Our email program is simple: Just tell us the zip code where you live, and how far in any direction you’re willing to drive (30, 60, 90 or 120 miles), and then every Monday and Friday, we’ll send you a list of the events within that radius. Even if they’re in another state.

2024 Maine Classic Car Show Cruise-Ins

Hello Car People! We’re off to an early hopeful start for 2024. It’s still a bit early to update this so this is all still info from 2023 but by April we’ll start to get some confirmation. By all means, please let us know about a regular public car gathering if it’s not on this list. I am occasionally surprised to hear about one I haven’t ever heard of after 15 years of managing this calender.

Listed by weeklies and monthlies — start and end dates & times as available. Please, please, please — help us keep this list current and accurate — if you KNOW of any changes, additions or cancellations, please let us know by email to [email protected]  or by phone to 207-233-9970. Portland Motor Club prides itself on having a list you can count on of what’s going on in the car world in our car state. We actually call or try to contact every location if we are unsure of their show or cruise-in status. Thanks for your help. A clean list is a happy list!

Any other regular summer destination ideas for a cruise? Please send us an email and hopefully we’ll include your suggestion.

Most of these weekly or regular events do return each year — you can reach out to confirm for yourself. We’re working on the annual car shows for now — check back mid-May for confirmation of the Portland Motor Club 2024 Car Cruise-in Calendar

What Is The Difference Between A Car Show And A Cruise-In?

cruise car meet

Car gatherings are a fun pastime experience that is a hobby for many. You see many different kinds of people with varying tastes and preferences in vehicles. They’re a great place to socialize with other people who appreciate the beauty of cars. But often times, you see on a flyer or an announcement that a certain car gathering is called either a “car show” or “cruise-in.” Many people wonder if there’s a difference at all between the two.

So, what is the difference between a car show and a cruise-in? Car shows are more formal and commonly require a fee for everyone involved. There are usually prizes as well as vendors, food, music and swap-meets. Cruise-ins are a lot less formal and mostly entail a smaller group of people gathering at a park or parking lot for a few hours with no fee involved.

It’s very common and quite easy to get confused between car shows and cruise-ins, but they essentially have the same goal in that they let people show off their classic car and let people share a common appreciation for such beautiful machines. I have attended hundreds of car shows, had several of my classic cars in car shows and cruise-ins, and have helped organize several shows. There’s a lot more to them than just their names.

What You Do At Car Shows and Cruise-Ins

Car shows are an excellent way to show off your ride. They’re also a great way to look at some beautiful cars and admire/day dream if you don’t happen to have a classic car for yourself.

Car shows can end up having thousands of people attending them, all entailing men, women, young, and old people alike. There’s usually something for everyone to keep busy at a car show. A lot of car shows have swap-meets with more than just car parts and paraphernalia, but also clothes, jewelry, sunglasses, etc. With the live music you usually hear at car shows, you can take your mind back in time as you look at machines that make you feel like you’re somewhere thirty years ago.

Car shows will often have several food vendors for you to choose from if you find yourself getting hungry. There are also also lots of treats to eat to make yourself or the littles happy. A lot of car shows also have a voting poll, letting spectators vote on their favorite cars per category. A car show can last for several days and at the end of the car show, judges will announce the winners from spectators’ votes and/or do a raffle and give out sought-after prizes.

Though cruise-ins aren’t as formal and may not have as many amenities as car shows, you still have a chance for having a wonderful time. Sometimes all the organization of a car show can be a bit stressful, so many prefer the low-key feel of a cruise-in. Anyone can walk in and out of the area as they please and admire the beautiful cars people have brought to show off.

There is still a chance for judging and prizes, though the prizes may not be as big or expensive as those at a car show. Cruise-ins usually only last for a few hours, commonly in the morning or in the evening. It’s a great way for classic car owners to admire each others’ cars and network about where to get car parts, reliable auto shops, and who to talk to if they’re interested in buying/selling.

Which Cars Are Eligible For Car Shows and Cruise-Ins

Really any car that is potentially interesting to look at is eligible for a car show or cruise-in. There are no specific standards as to what is and is not eligible to bring to shows like these. Car shows, however, may put a stop to people bringing in their 2007 Ford Fusion (just as an example) or other standard cars you can see in any other parking lot.

Old cars, brand new cars, souped-up cars, anything that could potentially be exciting for viewers to see are great for car gatherings. Sometimes cruise-ins and car shows will be for a specific make and model, so be sure to visit the car gathering’s website or read their flyer to make sure.

For car shows, you’ll usually need to pay a fee, probably between $10-$30, to register your car. Car shows will often have registrants and spectators pay a fee to compensate the employees and all the work that was put into organizing the show.

What To Bring To A Car Show or Cruise-In

If you are someone who is bringing a car to display at a car show or a cruise-in, there are a few things you can bring to make your experience as well as the audience’s experience more pleasurable.

