Our skipper has 22 years of experience on Ningaloo Reef, guaranteeing a wealth of wildlife knowledge. We always have a qualified Dive Master on board, along with additional deck staff who offer personalised assistance to nervous snorkelers and a spotter plane for quick sighting of the majestic Whale Sharks.

For added safety while swimming with Whale Sharks, we have a Safety Tender (inflatable boat) in the water to provide extra assistance, especially for those who have limited swimming/snorkelling ability. The one of very few operators that offers this!

Our specially designed Marlin Board is located at water level for easy access in and out of the water.

Safety Tender:

Your safety is our utmost priority, and we ensure your well-being throughout the tour.

We have a Safety Tender (inflatable boat) in the water with additional crew members who provide assistance whenever needed and always within meters of the swimmers at all times.

Our certified team swims with the snorkelers and another watches over everyone from the tender while swimming with whale sharks. They are there to offer extra safety and guidance, ready to assist anyone who may require help.

We do everything we can to ensure you get to frolic with these gentle giants in the beautiful clear waters of the Ningaloo . But, on the rare occasion our whale shark friends aren't around, we give the option of a free repeat tour, a partial refund, or a transferable voucher valid for 2 years.

Are we likely to see other types of sharks during the snorkelling tours?

Yes, it's possible to see other types of sharks during snorkelling tours with Three Islands Whale Shark Dive, but it's not guaranteed and will depend on various factors. Some species that you may see include:

• Reef sharks: The most common types you might encounter are grey reef sharks, blacktip reef sharks, and whitetip reef sharks. These are small- to medium-sized sharks known for their docile nature and are generally not a threat to humans.
• Pelagic sharks: Occasional sightings of larger, open-water species like oceanic whitetip sharks or silvertip sharks are also possible, though less frequent.

What should I bring for the snorkelling tour?

Packing for your whale shark snorkelling tour with Three Islands Whale Shark Dive requires preparation for both comfort and safety. Here's a list of recommended items:

• Sun protectection wear: broad-brimmed Hat and UV-resistant sunglasses
• Swimwear: Towel and bathers
• Camera for snapping memories
• Dry clothing and warm jacket to change into
• Seasickness Medication: If you are prone to seasickness or unsure it is best to bring this to maximise your experience
• Personal snorkelling gear if you'd prefer to use your own (we offer complimentary gear)

What happens in case of tour cancellations?

A full refund will be given for tours cancelled due to bad weather minimum number policy or mechanical breakdown.

Standard Terms for Groups of 1-4

• Notified cancellation up to 72 hours before tour departure (0800 on tour date); 100% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation within 72 hours but more than 24 hours before tour departure; 50% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation within 24 hours of tour departure or a ‘no show’ on the day; 0% refundable
• If cancelling due to covid restrictions (invoked by Govt) standard terms apply OR receive a full credit for use

Groups of 5-9

• Notified cancellation more than 5 full days prior to tour departure; 100% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation within 5 days to 72 hours prior to tour departure; 50% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation less than 72 hours prior to tour departure; 0% refundable
• Covid related cancellation up to 5 days before tour departure; 100% refund. Within 5 days standard terms apply OR a full credit for another time.

Groups of 10 or more

• Notified cancellation more than 14 full days prior to tour departure; 100% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation within 14 days but more than 5 days prior to tour departure; 50% refundable of total tour price
• Notified cancellation within 5 days; 0% refundable
• Covid related cancellation more than 14 days before tour 100% refund. Within 14 days standard terms apply OR a full credit for another time.
• 3 Islands reserves the right to cancel any tour if minimum passenger numbers are not obtained to run the tour viably. If this occurs, either a full refund or an alternative date will be arranged with the passenger.

What are the arrangements and advice for seasickness?

Our large boats are designed to give you a comfortable ride and a positive experience out on the water. If you start to feel off while on board one of our vessels, simply let our friendly staff know and we'll take care of you. How? We own and operate our own spotter plane to find you a whale shark to swim with – unlike almost all other whale shark tours that share a spotter plane (and its costs) between their tour boats.

So our guests usually have their own whale shark to swim with, rather than having to wait in a line of boats for a turn to swim, like guests on most other tours.

We care more!  We have significantly more crew onboard to support, guide and inform you from start to finish of your tour than any other whale shark tour on the Ningaloo. Just ask for help and we will be there!
