Introduction to the Citi Travel Portal

Accessing the citi travel portal, citi credit cards that earn thankyou points, what to know about the citi travel portal, citi travel portal: your guide to booking and rewards.

Affiliate links for the products on this page are from partners that compensate us and terms apply to offers listed (see our advertiser disclosure with our list of partners for more details). However, our opinions are our own. See how we rate credit cards to write unbiased product reviews .

The information for the following product(s) has been collected independently by Business Insider: Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, Citi Prestige® Card, Citi Custom Cash℠ Card, Citi® Double Cash Card, Citi Rewards+® Card. The details for these products have not been reviewed or provided by the issuer.

  • If you have a Citi credit card that earns ThankYou points, you can book your travel with them.
  • The Citi Travel Portal is like an online travel agency, allowing you to make bookings with ease.
  • You can pay with points (worth 1 cent each), your Citi credit card, or a combination of both.

Citi ThankYou Rewards is a flexible points program that allows you to earn points from eligible Citi credit cards and banking products. You can redeem points in a number of ways, including for travel, cash back, or gift cards.

One of the best ways to use points is for travel, either by transferring Citi ThankYou points to airline partners for award flights (only available with certain Citi credit cards), or through an even easier option available to all program members — the Citi Travel portal.

Citi Travel recently got a big overhaul, and it's now partnered with Booking.com and powered by Rocket Travel by Agoda technology. Here's what to know about the new Citi Travel portal and what to expect if you decide to book.

Overview of the Portal

The Citi Travel Portal is an online travel booking platform that works in a similar way to Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) like Orbitz or Expedia. You can search for flights, hotels, rental cars, and attractions based on your destination, travel dates, and other preferences, and you have the option to pay with Citi ThankYou points, your Citi card, or a combination of both.

Benefits of Booking Through the Portal

Although Citi Travel doesn't get as much attention as American Express Travel or the Chase Ultimate Rewards® Travel Portal , it has many of the same benefits:

  • You can book travel with no blackout dates
  • There's no need to worry about loyalty program award charts or availability
  • Your points are worth a flat 1 cent each toward travel, and you can combine them with cash if you don't have enough for a booking
  • You'll still earn airline miles and elite-qualifying miles when you book flights, even when you pay entirely with points
  • It's possible to pool Citi points from different credit cards (or even share with friends and family who have Citi ThankYou accounts)

A downside to using the Citi Travel Portal is you won't earn points or elite status credit for hotel stays, and you might not have your elite status recognized because it's considered a third-party booking.

If you're looking for the easiest way to cash in Citi points for travel, the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal is a better choice for most people. That said, it's possible to get more than 1 cent per point in value if you skip the Citi Portal and instead transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to an airline or hotel partner for award travel — but that involves more legwork.

The full range of partners is available if you have the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card or Citi Prestige® Card (no longer available to new applicants). Otherwise, JetBlue, Choice, and Wyndham are the only airline and hotel options, with a reduced transfer ratio.

How to Log In

To access the Citi Travel Portal, you must be a Citi customer with a ThankYou rewards account. Once you sign in to your Citi account online and click the "View/Redeem" button in the rewards section, you'll land on a screen with several redemption options. Click "Book Travel" in the lower left-hand corner.

Alternatively, you can get to the same screen by signing in with your Citi login details at ThankYou.com .

Once you click "Book Travel," you'll be prompted to select the Citi card account you want to book with if you have multiple Citi cards. Then you'll land on the main Citi Travel search screen.

How to Book Flights with Citi Travel

To search for flights, click the "Flights" tab and enter your departure and destination airport and dates of travel. You'll also have options to select round-trip or one-way flights, class of service, number of passengers, and if you prefer non-stop flights. Then hit "Search."

Next, you'll see a list of flight search results — starting with your outbound flight — which you can sort by price, number of stops, departure time, arrival time, duration, or "best overall" (cheap, short flights). On the left sidebar, there are also filters for the departure and arrival times, airline, number of stops, price range, and total journey duration. To choose a flight, click on the "Select" button, then repeat the process for your return leg if you've searched for a round-trip itinerary.

