Blaine took our fairly large group on an informative walk around the greater downtown area, showed us many landmarks, and shared interesting tidbits about each one.

From the story about the bullet hole in the window of the beyer-evans house, to the tale of the blue bear's creation, blaine kept our attention for the duration of the tour., he also answered all the questions we could throw at him, with obvious depth of knowledge of this city., what a great way to spend a beautiful morning, "i'd recommend  this to anyone.".

First time visiting Denver and it was such a great tour with Will! Really appreciated how in depth he went in describing the historical context and giving us some cool details on the buildings. He was very funny and intriguing in his storytelling. I would highly recommend!

I loved learning about the formation of the Dairy Block, brothels, and under ground rails in Denver. My second time on this trip...I brought my Denver family along to learn about their town... highly recommend!!!

Our whole family really enjoyed the walking tour. Will, our guide, was both entertaining and informative. We learnt and saw so many things about Denver. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful introduction to Denver. Rachel is so knowledgeable about the local history and food, and is full of warmth, fun, and energy. We loved our introduction to downtown Denver and would recommend this to anyone.

Such a great experience! Thank you for bringing the history to life for us and showing us around. The whole group had a wonderful time. Highly recommend!!

Will gave a friendly, informative experience. Well worth the time. The walk is not strenuous and is nicely paced. Even went into the bar afterwards which sells Coloradan oyster beer after hearing what its ingredients are - only to find they'd sold out!

A Mapped Guide to the 10 Best 1-Hour Walks in Denver

' src=

Lose yourself on one of our suggested one-hour walking routes in Denver that include parks, pedestrian-only roads, and historical sights to help deepen your knowledge and understanding of the Mile High.

Note: Click on the name of each route to view the maps individually.

Cap Hill / Cheesman Park

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Distance : 2.3 miles

Highlights: Cheesman Park, Snarf’s, Voodoo Donuts, Pedestrians only street from 11th Street from Lincoln to Humboldt and the Molly Brown House

The Lowdown: This beautiful Capitol Hill walk has it all — history, haunted parks, gorgeous greenery, old mansions and doughnuts. Start your walk at the beautiful Cheesman Park and marvel at the rolling green hills that are actually mass graves . If that’s a bit too morbid for you head west down 11th avenue that’s been opened for pedestrians only and take in the droves of 1920s apartment complexes alive with residents. Then hang a right at Pennsylvania street to pay your respects to the Unsinkable Molly Brown who survived the Titanic and who’s historic house serves as a testament to the resilience of Denver residents. Follow that through to the picturesque 16th street (much different than 16th street mall) before heading southeast on Park Avenue where you can grab a doughnut to-go from Voodoo as a treat. Enjoy it on your way back home or to the park as a little reward for all the steps you just endured.

City Park Loop

Distance: 3.1 miles

Highlights : Smith& Canon Ice Cream, City Park, Weathervane Cafe, 16th Street Pedestrian Walk Way, Castle Marne Bed and Breakfast

The Lowdown: Looking for a dose of city and park? This loop is for you. Walk down 16th Street where you’ll pass by Castle Marne. You may admire the history of this mansion from the street — the exterior construction is rusticated native lava stone, known as Castle Rock Rhyolite quarried in Castle Rock, Colorado. Look closely (but not too close ) it is composed mainly of quartz, mica, and feldspar, and sparkles in the daytime. Continue on to the East High School Promenade and into City Park to enjoy the serenity of Ferril Lake and scope out beautiful new art installation in the abandoned lily ponds. Don’t forget to stop at Smith & Canon Ice Cream co. on the way.

