Day 1: Transfer to Darjeeling.

Our representative will meet you upon arrival at Bagdogra airport. He or she will ensure that you are taken to our office, where you will get the mandatory check-in information and your trip begins.

Your arrival time will determine the schedules for the day, but in general if you are able to arrive early, we will continue our transfer to Darjeeling with some on-road sightseeing en route to Darjeeling. Our itinerary will include the Dow Hill Eco Park & Deer Park, Kurseong View Point, Hunaman Tok, and Margret Deck where we can sip a cup of freshly brewed Darjeeling Tea.

You will be escorted to a 3/4 star Hotel in Darjeeling upon your arrival. In the evening, enjoyed strolling around Chowrasta and enjoying the misty weather in the Queen of The Hills lighted up with joy.

Day 2: Darjeeling 5-Points Sightseen

Point 1: Tiger Hill - Upon waking up early in the morning at around 4:20 am our partner driver will be ready to pick you up right outside your hotel, as early in the morning is the best time to avoid traffic jams and secure a good spot to enjoy the sunrise on Tiger Hill .

Point 2: Batsia War Memorial - After that for our next point, we will stop at the Batsia War Memorial which is engineering marvel where the famous Toy Train of Darjeeling makes a double spiral loop to overcome a drop of 1000ft.

One also gets a great view of Darjeeling city sitting on top of the hills from Batsia Loop, a place known for being very photogenic where visitors love to try out Traditional Nepali Attire that is available for rental and capture the moments lived in a picture, that will bring nothing but a smile to their faces at the end of their trip.

One can also enjoy bino-sightseen of all the important places in Darjeeling at Batsia, and spend some time shopping for traditional items, sweaters, and decorations there at very reasonable prices offered by hawkers there.

Point 3: Rock Garden - There is a barbotey rock garden in Darjeeling that is the deepest place a person can visit when they are there which descends several thousand feet. It is also known as Darjeeling's picnic spot and is a very scenic spot with a still stream of water flowing over rocks and seating areas nearby to put your feet up for an hour or two.

Point 4: Darjeeling Ropeway - At Singamari, 3.4kms from the main town, one can take the famous Darjeeling Ropeway (a 40 minute up and down ride costs 220*/head). One can enjoy a scenic ride on the ropeway while taking in the views of the picturesque Rangeet river, tea estates, and the Himalayan ranges, including Kanchenjunga.

The visitor can visit the Tea Factory and also stroll around the garden there or take a short trek downwards; however, due to lack of time it is recommended to take the ride only as during high seasons there may be a long queue.

Point 5: Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoo & Natural History Meseum Darjeeling - Combining entrance tickets to these three spots will allow one to have an excellent experience of these destinations all at once. The zoo has high altitude animals like the Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bear, Tibetan Wolf, while the museum provides indepth information on wildlife and landscapes of Darjeeling.

On the other hand HMI houses the remains of an eagle that died 26,000 feet during the Everst expedition in 1960, as well as Tenzing Norway's personal belongings.

Note: In the event that some more time remains after covering all these sites, you will be taken to the Lebong View Point where you can enjoy scenic views of the Tea Estate while sipping a freshly brewed tea at Lebong.

Day 3: Drop-off to Siliguri Via Mirik.

A small stop will be made at the Simana-Nepal Indo Border, which is a small lookout point that provides a beautiful view of the hills which are a part of Nepal, after which we will directly proceed to Mirik, where you can spend some time boating, horseback riding, or walking on the lakeshore.

In a few hours, we'll move on to our final destination and board our train/flight on time. As a final stoppage, we will make a short stop near Tingling View Point, which would be a fitting end to our beautiful Darjeeling Trips with Darjeeling Trips.

Newcastle’s post-season trip to Australia ‘not ideal’ for England Euro 2024 preparation – Kieran Trippier

Kieran Trippier has admitted that Newcastle United ’s post-season trip to Australia is “not ideal” preparation ahead of England ’s participation at this summer’s European Championship .

Trippier, 33, and his Newcastle team-mates will head to Australia immediately after their final Premier League fixture away to Brentford on Sunday.

They play Tottenham Hotspur at Melbourne Cricket Ground next Wednesday and an A-League All Star side at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium two days later.

In football terms, there is little logic in Newcastle traveling so far for friendly fixtures after a draining season which has been scarred by injuries.

As head coach Eddie Howe has already said: “Being honest, in my position, this is something from a physical perspective after a long season that we probably wouldn’t want to do.”

Yet Newcastle, who were unable to sign anybody in January because of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), view their brief stay in Australia as an opportunity to boost their branding and, in time, their marketing and commercial income.

The concern for Trippier and his fellow international players is that it leaves little time for rest and recovery ahead of the European Championship. England also have friendly fixtures against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3 and Iceland on June 7.

One of those nights threatens to become one of those seasons for Newcastle

“My expression says it all!” Trippier said with a wry smile. “It’s not ideal because it’s a tournament year. I understand why the club are doing it. I’ve done it at Tottenham (Hotspur) and (Atletico) Madrid but from my own experience of it – in a tournament year it’s not ideal.

“But we’re players, we’ve got to do what’s right for the club, for the club to move forward. When we’re there it’ll be good, we’ll embrace it and experience it. Hopefully it goes smoothly.

“Tottenham are doing it. But it’s one of those where you have just got to get on with it. But of course for me as a player it’s not really ideal. It’s not like it’s Benidorm round the corner, it’s 25 hours away. There’s no excuses or anything, I understand why the club are doing it and we’ve just got to get on with it.”