Once you've selected your flights, you'll be prompted to enter passenger details and will be given options to upgrade your fare (most folks will skip this step). Then, on the final booking screen, you'll have the opportunity to select your payment method — either using your Citi card, ThankYou points, or a combination of both.

How to Book Hotels with Citi Travel

The process of finding a hotel to book through the Citi Travel portal is similar to searching for flights. After selecting the "Hotels" option from the main menu, enter your destination, stay dates, and the number of guests in the search fields.

The results page allows you to sort by property class, price, distance, hotel name, and recommended results. You can filter by price, class, TripAdvisor rating, amenities, nearby landmarks, and even hotels offering deals. One useful feature is the ability to quickly identify properties that have discounted rates by looking for the "Sale" flag in the corner of the hotel listing.

To find out more about the hotel you're interested in, click on the hotel name and you'll be shown different bed options, rate types with cancellation policies, and available packages (breakfast included, for instance) if applicable. Select "Check out" next to the room you want to book. You'll then be asked for guest details (name, address, phone number, and email).

Once you've entered your information, you'll come to the final booking screen where, again, you can choose your method of payment.

How to Rent a Car with Citi Travel

Searching for a car rental through Citi Travel is similarly easy. Once you've clicked "Cars" on the main menu, enter your pick-up location (you can select a different drop-off location if needed), rental dates and times, and the driver's age.

The results list allows you to sort by price, rental company, or car type.

Once you find a car you like, click on its listing to learn more about the rental and enter the driver's name and details.

On the final booking screen, you'll choose your method of payment — again, your Citi card, ThankYou points, or a combination of both.

How to Book Attractions Through Citi Travel

Select the "Attractions" tab on the main search page, and enter the city name where you want to search.

Depending on the destination, you'll get a list of all kinds of activities — from tours and sightseeing tickets to airport transfers and excursions.

When you click on the attraction, you'll get more details about what's included in the activity.

Click "See options" to choose your activity dates, times, and the number of participants.

Once you select "Choose" you'll have the opportunity to enter your traveler details. Then, you'll be brought to the final booking screen where you can select your payment method.

Before you choose between booking through the Citi Portal or transferring points to a partner for an award flight, be sure to compare the number of points required in each case — and verify that an award flight is actually available before you decide on that route.

Citi offers several different cards that earn Citi ThankYou points:

  • Citi Strata Premier℠ Card: Earn 75,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 in the first three months of account opening
  • Citi Custom Cash℠ Card : Earn $200 cash back, fulfilled as 20,000 ThankYou® Points, after you spend $1,500 on purchases in the first six months of account opening
  • Citi® Double Cash Card
  • Citi Rewards+® Card : Earn 20,000 bonus points after spending $1,500 in the first three months of account opening
  • Citi Prestige® Card: No longer available to new applicants

If you have the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, there's an additional incentive to book through the Citi ThankYou portal. Once per calendar year, cardholders can get $100 off a hotel stay of $500 or more (before taxes and fees) when they book through the Citi portal — whether the stay is booked with points, charged to the Citi Strata Premier℠ Card, or a combination of both.

The Citi Travel Portal is a terrific tool if you're looking for a way to redeem points for flights, hotels, car rentals, and attractions without worrying about blackout dates or fussing with loyalty program award charts. You'll even earn frequent flyer miles and elite credits for flight bookings (but you won't earn hotel points or elite nights on hotel stays, because it's a third-party booking).

Anyone with an eligible Citi ThankYou credit card can redeem their points through the portal at a rate of 1 cent each. Or, if you don't have enough points to cover the entire booking, you can pay with your Citi card in combination with rewards to make up the difference.

Even though using the Citi Travel Portal is easy and convenient, it is usually possible to get more value from your Citi ThankYou points by transferring them to Citi's airline and hotel partners. This method requires jumping through more hoops and searching for award availability, so if you'd rather avoid that inconvenience, the Citi Travel Portal is an ideal booking method.

Citi cardholders can access the travel portal by logging into their online account and navigating to the travel section or directly through the Citi Travel website.

