Speaking in anticipation of the tour, Paul Kelly voiced how much he and his fellow performers are looking forward to taking the stage. “The last two years have brought home how precious live music is. To us and to those who come. We need each other. We’re going to bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last. Because you never know what’s around the corner” Kelly said.

Touring through largely regional communities across the country, Red Hot Summer Tour will play a spread of shows in towns like Bendigo, Victor Harbor, Wodonga, Launceston and Toowomba just to name a few.

Tour promoter Duane McDonald said the team “can’t wait to hit the road again in 2023”. “We are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting,” he said. “The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible.”

“The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions and supporting phenomenal Australian artists. We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year” he said.

The tour kicks off its first leg on Saturday 14 January 2023 at Mornington Racecourse in Victoria, with tickets going on pre-sale at 10.00am AEST on Tuesday 30 August 2022 and general sale at 9am AEST on Thursday 1 September 2022 via Ticketmaster.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR returns in 2023 with a phenomenal line-up bringing together some of the most iconic names in Australian music. The tour features Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda and Ian Moss & Troy Cassar-Daley and will visit Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland.

Tour promoter Duane McDonald can’t wait to hit the road in 2023. “We are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting,” he says. “The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible. The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists. We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.”

Paul Kelly has been writing songs, making records and touring for over forty years. Along the way he has released over 40 albums, including live concerts, compilations and soundtracks. He has collaborated with many other artists, notably writing Treaty with Yothu Yindi and co-producing Archie Roach’s landmark debut album Charcoal Lane . His awards, too numerous to mention, include 17 ARIAs and an Order of Australia. He has published several books, including collections of his lyrics, a memoir How To Make Gravy and an anthology of his favourite poems Love Is Strong As Death . Paul’s songs have a way of digging into the country in a way that few artists do – how it looks, feels, tastes, sounds. The joys and sorrows, achievements and follies. If you want to know something about Australia, how it feels to be Australian, you can find it in his songs. His live shows in recent years reveal a performer and band at the peak of their powers. They bring all the shades and colours. Passionate, dramatic, tender and emotional. For the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR run he will be playing a generous selection from his ever-green, ever-selling greatest hits record Songs From The South, as well as delving into a range of songs from his vast catalogue.

We’re really looking forward to these shows. The last two years have brought home how precious live music is. To us and to those who come. We need each other. We’re going to bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last. Because you never know what’s around the corner. – Paul Kelly.

Bernard Fanning has accumulated one of the most celebrated songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. The former Powderfinger frontman has collectively released 11 studio albums producing songs that have become ingrained in the Australian psyche. Tracks like  My Happiness ,  These Days ,  Sunsets ,  Burn Your Name ,  Wish You Well,   Songbird ,  Blue Toowong Skies  and  Belly Of The Beast  have become the moving soundtrack for a generation, with Bernard’s emotive and distinctive voice completely capturing our hearts. He has a trophy cabinet that holds seven number #1 albums, 23 ARIA Awards, and five APRA Awards to name a few… his songs have appeared in triple j’s Hottest 100 an incredible 23 times including three #1 spots for  These Days  (1999),  My Happiness  (2000) and  Wish You Well  (2005). It’s fair to say Bernard Fanning has firmly cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters and lyricists. With over 20 years of touring, expect a rock show with swagger, entertaining banter, crowd interaction and a display of pure musical talent by a member of Australian rock royalty and his band who are the perfect accompaniment to his wide-ranging set list of heartfelt country – folk tinged charm and classic rock grooves.

I can’t wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career. – Bernard Fanning.

Missy Higgins is one of our most beloved singer/songwriters and her acclaimed studio albums,  The Sound of White ,  On a Clear Night ,  The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle,   Oz  and  Solastalgia  have sold more than two million copies. Classic songs like Scar , The Special Two , Steer , Everyone’s Waiting and Futon Couch , plus her unforgettable live shows, have made Missy an authentic household name. She has won nine ARIA awards and multiple APRA Awards. Missy also received a Screen Music Award for Best Original Song composed for the Screen for Australian Film Don’t Tell .  Earlier in 2022, Missy released mini-album Total Control featuring songs inspired initially by the musical fragments she wrote for the powerful ABC TV Series of the same name. The songs pick up themes of exploitation and female empowerment that run through Total Control and which also dominated real world headlines last year as a string of abuse allegations emerged from Parliament House. The stories Missy shares through songwriting come to life on stage as enjoyed by the thousands of fans who attend her concerts.

Mark Seymour formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980 with a bunch of Uni friends. The band become famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the ‘next big thing’. The album Human Frailty has proven to be one of the most important and enduring record of the 80s. With Human Frailty, Mark discovered love, loss, and pop melody – his solo records are directly connected to this era and bear the same stamp of raw honesty and emotional power. He continues to search for the emotional truth in a song. As well as 13 Hunters and Collectors albums, Mark has released eight further albums. Mark Seymour is one of our finest songwriters, capturing our stories of love, loss, human courage and achievement.