Whittier / Cole

Distance: 2.8 miles

Highlights: Whittier Cafe, Fuller Park, George Morrison Sr. Park., Genna Rae’s, Sweet Sweetz

The Lowdown: Take a weekend afternoon to explore the historically Black neighborhoods of Whittier and Cole. Despite its proximity to downtown, the area is a residential oasis filled with big yards, parks and neighborhood markets. Start your walk at a local gem, Whittier Cafe and grab a coffee and a breakfast burrito or panini to-go. The Ethiopian owned cafe also has a spacious patio if you want to take a moment to enjoy. Then head down 25th and take a right on Humboldt and circle Manual High School to Fuller Park — Denver’s second oldest park. If you brought a pup, there’s a spacious dog park to let them roam free. Next, you’ll take a tour of a series of mini-parks, all named after American heroes and Black icons . Stop at each park and read a bit about them with the corresponding links: Frederick Douglass , Dr. Daniel Hale Williams,   Madam C.J. Walker and Colorado’s own George Morrison Sr. Then head up Bruce Randolph Avenue, named after another great Black Denverite , and swing by Carnegie Lofts to take in an old library that has been converted into residential homes. End your day by walking back to Fuller Park. If you’re hungry, we’ll let you in on a neighborhood secret — Genna Rae’s. The Caribbean, soul food joint is take-out only and a perfect place to grab some grub before spreading out in the park. But since we promised ice cream on every stop, you can also head to Sweet Sweetz down the street — another black-owned shop — known for their inventive flavors including their rendition of Dole Whip.

Sloan’s Lake

Distance: 2.7 miles

Highlights : Little Man Ice Cream Factory, Sloan’s Lake, Pedestrian’s Only Byron Place Zenobia to Stuart, Lake Middle School

The Lowdown : Need an escape from the city that is still within the 10-mile driving limits? This Sloan’s Lake loop is sure to satisfy your itch for the outdoors. Beginning on Zenobia Street which is currently closed to cars head South so that you may enjoy the unobstructed views of downtown Denver. Feel free to bop on down to Colfax if you’d like to increase your mileage and snag a scoop from Little Man’s Ice Cream Factory. As you continue around the ~3-mile lake loop, you will come across Lake Middle School, the most distinctive structure in the area because of its Moorish architecture combined with ornamental lights and soaring features, giving the school a medieval appearance .

Wash Park / South Pearl

Highlights: Sweet Cow, Wash Park, Lakes, Pedestrian’s Only, History: Old South Pearl

The Lowdown: We recommend this walk on a Sunday beginning May 17, 2020, to late September when the farmers markets are happening. Stock up on your local groceries and specialty items and hit Sweet Cow for that extra energy needed to stroll around Wash Park. Washington Park is mostly pedestrian and biker’s only so it’s sure to put the cherry on top of your perfect Sunday.

Fun fact : Did you know South Pearl Street was a trolley route in 1893?

Art District on Santa Fe

Distance : 2.7 miles

Highlights : Santa Fe Arts District, Sunken Gardens, S. Broadway, Eggens Violin Shop , Lincoln Park History

The Lowdown : Even though the art walks are suspended, you may still roam the streets and enjoy virtual art tours here . You may still appreciate the art and architecture from the safety of the sidewalks. On your way to or fro, step into the Sunken Gardens , a true hidden gem of a park located off Speed Boulevard.

Highlights : Frozen Matter, Capitol, Civic Center Park, Pedestrian Only Bannock/11th/16th, Brown Palace, Art Museums, Brown Palace Hotel

The Lowdown : Museums, parks, art, this walk encompasses the heart of all things Denver.  Even if you can’t enter any of the establishments without a reservation, areas such as the Denver Art Museum and Civic Center Park are filled with outdoor art — ready for you to appreciate. If you want to extend your walk beyond the Capitol Building area, head East to admire the Molly Brown House Museum and swing by Frozen Matter for some organic ice cream on your way back to downtown.

City Park / Park Hill

Highlights : City Park, Spinelli’s Market, Montview, Bike Path, Park Hill, Italian Spy House

The Lowdown : Ever explored the East side of City Park? Just behind the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, you will find an incomparable view of the City. Continue East to find the Park Hill neighborhood as well as Spinelli’s Market — a Park Hill staple since 1994. Continue on to find the unique architecture of the Italian Spy House at the corner of Ash and Montview — representative of the eclectic mix of architectural styles from the 20th century found in this neighborhood.