Yes, you can use your Citi points to book flights, hotels, car rentals, and more through the portal. Points can cover all or part of the booking cost.

Typically, bookings made through the portal using your Citi card will earn points according to your card's rewards program.

The portal does not usually charge additional booking fees, but it's always best to review the terms and conditions for any specific charges that may apply.

Yes, you can cancel or modify bookings, but the ability to do so without penalty depends on the specific terms of your booking. Always check the cancellation policy at the time of booking.

Citi's new online travel booking platform allows customers to buy travel with cash or Citi ThankYou points . The portal is called Citi Travel with Booking.com and is managed by the online travel agency.

Now that the portal is live, Citi ThankYou points fans can earn and redeem points for travel and other merchandise in time for summer and beyond.

What to know about the Citi travel portal

1. you can book flights, hotels and car rentals.

The booking portal allows you to book all kinds of travel through the Citi website or mobile app. It includes car rentals, airlines and hotels (1.4 million hotels, to be exact, via Booking.com).

This can be a great way for you to pay for an upcoming trip with cash or to use your Citi ThankYou points to redeem for free or reduced-cost travel. Note that when redeeming your points for airline travel, you are eligible to earn frequent flyer miles. This is a smart money move to take advantage of your points while also growing your mileage balance .

However, when using Citi ThankYou points for hotel stays, you’re not eligible for earning hotel loyalty points or taking advantage of elite status benefits. This is because these hotel stays aren't booked directly through the hotel. Most hotel loyalty programs don’t provide points or perks when booking through third-party websites (including Booking.com, which is running this new Citi Travel platform).

Still, booking hotels via the Citi Travel portal is a good opportunity to redeem points for a stay at a hotel where you don’t have status or in a destination where you can’t earn or take advantage of status.

2. You can pay with points, cash or a combination

The new portal shows 1.4 million hotel reservation options because of its partnership with Booking.com. Plus, you can continue to pay entirely in cash, entirely in points or with a mix of cash and points.

This provides greater value for your points since you don't have to wait until you have enough for a particular redemption. Instead, you can use a combination and put any number of points in your account immediately to work for you.

3. You'll earn bonus points when booking

Between now and Dec. 31, 2025, new and existing cardholders can score bonus points for their travel reservations. Citi Rewards+® Card members earn 5x points when using their cards for hotel, car rentals and attractions booked through CitiTravel.com.

4. It pays to understand how reservations work

When making a reservation through an online travel agency like Booking.com (even under the Citi ThankYou rewards branding), you’ll have to contact the agency about any travel changes or disruptions. It is the travel agency that handles changes instead of the airlines, hotels and other travel partners that you booked travel with.

Citi says that their agents are available 24/7, and that there will be a dedicated Booking.com-backed customer support team for Citi cardholders. Still, some people may find it frustrating that they cannot deal directly with the travel provider since this is a third-party travel agency reservation. Just be aware of this limitation when making any reservation through an online travel agency.

If you want to change or cancel a flight , for example, you’ll have to contact the Citi-dedicated customer service, not the airline.

5. You can redeem points for other purchases, too

You can redeem Citi ThankYou points at other partners, too, including CVS, Choice Hotels and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts among others. There are 180 redemption partners.

The new Citi ThankYou travel portal, recapped

This new portal provides a new option for earning and redeeming Citi ThankYou points with the assistance of Booking.com. The goal is to make it easier to benefit from your points and rack up more when using your Citi credit cards.

The more options the better, we say. When you know the restrictions for using your points and can benefit from the perks of using them, Citi ThankYou points offer exceptional value .

The information related to Citi Prestige® Card has been collected by NerdWallet and has not been reviewed or provided by the issuer or provider of this product or service.

The Citi Prestige® Card is still a valuable part of the premium travel credit card market despite losing numerous perks over the years. Although the card is no longer open to new applicants, its valuable earning rates and remaining perks may still make it an attractive travel rewards credit card for some current cardholders. * Card Rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.

