black sabbath tour 2023

An Intro by Rob Dwyer

Welcome to the Tour Date Archive!

Our mission here is to document every known gig date that Black Sabbath performed from their earliest incarnations as Polka Tulk and Earth to their most recent and sadly final THE END tour in 2017.  This has proved to be a challenging project requiring at least a decade of research that is still very much ongoing.  It is by no means 100% complete or accurate, nor will it probably ever be.  Still, it is our aim to provide the most accurate and useful database for Black Sabbath’s history anywhere on the Internet.

If you do happen to notice any missing or incorrect information on these pages, please feel free to send us an e-mail.  Since we need to confirm any new information for inclusion, please provide any supporting evidence you might have, such as scans of ticket stubs, handbills, posters or any other items that supports your claim.  You are also welcome to share your memories or even reviews of these concerts, since some facts may be impossible to provide in a tangible form.

black sabbath tour 2023

That said, I do try my give each and every contribution my undivided attention when research time avails itself to me.  I have greatly appreciated the input of everyone who has contributed to this research and will make those acknowledgements elsewhere in his section very soon.

Please be aware that your submissions and corrections will not immediately appear on these pages.  Due to the nature of our new database system, we must process these updates in batches.  I wish there were an easier way for us to do this, but unfortunately it’s the nature of the beast we’re working with (Gigpress).  Each update requires a coordinated effort between myself and Joe which is fairly time consuming for each of us.  Additionally, I’m still in the midst of converting my data over to this new system.  Once this conversion has been completed, future updates should be a bit more frequent and less painless for us to do.

Now for the good news!  We will be doing a fairly comprehensive update of the entire tour dates section in 2018!!  It’s been many years since we’ve made any revisions in this section.  Over the past year, I’ve added countless gigs, updates and corrections to the information we originally had.  We will also be adding additional show data (ticket prices, venue information, sold out show info) that wasn’t included with prior versions of these tour listings.

Thank you for your patience with us and for all of the great help we’ve received.  Cheers!

We’re always on the lookout for more materials.  If you have concert pictures, ticket stubs, or tour advertisements, I’d love to see them and use them here.  Send materials to [email protected] – we can handle just about any kind of file attachment.  One small favor if you send something via email.  Send two emails.  One with the attachment, and another letting us know you’re sending it (that way I can check my spam software filters – frequently file attachment emails get killed, and I need to rescue them).

P.S. – DO NOT INQUIRE ABOUT ANY NEW TOUR DATES!  As of 2017, Black Sabbath has already announced they will no longer be playing any more concert tours.  If there any exceptions along the way, they probably be mentioned on the News page first, as this section will not be updated on a frequent or regular basis.  Any inquiries about new shows will simply be ignored, so please don’t waste your time or our time in asking that question.

MOBILE DEVICE NOTE: The actual pages of dates might look really strange on your device, depending on what it is.  Given the current nature of this data, there’s no easy fix at this time for that.  Please use a desktop browser to make use of the tour archives if what you see on your mobile looks strange.

Black Sabbath Announces ‘Live Evil’ 40th-Anniversary Reissue

Black Sabbath will commemorate their first official live LP,  Live Evil , with a remixed and remastered 40th-anniversary deluxe reissue.

Live Evil (40th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition) will hit shelves on June 2 and is available to preorder now as a four-CD set, a four-LP set and digitally. The new sets will feature two versions of the album: one remastered by Andy Pearce and one remixed from the original analog multi-tracks by longtime band associate Wyn Davis.

The physical versions will also include an illustrated hardback book featuring new liner notes and replicas of the concert book and poster from the  Mob Rules tour.

Black Sabbath is previewing the  Live Evil reissue with a freshly mixed "The Mob Rules." You can hear the performance and see the full track listing below.

Live Evil marked the third and final release from Black Sabbath Mark II during Ronnie James Dio 's first tenure with the band. The singer joined the metal legends following Ozzy Osbourne 's ouster and helped resuscitate their career with 1980's critically acclaimed  Heaven and Hell and 1981's  Mob Rules . Soon, however, Dio began to butt heads with guitarist Tony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler , who accused the singer of sneaking into the studio at night to remix  Live Evil behind their backs.

