Why travel with Poseidon Expeditions?
M/V Sea Spirit – Tiny but Mighty
With a maximum capacity of just 114 passengers, we usually operate with 100 guests off the ship. It maximizes our travelers' time ashore because there is no need for splitting passengers into groups for landing rotations as required on larger ships.
A real polar expedition
Experience active exploration of the polar regions through a variety of activities. Weather permitting, we schedule up to 3 excursions per day and offer optional kayaking and, in Antarctica, camping. Enrich your polar knowledge in an engaging and interactive way through Poseidon’s edutainment program.
25 years of polar cruising
Polar cruising is our passion and expertise and over the past 24 years, we’ve gained tremendous experience building a strong team of enthusiastic polar professionals who are all experts in their field. Each cruise is a thoughtfully crafted expedition voyage.
SCORESBY SUND
Scoresby Sund is one of the largest and most beautiful fjord systems in the world. Discover its narrow passages, magnificent icebergs and sheer rock walls nestled in the untouched and remote wilderness of Greenland. Look out for musk oxen and Arctic hare in the tundra and see local Greenlandic sled dogs. Visit the historic remains of trappers and the Thule archeological sites, as well as the modern Inuit village of Ittoqqortoormiit with its museum.
NORTHERN LIGHTS
Our northern lights expedition in Greenland will give you the best chance to see aurora borealis. The clear nights at Scoresby Sund are a prime destination to see an out-of-this-world phenomenon, which you’ll remember for a lifetime. The spacious open deck of our expedition ship, the Sea Spirit, will allow for a comfortable experience and perfect photo ops.
Discover the remote west coast of Iceland off the beaten path. The rugged Westfjords and the historic fishing port Ísafjörður are a perfect blend of cultural heritage and beautiful scenery. See Kirkjufell mountain and Snæfellsjökull volcano on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and look out for seabirds and whales.
Through the Viewfinder
PHOTOGRAPHY
Vast, untouched, dramatic landscapes make Scoresby Sund one of the world’s most photogenic destinations. Our free photography program gives you the chance to learn and practice your photography skills alongside an expert photographer. On this late summer cruise in Greenland, the tundra is awash with vivid autumn color; snowcapped peaks send long shadows pivoting across shimmering fjords; the night sky is an ethereal stage upon which aurora borealis performs its otherworldly dance. At this perfect intersection of place and time, you are a rare and privileged guest in one of the world’s most enchanting places. Our expert will be available to help you make the most of the bounty in your viewfinder.
SEA KAYAK CLUB
Our optional sea kayaking program is conducted in the East Greenland portion of this voyage. This is a truly world-class paddling destination that has been experienced by very few kayakers before you. Sea Kayak Club participants in the East Greenland cruise have the opportunity to paddle in fjords amongst enormous icebergs while enjoying magnificent mountain vistas. This region also offers the possibility of kayaking in the vicinity of tidewater glaciers. Kayaking is a fun and interesting way to experience the breathtaking scenery of East Greenland. If you enjoy sea kayaking, then do not miss your chance to participate in this exciting adventure option.
What should you consider when traveling on the Northern Lights cruise?
Greenland is the best place to see the northern lights. While it is very likely, it is a natural phenomenon and we cannot guarantee that you will see Aurora Borealis during your cruise. Our large open deck aboard the Sea Spirit allows for maximum comfort while hunting for northern lights and the remote locations away from cities with light pollution will improve our chances of seeing them. Check our program for 2023 and 2024 cruises to find your optimal dates.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, you will need an emergency evacuation insurance with a minimum coverage USD 200,000 per traveler for your northern lights expedition in Greenland. We also highly recommend cancellation insurance.
How cold is the expedition?
During the time of our Arctic cruise (September), the temperature in East Greenland will be around 3°C.
Is there internet, email and telephone on board?
Yes, we have free Wi-Fi aboard our cruise ship.

About northern lights in greenland.
During our cruise in the late Arctic summer (September), the temperatures will be around 3°C during the day.
Protected from winds by their high altitude, you can find muskox, Arctic fox, mountain hares and lemmings in the Scoresby Sund area. An abundance of birds and fish can be found here as well.
Northern Lights
Iceland and Greenland are the hot spots for Aurora Borealis viewing. While winter (September to April) is the best time to see them, you can experience the northern lights up here year-round. Our cruise is perfectly timed for September (when prime viewing opportunities begin), while the temperatures are still comfortable to explore the beautiful nature of East Greenland and Iceland.

On shore, encounter colourful tundra on hikes and meet friendly Inuit locals who still practice a traditional hunting and fishing lifestyle.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a sample itinerary. The final itinerary always depends on the weather, ice conditions and wildlife behaviour. Bring a portion of flexible attitude for expedition cruising and you will have the best adventure ever!
Reykjavik, Iceland
Depending on the itinerary, you will board the vessel in Reykjavik or Akureyri (included six-hour drive from Reykjavik). It is also possible to fly from Reykjavik to Constable Point (Greenland) to board your vessel and begin your expedition.
As we cruise north across the Denmark Strait, your Expedition Team will prepare you for the adventures that await. Learn about the storied history and politics of the Arctic, its fascinating wildlife, geology, ecology and climate, and the incredible sights you will soon explore. The team will also search for the seabirds soaring around your ship, as well as the whales that frequent the waters here.
Exploring Northeast Greenland - Scoresby Sund
During your tour of Greenland’s remote northeast coast, you’ll enjoy Zodiac cruises and shore visits to several locations. We’ll also keep an eye out for grazing muskoxen, as 40 percent of the world’s muskoxen population lives in Northeast Greenland National Park. Sailing through spectacular Scoresbysund, the birthplace of many icebergs, you’ll immediately see why some say it’s the most beautiful fjord system on the planet.
Ittoqqortoormiit
At the start of the sound, Itoqqortoormiit is East Greenland’s most northerly community and boasts a blend of traditional and modern lifestyles. With clear skies, you’ll have a great opportunity to see the northern lights.
Frederiksdal and Sydkap
Sailing on, deeper into Scoresby Sund you’ll encounter massive icebergs and an ancient Thule settlement as we approach Sydkap. The scenery here is unforgettable, with towering mountain sides and hundreds of monumental icebergs playing tricks with your sense of perception.
Another place you might visit is Ella Oya, a hiker’s paradise. The area is surrounded by ice-choked waters, rugged cliffs and sky-blue icebergs. Challenge yourself with a climb to the top of the island—the views are worth it.
Disembarkation
You can again choose between sailing or flying back to Iceland. When crossing the Denmark Strait by ship, you can look for whale blows and the many seabirds that trail the ship in the ever present Arctic winds. Enjoy the time to reflect on your recent adventures, share and exchange photos, and breathe in the fresh ocean air.

