara Falls, Ontario stations. To get from the train stations to the falls, just hop on the free Discovery Niagara Shuttle.

Once there, the Niagara Falls State Park is less than a 10-minute drive from the station. Niagara Falls State Park is open year-round and offers interactive exhibits, hiking trails, and dining at the Top of the Falls restaurant. The state park's Discovery Pass allows visitors to enjoy the falls on the Maid of the Mist boat cruise.

You can also take the free, hop-on/hop-off Discovery Niagara Shuttle. The shuttle stops right at the train station. The 14-mile "Falls to the Fort" route stops at highlights such as the Niagara USA Visitor Center, Niagara View Points, Old Fort Niagara, Aquarium of Niagara, and Castellani Art Museum, among others.

4. From New York City to Niagara Falls by Car

Niagara Falls at night

Traveling by car allows you the freedom to stop and explore New York State's attractions on your way to its most treasured natural wonder. The drive from New York City to Niagara Falls, involving 400 miles, takes anywhere from seven to eight hours depending on traffic; add more time to cross the border if you are visiting the Canadian side. Drivers can take the I-80 West or go via I-81 N and connect to I-90 West. It's best to leave early in the morning to beat rush hour traffic.

On your drive to Niagara Falls, optional activities include hiking in Harriman State Park (the second largest park in the state), visiting the largest arcade in the state at Robot City Games, and having a stopover in Canandaigua, a charming town ideal for couples.

You can rent a car in New York City for the drive to Niagara Falls. Rental car companies like Hertz, Alamo, Budget, Thrifty, and Avis all have locations at the three NYC airports, as well as in and around the city. The non-airport locations usually have lower rates than airport locations. Keep in mind, most rental car agreements do not allow you to drive the car across the border into Canada, so stay on the U.S. side. Also your personal car insurance may not cover you in Canada, so be sure to research your coverage before your trip.

New York and 19 other states use the E-ZPass cashless toll system and in-car device. If you have one, bring it, and if you don't, consider buying one before your trip. Most rental cars come with an E-ZPass but be sure to review the rules and charges carefully before using it. Drivers in NY can use the tollsbymailny.com website to pay their tolls online within 48 hours of incurring them to avoid extra charges from the rental car company.

5. From New York City to Niagara Falls by Bus

Aerial view of Niagara Falls and Rainbow Bridge

You can also take a bus to get from New York City to Niagara Falls. Greyhound has a daily direct bus that stops in Syracuse and Buffalo. The trip takes about 11 hours and also stops at the border and at the Niagara Falls bus station on the Canadian side. The bus leaves from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown.

FlixBus picks up in Midtown, near Penn Station, and drops off in downtown Niagara Falls, NY. Both companies have buses with restrooms, free basic Wi-Fi, reclining seats, and the ability to carry a lot of luggage. Buses typically emit less CO2 than passenger cars, so it's a greener way to travel, as well as being easy and less expensive than other options.

A short drive from Ithaca, Taughannock Falls State Park is a stunning place to visit with a beautiful waterfall. You will be in for a visual treat, especially if you visit this state park in the fall.

6. Drive from Rochester to Niagara Falls

The drive from Rochester to Niagara Falls is the longest leg of your journey to Niagara Falls, so you can expect plenty of things to see en route. A great place to take a break and stretch your legs is Akron Falls Park , which will be a welcome change from all the driving.

Following I-90, you will soon reach Buffalo, where you can visit Frank Lloyd Wright's Martin House before continuing onto Niagara Falls.

Once you arrive in Niagara Falls , make sure to book a spot on the Maid of the Mist boat tour to admire the majestic waterfalls up close. Keep in mind that you will most likely get wet, so pack water-proof clothes. This tour is seasonal and only runs from April to November.

The amazing Niagara Falls is renowned for its beauty and is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the USA.

Niagara Falls is a popular destination, so there are many accommodation options in the area. That being said, Butler House Bed & Breakfast is one of the best and most homey options, with the majority of the other hotels being chain options.

Start your exciting journey from New York to Niagara Falls by driving north out of the Big Apple and crossing the Hudson River. You will drive past Harriman State Park and get on I-87 and follow the river up north.

On the way, you will find plenty of interesting places to visit, such as the quirky Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh.