The first item on your list you should bring is some cleaning supplies for your car. You want to make your car nice and shiny for people who are looking at it, but you still need to drive your classic car from your house to the show which will usually get your car a little dirty. Bring some lint-free micro fiber towels as well as some wax and some Windex so you can do a few spot cleans once you get your car parked. It’s also nice to bring some tire shine to give your tires that brand-new look.

If you are bringing a car to display, it’s also a good idea to bring a camping chair to sit in, some cold drinks, and some photos or a photo album of your car’s rebuilding process if you have them. People love seeing the process of an old rust bucket being brought back to life.

If you are a spectator, there are still a few things you should plan on bringing. Always bring cash with you. A lot of car shows won’t accept credit cards or checks, so cash would be your best bet. Contact the show organizer to see exactly how much it will be when you arrive. Also bring some extra cash in case you want to buy a treat or a meal; sometimes vendors don’t have credit card machines either.

It’s also a good idea to bring a lot of water with you if you plan on walking around looking at cars. Car shows and cruise-ins are usually held in the summer so it gets really hot. Apply sunscreen as well because you will definitely get sunburned if you don’t. If possible, wear sunglasses and a hat and wear the appropriate clothing to keep you cool; in other words, don’t wear a sweater and jeans.

How To Organize Your Own Car Show or Cruise-In

If you wish to organize your own car show or cruise-in, there are a few easy steps you can take to meet your goal. A lot of the steps depend on how big your want your show to be and how much time and money you’re willing to invest.

Planning a cruise-in won’t be as time consuming as planning a car show. First, you’ll need to pick a day for the cruise-in. Pick a time of year that is weather appropriate. Also try to find a day where there aren’t a lot of other activities going on around town that could lessen your audience.

Once you pick a day, find other people to help you out with organizing it. Make some flyers and post them on Facebook and around town. You can even make a free website from places such as Wix so people have a place to go to for more information. Most of your time should be spent advertising the cruise-in so you have as many attendees as possible.

Planning a car show is a little more demanding than planning a cruise-in. Consider all the steps recommended for planning a cruise-in in addition to networking and finding vendors as well as sponsors to help fund the car show. Calculate the price you will need to charge to car registrants and from spectators.

First Car Meet: 23 Dos And Don'ts

Sticking to these car meet rules is crucial to making the most out of these events that every gearhead lives for.

Car meets are the glue of the local automotive community . They are a wonderful place where like-minded people gather to discuss what they share in common, a fervent passion for everything automotive. Whether it is your first meet, or you're a seasoned veteran, car meets are a fantastic way of gauging the pulse of your city’s local car culture.

Updated April 2022: Every car enthusiast remembers their first car meet. These events are the hallmark of spring and summer, and in order for you to make the best of them, we've updated this list with more car meet dos and don'ts every gearhead should follow.

Not only that, but car meets are often the birthplace of car enthusiasts . They are often the first real memory an enthusiast has of loving cars. Car meets also help expose people to new genres of car they would not otherwise be exposed to. Where else can you find a heavily modified Mustang GT, sitting across the way from a Pagani Huayra?

That being said, if you are planning on attending a local meet soon, it is important to know what to do and what not to do, as established by long-held traditions and common sense. It is also important to know the things you should absolutely steer clear of doing. That is due to the fact that not all is perfect in the world of car meets. Because just like everything else in the world, they are often ruined by jerks. Jerks that do wildly stupid, reckless things that can quickly shut a meet down, or worse, actually hurt someone.

So, if there is a car meet looming on your schedule, or you plan ongoing in the future, read this list of 11 car meet dos and 12 definite don’ts.

23 Do: Ask Questions

Looking like a total noob will happen at your first car meet. From where to start, to what kind of car is that, you will have a million questions , and it's important to ask away. You will never learn anything new about any of the cars in question, and you might end up lost and looking at cars of spectators and not show cars.

Asking questions will also open the door to new friendships or conversations that you may never have had before. Finally, asking questions can help inspire your own car build. Learning about new parts, methods of installation, or even an entirely new model you never thought of before. Don't be quiet, and do ask plenty of questions during your first car meet.

22 Do: Show Up Early

It is absolutely essentially if you plan on having an enjoyable time at any car meet you attend, to arrive early to the meet and comfortably secure you spot. Depending on the specific type of meet, whether Cars and Coffee, Caffeine and Octane, or some other flavor of car meet, they are often jam-packed with eager attendees.

It is not just other cars you have to worry about either, it’s the massive crowds that always seem to congregate at just the right spot to perfectly inhibit your safe entrance. Showing up early is also a great way of seeing the best cars in action.

Seeing your favorite cars sat stationary is still something worthwhile, but there is nothing comparable to seeing them in action, even if it is just watching them maneuver into a parking spot. So, don’t forget to set your alarm clock for that obscenely early hour, and get ready to either park up, or be on the lookout for your favorite cars. Just as an aside, why are car meets always held at inhumanly early hours?

