About Pixies
Pixies have been acclaimed as the most influential, pioneering band of the late 80s alt/rock movement, having served as a major influence for artists like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, the Strokes, Weezer, and many more. And today, a whole new generation of music fans has been discovering and embracing the band’s “loudquietloud” signature sound. Quirky, catchy melodies have always been Pixies’ calling card; seven genre-defining studio albums, including the Gold-certified Surfer Rosa , and the iconic Platinum Doolittle , considered one of the all-time, quintessential alt/rock albums. Sell-out crowds all over the globe, Pixies’ live shows are unadulterated magic, simultaneously electrifying and lo-fi. Seventy-five minutes of the band playing anything they want, in whatever order they want, the classics and the new gems. And no two Pixies shows are ever the same.

About Modest Mouse
Having recently completed a sold out 25th anniversary tour for their breakthrough album, 1997’s The Lonesome Crowded West and played a summer ’23 run with Pixies and Cat Power, Modest Mouse continues to prove themselves to be one of the most consistent live acts today. Modest Mouse released their highly anticipated new album, The Golden Casket, on June 25, 2021 via Epic Records. The Golden Casket heralds another new chapter in the GRAMMY® Award-nominated multi platinum band’s unpredictable evolution. Produced with Dave Sardy and Jacknife Lee in Los Angeles and in Modest Mouse’s studio in Portland, the album hovers in the liminal space between raw punk power and experimental studio science, frontman Isaac Brock explores themes ranging from the degradation of our psychic landscapes and invisible technology, to fatherhood. The twelve tracks behave like amorphous organisms, undergoing dramatic mutations and mood swings that speak to the chronic tug-of-war between hope and despair that plays out in Brock’s head.

Modest Mouse is an experimental indie rock band that was formed in Washington state, USA by Isaac Brock, Jeremiah Green and Eric Judy in 1993. The band has had a revolving cast of collaborators which include Granddady's Jim Fairchild and Smiths legend Johnny Marr.
The band takes their name from a Virginia Woolf quote. Truth be told this is quite a fitting lineage as, like Woolf herself, fewer artists give quite as convincing a portrayal of someone on the verge of a mental or nervous breakdown as Modest Mouse.
Isaac Brock’s is the man responsible for that. His voice could convincingly stand up with the likes of Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Morrissey and David Bowie as one of the acquired tastes that you’ll eventually wonder how you ever did without it.
However, it’s when his guttural howl delivers his lyrics that things get truly worrying. The evocative images of everything from the endless dust bowl deserts of the American West, to the sheer expanse of space and the cold, unfeeling ocean posit how we as individual people can possibly mean anything compared to the vast canvas of existence itself. Don’t worry, there’s also some damn catchy choruses in their as well!
Catchy enough to have arguably lead the charge of indie rock into the mainstream after The Strokes and The White Stripes kicked the doors down. They have sold 1.5 million copies of April 2004’s “Good News for People Who Love Bad News”, the album which gave the world their deathless Billboard Hot 100 hit “Float On”. The follow up album 2007’s “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank”, which featured the aforementioned Johnny Marr as a member of the band for the album’s creation and subsequent tour, was certified Gold as well.
On the surface, it would seem that they are an odd band to have Gold and Platinum albums to their name, but look closer and they always temper their experimental and haunting tendencies with solid gold hooks. If R.E.M are no more, they can be satisfied in the knowledge that there are still alternative rock bands bringing literate, profound and edgy rock and roll to arenas and concert halls the world over.
Live reviews
Much to my surprise, the band that appeared at Red Rocks last night was almost unrecognizable from the band I’ve explained above. Taking the stage in broad daylight, to a half empty amphitheater, the two original members (Brock and Green) were joined by six other musicians to deliver a powerful, loud-as-fuck rendition of “Dramamine”. Unfortunately, it would be the only selection from the 90’s, but it was enough to cause a flood of concert-goers to storm the gates and fill the remaining seats. It’s a shame so many people weren’t aware of the early start time (or Modest Mouse’s controversial position in the line-up), but Brock and his new seven-piece band were rocking a full house by the time “Be Brave” segued into “Ocean Breathes Salty”.
Shedding his denim jacket and long-sleeved button-down in favor of the t-shirt below, Isaac Brock’s intensity could be read in his clinched eyelids and quirky facial tics, as Jeremiah Green and Davey Brozowski teamed up on dual drum kits to shake the place with thunderous percussion during “What People Are Made Of”. After a good run of mostly cerebral selections, “Lampshades on Fire” was a welcome jovial moment that convinced me I needed to spend more time with an album I’d all but ignored.
Red Rocks can be a fickle bitch when it comes to weather, so nothing compares to the experience of being there, under a perfectly clear sky, on a warm summer evening. A quick glance up from our position just behind the sound stage revealed thousands of men and women dancing all the way to the horizon. Performing before the sun has a chance to set is never ideal, but if it’s unavoidable, there is no better place to do it than Red Rocks. The view from the stage is spectacular. And that spectacle could be seen in the eyes of the merry band of musicians as they swapped out conventional and unconventional instruments throughout the show.
There was so much going on that sometimes is was hard to keep track of who was playing what. Traditional rock ‘n’ roll tools were augmented with strings and keys and upright bass and sheet metal, not to mention the plethora of guitars Brock cycled through. As the night began to darken around us, a lit joint hung from Jim Fairchild’s mouth during the slightly sinister “Shit in Your Cut”; and then the Melodica came out for “Bukowski”, before a guy and girl (who I don’t think were actually in the band) introduced a pair horns during the full-on jamboree that was “This Devil’s Workplace”. Lisa Molinaro might have been the most impressive multi-instrumentalist up there though. As the night progressed, she demonstrated expertise on the viola, keyboard, and even the banjo (on “Dashboard”), while also lending her voice to backup vocals when needed.