Once you arrive in Woodstock, you might think that you are going to see where the famous festival in 1969 has taken place - but guess again! The actual festival did not take place in Woodstock but in neighboring Bethel.

To learn more about the legacy of this bohemian town, you can visit the Woodstock Artists Association & Museum or head to the Karma Triyana Dharmachakra for a spiritual experience during your stay.

2. Drive from Woodstock to Catskill

80 miles (1 hour 50 minutes)

This leg of the itinerary will spoil you with stunning views of the Catskill Mountains. As you head deeper into the forests towards Shandaken on NY-28, you will get to visit Big Indian Wilderness and then the stunning Kaaterskill Falls on your way to Catskill.

Once you arrive in Catskill, take in the views. This area is especially stunning in the spring and fall. Once you have had your fill of the beautiful scenery, you can visit Thomas Cole National Historic Site to learn more about the artist and environmentalist who once called Catskill home.

If all the driving has made you hungry, you can head to the Crossroads Brewing Company for a bite; but keep in mind that they only serve food when the food trucks are there.

When looking for a place to stay in the stunning Catskill Mountains, you might want to find an option that embraces its surroundings.

AutoCamp Catskills does exactly that; this hotel actually consists of log cabins and tents, giving you the feeling of camping under the stars while also providing great amenities like kitchenettes in select rooms and a delicious breakfast option.

3. Drive from Catskill to Albany

30 miles (35 minutes)

The drive from Catskill to Albany on I-87 is really short, so you will have plenty of opportunities to make detours. After all, what is the point of hurrying from one place to another if you have the time?

Some of the amazing places to visit en route on this leg include the historic Bronck Museum and Hannacroix Creek Preserve to enjoy some scenic hikes by the Hudson River. The landscape will soon change from forests and mountains to urban views of Albany.

Once you arrive in Albany, one of the first places we recommend visiting is The New York State Museum . As the state's capital, Albany is also home to the New York State Capitol , a great place to visit for the beautiful architecture of the building alone.

4. Drive from Albany to Syracuse

140 miles (2 hours 10 minutes)

As you leave Albany, hop on I-90 to head west. If you'd like to enjoy spending some time in the great outdoors in between your drive from one city to another, Albany Pine Bush Preserve is home to nearly 20 miles of officially marked trails, and is the perfect stop for easy hikes.

After your visit, continue driving on the interstate to reach Syracuse.

Once you arrive in Syracuse, make the Everson Museum of Art one of the first places to visit. This museum is home to a permanent collection and ever-changing exhibits.

If you are traveling with family, the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is a great place to visit during your city break. This zoo is home to many fascinating animals from majestic elephants to adorable red pandas.

5. Drive from Syracuse to Buffalo

150 miles (2 hours 20 minutes)

To reach Buffalo from Syracuse, you will continue driving west on I-90 and drive past the beautiful Finger Lakes region. If you are interested in extending your trip to visit the famous wineries here, you can find more information on the Finger Lakes Route itinerary above.

If not, you will drive on the interstate and have the opportunity to visit Richmond Aqueduct Ruins without detouring to Seneca Falls. Then, you will keep heading west to Rochester. Here, you can visit the Strong National Museum of Play before following the interstate into Buffalo.

Once you arrive in Buffalo, you can visit Buffalo AKG Art Museum for an educational afternoon. From works of Delacroix to sculptures off Henry Moore, you will be amazed at how extensive this museum's collection is.

For something different, Buffalo Transportation Pierce-Arrow Museum is home to antique vehicles, including bicycles, and historic automobilia.

6. Drive from Buffalo to Niagara Falls

20 miles (25 minutes)

The Buffalo to Niagara Falls drive is the shortest leg of this itinerary, but don't think that it will just be a commute. On the way, you can visit amazing places like Niawanda Park and Buckhorn Island State Park as you drive north on I-190.

Once you arrive in Niagara Falls, you probably will want to visit the actual waterfalls - after all, they are the stars of the show! How about seeing them from a different perspective by taking a Maid of the Mist boat tour ?

This seasonal tour only runs between April and November and does fill up quickly, so make sure to book ahead!

