It was boring. Way to repetitive. Not enough techno, no hyping of the crowd. Seemed like he didn't want to be there. Like he was just there to play a set and leave. The atmosphere was nice, the people meah, the vibe was waaaay off. Will not be seeing this DJ again.

I followed this duo for over 21 years since 1998. From their albums of the Rennaisance years to the Northern Exposures, still are collectors items and as epic as ever. Their influences on the Norther exposure tour of trance to North America can be pinpointed to these year. They each have their certain styles: Digweed always deep and dark, Sasha more synth and vocals. Love their work. I even had photo shots back then from 1999 when I saw them and shook hands with them at the Winter Music Conf in Miami at the time. They played Armin Van Buuren & Tiesto tunes before anyone knew who they are. Markus Schulz were the opening acts for Spundae on the weekends here in SF (1015 Folsom years) when the lineups were all new to the areas. How much fun I had coming out and listening and high five-ing these guys. They're cool & nice fellas as well. Oh those were the days.
In a world where DJs appear to be getting younger and younger, sometimes you have to look towards the musicians who have been involved in the dance world for the longest for some real clarity and overall skill in a live show. UK DJ and producer John Digweed has worked through the garage and trance explosions of the 90s and has seen the whole game change numerous times yet he still adapted his live show to keep up with the demands of the crowds.
Often preferring to release live albums as opposed to studio is a clear clue that John is confident in his abilities and really knows how to keep a crowd energised and moving for a whole 90 minute show which is no easy task. He is consistently booked at some of the world's most revered dance events for his expert abilities to blend the classic dance stylings of the 90s with newer material to really get the crowds onside. There is an undoubted party atmosphere and when it comes to a last performance of 'Satellite' the roar of the crowd seems to indicate they do not want it to end.

John Digweed Announces Highly-Anticipated 10-Stop North America Tour
World-renowned multi-genre maestro John Digweed will, at last, make his long-awaited return to North America this fall with a 10-stop U.S. tour. The upcoming fall dates will feature a smattering of elusive sets as Digweed teams up again with Sasha, as well as a multitude of solo performances from the revered Bedrock label-head himself .
The first date in the month of October sees Digweed gracing the decks of Tempe, Arizona’s highly-revered venue Sunbar with a much-anticipated solo set, a follow-up to October 2019’s acclaimed performance at Tempe’s Shady Park. Continuing the streak, he is set to play the following night at a city and venue yet to be announced.
The established creative force will be soundtracking the night for eager attendees in Portland, Oregon on October 6th at 45 East, marking a glorious return to the city for the first time since the venerated talent’s 2008 performance with Sasha at the Roseland Theater.
On October 8th, Digweed arrives in Texas for a four-on-the-floor extravaganza at Houston’s hub for house and techno, Bauhaus. Local party-goers can revel in the sounds of Digweed’s sonic mastery once again, reminding many of his last performance in the city at Stereo Live in mid-June of 2019.
Lastly, Digweed rounds out his slate of shows with an appearance at Chicago’s esteemed nightclub, Sound Bar, on October 9th. The set directly follows his last Chicago jaunt at the venue from December of 2019.
For the powerhouse’s die-hard fans, five rare shows with Sasha have also been announced. The tour begins the month prior on September 17th at Austin, Texas’ The Concourse Project from 9 pm to 2 am. It continues the following night at Miami, Florida’s quintessential electronic dance music locale, Club Space, from 11 pm to 11 am, a full 12-hours.
The unstoppable duo follow up their July 2019 performance by making their return to The Brooklyn Mirage on September 24th, with doors opening at 9 pm. On the 25th, they’ll be playing at Denver, Colorado’s The Warehouse Experience, and will be capping off their performances with one another on the 26th at San Diego’s CRSSD Festival , which serves as their debut set together at the event.
John Digweed ‘s 2021 ten-stop U.S. tour is a special occasion for the DJ/producer, harkening back to the mid-’90s when he’d often fly back-and-forth to New York City to perform. In all, North America holds a special place for the hallowed musical stalwart and is ready to take the dancefloor by storm thanks to Digweed .
“ North America is like a second home to me. It and its people embraced me as I embraced it when I’d cross back and forth the Atlantic. It’s been unfortunate that I’ve not been able to return until now, but I cannot wait to get there and see all those familiar faces once again ” – John Digweed

10 most BEAUTIFUL buildings & sites in Nizhny Novgorod (PHOTOS)
1. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin
The kremlin in Nizhny Novgorod stands in the city’s historic center. Although a wooden fortress stood here long before it, construction of the stone Kremlin began in 1500. The remaining walls of the old wooden fortification were destroyed by fire in 1513.
The fortress had a permanent garrison with solid artillery weapons, as it served as an important military outpost for Moscow during the military campaign against the Khanate of Kazan.
