Bangalore to Coorg Road Trip : The Perfect Itinerary for 2024

Last Updated on May 9, 2024

My journeys to Coorg have been nothing short of magical. Having visited this enchanting district in Karnataka thrice on weekend trips from Bangalore, I've been captivated by its verdant landscapes.

Coorg, with its rich history and breathtaking views, is a destination where a weekend trip merely scratches the surface. So here is a 5-day Bangalore to Coorg road trip plan for a wholesome experience this season.

I have crafted this itinerary for those who love long drives, so most of my post will focus on the 5-day plan for Bangalore to Coorg road trip by car . However, I have also included a 2-days itinerary for Coorg in the end, for those who want to make the most of their weekend getaway from Bangalore.

Coorg is the most beautiful district in Karnataka (a state in India) dotted with waterfalls, rivulets, coffee groves and greenery all around. IT is also a historic site famous for the Kodagu war clan. Check out the best road trip plan for Coorg from Bangalore

Coorg – A Short Background For The Unintroduced

Coorg, known as Kodagu, is a district in Karnataka, India, famed for its verdant landscapes and cultural richness. It covers approximately 4,102 square kilometers in the Western Ghats , known for its rolling hills, coffee plantations, and dense forests.

Historically, Coorg has been ruled by various dynasties, and the Kodavas, the native warrior community, are central to its cultural identity. Uniquely, Kodavas are allowed to carry firearms without a license, a privilege granted by the British due to their martial history.

The introduction of coffee and tea plantations during British rule has significantly shaped Coorg's economy and landscape. Today, it stands as a major tourism destination, drawing visitors for its natural beauty, adventure sports, and unique culture.

The district's cuisine, characterized by pork dishes and rice-based specialties, and festivals like Kailpodh and Puttari, reflect its rich cultural tapestry.

Coorg also plays a crucial role in environmental conservation as part of the biodiversity-rich Western Ghats, making it a hotspot for ecological and wildlife enthusiasts.

Where To Stay In Coorg?

This red colored building is a quaint little homestay with a pool in a coffee estate in Coorg. We stayed here on our Bangalore to Coorg road trip

In Coorg, accommodation options are as varied as the landscape, offering something for every traveler. For a 5-day road trip plan I ideally recommend staying in Madikeri for two nights and Virajpet for two nights.

Madikeri, the district's heart, is the most popular choice, known for its range of stays from luxurious resorts to cozy homestays, catering to diverse budgets and preferences. Here, you can find heritage bungalows and modern hotels, many offering stunning views of the lush hills and plantations.

#Top Pick s

🌟 Zostel Coorg – Located 8km from Madikeri Fort, this beautiful property costs about Rs. 3500 per night for an entire villa for two people.

🌟 Serene Woods – Located 1.8km from Madikeri Fort, right in the middle of a coffee estate, this place is worth your money. It's in the mid-budget at around Rs. 6000/- per night. Best part is you get to explore the coffee garden within the premises.

🌟 Taj Madikeri – The 5-star luxury resort is the best property in Coorg for those ready to pay a premium for first class amenities and dream-like views.

Virajpet, slightly offbeat and less crowded, is perfect for those seeking tranquility. It hosts a mix of upscale resorts and quaint cottages, ideal for a peaceful retreat amidst nature. For a more immersive experience, consider staying in plantation bungalows or eco-friendly lodges located in the midst of coffee estates, especially in areas like Siddapur and Kushalnagar.

That's me in my light-colored summer dress and slippers in Club Mahindra Virajpet resort.

🌟 Club Mahindra Virajpet : This is where I stayed on my road trip and it is my top recommendation for Virajpet. From morning walks in the coffee estate, to the relaxing in the swimming pool in the evening, I enjoyed every bit of it. I stayed in a cottage with two rooms that accommodated for and had a well-equipped kitchenette.

Best Coorg Tours

While my guide will help you explore Coorg on your own, an organized tour with a guide certainly enhances the experience. You will get to know the background and significance of each place beyond the natural beauty. Here are the best Coorg tours I recommend.