21 Do: Bring Water and Sunblock

Okay, you finally decided on the perfect car meet that you have your heart set on attending. You arrive early, and eagerly anticipate the arrival of the bulk of the meet’s lineup. Then it hits you, you will be spending the next few hours walking around the baking asphalt, completely unprotected from the sun. An hour into it, you realize that because of the sun, you are now incredibly thirsty, but the only water around is from an overpriced vendor.

So, the car meet ends, and you are now the proud owner of the world’s worst sunburn and are out of pocket on the world’s most overpriced bottle of water. Definitely not a good start to your journey into the world of car meets. That is why is imperative to not let yourself get too fixated on the cars at the car meet and forget the essentials to taking care of yourself. Our rule of thumb is to always prepare as if you are going to the beach , that way you are covered on multiple fronts.

20 Do: Make New Friends

This is probably the most important thing you should remember to do. Car meets are wonderful in their ability to bring together what has traditionally been a polarized, and often times volatile, community. It is the great equalizer of car events, where you can mingle with you local Bugatti owners, as well as people from the after-market community. Being a smorgasbord of diverse backgrounds, it is imperative to make an effort to make some new friends.

Again, this is probably easier said than done, especially if you are skewed towards the introvert side. That being said, there are ways to break the ice with strangers at car meets. The easiest and way of is to ask an owner about their car.

If there is one thing car enthusiasts like almost as driving their cars, it is talking about their cars. It is also a great strategy to walk around to all the different sections, do not get overly comfortable staying in the same circle, this is the car meet equivalent of hanging by the punch bowl at a dance. So, venture forth, young Padawan, and make all the friends your little heart can manage.

19 Do: Be Open to New Styles

Okay, full disclosure, we all have our preferences. Some people love classic cars. Others can’t stop obsessing about all things JDM. Then you have your muscle car fanatics, super car lovers, and all the eclectic and increasingly niche subsets that lie somewhere along the automotive spectrum. If you are attending a general car meet , and not something with a specific theme (think of a Porsche-only event), then you have before yourself an incredible opportunity to be exposed to cars that are entirely new to you and that you otherwise would be unable to see in your daily life.

Being open is why it is important to remember to explore around and taste the meet’s different offerings. Think of it like buffet, you would never fill up on purely chicken wings, would you? No, you get a bit of everything, and always eat too much. Alright, the analogy kind of falls apart at the end, but the sentiment is correct. This does mean you have to be open-minded enough to appreciate someone else’s style and car. With cars, as in life, keeping an open mind opens new doors to possibilities and opportunities that otherwise would not have existed, so please, explore without prejudice.

18 Do: Bring the Whole Family

As we have mentioned before, car meets are a fantastic way of bringing people of incredibly diverse backgrounds together under the banner of common interest. What we didn’t mention is that it is also a great way of bringing together people with starkly different interests. We are talking of course, about your family.

You see, just because you obsess day in and day out about your cars, does not mean your family shares the same level of passion. Usually, it's not even close. If you are lucky, they will have a passive ambivalence about your extracurricular hobby.

Whether that be your significant other, children, or some other member of your extended family, car meets are great ways of exposing them to your favorite pass time. Show them the product of the hours of time and money you pour into your car. It can also be a great way of turning some members of your family into aspirant car enthusiasts themselves. At the very least, it will give your family a deeper understanding of what you are passionate about and why. Plus, car meets can definitely be tons of fun, even for those who are not their because they love cars.

17 Do: Take Lots of Pictures

With the proliferation of social media, and the ubiquity of high-quality cameras on smartphones, taking pictures has got to be one of the most obvious things to do when attending a car meet. But in the heat of the moment, you may begin to feel self-conscious about taking pictures of a stranger’s car. Don’t! Everyone at a car meet is there because they are passionate about their cars and are more than willing to share their projects with you and your camera .

Car meets are also fantastic ways of building a social media following nowadays. At the very least, you may just discover a new hobby in photography. Just beware and be cautious, because despite the typically characteristic openness of car owners at car meets, every once in a while, you will come across an unwilling soul, dead set on sharing their vehicle to all your Instagram followers.

Because of this, as a means of common courtesy, always ask for permission when taking pictures up close and personal of someone’s car. Car meets are equally great at launching YouTube channels. Given the new wave of car spotters, you definitely would not be alone.

16 Do: Bring Plenty of Detailing Supplies

This particular tip is for those actively participating in the car meet. Now, bringing your own car to a car meet can be an especially nerve-racking experience. You are experiencing anxiety from countless sources. Whether that is you worrying about how your car will be received, how the audience will treat your car, or if there will be any kids out there hell-bent on scratching your car. With all these thoughts running through your head it can be easy to properly prepare your car for the meet.

We are not just talking about giving your car a quick wash and wax either. Throughout the course of the meet, even just the drive over to the location, your car will accumulate some dirt. Nothing ruins that sweet IG post faster than a dirty car.

This is why bringing supplementary detailing products should be at the top of every car owner’s list when preparing for a car meet. It does not take much either, get a decent quality microfiber towel, and some quick spray detailer, and you got yourself a winning combination sure to have your car looking fresh for the public. Now all you have to hope for, is that no unattended kids lay into the clear coat.