Today, the monumental structure houses the city and provincial authorities, while a part of the stone kremlin wall is open for tourists.
2. The Main Building of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair
According to some sources, the fair dates back to 1524. It was set up by Moscow princes to compete with a fair held in the Tatar capital of Kazan. In its prime, the fair was one of the largest commercial centers in the whole country and was attended by merchants from as far as India, Central Asia, and Iran.
The current main building of the fair was constructed in 1817. Originally, it housed the governor’s apartments along with official institutions paramount for the fair’s functioning. These days, the fair is also held annually, though on a smaller scale compared to massive trading that happened there a few centuries ago.
3. The State Bank Building
This magnificent building was constructed in 1913 to celebrate the Romanov Tercentenary, a grand celebration of the ruling of the House of Romanov. Emperor Nicholas II even paid a visit to this place on May 17, 1913. The interior design corresponds to the rich exterior, that’s made in neo-Russian architectural style, something that was common for extravagant buildings of the late tsarist era. The walls inside the building are painted in accordance with sketches by famous Russian artist Ivan Bilibin .
4. Nizhny Novgorod Drama Theater
The original building of 1798 was modest. Contemporaries described it as dark and clumsy. It hosted a theater where actors were peasant serfs. Yet, in 1896, a prominent Russian architect of German origin named Victor Schröter stepped in to design a new building that is, arguably, one of the most beautiful in the city.
5. Gorky Museum
This is one of the few remaining mansions of the 19th century in Nizhny Novgorod that has preserved its original interior. It also has been declared a monument of Russian history and culture.
Originally a merchant’s mansion, the building became a museum dedicated to one of the most celebrated Soviet writers, Maxim Gorky, in 1934. Under Soviet governance, from 1932 to 1990, the city itself used to be officially called ‘Gorky’ – to commemorate the writer’s work.
6. Spassky Old Market Cathedral
The cathedral was built between 1816 and 1822. French classicist architect Auguste de Montferrand, architect of Saint Isaac’s Cathedral and Alexander Column in St. Petersburg, helped to design this beautiful cathedral. It’s called ‘Old Market’, because initially it was constructed for the benefit of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair.
Today, it is a fully functioning cathedral. In 2009, a monument of an angel was constructed near the cathedral. It is dedicated to the Chernobyl liquidators, civil and military personnel who were called upon to clear the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986.
7. The Rukavishnikov Estate
This family estate was built in 1877 by Sergei Rukavishnikov, one of the richest and most famous industrialists in Nizhny Novgorod at the time. The family estate resembles a small city palace, as its facade is decorated with bas-relief and figures and its interior is decorated with lavish wall paintings.
Today, it hosts the Nizhny Novgorod State Museum of History and Architecture.
8. The Sirotkin House
This building was constructed just before the Russian Revolution, in 1913-1916, by the order of famous shipowner and merchant Dmitry Sirotkin. The architects chose a classicist style with typical semi-rotundas. After the revolution, the city estate was nationalized and became a museum.
Currently, this building houses a collection of West European art owned by the Nizhny Novgorod State Art Museum. The most well known and precious painting there is ‘The appeal of Minin to the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod’ by Konstantin Makovsky.
‘The appeal of Minin to the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod’ by Konstantin Makovsky.
9. Nativity Church
The official name of this building is ‘Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary’, yet it is commonly referred to as the ‘Nativity’ or ‘Stroganov Church’, as its construction that lasted from 1696 to 1719 was sponsored by the merchant Grigory Stroganov.
Today, the building has the status of a monument of architecture of federal significance.
10. Church of St. John the Baptist
This building is one of the oldest orthodox churches in the city. The original wooden construction of the 15th century was reconstructed in stone in 1676 with the personal funds of merchant Gavriil Dranishnikov, who offered to sponsor the construction as a gesture of commitment to Orthodoxy after his wife and son had converted into Old Believers.
From the porch of the wooden church, Russian national hero Kuzma Minin appealed to the citizens of Nizhny Novgorod to liberate Moscow from the Polish invasion in the early 17th century.

Widely considered, after St Petersburg and Moscow, to be Russia’s ‘third city’, Nizhny is fast becoming a hot-spot for Russian and global tourists alike, attracted by the city’s up-and-coming reputation and stunning landscape.
The Kremlin
Jutting out from the cliffs that overlook the meeting point of the great Volga and Oka rivers, Nizhny Novgorod ‘s ancient Kremlin boasts of some of the best views in the city. Designed by an Italian architect, the 13 magnificent towers and the 12 meter high walls of Nizhny’s Kremlin date back to 1500. On this very spot in 1612, heroes of Russian history Kuzma Minin and Count Dmitry Pozharsky defeated the invading Polish army in extraordinary circumstances. This moment has become legend in Russian history and a statue in honor of these two lies at the foot of St Basil’s in Moscow. The Kremlin is the historic center of the city where you will find an art museum and the lovely Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, as well as a striking monument to those that fought in the Second World War and its flame eternally flickering on in their memory.