🌟A guided walking tour of heritage trails in Coorg with a local. You can take this on day 2 in Madikeri after a trip to Abbey falls and Mandalpatti.

🌟Experience the culinary delights of Coorg in this guided food crawl in Madikeri

🌟Book a guided day trip to Talacauvery from Coorg. This is the source of the river Cauvery, one of the longest rivers in south India that is the lifeline to many in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Coorg Road Trip Plan in Details

Now let's dive into this 5-day road trip from Bangalore and see what it holds for us.

Also check out the complete and compact road trip packing list for a hassle-free road trip from Bangalore.

Day 1: Bangalore to Coorg By Road via NH 275

winding roads we encountered in our Bangalore to Coorg road trip

NH 275 offer the shortest route to Coorg with filled with scenic views, smooth roads, and a taste of Karnataka's rich cultural tapestry. The route, stretching approximately 250 kilometers, takes 5 to 6 hours depending on traffic and stops.

Start your journey early (say 6 am – 6:30 am) from Bangalore to make the most of the day and avoid the city's morning traffic. The early hours also offer a cooler and more pleasant driving experience. Navigate towards Mysuru Road.

After about 10 km you enter NH 275 one of the best national highways in the state. You will need to pay toll tax at different points on this road. We always use FASTtag for paying tolls faster and more conveniently.

Breakfast at Srirangapatna

Traditional South Indian breakfast - two white idlis with chutney and sambhar served on a banana leaf

After about a 2-hour drive covering nearly 125 kilometers, you'll reach Srirangapatna, a historic town with a rich heritage. A recommended stop for breakfast is at Saravana Bhavan, where you can indulge in a delicious South Indian breakfast, reenergizing for the journey ahead.

On a longer road trip, you can actually spend more time here, but in this plan I suggest to just stop for breakfast and enjoy the views while driving

Visit Namdroling Monastery in Bylakuppe

Glittering Golden statues of Buddha in the Namdroling Monastery of Bylakuppe

From Srirangapatna, continue your drive for about an hour and a half, covering around 88 kilometers to reach Bylakuppe. This land was given to the Tibetan monks who sought refuge in India during the 1960s. There are many monasteries here, of which Namdroling, also known as the Golden Temple is the largest.

The Namdroling Monastery, a major attraction here, is known for its magnificent Tibetan architecture and serene ambiance. Spending an hour or two here is enough to explore the monastery, soak in the peaceful vibes, and learn about Tibetan Buddhist culture.

On a usual weekend, you can also take a trip to just Bylakuppe for an immersive experience of the Tibetan settlements in India.

Explore Nisargadhama Riverine Island

River glittering under the sunrays peeking through the thick canopies in Nisargadhama

A short 3-kilometer drive from here will bring you to the enchanting Nisargadhama riverine island around midday. This ecological park, nestled on the banks of the Cauvery River, is an ideal spot for a leisurely walk amidst bamboo groves, teak, and sandalwood trees.

You can also visit the Nisargadhama bird park here.

Detour to Chiklihole Reservoir

Water jetting out of the Chiklihole Reservoir in Coorg and tourists climbing down the stairs after watching the beauty of the surroundings.

Next, head towards the Chiklihole reservoir, a lesser-known yet serene spot perfect for nature lovers. This tranquil location is about 15 kilometers from Nisargadhama and offers a picturesque setting for a short break.

Conclude at Your Hotel in Madikeri

Finally, a drive of approximately 20 kilometers from Chiklihole will lead you to Madikeri, the heart of Coorg. By late afternoon or early evening, you should reach your hotel. Madikeri offers a range of accommodation options, from luxurious resorts to cozy homestays.

This is the time to unwind and relax, soaking in the cool, refreshing air of Coorg, and preparing for the adventures that await in the coming days.

This first day of the Bangalore to Coorg road trip via NH 275 combines a mix of travel, culture, and natural beauty, setting the tone for an unforgettable journey through one of Karnataka’s most cherished destinations.

