Newmarket Holidays Launches Solo Traveller Collection

Newmarket Holidays has launched the Solo Traveller Collection, a new range of escorted group tours for guests holidaying on their own.

The collection features 25 short and long haul tours, with five that have been curated exclusively for solo travellers.

New solo-only options cover a variety of Newmarket Holidays’ most popular destinations including the Scottish Highlands (from £825pp), the culinary and cultural highlights of Western Sicily (from £1,249pp), the heavenly Croatian islands of Korčula and Hvar (from £1,889pp), a Kenyan safari and beach break (from £3,479pp), and an exotic adventure through India's Golden Triangle (from £2,875pp).

What’s more, a 15% saving can be made on these prices for the 5 exclusively solo tours for any bookings made before 9th June 2023, by using the code SOLO.

In addition, 20 of the operator’s existing UK, Europe and worldwide itineraries have been adapted to offer no single supplements on selected departure dates throughout the year. Options include a nature-centred getaway to the Norwegian fjords, a wine-lover’s favourite visiting the vineyards fringing the Douro River of Portugal, or an exciting exploration to discover Inca treasures in Peru’s Sacred Valley.

They’ve been asking for more of the same for the solo traveller, and this is the catalyst. The new launch is a response to Newmarket Holidays’ own search and booking data that shows a big rise in single person bookings in the 50 plus age group, alongside evidence from independent reports and Google search data that shows 'solo travel' is a growing trend.

We found the travelling distance between Bazzoni hotel and Hotel Griso was rather tiring ( 1.5hrs ) and this was not revealed by the New Market Holidays when we booked our tour. Because of the distance between three hotels every day we had wasted our days by 3hrs in travelling.

Good service

Good service, but when we booked the holiday we asked the agent if the price is likely to reduce, the answer was no, then next day you had reduced the price as part of your monthly deals. However you did then reduce our price so we didn’t lose out. If the agent had said your do have some monthly reductions then that was all that was required.

Lake Como Holiday

Our holiday to Lake Como was made extra special by our tour manager Eleanora Cipollina with her knowledge of all the areas we visited, she was always charming and friendly. We stayed at Hotel Bazzoni which had beautiful views over the Lake and near to a Ferry Terminal for trips to various places around Lake Como. The hotel does need some updating especially the pool area. This is our 4th tour with Newmarket.

Classical Spain May 2024

We had the best craic with Jude, our tour manager. This was our first experience of a group tour and didn't really know what to expect but from start to finish, Jude made the experience totally memorable. The base hotel at Antequera was excellent with friendly staff, great facilities and good food and in a lovely location. The tour itinerary is quite full on but gives just enough of a taste of Seville, Cordoba and Granada to want to revisit in the future. The whole experience was made extra special by Jude with her charm, constant wit and in depth information. Nothing was to much trouble. Thank you Newmarket and special thanks to Jude the magnificent!

Itinerary of holiday Lake Como was spot on, 3 organised excursions included which were where we wanted to go, other optional tours we chose not to do preferring time to ourselves, hotel we chose Bazzoni in perfect position to tour lake. Our italian tour manager Ellie was amazing such a nice girl & so patient & helpful. Only criticism was evening dining in hotel, although waiter service it always rushed & sometimes food wasnt over hot. Our breakfast was great lots of choice

Five stars are not enough! Just returned from an unforgettable holiday in Puglia, - great hotel, excellent itinerary and the most caring and professional tour guide ever ! Super Austrian Alps tour…

Our Salzburg and the Austrian Alps tour was superb. We loved our comfortable accommodation at Haus Andreas and the warm welcome we received - also the food was delicious thanks to chef Gabor. Tony was an experienced and efficient guide, who ensured that all our days out ran like clockwork and was keen that we should enjoy each outing. The Hintertux glacier day was especially memorable and well worth the extra spend. And I must mention our wonderful driver Christophe, who was with us all week.

Andalucia with Jude

Andalucia, Classical Spain. It is an exhausting schedule with the unusual high temperatures we experienced, but this is a very good tour. Our Tour Manager Jude....well what can I say? Informative, funny, helpful, goes above and beyond for all her flock and kept us entertained on the coach as we travelled. She is really top notch and knows so much about the places we visited.

