Unforgettable First Real Cave Adventure

There are not enough adjectives to accurately describe how much fun this cave tour was. Firstly, it isn't the typical type of cave tour that usually immediately comes to mind. This is a down-and-dirty, crawling around, 6-year-old-you-dream type of cave adventure. Initially, I was slightly nervous about this tour when my best friend suggested it, mainly because tight spaces sometimes ignite claustrophobia that is typically non-existent. But it was for her birthday, so naturally, I wasn't going to let my fear stop a potentially awesome experience. Brent was our guide, and we had a solo adventurer, Adam, join our group. So the four of us set off into the wild known, and from the beginning, I was immediately put at ease thanks to Brent's chill demeanor and great vibe. The hike to the cave was basically textbook. Gorgeous cool, sunny day. There was very little snow to deal with, and we made it up well under the 45-minute mark. The cave was nothing less than extraordinary. For the avid thrill-seeker-adventurer, it was everything someone who was new to this could want. The pace was perfect, not rushed whatsoever. Brent took us to a few areas where most groups don't typically go only because they're challenging for most people. Our conversations between the four of us were never dull, Brent was a knowledge powerhouse, and he always gave us the option of navigating an area on our own or with suggestions from him all in the name of increasing the challenge. The cave had numerous areas requiring a solid step and firm hand placement. There were also areas where it took a level head and calm demeanor to navigate. Even with my random claustrophobia, I still opted to tackle the areas that were optional due to the higher level of difficulty. I felt good the entire time knowing Brent wouldn't lead us anywhere he didn't think we could conquer. If you're going to visit Canmore, or even near it, I highly suggest going on this cave adventure. The price is absolutely worth it all thanks to the professionalism of the crew, the chill vibe, the time spent in the cave, and the outright adventure level of it.

We had an above and beyond experience on this trip! Annie was an outstanding guide, our family and friends couldn’t have dreamt of a better way to spend the day. This cave is a hidden gem that was surprisingly outstanding! I can’t wait to go back and do the advanced repelling!

This an amazing experience! Well with the money. Great pace for the trip, not too rushed so we got to explore and appreciate this wonder.

Awesome adventure with an awesome and very knowledgeable guide (John). Unforgettable experience and the highlight of our vacation trip to the Banff/Canmore area.

Amazing adventure tour! The hike to get to the cave was interesting and gave nice views of the area. The tour itself is definitely memorable. So many neat things to see. The squeezes were my favorite. Definitely recommend this tour for adventurous people who are looking for something unique to do in the area.

While booking, we had a bit of a mix-up , but Lenora made everything work out great! We had a fantastic trip and John was a great guide. We can't wait to book another trip and definitely recommend! Thanks.

An overall memorable experience

My partner and I did the explorer tour and had a great time. It was thrilling, challenging and an all around one of a time experience. Unfortunately, towards the end of our tour, my partner was ill. We were grateful for our guide Tiffany’s help in navigating this but later on, we felt she became distant with us which was unfortunate. We appreciated every aspect of this tour and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lifelong memory.

This was awesome. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but as soon as I called to book the tour, the same day, I was greeted with a friendly voice on the other line who was so helpful. Once my friend and I arrived to the office for our orientation, we were fitted for our gear and given the information needed to complete the caving safely. The hike was beautiful our guide Tamara was amazing. She was so knowledgeable and just a fun person to be around. She made everyone feel comfortable and created a really fun and memorable experience for us all. Upon entering the cave, there were some challenging portions, but nothing that anyone had any problem accomplishing. It was very cool to learn about everything inside of the cave and so much more from our knowledgeable guide. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for adventure. Once you get inside the cave, you’re so excited to keep going. I absolutely loved it, and I look forward to coming back again someday.

My partner and I took on the Adventure Tour, despite never having spent any time in a cave before. Fortunately we were in good hands with Canmore Cave Tours. Orientation was a snap, and under the guidance of the extremely capable and knowledgeable Brent we were off. The short hike to the cave entrance was a good walk, stopping periodically to learn something new about our surroundings. Once into the cave, it is immediately clear you aren't in Kansas anymore - the sharp drop off to the Bonebed makes that clear. Throughout the entire experience, whether rappelling (entirely new to us) down 18m or quite literally squeeeeezing through some of the tighter passages, we always felt safe and well taken care of by our guide. The challenge in the experience comes in overcoming your sense of what you're capable of - Canmore Cave Tours makes the rest easy. It's a singular experience (unless you're a caver, I suppose) and one you'll want to tell everyone about afterwards. Don't plan on spending much of your time in the cave upright on two feet, and make sure you're selective about what you bring with you. I brought my phone with me to take pictures, but I had to be cautious moving it from pocket to pocket as necessary - various passages will have you crawling on your stomach, wiggling on your back, or sidling through vertical passages sideways. That rock is hard, just be careful. Do skip the extra large coffee on the way, you won't be seeing a bathroom for a while. Finally, there will be an option to add a book when you buy your tickets. I did it, and I'm glad I did -- it's a proper book, hard covered and even includes a fold out map (perfect as a supplement as you narrate your trip later to others). It's a great souvenir and compliment to the trip, full of interesting info on Rat's Nest Cave, Grotto Mountain and cave geology in general.

This trip was amazing. Our tour guide Jon was very professional and knowledgeable, while having a very fun yet relaxing demeanour, which made us feel very safe and comfortable for our first time exploring a cave. He was also fantastic at catering to everyone in the group, so that everyone had a unique experience that suited their comfort level. The cave itself was fantastic. I had been wanting to do this activity for a while and am so happy that we finally did it. I would recommend this activity to everyone who is considering doing it. Words truly can not describe how surreal of an experience it is. We watched The Descent the night before, to add a little extra thrill. 10/10 one of my favourite experiences to date.

Our family went on an amazing journey to the center (or close to it) of Grotto Mountain on the Canmore Rat’s Nest Cave Adventure Tour. It was a fantastic experience. Squeezing through narrow passages, repelling down 15+ metres, exploring the Grand Gallery as well as the fantastic Grotto area. Our group was terrific. Cheering and supporting each other as we slid, literally, our way through a large portion of the tour. Our guide John was excellent. His humour and information were on point as well as his commitment to our safety. Much appreciated. Outside the cave the scenery was beautiful of course, it is Canmore after all. It was definitely a bucket list adventure.

Going caving was not something I ever thought I would want to do, but I am so glad we did the Adventure Tour with John! My husband and I went with my in-laws and not only was it a super fun experience, it was also very educational! From rappelling, shimmying, and butt-scooting everywhere, to learning about geo-chemistry throughout the cave, John made it an experience to remember. You could tell he was passionate about his work and went the extra mile to make sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying themselves. Cannot recommend John and Canmore Cave Tours enough!