Vika & Linda’s effortless harmonies and journey through rock, country, gospel, reggae, R&B, soul and blues, while always paying tribute to their rich Tongan heritage, has earned the respect and admiration of their greatest fans – the renowned Australian artists they’ve performed and recorded with, and whose work their voices have enhanced.  Paul Kelly says “Their voices combined sound salty-sweet and have that elusive twinned quality you only get when siblings sing together …  They make the air beat in sync.”   In September 2021, Vika & Linda released The Wait , their first original studio album since 2002. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart. The Wait has continued a triumphant period for Vika & Linda which saw them score their first number one album with their career anthology, ‘Akilotoa , and three months later a #2 debut for their gospel collection, Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso) .

Ian Moss  and  Troy Cassar-Daley , two powerhouse artists, joined forces in 2022 for one of the year’s most successful tours. A truly remarkable partnership, with simplicity proving to be a powerful vessel to tell a story and share a song, will continue into 2023 via the RED HOT SUMMER. Ian Moss , a founding member of one of Australia’s greatest bands, Cold Chisel, is respected globally as one of our most iconic musicians. A multi-award winner, Mossy, who delivers a unique sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but also with his silken voice ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul – was described by Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker as  “the most gifted musician I’ve ever seen.”  Enough said. Troy Cassar-Daley , a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man, comes from a long line of storytellers and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest songwriters. On his way to collect every accolade possible including ARIA’s, APRA’s, Golden Guitars (the most in the awards history), Deadlys, National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) and more, he has written with Paul Kelly, penned the anthemic Shutting Down Our Town for Jimmy Barnes, and recently Briggs sampled Troy’s harrowing and impactful story of Shadows On the Hill . No matter what story Troy is telling via song you just need to listen.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR always sells out around the country and the 2023 line-up is highly anticipated. Don’t miss this massive 2023 celebration of Australian music.

A line-up stacked with legends will hit 18 regional centres next year

The Red Hot Summer Tour has brought some of Australia's biggest names to regional areas for years now. The tradition continues early in 2023, with the touring event locking in a stunning line-up for their latest iteration.

The tour will take in 18 dates across the country, stopping by everywhere from Hobart to Wodonga to Bribie Island, offering a bill that will delight both locals and tourists alike.

Leading the charge is the incomparable Paul Kelly , a man with more Australian anthems than the Commonwealth Games and who continues to play captivating, beautiful, joyous sets everywhere he goes.

Revered solo artist and Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning has been a little quiet on the live front in recent years, so news of his return to touring as part of the Red Hot Summer event is reason for excitement.

"I can't wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption," Fanning said in a statement.

"A lot of the towns on this run I have never played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career."

The brilliant Missy Higgins has been back wowing crowds in recent months with some huge shows that remind us of her brilliant songs and warm and engaging performances. She will bring her best work, old and new, to these shows, and her presence

Mark Seymour has a history with the Red Hot Summer tour and is excited to get back to some lesser visited parts of the country, showcasing the enviable catalogue of work he's built up across his 40+ year career as one of our finest songwriters.

"Reaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill," he says.

If you're yet to see Vika and Linda play since the release of their brilliant latest album The Wait , then we suggest marking one of these dates in your calendar pronto. They are on fire and will make sure the spirit is just right at these shows.

Closing out this bill are two legends. That's obviously an overused word, but when you're talking about Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley , that's the term you must use. Two of the finest songwriters and performers in the country are the cherry on top of an outstanding bill.

Catch the following artists on the Red Hot Summer Tour early next year:

Paul Kelly , Bernard Fanning , Missy Higgins , Mark Seymour , Vika & Linda , Troy Cassar-Daley and Ian Moss

Here are the dates they'll be playing:

Saturday 14 January – Mornington Racecourse

Saturday 21 January – Marchy Ann Reserve, Mannum

Saturday 22 January – Seppeltsfield, Barossa

Saturday 28 January – Mackay Park, Batemans Bay

Saturday 4 February – Westport Park, Port Macquarie

Saturday 11 February – Berry Showground

A favourite for Ballarat's music festival circuit, this year's Red Hot Summer brings Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika and Linda, and Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley to the city on Saturday, March 4 next year.

The touring festival hits dozens of regional cities from January - tickets will go on sale 9am Thursday September 1.

Paul Kelly will return to Ballarat in March. Picture supplied

Previous years have sold out, with thousands of music fans enjoying a day out in the sun, though the 2020 festival was postponed several times only to come roaring back in March this year .

Tour promoter Duane McDonald , from Miners Rest, said in a statement he is looking forward to getting back on the road.