Long Hikes: -
Long hikes are for groups of 24 passengers maximum, accompanied by two armed expedition staff and a Zodiac that will sail ahead to watch for polar bears along the shoreline. Passengers who join this activity should have the willingness and ability to walk at least 15 km (9 miles) in semi-rough terrain that includes shorelines, tundra, low hills, and river crossings. Walks will take around six hours from start to finish, rest times included. We will walk at a modest pace and not cross any alpine terrain. Passengers who do not take part in long walks will have a landing in the morning at the start point of the walk, then sail to the end point of the walk for their second landing in the afternoon.
Kayaking try-out: -

Sounds good? Contact us and we book you in.
Day 1: On the Iceland road
Your journey begins in the morning, where by request you can transfer via chartered bus (T) from bus stop Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre at Austurbakki, Reykjavik (the meeting point) to the ship in Akureyri (the embarkation point). You arrive in the afternoon after a six-hour drive through northern Iceland.
PLEASE NOTE: This transfer (T) must be booked and paid for in advance. In the early evening, the ship departs from the port of Akureyri, sailing north toward the Denmark Strait.
Day 2: Sailing to east Greenland
While sailing north you’re likely to see fulmars, kittiwakes, gannets, and common guillemots. You then cross the Arctic Circle, possibly spotting whales. By evening, the first icebergs flash into sight with your approach to the east Greenland coast, near Brewster.
Day 3: Arriving at Earth’s largest fjord
Today you reach Scoresbysund, sailing along the glaciated Volquart Boons Kyst. You may also enjoy a Zodiac cruise past one of the glacier fronts, along with a visit to the basalt columns and ice formations of Vikingebugt.
In the afternoon, we plan to sail by the east coast of Milne Land among a multitude of giant icebergs. If we can also land at Charcot Havn, we will make a walk to the Charcot Glacier. We will then continue by Bjørneør and sail into Øfjord.
Day 4: Colors of the cape
The goal is a Zodiac cruise near Sorte Ø, surrounded by icebergs. Their austere blue-white contrasts sharply with the sediment slopes nearby. The afternoon plan is to sail through the northern parts of Røde Fjord and into Harefjord, with the chance to see musk oxen and warm autumnal foliage.
Day 5: Enormous bergs, Arctic hares
In the morning you encounter colossal icebergs, some over 100 meters (328 feet) high and more than a kilometer (.62 mile) long. Most of them are grounded, as the fjord is only about 400 meters deep (1,312 feet). You then land near Sydkap, with fine views of Hall Bredning and a good shot of seeing Arctic hares.
Today’s long walk goes from Sydkap to Nordøstbugt (12 km, 7.5 miles to the northeast), where the river coming from Holger Danskes Briller flows into the sea. We plan to walk south along the shore to Satakajik, seeing whale vertebrae and the remains of Thule summer houses. Passengers who opt out of the long walking group will join us at this location for their second excursion of the day.
Day 6: Settlement at Scoresbysund
Today you make a tundra landing on Liverpool Land, in Hurry Inlet. The afternoon stop is Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest settlement in Scoresbysund at about five hundred inhabitants. At the post office you can buy stamps for your postcards, or just stroll around to see the sled dogs and drying skins of seals and musk oxen. In the afternoon you sail south, passing the picturesque landscapes of the Blosseville Coast.
Day 7: Remote shores
Turner Sound and Rømer Fjord grant you the opportunity to sail far inland, as they have no glacier front at the head and are not clogged with ice. In this location, you may get the opportunity to spot narwhals.
Day 8: Sea life under the northern lights
A sea day grants you the opportunity to spot whales and seabirds – and at night, the magical northern lights.
Day 9: Journey’s end at Akureyri
Every adventure, no matter how grand, must eventually come to an end. You disembark in Akureyri, where on request you can transfer ( T ) by chartered bus (a six-hour drive that you must book in advance) to the bus stop Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre at Austurbakki, Reykjavík, taking home memories that will accompany you wherever your next adventure lies.
Highlights you might experience
Venture far into the wild Arctic backcountry, exploring a variety of rugged terrain on an exhilarating hike that will give you the true expedition experience.
One of the great attractions in the Arctic are the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis.
A small settlement on Greenland’s rugged eastern coast, Ittoqqortoormiit is one of the most remote towns on the island and in the world
Røde Ø, also known as Red Island, located in the interior of Scoresbysund is a beautiful spot in Greenland that’s just perfect for admiring the white and blue beauty of passing ice bergs.
The key island of Earth’s largest fjord
They can run like the wind, see everything around them without turning their heads, and sometimes eat animals instead of leaves – all while looking this cute
Known for their voracious appetites, these Arctic birds have so much trouble walking that they take off better from the water than the land
The ice-strengthened Ortelius is thoroughly outfitted for polar exploration and, when necessary, helicopter flights.

East Greenland
Ittoqqortoormiit
Tiilerilaaq.
East Greenland is just a short flight from Iceland but its culture and landscapes are a world away. In a land dominated by the Ice Cap and impossibly steep mountain ranges, 3,500 people have made their home.
East Greenlandic culture is deeply rooted in myths and legends, often expressed in bone and rock carvings, but at the same time it is a globally connected culture with strong hunting roots and an everyday spirit of adventure.
Ice fiords, hiking, heliskiing, small settlements, northern lights, and boat rides combine to make East Greenland a year round destination, and the main town Tasiilaq also acts as the gateway for adventurers on longer climbing, kayaking, Ice Cap, and mountaineering expeditions in the rugged backcountry.
East Greenland is an isolated yet very special place. The language is different and the culture is deeply rooted in myths and legends, which is expressed in their much-coveted handicrafts.
Traditional culture and endless icebergs lie at the edge of the Ice Sheet and the Sermilik Fjord in the settlement Tiilerilaaq.
Tall mountains, perfect hiking valleys, and extreme snow hide one of the best-kept secrets of East Greenland – the small settlement of Kuummiut.
Sea ice makes this the most isolated town in Greenland, where dog sledding, expedition cruises and wildlife dominate the opportunities for adventure.
Kulusuk is the gateway to many different types of adventure-based activities for both summer and winter in East Greenland.
Tasiilaq is the largest town in Eastern Greenland and the gateway to pretty much every kind of adventure that Greenland offers.