What can't be said about a band that never fails to entertain? With a gentle yet tough sound, Modest Mouse once again brings their specific brand of music to the spotlight. And once again, it was superb to listen to.
Modest Mouse's unique brand of experimental rock is always intriguing. It's a certain style incorporating a clever blend of odd occasional instruments you won't see too often in typical rock bands. But that's the thing, Modest Mouse is far from being your average rock band. You'll hear them play violins, trumpets, hell even a banjo at times. But of course, this simply adds to the uniqueness of their sound.
Ultimately, Modest Mouse is no stranger to awesome songs to rock to, and spectacular ballads to sway to. Things can get as intense as the energizing "Satin in a Coffin", upbeat and fun as "Dashboard", or even calm and provocative as "The World at Large".
Even with their spectacular set list of amazing songs, the band truly sends it home with their frontman Isaac Brock. A genuine person, Brock finds ways to make the band's music feel as real as it can possibly be.
Though it's been 5 years since Modest Mouse has released any new material, seeing them live is more than enough to find out their past albums (with conveniently long titles) still hold strong and true to entertain. But fear not! For a band this good is always working hard to produce new things, and with Modest Mouse, one will learn waiting is common, but oh so worth it. Modest Mouse, how I love you.
Modest Mouse have been touring and performing as a band for over twenty years and their own brand of indie rock continues to delight fans as they appear as popular now as ever. Despite not receiving commercial success from their first few full lengths, when tracks picked from the early days get aired the crowd react incredibly positively.
Their 2007 LP 'We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank' reached #1 in the States so of course a large amount of this material gains best reaction from the audience. Huge singalong moments appear during 'Dashboard' and 'Fire It Up' and although these are quite polished pieces of indie on the record they are incredibly raw when performed live.
The indie rock sound becomes almost garage-like as the instrumental aspect of the live gigs feels more like a jam session than a polished performance. This is endearing though as no matter how big of a venue, the whole show feels incredibly personal and a fantastic showcase of the band's large discography.
I remember hearing about Modest Mouse back in the early 2000s, so I was surprised to see them come to my town and play a sold-out show at a local concert hall. Their live sound is a lot more raw and intense than their singles, such as Float On, which I came to love them for. Instead, they have many songs where they sound more like a garage band than a polished indie force - but that's a good thing! I was impressed by the experimentation the guitarists tried in almost every song.
Even though some of it was very noisy, the majority of the songs were all based on a powerful beat and melody so nothing was really lost. I was actually really appreciative of their live skills, especially how they changed up parts of The Good Times Are Killing Me for a live performance.
The crowd was very respectful during their less-intense songs, especially when the entire band was performing together to make a really awesome folk sound.
Modest Mouse was the supporting act for "Brand New" at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. That was surprising but worked out when we were able to leave after the 2nd Brand New "song" of shouting and headbanging. Punk? Not what I recalled from the Ramones, Clash and The Jam.
Anyway, MM was limited to about 45 min. and played with energy and enjoyment - http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/modest-mouse/2016/greek-theatre-berkeley-ca-6bff5e42.html
The voice audio was muffled and supressed in volume, awful, rendering comments from the band incomprehensible and the poignant vocal counterpoints lost. I'll look for a better context next time...
Modest Mouse is an incredible band. They are proof that amazing musicians still exist! But this was a Tuesday night show and we expected them to headline. We received a last-minute notice that was unclear and half-suggested that MM might go on first. We missed the first 45 minutes of their performance. And as well as the band played, they didn't seem to want to be there. Maybe that's because the sound was awful - something was wrong with Isaac's mic the whole time. Something was off. I can't wait to see them again but next time, I hope it will be at a different location. Oh, and we didn't even wait for Brand New to play.
I saw Modest Mouse in Santa Barbara on 5/19/18 and I was very disappointed with their performance and felt ripped off. My largest complaint is they didn't play Float On. I mean, you better have a lot of hits to skip your one-hit-wonder. I like some of their other songs but Float On is by far their best. My second complaint is the band sounds terrible live, they sounded out of sync, out of tune, and were just blasting us with ear-cringing noise. I have since seen Brandi Carlile and Norah Jones at the same venue and the acoustics were great, so Mosest Mouse just isn't talented enough to see live. Save your money
We were told by the venue "The Greek Theater" that "there will not be an opening band" and that "Modest Mouse" will start at 7:00 promptly. Well, actually Modest Mouse was the opener for a crappy band called "Brand New". Modest Mouse only played a short set and the last thing the lead singer said was "my throats dry" and they quit, never to return not even for an encore. Sound was off terribly. I spent a lot of money and drove a long ways to be disappointed in this terrible concert, and believe me, I've seen a lot of them. And the venue lied, why even send me an email with that kind of info? Get it together.
Modest Mouse put on a good show. As far as stage presence goes, most of the band were just kind of standing in their spot focusing on the instruments. Only the lead singer really put on a "performance" and he was pretty over the top sometimes.
The band could have sounded a lot better if they had just turned the volume down maybe 10-20 decibels. It's not the band's fault, the venue is smaller in size and I've been to other shows there, so I know it has a history of lousy sound quality, but it was seriously loud for such a small building.
Definitely go see them!
Went to both Detroit shows and they couldn't have been more different. First show we stood one riser up main floor. The band was great. They didn't play as long as we had hoped. Only one short encore. Thursday show we were right at the stage in front of Isaac. Totally different crowd and the band fed off that amazing energy. They knocked it out outta the park! Fantastic night and two encores and just a fantastic show. So glad we went to both. Isaac's sweet sense of humour and cheeky rhetoric made me love him even more.