"The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible," he said.

"The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists.

"We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year."

Speaking to The Courier , Linda Bull from Vika and Linda said the tour is always a special experience, and she was keen to come back to Ballarat after selling out Civic Hall with Paul Kelly earlier this year.

Vika and Linda Bull will perform classics and songs from their new album. Picture supplied

"It feels like a big party, we've worked with Paul for many years, and he's written songs on (our new) record, and Bernard and Mark Seymour," she said.

"The crowd's great, they always arrive early, they don't just arrive for the main act - I remember playing Red Hot Summer years ago, and there were three girls up the front all with Barnesy and Cold Chisel shirts on, they were looking at Vika and I like 'what are these chicks going to do?', they had their arms crossed, but by the end of it they were dancing and I was rapt."

The singers' new album, The Wait , came out last year, but they've only just been able to tour it.

"it feels fresh to me, and people are loving the shows and the songs, and that means everything," Ms Bull said.

"It's been really great to do those rooms on our own, really great audience reception, the band's been amazing."

Despite a 36-year journey through the music industry, becoming bona fide Australian legends in the process, Ms Bull said she was getting a surprising amount of recognition after the lockdown-induced gospel songs collection, which was released as a compilation last year.

"Honestly, I get stopped the most for that part - the Sing Songs, what we did in lockdown, is the thing that people recognise Vika and I the most, it's the thing people stop us in the street for the most," she said.

"It's cool as anything, I love that, it just connected somehow, and it means everything to me, I'm so proud of that."

The Red Hot Summer Tour returns in 2023 with an iconic all-Australian line-up

Mark seymour, vika & linda, and ian moss & troy cassar-daley, tickets go on sale 9am aest thursday 1 st  september 2022 via ticketmaster.

It will be so good to get back on the road and play in so many incredible parts of the country. The past few years have shown us that we can’t take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, it’s what I love to do most. I’m also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists. –  Missy Higgins.

The Red Hot Summer has grown into one of the biggest tours on our national music calendar. It does what few other festivals can. It goes to where people live which is pretty much everywhere. Reaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill in 2023.  –  Mark Seymour .

Tickets for the 2023 RED HOT SUMMER TOUR go on sale via Ticketmaster at 9am AEST on Thursday 1 st  September 2022.  Tickets are only available through authorised ticket outlets listed. Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda Bull, and Troy Cassar-Daley will come to Launceston in February as part of the tour, which will see the all-star lineup travel the country for five-months.

Hunters and Collectors front-man and main-songwriter Mark Seymour said the festival did what few others could by bringing a huge tour outside of the main cities.

"It goes to where people live which is pretty much everywhere," he said.

"It's a great gig, but you've got to really bring yourself to the party - I'll pretty much go out there, and it'll be a rock and roll gig".

For Vika & Linda, the festival will be like a get-together of old friends and collaborators.

"It feels like kind of getting together with a bunch of mates, like putting together your ideal dinner party or something," Linda Bull said.

On the back of last year's critically acclaimed album The Wait , the celebrated soul-act said they were riding a wave of productivity they wanted to bring to the tour.

"I think the minute we had to stop, we wanted to keep going, but we want to do it in our own way," Linda Bull said.

"As far as live performances go we tailor the set to the audience, we know that they want to be entertained, . so we bolt out of that gate as much as we can and give them what they want."

RED HOT SUMMER   TOUR  is thrilled to announce its next series of dates for the 2024 season from one of Australia’s most sought-after summer festivals.  These iconic outdoor shows will take place centre stage in Mornington, Yarra Valley, Bribie Island & Perth, and for series two, this mega-line-up will be co-headlined by SIMPLE MINDS  and ICEHOUSE .

It’s been over 40 years since Scottish superstars, SIMPLE MINDS, toured Australia for the first time in 1981 when they were invited by their good friends, ICEHOUSE. History repeats itself as they come together on stage all these decades later.  Says Jim Kerr, “ we had the best time during that six-week period, and we’re ecstatic to be able to come back and to do it all over again with our mates, Icehouse!  We love everything about this band and Australia. We are always welcomed with open arms and have such a special bond with our Aussie fans.  We can’t wait to get back there and play in some of the best outdoor locations in your beautiful country.”

Iva Davies  went on to say “back in 1981, on ICEHOUSE’s first journey overseas, we were introduced to Simple Minds and their great stage presence when we went on the same tour supporting them around the UK.  It was an exciting time and we all got on so well that we asked Simple Minds to support us when we returned to Australia.  They did and Australians became one of the most welcoming audiences in the world for them.  I’m really looking forward to our co-headlining tour next year – it will be an opportunity to relive some memories and thrilling to see how far we’ve all come since those first shows.”