Classical Spain May 2024 What a fabulous tour I have been lucky to experience and was extremely organised by Jude, our Tour Manager, who certainly made our holiday extra special. She provided us with information, insights, laughter and took care of every single one of us and helped us immensely on our return home, when others would not have even cared. The tour itinerary is full on and in the heat can be tiring. Our hotel, Antequera Hills, was lovely, clean and managed well by friendly staff. We knew it was on the outskirts of the town but was walkable and only €6 in a taxi but we wanted the pool especially on our leisure days. Dont think about this holiday, book it, you will not regret it.

Our holiday was made by our tour manager Jude Mahon. Cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful and so organised. The tour was great, giving us a taste of the historic cities of Andalusia. Perhaps the company could consider rescheduling the day in Seville away from the first trip of the week so there’s more time to recover from the journey( and the delays in passport control at Malaga airport).

Great service from Bree

Bree was able to assist me in online check in for my holiday and sent both boarding passes to me after I was unable to check in. Our experience of visiting Lake Como and surrounding areas was enhanced by our tour guide Eleonora Cipollina. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was matched by her "nothing was too much trouble" attitude, pleasantness and sense of humour. Only disappointment was lack of tea/coffee making facilities in room and limited evening meal menu.

Snapshot of Western Sicily when I first enquired about this I thought this is the perfect holiday for me - a beautiful island and something interesting organised for every day. I am now halfway through this holiday and although I have enjoyed the trips so far and there are more to come I have to express my extreme disappointment in the accommodation. This bears no resemblance to the lovely picture I saw on the information I was sent. I can only equate it to a British holiday camp at its worst. So depressing!!!! I was also expecting a three course dinner served at my table but it’s just a queue up with them all buffet and it’s not that wonderful anyway.

Easy booking process.

Very easy to see what holiday includes and found a discount code online so went ahead and booked it. But be aware that next day I was sent a discount code for same amount from Newmarket Holidays themselves. It would have been galling if I had booked without the code so be patient if necessary if you haven’t found one elsewhere (providing you’ve registered with Newmarket of course and given your email address)

Solo holidays are among ‘top selling tours’ says Newmarket Holidays as it introduces new Solo Traveller Collection.

The escorted tours specialist has seen single bookings grow by more than 10% since the introduction of five exclusive solo tours and the removal of single supplements on 20 classic tours at the beginning of June.   

Due to popular demand, Newmarket Holidays is already planning to expand its Solo Traveller Collection, with new dates and destinations on the horizon. 

Debuting in the operator’s top 10 sellers for 2024 departures is Snapshot of Western Sicily, an eight-day escorted tour curated exclusively for solo travellers.  It is already one of the operator’s biggest selling holidays across all tour types, and the best-selling group holiday to Sicily. 

Other solo tours outperforming expectations are Highlights of the Scottish Highlands and Kenyan Wildlife & Coastal Explorer.

Andalucia with Jude

Andalucia, Classical Spain. It is an exhausting schedule with the unusual high temperatures we experienced, but this is a very good tour. Our Tour Manager Jude....well what can I say? Informative, funny, helpful, goes above and beyond for all her flock and kept us entertained on the coach as we travelled. She is really top notch and knows so much about the places we visited.

Classical Spain May 2024 What a fabulous tour I have been lucky to experience and was extremely organised by Jude, our Tour Manager, who certainly made our holiday extra special. She provided us with information, insights, laughter and took care of every single one of us and helped us immensely on our return home, when others would not have even cared. The tour itinerary is full on and in the heat can be tiring. Our hotel, Antequera Hills, was lovely, clean and managed well by friendly staff. We knew it was on the outskirts of the town but was walkable and only €6 in a taxi but we wanted the pool especially on our leisure days. Dont think about this holiday, book it, you will not regret it.

Our holiday was made by our tour manager Jude Mahon. Cheerful, knowledgeable, helpful and so organised. The tour was great, giving us a taste of the historic cities of Andalusia. Perhaps the company could consider rescheduling the day in Seville away from the first trip of the week so there’s more time to recover from the journey( and the delays in passport control at Malaga airport).

Our experience of visiting Lake Como and surrounding areas was enhanced by our tour guide Eleonora Cipollina. Her knowledge and enthusiasm was matched by her "nothing was too much trouble" attitude, pleasantness and sense of humour. Only disappointment was lack of tea/coffee making facilities in room and limited evening meal menu.