Day 2: Sightseeing Around Madikeri

After an invigorating first day and a restful night in Madikeri, the second day of your journey is dedicated to exploring the wonders around this charming town. Starting your day with breakfast, aim to begin your sightseeing around 9 am to make the most of the daylight.

The majestic Waterfall called abbey Falls at Coorg. This is the highlight of Bangalore to Coorg road trip

Journey to Abbey Falls

  • Distance and Time: Abbey Falls is located just 8 kilometers from Madikeri, making it a short and scenic drive of about 20 minutes.
  • Timing and Duration: The best time to visit is in the morning when it's less crowded. The falls are open from 9 am to 5 pm, and there's a nominal entry fee of around INR 20 per person. An hour here should suffice to enjoy the beauty of the falls and capture some great photos.

Trek or Jeep Safari to Mandalpatti

A group if girls travelling to Mandapatti - the famous site near Madikeri for breathtaking views

Post Abbey Falls, head towards Mandalpatti, about 18 kilometers from Madikeri. It's advisable to hire a jeep as the road can be rough and challenging for regular vehicles.

The journey to Mandalpatti offers breathtaking views of the Western Ghats. At the viewpoint, you're greeted with a panoramic view of the lush green landscapes, making it a perfect spot for nature lovers and photographers.

Timing and Cost: The jeep safari can be arranged at the base of Mandalpatti, costing around INR 1500 – 2000 per jeep, accommodating up to 5-6 people. The safari usually takes around 3 hours, including the time spent at the viewpoint.

Alternative to Mandalpatti : Since a trek to Tadiadmol is already in the plan you can skip Mandalpatti if you want to. If you missed visiting Chiklihole Reservoir on Day 1, you could opt for a tour here instead of Mandalpatti. It’s a peaceful spot, ideal for relaxation and nature walks.

Late Lunch Back in Madikeri

After returning from your morning adventures, aim for a late lunch in Madikeri around 2 or 3 pm. The town offers various dining options, from traditional Kodava cuisine to popular Indian dishes.

Evening At Madikeri

You can explore the city center of Madikeri after lunch. Walk to the Omkareshwara Temple – the most famous place of worship in Coorg. There is a small pond surrounded by a well-maintained garden inside the premises.

Then, proceed to Raja’s Seat, a mere kilometer from the temple. This is a landscaped park at the hilltop.

The best time to visit is during sunset, around 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, offering spectacular views of the sun setting over the hills. The entry fee is nominal, around INR 5 per person, and there's an additional charge if you wish to take the toy train ride in the garden.

You can also enjoy the musical fountain here after the sunset. This is a great place to visit with children.

This day combines the thrill of exploring natural wonders with the tranquility of historic sites, all within close proximity to Madikeri. It's a day that captures the essence of Coorg, with its blend of adventure, serenity, and scenic beauty.

Often skipped in the Coorg itineraries, Barapole river rafting was in fact the hghlight of my first trip to Coorg way back in 2015. It was a budget trip with friends, and we stayed in an eco-homestay at a hilltop, reached by a somewhat daunting jeep ride in the dark.

The trip was filled with firsts – from rafting in the vigorous Barapole river to trekking and visiting Namdroling Monastery. The moments of watching the sunrise over the hills, living in a small room with least amenities and the camaraderie around a bonfire at night added to the essence of adventure and camaraderie that Coorg embodies.

Day 3 promises an adrenaline rush with a river rafting adventure at Barapole, followed by a visit to the serene Iruppu Falls, and a relaxing evening as you shift to your hotel in Virajpet.

Barapole River Rafting experience

A group of four girls ready to embark on the river rafting adventure in Coorg

Try to check out of your hotel as early as possible today, preferably by 10 am. Then drive to the Barapole River Rafting Center in Srimangala, about 80 kilometers from Madikeri. This 2-hour drive takes you through beautiful landscapes, setting the tone for an adventurous day.