"Something had come to a head and it was the whole avoiding confrontation thing, which Geezer and Tony specialize in," Dio said in Mick Wall's  Symptom of the Universe . "Eventually Geezer phones me and says, 'I don't think this is working out. We really want Tony to produce the album on his own.' Now I know this kind of cryptic talk, so I say, 'So if you don't want me involved with this album, are you saying it's over then?' And Geezer says, 'Well, er ... yeah, I suppose so.' They could never just tell you straight. It was all a device to force me out."

Dio subsequently formed his  eponymous band and released the landmark  Holy Diver . He reunited with Black Sabbath for 1992's  Dehumanizer , and the same lineup — also featuring drummer Vinny Appice — released  The Devil You Know under the Heaven & Hell moniker in 2009.

The Godfather of Heavy Metal Ozzy Osbourne has reached legendary heights, first as the frontman of pioneering act Black Sabbath and later for his electrifying solo material.

Born in Birmingham, UK, Ozzy was a child troubled by problems such as dyslexia and ADD but one listen of the Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’ was enough to set him on the path towards rock and roll greatness. After leaving school at just 15, Ozzy worked various jobs and even dabbled with crime before he lent his vocal talents to Geezer Butler, Tommy Iommi and others in forming Black Sabbath in 1969.

Taking inspiration from the Occult and the joy of being scared, the band developed a gloomy, blues influenced style of music which was all tied together with Ozzy’s eerie vocal style. Their sound was met with unexpected successes and their second album went on to deliver enduring rock staples like ‘Paranoid’, ‘Iron Man’ and ‘War Pigs’.

The band continued to ride high throughout the 70s however continuing internal tensions, particularly between Tommy and Ozzy, led to his departure in 1979. Ozzy wasted no time in picking up where he left off and released ‘Blizzard of Oz’ the following year and eventually turned 4 times platinum boosted by singles like ‘Crazy Train’.

Ozzy continued to have success both with his solo material and later in reforming with Black Sabbath however many people now know him for more than his music. Him and his family starred in the groundbreaking reality show ‘The Osbournes’ which showed Ozzy at his eccentric best and has made him a pop culture hero to many.

Live reviews

Ozzy Osbourne truly is, for my money at least, one of Britain’s great renaissance men; the frontman of the band who, frankly, invented heavy metal, a comedic genius without compare (“Sharon...how old am I again, Sharon?”) and somebody whose bravery in sacrificing his own body in the name of self-prescribed chemical experimentation is rivaled only by his only serious competitor for the title of world’s first immortal man, Keith Richards. After a decidedly uneven solo career that by now has spanned several decades, he found himself thrust out on his own again back in 2012, when Tony Iommi’s cancer diagnosis forced the cancellation of Black Sabbath’s summer touring plans. Thankfully, Ozzy being who he is, he had no shortage of comrades to bring in; he rounded up the most recent incarnation of his own band - featuring current Sabbath sticksman Tommy Clufetos behind the kit - and called in favours from high-profile contemporaries at select dates on what became the Ozzy and Friends tour. Slash, Zakk Wylde and Geezer Butler helped out along the way, and this now being a solo tour, it allowed the setlists to expand to include both classic Sabbath material and the finest cuts from Ozzy’s own catalogue, including ‘Mr. Crowley’, ‘Bark at the Moon’ and ‘Crazy Train’. If nothing else, it proved that he’s still capable of commanding crowds based on his own name alone; I’m quite convinced he’ll live forever, so there should be the opportunity to catch a solo gig before too long.