The information for the Citi Prestige has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The Citi Prestige, Citi's most premium travel credit card, has undergone significant changes in the past several years. Improved earning rates in 2019 were coupled with massive devaluations , an annual fee increase to $495, stripped protections and caps on benefit usage.

Then, in mid-2021, Citi stopped accepting new applications for the Citi Prestige . Although this card isn't open to new applicants, current cardholders can continue to use and benefit from the card.

Frequent travelers will be able to get the most out of the earning rates and benefits of the Citi Prestige. With a high $495 annual fee, this card is only worth it if you know you'll take full advantage of its benefits. The Citi Prestige's most valuable perks include:

  • 5 points per dollar spent at restaurants, airlines and travel agencies
  • Two fourth-night-free awards a year
  • An annual travel credit of up to $250
  • Priority Pass Select membership
  • Global Entry or TSA PreCheck enrollment fee credit every five years

If you don't travel frequently, you may be better off with a lower-annual-fee mid-tier travel card such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Citi Strata Premier℠ Card (see rates and fees ). And if you're looking for different top-tier luxury benefits, consider The Platinum Card® from American Express or the Chase Sapphire Reserve® .

Citi Prestige pros and cons

Citi prestige welcome offer.

city bank travel

The Citi Prestige isn't currently available to new applicants. So, you can't apply for this card and earn a sign-up bonus.

However, you could apply for the Citi Prestige's lower-annual-fee sibling, the Citi Strata Premier Card .

And two of the other top travel rewards cards, the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Amex Platinum . For example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve 's 60,000-point bonus (after you spend $4,000 in the first three months of account opening) is worth $1,230, according to TPG valuations . And the Amex Platinum currently offers an 80,000-point welcome offer (after you spend $8,000 on purchases on the card in your first six months of card membership) that we value at $1,600 .

Citi Prestige benefits

As mentioned, Citi eliminated most of its travel and shopping protections and devalued certain perks in 2019. But there is still much to love about the card's offerings.

city bank travel

Fourth night free

The Citi Prestige fourth night free perk has long been considered the most valuable benefit of the Citi Prestige.

The fourth-night-free benefit works like this: Citi will pay for the fourth night of your stay at virtually any hotel when you book through the Citi ThankYou travel portal . However, you can only use this benefit twice each calendar year. The fourth night free is based on your average nightly rate, excluding taxes and fees.

Remember that because bookings must be made through the Citi ThankYou travel portal, you generally won't earn hotel loyalty points or receive elite benefits. And be sure to compare prices with several other booking methods, as the fourth-night free perk won't always provide the best value .

Related: How valuable is the Citi Prestige's 4th-night free when booking mid-tier hotels through Citi ThankYou?

Up to $250 travel credit

Citi Prestige cardholders get a travel credit of up to $250 every calendar year for travel purchases. Specifically, you'll automatically get a statement credit for the first $250 of travel purchases you make each year.

This credit applies to a wide variety of travel purchases , including purchases from airlines, hotels, car rental agencies, travel agencies, travel aggregators, tour operators, commuter transportation, ferries, commuter railways, subways, taxis, limousines, car services, passenger railways, cruise lines, bridge and road tolls, parking lots, garages and bus lines.

If you're able to maximize this credit, it effectively lowers the $495 annual fee to $245.

Global Entry statement credit

I love having Global Entry — it's saved me from standing in countless hours of TSA security and U.S. Customs lines. Citi Prestige cardmembers receive up to $100 credit every five years that can be applied toward a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee. And when the Global Entry fee goes up to $120 in October, Citi will raise this credit value to match the higher cost.

city bank travel

Several other cards also offer a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry statement credit . But if you've already enrolled in either of the two programs, you can use the credit for a family member or friend's application .

Related: Global Entry fee hike is coming

Priority Pass lounge access

As a Citi Prestige cardholder, you'll also get access to the Priority Pass lounge network . The Priority Pass network includes more than 1,400 airport lounges worldwide.

Citi Prestige cardholders get a Priority Pass Select membership that provides complimentary lounge access for the cardholder, immediate family members, and up to two guests. There are some excellent Priority Pass lounges in the U.S. , but most of the best Priority Pass lounges are outside the U.S.