Five Points/ RiNo

Distance: 2.9 miles

Highlights : RiNo Arts District, Curtis Park, Pedestrian Only Champa St, History: Five Points , Denver Fire Station #3

The Lowdown : This walk will take you through both Denver’s past and present by encompassing some of Denver’s oldest and newest neighborhoods. Starting in Five Points, you’ll begin at Denver Fire Station #3 — which was built in 1931 and previously the only fire station manned by an all African American crew in the city, until the department desegrated in 1958. Next head to the legendary Rossonian Hotel , the former cornerstone to the thriving jazz scene of Denver’s Five Points . Once called “Harlem of The West,” everyone from Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Ella Fitzgerald took refuge there. If you’re parched, stop by Coffee at the Point for a variety of cafe offerings or Rosenberg’s to grab a bagel as you continue on. Next, explore the beautiful architecture of Curtis Park that features everything from Italianate, Eastlake, Queen Anne and Victorian homes. As you stroll down Champa, stop by The Black American West Museum. Although closed due to COVID-19, you can read about their mission here . After, you can circle Mestizo-Curtis Park which was developed in 1868 — making it the city’s oldest park. Next, head onto the second leg of your walk — RiN0 Art District. Known for its rapid development, the area is primarily new businesses and is home to many craft breweries. But it’s most distinguishing characteristics can be found on its walls — as many artists have worked to reclaim the history of the new neighborhood with murals and street art. Every September, a hundred or so artists are invited to re-paint buffed walls during the annual CRUSH WALLS festival . This year is still scheduled to happen on September 14 to 20 and we highly recommend you check it out. In the meantime, the best spots to see murals are found in the alleys between Larimer and Walnut Street with a pedestrian walk-way behind Denver Central Market you can’t miss. Also, if you want to pay your respects to Elijah McClain and Breonna Taylor, view their murals painted by the Spray Their Name project. You can find them at Epic Brewing and Erico Motorsports, respectively.  Once you’ve completed your walk, you can end the day by grabbing a scoop at High Point Creamery inside Denver Central Market and reflect on where Denver’s been and where it’s going.

Downtown / Larimer Square

Distance : 2.9

Highlights : Larimer Square, Union Station, 16th Street Mall, Brown Palace, History: Larimer Square , Brown Palace

The Lowdown : There’s no place richer in history and sights than Downtown Denver. Start your walk on either end of the 16th Street Mall and peruse the rich history and architecture along your way. In fact, Larimer Street was Denver’s first main Street in 1861. Be sure to make The Brown Palace a stop along this route, often called “Denver’s most elegant hotel.”

Fun Fact: When it was completed in 1881, Denver’s Union Station was the largest structure in the West.

Is Denver a walkable city?

Yes, thanks to a walkable downtown area and more than 300 days of sunshine a year, the capital of Colorado is a very walkable city.

According to Walk Score , in 2021 the city has an overall walkability score of 61 and a bike score of 72. For comparison, New York is considered the most walkable city in the United States with a score of 88.

Some of the most walkable neighborhoods in Denver include:

  • Capitol Hill
  • Cherry Creek
  • Downtown / Union Station
  • Five Points

Since Denver is so walkable, you don’t really need a car in Denver as a tourist. There are tons of transportation options in Denver, so if you can’t walk somewhere you can always get around via bus, railway, or bike.

Is Denver good for tourists?

Tourism and Colorado go hand in hand, and it’s no different with the Mile High City.

In 2021, Denver welcomed more than 31 million visitors to the state, making it one of the most popular cities for tourists in the country.

This boom in tourism in Denver means that the average household was able to save over $1,500 in state and local taxes. Not to mention other noteworthy savings throughout the county.

Because of this, it’s safe to say that tourism in Denver is both a good activity and a welcomed one for the city.

How many days are enough to visit Denver?