“Let’s have a fucking wild time tonight!” The Prince of Darkness leaned forward and gripped the mic stand with his painted black fingers while six brilliant flames shot several feet into the air behind him. “You ain’t fucking loud enough! I can’t hear you!” It wouldn’t be surprising if Ozzy Osbourne actually is deaf at 67 years old, but the whole thing was just an unnecessary ruse to get the audience amped up for what would likely be Black Sabbath’s last show in the Mile High City. The crowd was happy to oblige though. In fact, the 18,000+ people were already on their feet and screaming before the band even appeared. A giant animated Satan stalked the screen that ran the length of the stage before Osbourne, Iommi, and Butler were joined by Tommy Clufetos to split the night open with the eponymous title track from their debut album. The introductory sounds of thunder, rain, church bells, and dread were familiar to any self-respecting connoisseur of heavy music, but that didn’t stop chills from rattling spines as Ozzy conjured the figure in black once again. Kids seeing Sabbath for the first time were chaperoned by parents who had been seeing them for half a century, but any feelings of safety and security were immediately smothered under a blanket of doom as the Godfathers of Metal presided over their own funeral. - See more at: http://ilistensoyoudonthaveto.com/2016/02/20/black-sabbath-02-15-16-pepsi-center/#sthash.slLhXXpD.dpuf

The Ozzy show at Jiffy lube Live on September 14th 2018 was utterly amazing. I will admittedly say Stone Sour did nothing for me and I am sure Ozzy could have pulled a better opener. I am pretty sure there are many metal bands from the 70s up till now that would damn near kill to perform with him.

Ozzy's set might as well been a greatest hits live performances. I had a few friends make comments that they didn't want to go thinking his advanced age would degrade their memory of him and his music. Well they were 100% wrong as soon as he opens his mouth to sing it is like the years just disappear his voice damn near matches when the song was originally recorded and is running and jumping around on stage like a 20 something year old.

Zakk Wylde has to be one of if not my favorite guitarist. The whole show including what was probably damn near a 25 minute solo he played in the crowd was amazing.

To the effects team with the lighting and designs on the stage back drop they were amazing. Both War Pigs and Crazy train definitely stood out compared to the rest of them but all of them were excellent.

The father of dark metal and reality TV car crash Ozzy Osbourne is one of the world's most globally recognised celebrities and rightly so. The frontman of Black Sabbath and matriarch of the famous Osbournes has had a varied career, spending a large majority of it directly in the spotlight yet now he is sober, clean and a stronger performer than ever.

During his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction, many described Ozzy's performance as slurred, disengaged and sluggish whereas now he attacks fan favourites such as 'I Don't Want to Change The World' and commands his band like the most gothic conductor of all time. He also has a fantastically dry wit, easily making a thousand strong crowd fall about laughing between songs. This differentiation in atmosphere keeps the audience engaged all night and the man himself clearly indicates when he expects applause, sing-alongs or the ever present mosh pits. Although no bats were harmed during tonight's show, it is fair to say Ozzy appears more outrageous than ever and with a clear head he is able to focus his talents on the live performance.

I waited 42 years to watch BLACK SABBATH perform

On February 23, 2016, I had the opportunity to see BLACK SABBATH Live and in Concert at the BELL CENTER in Montreal Quebec Canada.

I was approximately 15 rows from the stage and not once since they took the stage did I sit down.

I was drinking alcohol and drugs when I began listening to BLACK SABBATH but when I saw them I had close to 31 years of Sobriety.

My arms were pumping, waving side to side, head was banging, whistling, singing loudly, air guitaring, drumming.

Being able to watch BLACK SABBATH LIVE was a Grateful Experience.

The two things that did not happen was 1) catching a pick from Tommy Iommi 2) Meting the band in person and shaking their hand.

It would have been an Honour to have met them in person.

The LIVE CONCERT was 100% GREAT.

This show was excellent! And let me tell you the truth about it. It was Ozzy the crowd came to see. Everybody loves Ozzy Osbourne! I saw Ozzy's Diary of a Mad Man tour two or three times, it was so good. It was right at the time Randy Rhodes was killed. Ozzy put on a good show then and he a showman still to this day. He only missed lyrics in one song that I could tell and I am 57 and had sabotage on 8 track when I was 13. But, Ozzy is 67 years old and has the right to change the words to his songs if he feels of it. May the

Almighty God, the Creator of Heaven and earth, the Creator of you and me bless Ozzy Osbourne. Amen! We love you Ozzy and Black Sabbath!