Rishikesh comes to mind whenever we speak of whitewater rafting in India. However, this is also a very well established rafting center.

The Barapole river is famous for its exhilarating rapids, suitable for both beginners and experienced rafters. Rafting here usually starts from 7 am to 4pm in batches of 1 to 1.5 hours. Add to that the time of transport from end point to the start point, and additional activities, you can reserve 3 hours for this activity.

It costs approximately INR 1,000 to INR 1,500 per person. Under expert guidance, this experience is both thrilling and safe.

They provide safety jackets and helmets to everyone and give you instructions needed for the adventure. All seven of us embarked on this adventure on a single raft with our guide doing most of the heavy-lifting when it came to rowing in the water.

Beware, they might push you into the water at a safe location but tell them not to do such things in the very beginning. This just adds to the thrill, and I haven't heard of anyone getting hurt in this, but I still, they shouldn't do it if you tell them not to.

At an extra cost they will also get you a nose-dive into the waterfall at Barapole by pulling the boat upwards against the direction of the falls. Yeah, and only one person does it, speak of “ Bahubali ” for real!

A group of five girls and two boys along with the trainer ready to go for the river rafting adventure in Coorg

Lunch Post Rafting

After your rafting adventure, indulge in some local flavors at a nearby eatery. The area offers a variety of dining options where you can enjoy authentic Kodava cuisine.

Alternate Route for the Day

Whitewater rafting is a seasonal activity best enjoyed in the months of monsoon due to high water-level. The activity remains closed for 8 months a year and active only between June to September. In fact, most online bookings are open from July, so please verify ahead at your hotel or tourist center if you are visiting in June.

So if you are travelling on any other time you need to have an alternate plan.

Explore more of Madikeri

If you are not planning Barapole river rafting, then I recommend keeping aside some time today for visit to the Omkareshwara temple, instead of squeezing it on day 2.

After this you can visit the General Thimayya Memorial museum and then the Golf park of Madikeri.

Drive to Iruppu Falls

coorg trip cost from bangalore

Iruppu Falls, also known as Lakshmana Tirtha Falls, is a stunning cascade located in the Kodagu district of Karnataka . It holds both natural and mythological significance, making it a popular spot for both tourists and pilgrims.

The falls are a sight to behold, especially during the monsoon when they are at their fullest. The entry fee is around INR 50 per person, and the area is typically open from 8 am to 5 pm. The walk to the falls takes you through a forested path, offering a refreshing encounter with nature.

This place isn't just a visual treat; it's steeped in intriguing trivia that adds to its allure.

When you delve into the legends surrounding these falls, you discover their connection to the epic Ramayana. It's believed that Lakshmana, Lord Rama's brother, shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri hills to bring forth water to quench Rama's thirst. This act created the Lakshmana Tirtha River, which cascades down as the Iruppu Falls.

As you stand before the falls, you're not just witnessing a natural wonder but a site of mythological significance.

Drive to Virajpet with a stop at Chelvara Falls

A group of three girls posing infront of the majestic Chelvara Falls pouring at its full force in the monsoon

After the Barapole river rafting or the alternate itinerary, now it's time to head to Virajpet before the sun sets. The scenic route to Virajpet is through the Bramhagiri eco zone, so it makes most sense to try and reach Virajpet before the evening.

Chelvara falls in Virajpet is a great spot to pause and enjoy at involving a hike that takes hardly 30 minutes or less.

After this you can retire at your hotel at Virajpet.

Day 4: Tadiadmol Trek and Long drive to Talacauvery

Trek to tadiadmol betta.

People walking to the top of the Tadiadmol Peak, it seems as if they can touch the clouds from here

Tadiadmol Betta is the highest peak in the entire Kodagu district (Coorg). The entry to the trek opens as early at 7 am, so the earlier you reach the better. The trek from base camp takes 5 hours round trip. However, you can hire a jeep to take you near the peak as well.