Once you are ready to call it a day, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino is one of the best places to stay in Niagara Falls. In addition to boasting a stellar location, the hotel also has an on-site casino, spa and various dining options.

Best time to go on a road trip from New York to Niagara Falls

While this road trip from New York to Niagara Falls passes through mountainous areas, depending on which route you choose, the scenic drive can be taken year-round since more of the journey takes place on well-maintained roads both on Finger Lakes and Catskills Routes.

While Niagara Falls State Park is open 24 hours a day year-round, summer months are undoubtedly the most popular times to visit. The average daily temperature reaches over 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and you will find all attractions on either route open.

If you are traveling on the Finger Lakes Route in July, make sure to take a look at the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music & Dance 's program.

That being said, prices and visitor numbers are higher during the summer. If you would prefer to avoid the crowds, you might want to wait until September to visit Niagara Falls or plan your trip in early spring when you'll also get to enjoy the trees and flowers in bloom.

Purple and white lupine flowers in Hunter located in the Catskills

You can expect temperatures in the spring to be between 25 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. If you travel during May, you will get to enjoy the Lilac Festival in Rochester on both routes.

Fall will see temperatures in Niagara Falls between 35 to 70 degrees. During this season, the Catskills Route transforms with stunning fall foliage throughout the Hudson Valley. This is also a great time to set off on the Finger Lakes Route, because of the grape harvest season.

You will get to see the wineries as they come to life with events and tasting schedules. If you travel during the fall, we recommend checking out the Woodstock Film Festival in October. You will also get to listen to some great music at the Niagara Falls Blues Festival in September.

If you visit between May and October, you'll have the chance to see the spectacular daily fireworks held at Niagara Falls.

Winters at Niagara Falls can be very cold with average temperatures being between 28 and 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite being cold, winter does give you the opportunity to see the falls partially frozen or covered in snow.

Q: How Does Buffalo Compare With Syracuse, NY?

Both cities offer something a little bit different to travelers, but for those looking for big attractions like Niagara Falls or exploration of the Great Lakes, Buffalo offers a bit more. Syracuse, on the other hand, is a smaller city a few hours east, with better access to the Finger Lakes region and the Capital Region.

Q: How Does Buffalo Compare with Ithaca, NY?

These two cities are incredibly different. Buffalo is a large happening city with hundreds of thousands of residents. That is not the case with Ithaca. Ithaca is a much more quiet and more aesthetic city sitting right on the Finger Lakes of Upstate New York.

Buffalo is a busy place sitting on the doorstep of one of the natural wonders of North America. They are both great destinations, it just depends on what travelers are looking for.

Q: Is There Really Anything Else To See In Buffalo Other Than Niagara Falls

Yes, there is quite a bit to do in Buffalo than just going to see Niagara Falls. In fact, for many who visit the city often, Niagara Falls no longer appears on their itineraries. Buffalo is home to a great food scene, active outdoor events and venues, a bit of theater, and a great deal of passion for their sports. There is so much more to Buffalo than just Niagara Falls .

Memorial Day weekend events: Things to do in New York State

Memorial Day tends to sneak up on us — and if you're looking to escape town and avoid the crowds, take a road trip upstate this holiday weekend to mark the unofficial start of summer. From camping under the stars to scenic boat tours, several destinations offer plenty of family-friendly things to do in the great outdoors.

Holiday History

A weekend in the Finger Lakes region will take you to the very heart of Memorial Day. The holiday dates to the spring of 1865 when upstate Waterloo business owner Henry Welles watched a widow put flowers on the grave of her husband, a Civil War soldier. Struck by the image, Welles resolved to find a way to honor those lost in war. The first Memorial Day took place the next year, and in 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson recognized Waterloo as the official birthplace of Memorial Day.

Holiday celebrations run all weekend in Waterloo , highlighted by a parade and fireworks on May 25. “It’s awesome to see the community come together,” says event chair Sarah Smolinski. “It’s a great way to kick off the summer.” Other events over the three-day celebration, marking its 25th year, include a performance by an Abraham Lincoln impersonator, Civil War re-enactments, and importantly, notes Smolinski, “several ceremonies honoring the people we have lost.” Even if you go later in the summer, you can still tour the National Memorial Day Museum , open Friday and Saturday, noon to 4 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day, with no admission fee (35 E. Main St., Waterloo; wlhs-ny.com ).