15 Do: Follow Proper Parking Etiquette

This might be the most anxiety-ridden moment of any car owner’s odyssey into the world of car meets. It has become a point of pride to be a good parker, specifically, being able to back in a car. Now, to begin with, you should always listen to the event organizers, as they will typically be directing traffic to designated locations. Furthermore, if no event organizers are assuming this responsibility, it is crucial that you quickly survey the parking lot and observe the trend in cars already parked.

What we mean is, at most car meets, cars will usually back in, but that is a general rule, not a universal law. Therefore, it would be prudent to quickly determine what is the prevailing method of parking at this particular meet. When it actually comes to parking, just remember to be calm, and ask for help if necessary. Parking between six-figure exotics is not the time to let your pride get a hold of you. So, do not be shy to ask any spectator around to help guide you in. Also, unless otherwise given explicit permission to do so, do not be the person that takes up multiple spaces. It just looks bad on your part.

14 Do: Dress Comfortably

Okay, this is definitely a too-often overlooked one, and objectively subjective. T-shirts and shorts would be a comfortable option for Californians, but sure death for Minnesotans. So the first step when preparing for a car meet, is to check the weather and dress accordingly. This is already something you probably planned to do anyway, especially if you are a convertible owner. Those five minutes can be a lifesaver if you live in a region with a volatile weather pattern.

As you may or may not know, car meets inevitably mean extended minutes of idle standing, brisk walking, and occasionally running under the right circumstances (think Ferrari 812 about to exit parking lot).

Before you know it, all this activity has tested the limits of your shoes' arch support, and the strength of your deodorant. Add humidity to the situation, and things only continue to get worse. Therefore, it is crucial to bring the right gear that allows you flexibility and comfort. Seriously, you are doing yourself a huge favor. So, be wise and keep those leather-studded chaps at home for this one.

13 Do: Have Fun!

This is the single most important thing you must keep in mind when planning your time at a car meet. At the end of the day, having fun is the whole premise of your attending a car event in the first place. As is often in life, unfortunately, you could easily get bogged down in the mire of logistics and social nuances, and completely forget the reason that brought you to the car meet world in the first place. An open environment, where people congregate to enjoy themselves and their common passions.

Remind yourself that cars are meant to be enjoyed, and more specifically as it relates to car meets, meant to be shared and experienced. Their cars being the points of pride for many gear heads, it is easy to take something as seemingly relaxed like a car meet too seriously. Few things ruin an otherwise fun experience faster than taking yourself too seriously. With all this being said, you are now equipped with a list of things to do when attending a car meet, now all that is left to do is to give you the run down on 10 things you absolutely should not do at a car meet.

12 Don’t: Start A Rev-Off

Full disclosure, at one point or another, you will, as a car enthusiast, feel the urge to do something pointedly stupid. One of those dumb things that are often the quickest to get a meet shut down, or at the very least, attract unwanted attention from the fuzz, is 2-stepping in the parking lot. This is an especially egregious party foul if you happen to have a straight piped car, which basically means you're treating the audience to the sounds of thunder. We realize how tempting it is to show off that sweet blow-off valve you just installed, but it is important for you to exercise a little temperance and spare the general public’s ear drums.

As far as rev-offs go, which are as the name implies ridiculous battles involving your car’s exhaust systems. This is about as bad as 2-stepping. Typically, these start with two guys arguing over whose car either sounds better, or is just plain louder. Only one of these is actually quantifiable, neither, however, actually matter. Although, we have to admit, shooting flames is pretty cool.

11 Don't: Encourage Bad Behavior

As we have said before, 2-stepping in the parking lot is a bad idea. This bad idea, however, is often brought about by the instigation of members of public. The throngs of camera-wielding spectators are almost insatiable in their lust from increasingly sketchy behavior . Shouting and cheering for loud revving cars, and burnouts do not do anyone any favors, including those doing the shouting.

The most salient example of crowds encouraging bad behavior has to be the crowding of car meet exits. You know exactly what we are talking about, if not, let us paint you a picture: you are leaving a car show, you have a loud, rowdy V-8, and you see a bunch of people at the exit egging you on to power slide out of the meet. You are mildly responsible so at first you are hesitant, but a few more cheers and the promise of Instagram fame seal the deal for you.

What happens next is something that has happened all too often, because we almost forgot to mention, you are driving a Mustang. We have all seen the infamous videos of wild behavior going terribly wrong, and we are not suggesting the crowds are at fault here. But what we are saying, is that it is best to try to discourage such behavior, and the most effective way to do that is to ignore it, not reward it.

10 Don't: Do Donuts... Seriously

Like the loud revving and the 2-stepping, doing donuts, whether in the parking lot or an adjacent street, is a awful idea. In fact, it is a substantially worse idea than just revving loudly. The only real danger from 2-stepping is from damaged ear drums, with donuts, however, we could be talking serious injuries to bystanders.

