2.1.    Wherever possible the procurement of stationery and other materials that we use within our business will be specified as re-cycled.

2.2.    Non-essential office equipment and lighting will be switched off when not in use to conserve energy.

2.3.    Paper based systems will be reduced by utilising electronic systems such as reservations, billing and invoicing.

3.2.    We will follow guidelines and requirements as requested by the Government and the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

3.3.    All our vehicles and partner vehicles will be serviced as per the manufacturers schedule.

3.4.    Scheduling of journeys to minimise unloaded miles will be organised where practical.

3.5.    We will actively encourage our car share scheme with our clients and their travellers to help reduce their CO2 emissions.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Risk Assessment Bristol Travel Ltd has always put safety as its number one priority and right now, this is more important than ever. Things may be a little different but ensuring safety and well-being always comes first and we want customers to be confident to travel with Bristol Travel Ltd and colleagues to have peace of mind when at work. This article provides a summary assessment of our approach to reducing the risk to our customers, colleagues and others affected by our operations of contracting Covid-19 when travelling or working with Bristol Travel Ltd. In determining appropriate control measures, we have followed relevant Government guidance and will continue to review these measures as this develops.   Consultation We have consulted and taken feedback from: • Government bodies including the Department for Transport, Public Health England. • Trade and industry bodies including CPT (Confederation for Passenger Transport UK) • Our partner operators • Suppliers and contractors This has assisted us in designing and implementing the controls which are summarised below. Risk controls We have implemented a number of key risk controls across our vehicle fleet as follows… Social distancing • Signage, posters to control social distancing • Limiting the maximum capacity of all Minibuses. Passengers travelling alone will be asked to sit in window seats. People travelling together as part of the same household or in a social bubble (as defined by the Government) may, on certain selected routes and at our discretion, be able to sit together. This means the aisle seat may be occupied but on one side of the vehicle only. Cleaning and personal hygiene • Enhanced cleaning regimes and increased frequency of cleaning of touch points • The introduction of regular aerosol based disinfection with a high performance antiviral solution –  sometimes called ‘fogging’ – on our vehicles • Mandatory requirement for customers to wear a face covering when in our vehicles • Hand sanitiser available for customers at entrance to vehicles • Disposable face masks available to all customers.  Managing customers, colleagues and partners • Management structures allow oversight and regular supervision of these control measures • Management teams who are briefed and or trained on the relevant guidelines • Monitoring programme to ensure compliance with risk controls • Communication via briefings, posters. • Guidance to only use Designated pickup points if travelling and limiting arrival time to manage capacity at pickup points. • Staggered work patterns, including meal and break times Risk evaluation and results Based on our evaluation of the current controls, the risks associated with coronavirus (COVID-19) are reduced to as low as is reasonably practicable within our vehicles.

Terms & Conditions

These are the conditions of hire of Bristol Travel Ltd, (hereinafter called “the company”). They form the basis of the contract under which the company agrees to hire its vehicles to the customer (hereinafter called “the hirer”).

1. Breakdown and Delays

The company gives its advice on journey time in good faith. However, as a result of breakdown or traffic congestion, or other events beyond the reasonable control of the company, journeys may take longer than predicted and in those circumstances, the company will not be liable for any loss or inconvenience suffered by the hirer as a result.

2. Liability for Injury

The company will not accept any liability for damage, injury or loss for any passenger standing up or walking around the vehicle whilst in motion.

3. Use of the Vehicle

The hirer cannot assume the use of the vehicle between outward and return journeys, nor that will it remain at the destination of the hirer’s use unless this has been agreed with the company in advance.

4. The Use of Other Operators Vehicles

The company reserves the right to substitute other operators’ vehicles in place of its own for any journey or part thereof.

5. Payment Terms

A one third deposit is payable at the time of booking. The balance of the hire charge is payable by seven days prior to the date of hire, unless other payment terms are agreed as stated overleaf. (The company reserves the right to decline to execute any work when the foregoing condition has not been adhered to, in which case the deposit becomes forfeitable by the hirer to the company).

6. Passenger Capacity and Seat Belts

No passenger may be carried in excess of the seating capacity of the vehicle and passengers must wear the seat belts provided at all times.

7. Drivers hours regulations

The hours of operation for the driver are regulated by law and the hirer accepts the responsibility of ensuring the hire keeps to the hours and times agreed by the Company. Neither the hirer nor any passenger shall delay or otherwise interrupt the journey in such a way that the driver is at risk of breaching regulations relating to driving hours and duty time. If any breach is likely to occur, the hirer will be responsible for any additional costs incurred unless it is outside the control of the hirer.

8. Conduct of Passengers

a) The driver is responsible for the safety of the vehicle at all times and as such may remove any passenger whose behaviour prejudices safety or is in breach of the Public Service Vehicle (Conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors and Passengers) Regulations 1990. These regulations set out certain rights and responsibilities on all parties and full details of these can be obtained from the company on request. The hirer is responsible for any damage caused to the vehicle by any passenger for the duration of the hire.

b) Where the hire is to a sporting event, the hirer should be aware of the legal requirements relating to alcohol, contained in the Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act 1985, (as amended) and the conditions of entry to racecourses as laid down by the Race Course Association Ltd. The company will provide details of these restrictions on request.