Pixies and Modest Mouse Reunite for 2024 Tour with Special Guest Cat Power
This year, three of the biggest names in indie rock will come together as the Pixies and Modest Mouse announce a month-long North American tour with Cat Power. Following a successful 20-show series at the end of last summer, the new tour begins on May 31 and continues through the end of June for a total of 23 new dates. This run from the titans of alternative will bring their music to some areas missed by the original tour, notably including seven shows in the South and seven new venues in the Midwest.
The 2024 run will start in Charleston, S.C., with a performance at Firefly Distillery on May 3 commencing the trio’s first Southeast series. In the region, the tour will pass through PNC Music Pavilion in Charlotte, N.C on June 1, Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tenn., on June 2 and Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park in Atlanta–Cat Power’s hometown–on June 4. Next, the bands trek north to Cincinnati to play The Andrew J Brady Music Center on June 5, followed by gigs at Toronto, Ontario’s Budweiser Stage and Laval, Quebec’s Place Bell on June 8 and 9. The tour returns to the states on June 11 with a show at Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion in Gilford, N.H., preceding engagements at Philadelphia’s TD Pavilion at the Mann on June 12 and the iconic Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md., on June 14.
The tour hits the Big Apple on June 5 by way of Queens, N.Y.’s Forest Hills Stadium. Next, the groups progress to Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Mass. on June 16 before a Midwest run of Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights, Mich., Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago, Surly Brewing Company in Minneapolis, Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wis., Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, Iowa and Starlight Theatre in Kansas City on June 18-24. The trio of acts will then jump down to Texas for appearances at Germania Insurance Amphitheater in Austin, Texas and The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Irving, Texas, on June 26-27, followed by Walmart AMP in Rogers, Ark. on June 28. Finally, a performance at Fiddler’s Green in Denver on June 30 will bring the tour to a close.
All of the featured acts join this tour with new momentum as veterans in the indie scene. This year, Modest Mouse will celebrate the 20th anniversary of fan-favorite album Good News for People Who Love Bad News , as well as three decades of live performance. Cat Power is currently riding renown for her 2022 full-length album covering Bob Dylan’s 1966 Royal Albert Hall concert, the third covers album in the artist’s discography. Meanwhile, the Pixies continue to reorient following the addition of bassist Paz Lenchantin, who officially replaced Kim Deal in 2016; Doggerel , the third studio album from the band’s current iteration, leans towards rough punk-inspired sounds.
Presale tickets for the 2024 tour will be available for Citi cardmembers on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 10 a.m. local time. General onsale begins Friday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. local time at ticketmaster .

