The Stratford Tourism Alliance has appointed an interim executive director.
The STA says Zac Gribble has been appointed and will start in the position on June 29th, replacing outgoing executive director Lori DeGraw.
Over the last 25 years, the STA says Gribble has been involved with many tourism initiatives and brings a unique entrepreneurial perspective and approach to that focus.
The interim executive director position will last for a 12 month period and the STA says there will be an open call for applications for the permanent position when it is appropriate to do so.

Stratford politicians request more in-depth study and tourism-alliance review before implementing tourism tax
After significant public and industry backlash following council's approval, in principle, of implementing a municipal accommodation tax in Stratford, councillors decided on Monday that the concept requires more study before a final decision can be made.

After listening to a presentation by a resident concerned with the impacts a municipal accommodation tax could have on local businesses and tourism, Stratford politicians decided Monday night the proposal needs more study before a final decision can be made.
Delegate Roy Norton, who said he was speaking in the city’s best interest and not on behalf of any business or organization, outlined what he sees as the potential risks of implementing the proposed tax, which a majority of council, despite significant industry backlash, already voted to support in principle.

Among his concerns, Norton said residents and business owners don’t know how either the city or the Stratford Tourism Alliance would spend their half of the revenue, whether the four per cent tax rate suggested by staff – the maximum rate allowed by the province – is appropriate for Stratford, and whether the tax will be applied to all short-term rental accommodations in addition to bed and breakfasts, hotels, motels and other similar businesses currently licensed in the city.
“You might want to consider retracting, for the moment, your approval in principle pending some further, pretty serious and substantial research,” said Norton, recommending council establish a task force to study the concept of a municipal accommodation tax.
While council didn’t retract its previous approval in principle of the tax, despite the best efforts of Coun. Cody Sebben, councillors largely endorsed the idea of forming a committee to investigate the concerns of Norton and other members of the public in tandem with the public consultation process already in motion.
“This is actually a really healthy time for us to take a step back and really ask some hard questions. … What is our plan? What does (the Stratford Tourism Alliance) truly need? … I think taking a step back and having that thorough and thoughtful conversation is how we could potentially be able to move forward,” Coun. Brad Beatty said.
Taking another Norton recommendation, council also voted to have staff work with the Stratford Tourism Alliance – a separate organization with the city as its only shareholder – to conduct a comprehensive review of its services.
“Maybe this is a separate item or project to the creation of the (committee),” Coun. Jo-Dee Burbach said. “I’d love to see the (tourism alliance) comprehensive review done separately so we can have a look at. If the (tourism alliance) is going to be spending the (municipal accommodation tax) money or even if it’s not, it’s still spending city money. I would like to have a look at how that’s being done, and especially reviewing the membership model that we have right now.
“I think that it’s not really serving the community too well.”
At council’s direction, city staff will bring back more information at the March 23 council meeting about forming a committee to investigate a municipal accommodation tax further and conducting a comprehensive review of the Stratford Tourism Alliance.
