    Lake Bunyonyi, the 2nd deepest lake in Africa is located in south-western Uganda between Kisoro and Kabale, near the border with Rwanda. When to visit uganda, january to february, high season.

January through February bring relatively hot weather with clear skies, minimal rainfall, and plenty of sunshine, making it an excellent time to visit Uganda for gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking safaris in the lush forests.

During this period, the northern countryside of Uganda can become hot and dusty.

MARCH TO MAY

March marks the start of the rainy season, making it an ideal time to witness the birth of many animals. Additionally, birdwatchers will enjoy spotting a wide variety of colorful winged creatures during this time.

April is the wettest month in Uganda, and as a result, parks tend to be quieter, and some roads are impassable. March is also the low season, which means, budget travelers can enjoy discounted hotel and lodge rates.

In May, the first rainy season of the year draws to a close, bringing with it lesser downpours and an astonishing display of greenery throughout the countryside.

JUNE TO AUGUST

Peak season.

June marks the beginning of the peak season in Uganda, thanks to its stunning dry weather that extends through August. It's the perfect time for a safari, attracting many tourists to the country. September marks the end of Uganda's dry season; however, the onset of the rainy season can vary, and you may experience occasional downpours during your Uganda safari. While this may not be ideal for some, it presents a cost-saving opportunity for those willing to brave the rain. It's noteworthy that gorilla trekking excursions may be affected during this time.

October is a relatively quiet month for safaris in Uganda, with reasonable prices and opportunities for special deals on accommodation and transport. While most game parks remain accessible, the rainfall can be unpredictable for gorilla treks during this time of year.

Security & Traditions

To visit Uganda as a tourist, a single-entry, three-month visa is required, which costs US$50. All visa applications must be made through the Uganda immigration online system at visas.immigration.go.ug , and require a completed application form, two passport-size photos, and the correct visa fee paid at least a week before travel. Obtaining a visa on arrival at Entebbe International Airport is no longer possible. Additionally, your passport must be valid for at least six months from your intended travel date and contain at least one blank page.

Health & Vaccines

While there are no COVID-19 requirements for visitors to Uganda, proof of yellow fever vaccination is mandatory. The Ministry of Health also recommends Hepatitis A and B vaccinations for all visitors, and adventure travelers to rural areas should consider taking the typhoid vaccine. Malaria is a significant health risk in Uganda, so it's essential to consult with your doctor to obtain antimalarial pills before your trip. To avoid mosquito bites, sleep under a mosquito net at night and wear insect repellent during the day. Additionally, it's best to drink bottled or filtered water to stay healthy during your stay.

Phone & Internet Connection

Entebbe, Kampala, and other large towns and most tourist areas have good phone network coverage. However, signal strength can be variable in some remote areas. Local SIM cards are affordable, and international calling bundles make it easy to stay connected to home. It's best to have your mobile phone unlocked to use local sim-cards before arriving in Uganda; although unlocking services are available in Kampala, this may delay your travel plans. Wi-Fi is widely available in almost all lodges in the countryside, although the connection quality may vary.

Uganda is a year-round destination, with an average altitude of around 1,000m and a location squarely on the equator that helps to moderate the heat. The highest rainfall occurs between March and May and October and November, but gorilla sightings are still possible during these months, albeit with slippery and slower trekking conditions. A Gorilla permit in Uganda for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park costs USD $700 per person (july2020). A Rwanda gorilla permit for Volcanoes National Park cost USD $1500. This was increased recently from $750 in case you’re wondering. A gorilla permit is a license issued to the traveller allowing them to be guided in the gorilla jungle to find a habituated gorilla family and spend close to 60 minutes in their presence.