Judas Priest decided to cancel almost whole European tour in 2018 (except one show in Paris, Junuary 2018) when Ozzy Osbourne informed about his health problem. I encountered many negative comments on-line from fans who wanted to see Judas Priest alone. To be honest, I also preferred to watch Priest than watch nobody. But apparently Judas Priest felt a need to wait for their friend and play concert together with Ozzy later on. We will become the most happy people on Planet Earth on the day of their show because we will witness such a beautiful sign of respect for history and tradition of heavy metal.

The show was pretty good. Of course, Ozzy's voice isn't nearly as good as it used to be, but I was thoroughly surprised that it did sound pretty decent, better than it did on Black Sabbath's 13 album. The stage setup was pretty interesting, the videos playing behind Ozzy were neat. The best part was during the solo at the end of War Pigs. Zakk Wylde walked up the isles that the audience walks down to get to their seats, and played in front of a group of people. The drummer was fantastic as well. Overall, I would recommend seeing Ozzy on this tour.

The show started with phenomenal Rival Sons. The arena was very surprised by the whole band. They played 10 songs and every single song was amazing. But then, after 15 minute break the real show started. When Black Sabbath came on the stage, the arena went crazy. Ozzy's vocals? Not that great. But that is just him! He sang like he was 30 years old. It was amazing. But the only bad thing was that the show was only 100 minutes. But c'mon, they are 70 years old!!!

jorgi-hraba’s profile image

The show was incredible. I witnessed a living legend singing, dancing, showing lots of love to the audience. Even the Moscow crowd (Russian people don't usually go crazy at any events) went absolutely wild. Some people call Mr. Osbourne too old, and he might be, but you won't see any old men on the stage! What you are going to see is true professionalism, huge energy, amazing performance and great, great people.

ZAKK SABBATH has been playing sporadic shows since 2014 with its take on the Birmingham four's early songs.

Zakk told Rolling Stone about performing SABBATH 's classic material: "Going back to high-school keg parties, we'd be playing songs by RUSH , SABBATH , [ Jimi ] Hendrix , whatever [in a cover band], and one person would sing the RUSH stuff, someone could do THE DOORS , and I'd end up doing the SABBATH or Ozzy stuff. It's hilarious to me, because we were 17 years old playing keg parties at a friend's house and now I'm [56] years old and I'm still playing 'N.I.B.' and SABBATH songs at keg parties, except there's a couple more people."

In September 2020, ZAKK SABBATH released its spectacular tribute to the Birmingham four, a faithful yet supercharged rendition of BLACK SABBATH 's first album, via Magnetic Eye Records .

Exactly 50 years later after the release of the original album, ZAKK SABBATH celebrated the first chapter in the SABBATH catalog with a reverently rendered tribute, simply titled "Vertigo" . Faithfully recorded in the spirit of the original, live in the studio and with a film crew documenting the process, the session culminated in a new version of a landmark album that celebrates the greatest heavy metal band of all time and the record that started it all.

"We recorded a live EP and were wondering what we could do next as a cover band, so the 50th album anniversary came just at the right time", explained Blasko regarding ZAKK SABBATH 's decision to go studio. "Compared to 'Paranoid' , which is almost like a best-of record, the bulk of the material on 'Black Sabbath' is deep-cut, really experimental stuff that was never thoroughly explored, so that was a challenge, not to forget that we wanted to meet our own high standards."

Describing the DIY process as "very productive," the three respectfully added their own flair to make for a slightly different flavor, also revisiting various live renditions and "extending a solo here or slowing things down because that's what they tended to do on stage."

Ozzy Osbourne cancels 2023 tour dates, says spinal injury means his 'touring days have ended'

Singer Ozzy Osbourne performs at halftime during the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 8, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

Heavy metal legend Ozzy Osbourne announced the cancellation of his 2023 tour dates in the U.K. and continental Europe.