Modest Mouse Announce The Lonesome Crowded West 25th Anniversary Tour
Marking the first time the band has performed their sophomore album from start to finish
Modest Mouse have announced a 2022 North American tour to mark the 25th anniversary of their sophomore album, The Lonesome Crowded West . Though nearly every track from the LP has been rotated through the indie rockers’ setlists, it will mark the first time that the band has performed it from start to finish.
“The Lonesome Crowded West Tour” kicks off on November 18th in Missoula, Montana. The jaunt will also feature a two-night stand in Seattle and stops in cities including Los Angeles, Austin, Chicago, Boston, and Washington, DC before wrapping on December 17th in New York City. See the full itinerary below.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10:00 a.m. local time on Friday, September 9th via Ticketmaster . A pre-sale will precede the public on-sale beginning on Wednesday, September 7th (use code VENUE ).
Modest Mouse will also be releasing a limited vinyl picture disc available for pre-order as an add-on to each ticket purchased. It will also be on sale at each show. Take a look at the artwork below.
Back in December, Modest Mouse nearly performed The Lonesome Crowded West in its entirety at a Seattle benefit . As singer Isaac Brock explained, they skipped “Lounge” because he had to make the drive himself, and “it’s a fucking hard song.”
In July, Consequence sat down with Modest Mouse ahead of their set at Mad Cool Festival 2022 for an interview in which Brock teased “a seven or eight song EP” which is “a companion piece” to last year’s The Golden Casket .

Having recently completed a sold out 25th anniversary tour for their breakthrough album, 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West and played a summer ’23 run with Pixies and Cat Power, Modest Mouse continues to prove themselves to be one of the most consistent live acts today.

