Promoters announced the new run of shows yesterday (September 18), adding one-off dates in Western Australia (a gig at the Sandalford winery in the Swan Valley, scheduled for Saturday March 18) and the Northern Territory (at the Botanical Gardens on Saturday May 6), as well as two new dates in Queensland and one in NSW.

The tour will kick off on Saturday January 14 and Sunday 15 in the idyllic Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, with a further four shows in the state spread out across the itinerary. Punters in QLD will also have six opportunities to catch the tour, while those in NSW will have five, South Australians will have four, and Tasmanians will have two.

Tickets for the five new shows will go on sale at 9am local time this Thursday (September 22), with a Ticketmaster pre-sale kicking off at 10am tomorrow (September 20). Find more details on that, and tickets for the other 20 shows, here .

Rounding out the line-up for all but one show – in the QLD town of Southport – will be a joint performance from Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley , plus sets from Mark Seymour (of Hunters & Collectors fame) and Vika & Linda . For that Southport show, Moss will perform solo.

In a press statement, Red Hot Summer’s promotor, Duane McDonald, said: “We are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting. The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible. The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists.

“We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.”

McDonald’s excitement was echoed by many of the artists appearing. In his own statement, Kelly noted that “the last two years have brought home how precious live music is to us and to those who come”, and that he and his band are “going to bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last, because you never know what’s around the corner”.

Fanning also riffed on how keen he is to hit the road again, particularly since he’ll be visiting some areas of Australia for the first time ever. He said: “I can’t wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career.”

Higgins, too, noted that “it will be so good to get back on the road and play in so many incredible parts of the country”. She continued: “The past few years have shown us that we can’t take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, it’s what I love to do most. I’m also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists.”

Lastly, Seymour declared the Red Hot Summer tour to be “one of the biggest tours on our national music calendar”, gushing about how the run “does what few other festivals can” and “goes to where people live, which is pretty much everywhere”. He continued: “Reaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill in 2023.”

The red hot summer tour is back in 2023.

The  Red Hot Summer Tour  is back in 2023

The  RED HOT SUMMER TOUR  is bustling into 2023 with a line-up of Aussie music icons including  Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning  & more. The Red Hot Summer Tour 2023 is shaping up to be one of the most popular in the touring festival’s history.

Paul Kelly  has been writing songs, making records and touring for over forty years. Along the way he has released over 40 albums, including live concerts, compilations and soundtracks. For the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR run he will be playing a generous selection from his ever-green, ever-selling greatest hits record Songs From The South, as well as delving into a range of songs from his vast catalogue.

Bernard Fanning  has accumulated one of the most celebrated songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. The former Powderfinger frontman has collectively released 11 studio albums producing songs that have become ingrained in the Australian psyche. With over 20 years of touring, expect a rock show with swagger, entertaining banter, crowd interaction and a display of pure musical talent by a member of Australian rock royalty and his band who are the perfect accompaniment to his wide-ranging set list of heartfelt country – folk tinged charm and classic rock grooves.

Missy Higgins  is one of our most beloved singer/songwriters and has won nine ARIA awards and multiple APRA Awards. The stories Missy shares through song writing come to life on stage as enjoyed by the thousands of fans who attend her concerts.

Mark Seymour  formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980 with a bunch of Uni friends. The band become famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the ‘next big thing’. The album Human Frailty has proven to be one of the most important and enduring records of the 80s.

Vika & Linda’s effortless harmonies and journey through rock, country, gospel, reggae, R&B, soul and blues, while always paying tribute to their rich Tongan heritage, has earned the respect and admiration of their greatest fans – the renowned Australian artists they’ve performed and recorded with, and whose work their voices have enhanced.

Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley , two powerhouse artists, joined forces in 2022 for one of the year’s most successful tours. A truly remarkable partnership, with simplicity proving to be a powerful vessel to tell a story and share a song, will continue into 2023 via the RED HOT SUMMER. Ian Moss, a founding member of one of Australia’s greatest bands, Cold Chisel, is respected globally as one of our most iconic musicians. Troy Cassar-Daley, a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man, comes from a long line of storytellers and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest songwriters.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

It’s a warm autumn day in Perth and today has been earmarked in 14,000+ people’s calendars for quite sometime – since the date was locked in for this amazing venue, the beautiful Sandalford Winery. Kick off is scheduled for 1pm – the gates will open and the flood of eager music aficionados will trickle down the hill, finding the path of least resistance to secure their piece of real-estate to witness this Australian rich performance. Once their location is locked in, the trek begins back up the hill to secure sufficient hydration before Vika & Linda open their account.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

Vika & Linda burst onto the stage with a ton of energy and thanked the crowd for their amazing support. Two power-house female vocalists from my era (Black Sorrows), rocking out matching outfits with their unique twists a-typical of siblings. They share stories of their musical journey from times gone by travelling the world with the Black Sorrows, working with both Paul Kelly, Mark Seymour and carving out their successful sisterly voyage.  It was a generous setlist consisting of new and older tracks – highlight for me was “Never Let Me Go”. That song is one of my personal favourites, with both Vika and Linda sounding just as crisp as the version I have in my collection (Harley and Rose album 1990) – a real tribute to just how good they are. The bar had been set really high!