Expedition Ships to Greenland
Travel safely and in comfort aboard our hybrid-powered expedition ships and ships modified for better sustainability. Our smaller ice-class ships allow you to experience more remote and unspoilt polar destinations, and these are the ships you’ll travel with to Greenland.
Purpose-built as an expedition cruise ship, MS Fram is an exceptional base camp for explorers. On board, comfort is a top priority, so after a day of exploration you can relax in a hot tub ,dine in your choice of two restaurants or at the outdoor BBQ and catch up with your fellow guests with a cocktail in hand as you watch the scenery glide past in the Explorer Lounge & Bar. In the Science Centre, at the heart of the ship, you’ll discover more about the places you sail to and listen to talks by the Expedition Team. With key expedition features and technology, MS Fram is primed to bring you on a journey of discovery to our planet’s most alluring and unspoiled regions.
The newest addition to our fleet will honor the heritage of her namesake – the Norwegian explorer, scientist, humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen. Known for his innovations in Arctic expeditions, Nansen led the first crossing of Greenland on cross-country skis. He is perhaps most famous for his attempt to reach the geographical North Pole during the Fram Expedition (1893-1896). Interestingly, after Nansen's Fram expedition, the ship was passed on to another great explorer who secretly planned an expedition to the South Pole - Roald Amundsen.
MS Maud, previously MS Midnatsol, is named after one of the most famous polar vessels of all time, Roald Amundsen's 'Maud' from 1917. The original 'Maud' got her name from the first Queen of modern-day Norway. She also had her namesake in Hurtigruten Expedition’s 1925 flagship, DS Dronning Maud ('DS Queen Maud'). Today, MS Maud is equipped with advanced technology that makes her exceptionally well-suited for expedition cruises in Norway and the British Isles.
MS Spitsbergen
MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewel of Arctic Norway – the Svalbard archipelago and its biggest island, Spitsbergen. Hurtigruten has a long history of travelling to Spitsbergen, beginning in 1896 with the 'Sports Route'.
Helping local communities
On a Hurtigruten Expeditions cruise to Greenland you’ll be helping to improve the lives of Greenlandic children. The Hurtigruten Foundation supports the work of local charities and development projects wherever we travel.

Why Cruise to Greenland?
Remote and still largely off the map of mainstream tourism, Greenland offers pristine wilderness, authentic culture and thrilling activities, making it an unforgettable adventure destination. Brightly colored coastal towns, skyscraper icebergs, massive glaciers, extensive fjords, vast tundra and fluffy sled dogs draw photographers and intrepid travelers from all over the world.
As the saying goes, “When you’ve seen the world, there is always Greenland.” Due to Greenland’s inhospitable Arctic terrain, lack of developed road network and the fact that it’s 80% covered by the world’s second-largest ice sheet, it’s not the easiest country to explore. That’s where the benefits of a cruise to Greenland comes in.
Greenland small ship cruises make the most of scattered settlements and remote fjords by sailing you efficiently along the coastline. In fact, of Greenland’s 60,000 inhabitants, 90% are of Indigenous descent, living in settlements up and down the coasts. Greenland is the least densely populated country on the planet, in fact, and is an independent Danish territory with its own parliament.
Depending on where you visit, you may have opportunities for hiking, kayaking, camping, mountain biking, dog sledding, rock climbing and even helicopter assisted adventures. Plus other activities like Zodiac cruising through icefields, watching for arctic wildlife and the aurora borealis, visiting fascinating historic sites and authentic Greenlandic villages.
Greenland Expedition Cruise Ships
Greenland expedition cruise ships are purpose built to explore polar regions in safety and comfort. They feature ice-strengthened hulls, sophisticated navigational equipment, small craft and sometimes even helicopters to transport guests ashore in remote locations exploring away from the ship.
Being on a Greenland expedition cruise does not mean you have to sacrifice comfort. Greenland luxury ships offer large suites, some with balconies, gourmet cuisine and five-star service to satisfy the most sophisticated tastes. View the full fleet of Arctic ships offering Greenland small ship cruises.
Greenland Cruise Itineraries & Regions
Cruises to Greenland visit three distinct regions: East Greenland, South Greenland and West Greenland. Some itineraries may highlight two or three regions, while others concentrate on a deeper exploration of one. Regions of Greenland may be part of an extended route that also include nearby Arctic islands like Svalbard and Iceland to the east, or a greater Canada and Northwest Passage itinerary to the west.
Which area will interest you the most? We take a deeper dive below to help you decide.