Related: How valuable is a Priority Pass lounge membership?

Cellphone protection

When you pay your monthly cellphone bill with your Citi Prestige Card, you'll get protection against theft and damage for up to five phone lines.

city bank travel

The Citi Prestige doesn't offer bonus points on cellphone services , but you may want to pay your monthly cellphone bill with your Citi Prestige, to take advantage of this protection.

Related: Credit cards that cover cellphone loss and damage

Extended warranty and purchase protection

Citi Prestige cardholders get extended warranty and purchase protection when buying eligible items with their card. While these can be valuable benefits, many other cards also offer similar protections.

Earning points on the Citi Prestige

An essential part of evaluating a card is assessing how easily you can earn points through spending. Luckily, earning is one area where the Citi Prestige has improved.

To coincide with the launch of Citi Travel with Booking.com , Prestige cardholders can earn 10 points per dollar on bookings for hotels, rental cars and eligible attractions when booking through the portal through June 30.

city bank travel

After that, you'll return to the following standard earning rates:

  • 5 Citi ThankYou points per dollar spent at restaurants, airlines and travel agencies (9% return based on TPG's valuations )
  • 3 points per dollar spent at hotels and cruise lines (5.4% return)
  • 1 point per dollar spent on other purchases (1.8% return)

However, remember that Citi removed travel protections from its cards in 2019. So, despite the effective 9% return on airfare, I usually use a credit card that provides travel insurance when booking flights. And I typically use a hotel credit card or the Chase Sapphire Reserve when paying for hotel stays. As such, I usually only use my Citi Prestige at restaurants, cafes and bars.

Redeeming points on the Citi Prestige

Citi ThankYou points can be redeemed in various ways, of which transferring to an airline or hotel partner is the most valuable option.

city bank travel

You can also use your Citi ThankYou points to redeem for travel through Citi's travel portal . Doing so will usually provide less value than transferring to airline partners. But, depending on your travel goals, there may be times when doing so works best for you.

Additionally, you can redeem points for gift cards, use them to pay at select online retailers, get cash back or make charitable contributions.

Transferring points on the Citi Prestige

You'll likely get the most value from your points if you transfer them to Citi's 18 airline and hotel partners .

Which cards compete with the Citi Prestige?

The most direct competitors to the Citi Prestige are two other premium travel cards .

  • If you want to maximize travel points-earning: The Chase Sapphire Reserve charges a $550 annual fee but offers generous earning rates on travel and dining as well as benefits like a $300 annual travel credit, a Global Entry/TSA PreCheck application fee credit every four years and a Priority Pass Select membership. For more information, read our full review of the Sapphire Reserve.
  • If you want loads of extra perks: The Amex Platinum charges a $695 annual fee (see rates and fees ) but offers a suite of luxury benefits like unparalleled lounge access, an airline fee statement credit of up to $200 per year, monthly U.S. Uber Cash of up to $200 per year, biannual Saks statement credits of up to $100 per year, elite status with Marriott and Hilton and more. Enrollment is required for select benefits. For more information, read our full review of the Amex Platinum.
  • If you want a premium card with a lower annual fee: The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card has a moderate $395 annual fee (see rates and fees ) and earns 10 miles per dollar on hotels and car rentals booked via Capital One Travel, 5 miles per dollar on flights booked via Capital One Travel and 2 miles per dollar on everything else. In addition, cardholders receive $300 back in credits annually for bookings made through Capital One Travel and access to Priority Pass and Capital One lounges. For more information, read our full review of the Venture X .

Is the Citi Prestige worth it?

The card can be worth the cost for those who use most of the Citi Prestige's benefits. When used strategically, the fourth-night-free benefit can still provide hundreds of dollars in value. The $250 annual travel credit is easy to use, plus the card's earnings on dining and flights and shopping protections can provide significant value.

Bottom line

The Citi Prestige isn't a clear-cut choice for everyone. While it offers some valuable benefits, many of them overlap with other premium credit cards. As such, it's worth carefully considering how much value you get from the Citi Prestige Card when your annual fee posts.