red hot summer tour set times 2023

It is a rare moment to capture two different genres crossing over live on stage, especially when those genres are headlined by two of the most iconic Australian performers that I have ever seen. Troy Cassar-Daley and Ian Moss . I have one huge problem with this act – a glaring issue… both artists were on each side of the stage and I only have one set of eyes. How do I focus on both amazing artists – the fear of missing out was intense….. who’s idea was this? Talk about first world problems. The chemistry on stage was electric, with each artist bringing their own personality, but they were keen on one upping the other in a game of musical tag. The banter was hilarious and genuine (particularly around the merch). Highlight for me was the version of “Bow River”. Both Troy and Ian are spectacular to watch and compliment each other really well … we off to a flying start!!!

red hot summer tour set times 2023

Up next was Mark Seymour , and just when you thought you could not get anymore people into the standing only section of Red Hot Summer, the Mark Seymour fans said, “Hold my beer” with the section packed tighter than a parachute. From beyond the front rail it felt that we had just let in another 5000 more people, to the point that punters had to breathe in rhythm because of the lack of space. Mark delivered hits from his solo back catalogue right through to the Hunters & Collectors, keeping the faithful away from the bar and singing in tune. Highlight for me was the 14,000+ sing-along of “When The River Runs Dry”, the 1989 classic and there was no one in that winery that was not singing along – a real testament to just how good Mark is and how he has influenced so many people’s music taste.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

Like a cool Autumn breeze Missy Higgins floats across the stage – smile brimming from ear to ear, you just can’t help smiling as well, she is so infectious – we all know we are if for an absolute treat. Rocking a blue jumpsuit, she looks stunning and we all know Missy is ready to put on a stellar show. Perched in front of her trusty set of keys Missy gets to work quickly, conversing with her fans about her tour so far, her appreciation for the moment and her private life (her recent divorce) paying special mention to her recent tattoo and its significance. Missy shares with us her affinity with WA and the special place it holds in her heart for the music that she writes. It is a personal set that everyone loves. Highlight for me was “Special Two”, its powerfulness shared among the countless fans.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

Bernard Fanning enters the entertainment arena – there is a certain aura about him, joking with the fans you can tell he is excited to be here. It feels like he is a family member that has been away for so many years and we finally have him home, we are ecstatic to see him and hear of his tales of musical grandeur. Bernard gives the fans what they crave – the old, the new and the powder……I know there is not enough time of his set to give me (personally) every song I love from this talented champion but that’s ok. He sung, he strummed and he stunned!!!! Lyrically he delivered on point with little reprieve and all I know is that massive bar up the back would have been empty for his whole set……empty!!! Highlight for me, and it’s a tough one but  I would have to say “Wish You Well” off one of the most poignant albums for me “Tea & Sympathy” – truly awe inspiring.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

And then there was Paul…… WOW ……I have always loved Paul Kelly . There is something about his music , his story telling, his personal spin, which allows to him to guide you through the Paul Kelly Experience. His music is more than just notes or lyrics…. It feels like every song he has written has a piece of Paul in it. It was a path that everyone in the audience was willing to walk – we sung, we laughed, we reminisced, and we felt the every inch of the festival commute. The sold out Red Hot Summer crowd appreciated the technical prowess of such a melodious master. There was no single highlight for me….. the whole set was a highlight – from “How to Make Gravy”, “From Little Thing, Big Things Grow”, “To Her Door”, “Every Fucking City”, “Bradman” plus a heap more. He topped my experience and I was buzzing all the way home.

red hot summer tour set times 2023

Red Hot Summer 2023 is like sitting at a table with all your favourite meals (an amazing spread) and it is all you can eat – guaranteed to put you in a food comma, the music will fill your soul and RED HOT SUMMER is the 5 star Michelin chef…….. this event is always high on my social calendar, it is a MUST for any serious music lover.  Make sure you secure your tickets and pencil it in your diary so you can get your music fill.

Bon Appetit!

The Rockpit would like to thank Red Hot Summer , Zaccaria Concerts & Touring & Hot Off The Press for the access and experience.

The Red Hot Summer Tour returns in 2023 with an iconic all-Australian line-up

Mark seymour, vika & linda, and ian moss & troy cassar-daley, tickets go on sale 9am aest thursday 1 st  september 2022 via ticketmaster.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR returns in 2023 with a phenomenal line-up bringing together some of the most iconic names in Australian music. The tour features Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda and Ian Moss & Troy Cassar-Daley and will visit Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland.

Tour promoter Duane McDonald can’t wait to hit the road in 2023. “We are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting,” he says. “The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible. The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists. We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.”