East Greenland
Above the Arctic circle, East Greenland is the least visited and most remote part of the island. It offers natural beauty and a surprising collection of flora and fauna. East Greenland is also one of the least populated areas in Greenland. Some communities who live in this isolated territory speak a different language and still follow an ancestral way of life living off the land.
For nine months out of the year, East Greenland is covered with snow and pack ice, so during the short summer season an ice-strengthened vessel is needed to operate here and daily cruise stops are often still guided by weather and ice conditions.
In East Greenland you will likely visit two main areas on a Greenland small ship cruise: Scoresby Sund and Northeast Greenland National Park.
Scoresby Sund is the world’s largest and deepest fjord system. Its tree-like structure branches off into a labyrinth of fjords with massive icebergs, towering basalt walls, calving glaciers and surprisingly colorful tundra. Near the mouth of Scoresby Sund is Ittoqqortoormiit, one of the most remote settlements on Earth. For most of the year, its 300 inhabitants are cut off from the rest of the country and survive by hunting and fishing. Scoresby Sund is one of the best places in the Arctic to see the northern lights as well as local wildlife.
Farther north is the world’s largest national park, the Northeast Greenland National Park . With no permanent human population, it is one of the best places to spot Greenland’s wildlife and is also an important breeding ground for polar bear and walrus. Access to the park is strictly controlled, so cruise operators must apply for separate permits to sail here.
Cruises to East Greenland typically start with an embarkation from Iceland or Svalbard . Some Arctic cruises may visit all three Arctic islands as part of a larger itinerary and range from 10-18 days or more. You can even visit East Greenland from the route of a North Pole expedition .
South Greenland
South Greenland is a maze of scenic fjords, sounds, islets and inlets. Sailing through Prins Christian Sund and Skjoldungen Sund surrounded by high iconic peaks and turquoise lakes, you’ll see why the heart of this region is known as “Arctic Patagonia.” But it’s not all icy fjords and mountain peaks. South Greenland has a uniquely warm microclimate, and its surprisingly lush and fertile coast is filled with green pastures and sheep farms. The “Garden of Greenland” is perfect for adventure experiences like hiking, kayaking, mountain bike riding, rock climbing and more. From the ruins of Brattahlíð, the estate of Viking Erik the Red, to the modern landscape of Kujataa, the UNESCO World Heritage region of southern Greenland, see historic sites with the largest and best-preserved Norse ruins, green-roofed turf houses, and a 14 th century chapel built and named for Erik the Red’s wife, Tjoldhilde.
Unless it’s part of a larger itinerary, cruises to South Greenland typically start from Narsarsuaq, south Greenland, with charter flights connecting to Reykjavik, Iceland.
West Greenland
Home to Nuuk, the nation’s charming capital, West Greenland is the island’s most developed and visited region. Colorful Inuit communities like Ilulissat, Rode Bay, Ilimanaq and Uummannaq are perched at the edge of the Greenland ice cap and carry on their timeless way of life.
A highlight of the west is cruising through Disko Bay and stopping at several fascinating landing sites. The settlement town of Ilulissat is known for having more sled dogs than people. The Ilulissat Icefjord is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is home to Jakobshavn Glacier, one of the world’s most active glaciers, dubbed “the birthplace of icebergs.”
The Baffin Sea is the body of water that lies between West Greenland and the Arctic Archipelago of Canada. It serves as the eastern entrance to the Northwest Passage, the legendary sea route that links the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Access to and from West Greenland is via the international airport in Kangerlussuaq. There are Greenland small ship cruises that focus on West Greenland only; explore both West Greenland and Arctic Canada; or use Kangerlussuaq as an embarkation point for Northwest Passage journeys.
VIEW GREENLAND CRUISES
See the full list of cruises to Greenland & other Arctic islands.
Northwest Passage Cruises
Become part of an elite club of cruisers. Greenland cruise itineraries that include the Northwest Passage explore the icy frontier above 80° north on the same route that has attracted legendary explorers for centuries.
Some operators attempt to sail the full length of the Northwest Passage. These journeys range 22-30 days long and start from Kangerlussuaq in west Greenland, cruising long Baffin Island, through the Bellot Strait, along mainland Canada’s northern shoreline and around Alaska’s Far North shoreline, ending in Nome, Alaska.
Abbreviated routes may just explore the eastern portion of the Northwest Passage, starting in West Greenland and ending in the Canadian Arctic archipelago. These itineraries are generally around 17 days.
Coastal Comparison & A Note about Wildlife
The southern, eastern and western coasts of Greenland all have their own unique experiences and features dictated by climate, wildlife, human population and geology.
The west is characterized by beautiful mountainous landscapes and abundant, brightly colored settlements. The south holds fascinating Norse history, and due to a lower human population in the east, there are slightly greater possibilities of seeing more wildlife.
Most travelers come to Greenland to experience the Inuit culture and the breathtaking natural beauty of mountains, glaciers and enormous icebergs. All are possible in any of the three regions. If wildlife is your number one priority, consider adding East Greenland and Svalbard to your itinerary if a combination of landscapes and wildlife is what you’re looking for.
Best Time for Cruises to Greenland
Most Greenland cruises operate between June and October, when most of the country’s coasts are snow-free and vegetation is thawed out. The midnight sun can be experienced in the summer between mid-April to the end of August. From the end of August through October, the aurora borealis can be viewed. In fact, our AdventureSmith experts witnessed the northern lights enroute to East Greenland during an August North Pole expedition that stopped in Scoresby Sund (pictured below). See all focused northern lights cruises to learn more.
When visiting Greenland, remember that it’s the biggest island in the world, so there are climate variations throughout the seasons, from coast to coast, and even from fjord to fjord.

Hear It From Greenland Cruise Travelers
I’m 72 and I was looking for an adventure which was different from the usual European trip of visiting endless museums, palaces, churches, etc. I don’t enjoy crowded venues, mobbed by other tourists. Greenland was not a place that every other traveler visits. This expedition gave me the opportunity to hike in places where no one had stepped foot before, in breathtaking surroundings and yet I didn’t have make any arrangements for sleeping accommodations, dining, tours, etc. AdventureSmith and Quark did it all for me, all I had to do is board the ship!
I loved this trip exploring South Greenland. We experienced so much in our time aboard and we had great weather during our trip. The scenery was stunning and varied. We spent a lot of time off the ship exploring by zodiac, on foot, paddling, and by helicopter(2x). Exploring by helicopter and making 2 landings in Greenland was an unforgettable experience.
Fascinating trip to a rarely visited part of the world on an exceptional vessel.
We had an absolutely perfect trip!! First class from beginning to end. Loved the helicopter rides and the views we were able to experience from high above Greenland. The ship was fabulous. The room was great. Spacious, considering we were on a ship. It had a large window so we could take in all of the spectacular views. The staff was wonderful. The food was excellent. We would definitely travel with Quark again.
Accommodations Review
We had an Explorer Triple which was roomy enough for three. It had lots of storage. The shower was OUTSTANDING!
Meals Review
A wonderful variety, prepared extremely well and they were able to address specific requests.
Itinerary Review
I enjoyed the ability to visit hiking sites via the helicopters. I felt like our group was possibly the first people to walk on these locations. The paddle excursion around and among icebergs was a thrill and of course, the various sites for hiking via the zodiacs was always enjoyable. Everywhere seemed to be pristine.
Transportation Review
Clear instructions regarding our Quark connections.
Fellow Passengers Review
I loved meeting my fellow passengers from around the world. Everyone was friendly and fun to be around.
Crew & Guides Review
The Expedition Leader explained considerations for the following day’s activities and she always seemed to find a work around if the weather (clouds, ice, etc) didn’t permit the “planned” days activities. She was personable, humorous and very professional. I was wowed by her ability to get things done.
AdventureSmith Explorations Review
Arielle forwarded us information in a timely manner and was available to answer our questions if they weren’t addressed in the Quark information package.

