Mr. Bungle to play first headline UK shows in 24 years ahead of Download Festival

A rare chance to see them on our shores

The gloriously madcap Mr. Bungle will play two headline shows ahead of their appearance at Download Festival this summer.

Mr. Bungle said: “We saw one person online say “Come to the UK!”, so we talked it over and decided to book a show at a little spot called Download Festival. And to get warmed up for that, we’re heading to London and Manchester, joined by our label mates Spotlights.

Mr. Bungle features long-standing members Mike Patton of Faith No More fame (vocals), guitarist/keyboardist Trey Spruance and bassist Trevor Dunn alongside new-ish recruits, Anthrax ’s Scott Ian on rhythm guitar and Slayer legend Dave Lombardo on drums.

The current incarnation of the band released the album ‘The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny Demo’ in October 2020.

Mr. Bungle’s tour dates:

Faith No More announce 2020 UK tour dates

Mike Patton & co. will be returning to Old Blighty in June next year for four Faith No More UK shows

Faith No More press shot

After Faith No More 's social media channels and website reactivated with a logo and countdown clock and the band announced three European festival dates last week , it was only a matter of time before the band confirmed a return to the UK, and today they revealed just that – a string of four shows across Britain in June 2020.

The tour will kick off on June 10 at O2 Apollo Manchester before they head to Glasgow on June 11, Birmingham on June 15 and wrap up on June 16 at London’s O2 Academy Brixton before heading to France for Hellfest.

It's been five years since the 90s alt-rockers hit European shores and their return has come as a surprise to many, after frontman Mike Patton reported in 2017 that Faith No More were taking an “extended break”.

FNM comment: “Five years, four colonoscopies, two root canals and a handful of prostate exams tell us that it’s time to carpe diem our asses back to Europe asap.”

There’s no further news regarding a follow-up to their 2015 comeback album  Sol Invictus yet – although keyboardist Roddy Bottum told  Chandler Sorrells  late last year that he had been travelling to San Francisco to “make music” with drummer Mike Bordin and bassist Billy Gould.

Check out the full European and UK tour dates below.

Mike Patton is one of the all-time greatest alternative rock singers. Fact. His voice is so damn distinctive and captivating that it has been imitated by countless alt-rock singers, and his lyrics and delivery are so otherworldly that many look upon him as some kind of heavy metal prophet. His is, of course, best known for fronting influential alternative metal band Faith No More. Having seen them recently (at Hyde Park supporting Black Sabbath), I can tell you that when he is FNM mode he is a demonic, cartoonish frontman who prowls around the stage screaming obscenities and making dumb faces. They are without doubt one of the best metal bands I’ve ever seen. But Patton is much more than Faith No More’s singer. Other projects include Mr. Bungle, Fantômas and hectic metal band Tomahawk, the last of which I saw at Dour Festival in Belgium last year. He has also done a range of odd solo projects – one of these was a collaboration with beat-boxing rapper Rahzel, which I had the strange pleasure of seeing one year at Reading Festival. Patton messed around on electronic equipment and looped his own distorted vocals while Rahzel rapped and beat-boxed over to make a progressive fusion of electronica, rock and hip hop that has stuck with me ever since. Mike Patton continues to keep his fans on their toes.

Mike Patton is beyond anything or anyone else in his category of music. I've seen Mr. Bungle twice (I was his biggest fan and called him off his tour bus in Cameron Park, CA for a photo), Tomahawk, and Faith No More on their last tour in '97-98. Best soul, punk, metal, jazz singer that I know. A pioneer for his own multi talented genre. I've been obsessed with him since I was a teen in the 90s and I can't wait until their tour starts up again .

Faith No More cancel all 2022 tour dates

After cancelling their U.S. dates, Faith No More have announced that planned shows in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe have also been scrapped.

Faith No More cancel all 2022 tour dates

After announcing in September that they'd be scrapping their upcoming U.S. tour dates, Faith No More have now announced that all planned shows for 2022 have been cancelled.

Vocalist Mike Patton had previously said that "due to mental health reasons, I cannot continue with the currently scheduled Faith No More and Mr. Bungle dates", with the band supporting his decision to cancel touring plans: "We believe that forging ahead with these dates would have had a profoundly destructive effect on Mike, whose value to us as a brother means more to us than his job as singer," they wrote.

"He can count on our 100 per cent support to do what he needs to do to get things right. Just as we also ask for your support right now."

In a new statement posted on December 10, FNM confirm that it's not just U.S. dates that are affected, but also Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe, too.

"Unfortunately due to our current challenges, we aren’t going to be ready to perform for the upcoming Australian, New Zealand and UK / European tours," they state. "To play at anything less than 100 per cent after so long is not an option for us. We apologise to all of you ticket holders, and are forever grateful to our fans for your support and understanding."

Kerrang! sends our best wishes to Mike and the rest of the band.

MR. BUNGLE announce first East Coast tour in 23 years

mr bungle mike patton live LARSEN PRESS, Eric Larsen

Mike Patton 's avant-metal tricksters Mr. Bungle announced today (April 11th) that they're expanding their 2023 tour to include a run of dates on the East Coast, marking the first time Bungle have taken a spin on that side of North America since 2000. This latest batch of shows, which begins September 5th in Baltimore, will feature support from Battles, the New York group anchored by drummer John Stanier, bandmate of Patton and Mr. Bungle bassist Trevor Dunn in the supergroup Tomahawk.

The current lineup of Mr. Bungle — Patton, Dunn, drummer Dave Lombardo (ex-Slayer), and guitarists Scott Ian (Anthrax) and Trey Spruance — will be hitting major east coast cities like New York, Philadelphia and Boston — as well as a date in Montreal and Toronto — before wrapping up September 15th at The Fillmore in Detroit.

The band already had a West Coast tour on the books (the revived Ipecac Geek Show) alongside the Melvins and post-rockers Spotlights. That run of dates kicks off May 10th at Pomona, California's Fox Theater. You can check out the full list of 2023 Mr. Bungle tour dates below.

Paul McCartney is bringing his Got Back Tour to the UK

Paul McCartney has announced that he will bring his Got Back Tour to the UK this December.

Marking his first UK appearance since headlining Glastonbury in 2022, McCartney says: “I'm excited to be ending my year and 2024 tour dates in the UK. It's always such a special feeling to play shows on our home soil. It's going to be an amazing end to the year. Let's get set to party. I can't wait to see you.”

His first 2024 live dates will see McCartney perform in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Paris and Madrid. The new dates will see McCartney return for his first live performance in Paris in six years - in 2018 he played at La Defense Arena, where he is making his return.