As a local couple who lives in Colorado, we recommend spending at least 3 days in Denver to get the most of your experience.

Denver has a thriving art scene, plenty of delicious restaurants , museums, and historic buildings to see. And that’s just in the downtown area.

But staying for at least 3 days will allow you to see many of the most popular sights. Plus, you’ll have a day to escape the city and see some of the gorgeous Rocky Mountains nearby.

What is the best month to visit Denver?

The best time of the year to visit the city of Denver is during what’s called “shoulder seasons”.

This time is from April to May, right before the busy summer season, and September to November, right before the busy ski season starts.

This is also the time(s) of year when you’ll have the best weather without too many tourists and traffic. Prices during shoulders seasons are also more affordable than during peak tourist times.

No matter which of these Denver tour you choose, you really can’t go wrong! There is something for everyone and all ages.

As a Colorado sightseer you’ll uncover local history, learn about notable individuals, and see some of the most breathtaking views in the state.

Walking Tours in Denver

Downtown Denver

Start : Denver Information Center, Civic Center Park, on West Colfax Avenue at 14th Street.

Finish: State Capitol, Civic Center Park.

Time: 2 to 8 hours, depending on how much time you spend shopping, eating, and sightseeing.

Best Times: Any Tuesday through Friday in late spring.

Worst Times: Monday and holidays, when the museums are closed.

Begin your tour at:

1.   Civic Center Park

This 2-square-block oasis features a Greek amphitheater, fountains, statues, flower gardens, and 30 different species of trees, two of which (it is said) were originally planted by Abraham Lincoln at his Illinois home.

Overlooking the park on its east side is the State Capitol. On its south side is the:

2.  Denver Public Library

The multihued 1990s building by architect Michael Graves is considered a great example of postmodern architecture, with different shapes and colors emerging from the main building.

On the south side of the Denver Public Library, you'll find the:

3.   Denver Art Museum

With buildings designed by Gio Ponti of Italy and Daniel Libeskind of Germany, the art museum is an architectural wonder. Inside are more than 35,000 works of art, including renowned Western and American Indian collections.

On the west side of Civic Center Park is the:

4.  City & County Building

During the Christmas season, a rainbow of energy-efficient LED lights decorates it in spectacular fashion.

A block farther west is the:

5.  U.S. Mint

Modeled in Italian Renaissance style, the building resembles the Palazzo Riccardi in Florence. More than 60,000 cubic feet of granite and 1,000 tons of steel went into its construction in 1904.

Cross over Colfax and go diagonally northwest up Court Place. Two blocks ahead is the:

6.   Denver Pavilions

The city’s newest retail hot spot sits at the south end of the 16th Street Mall, featuring a Hard Rock Cafe, a 15-screen movie theater, and a Barnes & Noble Superstore.

Three blocks up the 16th Street Mall, head southwest 2 blocks on California Street past the Colorado Convention Center and turn right on 14th Street. Walk 2 blocks to the:

7 . Denver Performing Arts Complex

The complex covers 4 square blocks between 14th Street and Cherry Creek, Champa Street, and Arapahoe Street. The entrance is under a block-long, 80-foot-high glass archway. The center includes seven theaters, a symphony hall in the round, a voice research laboratory, and much more. Free tours are offered.

Two more blocks up 14th Street, past the arts center is:

8.  Larimer Square

This is Denver’s oldest commercial district. Restored late-19th-century Victorian buildings accommodate more than 30 shops and a dozen restaurants and clubs. Colorful awnings, hanging flower baskets, and quiet open courtyards accent the square, once home to such notables as Buffalo Bill Cody and Bat Masterson. Horse-drawn carriage rides originate here for trips up the 16th Street Mall or through lower downtown.

9. Take a Break --  Stop at Rioja, 1431 Larimer St., between 14th and 15th sts. (tel. 303/820-2282 ), or one of the patios on Larimer Square for a drink and people-watching.

A walkway at the east corner of Larimer and 15th leads through:

10.  Writer Square

Quaint gas lamps, brick walkways, and outdoor cafes dot this shopping-and-dining complex.