Ultramarine is the culmination of decades of expedition experience built into the perfect expedition platform. The Balcony Suite I was in was comfortable, quiet, and was in a good location to access all parts of the ship. I enjoyed the Common areas of the ship a lot, the Panorama Lounge + Espresso Station, the Bistro for Breakfast and Lunch, the ambassador theater for presentations and briefings and the massive outdoor areas for taking in the views.
I enjoyed Heli Hiking in Prince Christian Sound. We were able to get amazing 360 degree views with multiple fjords, rocky peaks, alpine lakes, and hanging glaciers. The fjords in this area are framed by glacier carved granite domes and spires with some still having glaciers around the tops and in the valleys. Landing on the ice sheet looked like you were landing on the moon with Ice as all you can see in all directions. They had expedition teams members on the ice who gave you a brief intro to the environment and a couple directions about where you could and couldn't go. The landing site they had chosen had solid ice underfoot and small creeks and pools around the immediate area where you could see the most beautiful blue colors of the ice coming through the crystal clear water above. Being on the ice sheet even for a short time was a breathtaking highlight from the trip. The Heli flight back I had a window seat and was able to take some amazing aerial shots of the ice sheet and tidewater glaciers from above on the way back to the ship.
The food aboard was excellent and the service was excellent also. I liked the option to eat at the Bistro for Breakfast and Lunch. It has a great view and is smaller and less busy than the Balena restaurant which is the main one. I think more variety could be offered at the buffets.
This trip has a variety of ability levels and ages. The expedition team did a great job of provided activities for everyone. There were some passengers I enjoyed socializing with more than others but that is to be expected in any group setting.
Ali was our expedtion leader and she was amazing throughout. We had great weather and we were able to accomplish so many activites throughout the voyage. When you think about what it takes to operate so many activities and the amount of staff and resources that takes, it is amazing what they accomplished. I enjoyed interacting with Mauricio, Colin, Nix, Alice, Emily, Juju, Clement, Gordo all from the Expedition team. There were so many aboard and they were all personable and accessible. I enjoyed talking with them at meals or in the lounge as well as on the excursions. Many of the staff had worked with Quark for 10+ years in both Arctic and Antarctica.
Be ready to be flexible and to be active. Luggage requirements for the charter flights were a challenge so plan to pack light and efficient
The vessel is luxurious, cabins and public areas first rate.
The buffet was more appealing with more choices than the restaurant which tried hard to be innovative, but missed appealing to me.
[I most enjoyed]...Seeing 13 polar bears in 6 days acting in a natural way, showing curiosity but no fear. The vastness of the sea and landscape. Riding in a dogsled. Wish we had more chances to visit land and see Arctic plants.
Be prepared to be in awe.
Steve Moir expedition leader had unlimited enthusiasm that was contagious. Naturalists Alize Fouchard, Alexandra Morozova, and Gordana Mrakovcic not only led walks but also gave excellent lectures. Ornithologist Manuel Marin was special, as was local guide Jaakusaaq Soerensen, who taught us about Inuit culture, religion, and language.
There were more English speakers on this cruise than my previous Ponant cruise. Had good interactions with a good number of them.
Andrew Browning never misses a detail in preparing me for my trips. Can’t ask for better. I recommend AdventureSmith Explorations to friends and family frequently.

First rate all the way!
Liked the wide variety at each meal. It was nice to have wine served with dinner. Deserts were fantastic. I liked the fact that you could also order items that were served daily at lunch and dinner. An example would be to get a hamburger at lunch or a grilled chicken breast at dinner. That was nice. Only thing a did not like were the cookies. They were bland.
Wow! So much beauty in Greenland! We LOVED the kayaking amid the huge icebergs. That was our favorite experience. We also LOVED the helicopter rides, especially over the ice sheet. It was jaw dropping! We enjoyed meeting some of the Greenlanders on our stops at the villages. They had a choir which performed for us. It was wonderful. I'm sure they spent a lot of time practicing. The hikes we took were all great and each one was a little different. We really enjoyed doing the Polar Plunge! It was more fun than I expected. Plus, we received a "badge" showing our Arctic Polar Plunge had been accomplished. LOVED the shot of Vodka too!
Go! The trip was even better than I expected!
Allison Gordan (Our leader) was incredible!!! She guided this cruise through unexpected weather in order that we could enjoy every aspect of this tour that we had hoped for. We were able to do everything because of her determination to give us the best trip possible. She is a wonderful speaker too. Funny, but professional. What really impressed me was that she called us by name after a couple of days on the trip. There were 3 of us together, and she got the names right every time. There were 160 guests on this ship. How does she do that?? She certainly made us feel important. Plus, she was so nice to talk to. Answered all of our questions. She was just wonderful. We also really enjoyed her father, Ian Gordan. He was funny, personable, and a true professional. Also, kudos to our Nix, our photographer. She did a great job and fun to be with. Other great staff members included Marla, Alice, Peter, Fabrece, Neil, actually everyone was super great and extremely helpful no matter what we needed.
We met so many great people from Ireland, Australia, England, South Africa, America, Canada. Some of whom I will never forget!
Everything was perfect! Arielle was fantastic. She was right there anytime we needed anything. Outstanding service and friendly too!