9. Cancellations

Cancellation by The Hirer

a) For Cancellation more than 5 working days prior to the first day of the hire – the cancellation charge to the hirer is £50 per vehicle per day of hire.

b) For Cancellation less than 5 working days prior to the first day of the hire – the cancellation charge to the hirer is 50% of the total hire charge.

c) For Cancellation on the day prior to, the charge to the hirer is 75% of the total hire charge.

d) For Cancellation on the day the cancellation charge to the hirer is 100% of the total hire charge.

e) Upon cancellation, the hirer will also be liable to pay for any additional items or services that have been bought and paid for on behalf of the hirer in advance of the hire. For example, ferry services, theatre tickets, meals, parking permits, accommodation andguide services etc. Every effort will be made by the company to reduce this liability however all non-retrievable charges will be the responsibility of the hirer.

Cancellation by the Operator

Once a booking is confirmed by the hirer, the Operator will never cancel a hire (as long as payment terms have been adhered to). In cases of extreme weather conditions or exceptional circumstances out of the Operators control, Bristol Travel will liaise with the hirer and make every reasonable effort to make sure the hire is completed.

10. Consumption of Alcohol

The consumption and or carrying of alcohol in the passenger compartment of company vehicles is strictly forbidden unless permission has been obtained from the company.

11. Returnable Additional Deposits

The company reserves the right to insist upon a returnable additional deposit being provided by the hirer in addition to the hire charge. This deposit will be returned to the hirer following completion of the hire provided that non-additional expenses were incurred by the company which were a direct result of the hirers, or his passengers actions.

12. No smoking policy

Hirers should note that this company operates a policy of no smoking on all company vehicles. This policy will be strictly enforced. Would hirers please bring this condition to the attention of all passengers intending to travel on the coach. 

13. Airport or Ferry Transfers

On collecting passengers from airports, ferry ports, etc., the coach will wait for one hour after the prearranged collection time free of charge. After that additional waiting time will be charged at the discretion of the company. 

14. Acceptance of Our Quotation

Implies acceptance of the above conditions.

15. Complaints

In the event of a complaint about the company’s services, the hirer should endeavour to seek a solution at the time by seeking assistance from the driver, or from the company by calling our support staff on 01454 549 165. If this has not provided a remedy, complaints should be submitted in writing and within 14 days of the termination of the hire. Opinion | Related Bristol: Transformative opportunity or cautionary tale for Santa Ana?

The Related Bristol project is stuck in neutral and waiting to move forward to formal hearings and, hopefully approval. This transformational project in Santa Ana could deliver several thousand apartments, vibrant retail and 13.1 acres of actively programmed open space as the centerpiece of the single largest private investment in the city’s 154-year history. Related Bristol is a mixed-use project years in the making that reimagines 41 acres now occupied by an aging, outdated shopping center with increasingly vacant big box retailers into a model for future housing and sustainable growth on south Bristol Street in the heart of Orange County’s arts and entertainment district.

Related Bristol brings much needed housing and a package of unprecedented economic and community benefits that the developer has volunteered at a time when the city is facing a worsening and potentially crippling budget crisis.  The sales tax revenue from new retail opportunities at Related Bristol would provide an ongoing source of revenue to help address a multitude of intersecting issues facing Santa Ana’s leaders as they work diligently to meet the needs of their residents.

Related Bristol is an opportunity that should by all accounts be embraced enthusiastically by Santa Ana decision makers.

Yet, while other cities in Orange County push developments forward to solve their own housing and fiscal challenges, Santa Ana is inexplicably failing to move with any urgency on Related Bristol, a once-in-a-generation $3 billion project. If built, Related Bristol will deliver an estimated $500 million in new revenue to the city during its first 30 years of operation that could be spent across the city on all types of critical projects and resident-serving initiatives. Related Bristol will also create 7,500 new jobs and 13.1 acres of public, programmed open space on site in a city sorely lacking parks and playgrounds for the county’s second largest population.

Moreover, the project’s proposed 3,750 market rate apartments will enable a significant amount of new low-income subsidized housing, either built on site or through in lieu fees to support affordable projects  elsewhere in the city. This contribution of both affordable and market rate housing would put a major dent in region’s housing shortage, which poses an alarming threat to the county’s economic future and viability. Without an adequate housing supply in Orange County, workers in all sectors and income levels will continue to drive from distances further and further away to fill the expanding and envied job market in Santa Ana and surrounding communities.

For Santa Ana, Related Bristol is precisely the type of development envisioned by the city when it studied, took input and ultimately adopted a General Plan amendment in 2022 for the South Bristol Street Corridor. Replacing the half-century-old, increasingly vacant retail center and its accompanying  expanses of crumbling asphalt parking with a vibrant, walkable, human centered  mixed-use community with the caliber of design proposed at Related Bristol is a once in a generation opportunity.  As proposed, Related Bristol is consistent with  Santa Ana’s laudable vision to create a model urban village with the character and appropriate density spelled out in the General Plan. This project will set the  standard in Orange County for the redevelopment of car-oriented strip shopping into pedestrian-friendly mixed-use destinations that puts  people first.