Osbourne issued a statement early Wednesday saying damage to his spine suffered in an accident four years ago will prevent him from touring.

“I am honestly humbled by the way you’ve all patiently held onto your tickets for all this time, but in all good conscience, I have now come to the realization that I’m not physically capable of doing my upcoming European/UK tour dates, as I know I couldn’t deal with the travel required,” Osbourne said.

The 74-year-old Grammy winner and former vocalist for the metal band Black Sabbath said “my singing voice is fine” but said he remained physically weak following three operations, stem cell treatments, physical therapy and Hybrid Assistive Limb treatment, which uses a robotic exoskeleton to help improve movement and balance.

He thanked his family, fans, band and crew members and fellow metal pioneers Judas Priest.

“Never would I have imagined that my touring days would have ended this way,” Osbourne said. “My team is currently coming up with ideas for where I will be able to perform without having to travel from city to city and country to country.”

Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, the statement said.

Osbourne  previously canceled tour dates  in Europe and North America in 2019 due to health problems, including a “bad fall” in which he said he injured vertebrae in his neck.

The singer, who enjoyed solo success after leaving Black Sabbath, announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a nervous system disorder that affects movement.

Osbourne and the other three members of Black Sabbath were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. Osbourne and his family, including his wife, Sharon, and two of his three children were the stars of their own reality show called “The Osbournes.”

In the second of three Birmingham-focussed commissions, Carlos Acosta was drawn to both the band’s work and its musical legacy as the originators of Heavy Metal. This full-evening ballet promises to be a unique undertaking with three composers and three choreographers, led by renowned Choreographer Pontus Lidberg (whose work has been performed by the Swedish Royal Ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet) and Composer Chris Austin (whose work includes orchestrating the White Stripes music for Wayne McGregor’s Chroma ) working alongside award-winning writer Richard Thomas ( Jerry Springer, The Opera ) to create an extraordinary metal symphony over three acts. Black Sabbath themselves have been closely involved in developing this unique collaboration.

Sparks fly in this intriguing new response to Black Sabbath’s music and legacy – the first true heavy metal ballet experience.

Live Evil (40th Anniversary Super Deluxe)

BLACK SABBATH

LIVE EVIL (40TH ANNIVERSARY SUPER DELUXE)

4-CD And 4-LP Sets Feature Original Album Remastered Plus New Mix Of Full Album

Available June 2nd From Rhino

New Mix Of “The Mob Rules” Available Digitally

LOS ANGELES – Black Sabbath’s first official live album,  Live Evil , celebrates its 40th anniversary this year with a new Super Deluxe Edition that introduces newly remixed and remastered versions of the acclaimed double album.

LIVE EVIL (40th ANNIVERSARY SUPER DELUXE EDITION)  will be released on June 2 as a 4-CD set for $59.98, a 4-LP set for $99.98, and digitally. The collections feature two versions of the legendary album: a newly remastered version by Andy Pearce along with a new mix created from the original analog multi-tracks by longtime band associate Wyn Davis. The physical versions also come with illustrated hardback books that include new liner notes and replicas of the concert book and poster from the Mob Rules tour. The new mix of “The Mob Rules” is available today digitally.

A new era of Black Sabbath began in 1979 when singer Ronnie James Dio joined the band, along with founding members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, to launch a new incarnation of the iconic heavy metal band.

The newly minted quartet debuted in 1980 with Heaven and Hell, a platinum-certified smash that won over fans of the original lineup. Halfway through the album’s tour, Ward left and was replaced by Vinny Appice. When the tour ended in 1981, the group decamped to Los Angeles and quickly recorded Sabbath’s 10th studio album, Mob Rules. Released in November 1981, the album would be certified gold. While touring for the album, the band announced plans to record several shows for what would become its first official concert album.