With a career spanning over 45 years, ICEHOUSE is one of Australia’s most iconic bands, transcending age groups with their hit songs, well known and loved by audiences across generations, playing to sell-out, capacity audiences in Australia, New Zealand and throughout the world.  Formed by Iva Davies, the band’s frontman and musical creative force, ICEHOUSE went on to have an amazing 28 Platinum albums, eight Top 10 albums and over thirty Top 40 singles.

ICEHOUSE’s unofficial Australian anthem, Great Southern Land, has been a part of almost every Australian’s summer soundtrack for the past 40 years and in 2014, it was inducted into the National Film and Sound Archive’s Sounds of Australia registry. It’s also been remixed a number of times, most notably Bill Laswell’s  The Great Southern Mix , clocking in at almost 16 minutes, and the  Byrralku Dhangudha remix  from 1994, which features Indigenous musicians playing and singing the chorus in their own language. Its message is as current and relevant today as it was when it first appeared.

In 2017, the band received another tribute when Qantas invited the public to vote for the names of the planes for their new fleet of Dreamliner 787-9s. Out of over 60,000 name suggestions submitted, Great Southern Land won the honour of the very first plane in the fleet being named after the iconic hit.  In the same year, ICEHOUSE also celebrated 40 years of live performance with a national Australian tour and several outdoor performances in New Zealand and has continued to perform selected concerts for sell-out audiences in both countries since then.

SIMPLE MINDS are one of the UK’s most successful bands that have achieved worldwide success. Having sold over 60 million albums, they have experienced a remarkable journey since releasing their debut album  Life In A Day  in 1979. Over the course of their stunning career, SIMPLE MINDS have sold out stadiums and arenas across the globe. Constantly evolving, the band’s rousing choruses and booming atmospherics made them one of the most iconic bands of the 80s. Their trademark sound has earned them massive hits – with songs such as  Promised You A Miracle, Glittering Prize, Don’t You (Forget About Me), Alive and Kicking, Sanctify Yourself, Belfast Child  and  Let There Be Love  dominating the airwaves   globally .

A ustralia was the first country in the world, outside of the UK, to embrace SIMPLE MINDS, giving the band its first-ever hit single  Love Song  and first gold album ‘New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84)’. The love affair has continued ever since.

NOISEWORKS  provided the soundtrack to every big night in the 1980s, with rock anthems  No Lies, Take Me Back, Hot Chilli Woman, Touch , and countless others. Get ready to rock as the original members reform to honour the memory of their co-founder and guitarist, the late, great, Stuart ‘Chet’ Fraser. Jon Stevens, Steve Balbi, Kevin Nicol, and Justin Stanley will be joined by very special guest Jack Jones on guitar and vocals. With the release of their new 2022 album, along with all their legendary hits, Noiseworks will reignite a passion for rock n roll!

DARYL BRAITHWAITE  is an iconic Australian singer/songwriter and ARIA Hall Of Fame Inductee. As the frontman and vocalist for the 1970s band Sherbet, Braithwaite rode a wave of local and international success with songs such as  Howzat  and  Summer Love  propelling the band to superstar status.

Braithwaite went on to embark on a highly successful solo career which included a No. 1 ARIA Album Chart for his album Edge (1988), featuring the hit singles  As The Days Go By  and  One Summer . Braithwaite’s 1990 follow-up album Rise included the single  The Horses  which reached No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart and to this day remains an anthem for generations of Australians. In 2020, he joined a host of local and international artists to perform at Fire Fight Australia, Concert For National Bushfire Relief in front of an audience in excess of 70,000 at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

In 1992, Tania Doko and James Roche formed  BACHELOR GIRL , and the duo became one of the most loved Australian acts of the 90s & early 2000s, enjoying Australian and international success in Asia, Scandinavia and the US (including signing with the legendary Clive Davis at Arista Records). Standing out with their exceptional song writing and Tania’s warm, powerful vocal, both PPCA and APRA have reported a massive achievement for the band – their hit single  Buses and Trains  was the most played Australian composition on Australian radio in its first year of release and during the last 25 years overall. In 1999,  Buses and Trains  also received the coveted APRA ‘Song of the Year’ award, while the critically acclaimed debut album ‘Waiting for the Day’ spawned five chart-topping, radio-friendly singles (including  Treat Me Good  and  Permission To Shine ), reached double platinum certification and an ARIA win to the duo for ‘Producer of the Year’.

After a brief hiatus to pursue their individual musical paths as writers and producers for outside artists in Sweden and the U.K, Tania and James reunited to release their socially conscious single  Speak , in 2018. With their hit-studded and dynamic live set, Bachelor Girl have secured impressive support slots, including international heavyweights Eurythmics and The Goo Goo Dolls. More recently, the band has special guested on widely popular festival gigs such as Day on the Green (with John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite et al.), the Red Hot Summer tour, and can also add Icehouse to the list of iconic acts they have toured with.