Not only that, cops will absolutely not tolerate this, and will all but immediately shut down the car meet and may obstruct any future possibilities of holding car meets at that particular location. If that is not enough of a deterrent for possible tire-slaying rogues, know that those same police officers can go as far as impounding your vehicle if they feel you pose a great enough harm to the surrounding bystanders.

This is serious stuff, as it should be. Car meets are events designed to be enjoyable for people of all ages. One of the prerequisites of having a successful car meet, is to ensure the safety of all participants. So, doing donuts is a strict no-no for those looking to go a local car meet. You have been warned, be safe and exercise sound judgement when showing off your pride and joy.

9 Don't: Touch Other People's Cars Without Their Permission

This is everyone’s pet peeve. No one likes the person that goes around putting their dirty paws all over your shiny, clean paint. This is especially prevalent among the non-car enthusiasts that attend their occasional car meet. This is a function of both ignorance and ambivalence. We like to think that these are well-intentioned people who simply let the exuberance of beautiful cars temporarily override sounder judgment.

Sometimes, however, these well-intentioned people can lead to some serious damage. From scratches to dents, many car meet veterans have stories of wayward bystanders ruining their car without the slightest shame. Even worse still, are the wretched group of people who are not well-intentioned, and who instead have malevolent intentions when they attend a car meet. Whether jealousy or pure evil, sometimes bystanders will purposely wound your baby. This is both cruel and excessive, but something that has happened before.

This is why it is always important to ask the car owner for permission to touch the car, whether that be for a picture, or something else. This is especially true if you are trying to get inside their car. Common sense, despite being seemingly uncommon, should be followed carefully at all times.

8 Don't: Start An Impromptu Drag Race

This is another one of those things that falls under the stupid category. We get it though, the exuberance of youth often prevails over better temperance, but still, it’s a bad idea. As we have already covered, doing any of these can lead to losing your car, or even someone losing their life. Drag racing is also a common feature at car meets. Nothing especially organized, perhaps something as simple as coming across your local car meet rival at a stop sign. Regardless, this is not something you want to be taking part in, because it is both dangerous and, again, stupid.

For that matter, we should also caution those attending car meets to obey all traffic laws. Not just speed limits either, though that is obviously an important one and one that is often the point of greatest contention at car meets. As well as speed limits, it's also important to make sure you avoid the oft-cited “exhibition of speed” ticket. This is not the same as speeding, what this means is, that people who quickly accelerate or rev their engines. We have already covered the trappings of revving, but quickly accelerating is also something to be aware of as you are exiting or arriving at a car meet.

7 Don't: Complain About Other Cars in Attendance

Being “salty”, as the kids say, is when you assume the state of mind of a hater. Someone who only has one objective, brings others down. Whether that be through snide remarks, sour looks, or a combination thereof, car meets are filled with people getting their hate on. That is because the car community is a microcosm of the world at large. Filled with mostly decent, kind people, but also host to a seething, ugly underbelly where people thrive off disrespecting others . That is why, when attending a car meet, you should do your utmost to make sure you steer clear of any such behavior.

Complaining just is not an attractive trait. It is only exacerbated when what you're complaining about it something as subjective as which car looks or is better.

Complaining affects more than just yourself too, it has a pernicious effect on all those who happen to be misfortunate enough to be around you. It casts a negative cloud over what should otherwise be a pleasant event. In extreme cases, complaining could lead to confrontations when the owner of the object of your complaints decides they have had enough. This is really just a friendly reminder to be kind and avoid cynicism.

6 Don't: Feel Intimidated Attending Your First Meet

This one is almost unavoidable. It can be a scary thing to attend your first car meet, especially if this is your first time going, and you are going by yourself. It is almost like moving to a new school halfway through the year. You show up as the new kid, while everyone else as already established their respective cliques.

This is, in some sense, an accurate representation of car meets. You will often see people communing in groups, but that is definitely not to say that the car community is cliquey. So, while you may be the new kid on the block, it is important to remember that everyone has gone through this before.

Not only that, the car community, despite its less than savory elements, is an overwhelmingly positive community. Being bashful may be your first reaction to venturing into an entirely new environment, but do not be surprised when you feel the full front of the community’s embrace. Just like bonding over sports, few things can bring two seemingly antithetical people together like a shared passion for cars. So, get out there and do not feel frightened by the strangers in the crowds, because as the saying goes, a stranger is just a friend you haven’t met yet.

5 Don't: Disrespect Event Organizers

Organizers are often the unsung heroes of car meets . They handle the logistics, promotion, and vendor coordination, all of which typically go unappreciated. Add to this, the monumental task of trying to wrangle a bunch of antsy car enthusiasts eager for mischief, and you got yourself a recipe for a thankless and taxing job. This is why you should do your best to try to express your appreciation to these organizers, for all the work they have put in, especially considering a lot of them are doing this on a solely voluntary basis.