Holland America Line’s New 28-Day Legendary Voyage In 2025 Is An Epic Exploration Of Greenland, Iceland And The Arctic Circle
The ‘Arctic Circle Crossing’ inspired by 10th Century explorers includes four maiden calls in Greenland, a trip to the North Cape and extensive scenic cruising
Seattle, Wash., Aug. 22, 2023 — From trending travel destinations to seldom-visited locales, Holland America Line’s new 28-day “Arctic Circle Crossing: Greenland & Iceland” is a Legendary Voyage to Greenland, Iceland and Norway. Departing June 29, 2025, aboard Nieuw Statendam, the journey is inspired by the routes of Norse explorer Erik the Red who founded the first European settlement in Greenland.
Sailing roundtrip from Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the cruise features 15 ports across five countries, passage through the Arctic Circle, an overnight in Reykjavik, Iceland, scenic cruising through Iceland and Greenland’s spellbinding fjords and four maiden calls in Greenland. Cruisers on the “Arctic Circle Crossing” will set sail on one of Holland America Line’s most intensive explorations of this region ever offered.
“Legendary Voyages give us the opportunity to create longer cruises that delve deeper into a region and include ports we don’t normally visit, like the four maiden calls in Greenland on the new Arctic Circle Crossing,” said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer of Holland America Line. "We’re taking this itinerary up to Norway’s North Cape, then heading farther north in Greenland on both coasts and adding amazing opportunities in Iceland. At 28 days, it’s the perfect length to showcase this area and give our guests an experience that goes beyond a brief introduction to the countries.”
Highlights of the ‘Arctic Circle Crossing’ Legendary Voyage
- 28 days, departing June 29, 2025, roundtrip from Rotterdam.
- 15 calls in five countries (listed in order of visit): Ålesund, Trondheim, Honningsvåg (North Cape) and Tromsø, Norway; Ittoqqortoormiit (Scoresbysund), Greenland; Akureyri and Isafjördur Iceland; Nuuk (Godthåb), Sisimiut (Holsteinsborg), Ilulissat (Jakobshavn) and Nanortalik, Greenland; Reykjavik, Iceland (overnight); Stornoway (Isle of Lewis) and Invergordon (Inverness), Scotland; and Dover (London), England.
- Maiden Calls, all in Greenland: Nuuk, Ittoqqortoormiit, Sisimiut, Ilulissat.
- Crossing the Arctic Circle at several points throughout the voyage.
- Overnight call July 20 and 21 in Reykjavik.
- Scenic cruising opportunities: North Cape (Norway); Jan Mayen Island, a Norwegian volcanic island in the Arctic Ocean; Scoresbysund (Greenland); and Eyjafjördur and Ísafjardardjúr (Iceland).
What is a ‘Legendary Voyage’?
These lengthier cruises, which range from 25 to 59 days, combine the ceremony of Holland America Line’s Grand Voyages while focusing on a singular region. They visit some of the most unique ports while offering guests an in-depth exploration. Shipboard programming is specially curated to share insights into the history and culture of the destinations visited.
Legendary Voyages are offered on a variety of the line’s perfectly sized ships where guests enjoy the “best of” Grand Voyages on-board programming such as iconic theme parties, memorable sailaways and classic cruise activities to further enhance the experience.
Who is Erik the Red?
Norse explorer Erik Thorvaldsson, known as Erik the Red, was exiled from Iceland and set out to explore the land to the west, which he named Greenland. After establishing the first European settlement on an island near Qaqortoq, he returned to Iceland to bring more settlers back to Greenland. He is the father of Leif Erikson, one of the first Europeans to reach North America.

Greenland: Icelandic Coast Guard Executes High-Stakes Medical Evacuation Mission from Cruise Ship
Posted: May 15, 2024 | Last updated: May 16, 2024
Greenland - May 15, 2024 The Icelandic Coast Guard embarked on a critical mission to aid ailing passengers aboard a cruise ship navigating the frigid waters off the east coast of Greenland. Tasked with responding to the urgent medical needs of one of the passengers, the Coast Guard helicopter squad sprang into action at the behest of a doctor onboard the vessel. Amidst the remote and challenging maritime conditions, the crew of TF-EIR embarked on a lengthy flight to reach the stricken cruise ship. Traversing vast distances, the helicopter crew navigated from Reykjavik to the ship's location, approximately 130 nautical miles north of Horn. Despite the formidable obstacles posed by the elements, the operation proceeded smoothly, with the patient safely lifted aboard the helicopter and attended to under optimal conditions. Following the successful retrieval of the patient, the helicopter made a pit stop in Isafjorour to refuel before continuing its journey back to Reykjavik. Upon arrival, the patient was promptly transported to Landspitali, ensuring they received the necessary medical attention without delay.