ABOUT CAT POWER
With a catalogue of songwriting that’s unparalleled in the worlds of indie rock and American music at large—spanning several decades and ten studio albums—Marshall’s work as Cat Power has defied genre and convention, her legacy rippling through the work of a wide range of contemporary musical luminaries ranging from Lana Del Rey, Clairo, and Soccer Mommy to Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Angel Olsen. There’s a rawness and immediacy to Marshall’s music that has stood the test of time, with every new musical missive from her as essential as what’s come before it.

Modest Mouse Plot ‘Good News’ Tour, New Album
By Brian Hiatt
Brian Hiatt
Modest Mouse ‘s Isaac Brock has been known to take as long as eight years between albums, but nearly three decades into his band’s career, he’s ready to pick up the pace. Three years after the release of the well-received The Golden Casket , he’s already recorded enough songs for a new Modest Mouse album with producers including Jacknife Lee and Dave Sardy, and intends to put one out by next spring. “In my early days of putting out records, I wrote music every fucking day,” he tells our Rolling Stone Music Now podcast. “And then sometime after The Moon and Antarctica , I spent less time and then I spent less time and less time, and then gaps got big and I didn’t like that. So, yeah, I’m happy to be back to writing every day again.”
The interview centers around the 20th anniversary of Modest Mouse’s classic major-label breakthrough, Good News for People Who Love Bad News (which has an expanded reissue out now), and Brock also reveals that he’s tentatively planning a tour for the fall featuring the original band that played on that album, including drummer Benjamin Weikel, who filled in for the late Jeremiah Green. “It’s the only record where I can do a tour with all the living members, all the exact same members,” he says, acknowledging that he’s still figuring out how to fill out the rest of the set list.

PIXIES’ frontman Black Francis will be bringing you surreal lyrics, Joey Santiago is set to deliver aggressive guitar work and David Lovering is going to set the stage alight with his awesome drumming skills. Meanwhile, MODEST MOUSE will be bringing their alternative rock vibes and post-punk energy that they’re loved for worldwide. And let’s not forget Special Guest CAT POWER who will be delivering a whole new element to your favorite Bob Dyan tracks.
Book your places today and vibe out with these indie rock titans this June!
PIXIES are the prodigies of American alternative rock. This all-star band is known for their signature sound that is characterized by aggressive guitar work, surreal lyrics, and dynamic shifts in volume. Formed in the late ‘80s in Boston, the rock band consists of frontman Black Francis, lead guitarist Joey Santiago, and drummer David Lovering. The PIXIES latest setlist during their 2024 Bossanova x Trompe le Monde European Spring Tour included belters like The Surftones cover “Cecilia Ann,” the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart-topper "Velouria," as well as the dreamy and atmospheric “Motorway To Roswell.”
Meanwhile MODEST MOUSE is an indie rock powerhouse that burst onto the scene in the '90s and continues to captivate audiences today with their unique blend of alternative rock vibes and post-punk energy. Led by the charming frontman Isaac Brock, their music is a dynamic blend of raw guitar riffs, experimental melodies, and introspective lyrics that speak to every generation. During their latest gig at The Momentary in Arkansas, MODEST MOUSE gave audiences yet another unreal performance playing bangers like the energetic “Doin' the Cockroach,” “Dashboard” from their 2007 celebrated album ‘We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank,’ as well as the poetic and introspective “3rd Planet”.
But that’s not all this, these HUGE names in indie rock will be joined by Special Guest CAT POWER. The mastermind behind CAT POWER is Chan Marshall. This pioneer pens emotionally raw tunes and delivers them with a potent mix of strength and vulnerability. Her earliest albums like 1996's ‘What Would the Community Think,’ reflects on the influence of New York's experimental rock scene. And her latest eleventh studio LP is a brilliant new live album featuring impressive Bob Dylan covers. This March she played at the renowned Royal Albert Hall and wowed audiences with iconic covers like “She Belongs to Me,” “4th Time Around,” and “Visions of Johanna.”
For this super exciting event at the Cadence Bank Amphitheatre, you can expect the very best in alternative music. Secure your place today and join us under the starlit Atlantan sky this June!