From a base on the northern shore of  Lake Seneca , you’ll be about half an hour from Waterloo, but still able to explore the bounty the area has to offer, from fishing (Lake Geneva is known for its annual trout derby) to wine tasting on the Seneca or Cayuga Wine Trails . If the weather cooperates you can take to the water — canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards are available to rent, or head about an hour south to Watkins Glen where Captain Bill’s Lake Cruises offer sightseeing tours and dinner cruises; a 50-minute cruise starts at $28.50 for adults ( senecaharborstation.com ).

Things to do if you’re staying on Long Island:

Air show from the water. Grab a group of friends and board the Bay Princess Charter Boat for a trip to see the Bethpage Air Show, May 25-26. Boarding starts at 9 a.m. from Captree State Park. Tickets are $65. Bonus — you don’t have to worry about parking. (3500 Ocean Pkwy., Babylon; bayprincess.com ).

Escape the crowds . When everyone’s heading east, go west. The Rockaway Hotel has a full-service spa, pool and a wide variety of yoga classes. Rooms start at $470 (108-10 Rockaway Beach Dr., Rockaway Park; therockawayhotel.com )

Baby animals. Play with baby goats, lambs and bunnies at the Harbes Family Farm’s second annual Baby Animal Festival, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 25-27. The festival is free and there’s live music daily from 1 to 5 p.m. If you want to spend the day, the Barnyard Adventure includes activities like a hayride farm tour and pig races; $27.95 (715 Sound Ave., Mattituck; harbesfamilyfarm.com ).

Book a stay at Belhurst Castle (4069 West Lake Rd., Geneva, 315-781-0201, belhurst.com ) which offers three different lodgings including a lakeside inn, rooms start at $358 and dining options include a steakhouse and a tavern. Another option is the 41 Lakefront Hotel (41 Lakefront Dr., Geneva, 800-843-2400, wyndhamkhotels.com ). Rooms start at $279.

Going to bed when it gets dark and waking up with the sun is among the major joys of camping, says Kim Lerner. “I’ve been camping since I was a child,” says the East Meadow resident, who now heads to a campsite with her family at least once a year. “The peace, the beautiful crisp air, the stars in the sky … it all restores your body,” says Lerner. And once you buy the equipment, it’s a pretty inexpensive vacation, she says, noting she’s paid as little as $40 a night for a campsite.

Upstate New York is rich with campgrounds, many in the Catskills or Adirondacks . Lerner likes the Niagara area, where last year the HTR Niagara Campground & Resort was named one of the 10 best in the Northeast. Private campgrounds can be booked through CampNewYork.com , for public campsites, check out newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com .

If you’d like things a little less rustic, choices are endless, from campgrounds that offer tents already set up for you to slightly fancier cabins or Airstreams. For something truly different, you can camp at an abandoned zoo. The Old Game Farm in Catskill (400 Game Farm Rd., theoldgamefarm.com ) offers tents set up in the woods surrounding what used to be enclosures for hundreds of animals (starting at $160 a night). Or you can stay inside, in a building that was once the giraffe house (starting at $175 a night).

And let’s not forget glamping, where niceties like running water and electricity are generally available. Locations like Treetopia in Catskill (starting at $178, treetopicacampground.com ) and Ithaca by Firelight Camps (starting at $328, firelightcamps.com ) offer safari-like tents and cabins with amenities including high-end bedding and comfortable bath houses. Wherever you go, you’ll find all kinds of hiking and biking trails. In the Catskills, consider a tour on Rail Explorers — you’ll ride pedal-powered vehicles as you take a scenic journey along the Esopus Creek (two-and-a-half-hour tours start at $99; railexplorers.net ).

The French company Huttopia has a glamping resort in the Adirondacks. A tent with a queen bed and bathroom starts at $700 for two nights ( Canada-usa.huttopia.com ). At AutoCamp Catskills ( autocamp.com ), you can book a luxury tent, a vintage Airstream, or a family cabin; nightly rates start at $419 on Memorial Day weekend. Rates generally go down significantly for midweek stays.