Paul Kelly  has been writing songs, making records and touring for over forty years. Along the way he has released over 40 albums, including live concerts, compilations and soundtracks. He has collaborated with many other artists, notably writing  Treaty  with Yothu Yindi and co-producing Archie Roach’s landmark debut album  Charcoal Lane . His awards, too numerous to mention, include 17 ARIAs and an Order of Australia. He has published several books, including collections of his lyrics, a memoir  How To Make Gravy  and an anthology of his favourite poems  Love Is Strong As Death . Paul’s songs have a way of digging into the country in a way that few artists do – how it looks, feels, tastes, sounds. The joys and sorrows, achievements and follies. If you want to know something about Australia, how it feels to be Australian, you can find it in his songs. His live shows in recent years reveal a performer and band at the peak of their powers. They bring all the shades and colours. Passionate, dramatic, tender and emotional. For the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR run he will be playing a generous selection from his ever-green, ever-selling greatest hits record  Songs From The South,  as well as delving into a range of songs from his vast catalogue.

We’re really looking forward to these shows. The last two years have brought home how precious live music is. To us and to those who come. We need each other. We’re going to bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last. Because you never know what’s around the corner. –  Paul Kelly.

Bernard Fanning  has accumulated one of the most celebrated songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. The former Powderfinger frontman has collectively released 11 studio albums producing songs that have become ingrained in the Australian psyche. Tracks like  My Happiness ,  These Days ,  Sunsets ,  Burn Your Name ,  Wish You Well,   Songbird ,  Blue Toowong Skies  and  Belly Of The Beast  have become the moving soundtrack for a generation, with Bernard’s emotive and distinctive voice completely capturing our hearts. He has a trophy cabinet that holds seven number #1 albums, 23 ARIA Awards, and five APRA Awards to name a few… his songs have appeared in triple j’s Hottest 100 an incredible 23 times including three #1 spots for  These Days  (1999),  My Happiness  (2000) and  Wish You Well  (2005). It’s fair to say Bernard Fanning has firmly cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters and lyricists.

I can’t wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career. –  Bernard Fanning.

Missy Higgins  is one of our most beloved singer/songwriters and her acclaimed studio albums,  The Sound of White ,  On  a Clear Night ,  The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle,   Oz  and  Solastalgia  have sold more than two million copies. Classic songs like  Scar ,  The Special Two ,  Steer ,  Everyone’s Waiting  and  Futon Couch , plus her unforgettable live shows, have made Missy an authentic household name. She has won nine ARIA awards and multiple APRA Awards. Missy also received a Screen Music Award for Best Original Song composed for the Screen for Australian Film  Don’t Tell .  Earlier in 2022, Missy released mini-album  Total Control  featuring songs inspired initially by the musical fragments she wrote for the powerful ABC TV Series of the same name. The songs pick up themes of exploitation and female empowerment that run through  Total Control  and which also dominated real world headlines last year as a string of abuse allegations emerged from Parliament House. The stories Missy shares through songwriting come to life on stage as enjoyed by the thousands of fans who attend her concerts.

It will be so good to get back on the road and play in so many incredible parts of the country. The past few years have shown us that we can’t take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, it’s what I love to do most. I’m also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists. –  Missy Higgins.

Mark Seymour  formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980 with a bunch of Uni friends. The band become famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the ‘next big thing’. The album  Human Frailty  has proven to be one of the most important and enduring record of the 80s. With  Human Frailty,  Mark discovered love, loss, and pop melody – his solo records are directly connected to this era and bear the same stamp of raw honesty and emotional power. He continues to search for the emotional truth in a song. As well as 13 Hunters and Collectors albums, Mark has released eight further albums. Mark Seymour is one of our finest songwriters, capturing our stories of love, loss, human courage and achievement.

The Red Hot Summer has grown into one of the biggest tours on our national music calendar. It does what few other festivals can. It goes to where people live which is pretty much everywhere. Reaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill in 2023.  –  Mark Seymour .

Paul Kelly says  “Their voices combined sound salty-sweet and have that elusive twinned quality you only get when siblings sing together …  They  make the air beat in sync.”   In September 2021, Vika & Linda released  The Wait , their first original studio album since 2002. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart.  The Wait  has continued a triumphant period for Vika & Linda which saw them score their first number one album with their career anthology,  ‘Akilotoa , and three months later a #2 debut for their gospel collection,  Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso) .

Ian Moss , a founding member of one of Australia’s greatest bands, Cold Chisel, is respected globally as one of our most iconic musicians. A multi-award winner, Mossy, who delivers a unique sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but also with his silken voice ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul – was described by Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker as  “the most gifted musician I’ve ever seen.”  Enough said.  Troy Cassar-Daley , a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man, comes from a long line of storytellers and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest songwriters. On his way to collect every accolade possible including ARIA’s, APRA’s, Golden Guitars (the most in the awards history), Deadlys, National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) and more, he has written with Paul Kelly, penned the anthemic  Shutting Down Our Town  for Jimmy Barnes, and recently Briggs sampled Troy’s harrowing and impactful story of  Shadows On the Hill . No matter what story Troy is telling via song you just need to listen.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR always sells out around the country and the 2023 line-up is highly anticipated. Don’t miss this massive 2023 celebration of Australian music.