One of the best ways of expressing your appreciation and gratitude, aside from actually saying thank you (which you should totally do), is to dutifully follow their instruction and refrain from being a rampaging hooligan. Every dumb move someone at a car meet does is added pressure and anxiety to the event organizers.

Not only that, participants in the car meets are often resentful of organizers due to what they perceive as unfair or overly restrictive regulations. When in doubt, just follow the golden rule, and treat the event organizers the way you would expect and hope to be treated if you were in their position

4 Don't: Lie About Your Car's Specs

Committing this sin at a car meet will do many things for you and your reputation, none of which are good or should be aspired to. When you lie to someone about how much power your car makes, or maybe just exaggerate the actual figures, you are putting leaving yourself wide open.

That is because, if there is one thing car enthusiasts are good at, is reading through BS power figures. This ability is another point of pride for gear heads, and that in of itself is also easy to explain. You see, in the car world, how much power your car puts down is the equivalent of how big your stick was in primal times.

On top of that, boasting about your cars inflated power figures makes you look petty and small, much like your cars power figures. Okay, that last part was probably hurtful, but that is part of the point. Your cars power numbers today are a reflection of where it is currently at, not where it will be at. Every person at a car meet will recognize that and be accordingly supportive in your car’s journey. So, there is really no need to lie or embellish.

12 Themed Cruises You Should Have On Your Radar In 2024

T aking a cruise is an experience unlike anything else. Days at sea on a ship full of entertainment and relaxation make for a fantastic vacation. But what if you want even more from your cruise? A theme might be what's missing. In addition to all the usual cruise experiences, themed cruises allow fans of a particular artist, lifestyle, hobby (or even animal), to celebrate their passion on the high seas with activities, events, surprises, and sometimes special guests.

There are dozens of themed cruises on offer each year, usually hosted by major cruise lines like Norwegian , Carnival, and Royal Caribbean. But don't let their numbers fool you. According to  Business Insider , themed cruises are rapidly climbing in popularity, and some trips are selling out in record time. That means it's important to find your dream-themed cruise and reserve your tickets as early as possible.

Fortunately, even if they're sold out, most themed cruises will let you join a waiting list, so there's still hope! Here are 12 themed cruises that will set sail in 2024 and are well worth boarding, either now or the next time they hit the high seas.

The Emo's Not Dead Cruise

If you truly know it's not a phase, the Emo's Not Dead Cruise is perfect for you. Gather with fellow emo fans for four days (and nights) of concerts, activities, and even a private party at Great Stirrup Kay in the Bahamas. Over a dozen bands will perform, including Yellowcard, Senses Fail, and Armor for Sleep. Alongside themed activities like a masquerade ball, cruisegoers can also enjoy surprisingly cheerful activities like a bellyflop competition in the ship's pool.

The first Emo's Not Dead cruise was in 2022. Cruisegoer and emo fan TheReelChris shared highlights on  YouTube , calling it "EPIC." Fans in the comments section agree, with Schecterplayer92 adding, "This was one of the best experiences of my life." With a killer lineup and entertaining activities scheduled, it seems like Emo's Not Dead 2024 will also be a rad experience. The cruise will be hosted on the Norwegian Pearl, leaving from Miami on February 26 and returning on March 1, 2024. But what would an emo-related cruise be without a little sadness? Unfortunately, the cruise is already sold out. If you're interested, you can  sign up for the waiting list  and hope.

Meow Meow Cruise

Some of us know that no matter how great a vacation might be, cats would make it even better. Meow Meow Cruise has solved that problem. While guests unfortunately aren't allowed to bring their own furry friends aboard Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady, the four-day cruise will give them their feline fix in plenty of other ways.

Activities include cat-themed trivia and a scavenger hunt. But the best part may be communing with fellow cat people (many of whom stroll around the ship wearing cat ears). You'll also be able to mingle with real cats -- one of 2024's ports of call is Key West, where you'll find the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum and its community of about 60 friendly polydactyl kitties, many of them descended from one of the author's own pets.

It's hard to find reviews for Meow Meow Cruise, but the fact that this themed cruise has been going on annually since 2015 speaks for itself. The 2024 Meow Meow Cruise sets sail from Miami on February 21, with a return date of February 25. Tickets are still available, but to be sure you don't miss out, consider booking right now.

In My Cruise Era

Sure, cruises are great — and cruising is a multi-billion dollar industry — but is anything more popular than Taylor Swift? For those who can't imagine anyone saying "no" to that question, there's no better cruise than In My Cruise Era. While not officially affiliated with Taylor Swift, this themed cruise is a passionate fan homage. Swifties will be able to dress up in their favorite Taylor-inspired looks, exchange friendship bracelets, perform their idol's songs during karaoke sessions, and more. We're also guessing there will be of lots impromptu song breaks throughout the ship from Taylor's extensive catalog.

Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas will host this cruise, which sets sail from Miami on October 21, 2024 -- which, as People Magazine points out, is one day after the Eras Tour will be in the city. Fans lucky enough to attend the concert can continue their Taylor euphoria for four more days on the high seas. Since this is a new themed cruise, there aren't any reviews, but based on the positive fan vibes from Eras Tour concerts and movie viewings, among other events, we're guessing it's going to be a great time for Swifties. Swifties must agree, since the cruise is already sold out. Cancellations do happen, though, so hopeful fans can join the waiting list.  Contact the cruise's organizers to sign up.

Disney's Halloween On The High Seas

Go on just about any cruise-related blog or website and you'll see that Disney Cruise Line's Halloween-themed cruise, officially called Halloween on the High Seas, is a popular favorite. As you probably expect from Disney, this themed cruise is perfect for a family vacation , so it's not too scary. The cruise is hosted on multiple Disney Cruise Line ships, and each one is decorated with the care and attention to detail you'll find in most Disney-related enterprises. The Pumpkin Tree is the highlight of the decor, with pumpkins that eventually appear on its branches and transform into lit and unlit jack o'lanterns.

Halloween on the High Seas also features Halloween activities (including a trick-or-treating night) and exclusive Halloween-themed desserts. Disney cruises in general are known for their opportunities to meet the studio's beloved characters, and during the Halloween on the High Seas cruises, some of those characters are in costume. Notably, Disney Cruise Line's official site tells us, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Clarabelle Cow will be dressed as the Sanderson Sisters -- who wouldn't want to see that?

This magical mixture of whimsy, fun, and exclusive opportunities is the perfect way to cast a spell on Disney fans of all ages. Luckily, Halloween on the High Seas is held during a number of different times in September and October, so you and your family should be able to find a place on board!

The Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise

Sure, Hallmark Channel Christmas movies might be a little on the cheesy side, but let's be honest: lots of us dream of being in one in real life. You can get a little of the real-life Hallmark movie experience by visiting some of the movies' filming locations , but now there's a way to have an even more immersive experience: The Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise.

Passengers will get to meet Hallmark Channel movie stars, attend panels and photo ops, and get to see a new Hallmark Christmas movie before its world premiere. Maybe best of all, passengers can take part in lots of Hallmark Christmas movie-inspired activities, including tree lighting and cookie decorating -- all while wearing their favorite ugly Christmas sweaters.

2024 is the first year of the Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise. It was originally intended to be just one cruise, but a second one was added after the first one sold out. As of now, two Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruises are scheduled for 2024. Both go from Miami to the Bahamas and back and last four days in November. ... And both are sold out. But Christmas is a time of miracles, so if a Hallmark Channel Christmas experience on the high seas sounds like your dream come true, sign up for the waiting list as soon as you can!

Hurtigruten Northern Lights Cruises

Themed cruises are often about fandoms and hobbies. But Norway-based cruise line Hurtigruten offers a themed cruise that's about something even bigger: the Northern Lights . There are several Northern Lights-themed cruises out there, including some luxurious options by Cunard. Unfortunately, the Northern Lights aren't always visible, but Hurtigruten stands out by offering a Northern Lights Promise for cruises scheduled between September 26 and March 31 and lasting longer than 11 days. If the Northern Lights aren't visible during your cruise, they'll give you another one. So if you're serious about seeing the Aurora Borealis, this is the company to choose.

The Northern Lights are the focus of Hurtigruten's eponymous cruises, but there are also other things to do on board, including scientific lectures and photography lessons. There are excursions, too -- notably a dog sledding option. Passengers who've taken one of Hurtigruten's cruises unanimously praise the stunning fjords and landscapes you can admire from the ship and during excursions, not to mention their experiences of seeing the Northern Lights. Some warn that the ships aren't as luxurious or modern as many other cruise ships, primarily because Hurtigruten's ships are also functional vessels intended to transport and deliver mail to various points on the Norwegian coast. Still,  Cruise Critic reviewers like cmolaison praise the friendly crew, the surprising level of comfort, and the "stunning vistas" you'll see, saying he and his family "highly recommend" taking a Hurtigruten cruise.

Cruise & Crop Crafting Cruises

If the perfect vacation for you is a combination of R&R and crafting, you're in luck! There are several crafting-themed cruises. One of the most popular is organized by Cruise & Crop, with ships around the world hosting different crafting- and arts-themed trips. This makes them the most accessible themed cruises on our list, with different price ranges, departure points, itineraries, and ports of call. One thing all crafting cruises have in common, though, is groups of like-minded people exploring their creativity amid the other joys of cruising.

For instance, one of Crop & Cruise's 2024 offerings is a Mexican Riviera cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, featuring scrapbooking and other papercraft classes taught by artist Barb Warne. The ship departs from Los Angeles on April 19, returning April 26. Many Cruise & Crop cruises sell out quickly, so if this idea has sparked both your wanderlust and your creativity, be sure to check their list of 2024 cruises and reserve as soon as you can.

Star Trek: The Cruise

For seven days and nights every year, thousands of Star Trek fans gather to be a part of a fandom extravaganza at sea. Star Trek: The Cruise is an experience that features celebrities aboard (2024's guests include LeVar Burton and Wil Wheaton, among many others), costume and cosplay events, and lots of fun activities.