In the extensive liner notes that accompany  LIVE EVIL (40th ANNIVERSARY SUPER DELUXE EDITION) , Hugh Gilmour writes: “The ten-month Mob Rules tour was certainly a very successful one, resurrecting their reputation not only as a band that could fill major venues, but one that could sell plenty of vinyl and cassettes too. Black Sabbath Mk 2 had given their record label two best-selling LPs and were about to present a third.”

When Live Evil arrived in 1983, the double album was a commercial and critical triumph, reaching #13 in the U.K. and #37 on the Billboard Top 200. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive, including one from influential heavy metal magazine Kerrang! that hailed it as “one of the greatest live albums of all time.”

The recordings capture the ferocious chemistry and dark magic that defined this incarnation of Black Sabbath with thrilling live versions of recent tracks like “Neon Knights,” “The Sign Of The Southern Cross,” “Voodoo,” and “Children Of The Sea.” The album also honored the band’s original lineup with Dio-led versions of Sabbath classics like “Paranoid,” “War Pigs,” “Iron Man,” and “N.I.B.”

Alas, the lineup split before the album was released. Iommi and Butler continued as Black Sabbath, while Dio and Appice left to record Dio’s solo debut, Holy Diver. Still, it wasn’t the final chapter for the band.

The story continued over a decade later when Dio and Appice rejoined Iommi and Butler to record 1992’s Dehumanizer. They went their separate ways yet again, only to reconvene in 2006 – under the moniker Heaven and Hell – to record three new songs for Rhino’s 2007 compilation, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years. After a hugely successful world tour supporting the collection, the quartet released what would be its final studio album, 2009’s The Devil You Know, which entered Billboard’s Top 200 chart at #8. Shortly after the album’s debut, Dio was diagnosed with cancer, a disease that led to his passing in 2010.

Can I ask who is doing the Press/PR for this release, Id like to do a Zoom interview with Tony Iommi if possible around the release of the reissued ‘Live Evil

I am a rock radio broadcaster from the UK, of 30 years experience, currently with a three hour rock programme on GTFM, BCFM and Rock Radio UK, syndicated to 15 stations across the world.

LOVE your tunes. Got everything you release. I got old scratchy records that plau good. But these new ones skip brand new. Make them make grooves deep like old records for us commoners who use cheap ceramic needles. Saw you San Deigo Mob Rules tour with mirror cross. I was trippin ’82 and it was awesome.

Hi Tony, hope you are well.

Is there a plan to release ALL of Sabbath’s releases in a ‘Super Deluxe Box’ version. They seem to be coming out in a random order.

Cheers, look after yourself.

David, Walsall near Birmingham.

Zakk Wylde’s Black Sabbath Tribute Band Zakk Sabbath Announce 2023-2024 North American Tour

Zakk Wylde's Sabbath tribute band will hit the road throughout December and January.

Zakk Wylde’s Black Sabbath Tribute Band Zakk Sabbath Announce 2023-2024 North American Tour

Zakk Sabbath , the  Black Sabbath tribute project led by guitarist-singer Zakk Wylde , have announced a 2023-2024 North American tour.

Billed as the “Tour Forever / Forever Tour,” the outing launches December 5th in Sacramento, California, and runs into the new year, wrapping up on January 20th in Los Angeles. The Native Howl will provide support.

Fans can look for deals or get tickets to sold-out dates via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

The upcoming dates will be the first Zakk Sabbath shows since 2020. The group — which features Wylde alongside bassist Robert “Blasko” Nicholson (Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Zombie) and drummer Joey Castillo (Danzig, Queens of the Stone Age) — formed in 2014 and has played sporadically in the years since. They cover mainly early Black Sabbath songs — many of which Wylde has also performed as the guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne.

“Going back to high-school keg parties, we’d be playing songs by RUSH, Sabbath, Hendrix, whatever, and one person would sing the RUSH stuff, someone could do The Doors, and I’d end up doing the Sabbath or Ozzy stuff,” remarked Wylde in a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone . “It’s hilarious to me, because we were 17 years old playing keg parties at a friend’s house … and I’m still playing ‘N.I.B.’ and Sabbath songs at keg parties, except there’s a couple more people.”