Trippier, who has been suffering from a calf injury, made his first start for Newcastle since early March during their 3-2 defeat at Manchester United . He is not concerned, however, that his absence might jeopardise his involvement in the Euros.

“I’m good. The medical team at England are always in contact with Newcastle’s team, not just about me, about other players as well,” the 33-year-old said prior to the game at Old Trafford. “I’m fit. England know that.”

England kick-off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 16.

Head coach Gareth Southgate will name his preliminary squad for the tournament on May 21.

Gen Z disconnect from tech to get back to nature on a five-day, phone-free camping and kayaking trip

Kai Humphrey, 17, admits to spending most of his time in front of a screen. 

The secondary student from Bendigo in regional Victoria says he's on his computer up to five hours a night doing homework and gaming, and eight hours a day on his phone.

"My headphones are practically fused to my head."

It's this acclimation to technology and disconnection from nature that sparked the idea for a competition by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (NC CMA) to find a couple of Gen Zers to "unplug" from technology and spend five days kayaking and camping along the Bendigo Creek.

And in classic selfie style, the trip will be filmed on GoPros by the two chosen Gen Zers, with a documentary crew in tow, so it can all be shared and liked on YouTube.

The challenges ahead

After handing over their phones, the next challenge is the creek itself.

Bendigo Creek emerges from Big Hill near Crusoe Reservoir, winding right through the middle of Bendigo, and then squiggles its way north to join up with Mount Hope Creek, ending at Kow Swamp near Gunbower.

Parts of it are highly urbanised, looking more like a big concrete and bluestone drain in Bendigo's CBD, while other parts run through suburbs, farmland, recreational riverside parks, swampy marsh, and managed national parklands.

You can't kayak the entire length like you might its northern neighbour, the Murray River.

That was a bit of a surprise for Kai and fellow Gen Z traveller, 21-year-old university student Jessie Manuelyan, when they learned how to kayak a few days before their trip.

"So, we'll be hiking a bit. I'm good at hiking. I think kayaking is where I'm going to struggle, but I'm excited," she says.

Both have camped before, but Kai says he's actively avoided it ever since.

"I reckon there were maybe one or two camps and I absolutely despised it," he says.

"I like the comfort of my room and being into the more suburban street life."

Jessie is a self-confessed Candy Crush fanatic from Melbourne, currently at level 6,000 on the popular tile-matching video game with 16,640 levels, and always has her phone within reach.

She also spends a great deal of time online for her nursing and business administration studies, but she jumped at the chance to unplug for five days and experience more of the great outdoors than just beachside holidays.

"I never thought I would do anything like this, and when I saw the opportunity, I had to take it."

The only concern for Jessie, who did outdoor education in high school, is encountering wildlife.

"I'm just afraid about the snakes … bugs, spiders and snakes. Yeah, we'll have to tackle that when we get to it."

Unplugging from technology

Brad Drust from the NC CMA is keen to include more of this untapped generation's voice in local environmental work.

The CEO says, as an organisation, it has found the voices of young people often aren't as loud as they should be, "given their stake in the future".

"There's a saying that we don't inherit the earth, we borrow it from our children and, while these Gen Zers aren't exactly children, they've got a big stake in the future of our natural environment."

"So, this is about getting Gen Zers off their devices," Brad says.

"Good things come from disconnecting and getting into nature, all the wellbeing benefits that we know about, but also good things for the community more broadly as they then take up a louder voice in the management of our natural environment."

Brad is hopeful that posting videos of the journey on social media will help build a profile in that Gen Z cohort.

"Getting them connected to the work that we do, and the opportunities, they've got to have a voice in the work that we do," he says.

Five days up a creek with paddles

To begin the journey, Jessie and Kai were welcomed to country by local Djaara man Jason Kerr who shared with them the significance of the creek and surrounding landscape to the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

A traditional smoking ceremony cleansed any bad spirits, the smoldering native leaves clearing the way ahead for the adventurers and also connecting them to their new surroundings.

Along the way, they tested the water quality and planted trees with primary school students at Huntly just north of Bendigo, where the creek starts to revert to a more natural state, and learned about bush tucker and bush medicine at a significant cultural heritage site by one of the area's traditional owners.

They were attacked by bugs, slipped in mud along the creek edges, it rained for their last two days, and they had to wheel their kayaks almost as much as they paddled in them, but they came out of the experience all smiles.

"From pulling the kayaks to climbing over trees, all the tears, spiders, animals, falling down in water, being lost in the dark, and then just yelling at each other … it's been phenomenal," they laugh.

While Jessie admits to screaming at every spider they encountered for the first two days, she was far more "chilled" about them at the end of the trip.

"Orb spiders, I saw probably 5 billion of them. I was like, it's just making its web. It's over there in the corner. It's doing its little thing."

But did they miss their phones?

"I really struggled. I was looking for it in my pocket all the time … but also missing that social contact with friends and family," Jessie reflects.

"It was really weird for the first couple of days, not calling my mum, not speaking to my partner, not speaking to my friends … it was really hard getting used to that the first couple of days."

Kai agrees everything was tough for the first few days, but his attitude has definitely changed.

"Sitting there and watching a meteorite go across the sky, [with] no light pollution at all, I was like, 'I don't need a phone' to capture this, this is a moment for me.

"I don't feel like I've ever been so peaceful with myself."

Jessie recommends everyone, not just Gen Zers, should unplug every now and again.

"I've really been connecting with the outdoors for the past couple of days, and you really don't need your phone as much as you think."