Wear good running shoes and carry two bottles of water in your backpack . You may carry some snacks too as it's an offbeat spot not studded with shops. And that's the best thing about it.

Reaching the summit, you'll be treated to a 360-degree vista that captures the essence of Coorg's natural beauty.

If you want to do the longer trek through coffee groves, verdant vistas dotted streams and waterfalls, check out the details here .

Drive to Talacauvery – The Source of Cauvery

Gorgeous views from Talacauvery or Talakaveri - the starting point of the river Kaveri in Coorg

Talacauvery is the source of river Cauvery – the largest river in Karnataka. This river is a main source of water not just for Karnataka but also Tamil Nadu. This place is therefore of great significance and is a revered pilgrimage site too.

The route from Tadiadmol base to Talacavery takes 1.5 hours. You can stop at several viewpoints for the gorgeous views of the river and the valley.

The route winds through lush landscapes and coffee plantations, offering captivating views along the way. Reaching Talacauvery by mid-morning gives you ample time to explore. This pilgrimage site is also a place of natural beauty, surrounded by hills and dense forests.

On your way to Talacauvery you can stop at Triveni Sangmam, the spot where three tributaries of river Cauvery meet.

If you don't have your personal car on this trip you can book a guided trip to Talacauvery on this day.

Drive Back to Virajpet

After spending time at Talacauvery, begin your drive back to Virajpet in the evening. The return journey is equally scenic, offering more opportunities to enjoy Coorg's mesmerizing landscape. Arriving back in Virajpet by late afternoon or early evening, you'll have time to relax and perhaps explore the town a bit more. Virajpet's laid-back charm makes it a lovely place to unwind after a day of exploration.

Two girls at Virapet town market with the clock tower at the backdrop.

Day 4 is a mix of spiritual exploration and natural wonder. The journey to and from Talacauvery is as beautiful as the destination itself, filled with picturesque views and serene spots, making it a perfect day for introspection and relaxation in the heart of Coorg.

Day 5: Coorg to Bangalore via Nagarhole National Park

Drive to harangi dam.

Girl at the Harangi dam watching the rising water levels against the clouded sky

Your final day in Coorg starts with a visit to the Harangi Dam, an impressive structure located near Kushalnagar, around 30 kilometers from Virajpet.

The drive takes approximately 45 minutes to an hour. The dam, set against a backdrop of lush greenery, offers a picturesque and peaceful environment.

It's a great spot to enjoy the tranquility of nature and reflect on your journey. The best time to visit is in the morning, when the surroundings are quiet and the water is calm.

Depart for Bangalore via Nagarhole National Park

A bunch of spotted Indian deer in the Indian jungles

After spending some time at Harangi Dam, prepare for your journey back to Bangalore. But before that, a drive through Nagarhole National Park adds a final adventure to your trip. The national park, about 60 kilometers from Harangi Dam, is a sanctuary for wildlife enthusiasts. The drive through the park is a unique experience, offering chances to spot various wildlife species in their natural habitat.

Nagarhole National Park is known for its rich biodiversity, including tigers, leopards, elephants, and a variety of birds. The drive through the park is serene and refreshing, allowing you to immerse yourself in the beauty of the Western Ghats one last time before heading back to the urban landscape.

The drive from Nagarhole to Bangalore covers approximately 220 kilometers and takes about 5 to 6 hours. This route lets you savor the lush landscapes of Karnataka, making the transition from the tranquility of Coorg to the bustling energy of Bangalore.

Day 5 is a blend of serene beauty and wildlife adventure. Visiting Harangi Dam and driving through Nagarhole National Park provide a fitting and memorable conclusion to your Coorg road trip, leaving you with a treasure trove of experiences and memories as you head back to Bangalore.

Budget Friendly Trip To Coorg From Bangalore | Coorg Blog

Coorg Waterfall

Coorg Budget Trip | Coorg Blog – We all know how it feels to be cashless and has that crazy urge to travel. Sometimes we feel all we need is to see new places and feel relaxed.