Related Bristol is now ready for public hearings following two years of extensive community outreach, public presentations, environmental reviews and millions of dollars spent on design working with the city and its stakeholders.

So why hasn’t it happened, and what happens if this landmark proposal remains in bureaucratic limbo much longer?

The inability of the developer, Related California, and city to come to terms on the Development Agreement and the package of community benefits may now prompt Related Bristol to seek relief under the state’s Housing Accountability Act (HAA) to move the project forward from concept to actual roofs and walls.  This course of action would negate the time and investment in the community outreach and visioning process that produced this high-quality design.  Nevertheless, if the city of Santa Ana and Related California —with a track record of working collaboratively with many California cities including Santa Ana— cannot reach a development agreement, then the developer should withdraw the project and pursue entitlement approvals using the HAA.

Unfortunately, such a step could result in the elimination of key community benefits that make this project a unique destination, including the actively programmed 13.1 acres of open space, the amount and composition of the retail, and other financial contributions to the city.

Given all of the work that has been done with the community to date, it would be a grave misstep to shelve the progress that has been made to secure the community and fiscal benefits for the city and residents, and a tragic missed opportunity to approve a project that will  become the gold standard for redevelopment projects that follow.

In a state where visionary development is imperative to overcome the quagmire of government regulation, short-sighted NIMBY opposition, and well-meaning but misguided municipal leadership that entangles and impedes housing projects, Santa Ana needs to act now and advance Related Bristol for consideration and approval.

Bristol City’s relegation hammers home stark financial realities of WSL

A s the clock hit full time at Ashton Gate on Sunday evening, Bristol City finally succumbed to the inevitable . Relegation was confirmed after a 4-0 defeat to Manchester City , a final nail in the coffin in their Women’s Super League campaign. Only 371 days after achieving promotion, the Robins were condemned to the Championship to start rebuilding once again.

The table does not lie. With only one win all season – a thrilling 3-2 triumph at West Ham in November – Bristol City’s struggles have been evident. Their defensive problems, in particular, have been impossible to ignore. Context is key, however, particularly in a sport where the parameters are quickly shifting.

The odds were stacked against Lauren Smith’s side as soon as they lifted the Championship trophy in April 2023. “It was a relegation fight before we even kicked the ball,” says Smith. As one of only two teams in the WSL without the backing of a Premier League side – Leicester City are the other and they are an incomparable operation – they have had to be creative in their approach.

With a tight budget, Smith and her staff were always restricted by who they could recruit. Adding the experience of Megan Connolly and Satara Murray while retaining the services of Rachel Furness were all sensible moves. It could not be predicted, however, that two of those three, along with the long-serving forward Abi Harrison, would spend much of the season on the sidelines. The injury list has been extensive: Fran Bentley, the No 1 goalkeeper, picked up a knee problem; Kaylan Marckese and Jess Simpson were brought in on loan but soon returned to their parent clubs after suffering ACL injuries. Brooke Aspin and Naomi Layzell, stalwarts of the backline, have also been unavailable at points. When you are in a dogfight, you need luck to go your way.

The injury pile-up has meant that Smith has had to rely on her younger players. Bristol City have fielded the youngest average lineup in the division (24 years, 136 days) and given more minutes to teenagers than anyone else. While developing their academy players has been a core ethos of the club, and one that should be admired, it has been a baptism of fire. “There’s been big spells where we’ve had academy players on our bench, which is great in terms of our academy and they’re available to do it,” Smith says. “However, it’s a big gulf between academy football and the WSL and it’s a big ask.” They could add only three players in January, in a transfer window that, on reflection, should have been more of a priority.

With Bristol City’s fate sealed, the rebuild will start with a focus on the successes they have had. Off the pitch they have cultivated one of the better match-day experiences, attracting an average attendance of more than 7,000, the fifth highest in the WSL.

It is to the club’s credit that Gavin Marshall, chief executive of Bristol Sport Group, made an immediate statement of commitment to the women’s team on Sunday night. The juxtaposition between their response and Reading’s last season – the Royals were moved to a part-time model once relegation was confirmed – is stark and provides hope.

The challenge will be significant with investment only increasing. The Championship is intensely competitive and immediate success is far from guaranteed. This year’s champions, Crystal Palace, have increased the resources available to the team only over the past couple of years. How they make the step up remains to be seen, especially given the fast-track nature of their rise. But there will be less anxiety given the foundations already in place.

For Bristol City, the future is uncertain but far from disheartening, despite the growing disparity in finances. Player retention is crucial, as is continued faith in Smith, widely regarded as one of the brightest young managers around.

They are the heart of women’s football for the south-west and a beacon of their community. Their underdog status will endure. “Women’s football is at a key point,” Smith said on Sunday night. “Nobody knows what it’s going to look like in the next few years … we want to be part of that. The players, the club and I are ambitious to make sure that, just like last time, we are committed to going back up.”
