Frequently asked questions.

Jet ski rentals vary in price based on location and duration of rentals. Typically, it costs between $50/person to $500 for a full day rental.

Weekly jet ski rentals are available, and often owners provide discounted pricing for longer-term rentals. Include in your inquiry to the owner of the jet skis that you wish to rent for a whole week to see their availability and if there are any special offers.

Jet ski licensing rules for rentals depend on the location. In some places, a Personal Watercraft License (PWC) is required to rent a jet ski. In other places you can rent a jet ski without a license if you get a safety demonstration and instructions on how to operate it before your rental. You can ask about the specific requirements when you make a booking inquiry to rent a jet ski. If you have a boating license, it qualifies for operating jet skis too.

In most locations you must be at least 18 years old to rent a jet ski.

Hear what our customers say.

The Tour was amazing. One of the best things we have ever done. Highly recommended. It is so much fun to ride the jetski and to have This absolutly stunning view over Manhattan. The Tour guides Patrick and Veronica were also super nice and made this experience very special.

We had an amazing time today, Veronica took us out and was so friendly and patient, especially with myself who was quite slow on the jet skis, she made us feel at ease. Definitely would recommend to anybody going to New York to do this unique experience of the city. The sights are unreal!

By far one of the coolest experiences ever! Made extra amazing by the wonderful and attentive staff that truly went above and beyond. Zoe, Kelsey and Captain made my best friend’s bachelorette a truly memorable experience. Can’t recommend this tour enough!

Incredible time on the Jetskis and felt very safe at all times with our hostesses who made sure that we were having a wild time and that we wouldn’t get in the way of ferries. Some of the best money I have spent in NY!

Had our company team event with Sea the City and it was simply an AMAZING experience for all of us! Everyone felt very safe at all times, three great guides were alongside us and the views from the water of the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan/Brooklyn Bridges and the Jersey City and NYC Skyline were absolutely stunning! Highly recommend Sea the City for your next event!

The best NYC experience you can get! Nothing comes close to jet skiing under the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty and many more! Absolutely loved every second of my tour and would definitely do that again! Big thank you to our amazing tour guides, you guys are the best! Worth every $!

That was an incredible experience!! Got to go fast, enjoy the water, and see the city from a whole different perspective. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone!!!

How Much Does it Cost to Rent a Jet Ski? – Average Jet Ski Rental Costs

But as usual, the price is an important consideration!

When it comes to jet ski rental costs, the numbers vary widely depending on the location, and the quality of the services you can expect. “Quality” means the jet ski’s performance , age, condition, and the staff’s professionalism.

Beyond the advertised rates, be aware that you also have to factor in the hidden costs at many rental shops! Always keep this in mind before you rent a jet ski. Additionally, don’t miss our step-by-step jet ski rental guide to make your jet skiing experience is hassle-free.

Now, without further ado, let’s check average jet ski rental costs on the market!

How Much Does it Cost to Rent a Jet Ski?

So be careful! As we’ve mentioned, these are the advertised prices , which means in many cases you have to count on some extra hidden costs beyond these rates.

That’s because many jet ski rental companies use an old trick, offering lower hourly rates in their ads to lure you. In fact, this is just one of the 8 most common tricks that unethical rental shops try to use repeatedly.

  • Car parking fees
  • Extra charges for gas
  • Maintenance or service fees
  • Cleaning fee
  • Pickup/dropoff fee
  • Life jacket rental charges
  • Rental charges for wet suits, gloves, goggles
  • Temporary safety boating card fee
  • Late arrival charges

To avoid surprises, always make sure to read through the rental’s policy and FAQ pages before you book (even when renting via coupons!). If you find any questionable fees or unclear charges, feel free to clarify by calling the rental shop.

Find out what these fees are and how they measure up to the advertised rates. Depending on your budget, make a decision on whether or not you should proceed with the rental.

Now that you have an idea of what the average rental cost could be with the hidden fees, it’s time to look at the average price of each region of the U.S. Most companies in the same location will offer similar prices, which is a great way to get an idea of what the average cost will be for the region.

Even with the average costs, you need to factor in potential hidden fees, so make sure to look at the price beyond what you are given to give you a better idea of what you’ll be paying for the jet ski rental.

Things to Know Before You Rent a Jet Ski

Imagine the thrill of zipping across the water, letting it splash on your face as you take in the sights and sounds of the water. Jet skiing is an exhilarating adventure whether you are a beginner or a pro. Here are important things to know before renting a jet ski.

Age and License Requirements

You must abide by the rules of your local area when you want to rent a jet ski. Are there restrictions on age? Do you need a license before you hire or operate a jet ski? You can check this first and ensure you meet the necessary requirements so there will be no interruptions along the way.

Rental Agreement

When seeking a company’s jet ski rental services, you must sign beforehand. The agreement states all the terms and conditions, including insurance covers, liability, and other details on the fees to be charged in case of damages. It is best to take the time to read through the document before signing and air any concerns you may have.