Well, you don’t always need a lot of money to do that! Since being broke is a thing of my day-to-day being (being pathetic with your finances sucks of course) I had to think of other ways to travel.

Coorg was one such place on my bucket list that had been evading me for ages due to the constant lack of money and a car. Read out my blog post on a backpacking trip to Coorg from Bangalore.

BACKPACKING TRIP TO COORG

So, I came to think about how people who belong to Coorg (Known as the coffee capital of India) must be travelling. Not everyone would be driving there all the time! would they? And obviously, this is India in 2019 we are talking about, we have better connectivity.

Hence, I did a bit of research and the outcome of that was a splendid trip to Coorg on a budget. You can find a local sightseeing tour package in Coorg for about 4000 Rs for a Jeep that can take you around Kushalnagar and Madikeri.

EXCLUSIVE 60% DISCOUNT COUPON

Hey traveler, let’s talk straight- Here is an exclusive coupon code TRAVELESCAPE which you can use on OYO website at the time of checkout & enjoy flat whooping 60% off. No hidden cost, no false promise.

Look, I want you to save money on your travel if you are okay staying in OYO rooms, check out these OYO hotels in Coorg , Remember to put TRAVELESCAPE coupon code at the time of checkout on the OYO website & that’s it

DAY 1: BANGALORE TO MYSORE TO COORG

Boarding a train from majestic in the early hours of the day, we landed up in Mysore by 8:30 am (despite the train running late by 30mins). After having breakfast in the A2B right outside the railway station we took a prepaid auto to the Mysuru bus stand for 35Rs.

You have a choice of the basic of basic buses to the luxury versions (A/C multi axel) that ply regularly between Mysuru and Coorg (Kushalnagar and Madikeri). We chose the simple Karnataka Sarige bus which doesn’t even require pre-booking of the tickets. Hop on finding a seat and sit back and relax.

SUGGESTED BUDGET STAY – Nothing beats then staying with premium hostel chain Zostel Coorg , best rated and dormitory rooms start at Rs500/-. Why not check out the deal and grab them.

It takes about 2hours and 30mins to reach the Kushalnagar bus stand from Mysuru. Since we were staying at Kushalnagar this worked well for us (We left Mysuru around 10:30 am and reached Kushalnagar around 1 pm). Having pre-booked our stay on Airbnb we were pretty much sorted.

PLACES TO VISIT IN KUSHALNAGAR

Namdroling Monastery

  • Namdroling Monastery – the Tibetan monastery also called as the golden temple, is a beautiful sight to behold. The temple can be reached by auto for a cost of about 70Rs. There are no entry fees, but you would have to pay to keep your footwear safe at the footwear counter for 2Rs. You only need this to enter the main sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
  • Nisargadhama — An island formed by the Cauvery river. This place has an entry fee of Rs10 for adults and Rs5 for kids. The Island is accessible via a hanging bridge that rocks while you walk about. There is a boating facility available (paddle boats) for people who are interested in the cost of 200Rs for 4 people. Or 100Rs for two. Entrance to this place is crammed with stores selling you anything from cheap jewelry, souvenirs, chocolates to spices and wines.
  • Dubare Elephant Camp . – This place can again be reached via a boat or if you are adventurous enough by just walking across the river (allowed only when the water levels are low). Being a “not a huge fan of” elephants’ kind of person I chose to walk across the river and back.  Walking and feeling the rush of cool water around you, the adrenaline rushes each time you slip and balance yourself is something that words can never explain.

This was also the place known for river rafting (Currently closed indefinitely).

TOTAL TRIP COST

  • Train from Bangalore to Mysuru in a reserved sleeper class train – Rs170
  • Pre-paid auto from Mysuru railway station to bus stand – Rs 35
  • Mysuru bus stand to Kushalnagar bus stand in a Karnataka Sarige bus – Rs 84

DAY2: KUSHALNAGAR TO MADIKERI (COORG)

Sunset at Raja's Seat

Madikeri is about 30km from Kushalnagar. This is where most of the places to visit in Coorg are.

