Mumbai

Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex is a clean and well-maintained sea-facing attraction in South Mumbai. Located in one of the sophisticated localities, this Napeansea Road park overlooks many expensive apartments on the street. Every nook and corner of this 20 acres land has now become a powerhouse to keep the heart of Mumbai pumping. For more than 3 decades, this wonderland has served as a recreational site, and sports and fitness complex. Visit here early in the morning to witness the magic of this refuge for the inhabitants of Mumbai.  Also, Mumbaikars do not forget to visit here in the early monsoons to sit on its sea-facing end and seek a delight with the sound of soothing waves. Once, this piece of land was merely a rocky patch of the coastal area of Malabar. What you see today is a gorgeous lush green garden lined up with a total of 600+ coconut trees. With a perfect and well-maintained ambiance, this park is a boon for early morning yoga, jogging, walking, aerobics, and so on. The credit, of course, goes to its active group – the Malabar Hill Citizen Forum, who looks after it as its own child. You can connect with their authorities to be an annual member of the plethora of recreational sports activities that they organize. In addition to pumping the adrenaline of youth with its recreational touch, Priyadarshini Park of Mumbai also serves as an ideal family outing location and a lover’s point. If you are fortunate enough, you may even witness little squirrels accompanying you here for some pleasing views.

Taraporewala Aquarium

This sightseeing place in Mumbai is one of the largest aquariums in the city of Mumbai. Situated in Marine Drive, this aquarium was founded by D. B. Taraporewala, a Parsi philanthropist, in the year 1951. The aquarium has a twelve feet long three-sixty degrees glass tunnel that holds interesting marine life. There are several species of fish here, such as damselfish, butterfly fish, tiger fish, angelfish, moss, sea urchins, sea cucumber, marine eels, etc

Babulnath

Whenever you are visiting Mumbai, Babulnath Shiva temple is a must-visit for inner peace and tranquillity. It is one of the oldest temples in Mumbai, which increases its importance in the eyes of the loyal devotees. Its walls are specially carved with limestone that depicts the Hindu mythology, which travellers find it exciting at the first look. At this temple, the beautiful marble flooring is specially brought down from Rajasthan. Thus, each step you take inside this temple feels royal and enchanting along with the daily devotees you can meet and greet, dressed in Indian attires. So, every moment spent in this temple is blissful with internal peace and devotion. Moreover, you can witness devotees from different corners of the world who love to pay their tribute to Lord Shiva and other idols.Once you enter the holy temple revered by so many Hindus and locals, you can find sculptures and idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, and Nandi with Kashyap. We would also advise you to buy a basket outside the temple steps before entering. This basket will bring joy, happiness and fulfil all your wishes once you pay your heartfelt worship to Shiva and other lords like Durga Mata and Goddess Parvati at the centre of this temple.  If you have any doubts regarding the same, you can always ask devotees around you or the priest to know how to get the prayer done with the basket that you buy.On the other hand, idols of Goddess Parvati and Durga Mata are respectfully placed in the centre of this temple. What’s even more special about this temple is that around 4 times a day, prayers for Lord Shiva are recited here. This temple gets approximately a lakh devotees for Darshan during the Mahashivratri. The whole scenario is a sight to behold and capture in your hearts to narrate stories about back home.

OT Travel Itinerary: All You Need To Know About The Stok Kangri Trek

All About The Stok Kangri Trek

A thrilling and difficult trek in India, the Stok Kangri Trek gives hikers the opportunity to reach the summit of a peak rising to 20,128 feet in the Ladakh region. This trek, which offers fantastic views of the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges, is essential for experienced hikers. The journey begins with acclimatisation walks around Leh, where you can visit local markets and monasteries , which are the first part of the journey. Beautiful scenery greets you as you travel from Stok Village to Chang Ma and Mankorma, progressively bringing you to base camp. The trek's high point is the midnight climb to the summit of Stok Kangri, which rewards you with expansive views of the magnificent Himalayas .

Hiking on the trails of Stok Kangri peak

The Stok Kangri Trek is most enjoyable from mid-June to mid-September when the trails are accessible, and the weather is generally stable. The hike is challenging, though, with high elevations, sharp ascents, and the possibility of inclement weather. Prior experience trekking at high altitudes and physical fitness are prerequisites. In order to avoid altitude sickness and guarantee a successful summit, acclimatisation is essential. You will spend the entire trek sleeping beneath the stars, connecting with other hikers, and taking in the tranquil beauty of the Himalayas.

Day 1: Arrival in Leh

Main Market, Leh

At 11,560 feet above sea level, you arrive in Leh, the starting point of your adventure. It is essential that you spend this first day acclimatising your body to the high altitude. Immerse yourself in Leh's rich culture and history by spending the day touring the local marketplaces and monasteries. This day of relaxation and moderate exercise gets you ready for the difficult journey that lies ahead.