But what makes Star Trek: The Cruise truly unique is that audience participation is very much encouraged. Passengers and celebrity guests are all considered the crew of one great, big, intergalactic vessel. Passengers get to interact with the guest stars in events like karaoke battles, and stars share parts of their earthly lives with Q&A sessions and even glimpses at other projects they may be involved in.

The first Star Trek: The Cruise was held in 2017 and since then it's been a fan favorite. Star Wars and cruising aficionado Aaron Bossig writes on  Trek Movie.com that many fans go on the cruise every year, and proudly wear t-shirts from the previous ones. He calls Star Trek: The Cruise "an extra special convention experience." 2024's edition will be held on the Mariner of the Seas, departing from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on February 22 and returning on February 29.

Literature Festival At Sea

Once a year, aboard the legendary Queen Mary 2, passengers can mingle with writers, poets, journalists, and critics in a full-blown literary festival in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Literature Festival at Sea invites writers in all genres to host round table discussions, participate in Q&As revolving around their work and areas of expertise, host workshops, and converse with passengers.

Whether passengers want to participate as much as possible or just attend a few events, the Festival seems to be an excellent addition to a typical Queen Mary 2 voyage. On TripAdvisor , passenger Artemis C writes of her experience at a previous Literature Festival at Sea that "the whole week was a joy".

2024's lineup features crime novelists, journalists, historians, and more, for what's sure to be a fascinating week of discussion and discovery. If you'd like to combine an elegant transatlantic cruise and a literary experience, 2024's Literature Festival at Sea will take place from November 13-20, departing from Southampton, U.K., and arriving in New York. Cunard has also launched an Australian Literature Festival at Sea, scheduled from December 11-16, 2024, on the Queen Elizabeth, which departs from and returns to Sydney.

Chefs Making Waves

Many cruise lines are proud of their food offerings. Some cruises feature dishes created by world-famous chefs, and others even host food and wine festivals. But no culinary cruise event seems quite as, well, fun, as Chefs Making Waves. This culinary-themed cruise will set sail for the first time in 2024. Onboard will be a number of beloved celebrity chefs, including Anne Burrell and the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro. Cooking demos and, of course, food tastings of all kinds (including sit-down meals, desserts, and street food) are on the menu. Best of all, Chefs Making Waves is an all-inclusive cruise, so everyone can eat and drink without having to pay extra!

There will be all of the usual cruise-related fun, from swimming to excursions, to help you work up an appetite. There will also be unique games, with some of the chefs participating in events like bingo and a celebrity chef sing-off. If this sounds like an awesome cruise, you're not the only one who feels that way. Chefs Making Waves will take place from March 25-29, departing from Miami with excursions in Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau, Bahamas ... and it's already sold out. But you can still  sign up for the waiting list . With a little luck, you'll be able to enjoy this delicious, themed cruise experience.

Soul Train Cruise

Imagine a festival with a lineup featuring some of the best soul and R&B acts of all time. Now imagine it's on a relaxing cruise ship. This dream is actually reality -- it's called the Soul Train Cruise. The popular themed cruise will be celebrating its 11th year in 2024 and the lineup is on fire. Dozens of groups and artists will perform, including The Temptations, Boyz II Men, and En Vogue. Passengers can also learn how to dance like people did back in the old school days of Soul Train's TV show, with lessons from some of the show's actual dancers. There will also be wine tastings, Q&A's, comedy shows, and a lot more.

With all of this on offer, it's no surprise that the Soul Train Cruise is sold out. But sign up on the waiting list and keep your calendar free from January 27-February 3, and you may get lucky. If you do, the cruise leaves from Fort Lauderdale, with ports of call in Tortola (British Virgin Islands) and St. Maarten.

The Gothic Cruise

The Gothic Cruise is an annual event held on an ordinary cruise ship. Goths mingle with "norms" but have their own private events on board, mostly DJ sets and concerts. There's also a masquerade ball, with Goths decked out in their finest Victorian-style garb ... as long as it meets ship safety requirements, that is. The cruise's website specifies that simulated weapons aren't allowed and notes that hoop skirts are fine for the ball but not in the ship's dining areas, "due to the close proximity of the tables". And yet, the Goth community thrives on these cruises -- and even gains norm fans along the way.

In a Porthole Magazine article about the Gothic Cruise, longtime attendee Spike Pittman says that many mainstream passengers are wary of the Goths at first, "But by the end they're begging to get into our private events." Some even book their future cruises to coincide with the Gothic Cruise, even if they don't plan on attending every event.

The Gothic Cruise has been held since 1989. Cruising doesn't seem very Goth, but in the end, the article points out, it comes down to what all themed cruises offer: a sense of community (in this case, one that often stays up all night and sleeps during the day). If this moves your little black heart, the 2024 Gothic Cruise will be held on the Norwegian Escape (but book through the Gothic Cruise's website for private event access), departing from Orlando on March 2, and returning March 9.