PLACES TO VISIT IN COORG/MADIKERI

  • Abby Falls – The most famous waterfalls in Coorg. Abby Falls is hidden beautifully in between a lush coffee plantation. A winding stair path leads you to a clearing that is the Abby falls.
  • Mandalpatti trek – this off-road trek to the Mandalpatti viewpoint is a must do. The winding non-existential roads that looks like it ends in the middle of nowhere is mostly accessible by jeeps and some people attempt it on bikes. The view on top is mesmerizing and costs you 50rs per head to get to the viewpoint. Please be sure to get your snacks and water as the trek can make you quite thirsty.
  • Tala Cauvery / Bhagamandala – these are temples and marks the origin of the river Cauvery. A small hole that never dries up and brings out the water from deep within the earth, is where the Cauvery river which is known for quenching the thirsts of people living in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and a share of whose water goes to Kerala. It is a wonder to behold to see something like this on top of a mountain grow to a monstrous size and flow through 2 different states in Southern part of India and ending in the Bay of Bengal. We sure did feel like thanking this dear lady for giving us water. Climbing a couple of hundreds of steps from here would lead you to the viewpoint atop this hill (we gave it a pass since it was mid-noon when we reached there).
  • Nalknad Palace – Warning : If you are expecting something like the Mysuru palace, you will be disappointed. This place is well hidden in between many coffee estates and was used as the hiding place by the kings. It is inconspicuous and the probability of people getting lost on the way is high. But to think of that the place was constructed in the 1700s and consists of a durbar, a room that gets pitch dark, has a secret passageway and two bathrooms is a great achievement.
  • Raja’s seat – This is a viewpoint from where the sunset can be viewed in great splendor. The region around the viewpoint has been developed into a park and has a musical fountain show post-sunset.

TOTAL TRIP COST : Nil since we opted for a two-day package for 4000rs (for the entire vehicle). This is how we managed to go on a Coorg trip on a budget.

BONUS OFFBEAT RECOMMENDATION

Please do visit the Mallali falls if you get the chance. The drive is ecstatic with good roads, eye-soothing scenery the place is worth the visit.

During the season it will be a descending waterfall and during the off-season they let you climb the whole thing which is an adventure in itself. So it’s a win-win and also a lot better than crowded Abbey falls.

ON DUBARE CAMP

P. S. Not because of the elephants ( i felt sorry for them. They were chained ) but because of the river crossing. It’s super exciting and a must-visit. The enthusiasm, frills, the clean water, green surrounding, clean air, and a dip in the water. Perfect!

THINGS TO KNOW

boating at Nisargadhama

Coorg is one of the closest places to reach from Bangalore hence you should expect a crowd where ever you go. It can get warm here during the daytime and the evenings become cold again. So please don’t feel shy to carry something warm with you. Coorg has a vibrant cuisine, all sorts of meat are available here.

PS: There are of course several other places that we have not explored. Also, the agenda behind the trip was to explore Coorg to the best at the lowest possible cost.

Delve Into The History Of Mallalli Falls

Mallalli Falls was not always a tourist destination

Mallalli Falls originates from the Kumardhara River, a chief tributary of the Netravati River. It is believed that pilgrims crossing Kukke Subhramanya Temple in Subhramanya must cross this river to take a holy bath before entering the temple. The total length of this river is about 40 km, as it passes through two major towns: Kukke Subhramanya and Uppinangadi.

Mallalli Falls is a relatively new tourist site compared to other tourist sites in India. It was only in the knowledge of locals that it did not welcome many visitors due to a lack of infrastructure, poor connectivity, and relatively denser forests. It was not until recently that the government upscaled this site by building better roads that ensure better connectivity and increased the number of homestays and resorts around it. Now, visitors can find a comfortable spot to relax and book resorts for an easy stay and easily traverse from any part of the country due to its phenomenal connectivity to the main cities.