Ride on the cable car
Completed in 2012, taking a ride on Nizhny Novgorod’s cablecar has fast become a favorite activity of tourists. The trip offers unparalleled opportunities to view the city’s gorgeous natural landscape from this bird’s eye position. The 3660m long gondola lift connects Nizhny to the town of Bor and stretches across the Volga River for 900 panoramic meters. The gondola acts as both a convenient means of transportation and a fantastic sight-seeing expedition – come at sunset for a golden-bathed view of the river and surrounding landscape.
The house-museum of Maxim Gorky
During the Soviet era, Nizhny Novgorod, birthplace of celebrated Russian writer Maxim Gorky , was renamed ‘Gorky’ in honor of this national hero. This home has been preserved in a state as accurate as possible to how it was left by Gorky and is so successful in this that it would seem as though the writer still lived there. The museum ‘s historic interiors and authentic furnishings will transport you back to the 1900s and the creative world of this icon of Russian literature. Come and make the most of this unique experience to delve into the childhood world of this Russian father of social realism. Museum booklets and guided tours are available in English.
Nizhegorodskaya Yarmarka
A yarmarka is something akin to a fair, and this historic former market place was restored in 1991, the site now playing home to a superb modern exhibition center. The city’s yarmarka plays host to international events, fairs, and conventions. In 2011, for the 20 year anniversary of the fair’s refounding, a vast array of exhibitions were organized, attended by thousands including members of the British royal family, Vladimir Putin, Mikhail Gorbachev , and Margaret Thatcher . The fair is not only a buzzing center of business and culture, it is also one of the city’s most impressive sights.
The Nizhegorodsky State Art Museum
Located inside Nizhny Novgorod’s ancient Kremlin, the building that houses this art gallery was once the home of the governor of the city. The exhibits are wide-ranging and include everything from 14th century religious icons, to work by 20th century contemporary Russian masters. Particularly dazzling is the collection by Russian painter Nicholas Roerich. There is also a large arts and crafts collection which demonstrates the exquisite handiwork of Russian artisans throughout history.
Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street
The chkalov staircase.
An idyllic spot from which to watch the sun’s rays set over the city, this monumental creation was constructed by the Soviet government and is unique to the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The staircase derives its name from pilot Valery Chkalov who, in 1937, became the first man to fly from Moscow to Vancouver through the North Pole. A monument to Chkalov stands at the top of the stairs. The construction of the staircase cost almost 8 million rubles – an immense sum at the time. Over 1,500 stairs connect the city center with the river embankment – making Chkalov’s landmark the longest flight of stairs along the Volga. Nowadays the staircase is a favorite meeting place and relaxation spot for locals.
The Rukavishnikov Estate Museum
The Rukavishnikovs were a family of immensely wealthy merchants originating from the region around Nizhny Novgorod. This superbly restored palace , their former home, has been transformed into a museum of Russian history and gives a realistic snap-shot of life for the wealthy under tsarist rule. The ornate 19th century interiors and exquisite facade are sure to dazzle with their beauty while the lush green of the surrounding natural landscape provides a tranquil getaway from the city center. Lavish furnishings, priceless antiques, and glistening gold will transport you back in time to a world of balls, carriages, banquets, and tsars. Join the world of Russian noble ladies and gentlemen for a day in this stunning palace.
The Sakharov Museum
Nizhny Novgorod’s Sakharov Museum is dedicated to dissident Russian scientist Andrei Sakharov . The nuclear physicist and human rights activist was exiled for six years to the very flat in which the museum is now housed. Sakharov’s support for civil reform and improved human rights in the Soviet Union earned him harsh persecution from the Russian government, but also, in 1975, a Nobel Peace Prize . Sakharov was incarcerated here until 1986 when a KGB officer arrived to install a phone in the flat. Just after the phone was installed it began to ring: the caller was Mikhail Gorbachev, ringing Sakharov to inform him of his release. This phone is now one of the museum’s most treasured artifacts.
The National Centre of Contemporary Art
Inside the walls of Nizhny’s Kremlin can also be found one of the best modern art galleries in Russia. Linked to galleries in both St Petersburg and Moscow, this top-ranking exhibition center houses regularly changing displays of both Russian and international art as well as interactive exhibits and a media library. Progress is also on-going of adding a concert hall, extending the exhibition areas, and creating a restaurant. These additions aim to make art contemporary, not simply a detached, unrelatable concept, but bring it closer to the Russian people.