How to Plan a Trip to Italy
By Chris Allsop
Last updated: May 18th, 2024
- Find a Cruise
There’s a lot to consider when planning a trip to Italy, one of Europe’s most irresistible destinations. Its abundance of history, culture, and spellbindingly beautiful cities mean that it’s also one of the best places to visit more than once.
As such, it’s important to carefully research how to plan a trip to Italy so your journey attains the heights that one expects of this Old World favorite. Once you’re an expert at the preparation, you can begin planning your next trip as soon as you’re home.
Here are the steps you need to plan your trip.
Consider Where You’d Like to Go
Figuring out which part of the country you’d like to visit is probably the most difficult part of traveling to Italy. From the northern top of the “boot” to its southerly pointed “toe”, the Italian peninsula is a unity of sunny Mediterranean landscapes, remarkable cities , and blissful beaches.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor to the country or are simply unsure where to go in Italy next, here’s a quick overview of the perennially popular options.
Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre
From the north, the Italian Riviera is a mountain-backed swathe of pastel-colored seaside resorts. Part of the Italian region of Liguria, headline destinations here include Portofino and the Cinque Terre. Besides these picturesque fishing villages, Liguria is also home to gems such as its capital Genoa, home to Europe’s largest medieval center.
It’s (almost) always sunny in Liguria , so this region is superb for beach vacations, soaking up the Italian way of life, or dining al fresco on supersized red shrimp.
Journey south along the west coast and you quickly arrive in Tuscany. While, like Liguria, Tuscany is blessed with a wonderful coastline (only with more sand), this region is better known for its hinterland. There you’ll find rolling hills, Chianti vines, and stunning medieval cities such as Florence , Pisa, and Siena.
If you’re interested in Italian culture, Tuscany is second only to Rome in this regard.
Florence is a must for Italophiles, the cradle of the Renaissance, with the famous Uffizi Gallery and even public squares like Piazza della Signora home to world-famous sculptures such as a replica of Michelangelo’s David (head to the Accademia Gallery to see the original).
Travel south and you arrive in Lazio, the region that’s home to Rome , the country’s capital. An astonishing intersection of ancient history, religion, cuisine, and culture, a visit to the Eternal City is a bucket list adventure. Come for the Vatican, stay for the wine bar aperitivi .
Restaurant in Naples
Naples to the south of Rome is one of the best food cities in Italy . The home of pizza, this charismatic southern city throbs with life, its eponymous bay overlooked by looming Mount Vesuvius.
The best views of the volcano are probably found on the southern edge of the Gulf of Naples, from beneath the prolific lemon trees of Sorrento . Perched on cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea, this gloriously handsome town has been a popular seaside holiday destination since Roman times.
Amalfi Town
Take a winding coastal road a short distance south of the Sorrentine Peninsula and you arrive at the iconic architecture of the Amalfi Coast .
This famous run of punchbowl-bright seaside towns acts as colorful ornamentation for some of Italy’s most spectacular coastal scenery. A place to see and be seen, it’s an epicenter for fashionistas, and the region’s famous for its handmade leather sandals and ceramics.
Palermo, Sicily
Across the cerulean Tyrrhenian Sea rise the mountainous profiles of Sicily and Sardinia. Both islands are officially part of the Italian state, yet both are truly unique destinations. Each has a multi-layered history, social idiosyncrasies, and Italian cuisine inflected with flavors that speak to their intriguing past.
Cross the Apennine spine of the mainland, and you’ll reach Italy’s eastern Adriatic coastline. Highlights here include the grand café culture of the northern port of Trieste, the sun-bleached quays of southerly Brindisi, and, in between, Italy’s most romantic place : Venice.
Choose Your Route
It is possible to see a number of Italy’s top-tier destinations in a short space of time. Many of its major cities and cultural sights are clustered relatively closely together in the adjoining regions of Lazio (Rome), Tuscany (Florence, Pisa), and Campania ( Naples , Amalfi Coast).
Beware of burnout, however. So great is this country’s store of lifelike sculptures, mosaic-filled cathedrals, and legendary pizza places that saturation by the sublime is a real risk.
If you’re planning a multi-destination trip, don’t feel you have to choose two places with similar qualities such as cultural big hitters Rome and Florence on the same visit. You could even save one for the next trip, and travel to a city like Venice instead, where you have time to process what you’ve seen in Florence while sipping prosecco on a relaxing gondola ride.
Restaurant in Sorrento
Try to marry up a cultural city visit with a period in somewhere more laid-back like Liguria or Sorrento, where you can, at your own pace, absorb the unique charms of the Italian coastal town experience.
Above all else, Italy’s people are its greatest treasure. It’s tempting to rush from place to place ticking off immortal landmarks, but it’s the chic, scooter-gunning mortals surrounding you that make Italy what it is. Ensure you’re making time for the kind of encounters that transform a good trip into a story you never tire of telling.
Plan When to Go
This southern European country languidly stretches from the Alps towards the center of the Mediterranean. So while the mountains cradling Lake Como and even the country’s central Apennine range often see snow in the winter, Italy mostly enjoys a moderate and mild Mediterranean climate. Of course, this becomes warmer the further south you travel.
In early spring, however, the weather can be overcast. For your surest bet of sunshine filtering through blooming wisteria and onto your al fresco breakfast, travel from May onwards.
From the sun loungers on the Genoese quayside to the coastal archaeological parks of Agrigento in southern Sicily , May offers warmth and the sensory explosion of Italy’s flora. Medieval walls billow with bougainvillea and high street flower boxes glow with marigolds in fragrant blossom.
May also offers the possibilities of fewer crowds in the cities, prior to the start of the high season in June. And while mosquitoes aren’t a major issue, they are more prevalent during summer in Italy .
Once summer fully kicks in, Italy is at its most fully realized. The sunlight illuminates Sardinian shallows the green of cats’ eyes, bounces off the majolica-tiled domes of the Amalfi, and shines up the chrome of parked Vespas in Trastevere . In the evening, the warmth lingers into the small hours.
June and July are perfect months for an Italian beach vacation, although the main beaches will be busy. The situation gets even more crowded during August when the entire country goes on vacation. The Italians, escaping the sweltering inland heat, migrate to the limpid breakers of the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas.
Even as late into fall, the weather remains reliably pleasant. During this shoulder season, as autumn begins to color the Sangiovese vine leaves of Tuscany, trattoria menus embrace truffle season. It’s an excellent time to journey out into the countryside, as fall is also one of Italy’s festival high seasons.
Piazza Navona, Rome
You’ll find towns hung with pennants, celebrating the locality’s medieval heritage. Traditional games are played in piazzas, the townspeople march in costume blowing long fairytale trumpets, and a good deal of aromatic black truffle is shaved onto melt-in-your-mouth pasta.
Think About Extending Your Stay
Aix-en-Provence, France
The pros of Italy’s mid-Mediterranean positioning aren’t just connected to the blissful climate.
While considering how to plan a trip to Italy, be sure to spread out your map and examine which countries are close by. You’ll see how thinking about how to plan a trip to Italy can easily blossom into considering how to plan a trip for a multi-destination Old World extravaganza.
Bordering Liguria to the west is France. Hop across the border and you quickly arrive in Provence and the French Riviera. A destination of timeless glamor and allure, this coastline is a mix of flower-filled medieval hill towns like Èze and glitzy coastal spots like Cannes and San Tropez.
Calanques National Park, France
Go west again and you arrive amid the crystalline waters of the Calanques National Park and Marseilles, France’s engaging second city.
Or look south. A short boat ride from Brindisi and you arrive among the whitewashed villages of the Greek archipelago. Isles of myth and magnificent meals on the quayside, an island-hopping odyssey here is not to be missed.
Journey a little further east again, and Turkey’s honey-colored beaches and elegant minarets come into view.
If you’re visiting Venice or Trieste , it’s a quick journey across the Adriatic to neighboring Croatia. There you’ll find sun-kissed islands like Hvar, fortified medieval towns such as Dubrovnik, and an archipelago of serene unspoiled islands.
Make Sure Italy Is For You
La Sorgente Farm, Sorrento
When considering how to plan a trip to Italy, consider why you’re going. What do you want out of your experience? It’s such a varied destination that it’s hard not to find some part of this spectacular country that’ll be a good fit.
Whether you like a vacation in the great outdoors, a cultural pilgrimage, or a laid-back beach holiday, the Bel Paese has you covered.
It’s also wonderful for families. If you’re traveling with picky eaters, Italy generally doesn’t offer the dinnertime hurdles offered by countries with less familiar cuisine. Additionally, Italians, as a rule, tend to dote on the younger generation. Traveling with younger children can see you mobbed by twinkly-eyed nonnas (grandmothers).
If you’re concerned about the language, you’ll usually find that most Italians have a good working knowledge of English. Hopefully, you’ll feel brave enough to try a few phrases of your own, and the locals are usually encouraging and appreciative of such efforts.