The railway station of Novosibirsk, Siberia's largest city.

Siberia is a vast geographical region that accounts for 77% of Russia's land area and 27% of its population. Siberia, which is also known as North Asia, has been a part of the nation of Russia since the 17th century. The Siberian territory stretches from the Ural Mountains to the drainage divide between the Arctic and Pacific Oceans. The region also extends from the Arctic Ocean to the north-central hills of Kazakhstan to include the national borders of both China and Mongolia. Siberia has an area of 5,100,000 square miles and is home to approximately 40 million inhabitants. With about 7.8 inhabitants per square mile, Siberia is one of the most sparsely populated regions in the world.

The Largest Siberian Cities

Of the 12 largest cities in Siberia, Novosibirsk tops the list with almost 1.5 million inhabitants while Tomsk is at the bottom of the list with a little over half a million inhabitants according to the 2010 Census. Only the top three cities mentioned above comprise of a million and over inhabitants whereas half of the list consists of cities with half a million people. The other large cities in Siberia include Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Vladivostok, Irkutsk, Tyumen, Khabarovsk, Novokuznetsk and Kemerovo. Below are the top three leading cities in Siberia regarding population.

Novosibirsk

With a population of 1,473,754 according to the 2010 Census, Novosibirsk is the largest city in Siberia. Novosibirsk is the third largest city by population in Russia behind Moscow and St. Petersburg. The city is the administrative center of both the Siberian Federal District and Novosibirsk Oblast ("oblast" is a name given to an administration region in Russia). Novosibirsk is situated on the Ob River banks next to the Ob River Valley in the southwestern region of Siberia. The city is also near a large water reservoir created by the dam which supports the Novosibirsk Hydro Power Plant. Novosibirsk covers an area of 193.9 square miles and is divided into ten districts. Novosibirsk was founded in 1893 and attained its city status on January 10, 1904.

Located in the southwestern region of Siberia about 1,389 miles from the city of Moscow is Omsk the administrative center of Omsk Oblast, Russia. Omsk has a population of 1,154,116 inhabitants making it the second largest city in Siberia behind only Novosibirsk. On a national level, Omsk is the seventh largest city by size. Omsk was founded on August 2, 1716 but attained its city status in 1782.

Chelyabinsk

Chelyabinsk is the third largest city in Siberia behind Novosibirsk and Omsk with 1,130,132 inhabitants according to the 2010 Census. The city is located on the border of Europe and Asia about 130 miles to the south of Yekaterinburg, on the Miass River just east of the Ural Mountains. The city is also the administrative center of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia. Chelyabinsk was founded in 1736 attaining its city status in 1787.

A Brief History Of Siberia's Cities

Most cities in Siberia started to appear as a result of the Russians tsars' decrees. The cities that were established in places with beneficial industry, trade, and defense characteristics began to flourish. The growth of cities in Siberia was attributed to population and was majorly supported by economic factors.

Great Deal: Get 50,000 Bonus Miles With Citi Prestige

Business class flights for cheap.

Paying S$196.20 for 30,000 miles works out to a cost of just 0.65 cents each . Personally, I would buy miles around 1 cent each so 0.65 cents is a fantastic rate for me. Also, 30,000 miles is more than enough for a business class flight to somewhere like Thailand via Singapore Airlines.

In fact, it is also enough for a business class trip to places like Taiwan or Japan if you transfer the points to an airline like EVA Air. EVA Air’s frequent flyer programme is called Infinity MileageLands and it can get you to many destinations in Asia for just 25,000 miles one-way or 50,000 miles for a return trip!

Again, I shared more in my short-form video ( TikTok and Instagram ), and remember to stay subscribed for a more in-depth piece on stretching your miles.

What to spend on?

You need to meet the minimum spend to qualify for rewards while noting there are transactions which are excluded. Read the terms and conditions carefully when applying.

Generally, retail transactions like buying stuff or dining out are very safe. Things like bill payments, education expenses and CardUp or ipaymy become a lot iffier and depends on the bank your card is from.

Do check out this article on what you can spend on to meet the minimum spend:
