An 18-year-old boy from Louisiana was celebrating his recent high school graduation during a sunset cruise in the Bahamas Wednesday when he reportedly jumped overboard on a dare, triggering a large-scale search.

Cameron Robbins, who graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge this past Sunday, was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from several local high schools, staying at Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau, reported the station WAFB.

On Wednesday evening, just four hours after their arrival, Robbins and his friends went on a sunset party cruise.

According to witnesses, around 9:40 p.m., the 18-year-old — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off the boat into the ocean near Athol Island.

Robbins was last seen splashing in the dark waters a few feet from the boat, before vanishing from view.

The boat, designed to resemble a pirate ship, remained in the area for several hours as crew members tried to find the teen.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, assisted by the US Coast Guard Southeast, has been searching for the missing teen from the air, but so far without success.

University Lab School Director Kevin George said Robbins attended the school for all 13 years of his education and was a pitcher on the school’s baseball team.

What to know about Cameron Robbins' disappearance

Cameron Robbins, 18, graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge in May and was on a trip to the Bahamas with students from several local high schools.

According to witnesses, the teen — who was apparently acting on a dare — took a plunge off a party cruise into the ocean near Athol Island at night.

Robbins was last seen splashing in the dark, “shark-infested” waters a few feet from the boat, before vanishing from view.

A chaotic video taken moments after the jump also shows the recent graduate ignoring onlookers’ pleas to grab a buoy.

The party ship remained in the area for several hours while the crew looked for Robbins.

The Coast Guard  called off its own search two days later , after reportedly scouring over 325 square miles.

His younger sister is a junior at the school.

“He’s an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair,” George told the station WBRZ .

“Just one of the kids you’re so proud of when they cross the stage.”

The principal released a statement on behalf of the school, saying that the University Lab School community was praying for Robbins’ safe return.

“I have been in touch with Cameron’s family and at this time, authorities are still searching for him in the Bahamas,” George wrote.

“In times like these, we must come together and support each other. Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling.”

Robbins’ parents arrived in the Bahamas Thursday, when a prayer vigil was held at the resort where their son was staying.

A separate prayer circle for Robbins was held the same day outside his former school in Baton Rouge.

Cameron Robbins, a Louisiana resident, was celebrating his high school graduation when he was reportedly dared to jump overboard on a cruise.

EXCLUSIVE: A group of students tried to physically stop Cameron Robbins from jumping off a Bahamas cruise ship last week after he was reportedly dared to take the leap, Fox News Digital has learned.

Robbins, 18, was on Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise with several hundred high school graduates from Baton Rouge, Louisiana , and jumped overboard into what authorities called "shark-infested" waters near the uninhabited Athol Island, northeast of Nassau, around 9:30 p.m. on May 24.

A woman whose son was friends with Robbins and on the boat at the time told Fox News Digital that several students tried to grab Robbins before he took the plunge, but he broke free.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said many of the students were part of a close-knit community that was in shock, disbelief, exhausted and cold as the U.S. Coast Guard , Royal Bahamas Defence Force and United Cajun Navy searched the waters until about 3 a.m.

The small, pirate-lookalike cruise ship was anchored throughout the night, and the students were stuck at sea near the uninhabited island in what Royal Bahamas Defense Force Commodore Raymond King called "shark-infested waters."

Experts have told Fox News Digital there is a vast array of marine life, including dolphins, tiger sharks and bull sharks in those waters that feed off the scraps from the boats.

"This was a booze cruise, and they were on their way back when this happened," the one student's mother said. "My son texted me when it happened, saying, ‘Cameron jumped off. They can’t find him.' They were out there until 2, 3 in the morning.

"It was terrible weather that night. The kids were cold, wet and traumatized. The girls were in bikinis and bathing suits. The guys were giving them their shirts. It was a bad time to bring drunk 18-year-olds out into waters near this island where there's nothing."

The two-day, 325-mile search for Robbins was called off Friday night. "We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement.

The viral cellphone video of Robbins in the water, which was seen over 10 million times, went through virtually every type of edit on social media after a speculation-fueled narrative that Robbins encountered a shark gripped people's curiosities.

The video appears to show a shadowy object in the water move toward the recent high school grad, who was swimming toward a life preserver before changing direction.

However, the cellphone footage is too dark and chaotic to definitively show what happened, and the theory is no longer officially being investigated at the request of Robbins' family, Brian Trascher, spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy, told Fox News Digital on Friday.

"None of the experts consulted can definitely say what's in the video due to the quality and length of the video," Trascher said. "The Robbins family has requested that we not entertain that theory any longer, so our official position is that we don't know what happened while Cam was in the water."

Authorities officially designated Robbins as "lost at sea," which is the same as a death certificate, and a memorial service for Robbins will be held Sunday at Broadmoor United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge.

The cruise was not sanctioned by University Laboratory School, where Robbins had just graduated. It was planned by an independent company called GradWeek , which released the following statement to the media last week:

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Robbins Family during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for the Robbins family’s privacy, we feel it’s inappropriate to comment on the details surrounding the night of the incident.

"Bahamian Authorities have been conducting a thorough investigation of the incident and can provide the most accurate information once they have completed their investigation."

SEE IT: Video Shows Louisiana Teen Moments After Jumping from Cruise Ship, Search Called Off

overboard cruise ship dare

A video has surfaced showing boat passengers in the Bahamas moments after an 18-year-old Louisiana star baseball player jumped off the ship in response to a dare, resulting in a fatal outcome.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Cameron Robbins, who had just graduated from University Laboratory School (U-High), jumped off the boat as a dare on May 24. A video obtained by DailyMail showed Robbins splashing in the water near the boat before he vanished.

At the time, Robbins and students from other schools were on a graduation trip at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau.

At 11:30 p.m. on May 24, Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel contacted watchstanders from Coast Guard District Seven, informing them that someone had fallen off the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise ship.

According to a witness, crews made multiple unsuccessful attempts to locate Robbins as the boat, resembling a pirate ship, stayed in the area for several hours. On Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard called the search off , according to CBS 9.

U-High baseball coach Justin Morgan issued a statement following the tragedy.

“Cameron is a kid who is truly loved by his teammates, teachers, and fellow classmates. He is a fierce competitor on the baseball field. He is a hard worker both on and off of the playing field. Our school community is struggling right now but hoping for the very best. Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with the Robbins family during this difficult time.”

Coast Guard ends search for missing Louisiana teen who fell overboard in the Bahamas

overboard cruise ship dare

The U.S. Coast Guard has ended their search for a Louisiana teenager who fell overboard from a sunset cruise in the Bahamas on Wednesday night.

Cameron Robbins, 18, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was staying at the Atlantis Paradise resort in Nassau with other teenagers to celebrate their recent high school graduation, WBRZ reported. Robbins had just graduated from University Lab School a few days earlier.

The group landed in the Bahamas on Wednesday and later went on a pirate-themed sunset cruise with a company called Blackbeard’s Revenge. According to a news release , Royal Bahamas Defence Force personnel contacted Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders on Wednesday at 11:30 p.m. and reported that a man fell off the Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise ship and entered the water.

The ship was near Athol Island an uninhabited island located northeast of Nassau, according to WBRZ. Videos show Robbins jumping from the boat and swimming with a life preserver nearby.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating claims that Robbins jumped overboard as part of a dare, according to WBRZ.

The Coast Guard assisted the Royal Bahamas Defence Force in search efforts by deploying aircrews.

The agency announced it was concluding its search on Friday evening after covering over 325 square miles.

"We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family," said Lieutenant Commander Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, in a statement.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends," Spado added.

The family of Robbins flew out to the Bahamas on Thursday, WAFB reported.

"The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge," the family said in a statement. "We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us. In this time of grief, we thank our family, friends, and well-wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss."

Going overboard on a cruise is a rare occurrence, according to experts. Between 2009 and 2019, 212 overboard incidents were reported worldwide. Of those, only 48 were rescued. Typically, tall railings help prevent accidents.

“The University Lab School Community is praying for the best possible outcome of this situation. The Independent has reached out to University Laboratory School for comment.

What happened?

Mr Robbins and others on the trip were aboard a sunset cruise on a ship called Blackbeard’s Revenge on the evening on 24 May when Mr Robbins was allegedly dared to jump off the boat.

In a statement provided to The Independent, Jonathan Chia, a representative for Pirates’ Revenge Ltd, the parent company of Blackbeard’s Revenge, said Mr Robbins went overboard at approximately 9.40pm local time in Montagu Bay off Athol Island in the Bahamas.

Video captured in the moments after Mr Robbins jumped into the water showed the 18-year-old swimming around the vessel as passengers on the sunset cruise yelled at him.

In the video, individuals can be heard urging Mr Robbins to grab onto the buoy that they threw into the water for him.

Mr Chia said: “The crew executed the ‘man overboard’ protocol in line with all approved safety procedures and company policies to ensure the best chance of retrieving an individual who has gone overboard.”

Royal Bahamas Defence Force Commodore Raymond King said in a video posted to Facebook that the area where Mr Robbins allegedly jumped into, “is an area that is really shark-infested”.

Rumours of the waters being “shark-infested” have not been confirmed by the US Coast Guard.

The Independent has reached out to the US Coast Guard for comment.

What were the search efforts?

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force contacted the US Coast Guard, District Seven around 11.30pm local time to report Mr Robbins had fallen overboard, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.

"US Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to an agency assistance request from our partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force,” Lt Commander Mathew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas said in the statement.

Mr Chia said Pirates Revenge Ltd worked closely with Bahamian authorities and the Us Coast Guard during the incident and will continue to participate with authorities in the investigation.

For several days, the Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force searched the location and waters surrounding the location Mr Robbins had disappeared in using aircrews and search patterns.

After Coast Guard crews searched more than 325 square miles, they concluded their efforts with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force on 27 May.

"We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family. We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends,” Mr Spado said in the statement.

A GoFundMe has been started to benefit Mr Robbins’ family as they deal with the aftermath of the difficult situation.

Although searches have ended, the US Coast Guard is asking anyone with new information to contact the District Seven watchstanders at 305.415.6800.

In a statement, Mr Chia said that Pirates’ Revenge Ltd: “Reviewed all safety measures and protocols and are confident that the company’s practices were and continue to be in line with the highest industry standards to keep its passengers safe. With approval from the Bahamian authorities, Pirates Revenge Ltd has resumed operations of its cruise vessel. We would like to thank the crew for their continued professionalism and for expertly performing their duties during the incident.”

“Our deepest condolences to the Robbins family as they go through this difficult time,” Mr Chia added.

(VIDEO) Louisiana Teen Reportedly Jumps Off Bahamas Cruise Ship On A Dare, Coast Guard Calls Off Search

A shocking new video shows a missing Louisiana teen who allegedly jumped off a boat on a dare while on a high school graduation trip to the Bahamas.

A Lousiana State University (LSU) spokesperson confirmed to WBRZ that 18-year-old Cameron Robbins fell from the Blackbeard’s Revenge sunset cruise at around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. The U.S. Coast Guard  reportedly called off a search for the boy on Friday.

Missing Louisiana Teen Cameron Robbins Jumped From Boat On Dare, New Video Shows

Robbins had been celebrating with fellow University High Lab School students at the time of the incident.

Authorities with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) and US Coast Guard launched a widespread, two-day search operation. Helicopters and surveillance aircraft ultimately failed to locate the missing teen.

The search was officially suspended on Friday.

Meanwhile, a haunting new video emerged Monday, appearing to show the chaotic scene on the boat immediately following Robbins’ jumping ship.

Video obtained by WBRZ shows Robbins swimming in the ocean without a life jacket on, dressed only in swim trunks. Fellow onlookers yelled in response.

“This kid f*****g jumped off!” one person can be heard shouting. “Oh, my f*****g god. Oh, shut the f**k  up. Oh, bye…bye… Oh … s**t!” another says.

Others yell out: “Grab the buoy.. grab the buoy.”

According to witnesses, the video shows Robbins drifting in the other direction away from the body before disappearing entirely into the vast ocean waters.

U.S. Coast Guard, Royal Bahamas Defence Force End Rescue Mission Friday After Two-Day Search

The cruise ship initially searched for several hours for the missing student without any success. That’s when the Coast Guard and Royal Bahamas Defence Force launched their similarly failed search-and-rescue mission.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force is investigating claims that Robbins jumped from the ship on a dare.

Robbins fell from the boat near Athol Island, northeast of Nassau, the US Coast Guard said.

The teens’ family flew out to the Bahamas on Thursday, according to WAFB .

They said they were returning to Raton Rouge when the search was called off.

“We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us,” the statement read , according to USA Today .

Additionally, the family thanked the public for extending them “privacy” during their time to remember their son and “mourn his loss.”

Family, School Staffers Remember Robbins As Star Athlete, “Fierce Competitor”

Meanwhile, friends and former teachers honored Robbins during a prayer circle at the school last week.

Justin Morgan, the teens’ high school baseball coach, told CNN Robbins was a “fierce competitor.” The teen had played third baseman and pitcher, Morgan added.

Robbins had attended the school for 13 years, according to Kevin George, the director of LSU’s College of Human Sciences and Education.

“He’s an athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair. Just one of the kids you’re so proud of when they cross the stage,” George told CNN.

This is the harrowing moment a teenager baseball star jumps off a Bahamas cruise ship "as a dare" - in a video shared just days after the US Coast Guard called off the search.

Haunting video shows Cameron Robbins, 18, from Louisiana, US, jumping overboard without a life jacket as his fellow classmates urge him on, according to eyewitnesses.

The teenager, who had just graduated days ago from the University Laboratory School in Baton Rogue, was seen in just his swimming trunks before suddenly disappearing.

Passengers onboard were stunned Cameron jumped off as one person can be heard saying "This kid f****** jumped off!"

Another said, "Oh my f****** god. Oh, shut the f*** up. Oh, bye...bye... Oh ... s***!"

Concerns quickly grew for the teenager as one person shouted "Grab the buoy.. grab the buoy."

Cameron, who was just a few feet away from the cruise, started drifting in the opposite direction away from the buoy before disappearing into darkness, according to eyewitnesses.

The US Coast Guard were dispatched to look for the missing teenager on Wednesday but late on Friday the search was officially called off.

Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas, revealed multiple agency's had been deployed to look for Cameron.

He said: "U.S. Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to an agency assistance request from our partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

"'Our Coast Guard command centre and aircrews based in Miami supported RBDF search and rescue efforts since the initial report Wednesday evening, and continued through Friday evening.

'We were informed by the RBDF this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments, and were not requesting further Coast Guard assistance after notifying the Robbins family.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins' family and friends."

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the teenager's family who are going through an "unimaginable situation."

The fundraiser said: "Cameron's mother, Shari is an indescribably amazing teacher and her kindness and devotion has helped countless children throughout her career.

"Please donate as you can and share this fundraiser to support her and her family through this unimaginable situation.

"Devastated family continued to pray and hope for Cameron's return: 'Please continue to pray for Cameron, Cassie, Cole, Shari and Will. My heart is so heavy."

Cameron's baseball coach paid tribute to the teenager and called him a "fierce competitor."

Justin Morgan said: "Cameron is a kid who is truly loved by his teammates, teachers, and fellow classmates.

"He is a fierce competitor on the baseball field. He is a hard worker both on and off of the playing field.

"Our school community is struggling right now but hoping for the very best.

"Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with the Robbins family during this difficult time."

University Lab School Director Kevin George said Cameron attended the school for all thirteen years of his education.

In a statement he said: "'Extra counsellors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news.

"Our thoughts are with the Robbins family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts as well."

People spot haunting image after missing teen jumps off cruise ship into shark-infested waters

Cameron robbins jumped off a cruise ship off the bahamas into 'shark-infested waters'..

Anish Vij

People think they've spotted a haunting image in a video which shows teenager Cameron Robbins jump off a cruise ship into 'shark-infested waters'.

The 18-year-old from Louisiana - who was celebrating his high school graduation on a sunset cruise on 24 May - jumped overboard for a dare while on a cruise in the Bahamas.

According to a new video, which shows Robbins swimming in the dark sea, viewers think they've spotted a horrific outcome.

Watch below:

Robbins recently graduated from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge on Sunday and was on a trip to the Bahamas with fellow students from several local high schools .

The group of friends were staying at Atlantis Paradise Island resort in Nassau.

Only a few hours after their arrival, Robbins and his friends attended a sunset party cruise.

At around 9.40pm, the 18-year-old was said to have jumped off the boat and into the ocean near Athol Island.

Robbins was last seen in dark waters before completely vanishing from view.

Cameron Robbins recently graduated from high school.

After just a few days, the large scale search was called off on 27 May.

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, with the assistance of the US Coast Guard Southeast, searched for Robbins with no success.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins’ family and friends,” they tweeted , explaining they were suspending the search.

Royal Bahamas Defense Force (RBDF) Commodore, Raymond King, has since provided an update, confirming that the area Robbins went to swim in 'is really shark infested'.

He said: "The probability of survival decreases significantly particularly if a person did not have on a life vest and particularly if a person is perceived to be intoxicated.

"I can tell you that area where an individual reportedly jumped over, it's an area that is really shark infested as well.

"It is so unfortunate but I don't want the family to lose hope."

And now, in new footage of the incident, viewers think they spotted a shark in the video.

One person commented: "The video doesn't lie, he was attacked by a shark and taken under."

Another added: "You can see the shark to the left of the video' and another was adamant they 'saw the fin' in the short video."

Viewers think image was that of a 'shark'.

Pictures on Robbins’ social media show he was a keen baseball player and has been described as a ‘fierce competitor’ by his coach.

The school’s baseball coach Justin Morgan said: “Cameron is a kid who is truly loved by his teammates, teachers, and fellow classmates.

“He is a fierce competitor on the baseball field. He is a hard worker both on and off of the playing field.

“Our school community is struggling right now but hoping for the very best.

“Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with the Robbins family during this difficult time.”

When talented American baseball player Cameron Robbins jumped off a sunset cruise ship in the Bahamas, it was in response to a late night dare that on the face of it appeared harmless.

But fast forward seven days and it has become clear that the 18-year-old star athlete's split second decision had deadly consequences as he slipped into the dark waters never to be seen again.

Cameron, who had innocently been celebrating his high school graduation on the idyllic Caribbean island, has not been found  since a fun-filled pirate-themed boat trip descended into chaos on May 24. His devastated parents, who travelled to the Bahamas but will now return to the family's home in Louisiana , say they will 'mourn his loss'.

The teenager, described as a 'fierce competitor' by his baseball coach, was last seen in a haunting 20-second video, splashing around in the pitch black waters just a few feet away from the boat after jumping overboard without a life jacket on, wearing only his trunks. Seconds later, he vanishes.

It is not clear what caused Cameron to drift away into the distance instead of moving towards the life ring thrown at him or trying to swim back towards the boat.

The US and beyond has been left desperate for answers over how this light-hearted dare so quickly turned into a mysterious tragedy.

In an Instagram photo taken just days before his disappearance, Cameron was seen smiling at his graduation - one of the biggest days of celebrations before  adulthood in America.

He and his classmates  had only arrived on the island hours before the boat excursion. They had been staying at the Atlantis Paradise Island in Nassau, the Bahama's capital, according to one parent. The ship was near Athol Island, an uninhabited island located northeast of Nassau .

Cameron had been on board with several other friends  who were on the trip celebrating their recent graduation  from a high school in Louisiana's capital Baton Rouge.

They were on top of the world, having just graduated from the University Laboratory School where Cameron was recognised as a star athlete by his friends and teachers.

His U-High baseball coach Justin Morgan said of him: 'Cameron is a kid who is truly loved by his teammates, teachers, and fellow classmates.

'He is a fierce competitor on the baseball field. He is a hard worker both on and off of the playing field.

'Our school community is struggling right now but hoping for the very best.

'Our thoughts and prayers have been and will remain with the Robbins family during this difficult time.'

The young students were celebrating on the Blackbeard's Revenge sunset cruise ship which had been designed to look like a pirate ship.

Witnesses to the tragic chain of events have claimed that he was acting on a dare when he jumped overboard at 11.30pm - never to be seen again.

Today, speculation grew that the teenager was killed by a shark  after a shadowy image was captured metres away from him, potentially triggering him to swim away. The Bahamas is home to highly aggressive sharks including tiger and bull sharks.

Footage shows Cameron swimming in the water as a life ring is thrown out to him and classmates tell him to grab on. But the teenager seems to be fixated on a shadowy shape which appears in the water and immediately begins swimming away.

On Sunday, fears for Cameron's life grew after his family were dealt a heart-breaking blow that the Coast Guard had called off the 325-square-mile search for the teenager.

For now, that short yet devastating video is what people are confronted with when they scour the internet to see if Cameron has been located.

What started out as an innocent dare with screams of 'This kid f****** jumped off!' soon turned into 'Grab the buoy.. grab the buoy'.

The last statement by the devastated family, given to local media, reads: 'The Bahamas government has called off the rescue for Cameron and we are returning to Baton Rouge.

'We want to thank the Bahamas government, the US Coast Guard, the United Cajun Navy, and Congressman Garrett Graves for everything they have done for us.

'In this time of grief we thank our family, friends and well wishers for granting us the privacy we need to properly remember our son and mourn his loss.'