Day 2: Leh to Stok Village to Chang Ma

On the second day, you will travel to Stok Village, which is located at an altitude of 11,800 feet. From there, you will hike to Chang Ma, situated at 13,087 feet. This hike will help you acclimate to the higher altitude while gradually introducing you to the terrain and offering beautiful views. You will spend the night in tents in Chang Ma, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the mountains.

Day 3: Chang Ma to Mankorma

On the third day, you will trek to the 14,200-foot Mankorma. This leg of the journey offers stunning views and diverse landscapes that will leave you in awe. The trek becomes more challenging as you ascend, but the breathtaking scenery makes it all worthwhile. You will relish the tranquillity of the secluded area while camping in tents at Mankorma for the night.

Day 4: Mankorma to Base Camp

Camping at Stok Kangri Base Camp

On the fourth day, you will hike to the 16,300-foot Stok Kangri Base Camp. This day is crucial for resting and acclimatising before the challenging climb. You'll have the opportunity to bond with other hikers and share stories under the starry sky at the camp. Tents will be provided for a cosy yet rustic overnight experience.

Day 5: Acclimatisation Day at Base Camp

Night view of Stok Kangri Base Camp

On the fifth day, you will take short walks around the base camp to aid in further acclimatisation. This preparation is crucial for your body to adjust to the high altitude and ensure a successful summit attempt. While preparing physically and mentally for the climb, spend the day relaxing and exploring the area. Once again, trekkers will spend the night in tents, which will help foster camaraderie.

Day 6: Base Camp to Stok Kangri Summit and Back

Stok Range of the Zanskar mountains

On the sixth day, the attempt to reach the summit starts at midnight. Starting early is necessary to reach the summit, which is located at 20,128 feet, by early morning. The climb is challenging but rewarding, offering unparalleled views at the summit. After enjoying the magnificent vista, you will return to base camp. The descent is equally strenuous, and you will spend the night in tents at base camp, reflecting on the impressive accomplishment.

Day 7: Base Camp to Stok Village to Leh

On the seventh day, you will hike through stunning scenery all the way back to Stok Village. After leaving Stok Village, you'll take a car back to Leh. You can celebrate completing the trek there and relax in a hotel. This last day offers an opportunity to unwind, reflect on the trip, and savour the sense of achievement and the memories made along the way.

A Day in Leh

A view of the stunning Thiksey Monastery

If you have a day to spare in Leh, you might want to check out the place as it is one of the most sought-after destinations in India. Located in India's Ladakh region, it offers a unique combination of mouthwatering food, vibrant culture, and breathtaking scenery. Explore the nine-story Leh Palace, which offers sweeping views of the town and the surrounding mountains, to start your adventure. A serene spot to witness the Himalayan sunset is the nearby Shanti Stupa, a white-domed Buddhist monument. One of the world's highest motorable roads, the Khardung La Pass, attracts thrill-seekers with its breathtaking views and thrilling drive.

Don't miss a visit to the stunning Thiksey Monastery, perched on a hilltop and home to an enormous statue of Maitreya Buddha as well as elaborate murals. Another unusual sight is the Magnetic Hill, where cars appear to defy gravity.

In terms of cuisine, Leh is a treat for people who like filling meals. Savour traditional Ladakhi cuisine such as steamed dumplings filled with meat or vegetables called momos and Thukpa, a flavourful noodle soup. Taste Skyu, a traditional root vegetable-based Ladakhi pasta dish. Try Butter Tea, a popular beverage in the area made with tea leaves, butter, and salt, for a cool beverage. Leh is a gourmet haven for tourists since its cafés serve a wide range of foreign cuisines.

Things to Remember

Preparation is essential to ensure enjoyment and safety when trekking. Investigate the trail and learn about its potential hazards, weather, and degree of difficulty. It's important to pack necessities like a first aid kit, sturdy shoes, clothes for the weather, and enough food and water. Even if you are familiar with the trail, always carry a map, compass, or GPS device. It's a good idea to let someone know about your intended trekking route and anticipated return time. When trekking at higher altitudes, be aware of altitude-related problems and always practice Leave No Trace to protect the environment.

Getting There

Air : Flying is the easiest and fastest way to get to Ladakh. The sole airport, known as the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, is situated in the town of Leh. Regular flights are available to Leh from a number of domestic airlines, departing from major national cities such as Jammu, Srinagar, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Kolkata, and others.

Rail : Travelling to Leh by train is not feasible as the nearest station is located 700 km away in the town called Tawi. Stations like Chandigarh and Pathankot are the other closest options, but they are even further away.

Road : There are two road routes to Leh Ladakh: the first is a 494 km journey through Manali in Himachal Pradesh, and the second is a 434 km route through Srinagar. Leh is accessible via taxi, jeep, or JKSRTC bus, with the bus running frequently between Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh. A bike trip from Delhi, Chandigarh, Manali, or Srinagar is also an option. It's only possible to travel by road to Ladakh from May through September due to heavy snowfall in the winter.