At 16th Street, cross to the:

11.  Tabor Center

The glass-enclosed shopping-and-entertainment complex spreads over three levels, in effect a 2-block-long greenhouse.

To the east, the Tabor Center is anchored by the:

12.  D&F Tower

The city landmark was patterned after the campanile of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy, in 1910. In the basement is a performing arts venue, Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret.

Head northwest along 16th Street, then turn right on Wynkoop Street and go 4 blocks to LoDo’s centerpiece:

13.   Coors Field

The anchor of the vital LoDo (“Lower Downtown”) neighborhood and the home of baseball’s Colorado Rockies, the stadium is right at home amid the Victorian redbricks. There are plenty of eateries and bars in the area, as well as transportation hubs in Union Station and Market Street Station, plus a few shops.

Here, head southeast to 16th Street and begin a leisurely stroll down the:

14.  16th Street Mall

This picture-perfect urban pedestrian-only stretch of 16th affords the finest people-watching spot in the city. You’ll see everyone from street entertainers to lunching office workers to travelers like yourself. Built of red and gray granite, it is lined with 200 red oak trees, a dozen fountains, and a lighting system straight out of Star Wars. You’ll also see outdoor cafes, restored Victorian buildings, modern skyscrapers, and hundreds of shops--with an emphasis on sports--plus restaurants and department stores. If you are done with walking, sleek natural gas-powered shuttle buses run through, offering free transportation up and down the mall as often as every 90 seconds.

You’ll walk 7 blocks down 16th Street from the Tabor Center before reaching Tremont Place. Turn left, go 1 block farther, and across the street, on your right, you’ll see the:

15.  Brown Palace Hotel

One of the most beautiful grande dame hotels in the United States, it was built in 1892 and features a nine-story atrium lobby topped by a Tiffany stained-glass ceiling. Step into the lobby for a look. On Wednesdays and Saturdays at 3pm, historical tours ($10) are offered.

Continue across Broadway on East 17th Avenue. Go 2 blocks to Sherman Street, turn right, and proceed 2 blocks south on Sherman to East Colfax Avenue. You’re back overlooking Civic Center Park, but this time you’re at the:

16.  State Capitol

If you stand on the 13th step on the west side of the building, you’re exactly 5,280 feet (1 mile) above sea level. Architects modeled the Colorado capitol after the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., and used the world’s entire known supply of rare rose onyx in its interior wainscoting.

Beer Walking Tour: LoDo to LoHi

Here's a walking tour that takes you from LoDo (Lower Downtown) to LoHi (Lower Highland), visiting several beer hotspots along the way.

Wynkoop Brewing Company

Colorado's first brewpub opened in 1988 and was founded by a group of young urban pioneers that included John Hickenlooper, who went on to serve as Mayor of Denver for seven years and as the Governor of Colorado for two terms (the first former brewer to be elected as a state governor since Sam Adams in 1794). Today, the  Wynkoop Brewing Company  is the center of LoDo — Denver's hip historic district where century-old warehouses have been turned into more than 90 bars, brewpubs, restaurants and cafes.

Guided Private Tours

Denver microbrew tour.

Find out why Denver has been dubbed the "Napa Valley of Beer." The  Denver Microbrew Tour  is a 1.5-mile guided walking tour in downtown Denver's historic  LoDo  (lower downtown) neighborhood. The tour includes 10 samples at four of downtown's best breweries and tap rooms, including  Wynkoop Brewing Company   and  Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery . The guides are bona fide Denver brew aficionados, so you'll come out of this tour knowing more about beer than you ever thought possible. If street art is more your scene, join their RiNo Beer and Graffiti Tour, which winds past colorful murals in the River North Art District (RiNo)  on its path to four breweries (and possibly a cidery!).

Aspire Tours' Brews n' Views Tour

Get out into the mountains and sample the best of the Colorado brewing scene with Aspire Tours . On this small-group tour, you'll learn the history of brewing in the area and enjoy stunning views while you visit three breweries in mountain towns (including historic  Golden ) on this half-day tour.