Safety Standards

Another crucial aspect when it comes to what you need to know before renting a jet ski is the safety measures taken by the rental company. Riding a jet ski can be risky, so you must follow certain rules. For instance, you must have a life jacket on at all times and a skill switch tied around your wrist for extra safety. For your comfort, you may also want to wear a wetsuit and goggles.

Every rental company has regulations based on the water body you will be riding on. Pay attention to the rules and instructions you’re given to guarantee a safe and fun ride. The rental company will tell you about the speed limits, distance you must ride away from other watercraft, no-wake zones, and restricted stunts like spinning.

Jet Ski Features and Controls

Note that jet skis are designed differently, so each model comes with its unique features and controls. Before you zip off, take the time to learn about the aspects of the particular jet ski you are riding. If you are unfamiliar with it, the staff should demonstrate how to operate it. Learn the on/off keys, how to control the throttle, and other navigation instruments.

Seek the Help of an Experienced Professional in the Industry

First time riding off into the waters on a jet ski? Trust Jet Skis Ahoy, a jet ski rental service in Washington , to help you get started.

Jet Ski Rental Startup Costs: All Costs to Consider

jet ski travel rental

Starting a jet ski rental business is an exciting journey that combines the adventure of water sports with the rewards of entrepreneurship.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about kicking off and running a jet ski rental, including the costs you'll face at the start and as you keep going, as well as the earning potential and profit margins you might see.

With careful planning, smart spending, and a dedication to making your customers happy, you can overcome any hurdles and make the most of the opportunities in the jet ski rental world.

Is It Expensive to Start a Jet Ski Rental Business?

Starting a jet ski rental business requires a considerable investment, with an estimated initial cost of around $292,920 for a small-scale, standard operation in the United States. * This cost encompasses purchasing jet skis, securing a storage facility, obtaining licenses and permits, insurance, marketing, and other startup expenses.

Key factors affecting these costs include the selection and number of jet skis, location, facility type (rent, lease, or construct), and additional services offered. Operational expenses such as employee training, marketing, insurance, and facility setup also significantly contribute to the overall investment.

While starting a jet ski rental business can be expensive due to these factors, careful planning, negotiation, and efficient resource management can help lower initial costs and set the foundation for a profitable venture.

What are the Important Jet Ski Rental Startup Costs?

When launching a jet ski rental business, understanding the key financial commitments is crucial for planning and budgeting. Let's break down the essential startup costs you'll face.

Startup Costs

The initial investment for a jet ski rental business can range significantly depending on scale and location. However, a typical small-scale startup might need between $20,000 and $25,000. * This includes the cost of jet skis, safety equipment, and initial operational expenses.

Buying Jet Skis

The core of your expenses will be in acquiring the jet skis. New jet skis can cost between $5,000 to $10,000 each, with luxury models reaching upwards of $20,000. * The number of jet skis you purchase initially will greatly impact your startup budget.

Required Safety Gear and Life Jackets

Safety equipment, including life jackets, is non-negotiable for a rental business. These costs vary but expect to allocate a significant portion of your budget to ensure the safety of your customers.

Parking Spots or Docks

Securing space for your jet skis, whether it's dock space or parking spots near the water, will incur rental fees. These costs depend on your location and the size of your fleet.

Commercial Insurance

Insurance is critical to protect your business and customers. If you have employees, you'll need several types of insurance, including property, liability, and possibly workers' compensation. Insurance costs can be substantial, so getting accurate quotes early in your planning process is important.

Point of Sale System

A reliable POS system is essential for processing transactions, tracking rentals, and managing inventory. The cost will vary depending on the system's complexity and any ongoing subscription fees.

Staffing and Payroll Expenses

If you're hiring employees to help run your business, consider salaries, training costs, and any benefits you plan to offer. This will be a recurring expense that grows with your team.

Advertising and Marketing Expenses

To attract customers, you'll need to invest in marketing and advertising . This could include digital marketing, print materials, and promotional events. The amount you spend can vary widely based on your strategy.

Website and App Development

A professional website and, if applicable, a booking app, are crucial for reaching customers. Depending on your requirements, development costs can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars.

Equipment Maintenance Expenses

Regular maintenance to keep your jet skis in top condition is a must. Set aside a budget for repairs, parts replacement, and routine service checks to avoid larger expenses down the line.

By carefully planning for these expenses, you can set a solid foundation for your jet ski rental business. Proper budget management and financial forecasting will be key to navigating the startup phase and paving the way for future success.

Take in the San Diego skyline from the water during an outing on a Jet Ski.

Note: Some companies on this list may have limited operations due to COVID-19. Check with operators about availability before you book.

To truly see San Diego , you'll have to view it from both land and sea. The following companies offer opportunities to see the city's aquatic sights for yourself or take part in a guided tour from aboard a personal watercraft like a Jet Ski or WaveRunner. Cruise through San Diego Bay to enjoy views of the city skyline, or take a thrilling ride through beautiful Mission Bay or along the La Jolla coast in the Pacific Ocean. U.S. News reviewed both expert input and traveler opinion to compile this list of the best Jet Ski rental companies and tour operators in San Diego.