Snapshot of Western Sicily when I first enquired about this I thought this is the perfect holiday for me - a beautiful island and something interesting organised for every day. I am now halfway through this holiday and although I have enjoyed the trips so far and there are more to come I have to express my extreme disappointment in the accommodation. This bears no resemblance to the lovely picture I saw on the information I was sent. I can only equate it to a British holiday camp at its worst. So depressing!!!! I was also expecting a three course dinner served at my table but it’s just a queue up with them all buffet and it’s not that wonderful anyway.

Easy booking process.

Very easy to see what holiday includes and found a discount code online so went ahead and booked it. But be aware that next day I was sent a discount code for same amount from Newmarket Holidays themselves. It would have been galling if I had booked without the code so be patient if necessary if you haven’t found one elsewhere (providing you’ve registered with Newmarket of course and given your email address)

Splaine: Juneteenth is about our future

In a time of such division in America, Juneteenth is about our future as much as it is a commemoration to honor our past.  And at a time of political and philosophical polarization, Juneteenth gives us a moment to reflect on the realization that while racism and hatred may never end, at least we can make the effort every day to minimize it.  

Juneteenth this year comes on Wednesday, June 19. Since it became a federal holiday via the Juneteenth National Independence Act, it has grown in importance locally, statewide, and nationally.  Portsmouth's website lists some of the local events scheduled for that day, and activities in preparation. President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect Jan. 1, 1863, ending slavery throughout the Confederacy.  However, enforcement of that freedom for slaves was dependent on advancing Union troops throughout the southern states. Texas, being the most remote state of the Confederacy, was reached by Union forces two months after the rebellion ended, and on June 19, 1865, slavery in that state was officially ended. The effect of the Emancipation Proclamation was complete in the re-united United States of America.  

As we have painfully learned, however, no proclamation would end racism and hate, nor discrimination. No federal holiday, or a president's signature, can do so. No volumes of books, editorials, columns, speeches, or even prayers will end attitudes that continue to divide us.

The antisemitism that has spread too wide in recent months is indicative of both ignorance about the past as well as a prejudice that is all too inherent in our nation and our world. Too often we forget that the most valuable assets on our planet are human beings.  

No, we're not more important than our planet itself, or the billions of other life forms on it. But human beings, and human beings alone, have the ability to determine how we can save Earth from destruction, and protect all the amazing diversity of life forms that Mother Nature and God have entrusted to us. 

And human beings alone have the ability, and the intelligence, to determine how we can better treat one another.  How to learn to live together, respect each other, and love one another.   

Each of us has only a short time on this planet. There is nothing more important than the way we treat one another.  If we cheered for our mutual success and happiness and treated each other as equals worthy of sharing the beauty of our world and our abundances, we could end not only hate but also defeat poverty and famine which affects more than half of the population on our continents, including our own. The real problem is figuring out how to get it right.  

But the shortage of precious time makes it difficult to get it right. Even those who live to be 80 years old only have 4,160 weeks to get it right. That may seem like a long time, or not much at all, depending on one's perspective, but it surely does mean that we don't have too much time to waste before an entire new world of people replaces us and have to learn how to hate, or how to love.  

None of us is prejudiced or racist the day we are born. Such attitudes are learned, and are taught to us by others.  Then we teach our young about the attitudes we have acquired, good and bad. Too many of us have forgotten about the innocence of youth.  

Only we, as human beings, can do that. America and our whole world have troubling histories. But in the flow of time, we're still a young planet. Let's use our time to get it right. 

Juneteenth status in New Hampshire:  Juneteenth has been an official federal holiday, signed by President Joe Biden in 2021. In 2019, Gov. Chris Sununu signed legislation that recognized Juneteenth as a state observance.    

This year, state Sen. Rebecca Perkins Kwoka of Portsmouth was joined by Sens. Debra Altschiller, Stratham; Donna Soucy and Lou D'Allesandro, Manchester; David Watters, Dover; and Rep. Charlotte DiLorenzo, Newmarket, in sponsoring legislation to formally adopt the federal holiday. Their bill passed in the Senate, but was defeated in the House on May 9th, 194-154. Let's get that right real soon.