Denver Brew Tours

Take a private tour of Denver's best breweries with up to 14 of your closest friends with Denver Brew Tours . What makes this tour different? YOU pick the breweries! Choose from any of the more than 100 local breweries in and around Denver and Boulder, or pick from Denver Brew Tours' list of nearly 50 partner breweries, grouped by region so your can maximize your time. With Denver Brew Tours, you're in control of everything except the driving. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground? The company also offers a walking tour of Denver’s Tennyson Street Cultural District, including tasting flights at three local breweries.

Mile High Bike Tours' Bike & Brew Tour

See some of the city’s best attractions by bicycle, including diverse public art, government buildings, beautiful parks, distinct architecture and all three professional sports arenas. Then, head to RiNo to sample some of Denver’s finest craft beer at a local hotspot on this approximately nine-mile, three-hour, fun-filled excursion.

Wynkoop's architecture is typical of the neighborhood, with hardwood floors, exposed brick walls covered with artwork and big open windows. The second floor of the huge pub has 22 pool tables, multiple dart boards and other bar games. There are always more than a dozen craft beers on tap. The flagship beer (available in cans) is Rail Yard Amber Ale, a smooth amber with the malty flavor of an Oktoberfest lager. For a true Colorado experience, try Patty's Chile Beer, a German-style lager made with chiles and smoked Ancho peppers.

Direction to next stop:  Walk west on Wynkoop two blocks to the 16th Street Mall, then turn left and walk seven blocks to Curtis.

Rock Bottom Brewery

Today,  Rock Bottom Brewery  is a major chain with more than 30 breweries that produce 700 different craft beers that have won over 125 medals. But their brewery in Denver is the "mother ship," the first brewery of the chain when it opened in 1990. Rock Bottom has one of the best locations on the 16th Street Mall, Denver's mile-long pedestrian promenade. There are 41 outdoor patios along the Mall, but the one at Rock Bottom is the largest and one of the most popular. On summer weekends, bands play and hundreds of people gather to sip craft beer on the patio under twinkling lights, as horse-drawn carriages clatter by. The interior of the massive bar is built around towering glass windows displaying the brewing equipment. It can be noisy, crowded and fun, as the bar brings in an attractive crowd of young downtown office workers. For a quieter experience, head to the back bar, which has pool tables and a staff that's both knowledgeable and passionate about craft beer. Rock Bottom features the standard IPAs, Red Ale, White Ale, Dark Ale and a Winter Tartan Ale, as well as the always popular Molly's Titanic Brown Ale. The brewmaster at each pub creates specials, so check what's on the current beer list, and especially look for the hand-pulled cask-conditioned ales in the back room.

Direction to next stop:  Catch the free MallRide bus at the corner of 16th and Curtis and take it north to the final stop at the Union Station Light Rail. Walk back to 16th Street and over the Millennium Bridge (easily identifiable by the tall white mast). Continue straight through the Riverfront development and across Commons Park to a second pedestrian bridge over the South Platte River. On the other side of the bridge, walk one block to Platte Street and turn right. Denver Beer Company is on the far side of the street.

denver-beer-company-patio-hops

Take a seat outside and enjoy the sunshine at Denver Beer Co.

Denver Beer Company

Denver Beer Company  is one of the city's favorite tap rooms — a place that really captures the laid-back feeling of The Mile High City. Located in a former auto garage, on warm days the "walls" of the pub literally roll up, making the whole building open air. There's an outdoor patio with picnic tables next to a space where different food trucks park every day.