In calling off a search for the young man on Sunday, Lt. Cmdr. Matthew Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer to the Bahamas had said: 'U.S. Coast Guard District Seven deployed multiple search and rescue assets in response to an agency assistance request from our partners in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

'Our Coast Guard command centre and aircrews based in Miami supported RBDF search and rescue efforts since the initial report Wednesday evening, and continued through Friday evening.

'We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins' family and friends.'

After the search for the 18-year-old was called off, heart-breaking footage of students and parents praying in a circle outside the Louisiana school emerged.

In the aftermath of his disappearance, a GoFundMe was set up to support his family.  In it, they described his mother as a kind and devoted teacher - who is going through an 'unimaginable situation.'

The fundraiser read: 'Cameron's mother, Shari is an indescribably amazing teacher and her kindness and devotion has helped countless children throughout her career.

'Please donate as you can and share this fundraiser to support her and her family through this unimaginable situation.'

University Lab School Director Kevin George said Cameron attended the school for all thirteen years of his education. They previously said they were 'praying' for his safe return.

In a hopeful statement in the days after Cameron disappeared, Mr George said: 'The University Lab School Community is praying for the best possible outcome of this situation.

'In times like these, we must come together and support each other. Words fall short of expressing the worry our entire school community is feeling.

'Extra counsellors will be available on campus to speak with students and faculty who are struggling to process this news.

'Our thoughts are with the Robbins family, and we ask that you keep them in your thoughts as well.'

A cruise passenger on the Royal Caribbean “Icon of the Seas” cruise jumped overboard, prompting a search and rescue mission where the passenger ultimately was found dead.

The passenger jumped from the 1,200-foot-long ship shortly after it left Miami, Florida, for Honduras Sunday morning, according to a statement from the Coast Guard obtained by The New York Post.

Once people noticed the emergency, the ship immediately halted its operations and the 2,350-person crew conducted a search-and-rescue mission. The ship stayed put for two hours, according to Cruise Hive.

The passenger was brought back onboard in critical condition. He eventually died of his injuries.

It is unclear what caused the man to jump, although his identity is being kept secret for the privacy of the deceased individual and his family.

The “Icon of the Seas,” which is the world’s largest cruise ship, took its maiden voyage in January 2024.

Passenger dies after jumping off world’s largest cruise ship as it sets sail from Florida

A passenger has died after jumping overboard from the world ’s largest cruise ship after it set sail from Florida .

The male passenger, who has not been identified, reportedly jumped, according to the New York Post , from the 20-deck high Icon of the Seas after it left a Florida port on Sunday to embark on a seven-day cruise around the Caribbean , first stopping in Honduras.

The Coast Guard , who said they did not have much involvement in the incident beyond assisting in the search for the man, told the New York Post that “the cruise ship deployed one of their rescue boats, located the man, and brought him back aboard”.

The man has since been “pronounced deceased,” the Coast Guard added.

The world’s largest cruise experience was approximately 300 miles away from PortMiami, and around 30 to 40 miles north of Santa Lucia, Cuba, at the time of the incident, which occurred in the morning, according to Cruise Hive.

The Royal Caribbean, which operates the Icon of the Seas along with other groundbreakingly large cruise ships, told the outlet in a statement that their ship’s crew immediately notified the Coast Guard in the US and “launched a search and rescue operation”.

“Our care team is actively providing support and assistance to the guest’s loved ones during this difficult time,” the cruise company added. “For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share.“

The ship, which holds way over 5,000 guests and only made its maiden voyage in January of this year, had embarked on the cruise on Saturday, but after the incident on Sunday, the cruise halted and stayed put for around two hours while the search continued, the outlet said.

According to CruiseMapper tracking data, the Icon of the Seas is due to reach the port of Costa Maya, Mexico by noon on Tuesday.

The incident comes over a month after a similar tragedy on another Royal Caribbean cruise ship, the Liberty of the Seas when a 20-year-old man identified as Levion Parker is thought to have gone overboard during a trip around the Bahamas.

The cruise line immediately launched a search and rescue mission along with the US Coast Guard, but it was suspended after five days due to not being able to find him.

However, the cruise company has also witnessed some successful rescues in recent months, such as being able to recover a passenger who fell overboard from the Symphony of the Seas back in October.

The cruise, which had just left Barcelona at the time, said the guest was successfully brought back on board after falling shortly after it left the port.