Go for a ride

Every summer brings with it new rides at the big amusement parks. Six Flags Great Escape in Lake George is introducing The Bobcat this year, a wooden coaster that is billed as family-friendly (though you still have to be at least 42 inches tall to ride). For sheer terror, the park’s Kingda Ka is 456 feet high and considered one of the fastest in North America. Daily tickets start at $39 Memorial Day weekend (1172 State Route 9, Queensbury; sixflags.com ).

Smaller children will get a kick out of the Minifigure Skyflyer, new at LEGOLAND New York in Goshen this summer. The ride sends guests soaring over the park in themed party pods. One-day tickets purchased online start at $54 (1 Legoland Way, Goshen; legoland.com ).

The Great Escape Lodge and Indoor Waterpark offers family accommodations and great options for rainy days. A room for two adults and two children starts at $280 for Memorial Day weekend (89 Six Flags Dr., Queensbury,  sixflagsgreatescapelodge.com ). The Legoland Hotel has themed play areas and nightly entertainment. A room for a family of four, including breakfast and park tickets, starts at $1,147 over Memorial Day weekend ( legoland.com ).

'Water's very big with me,' says Ringo Starr of his Niagara Falls return Back to video

This fall, after rehearsing in Los Angeles and a slew of spring dates, the 83-year-old Beatles drummer will  play at the new OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, on Sept. 22.  He always appreciates getting a chance to stare at the mind-blowing falls.

“The hotel there just looks right on the falls; it’s incredible, and you can hear it all the time,” said Starr, in his L.A. home studio during a global zoom call on Wednesday afternoon.

“Water’s very big with me. You look at the ocean, it puts you in your place. And so we love that venue, and now you’re telling me they’ve built it up. OK, well, we’re ready. We’ll have fun being there. We were there (in 2012) when that guy (Nik Wallenda) was walking a tightrope across the falls and it was great because he was doing it outside our window.”

For this outing, the All Starr Band features saxophonist Warren Ham, Edgar Winter, Steve Lukather (Toto), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band), Colin Hay (Men At Work), and fellow drummer Gregg Bissonette.

“At the start of every tour, (I say), ‘I’m going to do my best for you and I hope you’ll do your best for me, let’s just support each other,'” said Starr. “So, we do that. Musically, it just falls into its right space. I’ve had some members that weren’t as giving as the rest of us, but that happens.”

Looking fit in all black, wearing sunglasses, and with a peace sign around his neck, the octogenarian said he’s feeling well.

“I put some time in,” said Starr. “I work out. I watch what I eat. I’m on the road. I’m making a record. I keep busy, so most of the time I’m in a good space.”

In addition to tour dates, he’s got the May 31 release of his latest EP, Crooked Boy — first released on vinyl for Record Store Day — which is a collaboration with singer-songwriter-producer Linda Perry and features The Strokes’ lead guitarist Nick Valensi on the title track.

“I’ve heard of the Strokes, so I wasn’t completely, ‘What?’” said Starr.

Starr said working with Perry was a good experience, as well.

“She has great spirit,” he said. “We got on. We had a laugh. She can be bossy, but that’s OK.”

Starr also said he’s always down for recording with his Beatles bandmate, bassist Paul McCartney, who remotely wrote and played on the song , Feeling the Sunlight, for Starr’s 2023 EP, Rewind Forward — especially when they can do it in person.

“If he’s in town I say, ‘Bring your bass over. I’ve got a track.’ And he’d come over, and he’d play bass. It’s better when we’re in the room because he’s an incredible bass player, an incredible guy,” added Starr. “He has a big heart … It’s always great to work with Paul. I love the man, and he’s my friend.”

Starr also has a country album in the can with producer T-Bone Burnett that might surprise some people.

“I put bongos on it,” said Starr with a smile. “My mind said, ‘I can’t wait until they hear this in Nashville. Bongos on a country record.’”

Starr says it’s a bit of a throwback to his 1970s country album, Beaucoups of Blues , which was made in just two days with steel guitarist-producer Pete Drake in Nashville.

“It was far out,” said the drummer. “I was singing one of the tracks and (Drake) went, ‘Hoss, put some emotion into it, or I’ll come out and step on your toes.’ I had a great time doing it, but it was really fast.”