Denver Beer serves only delicious homemade pretzels and beer, but you're welcome to bring your own food or purchase food at the rotating food trucks. Dogs are welcome too, and it's a rare day when there aren't at least a few pups at the bar or on the patio. Owners Charlie and Patrick began as home brewers and are dedicated to making the finest and most inventive beers in the city. There are usually a dozen small-batch beers on tap that rotate regularly. Check the chalkboard to see what's available. If Graham Cracker Porter is on tap, make that your choice. It's been described as "a campfire in a glass with notes of vanilla, smoked cedar and mulling spices." This is a neighborhood bar where people stop in after a bike ride or a run. Even Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is a fan — he helped Patrick and Charlie make a pumpkin ale here to kick off Denver Beer Fest in 2012.

Direction to next stop:  Turn right from the brewery and in a half block, head west over a third pedestrian bridge, which crosses I-25. Continue up 16th Street as it changes into Tejon Street, then turn right onto Erie Street just past Hirshorn Park. Turn left on 17th Street and walk up one block to your next destination, on your right.

Recess Beer Garden

After crossing the bridge, you've entered LoHi, one of Denver's hippest and fastest-growing neighborhoods. Before you reach your next destination, stop on 16th Street when you see a 30-foot-high milk can. This is the legendary  Little Man Ice Cream , where they produce hand-made, small-batch ice cream, created with some of the finest local ingredients. Relax with a triple scoop (we're partial to the Salted Oreo) in their outdoor ice cream garden. For those poor souls who have trouble with milk? They sell a Lactaid pill for 50 cents!

Now, on to the next sip. Recess Beer Garden  is a great introduction to this section of town. Although no beer is brewed here, Recess offers 24 beers on tap, including plenty of local and Colorado drafts, along with out-of-state brews, ciders, seltzers, wine, cocktails and kombucha. The staff is beer savvy and will work with you to find the perfect selection, whether it's light, hoppy, malty or complex. Post up in the beer garden with some friends as you play yard games and enjoy everything Denver and Colorado have to offer.

Directions to next stop:  Exiting Recess, turn right and then take another immediate right onto 32nd Avenue. Walk two and a half blocks east until you reach a sharp turn in the road — and your next destination.

Avanti F & B

If all this walking has worked up an appetite, end your night with dinner (and another beer) at  Avanti F & B , one of Denver's most popular spots for foodies. Inspired by European markets and food-truck roundups, Avanti bills itself as a modern-day food hall, offering up seven different restaurant concepts under one roof. Grab a Neapolitan-style pizza, some TexMex BBQ or a traditional arepa. There are also two large bars — one upstairs and one downstairs — with 20 draft beers on tap, many from local breweries.

Directions to next stop:  Return to the Light Rail station the same way you came. From here, you can catch the free shuttle to anywhere on the 16th Street Mall.

Brewery Tours Outside of Denver

Farm house at breckenridge brewery.

Take a tour of the bucolic Breckenridge Brewery  facility in  Littleton . You'll walk through the whole brewing process and see from start to finish how Breck Brew gets the beer to your bottle. Everything from the 100-barrel brewhouse, to the fermentation hall, to the bottling line...and all with a complimentary beer in your hand! You'll taste and talk about the company's different beers and how they're made. Tours cost $3 and begin and end in the tasting room. We recommend grabbing a meal at the excellent Farm House Restaurant while you're there.

Avery Brewing Company

One of Boulder's most beloved brewers,  Avery Brewing Company  is rapidly making headway on the national beer scene. Last year the company moved into a new $27 million "dream brewery" in north Boulder, upping both their brewing capacity and tap room seating.

Left Hand Brewing Co.

Located on the banks of Longmont's St. Vrain River, the patio is perfect for relaxation and beer appreciation. Since its founding in 1993,  Left Hand 's brews, including its iconic Milk Stout and Sawtooth Ale, have wowed beer connoisseurs, racking up dozens of medals at events like the Great American Beer Festival, the United States Beer Tasting Championships, the Brussels Beer Challenge, the World Beer Cup, the International Stockholm Beer & Whiskey Festival and more. You can also visit their newest location: Left Hand RiNo . The Denver outpost is a  full-service restaurant and bar, with 48 taps (including, of course, Left Hand's award-winning beers), along with wine, sake and cocktails.