Time to Pack
Italy’s Mediterranean climate means that you’ll want to have plenty of breathable fabrics in your wardrobe. That’ll ensure your comfort as you’re navigating Rome’s centro storico, especially in the warmth of the summertime.
In the shoulder seasons, pack another layer for the evenings. If you’re traveling in the summer, a sun hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and bug spray are all helpful inclusions in your suitcase.
Piazza del Plebiscito, Naples
Comfortable shoes with good grips are important. The timeworn cobbles and flagstones of somewhere like Naples’ Spanish Quarter can be slippery even if there’s only a hint of rain.
When visiting the cosmopolitan cities, there’s scope for the full range of your wardrobe amid the Italian love for fashion and color. Pull out the garments that you always loved but never felt that you had the right occasion to put them on for. This is the occasion. When thinking sartorially about how to plan a trip to Italy, put your best and boldest foot forward.
Cultural Considerations
Navigating Italy’s cultural nuances is a fairly straightforward business. However, if you’re visiting more traditional areas of the countryside, it’s important to be sensitive to the more conservative outlooks that can be found in the smaller communities.
To that end, if you can dress more modestly while exploring small villages then it’s respectful to do so. Think shirts with sleeves and long pants for men, and trousers, below-knee skirts, and covered shoulders for women. These kinds of outfits are appreciated by locals when you step in to see the 1,000-year-old frescos ornamenting their local places of worship.
Vatican City
That dress code is even more emphasized at the illustrious entrance to the Vatican in Rome. Admittance will only be granted if you’re wearing clothes deemed fit for the Catholic holy site, so be sure to check for the requirements ahead of your visit.
Italians strive for a concept called bella figura , which is more than just looking elegant. It’s about a bigger picture of a person who shows self-respect, decency, good manners, and a positive attitude as well as taking care of their appearance.
Prepare Yourself for Not Wanting to Return Home
Vernazza, Cinque Terre
Before planning a trip to Italy, it’s probably a worthwhile exercise to jot down a quick list of what responsibilities you’ll be leaving at home and that you absolutely must return to. This is because life in Italy, on the right evening, with Spritz in hand, can seem like the absolute ideal.
The lifestyle in this fascinating country, from toes-in-the-sand dining to diving from the rocks in the Cinque Terre is alluring. It’s not unknown for visitors to be so enchanted by the Italian stile di vita that they simply stay.
Your face and heart will be warmed by the balmy weather and friendly locals, and you’ll quickly join in with social traditions such as the passeggiata . Italy remains a favorite destination for idly dreaming of a full-life transfer to its pasta-rich shores, which is why it’s important to know how to plan a trip to Italy so a swift return is a piece of torta .

Dueling Pianos℠
You've heard of piano bars, but few come close to Dueling Pianos℠ onboard Icon of the Seas℠. At this always lively juke joint, talented master pianists battle it out on two baby grands while guests sing along and sip ice-cold beers, wines and cocktails. Request your favorite ballad or croon along to the crowd's favorites. From Billy Joel to Barry Manilow and The Beatles, get ready for all kinds of iconic hits and timeless melodies.
Lou's Jazz 'n Blues℠
Inspired by the intimate lounges of New York City, New Orleans and Chicago, Lou's Jazz 'n Blues℠ is the perfect place for couples to spend a romantic evening together while enjoying a chill nightcap. Headliners here move from soulful jazz-pop to big band and everything in between, playing odes to musical legends from across the decades. Grab a table indoors or on the terrace and order classic cocktails as the musicians wow you.
Rye & Bean℠
Espresso martinis might be having a moment, but Rye & Bean℠ didn't stop there when curating its expansive menu of coffee-infused concoctions. Stop in for a late-night pick-me-up and stay for the super-cool ambiance — a unique blend between a cozy coffee shop and a hip, local bar. It's a prime spot to wrap up a day of awesome cruise activities and fuel up for a fun-filled night.
The Overlook℠ & The Overlook℠ Pods
Craving an evening that's all about the views? Head on over to The Overlook℠. This swank lounge offers ocean vistas from floor-to-ceiling windows. If you bring your besties, you can gather 'round classic board games while catchy beats pump through the speakers. This is the stuff vacation memories are made of.
Fill your evening onboard with plenty of laughs during a visit to The Attic, the ship's adults-only comedy club. One of the top cruise ship nightlife options onboard, the club hosts a raucous lineup of jokesters specializing in everything from slapstick to skit comedy — each more hilarious than the last.
You don't have to go shoreside to enjoy a world-class concert. Icon of the Seas℠ is home to Music Hall, a sprawling venue that hosts a rotating list of cover bands. From disco hits to punk ballads, every night's a different sonic adventure here — and there's a good chance you'll end up on the dance floor.
1400℠ Lobby Bar
A vintage aesthetic meets modern chic at 1400℠ Lobby Bar, an upscale hangout with indoor and terrace seating that delivers wow-worthy sea views. It's the first time the Royal Promenade has ever opened to the outdoors on anyof our ships, and this bar is sure to leave a lasting impression. The cocktails here are also exceptional; each has been developed with world-renowned mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim.
Trellis Bar is the place to kick off your evening as one of the most charming options for drinks and bites onboard Icon of the Seas℠. Stop in for pre-dinner appetizers that look as beautiful as they taste, paired with cocktails and wines. The surroundings are as impressive as the food, thanks to the thousands of tropical plants and lush living walls that encircle Central Park®.
You don't need to be celebrating something to crave a glass of bubbly. Located in the buzzing heart of Central Park®, Bubbles℠ is a walk-up Champagne bar serving fizzy favorites by the glass or bottle. Swing by in the morning to start your day with a mimosa, then raise an evening flute to a day well spent. This bar is another ideal option for couples looking to toast an incredible cruise. Don't forget to snap a shot of the trickling Champagne tower.
If you came to show off your steps, there's no place onboard like Boleros. The six-piece band at this vibrant, Latin-themed club keeps the samba, salsa, merengue and bachata beats going until the early morning hours. The bartenders keep step, making sure the Cuban mojitos and Brazilian caipirinhas stay flowing.
It's all about the singalong at this nautical-themed venue, where the soundtrack is set by a talented pianist who's always down to take requests. Order up a frosty pint, settle in beneath the mast and get ready to raise a glass to one heartwarming ballad after another.
Point & Feather℠
Point & Feather℠ is a snug English pub onboard Icon of the Seas℠ where you can enjoy a diverse variety of brews while aiming for the bullseye in a round of darts. Keep an ear out for live music; this inviting watering hole regularly hosts live guitarists. The pub is a fitting option for those looking for more easygoing nightlife entertainment.
Spotlight℠ Karaoke
One of the best cruise ship nightlife options onboard Icon of the Seas℠ is Spotlight℠ Karaoke . Choose from thousands of popular songs and belt them out in front of a live audience. Or reserve your own room for a private singalong party with your crew. Need some liquid courage? Grab something to quench your thirst from the onsite bar before your big break.
The shimmering AquaDome℠ perched at the top of Icon of the Seas℠ unlocks a world of sensory discovery. At this next-level venue, athletes dazzle with spellbinding stunts beneath a shapeshifting waterfall as you sip delicious craft cocktails paired with unique culinary creations.

With so many thrilling experiences onboard, leveling up every night of your cruise getaway is easy. Pro tip: make a game plan ahead of your sailing to maximize your time once the sun goes down. And make sure you save some energy each day for whirls on the dance floor, karaoke sessions and late-night cocktail hours.