To rent a personal watercraft, most companies require that you are at least 18 years old and have a valid photo ID. You can also choose to get a California Boater Card , a certification that proves the holder has taken a boater safety course. While the card is optional for operating a rental, the course could be helpful if you've never operated a Jet Ski or WaveRunner.

San Diego Bay Adventures

Discover San Diego Bay aboard a personal watercraft with a rental from San Diego Bay Adventures. The company provides a WaveRunner, a life jacket and a wetsuit, if you'd like one. Before you ride, you'll receive operating instructions. There is a maximum of two riders per craft. The company recommends you wear swimwear for your ride. During your adventure, you may spot sea lions. You can also cruise past top sights like the USS Midway , the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, the Star of India ship and the Hotel del Coronado . Rental rates (which include fuel) start at $99 for 75 minutes, while two-hour rentals start at $169. You are not accompanied by a guide during your rental period. Rentals are available every day except Wednesday at 9 and 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.; there are also additional slots at 1 and 5 p.m. for the 75-minute rental. Reviewers say the staff are friendly and informative, adding that they provide top-notch service. San Diego Bay Adventures also rents paddleboards and kayaks.

Mission Bay Sportcenter

At Mission Bay Sportcenter, you can rent a personal watercraft on your own or take one of the company's guided tours. Aboard the WaveRunner, you can cruise through Mission Bay, going past attractions like SeaWorld San Diego , Mission Bay Aquatic Center and numerous hotels and resorts . Alternately, you can take a guided personal watercraft tour of Mission Bay to San Diego Bay (or vice versa) to view the San Diego waterfront, drive past the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and zip along the shores of La Jolla. The two-hour guided tours start at $199 per person and require a minimum of four participants. Riders say staff are informative and provide good instructions about operating the personal watercraft. Reviewers also advise that you may want to make a reservation in advance, especially during busy times. Rentals are available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each WaveRunner can accommodate up to two people, and rental rates start at $95 for one hour. The company requests you arrive 30 minutes prior to your start time to complete the rental agreement and training. Know that parking is limited. Mission Bay Sportcenter also rents pontoon boats, sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards.

Action Sport Rentals

Enjoy a WaveRunner outing in either San Diego Bay or Mission Bay with Action Sport Rentals. The company offers one- and two-hour Yamaha WaveRunner rentals for $110 and $200, respectively. Fees include use of wetsuits and life jackets. Three riders can ride a WaveRunner at a time; however, they must be at least 3 feet tall and cannot exceed a combined weight of 450 pounds. Action Sport Rentals has four locations: Paradise Point Resort & Spa , Kona Kai Resort & Spa , San Diego Mission Bay Resort and Loews Coronado Bay Resort . Rentals are available daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Riders describe the company's employees as friendly, helpful and focused on safety. They also say that the experience is fun. Action Sport Rentals offers kayak, surfboard, FunCat and boat rentals as well.

Luxury Jet Ski Rentals

Located at Harbor Island in downtown San Diego, Luxury Jet Ski Rentals offers Sea-Doo models for up to two riders that start at $69 per hour. Drivers must be 18 or older, while riders need to be at least 10 years old. Rentals are available daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and no security deposit is required. Riders can explore San Diego Bay and some of its sights, including Shelter Island, the San Diego Navy Base, Seaport Village and Coronado Island , though there is no accompanying tour guide. Reviewers recommend Luxury Jet Ski Rentals, noting the company's quality service and equipment. The company also rents boats, paddleboards and kayaks, among other equipment.

SD Adventures

Hop aboard a Yamaha WaveRunner and explore San Diego Bay on your own or with one other person as your passenger. The company offers 75-minute rentals that start at $99 per hour and are available Friday through Monday from about 9 a.m. to about 3 p.m. Wetsuits are available for an additional fee. The company recommends arriving around 30 minutes before your scheduled departure. In San Diego Bay, you can see seals, sea lions and dolphins, among other wildlife, as well as sights like the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, Point Loma and Shelter Island. Renters recommend SD Adventures, noting great watercraft and fantastic views. Others say they encountered poor customer service. SD Adventures also offers boat, kayak and paddleboard rentals.

Seaforth Boat Rentals

Rent a personal watercraft from Coronado Island, Mission Bay or downtown San Diego with Seaforth Boat Rentals. Their watercrafts can hold up to two passengers and start at $75 for one hour and $115 for two hours. Renters must be at least 21 years old, while drivers must be 18 or older. Passengers need to be able to sit behind the driver with their feet touching the deck. Reviewers recommend this company, saying they have quality equipment and good service. You can also rent powerboats, sailboats and fishing boats from Seaforth Boat Rentals.

With so many beautiful beaches in Barbados to choose from, it might be a little tricky to decide which beach to go to for a swim, but there are a few factors to consider.

When thinking about a beach to swim at, be mindful of the intensity of the waves, skill level, and lifeguard huts.
